I just don't believe it's possible for the Masquerade to survive into 2023 with all of the surveillance technology we have and the ubiquity of cell phone cameras. It was kind of a stretch even in 1990.
>>87976335Okay so set your game in 1999 then. Problem solved.
>>87976335Good thing there's all those YouTube debunkers showing why all those videos are fake...
We had an enormous amount of UFO documentation declassified less than a year ago, and absolutely nobody gave a shit whatsoever. I absolutely believe that the Masquerade could exist in the Information Age. Because of media burnout and oversaturation if nothing else.
>>87976335If I showed you a video of someone lifting and car in the dark of night you'd call it a forgery and move on with your life. Some people would believe it but there are people that believe every ghost sighting, UFO spotting and cryptid description
>>87976335>mfw another thread complaining about the setting uses a Bloodlines imageAnyway, treat it like a cross between crime and cryptids:>crime goes down (despite what they want you to think) due to the surveillance state, a lot of vampires get picked off but some learn new tricks, and elders are powerful enough for a lot of organizations to look the other way.>cryptids get increased awareness but unless the media tells NPCs to care, *you* are the crazy one for noticing
>>87976394You're talking about this like it's common knowledge. Can you tell us more?
>>87976394This. Surveillance technology and culture of publicity don't matter when people are simply predisposed to disbelieve what they see.
>>87976335Sorry anon, but we're way past the point where video evidence would make any difference at all.
>>87976335There's still The Dark Ages
>>87976335With the way information is warped and twisted by social media the Masqurade is arguably easier to maintain than it was in the 90s.
>>87976516Nigger it is. It was on the news. They put it all on the news. See also: the Panama and Paradise papers.
>>87976335Elements in the NSA and Pentagon knowing SOMETHING even if they refuse to explicitly call the phenomenon vampires has been a subplot since Revised Edition at least. In the newest edition, intelligence and paramilitary agencies all over the world are hunting Kindred. In other words, the Masquerade only exists because the Glowies want it to.

>>87976335It's proven in the last 3 years with enough gaslighting people will not believe things that are shown with their very eyes.
>>87976335The Masquerade is easier to keep up than ever, if anything.Vampires don't even have to hide anymore. If they get caught on camera and it gets posted online, people would just think it's fake.
>>87976335The Technocracy invented deepfakes and AI voice synthesis to obfuscate any footage of WoD supernaturals
>>87976688>It was on the news.Do you realize how much news exist at every moment?
>>87977288That's exactly >>87976394's point. You could totally drop the masquerade and some people would never find out.
>>87976335My man, there are people who believe a psy-op manipulated by people in the US government that JFK Jr is alive and working with Donald Trump to bring down a Satanist cabal that harvests kids for drugs and can control the weather. People are fucking dumb as shit these days, you can lie all the time to them
There's a really interesting Visual Novel that had a fucking disastrously awful abomination of an ending that ruins all of the good will that the rest of it builds where you met a pretty well spoken Malkavian chick that you may choose to win your side. She agrees only if you moderate for her as she performs a live webcam show, during which she does weird kinky stuff but also superhuman barbaric acts where she mutilates herself and other clearly masquerade breaking, bestial, vampiric shit. Things play out depending on how well you take it in good sport or don't play along. Turns out that while on her phone she was pretending to be every member of the chat simultaneously just to fuck with you. It was a neat scenario.
>>87976335>hey guys check out this video of a vampire that i took last night!>>wow, you really need to improve your cgi skills, that looks like crap
>>87976516Anon, there were public congressional hearings. Do you like under a rock? Look up "US congress UAPTF," it's all public and on mainstream sites.
>>87977324>le malk was... multiple people!Unprecedented.

>>87976335We've had this discussion in the past. There's so much data and information out there already that any genunine masquerade breaches could easily be buried under a mountain of garbage. Alternately, a significant chunk of people are far more skeptical and/or stupid than you think, and masquerade breaches could slip under their nose handily.https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/84179201/#q84179201This thread goes into it more.
>>87976335You think that doesn't make sense? Think of Call of Cthulhu modern day or Delta Green. At least vampires TRY to keep themselves unknown, meanwhile a shoggoth doesn't give a shit, and let me tell you, a shoggoth is a lot more noticeable than a vampire.
>>87977947I watched Trump trashtalking Biden's build for DRG. We live in a post truth world
>>87978279Ok but that's still mundane. Like, the chances of Biden and Trump both liking DRG and being on friendly enough terms to play with eachother are incredibly low, but not technically 0. It's still something tangible, physically possible, no laws of reality are broken. But a giant ball of mutating, pulsating, ever-changing eyes and jaws and ooze from some ancient depth of the ocean crawling in the middle of London or some shit? You can't ignore THAT
>>87976335And that's why in V5 masquerade fell. World govenments are aware of vampires and have special task forces to hunt them down. The general public still doesn't know what's going on because vampires and the government cover it up.
>>87977324>There's a really interesting Visual Novel that had a fucking disastrously awful abomination of an ending that ruins all of the good will that the rest of it buildsall too common
>>87976394Because they could be rationalized. So far it is just unexplained and does not hurt humans. Humans ending up without blood with two holes in the neck, ripped in pieces, shadows coming alive etc etc is not reaaaaly the same.

If a motherfucker walked up to me on the street and tried telling me about weird mass of whatever that lives underground (and remember, the man is likely insane from seeing it) I'd assume him to be a crack addict and move along. There are a whole lot of these people, and they believe to be ships, believe the earth is flat, believe in reptiloids, shit, they believe in shoggoths. That doesn't mean the world will pay any attention.
>>87978417V5 is shit and so is the Second Inquistion
>>87976335Dunno, I could pretty easily see it being held up.>have mainstream media discredit all the footage of vampires/werewolves/etc. as fake and people promoting them as conspiracy theorist nazis>fill the social media with obviously fake supernatural footage>fill all supernatural related discussion online with bullshit about alien lizardman jews and how that footage of vampire sucking a man dry is proof of their GMO vax supersoldier program>kill people who ask too many questionsCongrats, your average sheeple still thinks that vampires aren't real, and people who actually think that vampires are real are either conspiracy retards believing that Jews did it or have had their reputation tarnished to the point that no one will believe them by the previous group.
>>87978458>nobody knows for sure how it appeared or why it's still going (likely gas)Most of the time when you hear this, first thought should be "So they have multiple ideas, and aren't sure which one is right" rather than "OoOoOoO no one knows!"

>>87978458The issue isn't some nutter walking up to you, the issue is cameras everywhere and widespread social media. One dude talking about this is a nutcase, one video is a fake, but today you'd get dozens of videos and photos from different angles.

Would the local news really report that a victim was found drained of blood when some elder's ghoul runs the network? Would you really believe some crackpot conspiracy site about "They're walking among us, man! Wizards and Werewolves are real too!!".

>>87980624Oh yeah, you've got a point. So when a government official says that vampires might be real, there would probably be a massive reactionary backlash from people who insist that it's all part of a deep state plan to make everyone eat bugs and live in coffin apartments and own nothing.
>>87976335Anon, if you have enough money and influence you can get away with literally fucking anything even in broad daylight.See Epstein's clients, or BLM burning, looting and murdering in front of cameras and still being called peaceful & harmless, Netherlands farmers being branded dangerous conspirationnists for protesting against the most massive expropriation shenanigan ever made, etcSupernatural shit would be the easiest to keep under wrap, just have your journalists accuse every witness to be some flat-earther nutjob on drugs, and every photo/videos to be some bad AI photoshops made by Russia or whatever other country is the big baddy this month. If anything it would be even easier *now* than in the 90s.
>>87978458>and nobody knows for sure how it appeared or why it's still going (likely gas)Yes we do.The region is just a giant natural gas field with shitty bedrock that collapse into doline really easily.Commies engineers set it on fire because it was leaking toxic gas and they though the pocket would be consumed rapidly.Turn out those doline (there is several of them in the region, just not on fire, often flooded if someone here want a toxic natural jacuzzi) are apparently sitting on a country sized porous gaz sponge, so that entrance is still alimented in gaz and thus still burning. Not everything weird is unexplained. Sometime the explanation is just really dumb.>The sky in multiple american cities turned red a couple of years back, and it was either "fire" or "weather phenomenon"Considering how often your industry leak massive amount of dangerous chemical and every politician & journalist will look the other way because money...Just look at the recent train crash and how all the poisoning that happened nearby just after it is being branded as "completely natural" or "completely unrelated" because it would make the administration look bad for letting this shit happen.

>>87980310Most of the surveillance cameras in the city of London don't actually work. Surveillance cameras are only in public or maybe corporate areas, just don't do masquerade breaking shit in public, this was known.Ghoul/dominate someone with the authority to pull and delete any footage that raises eyebrows. If some retard leaks it online, discredit it with your media attack dogs and drown it in white noise. The Masquerade is fine, people would honestly believe any other possible cause before vampires.

>>87981406There's also the Bleach effect where hollows are only seen by certain people even though they can do real physical damage.
The belief in vampires would belong extensively to antivaxxers/flat earth/qanon types and since no one with a reasonably scientific mind buys what they're selling anyway the vampire conspiracies wind up largely ignored.
>>87981545>be vampire>start blood bank>file taxes as a nonprofit
>>87980927This.Plus, imagine for a second that VtM/WoD lore was real and trying to explain literally any part of it to someone without sounding like a schizo."You know Bela Lugosi? He's actually a *real* vampire now. He never actually died. Someone just turned him into a vampire and he went crazy and thought he was actually Dracula. Here look I have a picture! No...no it's NOT a cosplayer. It's actually him!"
>>87983549World of Darkness makes the excuse that WoD Mortals are even more skeptical than their real-world counterparts, which offers a bit more leeway when it comes to masquerade violations or witnessing anything supernatural in general.

>>87976335It's the advancement of tech that makes it all the more likely that they would continue getting away with it.Think about all the bullshit people can pull with AI generated images, video editing, etc etc. If someone posted a video of a vampire feeding on here with LiveLeak in the bottom corner would anyone buy it?
>>87976335This day and age is absolutely perfect. Social media and the information age has turned everyone into a schizo expert. One video of vampires hits the web and a few placed comments, reports/cries over harassment or kink shaming; gone! And everyone moves on. It's like that X-Files revival episode about "Reggie Something" where the antagonist reveals that Scully and Mulder aren't needed in this day and age. WW are too weak now to lean that deeply into the consequences of rampant disinformation, culture war, conspiracy culture and then some anyway.

>>87976335Yes. That's not why the game died, though.
>>87976335V5 addresses this. Basically, as >>87976394 says, people just disbelieve. But the government's know and have launched a massive extermination project against all the supernatural creatures. I believe H5 actually even addresses this directly, with some of them now being government or private organizations (but also obviously the bad guys because government and private corporations are evil or some shit) and using these surveillance systems to find Vampires to go kill them. So, ironically enough, the worst version for lore has some of the best justifications for this type of this. Also, really depends where you are. I know Vampire was always an American thing, with maybe some UK and Canada, so that I understand. But in a lot of places surveillance on such a scale simply does not exist. Not in a most of Europe, not in most of Asia, absolutely not in Africa. If I set it in my neck of the woods there'd be little risk of this as long as you avoid banks, ATMs, hospitals, schools, and police stations. The rest has no cameras, even in the bigger cities. Not sure how long that'll last, but then, a handful of years ago, when the government tried to privatize water, there were votings against and nigh on riots, and government official lost their jobs. Not long before then we sent people to prison for trying to set up some kind of databank registry. I forget what it even was about. But shit like that doesn't fly here. Maybe in a generation or two when the old guard die off and the idiotic Americanization takes over. But fuck I hope not.
>>87980927Apparently the farmer situation actually has its strongs held by capital. Some billion euro firms organising and funding all of it, livestock feed firms, milk processing firms etc. The situation's fucked no matter how you look at it, but rich families using livestock to keep the kine in check? There's some poetry to it
the information age makes vampire much more interesting, not harder to uphold the masquerade>toreadors saturate news feeds with bogus claims: who cares about a video of a nosferatu feeding when a toreador and their troupe constantly upload and debunk fake paranormal videos?>Camarillas take over tech firms in order to develop more suppressive algorithms>politically savvy brujahs egg their followers to stay within certain echo chambers: do not follow X account, do not engage with Y poster, etc.Back in the early 2010s it was speculated the internet would bring to worldwide democratic revolutions, riding the high of the arab spring, but the same decade demonstrated the internet could also be used by governments to co-op movements and spread propaganda (Russian IRA, Firewall of China, fake news, etc)
>>87977018Is this fun bit of trivia from the same people who brought you interesting facts such as, “Oh, this super rare condition where getting hit in a VERY specific part of the chest in a freak accident will make you have a sudden heart attack, in no way related to heart-weaking experimental inoculations. But it totally just happened to this poor athlete, just trust us?” Because it’s funny how often we’re now conveniently hearing about all these mysterious trail derails.

>>87990414Dresden Files was inspired by the World of Darkness, but once Butcher got his feet he largely blew up the conceits that were boring.

>>87980507>on making sure nobody knows you existThey wouldn't even bother with hiding.Jews don't, and they committed, commit and are working to commit much more vile shit than most of what even the edgiest faction of WoD commit. As long as you are good enough at making yourself the victim, and smearing anyone who is saying otherwise, you don't have to hide in any way.
>>87991090What are you talking about, for those of us who haven’t read the books? And we’re these changes for the better in your opinion?
>>87994703Dresden's world was sort of a xerox of the World of Darkness (original) at first. About eight books in, Butcher begins blowing up most of the conceits that are built for that world; vampires eventually even try to take over the world openly, forcing Dresden to put up with the shitty shitlords on the wizard (mage) council.I'd honestly recommend reading them if you're into epic fantasy.
The Masquerade isn't even what bothers me, even in modern times is "doable". What i found impossible to exist in a modern setting was the Sabbat and their murder orgies and mass embraces. One thing is a group of vampires doing everything they can to stay under the radar, another is a militante group that engage in mass kidnappings, murderous orgies with lots of people being killed. They stumbled with the vampires due reading nossie mail but nobody ever noticed lots of people disappearing at once. In a setting with mages, vampire hunters, werewolves, etc, that is lot of people clued in.One good thing the V5 did was to getting rid of the Sabbat, mostly.
>>87996016I actually love the Sabbat and what they represent, but they REALLY do not fit into the previously established setting, for those exact reasons. A world with them in it would be closer to X-Men or something, where you had good guy vampires doing the work of keeping the bad guy vamps in check, while being only slightly less reviled by the general population.Like, it doesn't even work from a "oh, they just stick to active warzones or something" approach, because the Sabbat are almost fundamentally incapable of making good decisions.
>>87980507Eyup, and that's just for the ghouls. I'm as much of a tinfoiler as they come and even I start wondering when people start talking about reptilians, kyle odom, DMT entities, or black cube of saturn have backing to them beyond schizo shitposting, or if it's just more false leads pushed by glowies to distract from actually important themes like falseflag ops and WEFshit. Now imagine someone telling you Louis Pasteur was a vampire and werewolves killed the secret president of Nestle who was putting lust demons in soda for the Bilderberg Group.>>87983549Also to this add the convoluted setting that not even people who play it can agree on a canon of.

>>87976335Vampires probably have their agents in the media. The Great Firewall and Parag's Twitter suggests that it's way more achievable than you think. In general, censorship works. For every failure of censorship, there are dozens of successes you don't hear about.

>>88000323He also may have been Mossad. Never underestimate the willingness of a nation-state actor to suppress the shit out of information it can use as a weapon.

I could buy it if they acted completely in secret, like they all lived underground in bavaria controlling the world or something. But they're just hanging out at nightclubs and shit. People talk. People are gonna notice that loads of people can't leave the house during the day, that there's parts of the city you don't hang out because people keep waking up feeling anemic, someone's gonna get in a fight posted on worldstar where a dude gets his head ripped clean off, etc. The seventeenth time someone fucks up and leaves a shoe print in some blood and kills five cops before exploding into dust at 2 in the afternoon outside an apartment complex is gonna get people talking.Maybe an open secret, where you don't talk about it if you know what's good for you, but you can't have a fractured society of people that eat people living day to day in major cities without people catching on.

>>87976335>>87976344fpbpI totally agree with VTM not being able to survive today. I think it would struggle even in 2000s let alone 2020s. Remember when Jack talked about cellphone cameras? He was talking about phones in 2004.Yes you can do some 2nd inqusition, camarilla controling the internet and all that jazz but I think magic of vtm is lost in process. I really think VtM is a 90s game, in feel, in mood, its is a puire 90s game, inspired by the goth culture of 80s and the vampire media of late 80s (lost boys etc)
>>87976335The Camarilla have probably pushed the deployment of deepfake technology and AI imagery to purposely muddy the waters. They likely also run massive content farms to publish counter narratives.
Doesn't V5 solve this by saying the SI is doing double duty hunting vampries and making sure normalfags don't find out about them?Like someone tries to upload video of crazy vampire shit to the internet and 20 different glowie agencies AND the vampires are on it to stop them.
>>87976335"Vampires cant be caught on camera".....woooo fixed your ass
>>88000323That is a misinterpretation of what Epstein's purpose was. He, like the Finders and other intelligence apparatus linked pedophile/human trafficking rings before him, was employed to create a secret keeping apparatus. The children and 'clients' were more often targets, with groups like the CIA wanting compromising pictures of politicians in order to keep control over them. Basically if what the Finders did is something to go by it's:>up and coming politician gets invited to After After Party>they go because it is part of a career climb>a CIA asset ensures they drink enough to be absolutely plastered>CIA asset puts them in a compromising position near a child>takes pictures, these pictures are then used as blackmail materialBoth sides of the isle do this, they just use different organizations to accomplish it. These sort of blackmail honeypots are far more common than the actual pedophiles even. The reason Epstein was swept under the rug was because he was always part of the USA intelligence apparatus, and because the government exploits kids to control people.

>>87976335While I've never storyteller'd a VtM game so I try not to think about it cuz ultimately the setting should just be a vehicle for your story, I've only played a oneshot and I generally just took it to be that the WoD world sucks so much and is so nihilistic that things like people going missing and falling through the cracks in shit like Sabbat mass embraces is just kind of something that goes unnoticed in the setting. Whether this be due to Camarilla control of the media and internet suppressing Masquerade breaks or just because the ST doesn't want to write in worrying about cameras to the detriment of the story, a bit of suspension of disbelief should be used because if every mook my coterie killed had a missing persons report I would just be annoyed by how much information I'd have to track in my game. I don't imagine there's any happy amount of detail checking that would make the realism of wacky vampire world airtight.

>>87976335The late 90s/early 00s would've unironically been the worst time for the masquerade. Cameras were everywhere, the internet was growing and still a wild west and realistic looking CGI was too expensive to be used in random internet videos. If people started spreading around videos of supernatural shit then it has the possibility of snowballing into at least a sizeable minority of people believing it's real, I mean look at how many people bought into The Blair Witch Project.By comparison pre-90s if you had a videotape of a vampire then you'd have to take it to a news agency or police station or something where some vampires would eventually find out about it and then replace the video with something harmless. Post-00s the internet is regulated enough that vampires can ban anyone and any content they don't like and CGI and other visual tricks are common enough that there's nothing you could post that people wouldn't immediately think is fake.

>>88021553Mage, or Changeling?
I think people routinely forget that the World of Darkness is a world of DARKNESS. It's worse than the normal world. Both it and Chronicles explain that they are different from the real world even beyond the supernatural elements. oWoD's a world where massive gothic buildings dominate every city's skyline. It's a world where the number of people that go missing is 10x higher than our own, and then 10x higher than what's reported. Terrorism, murder, and war are more common. When you factor this sort of thing in, it becomes easy to hide the bodies piling up from some secret blood war being waged in the shadows. If you still can't suspend disbelief based on that or the other things in the thread, the easiest fix is some kind of weirdness filter like what Changelings (especially in Chronicles) and Werewolves get. Perhaps doing explicitly supernatural things as a vampire muddles the minds of witnesses or scrambles recording.

I've long thought the Masquerade was unnecessary. So a few days ago grandma showed me some vid she stumbled across on facebook. Supposedly "this was seen in the sky above Turkey right before the earthquake."It was... shit, I don't know, it looked a bit like a jellyfish made of pure energy floating in the sky or something like that. Totally surreal and alien-looking, maybe too clean/crisp to be really convincing but it'd have been trivial to make it grainier or whatever.Naturally I chuckled but I had no actual argument against it other than "I don't believe whatever randos post on facebook", but if it was real everyone would be talking about it on the news... right? My grandma seemed to believe it (she was always pretty open to /x/ shit) but it's not like it changed anything for her either. She didn't obsess or rave about aliens, she probably just thought it was an interesting video and that it showed the world is full of mysteries. She's probably forgotten about it already. >>87991381Who's to say they're not already vampires? They drink blood, worship dark gods, and seem to have some sort of supernatural powers that keep favoring them. Their tribe is divided into smaller groups, each with their own domain and influence, but at the end of the day they always come together and have the same goal, no matter where they are. They're always paranoid about being genocided, because they really believe that's the only way humanity will act against them if they're exposed, so they have to micromanage everything ad nauseam. And they all have basic low-level but powerful "spells" that allow them to change the discourse at any time.

>>88032251Man, this used to be common knowledge but I guess some people are getting into the hobby just now.Yes, there's a huge collection of WoD novels, mainly for Vampire. In fact 3rd ed's metaplot/the end times was largely told through a series of novels for each Clan, and an equivalent clan novel series for the Dark Ages serving as prequel/background for the characters. They're all quite decent in their own right too, I recommend reading them even if you don't care for the plot.Besides that there were several other novels (often trilogies) that didn't really deal with the metaplot, those were often written during 2nd ed mostly. I know some short story anthologies also came out since the V20 reboot, if you consider those novels, maybe there have been other since then. I consider Beckett's Jyhad Diary to be a sort of epistolary novel too with commentary too. Then there's also visual novel/text adventure games that came out recently, I played Coteries/Shadows of New York and they're pretty nice. I hear there were a bunch of novel games as mobile apps too but I don't touch that in general.I remember there was some fiction for Werewolf and Mage too at least but I'm a VtM guy so I don't remember the details. Monster Hunter International gives some pretty compelling reasons as to why and how a masquerade would continue into the modern era. In short, the major world governments collaborate to keep things hidden because the current theory in vogue is that the more people believe in the supernatural, the more powerful it becomes. Whether or not this is exactly true is up for debate, but it can't be denied that keeping arcane magic under lock and key at least reduces the number of "child found the gun" incidents only with hordes of zombies and demons. On top of that, you have pressure from the more intelligent monsters to keep things civil- more than that, some actually use human intermediaries to lobby governments to turn a blind eye to their depredations.Excuse me? You thought your boss turned into a werewolf and tried to eat you? No, no, that's just PTSD from falling out the thirtieth floor, it's a miracle you're alive at all. Now take this check for thirty grand and keep your mouth shut or we'll finger you for illegal possession and you'll never see the light of day again.

>>88063053>just the amount of victims of anemiaAnemia is very common. It affects about 6% of the population (8% of women, 4% of men). One study I saw said 25% of these cases are unexplained, so that's 1.5% of the population with unexplained anemia. In the World of Darkness, there's about one vampire per 100,000 people. If every vampire is feeding on 100 people per year and every single one of those people gets recorded as having anemia, that would raise the anemia rate by 0.1%. They're a rounding error. They don't even noticeably raise the unexplained anemia rate.
>>88075269But what about the concentration of cases? >vampires cultivate "herds" and have people addicted to their bitting and bloodsucking Any health department would take notice or the increase of cases concentrated at specific areas

>>87976335It's important to remember that WoD's view of the average human's inquisitiveness and attentiveness is pretty pessimistic.Regular humans who are not in-the-know are conditioned from birth to ignore anything that doesn't sit well with their version of reality. So the masses have an easy time ignoring small slips.>Wait, was that..? nah, I must be imagining things>My brother's friend's uncle said he once saw a dude bite another dude's neck so hard he died, wild shit.>I saw something really incredible that goes against everything I knew once, but no one would believe me if I told them, I've never seen it again and I really have no explanation for it, as time goes on I find it easier to accept things might not have been exactly as I remember them. But much more importantly what >>87976394 said, media burnout and oversaturation are paradoxically the modern day's masquerade's best friend.Bombardment of information, news and happenings means any masquerade violation that isn't repeated too soon afterwards gets buried under everything else.More people believing in retarded conspiracy theories (or at least, that being more well known) means masquerade violations are just another retarded, schizo tangent.Good image, video and audio manipulations being made more and more accessible to the public make it easier to disregard incredible evidence.Hell, in V;tM the Camarilla has their fingers deep in all sorts of pies, so they have a lot of influence on the news cycle and what people are talking about. If threatened with a particularly bad masquerade violation the Camarilla could probably organize a lot of things to distract the public, like airing some particularly dirty laundry involving a lot of famous people a la lolita express.WoD describes itself as "gothic punk", the gothic part is vampires and shit, but the "punk" part manifests itself by going>The world is divided into 3, the proverbial man, the clueless sheeple, and US.
>>87976335Not to mention there is enough eco minded people and politicians that the Garou would readily go public often and loudly about everything.>Listen, that Jesus thing? That's just some trendy pop culture thing. Let me tell you about the "three Ws.">So there are some really important spots in nature. Like literally power plants of all life, including you! >>88112932Would that work for other factions, like magic users or werewolves, though? They might be a bit more obvious.
>>88108018It's the tipping point technologically. After that, nearly everyone will have a smartphone with camera, nearly every building will have some CCTV system, and internet use is widespread enough that just bribing the local journalists&cops won't stop video and testimony from leaking publicly. It's also the tipping point socially. After that, the vampire kidnapping poor people to torture and bleed them dry isn't a mythological monster made flesh and preying on mankind, it's "a straight white male oppressing minorities".Society going full retard on social justice mean even supernatural popping out will be ignored for other considerations, which make the Masquerade a retarded mess of both infinitely easier and infinitely harder. So yeah, 90's. World's is still sane-ish enough for Masquerade to be sensical, and technology is at the right spot in term of difficulty.
>>88117676What about before it though? Aren't the eighties just as good?
>>88118896>Aren't the eighties just as good?No computers, no mobile phone, no internet. At least not casually. Also the USSR is still (sorta) around, which wrap *a lot* of how human society would react to anything & operate.

>>88075467https://www.snopes.com/news/2020/08/20/police-solve-just-2-of-all-major-crimes/>inb4 snopesYeah. Most crimes go unsolved. And you really think anybody is going to give a shit if the urban poor are exhibiting a statistically insignificant amount of anemia or even death? Especially considering Vampires often set things up to look like an accident? "Oh, this dude died of a heroin overdose because he was shooting up into his neck. Case fucking closed." But again, it's not just that. It's the fact that Epstein totally killed himself. The USA went into Afghanistan and Iraq because of WMDs. The situation in Ukraine is fine. Sherelle Smith totally said that she grieves for her brother and not calling for people to burn down the suburbs. The Jan 6th protests are a threat to the nation, while the BLM protests were "mostly peaceful." Etcetera, etcetera. You do know we're reaching a point where we literally cannot trust ANYTHING the media says. Mainstream or otherwise. Like I'm not even exaggerating whatsoever. The only time I would believe something is if the NYTimes, Fox News, CNN, Times of Israel, the Pravda, and Reuters agreed on something and even then, I would be skeptical.
>>88119984Of course he didn't. This entire thread is based on a very silly idea that's been debunked dozens of times in other WoD related threads.
>>88117676That's why i said it was a good thing they got rid of the Sabbat in the V5>The highest-ranking Sabbat in the city preside over the affair, and the city's most renowned priest opens the celebration. The "kine-kegger," as the younger Sabbat call it, capitalizes on the public location of the masquerade ball. Victims for the feast are often vampire wannabes, drunken revelers and "witches" out for a good time on Halloween nighThere is no "hidden away" in an age of smartphones with cameras and wifi. Someone took a picture, records a video and there goes the "hidden away">oh but they do clean up, ghouls, etc, etcAnd the images/videos would be already on the internet where they would fall into vampire hunter hands or whatever foe the sabbat vampires wouldIf anything they should had used the Sabbat as the first target of the SI, not the Tremere>retarded vampires that make a point of being unrepentant monsters and every year push the Masquerade to it's limits>no, they eliminate first the paranoid vampire clan that was one of most disciplined factions and goes out of their way if they find a non-Tremere doing their brand of blood magic
>>88117676>>88121619You literally can't convince anyone of anything and you have no power to change policy even if you could. Evidence only causes people to double down, it doesn't change minds. This isn't any different now than it was in the 90s.Why do people insist on misportraying the security and surveillance state? If hidden away wasn't a thing then tax fraud and money laundering and crime wouldn't't be a thing either lolA single layer of obfuscation prevents all of humanity from seeing the truth that's all you need to completely cover up anything from meaningfully changing things. They don't even talk about gang violence on the news ffs, in fact most Nations given a new population decided to cover up any crime statistics.what world do you live in where you think any of this could prove the existence of vampires? The second Inquisition is nonsensical and written by a luddite idiot who thought that every game session should end with the feds busting down your door and had no real familiarity with vampire.
>>88121619Except okay, let's say the Hunters and Inquisition find out that yes, the Sabbat really are there doing their blood orgies in broad daylight (figuratively speaking). Great. They come in and then they get wiped out by the Sabbat, because the Sabbat doesn't have to play by the rules of the Cammarilla and Anarchs. They can just get a goon squad and murder your dumb ass. And then there's no consequences because they operate out in the open-ish. And how many Inquisitors or Hunters are you willing to lose before it becomes untenable?
