Yes, but it was less interesting than you would think. Everyone just went "oh that's weird" and proceeded to ignore them unless the monster(s) directly targeted them.
Only thing they realy did was naming a specific ghostly monster ray piest, as it had tentacles and they freed from it's holding cell it to cover their escape.

No but been thinking about a hunter game set in the cyberpunk setting.
>>
>>87492664
Agreed. The line is neat and has lots of options for playing. I doubt all nWoD players played all options handed by all books.
nWoD2e is nice, but it's just a supplement of "alternative system" if players are tired with Storytelling 1e. It's just a more complex Mirrors.

>>87492817
It isn't that much popular anymore. Even in their peak, some lines weren't that popular.
I'm a WoD Mummy and Demon ST. I only knew 2 other Mummy and Demon STs.
Promethean STs? I only met other 2 as well.

>>87494075
Yes. This is somewhat a "must have" Merit/Background in our games.
>>
>>87494488
Yes and no.
Yes because I have an Immortal antagonist (1e supplement when they weren't connected with Mummies 2e) walking around since forever and she appears from time to time.
No because she is connected to one tertiary NPC.

can you "spice up" blood/vitae? add in some sugar or some salt, maybe some pepper?

my guess is no, it would probably feel like having sand in your drink
>>
>>87496009
you can spice it up with drugs if your vessel has consumed them, if you're playing V5 you could rouse your blood to recover your taste buds so you could taste spiced vitae like you mention.
>>
>>87496009
Yes, you can. You just need to feed your herd properly so their blood taste better.
IIRC, some books talk about vampires in old ages feeding humans with different herbs which affect how blood tastes for them.
>>
I really feel like a good HtV rouge-lite could be made.
You could play from a selection of compacts and conspiracies, you'd be sending your constantly dying troops into different supernatural havens collecting magical artifact, and progressively improve your organization with your findings.

>>
>>87496200
Let people play their game and go find a game for your Malkavian. You seem to have special feelings for this character and it would suck if you did that to him.
Simply leave the game and if someone asks why, say something like "Not feeling the game's mood. It isn't for me" or whatever.
>>
>>87495249
I mean... is there any new material or does it only translate existing stuff to gurps?

>can you "spice up" blood/vitae?
On a similar note, would kindred benefit from steroids if taken through blood? I want to say no but that feel inconsistent.
>>
>>87496556
I don't think so, roiding requires a consistent dosage schedule and since your body goes back as it was the night you were embraced, you would lose any benefit (if there was any to begin with) with one dose of steroids.
>>
random bored question for the thread
what's the most out there character concept you have that you've never tried to run for one reason or another?
>>
>>87496738
I got many concepts.
The reason is simply not enough games.
>>
>>87496643
If it's like the one shot that makes you feel pressurized and makes ovulating women look kinda sparkly, I could see that metabolizing into a temporary dot of Potence.
>>
>>87496738
In terms of mechanics it would be a Tzmisce living weapon smith because its just a metric fuck ton of XP for a shitty payoff most of the time.
In terms of out there concepts... I'm drawing a blank.
>>
>>87496890
I would turn it into merit/flaw, as in you were doing steroids before becoming a vampire, so you either gain one extra dice in rolls requiring strength or you have an extra dot in strength that can go over 5 even if you aren't lower gen but any rolls to control the beast increase difficulty by 2

How did mortals get so close to the truth with the two Nosferatu movies? Yes, there's a bit of nonsense in there regarding vampiric vulnerabilities, but they got many little things right. They got the ugly right. More importantly, they got the name right. How did that happen? Was someone punished for breaking the masquerade?

>How did mortals get so close to the truth with the two Nosferatu movies?
Infinite monkey theorem.
>>
>>87497062
my hc was always that it was intentionally made with aid from the camarilla to make vampires seem more fictional, and, more importantly, to spread the idea that all vampires looked like the nosferatu, and that if they don't look like count orlok, they must not be a vampire.
>>
>>87497136
Nosferatu understand the value of the Masquerade, of secrecy, and of information control, so it seems a bit risky to fly this close to the sun. In 1922, the technology that mortals developed to spread information through moving pictures is still fairly new. Seeing an accurate Nosferatu on screen has a big impact on people's imagination and it's one of the first images propagated through this medium, so it has staying power. Nos elders who were already getting outpaced by new technology by then must have been pretty afraid, and would probably have been massively opposed to a controlled release. Obviously modern Nossies take it in stride and built references around it, but back then?

It'd be funny is it were just a Toreador prank. Imagine the seethe.
>>
>>87497473
The toreador prank idea honestly makes a lot more sense

then again, from what i understand, not all nossies in canon actually look like count orlok, that's just the popular depiction in fanart and what not
>>
>>87493845
The more advanced tech gets usually the more obnoxious preserving the masquerade is. Or the more questions are asked. Games set in the early 2000's or 2010's are much easier to handle because of the comparitive lack of people walking around with mini-computers
>>
>>87497649
The cameras are the problem, not the computers. It’s pretty easy to fix just by saying “you can’t take digital photos of the supernatural because fuck you”.
>>
>>87497668
But that takes away some uniqueness from the Lasombra. And even in v5 they still bug you with "ok, you can't see Lasombras on camera feeds or pictures, but you can _kind of_ tell something is wrong, so it's not a sneak out of jail free card."
>>
>>87497799
For Vampire my approach would be “you can’t RECORD the supernatural on digital media—the files just literally cannot be saved—but live feeds still work”. It makes the classic “security room full of dudes staring at monitors” still functional (and keeps live news coverage and Really Big Streamers a threat to the masquerade), while still making the masquerade fucking possible.

Well, while I'm old enough to have played Vampire when it was released, I don't know that I have much of worth to say about the TTRPG community at the time - I mean we had to create the local club wholesale with friends. All I have is collected echoes of fractured gaming islets. And what little of worth I've had to say I've already bothered everyone with in previous threads.
Two things I distinctly remember: the hope of getting over and beyond the combat-based nature the genre had herited from its origins; the marketing stroke of genius that was the character sheet.
From a systemic standpoint, it might have been a mess, forcing a set number of skills to fit perfect equilibrium in presentation regardless of use/efficiency, but the three columns (physical/social/mental), with their implied promise that each equally represented would be equally important, certainly grabbed quite a few of us.

Since I missed a few threads... "capture the zeitgeist" is such a misnomer. A piece of work doesn't "capture" the spirit of the time, it is *uplifted* by it and those that make it live... As such, well Vampire's time is more than probably waning. It still has things to say, some of us still want to say them, but the new stories people need to *tell* more than probably aren't a perfect fit.
If only: the Masquerade and its hidden societies angle, while not obsolete, feels like side-stepping the issues of the post Transparent-Society we inherited...

>>87493959
Friends being defined by their capacity to disappoint you - no one can disappoint you like only a true friend will - I'm still not dead yet because none of those assholes want to keep up the promise of taking me out.

>The dead outnumber us nine to one, and they have voted on this issue. Cleary the living have mounted a very pour case.
>>
>>87496738
that anon here
thanks for the responses everyone, figured i should throw my out there concept into the ring since it's a slow day at work

tl;dr
an ancient baali who narrowly avoided the destruction of his clan and who finally awoke from torpor in the 90s, later assimilating into the anarch movement while masquerading as a brujah.

probably far fetched, but idc it's an idea i've had for awhile and still think is pretty cool for a villain or sumn
>>
>>87501702
I like it because of how understated it is (assuming you don't make them some kind of unliving god that beggars the question of how they went under the radar). After all, Prospero pretends to be a Brujah.
>>
For V5, assuming the Baalers keep Presence and Obfuscate, will the third discipline be Auspex or Dominate?
>>
>>87501991
Dominate because they give that shit to everyone in V5
>>
>>87501998
Fair enuff
Really comes down to if they decide that the Baali truly learn of your sin before torturing you or if they command you to torture yourself
>>
>>87501891
thanks
i had the idea of him being very understated and calm throughout the chronicle, possibly the only clear telling card that his brujah persona might be a lie, up until he gets into any position of power, where he starts to quickly shed his facade and go full monstrous baali dictator or whatever.
>>
>>87501991
wouldn't oblivion make the most sense? with "Fear of the Void Below" and or "Psychomachia" as combination disciplines of oblivion and presence
>>
>>87502198
That could work very well, but it thematically detaches them from Hell and means they share no common disciplines from their parent clan.
>>
>>87501991
Blood Sorcery (or Oblivion, anon is right) with amalgams for the specific "Dark Thaumaturgy" powers.
Now that I'm thinking about it, there's something sexy to Oblivion, with people mistakenly naming the powers "Dark Thaumaturgy" wronglly believing it comes from the blood... while it comes from outside.
>>
>>87502258
given how even the tremere-salubri backstory is not considered non canon "legacy content" i doubt the baali are gonna be related to the poor salubri in v5 if they ever get added (which i also doubt)
>>
>>87502389
I've got some doubts on them making it in as well, but has anyone but the Polish cam-marketer said this "legacy" line? I've only heard it from her, and she has nothing to do with the creative process.
>>
>>87502425
she is community manager isn't she? and it's consistent with what they called Kiasyd in the faq for the video game jams and what they call old werewolf content
>>
In my character's search through a Sabbat vampire's abandonned Haven, I've found something ususual: a 'kennel' of almost 2 dozzen wights, starved of blood. It appears that the former resident of this Haven was intentionally capturing humans, turning them, and then causing them to become wights through extreme blood starvation. These wights seem to be high willpower wights, for what it's worth

What, reasonably, can I do with these things? Can I blood bond them, and if so how likely are they to listen to my instructions? If they cannot be bloodbound, is it worth it just to burn them and be done with it?
>>
>>87502524
Pick someone you really hate and unleash them. Then kill them or let them go, as you please.
>>
>>87502524
wights will attack you if they thirsty or sometimes even when not, depending on the source they might not even be sentient

you can diablerize one if they are lower generation, but otherwise just burn them the sabbat probably just used it to dump their humanity fast or as a blood farm
>>
>>87497062
Vampires myth and folk stories have always been a part of history in many cultures, and I don't represent it any other ways in my WoD. Vampires were popularized by penny dreadful novels from 1830 onwards, and before that they were a very common rural myth in many places.
Kindred don't care because those stories never really endangered them, it always provided plausible deniability by scapegoating their own actions on madmen.
>>
>>87502425
I don't really know. It might have been just a shitty way of saying "it's not canon until it's in V5 books". They're very into anti-gatekeeping and they consider anything beside the newest official material not inclusive for new players.

I have been thinking of incorporating revenants into my v5 game. As far as I know they arent very fleshed out and operate as generic ghouls. I was thinking of fixing this by implementing some homebrew.

Since revenants are produce vitae naturally, Id assume they could make rouse checks with the penalty for using disciplines above lvl 1 resulting in superficial damage rather than aggravated damage like a ghoul endures. I was also thinking of treating them like thin bloods and giving them blood potency 0 from the conpanion book.

Does this seem fair in keeping with the spirit of older games or am I giving them more than they should get?
>>
>>87505216
I don't think they need protection from aggro damage, but the BP0 makes sense, aside from the sunlight damage. From there, they get one of their bloodline disciplines and a shitload of social and mental flaws.
>>
>>87503917
Just in case, the reference is dated, it misses the point as far as institutional power is concerned, but it did raise the issue before its time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Transparent_Society

And back to your question: the first aspect is a central issue, people are not only being exposed, they are *parading* themselves for all to see. The horror of the secret society has given space to the horror of the freely open monster telling to its victim's face what it's going to do, and not seeing the issue in any of it, and the horror of the hated yet desired panopticon.
From a language standpoint there'd be a lot to say (the rise of what I call meta-crypsis for example is interesting, with the dominant class, instead of trying to hide what it's doing, changing the discursive norms around it to invalidate any attempt to raise awareness to it) with people talking past one another more than straight out lying (or in some cases decorrelation so complete language loses purpose), but I think the esthetic is where we would need to hit the nerve for some modern fiction around those issues to work.

Trouble is, mind you, I don't think it's as simple as you make it with the monoculture. Artistically, the last years were defined by a culture of pastiche, with more or less succesful results. In music especially, you can basically name any subgenre or period - be it Ethiopian 70s jazz, music concrete or Swiss folk - and find someone doing a more or less exact version. There is an obsession with form over meaning. Add it to a strong resurgence of normative shaming (the whole "cringe" thing) tied to high level of conformism within subgroups and we have a very weird picture.

All in all, vampires may still work , but I think both the Masquerade and gothic-punk aesthetic both unfit *as is* for current times. Sad as it makes me to say it.

(Sorry for the rambling, but I think I'm so close to making an important connection, and failing)

I agree. The upsides:
>Malkavians are sometimes lucid, and can fit in almost anywhere if they pass as sane

To all the subhuman mongoloids that are commonly known as "ttrpg writers", you're here to craft shiny new toys for ME, King Konsumer, if i like them then i maaaay buy your book, after quickly reading the pdf that i "found" online and declaring that i indeed enjoy this version of events more than the masterpiece of english literature and magnum opus of modern ttrpg worldbuilding that is *my* homebrew
if you instead choose to take away MY toys from ME, well, then we have a problem, and by problem i mean that if i ever catch you doing that, i'll pirate your shitty waste of paper you freaks call "book" untill your gay little Portland polycule that has the GALLS to call itself a " ttrpg """company""" " goes under, and then i'll piss, shit and barf all over it's memory like it's Ronald Reagan's grave during pride month, to ensure that it's name will forever be synonymous with fecal matter and other waste product (which is also an apt moniker to describe """writer""" filth like you)

Have you ever had a mundane shit show happen in game?
>>

>>87508224
Just mundane problems actually affecting your characters. shit like
>Your car is on the shop when you need it.
>Your retainer has food poisoning.
>Your company is going to shit
mostly things going wrong without the plot being a major factor on that.
>>
>>87508221
yeah one of my players is trying to balance being a caitiff neonate in a cam city and thus everyone's bitch and being a foreign medical student who would get thrown out of the country if he stops studying

hench the "can you somehow stop being caitif" question above (not that it would help much)
>>
>>87508260
Oh yeah, last time i met a Toreador at a club, conversations turned sour and after killing 7 ghouls completely unarmed i jumped through a window because fuck going through the front door when shots were fired, then i remembered i left my car in front of the club, luckily for me i'm the leader of a faction so i just called two of my Samedi and told one to drive me home and the other to just pick up my car while no one is looking, mind you by that point i had 4 aggravated damage in the tracker so i didn't want to risk it anymore.
>>
>>87508304
Another time i got cursed by a Baali and since it affected my rolls i called my Sire and treated it as taking sick leave until i could find a way to fix the curse.

Only in vampire or hunter as the dicepools for Contracts (Lost) and rites/gifts (Forsaken) are more impactful for me.

>Toreador in BDSM club tries to impress local Setites and fails
>Tremere ruins Toreador's 10th anniversary Embrace party by using Cauldron of Blood in a Daughter of Cacophony who was singing, plus accidentaly shooting a local Ravnos Elder with an incendiary weapon, making everyone going into frenzy and destroying the house in an attempt to leave
>Mastigos and Obrimos NPC at a party were given a sudden spotlight during a toast and both were eating those shrimps with sauce in a martini glass whatever. They drank the sauce
>Mastigos almost choking on his tea many times everytime he's asked when him and his werewolf BF wil get married
>Mastigos making another Mastigos NPC embarrassed by reading Danielle Steel books out loud and dramaticaly on a flea market for everyone to hear

>Acanthus financing the Hamas so he could link the money invested with his enemies and destroy them politicaly
>Acanthus financing human sex work traffic so he could destroy human sex work traffic
>Acanthus paying a bunch of Ocean Eleven-esque humans and putting fire in a Cassino
>Kinfolk avoiding looking at how hot is the leader of Get of Fenris in Paris. Accidentaly makes her think she is fat and unnattractive for almost a week
>Kinfolk trying to have some comfy time with Fianna Metis. He goes into frenzy (strong emotion, lust) and almost rapes Kinfolk

>archbishop NPC obsesses over player's character
>archbishop has a special ring made by Tremere AT with ability to control plants she imbues with her vitae
>archbishop dies
>later the player receives a package containing this ring and a letter on how his character should never give up his beliefs, all that sabbat bullshit, and this ring is a token to always remember her (plus a recipe on how to do the magic ritual to activate the ring)

Is this too convoluted?
>>
>>87508895
Depends on the splat. Your friends take Frontline in fights, or you have Domination esque powers. I played a Malkavian that didn't brawl, shoot guns, any of that besides being able to take a punch. Not many other creatures wanted to fuck with her because she had three dots in Dementation.
>>
>>87508995
Based.
Also, good move raising dementation to 3 in order to get the best power.
>>
>>87508965
not really you just need to explain why they didn't had the ring on them when they died or why whoever killed them doesn't has it

just say someone from their pack found it and like the bishop are social (i don't wanna say nice) enough or have drank from a single cup often enough to do their mates last will
>>
>>87508965

>privacy is only possible if freedom (including the freedom to know) is protected first.
As the article and you point out, institutional power is not accounted for so slowly we're getting neither thanks to all the ongoing centralization. I see why you think the proper masquerade and gothic punk are losing relevancy, yet both IRL and in-universe you could grasp the angle they still require the fear of the hunter. The dark ages is what made the masquerade necessary and in a world with ever expanding surveillance/attempts at moral justification of barbarity, the pushback of violence becomes more threatening and so the masquerade is more necessary than ever (along with empowering the factions that support it, neonate :^) ). To this add both the horrors of surveillance (prince now wants you to register your ghouls and if you don't like it guess who's being publicly disparaged as a suspected diablerist) and exposure (here's 5 reasons you should join the self-help brotherhood of set) all woven into the human drama which IMO should be at the center of any decent chronicle for the personal horror. Put some loss of identity to spice it up in the great centralization (pic related). So maybe like what V5 is doing with SI but dial it up to 11 instead of gayer. Elders are more oppresive than ever, the normative moral shaming of cancel culture getting stronger makes it more necessary to hide your sins, these Other degenerate monsters want to ruin you, and gehenna's getting closer night by night. This is prime horror material. As you say, maybe traditional gothic punk and masquerade are losing relevancy, but I think they can be updated. Maybe we can get cybergothic punk, though not sure how much shadowrun already covers this.
>>
>>87511299
Well there's no one size fits all answer, it should relate to the character. Play on their redeeming qualities, have them do something that does not immediately benefit them for reasons that make a degree of sense, that isn't obvious "gimmie humanity" points.

Last major campaign I played in, my character (Ventrue, Neonate) had a couple of humanity regains, most of which revolved around her belief that if someone's not opposing her, or is indeed completely unaware of the supernatural, they shouldn't be harmed. She also had a special soft spot for children. It wasn't purely altruistic, in some ways it was pretty patronizing, but it was her rule. It was human. Some actions that got her humanity back were

>Our Lasombra Antitribu had gotten sloppy looking into a weird supernatural "virus", and kidnapped two people in the middle of the act, one of which was obviously infected. The one who wasn't was some random college dudebro, who ended up being interrogated despite clearly knowing nothing. When she came across this, she was so disgusted that she insulted the Lasombra in his own haven, and took the dudebro away. She used dominate to smooth over his memories of what happened (can't remove the trauma but can keep him from being a masquerade breach and hunted), and sent him to our coterie's doctor with explicit instructions that he is not to be harmed unless he turns into a gibbering monster. He lived.

>Taking several kids home when they were out at like 1 AM in Washington D.C.
>Rescuing several kine that had been kidnapped, mostly children. (these two were one regain, happened same session)

>Defeating a cult without having to kill any of the supernaturally brainwashed kine that had gotten roped into it. Let the official "leader" go when it was clear he was just a mindbroken dude who used to work at an auction house.

So ultimately, humanity regains should be about choosing higher humanity over the impulse of the beast.

What are good ways to do a VTM campaign? I'm planning one using the 20th anniversary edition with some expansions (Lore of the clans & bloodlines, Anarchs unbound, 2nd inquisition, state of grace, rites of blood).
What would you guys suggest me to do with mixing the combat and the times when the characters talk? Should I put more emphasis on one or the other?
Another question is how do I get the story to unravel naturally without making it sound or look forced?
>>
>>87513989
Depends on the premise you have in mind and how the PCs are involved. From there, you can more or less write down the major plot points, and they are chained together. Of course, keep it in mind that the PCs are not yours, so don't make a linchpin of the story reliant on something they can fail or decide not to do.
I don't really say anything that hasn't been said a thousand times before.

The players are pirates aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge in early 1718. They capture a sloop, and Blackbeard decides it would make a fine addition to his fleet, so some of his crew (including the players) are sent aboard the sloop, which also holds the original crew (now prisoners) and its cargo. That night, during a sudden storm, there's a flash of lightning and all the ships besides the sloop are gone. The players have to figure out where the other ships went - or, possibly, where their own ship went. Did one of the captured crew members work some magic? Is there something special about the ship itself, or perhaps its cargo? Or was this just a freak occurrence? And what's that yonder, on the horizon?

REAL TALK. Just how powerful is a Mage? As I recall from old lore when a Mage is at the top they are LUDICROUSLY powerful, to the point that reality can push back. Why haven’t they wiped out. The Kindred courts, at least the bad one, deserve removal.

>>
>>87513989
>What would you guys suggest me to do with mixing the combat and the times when the characters talk?
Depends on your player and the type of Chronicle you want to run. We can only talk about what worked or didnt work for our group. Mine liked combat enough that I made sure to include at least once combat scene per session (usually ~3h session), even if it's something easy. Big combat sessions are pretty time consuming, so be aware of that. Personally I always skipped the "go on and introduce yourself to each other" parts, that shit is gay as fuck, characters should be revealed at the appropriate time through the appropriate context. Vampires arent a social club.
As for not making it sounds forced, well it depends also on the events that take place. Usually you give enough agency and time for characters to try and set up their own sub-goals, and the story is just the "arc" which ties it up. The more "serious" or "high-level" the threat is, the less subplots you need to plan for.
Also, build the setting beyond what is needed by the story. Ideally, the setting should be created first, while you are still working the details of the story you want to tell.
>>
>>87513989
Some of those questions should be asked to your players not us, this is something i see a lot online specially in reddit where people ask for input that should come from the people at the table instead of strangers.
As for getting the story unravel naturally, that requires a lot of skill in adaptability you might pin something specific you want with your chronicle but going from start to end shouldn't be written in stone basically, like ok they need to get this item or beat this bad evil guy, what happens if the first person they met that has information on any of those things dies during combat or maybe they rough him up too much during an interrogation and ends dead, how they can proceed (in part this has to come from your players most of the time, you could try to nudge them towards something but they should be always able to propose solutions that you can engage with and help you out make the story)
As for good ways to make a VTM campaign that will depend mostly on your players but my ST mixes up all the splats in our chronicle to make the world feel alive and full instead of being just vampires, but that would take a lot of reading that i don't know if you're willing or ready to do so you might want to go for something simple.
>>
>>87514569
Only time I found an ST whomknew the rules and wasn't a complete dick immediately, he gave us what was essentially The Magicians, but for the Technocracy. Basically Harry Potter except its College and they are horny. Cue 2 hours of boring school shit and getting dunked on by the Men in Blacks who are apparently the stand-in bullies. No one did any magic at all and we somehow get invited to a fucking coeds party. I decide to get revenge on one dude and magic his beer into piss. The ST looks at me like I'm a fucking freak, as if that wasnt super tame, and asks me to explain in detail how I'l do that, not as in what dots are you using, but what chemical changes I'll be making to the beer's composition, how do I accomplish that from where I am, a whole bunch of fucking unnecessary bullshit for this low level stupidity.
A good 20 minutes of back and forth later, he makes me roll, which I absolutely fail, and took some damage out of the attempt too.
Long story short, turning beer into piss is apparently beyond the skill of a starting Mage.
>>

He isn't wrong. If you want to transform beer into piss using the matter sphere you or your character should better know enough about chemistry to make piss molecules.

Would I be too That Guy if I psychoanalize my players in order to craft compelling antagonists for them to get invested in taking out? Let's say one's a bit of a control freak, and such personalities usually develop as a coping mechanism for betrayal wounds received during childhood - someone not keeping their promises. So I make a guy that does exactly that, promises they'll change, and then screws them over again. Good idea or bad idea?
>>
>>87515354
Terrible idea.

>>
>>87514965
In a vacuum, MtA mages can do anything.
The devil is in the details though.
There's a meta aspect to Mage, in that HOW you do things is as important as WHY you do them - or actually doing them, really.
Certainly, a Mage can turn one matter into another... but how does YOUR mage do it? How does the paradigm you defined support that? Using what tools?
There's going to be - at least there should - a lot of talks and (friendly) arguments about how the characters view reality, and the impact it has on what they can do, when, and how - and what ultimately will be the price of their actions. At those moments, the game may stop to a crawl. THIS is integral part of the game for many of those that love it - waxing philosophical and engineering with a bit of poetry and religion on the side is integral part of the experience.
If you don't like it and just want a game of super-powered beings, then another game might be prove more suitable.
Or you know, just disregard the rules...

>Maybe we can get cybergothic punk, though not sure how much shadowrun already covers this.
Nah, I really think we'd need an aesthetic overall. Been pondering all day, how some of those traits have been culturally significant in Japan historically, and how to leverage the idea of perfectly executed, empty, meaningless forms acknowledged as such.
I've had that probably stupid idea that there's the seed in that recent fashion for so called "liminal spaces", ASMR and the idea of the /barely/ perceptible that seem to percolate a lot these past few years.

That said, what you’re describing is no too far from my own games right now, with paranoid elders going so far as basically banning any written trace and going into full autodafé mode for any document that could hint at the vampire’s existence and history.
But that’s old stories.

Just imagine what happen and how that affected the environment in terms of crime scenes. as for registries I don't really have any real idea how to deal with those besides giving half of the information on point A and the rest at point B. from there it becomes a question of punting it together in and out of it.
>>
>>87516561
>>87516886
This
Also prepare three clues, preferably ones that line up with the character's foci/forte, for every one clue that you think you need. And as other poster said, have a good enough sense of the scene that you can give other clues that point where you want players to head. It'll feel like overkill but for players it really feels like they're pulling it all together.

Beer into piss - Coincidental (the only part that wouldn't be would be the smell). Matter 2 is the only sphere you need, so difficulty of the roll is 2 + 3. We'll call it a "Standard Feat" which is described as "Healing yourself, conjuring a small fire," etc)
So you need 2 successes to do it from touch range, let's assume you're doing it from across the room: you need Correspondence 2. Let's suppose you have that. You add one (1) additional success required. All this still at difficulty 5.
I'll assume your character was a technocrat. You use your foci (whatever it is for your paradigm) to accomplish the task.
As an example, we'll say you need your Portable Translocation Device (TM) for Correspondence and your Matter Reconstruction Construct (TM) for Matter. If you were a Mystic (a Hermetic, for example) your foci could be drawing a wand (Matter) and then pointing (Corr) at the drink instead.
But you also don't want to get caught doing this, so we'll say you forgo the M.R.C. (TM) so it just looks like you're fiddling with the other tool. You suffer a +3 on the difficulty for working without usual instruments. Fortunately, you can spend an extra turn (to a max of 3) to reduce the difficulty back down to 5.

Narratively, you plug numbers into your totally-not-a-calculator, which converts the beer into piss. That's it. No OOC explanations of chemical changes required because that would be done by the other instrument, which we've chosen to neglect to use.
Now you roll dice equal to your Arete at that difficulty. If you only have 2, burn a point of (temporary) willpower to add 1 automatic success or do it as an extended action to be able to roll twice (we'll say it takes two minutes)
The victim of tastes the piss beer, immediately spits it out and recoils in disgust. If you fail? Nothing happens. If you botch? Take 2 points of Paradox (shouldn't cause any damage unless you already had more).
TL:DR - your ST was a fool.
>>
>>87517595
>Narratively, you plug numbers into your totally-not-a-calculator, which converts the beer into piss.
That's what I expected. This was over a decade ago but I remember my explanation is "I make a model on my laptop (foci) of what it would take to turn a beer molecule into a piss molecule in my tablet and run .exe", I was expecting this would suffice for such a ridiculous stunt, which was essentially "darn, we've been doing this Mage shit for nearly 3 hours without any magic getting done, might as well try something".
I believe I had the Correspondance required. Anyways, this was one of my few experience as a player and not an ST and it made me want to avoid Mage like the plague. My WoD was pretty much just Kindred, Woofs and Demons.

What is everyones threshold for a masquerade violation? I know there is some gray area, and depending on who you have pissed off in the city will determine how into the gray you can go.
I'm asking because my Nosferatu player has been seen a few times and the local tabloid, think a local version of an old school national inquirer, has reported on his sightings. They refer to him as the Pittsburgh tunnel monster. So he's not seen as a kindred but definitely as some kind of cryptid. There have been no pictures posted of him yet, just a few artists interpretations of what people have described. The kicker being he took huge size as a merit making him very easy to spot and remember as he is over 7 ft tall.
>>
>>87519346
If you are captured on media as a recognizable supernatural entity, then your ass is toast, even if there is strong plausible deniability. There's a story about an archon staking a vamp for showing her fangs in a porn movie.

It greatly improves it by moving the somewhat interesting setting and lore over to be used by a system better suited for it.

>>87522214
Its more capeshit than urban fantasy with vampires, werewolves, and demons all essentially having the same origins and the game being built more for playing as "the Awakened" (who aren't mages since those are basically just normal occultists who got actual powers when all the other supernaturals showed up) who usually work for a government agency that investigates weird stuff which the public is somewhat aware of but kept mostly in the dark. I like the idea of the Nightmare Zones that allow you to throw in bizarre occurrences and a World of Darkness where the veil/masquerade isn't completely hiding everything. It reminds me of Orpheus with the big inciting incident slowly revealing the existence of the supernatural but not completely and it also reminds me a little bit of Demon the Descent with Nightmare Zones functioning like malfunctioning Infrastructure and the Inconnu being an unknowable 4D chess playing entity like the God Machine (although the Inconnu's goals are flat out said). Orpheus and DtD are probably my favorite WoD/CofD games, so there's quite a few things I like about Monte Cook's World of Darkness, its just a shame its lore is attached to a god awful dice system.

My ST had a game where a very low gen Caitiff was putting his blood in his own version of the jab to blood bond the world, and had a unique discipline to keep it potent enough to last through the distribution process. Finally found one I can comment on. Was playing this in early college when it came out. Very new and very fun. My TTRPG group were some of the first to try it in our area. All of our group were min/max fags trying to diablerize their way to 3rd gen or something. It got really stupid with bad players.

Anyway then came MUSHes...which is where the good shit went from 1993-1998 or so were the golden years for that. I think it was mid 90s that LARPing became a thing and I think thats mostly what people did at college since you could meet big tiity goth girls pretending to be vampires.

Yup, mid 90s until early 2000s it was fucking huge. The WoD group at my school was enormous because there was this overlap between the more classical foam sword Larpers, the WoD ones, and then just the regular tabletop players. First game I ever had we were 8 in the group, and people kept bugging us to join in.

The Lonely Watchtower is a mysterious 6th Tower which a mage can write their name on it even if having their name already written in another Watchtower. It's a plot hook for ST and this Watchtower is never mentioned again.
The quest's OP considers these two Watchtowers were the same.

As for the question though... I'm not sure if there is a splat left that wouldn't step on something else's toes. We've got vampires as the nominal intelligent, waking dead. We have shapeshifters. We have magic. We have Faeries. We even have synthetic life in the form of Promethean, so unless you wanted to backport that to oWoD as a full splat...

The only semi-universal broad monster left is what, Dragons? And honestly I don't think they'd quite work as player characters.

there are two setites, and basicly the baali main character who are all 14 year old girls, are tremere who is young boy and the lasombra og clan book has a child protégé as premade character

the vampires basically don't treat them different, but mentally they are, especially lasombra one talks about that out of character: child vampires only act like adults or rather how they think adults act the moment things go out of control and they get frightened they revert to children and need their mentors, but again they are still treated as full vampires so if your mentor/sire/bestie/ says no i can't or won't help you they are screwed and there will be no mercy

What mortal doctrine would best translate to kindred combat? I just don't really see any of them playing well with the masquerade.
That and I would imagine that spy work would be the main point of comparison with mortal conflict.

Chemical or biological warfare (Animalism says hello), WMD as a deterrence (every Euro vampire society is three Discipline uses away from some red button), surveillance, economical/logistical blocade. Maybe psy-ops and brainwashed suicide attacks disguised as common crime, but this is just normal, non-wartime vampire shenanigans.
Ghosts provide additional level of secrecy, although they can be painfully volatile and prone to going off the deep end.

>Chemical or biological warfare

>What would make for interesting crossovers and inspirations for CofD or WoD?
Its kind of funny how well Ubisoft stuff work as game premises for WoD and CofD.
