Update on the Ryuutama threadI am now in possession of supplement 1. I will scan it tonight and begin translation, scans will go to this thread first. Supplement 2 has been ordered but has yet to arrive Base Game PDF: https://anyflip.com/ijcxu/ujwo/basic

>>87445024Man, i would love to gm a ryuutama game but my players are all autistic 3.5e tards capeshit sniffers and making them play a comfy game would probably cause them a seizure.
>>87446969My group is the same, but with DnD 5e. It's fucking suffering, to the point where I'd rather play with Randos and try new systems than play with them, my IRL friends.
>>87446969>>87447225It sounds like you two never asked them in real life.
>>87447633I did for other games, specifically i asked for trying a Primetime Adventures game together and while saying it was ok to they made also clear they would prefer playing d&d. Heck i'm lucky they let me gm gurps but that's because i was able to make them play it before they crystallised on their positions over the course of time (sunk cost fallacy with what they've mastered plus gamestyle preference). If you think it's fine trying to play a game with someone that begrudgingly accepted to partecipate you're in for a terrible time.

>>87447669>>87447225>>87446969My issue is everyone I know only ever wants to do D&D5e or Cyberpunk 2020. But I’ve slowly managed to convince them by saying we’ll borrow the combat and dice mechanics from Fabula Ultima.
Why doesn’t the thread organize a Ryuutama game?

Update:Supplement book, the significantly more rare one, will arrive next week.I have decided to go to Best Buy today to get a better scanner so that the scans can both be higher quality and so I have less risk damaging the books
I thought this stuff got fan translations at least 2-3 years ago
>>87451951Did they? No one can find them
>>87451918yay!
>>87451960I'm pretty sure they've been done as word docs or something. I remember seeing that one has rules for playing as Nekogoblins, there's stuff for more vehicles and ocean travel, etc
>>87452000So Op is wasting his time and money?
>>87452000>I remember seeing that one has rules for playing as NekogoblinsMight have been their "holiday package" that they have on their website? It's pretty skimpy in terms of content, but at least it's "official" stuff.
>>87452231New high quality scans are never a waste, especially if the old scans are so hard to find that nobody on the board is even sure they exist.

>>87457768While I can understand the joy that comes from calling others retarded, it's important to understand that rulebooks are more than just the rules themselves. There's been a few threads recently devoted to slavering over the artstyle present in the Japanese D&D books, and I would have to agree that there's enjoyment in simply looking at a good illustration even if moonrunes aren't something accessible to you. Also important to keep in mind is that trusting in translations is retarded and you should hang yourself for thinking that a high-quality scan of the source material is a waste of time.

Did the Trove ever get its hands on a copy of Shinobigami before it was kill? I'm pretty sure it was the same startup who translated Ryuutama.

Anybody here has any experience with this one?I like what I read in the core book, but I am not sure how does it works out in practice.
>>87463895Other than the stat dice system Fabula Ultima plays almost nothing like Ryuutama. Still fun though
>>87463895Most people agree to take the stat dice system and combat mechanics and use them for Ryuutama to get the ideal RPG

>>87464212The core book is already in the thread, and you can get all the sheets and holiday stuff from the localizer’s site. They’re called Passport 1 and Passport 2. This thread is OP scanning passport 1
>>87464062Yea. Some anon posted some rules here about this. We played it. It's pretty damn amazing all things considered. Damn near ideal indeed.

>>87451951It had no pictures whatsoever. Its basically lost media since the US company have to commission brand new ones anyway, which may never be finished
>>87458183>shotaInteresting....
>>87466388No doc, just this “ Ryuutama is pretty good if you enjoy traveling games. There was a guy shilling it left and right (probably ironically making fun of another guy looking back at it). The aforementioned guy who was being made fun of did some math about how it has perfect scaling and bonuses, but I don't give a shit. I'd actually recommend Fabula Ultima if you want a more combat focused game, rather than a travel focused on, or just combine them.I did so recently. The stats are equivalent anyways. Choose one FU class as your class and one Ryuutama class as your background. Choose the type to add some bonuses. I prefer keeping the Ryuutama HP/MP, and just divide the MP cost of FU spells cost by 5, rounded up. Combat is from FU (way deadlier using Ryuutama stats), travel from Ryuutama. When you level you get a skill point to spend in your or another class as per FU, and all the Ryuutama level based stuff. Max level is 10. So if you multiclass you are gaining a breath of options but won't get access to the ultimate from FU.Ignore the starting level 5 and mandatory multiclassing from FU, ignore the bonus class/type and combat actions gained at level 2 from Ryuutama.”Can someone make a PDF explaining how to do it?
>>87467567>Can someone make a PDF explaining how to do it?It's literally two paragraphs and one of them is a single sentence. Why the fuck do you need a pdf explanation?
>>87458203>there is no point to artI sure hope you are not a DM, because damn, I am trully sorry for your players
>>87467628I'm amusing he meant diagrams and visual aid
>>87468622At that point you might as well just homebrew them together into a third system. That set of instructions is incredibly straightforward if you have both pdfs. The only part that isn't 100% clear as written is that choosing a type refers to choosing between physical/technical/magical types in Ryuutama
What exatly is Ryuutama?
>>87469905A Japanese rpg focused more on exploration
Sorry for not updating yesterday. I kinda wanted to take a break since Sunday was my only day off
dont worry sweet anon thanks for this, I might start a oneshot of this if my friends decide to not play pathfinder for one damn time
ryuujin bump
>>87468706If you have both PDFs you kind of know what type means though. So it's not even that hard to understand. Not like the rest is hard to understand either. Simple instructions.
>>87472646I'm know, I'm talking about clarity in context of the instructions alone. Everything else is retard-proofed by saying which book to crib from except for the type sentence. A retard wouldn't figure it out until they actually bothered to read or at least skim through both books and stumble upon the Type sections. Someone with passing familiarity with Ryuutama but has only heard that FU uses Ryuutama stat dice might also assume that FU has Types under the idea that FU is Ryuutama but Final Fantasy. It's just technical writing autism, no worries.
>>87468706wow, is FU really the best possible system to oair wirh Ryuutama? I might havs to go check it out. its just been released, right? hopw it qasnt pdfsgare'd so soon
>>87474408what the fuck
>>87447225Of you are the GM just tell them next campaign is in So and So and that's it. What are they going to do about it? Become GMs? I don't think so.
>>87445024>anyflipAnon... why?https://gofile.io/d/7mjS40
>>87467567>>87467628 Let's break it down a bit>The stats are equivalent anyways.Strength=Might, Dexterity=Dexterity, Intelligence=Insight, Spirit=Willpower,>Choose one FU class as your class and one Ryuutama class as your background. So, basically dual-class with one FU and one Ryuutama class, I guess.>Choose the type to add some bonuses.Ruutama Core Book pg. 52 (Attack, Technical, Magic)>I prefer keeping the Ryuutama HP/MP, and just divide the MP cost of FU spells cost by 5, rounded up.HP=Str×2, MP=Spi×2>Combat is from FU (way deadlier using Ryuutama stats), travel from Ryuutama.Obligatory. Thought it's actually near impossible to die in FU (it requires the player's consent and special circumstances)>When you level you get a skill point to spend in your or another class as per FU, and all the Ryuutama level based stuff. Max level is 10. So if you multiclass you are gaining a breath of options but won't get access to the ultimate from FU.Not sure about this one. The max level/class is 10 in FU and you just get their Heroic skill. The exp requirements are also different in the 2 games but so are the ways of earning xp.>Ignore the starting level 5 and mandatory multiclassing from FU, ignore the bonus class/type and combat actions gained at level 2 from RyuutamaPretty much the exact opposite of what he said earlier...
>>87474408It already is in the PDF share.>>87475390The "skill point" is basically gaining a level in any skill from any class. But if you go into a different class you can never get that heroic skill from either since you need level 10 in a class. The last one isn't the opposite. In FU you NEED to start with 5 levels spread across two or three classes (so 4-1, 3-2, 3-1-1, or 2-2-1 level spread). What anon suggested is to just get one class at level 1. Also at level 5 and 6 in Ryuutama you get a second class (what anon calls backgrounds) and type. He suggests ignoring that. And at level 2 you get the Feint and Search actions. Get those at level 1.
>>87475390I guess it’s just hard to visualize it all without being mixed into the same work, but this translation could make some sense.Would it use the FU dice is based on level system?
>>87475616Thanks, I just got confused because the max level in Ryuutama and the the max level/class in FU are both 10.In that case I guess we should use Ryuutama's leveling system because FU's would hit max level pretty damn fast.
>>87475390>Pretty much the exact opposite of what he said earlier...In Ryuutama you get an extra class and extra type (or double up on your current type) as you level up. Saying to ignore that doesn't conflict with the earlier instruction to choose a class from each and a type from Ryuutama at chargen, anon.
>>87476298That's what anon suggested, yes. It's mostly Ryuutama with FU classes and combat. At some point he did mention adding Zeldatama and other stuff but I guess he never got around to it.
I wonder how reskinning the SPIRE/HEART system would work for Ryuutama.
>>87477047>SPIRE/HEARTAs someone who never heard of it, it sounds utterly random. I think Ryuutama's development was inspired by Dragon Quest III. So getting the rog game feeling from Fuck You makes sense. I carefully spelt this time lol
>>87477986>Rog Fuck!!!! I don't know what autocorrect is doing
The entire book has been scanned! But I still gotta clean up said scans to be like the quality you see in the thread. Should I still post individual pages, or just finish the clean up and make the PDF?
>>87478837I'd say just finish it.
>>87478837lul, both
>>87479243The reason I asked was for speed. It will take longer to show every page vs just plowing through cleaning them up to put them in a PDF
>>87478837Agreeing with the other anon, better to finish it first.
>>87469905I've heard it described as Hayao Miyazaki's Oregon Trail
>>87479985Adding Miyazaki makes that summary really misleading, because Ryuutama travel can really fuck players up even in the lighthearted campaigns
>>87479985That what the localizer say on the back of the book and it’s stupid. It misunderstands Miyazaki’s film style and is misunderstands Oregon trail ad a video game
>>87480016Also, 99% of any tables too game session, including Ryuutama, will have a better story than a Miyazaki film, which are almost always devoid of story

Most of these classes are new right? I'm still reading the pdf with the classes (I am at Hunter) but these are more correct? Like navigator. so this is an expansion right?
>>87483810Yes. There were two expansions for the game that never got official English releases. All the classes you see here are for the first expansion, which has been scanned for the first time ever in this thread.Expansion 2 isn’t translated at all and will be scanned when OP gets the book later.
>>87483850Aaah thank you guys I love you! This system is so fun and the dice system is so cute.
Reminder that the foreign language editions of the core rulebook also came with exclusive classes. iirc the French rulebook as the teacher class
>>87480026Spirited away and Mononoke Hime are the best and have a lot of story. Outside of Totoro most have story. I'd argue something like Howl's moving castle is pretty weird to watch for story, and Tales of Earthsea is just confusing (yea I know it's his son making it but still). But that's about it. Admittedly I've yet to watch the last few films but...>>87480016Yea pretty much. It's really deadly. My first TPK was against a level 1 party in Ryuutama just messing up their rolls enough to die. I also definitely shouldn't have given them a combat. They equipped themselves for it, which resulted in a suboptimal prep for travel, and then it kinda went south.
>>87484655Hmm by looking at the italian material I found some scenarios and an official guide to how to play as neko-goblin. I'm not sure if it's useful, it's probably knew but I might try to gather some info. I'll order the corebook too to check if they have other classes.

>>87485973friend I would love to run/play a big, giant campaign, but this is the best I can pull off from the people I play with. If it's not pathfinder they start screeching. Maybe with a oneshot I can show them the game and hope for a longer campaign. Maybe a play by post.. idk
>>87485700I thought it would take longer to get it working again. If you are the OP, thanks.
>>87486234are you me? only one of my players is on board for anything that isn't Pathfinder, or sold to them as "THE NEXT BIG GAME" we'll all play for the next 10 years.Ironic that he is the least experienced with trpgs of our group, and mostly played 5e.I really want to try out Ryuutama in the near future... >>87487575Godspeed, anon. I GMd a game of Ryuutama, and it ended up being the cutest shit. I'm too nice to make deadly combat anyway, so all the challenges got to be about just traveling to towns, helping people, and sometimes discovering that the head of state is just three nekogoblins in a trenchcoat. These passports look fantastic so far. I might have to recommend a second campaign for my group once these are all done!
>>87487947I'm looking at a pic right now. What makes this one better at not folding your book than your old one?
>>87487991I’m glad it’s a fun game. I actually haven’t played Ryuutama yet. As I said in the last thread, I went to a game store with a friend on my birthday and it happened to have a copy of the corebook, my friend saw it and bought it for me as a gift.I’ve only been aware of it’s existence for like 2 weeks. But when the thread mentioned the unscanned passports, I wanted to get that resolved. I hate it when a game’s books are inaccessible, even if the game is niche

>>87488058>>87488044Adding more to this, I had rented and used a V600 before when I TL’d a manga, and that is a significantly better scanner, but they were out of stock. The v39 isn’t significantly worse, but there’s a noticeable difference in quality
>>87487047cute
>>87454357True, but just don't be a dick about it. Just say "I'm sick of 5e. I'm gonna run Ryuutama. for a bit." And if they get pissy let the drama queen players leave. Apparently 5e GM's don't exist, so what are they gonna do? Find another GM?

Oh man. I need to temper my expectations for the inferior artstyle compared to first book, But I am so excited to feast my eyes on them
>>87489910Rip. Looks like we’ll need the other language versions of those pages for the classes. Did they have PDFs?>>87489864It’s not so much about being an anon, I’m very open with sharing my discord account on 4chan, Piper_of_Reason#3939, I just don’t feel a need to ask for money. If getting these books out there can breathe new life into the game and potentially make it more popular, I’ll be happy with it.
>>87489876Which book is that? I bought and uploaded Great Adventure which wasn't there at the time, last May.Also, gonna seriously try to push for some buds to try Ryuutama out with me soon.
>>87489966May RNGesus bless you, anonThank you for your service!
>>87481752Your DM’s are closed
>>87489971Oh wow, great! Yeah, that's the one. The book cover matches. Never mind then! This is the book that includes a marriage system. Great job, anon!
After looking around I found some discussion on the French classes. No complete lists but it's a start:Hermit>turn into an animal once per day but no duration was mentioned (not a monster, an animal)>can get a bonus check to Knowledge checks if the rest of the party fails their own Knowledge checks>can choose a skill from another class, which the Farmer can also doTamer:>has a ritual that tames an animal for 12 hours - requires the animal to already be captured and takes an hour to complete>hunter's animal capture skill>Meteorologist-can predict the weather conditions that'll occur on the next day
>>87490447The classes are all contained in the bonus book for French, the issue is I can only find it for sale physically for €20, I can’t find a PDF of it. It does say there are French exclusive stuff in the corebook, but I can’t figure out what that is
Okay, it is possible that I can order it from the French publisher, who will ship to Canada. I don’t live in Canada, but my friend does, so I can send it to him and he can send it to me
Well, $40 later I have the French bonus book with the new classes ordered. It will be going to my Canadian friend who will send it to me.
>>87491134Based OP taking several for the team
>>87445024I'm in this board only because I downloaded Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and I wanted some insight into the real thing but this sounds pretty fun with how you create a world together and go out to explore it. I think I'd prefer something like this over generic fantasy epic quest if I were to play a tabletop RPG honestly.
>>87491134God bless
>>87491201You should totally try it out anon. It’s a very fun game that gets people going a lot more than pathfinder or D&D since it’s not so hard on stats and numbers
It’s here!
>>87492326excellent
I feel like making some Ryuutama homebrew, lads. Who's with me?
>>87492326
>>87492410街と世界を巡る旅now this seems interesting
>>87490110I shall fix that. it is an off account so never touched settings.
>>87492603
>>87492613
>>87492326holy damn! it shines like gold
Half the book has been scanned so far, but gonna take a break to eat dinner
>>87492879Hope it is a tasty dinner anon. Love the b&w image
If this game is so good, why does nobody talk about it or play it? Why did it go out of print? Sounds like a bad game to me
>>87492937None of this is literally true. It gets reprints all the time. Next restock is march. Someone always bitches kodami is slow as fuck to release the supplements for literally years
>>87492959Tfw a random guy who had never heard of the game is gonna fully scan and translate the supplements before Kodami despite the 7 year headstart
>>87492579>Trans girl maid on the rightDidn't expect to see that
>>87493015It’s a replay, lots of random stuff happens
>>87492959They only restock the core book. Other than the free pdf that came out like 9 years ago we haven't gotten any supplements yet, hence this thread.>kodamiIt's Kotohi, lad.
>>87493046A company being incredibly incompetent=/= unpopular.
>>87493054No one talks about this game. Even in table top circles
>>87493062That applies to any non DnD games in general
>>87489971>>87490221Got a gofile link? Looks interesting.
>>87493221It's in the trove, see >>87485422 -- its in the RAWs and I didn't make a PDF of it. A partial transcript should be in there too (untranslated)
>>87493339Ah thank you!
>>87493221It's in the trove. I'm the past bin, I believe it's the second link -> Raws folder -> Meikyuu Kingdom. It's a bit confusing since it includes a spin off boardgame, the previous edition, the spinoff version that's basically Persona and so on. The newest edition are three books>Meikyuu Kingdom 2009>Meikyuu Kingdom Advanced Rules 2019>Meikyuu Kingdom GREAT ADVENTURE RAWI assume the first book is the entirety of the previous two book edition and the second book is all new. But I have no idea. I have too much of ADHD to really look into it
>>87451105nobody wants to GM
>>87492691Beautiful artwork! No way this is the same quality throughout lol
>>87492879Book has been fully scanned, working on clean up now>>87493508It varies in quality yes, but there are lot of illustrations of this quality
FML I just realized there was a hair on my scanner and it got in nearly every page including the covers.Do I rescan the entire book or just roll with it?
>>87493597You work so diligently, I'd say roll with it. I doubt it would affect the Google translate much if at all
>>87493489GMing Ryuutama is one of the easiest GMing. You world build together, you get characters to rp results of checks, you have your own avatar...getting players that understand the theme of the game and embrace it is the hard part.
>>87493597I would say rescan since your scan will be out there in the net for ever now and will be what people use if they want to make a really nice looking edit of it into English. But take a break and do it another time if you need to.
>>87493597>>87493629>>87493656So outside of it on illustrations, I can just edit it out. The shair was above the gray line originally
>>87493740Great! You're crazy good at this
>>87493597Update on the hair situation. I did my best to clean it up on this page, where it appeared directly on the illustration. If you look at the hand that holds the fan, the hair went from the hand to the border of the frame
>>87493597>>87492691Hair digitally removed
>>87446969>>87447225Thank god I've developed a group of adventurous players over several years. If I ever feel like I wanna run a new system I just gotta ask them and like 90% of the time they're fully on board. We've played Vampire, Lancer, PF2E, DND 5e, Cyberpunk, Space Kings, and now we're gearing up to try Ryuutama next. What's great is that I don't even have to GM all the time. One of my players is busy learning Shadowrun and is going to run that for us next.
What's the purpose of farmers? I just finished reading all the classes and it doesn't look that appealing? Having 3 animals for free is a huge advantage? Genuine question
>>87494727to RP a farmer who gets the calling and goes on an adventure.
>>87494785goddamn I need to get out of this metagame mentality
>>87493046>>kodami>It's Kotohi, lad.You should have corrected him to Kotodami since Kotohi is abbreviation.
bump
>>87496003Pretty sure OP is asleep
>>87496184Ye I'm just making sure the thread doesn't die
>>87492377I actually did. Made a berry farmer and fisherman class. They are useful in limited situations, but they arw fun. Might share them if I ever feel like translating them into English and formating them.
>>87497143I been thinking to make a tabaconist, brewer and a toymaker class. I have toruble thinking how to balance RP aspects with actual fun tangible skills.
>>87497143>>87497170Aren't most of these farmer/hunter/artisans classes tho?
>>87497219That comes down to how you create them of course. Basic classes are made to cover a wide range.
>>87497253Ah alright yes, yeah I like that. I wanted to make an artisan focused on soapmaking since that stuff sounds very useful. Right now I'm at the spell list so I'm still finishing the pdf
>>87467567So are weapons and equipment are from ryuutama?
>>87494886>KotodamiIt's Kotodama
>>87498139Travel equipment is from Ryuutama, weapons and are from FU. You could combine them, using Ryuutama armor as damage reduction and FU armor as your to hit number. But then you'd need to assign each FU armor a Ryuutama classification, which isn't that hard. You could do the same with weapons, just to use carry capacity, which, again, not that hard, since mostly they correspond to Ryuutama weapons and armor. Except Tomes. I just use them as size 1 though.>>87497219Yea, depends on how you do them. To TL;DR, them, berry farmer grows berry equivalent of herbs, but they also count as food, while the fisherman catches food, but can also drag up random baubles that can sell or even hire a fishing ship for cheaper. I did use the translated doc for that one.I did also brew races, kind of stealing from Zeldatama, but instead of getting all three, I made four for each and you choose two (or one general and subrace, or one and increase a stat by one for Humans).
>>87445024>>87445222
boomp
>>87499198Anon did upload it though
Hi all, obviously at work until later today, but I will finish cleaning up book 2 tonight and will have it posted. Worst case I’ll make a new thread
How do i learn japanese to read these books?
>>87498160You're right, a simple typo.
>>87502732The same way you learn Japanese to read other Japanese books. You'd better get started now because Japanese fluency in speaking will take 2200 hours according to government. Coincidentally there are 2200 basic jouyou kanji that young school children learn and you're probably looking at another year for those with intense study. But Ryuutama isn't aimed at young children and I don't know how many different kanji are in it so maybe add a few months to another year to pick up those as you encounter them.
>>87502732Just wait for the tl OP will do. Or use google
doing a few pages while on break, there is a LOT more art than the first book had
>>87504208Buying a ticket to move there and become a salt farmer.
>>87499137Thanks for answering all these clarification questions. What about in terms of monsters?
>>87504208And its good art to. Nice to see.
>>87504208>>87504261This is so much better than I expected. I imagine that's a lot of commissioned art to replace all the pictures for the official translation
>>87504565Will there be an official translation? There’s been years of silence on it
>>87504489FU would fit best here, since combat is FU based, and there is a class that uses monster abilities.
This thread has got me thinking about the viability of running Ryuutama but in Dragon Quest 11s world as regular people wandering and exploring the landmarks and towns of the game.
>>87505099>99your too good for your players
>>87505099I think Ryuutama is a good system for a majority of jrpgs. I’d LOVE it for Xenoblade for instance
>>87505078Officially, it's just empty promisesbat this point. No point to mention the Kickstarter thing
>>87505099>>87505318Im sure you guys could come up with something BETTER than a preexisting ip..
>>87505629Not me! I'm gonna go with a Philippines vibe, meshmashing different cultural themes throughout its history for the different locations. I might even do black ryuujins campaign now that the FU combat is an option
>>87505629Original world doesn't mean better, it is what you do in the world that really counts. It would be fun to see famous places that I love from the world and how everyday people like a farmer may interact with then rather than a heroes party. Nothing wrong at all with it.
>>87505745Sort of like Star Wars Galaxies mmo
>>87506775very cute nekorikusha
Dead thread
>War Metafield>Erects a barrier around the battlefield, trapping friend and foe alike. Within the field, damage rolls made by allies gain a +1 bonus, and damage they receive is reduced by 1. However, all objects in the battlefield disappear. Nobody may leave or enter the field while the spell is active. This includes also party's weapons and the rest of their belongings?
>>87508607'Objects' refers to a specific mechanics of the combat procedure, which are like items/props laying around the battlefield which may be incorporated into attacks for a small bonus.
>>87505099Where is this map from?
>>87508683Ah crap, thanks anon, I am reading the spell list part, still to go to the rest.
what is this game about? whats the setting and theme?
>>87509148Regular folk go on journeys in anime fantasyland. Their adventures form tales which are “food” for the titular Ryuutama, dragons with some godlike powers.Setting and tone JRPG / ghibliiesque / cozy but at times deadly. No “canonical” world
>>87509148The setting is super light. It's like the Disney fairies series but replace fairies with dragons.
>>87509781>It’s like the Disney fairies seriesSo there’s an entire storyline about sneaking your sister across the border as an illegal immigrate?
>>87510002I said setting lol. The gm gets to be Tinkerbell's slave or Periwinkle's slave who stalks your party to leech off belief in fairies to feed their master so they can continue to keep the world functioning
Thanks for all the hard work! See you next thread since we hit limit
>>87511844love you legend
>>87509415>>87509781huh, I wonder how a session would play out
OP here:Sorry it’s been so long since my last update, occupied with some family stuff. Nothing bad, just time consuming
>>87512595No worries. Just make another thread for book 2 and translations.
