SHINE update.
(Action Horror RYOAdventure)

Testing is complete. Now entering the final stage of production.
This will consist mainly of small value tweaks, the CYOA Mode, and Epilogue. It should take no more than a couple days of brainstorming and execution.
Once it is optimized, I will then upload it to my sta.sh account, with both JPG and PNG formats. I will also include a high-rez standalone copy of the Map, and cited sources to all the art I used, minus a few.

I will publicly upload first to infinity, because I can have my own thread for it there, where I can respond more quickly and accurately to questions, because 4chan still has my phone rangebanned, and I work too much right now to keep up with /cyoag/.
Then, I will make a pastebin post and link everything there. I will also include a sample copypasta text for the sequential main game mechanic, which you will need to keep track of your stats, items, and so forth.

After all that is done, I will post to /cyoag/.
The TARGET day of release is Saturday, November 26, when I come home from work. It is the only time I expect to have to myself at home for several days. But with boomer family, who knows.

If you've been following this project, thank you very much for your patience. It took a while to make, and it still might not be perfect, but I am quite pleased with the result, and I hope at least some of you will enjoy it

There be three broad posters of the general, born before memory or fable, whose mothers are whores and whose father was abusive. There names be Moralfag, Lolifag, and Chaosfag.

And Moralfag is the joy of low magic; and Lolifag hath bowed his neck to the yoke of waifus, and carries the OC from the trash pile far up below the general; and Chaosfag sings old songs to newfags, singing of his youth of samefagging. These be the posters of quality, wherein the general rejoices. But oldfags tell, whose fathers heard it from the ancientfags, how once the three lords of qualityposting rebelled against the law of the Boards, and passed beyond their boundaries, and joined together and whelmed jannies and slew threads, saying: "We now play the game of the skubwar and shitpost for our pleasure, and we be greater than the mods of /TG/."

And all the general was flooded with shit.

And Moralfag, Lolifag, and Chaosfag shat upon the threads, and spread their greasy hands over their shitposters that rebelled by their command.

But the reports of Celt going upward found the IRC, and cried in the ear of the mods: "There be three shitposters who slay threads for their pleasure, and say that they be mightier than mods, and play Their game with anons."

Then were all the mods of /TG/ very wroth; but They could not whelm the lords of the shit, because being evading shitposters, though small, they were unbannable.

And still the shitposters spread their hands across the threads, with their fingers wide apart, and the shit rose and rose, and the voice of their deluge grew louder, crying: "Are we not Moralfag, Lolifag, and Chaosfag?"

some games have big updates every month for the first six months, others have big updates every six months for ten years, it doesn't matter to me, i pirate them if i want to play them and only buy them if they've outdone themselves

>>86803200
since i'm talking about actual games that i've followed from a terrible release and through update cycles that fixed and improved everything, like kingmaker for example, i think i'm fine
>>
>>86803211
Yeah, no. If they can't do it right upon release, a company deserves nothing from me. Shit taste and a retarded willingness to give moneygrubbing whores the benefit of the doubt is why we can't have nice things.

Yeah but then it should be priced once the game is fully fixed. Otherwise it's bad for the devs (bad publicity) and the players (feeling let down).
I don't know a lot of people okay with the patches solution. A bit like Cyberpunk you know? No matter the current quality, it would be wasted if the anime didn't brought back audience.

pricing is irrelevant to whether a game that is shit at the start can or cannot become good later on, so i consider this a change of topic, and again since i just pirate that shit until i have proof of quality it's personally completely irrelevant to me

Yes, I have been playing modern and commander periodically since Dragons of Tarkir. Giving the player the ability to choose a specific card for a build sounds like a cool Idea. Perhaps a general spells list could be given to unfamiliar players and options for the experienced to choose their favorite cards.
It would be fun to have a planeswalker waifus option.
Additionally, it would be fun to see implementations of the color pie philosophy and even the dual color philosophy. Perhaps if a player chooses a lot of red options he can gain some extra points by taking a weakness attributed normally to red (impulsiveness, rageful, etc..) and so forth with the rest of the color pie.
P.S.pls add genderbent big booba sarkhan vol planeswalker waifu option.

>interferes with life
NooOoOOOOO you gotta work and be unhappy like the rest of us!!

"To the teachers of selfiessness. - A person's virtues are called good with
respect to their presumed effects not on him but on us and society - the
praise of virtues has always been far from 'selfless', far from 'unegoistic'!
For otherwise one would have had to recognize that the virtues (such as
diligence, obedience, chastity, piety, justice) are mostly harmful to their
possessors, being drives which dominate them all too violently and
covetously and in no way let reason keep them in balance with the other
drives. When you have a virtue - areal, complete virtue (and not just a
small drive towards some virtue) - you are its victim! But the neighbour
praises your virtue precisely on that account! One praises the diligent even if he should harm his vision or the originality and freshness of his
spirit; one honours and feels sorry for the youth who has 'worked
himself to death' because one thinks: 'For society as a whole the loss of
even the best individual is merely a small sacrifice! Too bad that the
sacrifice is necessary! It would surely be much worse though if the
individual had thought otherwise and considered his own preservation
and development more important than his work in the service of
society!' And so one feels sorry for this youth, not for his own sake but
because a devoted tool, ruthless towards itself - a so-called 'good man' -
has been lost to society through his death." - Friedrich Neetzsche (1882): The Gay Science, I. 21.

SHINE (WIP) update
I've written the CYOA Mode in, which became a condensed arrangement of options (you) will use to describe your decisions and sensibilities during your time on the island.
As part of that, I've got some lists of things out of context, so I don't mind giving you a peek.

I should have the CYOA Mode dialed in by Wednesday night, and during that time I will write the Epilogue, which I should have ready by Thursday night.
Everything I've mentioned here >>86802444 still seems very doable.

I must stress that anyone who really cares should post on the thread I will create on infinity, because I won't be able to talk to anybody on 4chin most of the day, thanks to them rangebanning my phone, and I'm too dumb to figure my way around it

Yeah the balance is shit. Halfblood is way too good compared to the other two.

Muggleborn should get 20 points instead of 10.
Pureblood should get an extra 0.5 affinity to one category and their free points should be for either items or inborn traits.

Italics made a comment saying fhe universe /magic emegered from a single mono existenxe and all will return to it eons into the future when asked about the cosmology of Magi. He said this doesn't practically matter what so ever in what you will be doing in the CYOA.

Determinism spergs out about not being able to live eons and surpass this event of returning to the origin. Literal retardism.

>>

>>86816487
Also expand the housing system. It's a good set up for a sub-CYOA, but we can add more like the ability to pick our children. Give each race 1 child and 1 human child.

Rat waifu gives you rat son or human daughter with rat ears/tail.
>>
>>86816509
Both I guess. I remember Echoes to be decent when it came out and it'll be interesting to see what got extended and how he changed as an author.
Magi Case was anticipated by the thread for years, so I'm curious to see what's the WIP that survive everything, skubwar included. It'd be a shame to see Italics delay it once again. Also it's been a while since we had a compact wordy original CYOA here.

>>86816627
I'm not sure if CYOAs have end games beyond satisfying the author and being playable by most. We should ask Italics that question the next time he lurks.
Magi Case being our equivalent of Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of reception would be hilarious.

So Italics releases a broken CYOA? It crashes and burns all his cred. He then gets an anime may made and then everyone lraises it was one of the best CYOAS ever made and not deserving of its trashing. He then makes a unnecessary sequel CYOA with everyone being excited about it and makes you pay for content for Magi?

You can literally skip forward and backwards at times when you raised them. The fuck do you mean it's a nightmare? Hell they can be easier than real life childrearing. Stop coping and making excuses.
>>
>>86817955
Very well, if I were to skip forwards in time then perhaps taking care of my children would matter. But I mean NOW. I'm self inserting as myself, anon. I don't need a trad wife who derives self worth from doing basic housewife stuff. I need a woman with ambition and dreams beyond the house and bedroom. I want to be a POWER COUPLE. A trad wife would bore the ever loving shit out of me. I want a girl who takes me along on her journey.
And it's not about how hard it is you fool, it's about the fact there's an entire sapient life who looks up to you and will be shaped by you and you've got to fucking make sure they have a good life.

The Magi Case doesn't need its own original constructed world completely separated from reality with magic out all day in the opening. Doing that would ruin the mystery, effort, and most importantly the design and flow of the CYOA/setting.

Bonus: The Magi Case also originated as a Spire CYOA and didn't take place in our real world, but that thrown out due to my loss of half of the original written content. In hindsight it was a good thing because the original lore/writings/conflicts for it were garbage and not interesting compared to now.
>>
>>86821113
Masquerade settings are inherently uninteresting.
The moment you place fantastical elements in a world where realism dominates, it falls flat.
Moreover, it wouldn't ruin the "mystery" whatsoever, if you possessed the barest modicum of skill. Then again, it is you we're talking about.
>>
>>86821145
>Masquerade settings are inherently uninteresting.
For you.

>The moment you place fantastical elements in a world where realism dominates, it falls flat.
That didn't stop people from coming up with stories about fairies living in forests and kidnapping children. We have stories that don't have fantastical elements set in a world where realism dominates and they too fall flat. The word is called fiction for a reason and suspends belief to tell a story for fun or enjoyment.

>Moreover, it wouldn't ruin the "mystery" whatsoever, if you possessed the barest modicum of skill. Then again, it is you we're talking about.
Well, fuck you too.
>>
>>86821240

I think a masquerade *failing* is really interesting as an idea. Everything coming out and people fighting over keeping scraps of magical knowledge from being devalued by becoming common knowledge or trying to take advantage and leverage their faction into the best position post-masquerade.

The problem is that the actual masquerade itself is just fucking dumb. Secret keeping is just fucking impossible on that sort of scale without resorting to stupid bullshit. The idea of the urban fantasy setting where wizards and werewolves are hiding everywhere but just somehow go unnoticed and as a result everything is the same is just retarded when you spend any time thinking about it. It also implies that muggle humans are just retarded not to notice all this.

I kinda like the idea of a world where some sort of weird reality colliding bullshit happens and a bunch of people *retroactively* become supernatural. Like, you've been working your dead end office job for the last few years as boring mcfucking no-one, but wake up one day with the memories, skill and knowledge of a hundred year old member of the magical masquerade. All your magical contacts are the same, Doris in accounting suddenly recalls she's the city's head witch etc. Just a bunch of normal boring people inexplicably combining with a reality where actually there was a very classic urban fantasy style supernatural masquerade and having to deal with being a mundane person with a normal job and a sudden influx of werewolfism or whatever.

Except things almost immediately starts to fall apart because the urban fantasy has lost all it's bullshit inertia. Shit like how you can't keep the wizard tower that suddenly has always been hidden in that small forest conveniently near your house secret from the tax man, even if they've no clue how the fuck they missed this thing, and basically the 'masquerade' dissolves when it meets reality like sugar in coffee.

>>86821792
I think I should chime in that the Mage populace in the Magi Case is around 0.13% of the entire human race (around 9 million people and declining), so the average person encountering one or seeing magic is extremely, extremely, extremely low. Encountering werewolves, fairies, and such are also quite rare as they spawn randomly and often in the middle of nowhere since the world is a big place, they're not living in big metropolis cities like a Harry Potter or typical western fantasy brought into modernity.
>>
>>86821848
Okay. Then your CYOA is bullshit and unrealistic, even for a fantasy.
>>
>>86821855

>>

No further explanation is needed. You are the epitome of retardation, what with your bullshit excuses, masquerade havingness, and memory wiping spell nonsense. Every conspiracy falls eventually. >>

>>
>>86822021
>deals can be made in secret and kept
Not for millenia. Retard. Keep on peddling your excuses. It's funny.
>>
All stories are contrived by their very nature (since the writer has to move characters from plot point A to plot points B, C, D and so on). A secret being hidden from the masses is way more realistic than things that move faster than light or things that break the laws of thermodynamics.
>>
>>86822045
And here with go with non sequiturs and abject dishonesty.
>>
>>86822030
>Not for millenia.
But the masquerade conspiracy isn't thousand years old and continuous. The deal with the TMC-Illuminati came about in the late-19th century and Magic as it exists and used now in its perfected state is only like 500 years old.
>>
>>86822061

Magic in its natural state is Creation which can be anything and everything without limit. The Magi as humans are products of Reason and because of this, they restrict Magic by giving it rules/effects. Magic for Magic became perfected when it became observable and defined as magical types and spells.

So yes, Magic is in its perfected state for Mages.

>>
>>86822215
>General relativity
Go ahead, point to the formula or rules in general relativity that was proved or proved a different rules to no longer work within the frame it was first formed with.
The "disproving" that Einstein did was expanding the model outside the scope it was originally thought in, all of Newton's rules are still taught in every school, even if they aren't exact enough. Because they work.
>>86822205
Not a case of an existing rule or model being being disproved, that was an argument against a specific model existing. From the history question:
>However, attempts to produce quantum field models for two of the four known fundamental forces - the electromagnetic force and the weak nuclear force – and then to unify these interactions, were still unsuccessful.
>>
>>86822293
>aren't exact enough
I accept your concession. This is proof we lack knowledge. A more advanced race would presumably possess greater knowledge than our own. Checkmate.
>>
>>86822230
>Anyway, what genre of CYOA do you enjoy best?
Variety is the spice of life. Night Drive has a place in my heart, aswell as Urban Unease, because of how they do plug into life. On the other hand I also greatly enjoy cyoas with a set premise you do not really bring anything to, like most of the oldschool fantasy ones with a thinly veiled isekai premise. I also like anything discussable in the thread, and the more existentially inspired stuff. Gnosticism is cool.
What about you?

>>86822293
>Go ahead, point to the formula or rules in general relativity
No. Also planetary orbits being off with newtonian formulas is the literal reason Einstein developed it, so yeah.
>>
>>86822317
Lack knowledge only about things we haven't seen or looked at. Things we looked at still behave the exact same as the rules we formed 100 or 200 years ago.
So the basics of thermodynamics will never be broken anywhere on earth or remotely near it.
>>86822322
Newton's laws work on earth, which is the frame they were written in and about. You won't be able to find a way to break them here, same with thermodynamics.
>>
>>86822322
I enjoyed A Life Chronicle. I once enjoyed JRPG Traitor, but a second glance at the lore ruined it for me. Overall, CYOAs which mix slice-of-life iyashiskei-style minutiae with high fantastical adventure, Victorian detective-style mystery, and lovey-dovey harem romance interest me most, though it saddens me how there aren’t many, and even of those which do exist, seldom are they autistically fleshed out.
Grimdark scenarios disinterest me. Settings wherein the concepts don't mesh or are insufficiently explain disinterest me.
>>
>>86822178
>Just like a masquerade would have been discovered.
That already happened, always, in every story. They're always about concepts that are well understood by the "outside world". The protagonist will understand every concept expressed when his uncle faints at his doorstep from bloodloss, and his first words upon waking up in the hospital are "Johnathan, your missing parents were aliens like me, and they didn't just disappear" [wrong, they will become his new mentors in the second book] "they were murdered by werewolves. I'm going to teach you their magic so that we can take revenge."

I once had a CYOA concept taking place in the Echoes Universe except it's in outer space and before the CYOA takes place. I really do want to make more sci-fi CYOAS especially one taking place in outer space, but what it would become is unknown. I sort of want to do something cool like Metroid or Star Fox or Star Wars, but the problem with space opera is that it's hard to make a general focus on characters/locations/history with how expansive space is. How do I make people care about the planets and conflicts of the factions in space? And how do I avoid falling into the standard trap of shipmaking/crew building that dominates so many of the space CYOA?

One dumb idea I came up with was to make a space farming (colony) simulator. Something unique no one has done before for CYOAs and to make it weird. Another was Castitas, each planet gives you options/characters/outcomes, but that wasn't viable in the long-run. Maybe, I'll figure it out in the future.

>Lamentation
I have the concept for Lamentation R~ floating around. The concept behind it was to take the most favored materials of Lamentation 2.0 and create a more narrative experience with defined villain characters, Humans/Comrade characters to recruit, and to give the player more narrative variety/freedom for their lives and how they ended up in their situation. Though, I'm wary of how it would turn out since Lamentation overall received a moderate success.
>>
>>86822393
What do you think about settings that require you to accept a premise quite heavily outside of well explored fantasy. Thinking stuff like The Hospital here, you are at the mercy of a lot of unexplained happenings that are never resolved but assumed for the sake of the setting.

>>
>>86822446
>See the induction paradox happening in real time?
I honestly don't, Newton's law of gravity is still being taught and used today for anything in earth, are you saying it isn't? Einstein's relativity is being used for things outside of earth, and one day we'll explain things that are far away enough using other laws, while still using both Einstein's and Newton's laws for what they were intended for, once again showing that rules expand on each other, not replacing them.

>>86822503
>>86822505 is completely correct. A rule claims to hold explainative value over a certain domain, and another rule "expanding on" it requires it to replace it in the same domain. Induction is the assumption that a specificum applies universally (or atleast at a higher scale), said thesis being *replaced* by a more refined rule set later on definitely needs to falsify the formerly assumed rule.

Pick whichever you think fits your criteria from here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superseded_theories_in_science
>>
>>86822574
While the old rule itself is indeed falsified, what it was used for, the practical examples and tests, the cases discussed within those example, it working in the scope it was formed in - isn't.
If the law of conservation says that energy of an isolated system stays the same, it does so in isolated systems. Based on how "replacing" rules and theories formed in the past, any new law that disproves that will have to find something that wasn't tested or verified, probably in a different scope, hence something so remote from regular energy systems we use and see in day to day on earth, something that never effected it in a way that was ever noticed, it would be ridiculous to think we'll ever reach or use it, even assuming it exists.
In other words, if net zero energy systems existed, we would have found them long ago.
>>
>>86822696
If you genuinely believe that, education is wasted on you.
>>
>>86822696
Contrary to reinforcement anon I believe it futile to argue about details. If you want to define a theory as not replaced if it is only falsified in sub-domains be my guest, I don't care enough. Falsification DOES still occur though. Rules per definitionem claim universality, and refinement ("expanding on") requires said universality to be limited/disproven. A rule established on limited experimentation is still falsified as a rule even if the experiments are not - claiming otherwise is what I called an induction paradox. Back and forth over but I'll read your retort.
>>
>>86822659
The opening paragraph repeats what I said
>Here are a bunch of theories from before scientific theory without much evidence, and here are some theories that were replaced that fit the data better
What you're arguing for is that the data for the same tests can change suddenly, that thermodynamics can be somehow broken in a realistic way here on earth or anywhere close enough for us to capitalize on it.

>Falsification DOES still occur though. Rules per definitionem claim universality
I agree. My entire argument, since the beginning, was that the common person's definition of what falsification means is a misconception. Yes, old theories are falsified. No, that does not mean that everything the theory said is false.
In logic language, a person like >>86822096 sees a non-tautology assertion and assumes it's a contradiction just because the word "false" or "disproved" is used there, hence suddenly everything that was impossible is now possible. When in reality, it's less accurate yet more understandable to describe it as "exapnding on the old", or "more accurate than before", not "everything we know can be wrong"
>>
>>86822910

>>86823013
The original conversation was about the likelihood of those things, not their possibility.
>Masquerade is so unrealistic and unlikely, it's ridiculous!
>Suspension of disbelief, sci fi stuff are more ridiculous and unlikely.
>But they're possible!
A secret magic group hiding for a thousand years is way more "realistic" than the rules of reality suddenly being proven wrong.
>>
>>86823047
No. Reality could breakdown right now and that'd would be more believable than a masquerade existing for that long. You misunderstand the depth of scale it takes for a conspiracy to not fall apart.
>>
>>86823062
Yeah~ that's when a masquerade-within-a-masquerade develops around the dark secret that the protagonist will uncover.
>>
>>86823062
And again, where are you getting that from? People and societies were fooled for tens of years, thousands of years is a big stretch from that. Logically, way less of a stretch from something that was tested yet never documented to happen suddenly happening.

>>
>>86823101
If it was only "rules changing", sure.
"Thermodynamics were completely wrong" like sci fi does is not that.
>a person sees a non-true assertion and assumes it's a contradiction just because the word "change" is used there, hence suddenly everything that was impossible is now just as likely to be possible.
The chance of thermodynamics being generally wrong (inaccurate) in one rule or the other? High. The chance of it being so wrong (inaccurate) you can find a way to ignore conservation of energy in a way you can use, see or touch? So extremely unlikely, it ironically comes out as
>Rules have always been different but no one saw it despite looking with a lot of motivation (infinite energy)
Which is way more unlikely than the regular "no one saw the secret society". People are way more motivated to get power and wealth than to uncover social truths or secrets.
>>
>>86823220
>Which is way more unlikely than the regular "no one saw the secret society".
Nope.
>>
>>86823225
The reason it's more unlikely is because of the part in the greentext; irl, secret societies happened. A scientific theory being completely wrong, where the very basic rules were false, didn't. That's the part you haven't answered yet.

Only if you think our comprehension of the fundamental framework of reality is perfect.
Which it is not.
>>
>>86823323
Just because something isn't perfect (accurate), doesn't mean it's completely wrong.
What you argue requires way more than "just not perfect", it requires "it's completely wrong on every level". Because the first law of thermodynamics was tested so much, for it to suddenly break in a way we can use is exactly
>Never remotely happened at all, nothing even similar, despite looking.
Ironically, you're arguing our comprehension of social structures/patterns (hidden societies, non-magical, regular humans) is perfect. At least, more perfect than actual reality.

>Never remotely happened at all, nothing even similar, despite looking.
