>>86793282>Are you doing any holiday-themed games or minis this year? If so, what?I dont have a group. I might sculpt some angels and attempt to make a nativity scene. i think if I paint them nicely they could be nice small gifts. Anyone has experience with buying from Lucid Eye studio? I like a lot of their red elf stuff. Any other recommendations for snow elves from Beleriend?
>>86793282>Are you doing any holiday-themed games or minis this year? If so, what?I was considering turning my siblings into miniatures and giving them as Christmas presents.>You mean, use them as a model while sculpting, or...?I'm a wizard.
>>86793878I haven't bought direct from them, but I do have some of their stuff- all good casts, excellent sculpts. Would recommend.
Thank you for all the kind words on my Gaslands stuff lads. I did actually rattle this Rocket Box out in a night or so.I have no idea how viable any of these builds are lel, just enjoying it.
>>86794760Needs a jet engine
>>86793282>Are you doing any holiday-themed games or minis this year?Nah, I'm just trying to find the motivation to get more into painting. My dudes are okay as long as they're at table distance, but leave much to be desired up close. Maybe Santa will bring me some git-gud.
>>86794760I think I would have done more metal plates. It seems kinda dumpy/durdley for a normal car.
What are you guys looking at for Black Friday? I am hoping to pick up some STLs, but I'm ignorant of where the best deals usually are for physical models.
>>86797945Money is tight, so nothing.Still debating if I should ask that /awg/ anon with the warzone sprues about a price.
>>86798204>>86797945Same. Probably nothing for me. Hoping fiance gets me the OOP Malifauz Metal Teddy.
If someone has the time to do so, can I get a detailed rundown of One Page Rules and how good/bad it is? I've got lots of minis from lots of games, and I want to use 'em.
>>86798558>detailed rundown>of One Page Rules. . . It's a system of basic rules you can get for free/cheap. It's got a sideline of stls for models. I think the rules are totally okay for what they are, an easy rule set you could come up with yourself in an afternoon. Some people here don't like OPR because they shilled their rulesets here.
>>86796014There are some jet engines or turbines in the Robogear range but I don't think I'll be getting any from Russia soon.>>86796601I do need to generally be a bit more "Mad Max" rather than my current approach, which is a bit... diorama-y. With it being a buggy class vehicle rather than a car I didn't really consider it, especially with the weird shape.
>>86798558There are detailed rundowns on YouTube, and the rules are free; look at them and decide for yourself.
>>86798792lol that Poke-Truck is great.
>>86798836Thanks lad, I do beat up normal stuff too.I think I've found my next inspiration, to actually do a proper typical "Gaslands" muscle car with loads of spikes and plates and whatever.
>>86798792Man, Ash really let himself go after winning pokemon championships
What are your favorite /awg/ related podcasts? I've been looking for more to listen to as they help pass the time while painting.
>>86799013I don't have any so I'll gladly take your recommendations.
>>86798558The rules are literally on one page, just read them.
>>86799268>current year>having the ability to read one whole page
>>86798558Check to see if someone made a series of Tik Tok videos explaining them. Seems to be more your speed.
My friend is getting me in to Malifaux and he's gotten me a Colette core box for my birthday. I was thinking of just getting the 2 other performers boxes during their black friday event, is that the right way to go or should I perhaps pick up a different box of units to add to my crew?
>>86793282Do people post about marvel crisis protocol here or in a different thread? I got into it recently and wanted to see how prevalent proxies were in the game. There's a lot better looking models I can get printed out there than the official ones. Just wanted to see how frowned upon it is to see if there's any pitfalls I can avoid.
>>86798558Sorry for off topic but damn modern gw art manages to be entirely lifeless and stale with an iconic last stand. Even the 3rd ed space marine codex homage was better than that piece. I usually don't complain newthingbad but damn that one got me.
>>86798558It's very streamlined, the models have only two stats, quality and defence. These are supplemented by universal special rules. The game has alternating actions. The advanced rules have extra actions, command points and optional rules like random activation (basically the players put colored tokens in a bag and draw them to decide who gets to activate next. It's a simple and fun game, probably a breath of fresh air after 9th edition bloat. But it might be lacking compared to other /awg/ due to the very simplistic design philosophy which does not allow for much granularity.
>>86801333I think that's the way to do it, fill out the keyword first before branching out. You might want to pick a beater like Howard Langston at some point.
>>86798204If you mean me, that Warzone II starter box is one of my favourite bits of backlog. I know that it's Christmas, but I'm not letting that go for anything but Goldfish Blue money. Sorry anon. Scrooge.
>>86797945Already bought some. Some Guild for Malifaux. Some MESBG chars. Coupla puzzly board games for the missus and I. Warhammer Quest, for the bat and spiders - I'll flip the rest. And a Panzer IV for best team.
>>86798792>>86798836They’re called K-trucks in grorious nippon so poke-truck fits.
When is northstar releasing the elf heavy infantry kit?
>>86803861Heavy elf star infantry when, North?
>>86801429Yeah sometimes we discuss it but /awg/ doesn't really play alot of MCP.It is 1) kinda expensive and 2) not model agnostic. But I do know a fair bit of the game and am willing to discuss it.Regarding the proxy, People usually permit it. For friendly game it is very easy to tell people. As there isn't really a lot of official Tournament, the option can change variable.Of my three tournament we had alternative allowed but no proxying. So as long as you could see that it is the same character (So alternative femdoc Oc for doc oc) it was okay but not other characters. Also the bases had to be correct. But it very much had to be okay with your opponent, I had the original figures with me but didn't have to field them.Print to play cards were always allowed, no one gave a shit.
>>86803938It also helps if the local scenes know you.
Anyone been beta-testing Perilous Tales? Just been reading through the free rules and they sound like a lot of fun, and better, perfect for some stuff I've got lying around.
>>86803994I did for a while, I felt that the Peril escalation was waaay too predictable and lethal for something that's supposed to be an adjunct to the core mission objective. I haven't downloaded the most recent playtest packet though
>>86802881If you're the german guy from last thread, forget about it. I just misunderstood you about possibly wanting to sell those, if that's not on the table anyway forget about it.
>>86805670He is not, because thats me.
Anyone seen the Mantic Terrain Kickstarter?I'm kinda tempted, but how is the quality of that terrain? Never bought any of it, so i'm curious. Is it that typical "rubbery" plastic from boardgames? Or actual hard plastic like Frostgrave minis for example?
>>86806866I've gotten a bunch of terrsin from them. Both from Mars attacks Kickstarter and their terrain crate stuff. I like it a lot. You get quite a bit for the price. I don't know if it's worth it over just 3D printing if you got a printer. It's hard plastic, at least the stuff I've gotten.
>>86806231Well, would you be willing to sell those sprues and if so, what's the rough ballpark for your price? I'm assuming ~15 bucks for shipping on top of that. Historically, the German post is expensive as fuck for no reason.
>>86801429>>86803938>>86803943Yeah, there's some very nice 3d prints on Etsy for MCP. This Abnett era Starlord for instance is £7.
>>86802847>>86801333There was a pretty interesting discussion about this on the Malifaux World Series discord today - in most cases, after you have most of the keyword, it makes mroe sense to get models to cover your weaknesses, rather than complete teh Keyword.Reason for that, and Colette's Performers illustrate this nicely, is that you'll find that the complete Keyword allows you to excel at the objective sets you are good at, but get absolutely rectum'd in the scenarios you are bad at.Performer are incredible mobile interacters, but if you have to camp on an objective and defend it, your girls will die in droves.I'd definitely pick up the Coryphee box, as they are core to how Performer can do damage.Center Stage - Carlos, Angelica and the Ice Dancers - is arguably less important. Having said that, Carlos is the closest thing the Keyword has to a character able to take a punch. What I'd recommend is grabbing another Arcanist Master that appeals to your sensibilities - they'll come with a Henchman and Minions that can play with Colette too, albeit slightly sub-optimally, but will probably bring something different (damage output, tankiness, guns etc.) to your collection.
>>86793946Put your ego aside, Anon, no-one wants that for a Christmas present.
>>86808476No footwear? Pious, but just asking to be crippled by something sharp slashing the soles or cutting off toes. Love the scheme though, your skill is amazing, Anon.
>>86807214Yeah, I am getting this one.>>86797945Knight model. It is my guilty pleasure
>>86808605He believes that faith alone is sufficient defence for the sole.
>>86807189>the German post is expensive as fuck for no reason.Reliability is reason enough. Where are you from Anon?I'd say we discuss this via email. If money is tight for you, no need to rush anything. Those spures wont go anywhere any time soon, and my backlog is full enough that i wont paint them by accident or boredom either.
>>86808789Not that anon, but I recently got a buttload of extra second edition dudes for a steal on Ebay because the box they came in was the French version.
>>86808768Hah! You clever bastard.
>>86807706I think I'd pretty much always recommend just getting what you think looks cool in Malifaux. If you're not playing competitively, it won't matter what you pick. If you are playing competitively, Malifaux is complex to the point that having mastery of a sub optimal crew is usually better than playing a more optimal crew you're less familiar with.
>>86808837Nice. French ebay is sometimes a great source, simply because of the smaller userbase
>>86808919The furthest afield that I've bought from was Italy. I'll never understand why Mutant Chronicles and Doomtrooper where so popular there.
>>86803938Not him, but thanks anon. Those sound like super reasonable guidelines for alt models. I definitely want to give Abnett era Starlord a print.
>>86793282how different are the playstyles of Frostgrave magic schools? I can't find any information about them outside of the 1e pdf description. I know I could probably play the game and find out, or just go with what's inspiring to me, but I think so many of the wizard schools are interesting. Looking for anything to provide an edge to my decision making.
>>86808897Broadly yes, but there are some parts of the game that, for some keywords, the base crew can't hang with.I think adding a tank to a Colette crew or a sprinter to some Guild crews can make the game far more enjoyable and easier to learn than just flailing helplessly in scenarios your keyword defaults aren't intended for.>I think I'd pretty much always recommend just getting what you think looks coolObjecting to that would obviously be foolish though.
>>86809587School-mixing means it's not as broad a spread as you think. You can basically splash out and grab your utility spells from an allied school (with limited exceptions) and still have a similar build. Spells basically break down into trolling your opponent, getting free gear, terrain manipulation, buffs, debuffs, ranged attacks, and bonus party members. The big difference is what >kind< of spells you get to play with in the broader categories. For example, Sigilites can't dependably cast Summoning spells or use Necromancy/Witch stuff to get free party members and potions, but they get extremely good environmental manipulation spells, buffs, trolling, and free Scrolls, plus easy access to a temp summon or more trolling from Illusionist and access to Enchanter's Constructs/buffs and Thaumaturges' free healing and nasty anti-Incorporeal tools.None of the schools really >gimp< you, although Chronomancer and Illusionist are very hard to use well. Illusionist in particular goes in hard on "troll" spells that exist mostly to piss off your opponent rather than give you a better chance of winning the game. >good stuff"Allied" access to Witch gives you easy access to free potions, which is incredibly useful. Enchanters can make free, permanent magic weapons, but this takes two spells and has a very high casting number. Unless you're playing an Enchanter it's very hard to take advantage of it. Sigilites get a spell for free Scrolls, but Bridge and Draining/Power Word are vastly more useful.Ranged attacks are heavily nerfed, with a 24" max range on almost all spells and the one unlimited-range one being on the Witch >and< counted as a normal rather than magic attack. Animal Companion or Brew Potion are much more useful, so it's basically non-existent.Summoner and Necromancer can call up extra party members, which is insanely useful. Enchanter and Witch both have special types of party member that take up a slot and have their own buff trees
>>86809587>>86810171Back from my errand. So what does each class do uniquely?>ChronomancerBad spells that ruin your action economy, a couple of decent ones for removing terrain and enemy weapons, and a powerful Stun debuff.>ElementalistWRECK SHIT on pretty much anything in range, and the unspeakably irritating Wall spell. >EnchanterConstructs, buffs, and oddly a telekinesis spell that makes getting treasure much easier. They can get both one of the weapon/armor enchantments and the spell to make it permanent without having to rely on RNG like other classes. Wasting all three of your school slots on armor, weapons, and permanence is a >very< bad idea though.>Illusionist:TROLOLOLOLOLOLLOL. Glow is one of the few spells to make ranged combat Specialists not just viable but lethal.>NecromancerSummon irritating monsters and get outnumbering bonuses. Strike Dead is not as good as you think it is. Spell Eater is much, much better than it looks.>SigiliteMake it easier to cast their own spells and harder for opponents to cast theirs. Bridge and push are both very good. Can use Tattoo magic from "Forgotten Pacts" to get multiple useful buffs.>SoothsayerDecent buffs, Mind Control, and some dangerous combo/counterspells for other schools. Can also manipulate treasure rolls>SummonerRisky spells for buffing, good movement spells, is the only School that starts out able to summon anything better than an Imp or Minor Demon. Forgotten Pacts gives them a bonus type of party member and more variety on summons>ThaumaturgeHealing and good spells for clearing out pesky Undead/Demons without dedicating Specialist slots to them. Can also delete all persistent enemy spells. Including Bridge, Mud, Fog, and Wall, some of the most annoying spells in the game.>WitchGood all-rounder skills. Familiar is worthless. Fog, Mud, Brew Potion, and Animal Companion are some of the best spells in the game. The other two are situationally useful.
>>86803938That sounds like what I'd expected. I'm not planning on much, just trading out some existing heroes for spider based alts. Agent venom in place of the punisher, etc.
>>86807706That’s an interesting idea, and it at least lets me have 2 leaders to play with straight up. How are some of Kaeris’ units and would they do with the performers? I was kinda interested in her and it gives me an excuse to pick up the genderbent carlos
>>86808763Am I the only one who doesn't like slutty Harley? Her OG jester outfit will always be the best.
>>86813814No, "vaguely Clown themed whore" Harley has been divisive since Arkham Asylum shat her into the world. When DC did the New52 and redesigned her into the roller derbyish look it was not popular with many comic fans.
>>86813830Honestly, my least favourite was "Two tone Black and off-red Hair" Slutty Harley. Although Margot Robbie Harley is fucking up there. But a lot of that is down to what they did to Cassandra Cain in that fucking insult of a movie.
>>86814739I have nothing but respect for Gail Simone for not picking up a Shotgun and start gunning down WB executives after that film. Jesus fucking christ.
>>86814984>I have nothing but respect for Gail SimoneGail Simone is an evil cunt that gleefully destroyed the comic book industry. She is a shit writer.
>>86813830Here is Roller Derpy Harley.>>86813814I also prefer classic>>86815072Fuck off she had good runs.Gail Simone is one of the better writer for DC until 2011.Unlike some writer she doesn't force Harley everywhere.Though I do have to say; Gail is not the best female writer by far, Dixon is better but atleast Gail tried to respect character unlike other shiiters (Bendis top here, but there is too many to count). For me she is a great writer because she saved Catman and Bane from dying as one note character and fucking tried to wrestle Deadshot away from Harley. In conclusion:Shit twitter account, read Secret Six
>check hasslefrees website>no info on any black friday sales>check their dwarves>pack of 7 norse dwarves is out of stock>they are all avaiable separetely thoughWhat the fuck are they even doing.
>>86815324Also there are 6 harley now, while there are 8 Jokers (counting the 3 jokers as one each).Batman still wins with 14.In eternals 10 Harley, 11 jokersBut how many Tim Drake? 1. And he is not even Robin, he is Red Robin.Atleast he is not Stephen or Cass.
>>86811557>the unspeakably irritating Wall spellWe had to house rule this in my group; 1 wall per caster. Brings it back to just useful.>Familiar is worthlessIt's not. Think of it as a 10+ to get a free +2 item of power at the beginning of a game (that ALSO buffers your caster's health a bit).
>>86815340they just ended their halloween sale on the 16th. It's their biggest sale each week, goes on for weeks and backlogs them for months. They're also running a Kickstarter right now. So considering that there is basically just one barely functional cripple running the show I guess they don't want to put too much on their plate.Someone more business savvy could have grown that company into something bigger by now, but they seem to be content to keep doing things the way they are, for better or worse. That's just part of dealing with a small business running on a skeleton crew I suppose.
>>86815440>boggedMore like Hoffed. Kek
Saw this article so I thought I'd remove their watermark and made a handy picture for skeleton sizes
>>86815360It's fucking criminal how we've never gotten a proper live action or cartoon Cass or Steph. I mean, both those characters are almost thirty years old now, you'd have thought they would have at least had some kind of minor cameo by now.FUCKING DAMIEN HAS HAD AN ENTIRE ANIMATED FILM CENTERED AROUND HIM AND HE'S A FUCKING ANNOYING LITTLE SHIT.
Anybody here happen to have gotten soft resin models? The type of resin that behaves a bit like a soft plastic model?I got a model thats supposed to be resin but its really soft and can't support the weight of the parts connected to it, and UV curing it doesn't seem to help one bit.
>>86816251Refund or pin in a skeleton of sorts, load bearing structure made out of wire or whatever.
>>86816251Assuming you're not talking about the PVC that Bones, etc are made of? Sounds like the caster didn't add enough catalyst to harden the resin properly. Get a refund.
As a game, how is Frostgrave / Ghost Archipelago? The miniatures look awesome and theyre quite cheap, so I'm definitely getting some, but is it a fun game too? Worth making a couple funky warbands?
>>86817108It depends. Its fun, but most of its fun comes from playing a campaign with friends, and not just playing random pickup games with random people. However, if your friends are the WAAC type, the game can easily become unbalanced and snowballing during the campaigns can and will happen, especially if some players are willing to play cheese warbands, and others are not.
>tranny shitEpic. Exactly what I wanted.

>>86818667you don't have to be a coomer - or a biologist - to tell the difference between a man and a woman. The design has both broad shoulders and wide hips, while hiding the face. Chest and groin are covered by armor. No idea if this was intentional, but they really made it hard to tell what is going on there. The art is just not very convincing. If you adjust the proportions a tiny bit you can get this to read a lot better
>>86818913>>86817309I think I could dig the chastity angle. Like naughty bits literally put behind a steel cage to prevent impurity. Would be nice if they were clearly gendered though.

But calling it "tranny" says to me you expect your female models to be sexy, which is both a covered niche and something that always strikes me as a bizarre desire for something an inch tall that you'll also need to paint.

The guys in the pdf thread told you might know if there are any good solo wargame system for more or less modern setting to play high speed low drag meme encounters without minis? Finding miniatures of modern SOF, bad guys, anorexic african boys with aks and Kyle Rittenhouse is a pain in the ass. Btw is Lock n Load a good system to do it?
>>86819605>good>solo wargame system>more or less modern setting>high speed low drag meme encounters>without minisThis is the most bizarre hyper niche question I've ever heard.
>>86819685especially since getting minis for:>modern SOF, bad guys, anorexic african boys with aks and Kyle RittenhouseIs pretty damn easy .
>>86819859Well, not so much specifically Kyle Rittenhouse, but there are certainly options for "suburban white kid with guns"
>>86819353>But calling it "tranny" says to me you expect your female models to be sexyI didn't call it that, but I can't think of a reason you wouldn't want them to be nice to look at. My friend is looking for miniatures of more realistic astronauts. Any recommendations?
>>86820435>>86817108Short version: The games are best when you have at least three, preferably more like five, warbands slugging it out. It adds a lot of variety to games and you can't afford to overspecialize to take each other out the way you can in a 2-player campaign. They need a LOT of terrain on the table.I recommend getting at least one campaign book as well as the main rulebook, and DEFINITELY buy the second edition. It cleans up a lot of the exploits and bullshit in 1e, which had multiple patches over the years. Out of the scenario books, "Forgotten Pacts" and "Thaw of the Lich Lord" are the most useful. Both add interesting soldier types, a decent campaign, and moderate buffs/playstyle changes to your warbands. "Into the Breeding Pits" adds in dungeon fight rules and a way to run Beastman/fleshcrafter warbands. A lot of "Frostgrave Folio" and "Maze of Malcor"'s content has been superseded or severely nerfed by later books, although "Hunt for the Golem" in it gives some more options for a Construct-heavy Enchanter warband. The other big thing to keep in mind is that Frostgrave uses a lot of wandering monsters. While you don't have to fill out the whole checkbox in the back, you definitely want a mix of Undead, demons/angels, animals, Constructs (I paint up busted minis as statues), a werewolf/vampire or two, and beastmen/orcs/bandits plus a couple bigger monsters like trolls or giants.>Ghost ArchipelagoIs a much, much more brutal game. It may not look like it on the surface but the rules changes make recovering from a really bad game very hard. You have to use your team effectively and preserve your Specialists or you're going to be hurting bad down the line. It also has a very strong Sinbad/Harryhausen vibe rather than Pirates of the Carribean (because the author has a pathological hatred of guns for some reason). So you wind up running around twatting dinosaurs with Greek hoplites and Barbary Corsairs and getting slaughtered by Howler monkeys.
>>86820891There was a game sometime this spring that had a bunch of cold war astronauts in it. I know GMG did a short feature series, but I can't rememebr the name.
>>86793282I'm sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I don't know where else to ask. Can someone help me identify this miniature. My dad used it when he played tabletop games in college in the 80s. It used to have a sword or axe or something in its hand, but it broke off long ago. I wanted to get him a "complete" version for his birthday next month. I have no idea what game system it belongs to, but I think it might be a Citadel brand.

>>86815843wow Wargames Atlantic are gigantic
Does anyone happen to have a size comparison of Oathmark orcs with other miniatures? I'd be curious to see them next to Warhammer orcs in particular, but pretty much any comparison at all could help me.
>>86821044Thanks for this info, I think I'll continue on with the Frostgrave/Ghost archipalego game(s) to introduce family and friends too. We all like playing together so a game that plays better with more people is definitely appealing, and the idea that Ghost Archipalego is more brutal is definitely enticing - and the minis are fucking awesome
>>86825159>and the minis are fucking awesomeYeah and it is mini agnostic too so you can use whatever you want and already have.

I'm mad about Osprey's new web store. They don't let you redeem your old pdf purchases anymore, and the place where they told you this would be coming was 2 clicks deep into a routine newsletter. I sent an email and got a response "lol sucks to be you" dressed up as politely as they could. Let this be a reminder that this is all you deserve if you buy pdfs. Also they switched to screen formatted digital releases as a fuck you to people who print their own copies.

Ok I did one a bit more Gaslands. Still need to do a typical rusty, spiky Mad Max one because that didn't really happen here. Zuru Metal Machines unknown car.
>>86830300The nice thing about Gaslands is that basically any sort of combat car theme works since it's all for entertainment purposes and some of the sponsors are high tech, sleek racers who'd rather their cars not be shitboxes. You can do anything from grubby road bandits who got all their stuff from a landfill next to a scrap yard and survive by ambushing traveling Gaslands teams, to hovercars fresh off the Martian assembly line and sent to the gaslands tournament for promotional purposes along with a portable body shop to repair all damage and keep them dent free and shiny.

I haven't played a wargame since AT-43 died. Is there anything remotely similar to fill the void? Excluding anything GW, of course.

>>86793282>got into the hobby via painting from my buddy>bought some GW stuff to paint>bought a 3d printer to not pay retarded prices>want to finally play an actual gamecomplete newfag to war gaming so I'm taking any and all recommendations. I have 1 buddy who's down to play w/e. SciFi/fantasy doesn't matter. miniature agnostic is a plus so I can print but isn't a hard set rule. don't want games that require books for each faction (eg. GW games for the most part). preliminary research (YT Battle Reports) has pointed me towards Frost/Stargrave, OPR, Song of Ice and Fire, Reign in Hell, Infinity, Gaslands, Kings of War. Watching ppl play is one thing, doing it is another so here I am asking you wonderful anons
Finished putting together a 700 point Gondor army. Cant wait to get it painted. I forgot how good mesbg is.
>>86832970Those are all solid rulesets and decent to get a hold of, it really depends what game and setting you want to play at that point. Infinity for example is vastly different from Kings of War. You'll probably end up playing all of them eventually anyway if you get into it.
>>86832075That's rich coming from someone who makes shit up on the internet because game someone's game doesn't have EXACTLY what he wanted in the core rulebook and he can't deal with it.Kill yourself, negroid.
>>86832970If the 3d printer goes brrrr, Xgrave is a pretty good choice. They're mini agnostic, but need a lot of random monsters and set pieces for different scenarios. It's one thing if you're an RPG player and have a bunch of random stuff lying around already and can substitute orcs for gnolls or whatever, but getting into it raw can be rough if you don't want to use bottlecaps and chess pieces as substitutes for random models you'll only ever use once.
>>86832970I'll never to any of the grave games. They're d20 garbage
>>86832970You need to actually make some decisions about what you want to play because we can't do that for you.>fantasy / sci-fi / historical>engagement scale (skirmish / platoon / regiment / whatever)>crunch (simple, fast rules or complex, involved ones)>fluff (established setting or make your own)
>>86832970Get Rangers of Shadowdeep, cooperative, chill, narrative fun game.Upgrade to agnostic skirmish games, I recommend frostgrave/stargrave, fantasy/sci-fi respectively. When you have a basic grip of wargaming concepts try the OPR stuff, it's free and ranges from skirmish to larger battles to rank and file games, to see what scale you like best.Branch out to proper rulesets from there in the desired scale. Kings of war (RNF), Kings of war Vanguard (Skirmish), Infinity (SF Skirmish), Erehwon (skmirsh), Oathmark (RNF).Or ask more specific questions when you know more of what you want.
>>86834674Forgot, if you like cars to go VROOOOM check out gaslands.
>>86830300Yeah, it's basically impossible to go wrong with that look.
Are there any wargames having Deep One-like things in?
>>86838260Yeah, there are a lot of games that dip into the Cthullu mythos.Achtung Chtullu being an obvious example, but there are also games like Dracula's America that have cultist factions that allude to it. Deep Wars from Antimatter games also has some ties to those themes. If you just want miniatures there are a lot more options than games that explicitly feature them as a faction, because they are also a stable in a lot of RPG games. Reaper or Crooked Dice for example have miniatures for cultists and fishpeople.
>>86808789Alright then, drop me a mail at >firstname.lastname@example.orgIf you want to work something out
>>86838260Yes. A lot of them.Dracula's America adds a Dagonite faction in the third book.7TV has a Lovecraft moduleBlack Sun is Mythos: Vietnam Nam edition.
>>86838260Carnevale has pretty much a Deep Ones faction

I picked up the Skorne Black Friday bundle since my playgroup is starting to rebuild after the Mk4 launch, but I have no clue what I'm going to get more mileage out of when it comes to the Titan and the Praetorian dual-kit. Which variant should I build this first Titan as, and are Swordsman or Keltari preferred in Mk4? I have all three of the current Prime warlocks to pair them with.
>>86835421You should but a bit of weathering on that decal, but otherwise the Black on Black is a foolproof design.
Did dreadball get worse and fail since 2012?The first edition is obviously speedball merged with fantasy like bloodbowl but now it just looks like a mess. The big lady elf team looks good but that's about it. I feel like the game should try to reboot itself or someone should please make a just human vs alien NOT fantasy speedball
>>86838260Very genuinely honestly confused no one said night stalkers from Kings of war. Just replace scarecrow dudes and the rest if the army is perfect
>>86844487Huh actually all of the teams that aren't the rats and orcs are unique and really fucking cool. They should reboot the game with the same models and push it again. Looks sick.
>>86842791The sentry is always a solid pick for Titans. It gives you a piece that you can sit somewhere and make it hard to dislodge with little need for help in doing so. And Paingivers make it hit hit hard enough that the drop in melee power from the gladiator isn't as big of a deal. The lack of Rush hurts, though, and the glad is better if you're playing into a jack/beast heavy list. You can always split the box and make a unit of each for the Swordsmen and the Keltarii. I personally lean more towards the Swordsmen, since they hit harder and the CA make them so much better, but you can do some fun stuff with the new unit movement rules and the Keltarii. I just wish they hit a little harder.
>>86844487>>86844520Don't need another sports game now we have Takkure.

>>86802817I never get the logic of cutting down stats = streamlining the game.Cutting out *useless* stats, sure, but by reducing it to merely two, you're only offloading the complexity into special rules instead, which is actually worse. I think the sweet spot for medium complexity is 4 to 7, depending on genre.
Lads, what would you do to this car to make it Gaslands? It's a KITT from Knight Rider concept car and it looks so smart as it is.All I was thinking was adding a small missile pod, like two small rounded yellow missiles with a black cover over them. Or something. No plates or guns
>>86845427Dunno. I put a flamer turret and nitro canisters on a similiar car. Mind you its not painted yet and I dont get that mad max aesthetic so I make my cars look like something from shitty old game such as>autobahn racer

>>86846108The miniatures are excellent, I've only played one game so far in addition to the rules exercises in the book but it's pretty fun. I'd say the biggest limitation is that you only get 4 players per team per game, so the tactical options are limited, but within that paradigm it's quite fun. I personally like that since I only wanted a small sidegame for my sports game.
>>86849453I figured it was just going to be a 2023 exclusive, but the Shaltari showing up in the back has me thinking it'll be something more substantive than that if there's more models being teased.

>>86793282probably not the best place to ask but I didn't see a QTDDTOT thread up. I'm looking for a solitaire wargame/board game (since i'm giving up video games, I need something to take up my time) preferably for beginners or at least with a rule set that can be modified to be simpler or more complex, but don't worry too much about it.Just general things I'm interested in:Fleet Combat (mainly Starfleet combat, but I can do historical fleets as well, I prefer age of sail over modern, must have a boarding mechanic because I'm autistic)Ancient Rome or just Antiquity warfare.Civil War (less interested than the other 2)I'm okay with chits or minis, but I would prefer cheaper and smaller minis due to space and having everything come in 1 box is a huge bonus. If this derails the thread or is a low quality post, feel free to ignore it.
>>86853981>solitaire>fleet action>simple/chits a plusYou might want to check out A Billion Suns. it's got okay AI rules and works well with paper minis. You can't exactly buy a starter box but it's a cheap book and chits are easy to make.>boarding mechanicsDon't remember if it has them, sadly. And there aren't any other solitaire fleet combat rules I'm aware of.>antiquityRangers of Shadow Deep is technically a Dark Ages, low-fantasy game. That said you could easily run it with Ancients models. Robust solo rules, lots of modules, and if you run it with the old "swap inches for cm" hack you can use 15mm or 20mm models for it easily. Your animal NPCs is a matter of getting a tube of plastic critters from China, and a sampler box of cheap orcs and skeletons from almost any of the 15mm or plastic 20mm companies is a few bucks. With either of those two some quick-and-dirty papercraft terrain will be very easy to find, and a lot of that can fold up flat for storage. You could also try out Brutality. It's meant to be the MOST minis-agnostic game, something where you literally grab six random minis out of a box and build a force with them. Rules themselves don't care whether your missile attack is a sling or an assault rifle, just that you have one. So it's easy to make an Ancients force for it and just refluff a couple things. AI is pretty solid, force building is easy, system is simple and pretty decisive. Background is basic-bitch teenage edgelord crap that actually works for Romans doing Roman Shit. Again, the inches-to-cm with 15mm models hack will work fine here.
>>86847693I completely forgot but crucible from warmachine is perfect
>>86853981Look into the COIN series from GMT. All sides have an AI chart, and since you're after Antiquity, there's at least one themed on Caesar's conquest of Gaul.
>>86853034Based on the leg the Rhino is pretty set.I am hoping for a big release, so three boxes.>1. Box: Doc and ElectroAlternative leader: Doc Ock, 4 threat. Something where he can reroll a dice for a friendly and mostly disruption.Electro with 2 threat. Similar to Iron Fist he wants to charge. Primarly Damage dealer>2. Box: Rhino, big box: 3 PointsLarge move, lots of disruption and pushes. Can not carry Secure.>3. Box: Vulture and SandmanBoth 3 points. Vulture is basically Falcon with an enemy carry. Sandman should be a damage dealer.

Played OPR scifi skirmish again. Really starting to become a favorite. I was initially skeptical that the simplified statlines would make combat too bland, but it is streamlined and special rules and modifiers for armies make things feel good. The only weirdness I’ve found so far is in taking veteran quality space marines, they have better combat skills than my marine officers who have no options to upgrade their quality.

Sup /awg/. I'm writing up a skirmish game; this is a summary of the rules. I plan to upload the full rulebook when it will be done, so let me know if anyone is interested (I expect it will be in the 6-10 pages range).>Working title 'Chronicles Unsung Fantasy Skirmish'>Skirmish game for warbands around 10-16 models; d8-based.>Low magic, dark ages fantasy setting.>Alternated activations: players take turns activating up to three models at a time, until all models have been activated. Each model acts and moves independently.>During its activation, a model may move and/or shoot; if they are in base contact with an enemy at any point during their activation, a bout of melee combat takes place during that same activation. When a bout of combat takes place, both the activating model/s and their enemies get to attack; meaning that the same models may fight multiple times in the same round (although with increasing penalties). >Melee and ranged attacks require a roll to hit (attack roll / shooting roll) and then, if a hit is scored, a wounding roll. >These rolls have degree of success: a roll to hit may produce a miss, a glancing hit, a full hit, or a critical hit; a wounding roll may have no effect, or bruise the target, or wound them. >Situational bonuses and penalties are handled through bonus dice and penalty dice, that add dice to the roll but require to discard the worst or best results respectively. >Conversely, equipment may bring static bonuses; for example, great weapon add to the strength of attacks, whereas armour adds to the wearer's toughness. (Cont.)
>>86864550>The game has a morale / panic system, where models may accumulate Panic points over the course of the game. At the end of each round, models with any panic on them must pass a Morale check whose outcomes range from clearing all panic, to gaining more panic, to fleeing. >A fleeing model immediately moves away, and will have to try and rally on their next activation; if they fail to rally, they are removed from the game, otherwise they just lose the current activation. >Panic is assigned when nearby models are slain or flee the battlefield, or from the proximity of terrifying enemies, or from the loss of their leader. >Characters are capable of bolstering the morale of nearby allies within their command range, lending them their own Courage score. >In addition, characters have a reserve of 'heroic resources' – Valour, Authority, and Favour – that they can spend during the battle. These serve respectively to improve their own rolls, bolster the rolls of allies under command range, and reduce enemy rolls against themselves. >Some character are capable of conjuring spells, which require the expense of their limited supply of Sorcery points. These points may also be spent to combat enemy spells. >Warbands are assembled from armylists with a budget of points. >Each warband must have at least one character. In addition, some models may have a Rarity score; for example, the strongest elite infantry and cavalry may have Rarity 1, whereas the biggest monsters like trolls have Rarity 4.>The maximum Rarity in your warband can't exceed a threshold based on the points limit. For example, the standard warband size would be 250 points, with a Rarity limit of 5. >Planned armylists are: Realms of men, Barbarians, Dwarves, Elven courts, Orcs, Goblins, Undead, Lizardmen.
>>86864553Also a couple of WIP armylists
>>86864550Got as far as D8. Not to shit on your creativity, but D8 is awkward. Use D10 or D12 if you require more granularity, or D6 if you don't.
>>86864577I started off with d6, then d10s, and then playtesting led me to d8s. D6 doesn't have enough granularity but d10 is in an awkward spot where having a +1 bonus isn't incisive enough for my needs but a +2 is too much. D8 is serving me much better.
Why did mantic stop basic their kings of war armies individually? I quite like how multibasing looks but as a warhammer fantasy analog the single bases looks way better. It feels odd to see to me.Is it overconfidence, setting itself apart from wfb? We will see how that goes I guess.
>>86864895I think it's a consequence of them dropping casualty removal. If you aren't using models as wound counters, there's less imperative to make them single based, and fewer bases makes thems easier to move around.
Speaking of kings of war I want to start an undead army. Should I start with a skeleton Horde?I want mostly skeletons like an ancient army raised again. So I was thinking skeleton Horde, revenant regiment and revenant cavalry to as the basis of the army but I don't know if that's any good or anything.Took me ages to work out revenant vs skeletons
I'm looking for a small plane game I could use to represent the interceptor segments of X-com. I'm trying to put together an x-com like game and I've decided that it would be easier to just add on another ruleset for the interceptors rather than trying to find a system that can accommodate everything. I'm not looking for anything too complex, just something so that 3-5 players would have a bit of a challenge trying to shoot down the different UFO's
>>86864550>>86864553Sounds perfectly serviceable. 10-16 is an interesting model count range I don't see as much so that's cool. Panic tokens might get fiddly to track on the board, would have to see it in operation. No personal problem with D8, people might find it awkward though. Campaign system planned?
>>86865327Thank you anon. You may be right about panic, that's something I haven't yet tested much in this version of the game (I was working on a mass battles versions first, and panic worked fine there, but admittedly you had to track 4-6 units on the field instead of 12+ individual models). I'll see how it plays out on future tests, if necessary I may just swap it for a general 'test for the whole warband' thing.I do plan to have a campaign progression system, with charts for experience, recruitment, loot and non-combat followers. I'm still deciding on how experience should work for the basic warriors, but what I have in mind at the moment is just the possibility for them to upgrade to a more elite warrior type with experience, rather than being able to gain any random bonus and become their own customized profile. Characters, on the other hand, will be able to get anything from extra heroic resources to stat bonuses to new special rules.
>>86862232>>86864504Either of you played Gang War by any chance?
>>86865220Crimson Skies (or Blood Red Skies maybe?), X-Wing, Wings of Glory, Bag The Hun.Can't vouch for any of them, but those are the ones I know of.
Does anyone know where I could get some chunky oldhammer-esque Chaos Warrior types?
>>86866775Knightmare like the other guy saysGrenadier too, so em4, Forlorn Hope, Mirliton
>>86866775Ral partha have a couple
>>86866775Oh, and Diehard.
>>86866787>>86866806>>86866810>>86866818Thanks anons! I'll check them out.
>>86865053>If you aren't using models as wound counters, there's less imperative to make them single basedI thought the advantage of single basing was that you could change formation on the fly.
>>86867229I don't think KoW has different formations.
>>86867229Which practically never happened in wfb.
Anyone tried Silver Bayonet? It looks like a Victorian-ish take on Mordheim, which as a concept looks appealing.
>>868672756e allowed you to widen your front and surround the enemy if you won combat
Yay Black Friday sales. Got all this for about $80USD.
>>86867261Can you base your 40 minis 20x2 rows or 10x4 to have wide or deep formations? That would change the way you position and how flankable you are
>>86869372No, there's fixed footprints
>>86869372>20 men wide rowthat sounds like a fucking nightmare. Or WHFB 8e, which is about the same thing.
>>86873627Or like typical dwarven gunline if you add like eleven cannons.WFB was a genuinely bad game.
>>86873627For chaff it would be a good blocker unit that crumbles quickly
>>8687408330+ men units are already an abomination, let alone using them as a 20'' wide screen that takes up a third of the fucking table.
>>8687411515 inches. It's sorta realistic no? You would do it with a gunline or chaff maybe
>>86864550>>86864553>>86864564Sounds really interesting and in line with the kind of model count and setting I've wanted a game for. I've been collecting random minis and making small warbands with no game in mind so this could fit. I'd be happy to look at the full ruleset and rope someone in to play test.
>>86864550>>86864553Sell me on your system. What does it do that 10 other generic skirmishers don't?
Anyone have the full rulebooks for the OPR games ? specifically the age of fantasy skirmish
Xenos Rampant is getting extremely good reviews, but I feel it's a little bigger of a game than I really want to play. Most of the lists seem to have 30-40 models.
>>86875361Do they mention how different it is from Lion/Dragon Rampant?
>>86875361Does the activation system work like Lion/Dragon Rampant?
>>86865147Skeleton hordes are nice as they unlock things cheaply. I actually like revenant cav as regiments better. They are great screening units and fast units for getting to objectives in raze and the like.
>>86875789*as troops better
>>86865763>panicMight be able to have the warband broken down into a few squads, so each group of 2-6 had a leader, lt, yeller, whatever, and attach the panic tokens to them as a way of measuring how much control over their group they have. Might make it more manageable but still let you use the mechanics. Keep panic tokens for models that break off individually but its harder for them. Depending on how you want to write it you could have bits for moving the tokens around or effecting them/them having different effects on different unit types. >I do plan to have a campaign progression system, with charts for experience, recruitment, loot and non-combat followers. This seems like it will be key to the game, unless you go more into the panic/morale tokens. Both could be cool and make it stand out a bit.
>>86874224Thank you! I'll be sure to post progress in future /awg/ threads.>>86874308Honestly I'm not ready to answer that at the moment, I just like writing games even if they don't end up standing out that much. I think it's gonna be a sort of middle ground between Mordheim and low-points MESBG, with a more granular wound system, combat maneuvers, alternating activations and an interruption system (although MESBG already has that too). >>86875821>Might be able to have the warband broken down into a few squads, so each group of 2-6 had a leader, lt, yeller, whateverThere is something like that now that you mention. The army may have characters but also up to one warrior promoted to standard bearer, one to musician, and one to either champion or guide. There isn't a hard squad system, but these 'leading' models have some importance in deployment and activation. I think I could go for a system where panic goes to the closest standing 'leading' model, and if they fail their panic check they must pick a model to flee that is closer to them than to any other leading model. This would also mean that losing leading models aggravates panic (since the more panic is on the same model, the harder it is to pass the check and to get rid of it).
>>86807706>if you have to camp on an objective and defend it, your girls will die in drovesWhat's good to add to a Colette crew if one wanted to do that?
>>86875731>>86875780If L/D Rampant uses a system where you roll to activate with required numbers differing depending on the specific unit and/or action, then yes it uses the same one.
>>86877098I'm more interested in what happens if you fail that roll, and on ways to influence it besides picking the unit's "favored" order.
>>86864550>>86876240>I think it's gonna be a sort of middle ground between Mordheim and low-points MESBG, with a more granular wound system, combat maneuvers, alternating activations and an interruption systemNTA but that's a pretty nice sell, if you can deliver. The D8 is a bit of a sore spot, but I'm looking forward to a complete-ish pdf.
Any Gaslands bros looking at that Steve Jackson Games Car Wars STL bits KS, or is that cheating that hurts to hobby appeal of Gaslands?
I actually like it
>>86877664Funny man wear rhino pajamas.
>>86876240I'm with >>86877197, I was thinking of basing a dark ages game on MESBG so this sounds right up my alley. For the record I'm good with d8s, doesn't make much difference for a skirmish game IMO as you're not going to need a bucket full of dice
>>86875108If you go back into the archive a few threads they're all there. They're also in the Sharethread archives. >>86877098Does it completely gutfuck your turn the instant you fail a roll with no recourse or way to gamble out of it?
>>86876945If there's a box with Joss and Howard Langston in it, maybe either of them.Honestly Carlos Vasquez isn't actually that bad at it, against mid-level killers anyway.I'm sure there are better suggestions out there though.
>>86877491I personally prefer painting resin over metal and am going all in as a result. 3D printable Gaslands commo have been surprisingly uncommon.
>>86877491The only thing I'd consider cheating is printing a whole car that's already mad max'd. Printing normal cars, printing components, that's all good. There's a whole market for parts. The implements of carnage sprue is a classic.
>>86877664He's a pretty big boy so may unfortunately be in a single box. I'm curious to see how good he'll be in Spider-Foes. If he's indeed a 3-threat baby-Juggernaut then he'll probably not be mobile, a beatstick and a tank - there'll have to be some compromise. Two tough objective squatters in him and Lizard would be delicious though even without affiliation synergy.
>>86878668I think those are the two big suggestions. Emissary gets suggested too. Silent Ones are common out of keyword pick as well. They can help with crew survivability with ranged healing.
>>86864594I made up a game similar in style using d6's. Works great, did about 5 playtests over the early dev period. Player's really liked how quick they could build armies and a couple custom characters per team.
>>86864594d8s are weird. Hey there want the easy access to d6 or the granularity of d10. D8 It's one of the things I don't like about Kings of War: Vanguard.
