It's rather unfortunate. I think Jackson did well with the first three movies, dumbed down the themes a little but was overall much more respectful than the animated films that came before and the adaptations we have had after. Yet the art I like best comes from the images that people get in their heads from reading the novels.
Same with any other , there's a frustrating lack of creativity in illustrators copying films instead of the original novels
>>
>>86828529
It's the same thing anytime anything gets a movie. Marvel has pretty much fully embraced the MCU look for a lot of it's shit. And that was already a visual medium.

This is legit why I don't know if I like movies. Novels and comics should be enjoyed in the format that they are
>>
>>86828623
Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about movies. They seem to stifle creativity to an extent. For example any time I look up Galadriel and Elrond art I see the faces of Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchet. No hate or anything for the actors, they did a good job, but I sincerely hope this isn't a trend, since they hired uglier and uglier actors each adaptation

The thing is, I feel like when there's not a single unified image it sort of adds to the mystery and legendary status of things. It feels more magical when we're told of great cities and towers, of deadly forests and caves of hobbits, dwarves and elves. I think the movies often do a good job of making things look real, but therein is also the conundrum.
>>
>>86828623
>Marvel has pretty much fully embraced the MCU look for a lot of it's shit
I would kinda disagree with this outside of Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy most of the currently published comics do their own thing aesthetically. it is hard to image MCU trying to do the Current X-men Status Quo or the recent Defenders run with the same visual aestitic
>>
>>86828736
I'm not gonna pretend like it never pendulums back and forth but I was there when the x-men all started wearing leather.
>>
>>86828753
no, I agree with you Marvel 100% used to push for brand consistency on a comic level to be like the films at least from a visual standpoint but current Marvel comics seems uninterested in that visual consistency anymore with a couple of notable exceptions
>>
>>86828735
Yeah; I like the variety myself. I don't agree with some depictions in the movie so I can find alternate depictions from artists who use personal imagination

I like this picture because it makes me think of a sitcom, where the monster comes home from a long day at work, tired because he didn't get the promotion, his big plans to wow the boss blew up in his face but then his TV hot wife shows up sits down on the throne next to him, gives him a kiss and the episode ends on a sweet note.

Morgoth is kind of fascinatingly pathetic.
Despite being one of the greatest Ainur he gets overshadowed by literally everyone else, even his shittiest creations will go on to plague future generations while he got locked in the Void.
I give credit to Iluvitar where it is due, he made himself the finest of controlled opposition. If Ungoliant had been the Ur-Evil she might have swallowed the entire world.
>>
>>86843336
>If Ungoliant had been the Ur-Evil she might have swallowed the entire world.
Interesting.
That's exactly what she would have done.
Eru needed something to 'arise in might' and whip her ass - fight the darkness, if only to possess (rather than destroy) the light of creation/reality.
The other vala didn't have it in them to face off against something like Ungoliant and stop her before she pulled some seriously irreparable shit. It took an evil to recognize and deal with an evil.
Darkness to fight darkness.
But it can be redeemed.
Interesting, anon...

Its just the universal rule of most fantasy, the bad guys look cooler.

The empire from star wars, Sauron/Morgoth, chaos from warhammer, the bad guys are always presented as this bigger and cooler evil to make the heroes more heroic when they triumph.

>It's more exciting when your heroes have to punch up not downwards.
This is perhaps the central problem with Warhammer 40k as a setting. The protagonists aren't heroes, but they're still protagonists, and they're made out to be superior, or at best equal, to the antagonists. A power-fantasy for the audience instead of punching up.
