What would be a good source of spikes?
>>
>>85541651
The Hellbrute is a weird kit. At the same time I hate the concept since they changed the iconic dreadnaught with a chaos twist into just an overgrown obliterator. However, I quite like the execution, since the kit is nice, good looking and has plenty of options.

Does this mean the Tau get auxiliaries?

>Alright, well, we're going to give more multi-damage weapons to everything!
>Alright, well, we're reducing the wounds you take from each weapon!
>Alright, well, we're making it so you can't reduce wounds taken!
>Alright, well, we're limiting how many wounds you can do in one turn!
>Alright, well, we're going to do more wounds regardless!
>Alright, well, we're getting more invulnerable saves!
>Alright, well, we're getting weapons that ignore invulnerable saves!
>ALRIGHT, WELL, WE'RE GETTING A SPECIAL SAVE THAT'S NOT AN INVULNERABLE SAVE AND CAN'T BE IGNORED!

I really hope 10e starts from 0 again. We're getting to 7e bloat.
>>
>>85541741
No, they won't be able to be taken in a tau army.
>>
>>85541766
Kind of impressive though since 7th edition mess took decades to create. I think strategems have massively contributed to the problems that 9th has, in addition to the strage decision to not have many USR. You know, maybe I should start writing the custom ruleset that I have been building in my head for a while.

>>
>talking about 10e when there are still armies without a codex for 9e
>space marine codex 2.0 isn't even out yet
>>
>>85541766
It went to shit when Games Workshop stopped treating the S3, T3, 1W Guardsman as the baseline.
It bloated itself by making the S4, T4, 2W Intercessor their baseline unit and balanced every other faction around that, which just fucked up the past 30 years of game design balance.
>>
>>85541859
>there are still armies
guard and chaos daemons are the only ones left, aren't they?
>>
>>85541799
I think the main issue with cp is that GW keeps taking half steps. I think if they went to 3cp + 1 per br for 1k and under, 3cp + 1 per turn for over 1k, that would be a pretty good solution save for just axing stratagems, which I don't think GW wants to do.

>>
>>85541891
I think if we go back to 3 simultaneous indexes, marines being t4 w2 can be fine. The issue is waiting years for a codex such a massive change gets made.
>>
>>85541896

I don't understand why a hard reset is unbelievable. There is so much rule bloat, supplements and errata that it's obviously the right choice. That being said, it's obviously GW's fault that it turned out like this.

I really love badly painted models. Take your pic, there are tens of thousands of figures that look like the bottom, boring, cookie-cutter. But only one Full Retard Space Marine like the top. He's got charm, he's got character, he is Subject to Stupidity. Quite seriously, I genuinely love that aspect of the hobby, the badly painted figures by 12 year olds with Testors, legendary
>>
Do auras affect units in open-topped transports? Can my Archon give reroll 1s to hit to Warriors that are sitting in a Raider? For that matter, is a unit's aura turned off when they embark?
>>
>>85542104
no.
yes.

Embarked units are not treated as being on the field, unless the rule/reroll SPECIFICALLY says otherwise.
>>
>>85542001
It's also a motivating factor since you really don't want this retard marine to kill your army

People don't understand that the Orkz are actually just an extension of the Eldar and as such effectively Tau auxiliaries.

How do the T'au always seem to be mercilessly spared from complete extinction? Because whenever forces are manifested to accomplish that task the Eldar begin running crippling raids and baiting Ork waaghs into the path of the forces. The entire "power" of the Eldar comes from their ability of precognition and being able to influence wider campaigns to serve their needs. Unfortunately this isn't possible to adequately represented in normal games of 40k.

While I fully believe that heat based axes are what Squats need, and I am glad they have them, Zeon isn’t even my favorite faction in Gundam. Rather, I just think Zeon has some of the better and most iconic demonstrations along with aesthetics that would suit power armor. On that note, Zakus aren’t even my favorite Zeon mobile suit.

Confessing further, I honestly think the UC timeline is too much of a attention hog, even for a “main” timeline. There’s AUs with quality content too that don’t receive a quarter of the attention UC does. It’s not as bad an attention sucking black hole as Space Marines are in 40k but it still leaves some disappointment. How many in this thread expected me to be a full UC fanboy?

I'm fully content with not having those, since I know if GW starts making a full range it also means they are gonna start fucking with the fluff of the Unification Wars and completely ruin it and make it shit.
But I wouldn't mind to see a re-release of the "armor throughout the ages", and all of them are properly scaled, would be pretty fun.

But currently, in my opinion best option to do is basically to use stormcasts, for the lightning bolts iconography and then use the primaris shins but shave off all the unnecessary bits on them, like the knee flare and ankle spheres.
And also then use other other space marine bits, like mk3 backpacks, helmet plumes, swords, etc.
Also then greenstuff a lot of things, like lightning bolt onto the leg armor and making loincloths/tassets.

As for mk1 helmets to make those I've seen people use guard helmets but then add a topknot to it.

Basically to make Thunder Warriors is going to be hard.

"This can never end badly." :said the Dark Eldar.

All that'd for sure create is a chaos corrupted horror entity made from Emp's genes and cause insane fucking problems for everyone not just inside the webway but outside of it as well.
Never mind that shit would definetly just open the portal to Commoragh and let daemons invade to skull fuck and rape the Dark Eldar and then damn thing for sure would instantly start running for the human made webway portions and then start banging on the gate the real Emperor is keeping shut, which will cause it to fail for sure.

Honestly I'm fucking surprised that the Custodes even allow Mechanicus to deal with the Dark Eldar and letting them get hands on and repairing the damn Golden Throne.
And don't tell me that they don't know of it, because if that's the case it just shows that the Custodes deserve to get the Thunder Warrior treatment for failing at their job.
And if they do know of it and just let it happen, they still deserve the Thunder Warrior treatment for absolute fucking retards that endangering the Emperor, the Imperium and god damn humanity in the whole process.

>Rumour has it that 10e actually will be a hard reset with indexes.

KeK.

I would be raging if I bought Daemons or Militarum at EOL 9th and had less than 6 months of game time with the codex. Or even Voltan - though I'm starting to buy into the idea Voltan are going to be "The 9.5 to 10th ed. tech demo Army"

I think the reason the Index reset approach is being touted is that if they are bringing in Reactions from HH there is going to have to be a whole revamp of the mechanical workings of 9th Ed units; as well as having to give give a full breakdown of what Stratagems are now Reactions. I can see Command Points being things you still get from detachment but only apply to pre-battle upgrades to your force such as Warlord Traits, Relics, Unit Upgrades etc.

I think this is seen partly in the way they have designed units and splat-books; eg. Berzerkers used to have BFTBG but in the new codex they just straight-up upped their base attacks. You basically get the same thing as before but it's easier to manage and speeds the game up (you aren't rolling twice). Where as in Nephillium matched play the rules force you to spend CP on what were once free upgrades (eg. Warlord Traits) which would probably be expanded out a bit into general USR upgrades for forces.

Mind all this is speculation. Knowing GW it will just be a total dumpster fire as they commit their long over due self-inflicted gunshot wound we all expect them to make.

If you actually played the game and felt it was too bloated, it would be complaints about the layers of rules like Docrinas, Synaptic Imperatives, Katahs, etc. "I have higher AP now" or "I have higher wounds now" is not bloat. Seeing a 2 where you used to see a 1 is not bloat.

>What's the process of CSM recruitment like?
Same as the loyalist ones, but they utilize their own slaves, or just corrupt loyalist marines into chaos marines.
Also the Iron Warriors created the Daemonculaba shit that essentially works by taking a male child, then performing a reverse c-section a woman who has all the marine implants in her, and then implant the child into her, where the child grows up to be a full space marine and grows his own organs inside his body and then after that they take him out.

And also these culaba marines all miss their skins, so they get a fresh new skinsuit transplanted onto them as a graduation present as well. And yeah the Iron Warriors essentially created "skin farms" to supply it all for the culaba marines.

Yeah chaos marines aren't joking around and doing half measures.

I feel this is a bigger problem in the table top community that instead of engaging with the hobby to the point where they customize and use their imagination to make their perfect realized scenario they rely on the big daddy company to give them lore. Now, this can be blamed on the companies themselves but I can't help but see secondaries that expect everything to be given out rather than they take the concept and run wild with it.
Reminder: The best 40k stories are ones created by players coming up with their own slice of the galaxy.
>>
>>85544295

Tbh, I can understand why they'd just want GW to come out and say it because the fact is if you unironically made female marines now and posted them anywhere there are bound to be insane spergs about it.
Even if the guy who posts his stuff and had made his own fluff about and for them how they work and why they happened, etc.
Autistic spergs would be going full retard and arguing "muh lore" and engaging in bad faith retard arguments, even though like you said 40k is about making your own stuff and making your own slice of the galaxy.

It's the reason why I despise the HH and the fags that play it because if you try to do anything different just to have something to have /yourdudes/ they'll make a stink about it screech like apes.
The Lost Legions exist for people to make their own legions, but if you try to do that HH autists will just butthurtly say you can't do it because we know nothing about them, even though the whole point is that.
>>
>>85544265
You are new to this kind of shit right? Their "problem" is that by saying that only males can become space marines GW is implying that all the penises individuals that become marines also identify as male, which is an outright act of bigotry because it denies the existence of penises individuals that become marine while identifying as Women or anything else.
>>
>>85544334
The Heresy era as a whole should've been left as a legend in all honesty. Have key details and events with certain major players be known sure, but leave all the nitty gritty and specifics lost to the aeons of time or as a tight secret within the halls of the inner imperium sanctums.
But yeah, hard core fluff defenders are annoying and do make it hard to play with the sandbox that 40k originally was.
>>
>>85544337
To be honest the idea that Space Marines would identify themselves as anything but Space Marines is weird.
Why would they consider thjings on terms of male/female? They're not even human
>>
>>85544337
It is still stupid imo, because isn't the whole point with the trannies and such that they don't want to be even reminded what they are originally?
Even if you write as "He/she has to be male to become a marine." It literally still just says "You have to be a *MAN* to become a space marine."
>>
>>85544348
It's like these people forget that once a marine, your entire life is now a weapon for the imperium (Or the dark gods if you fall).
>>
>>85541766
There's way too much shit purposefully complicating the rules for sure. Every individual system has at least 3 layers of exceptions.
For example, just basic damage.
Hit, wound, save.
The wound roll is complete bloat and should just be rolled into the other two somehow.
Huge amounts of mixed damage stats on one model too, making you have to double or triple or sometimes quadruple the numbers of comparisons you have to do. Oh but wait, your squad leader also has a different set of weapons, better roll those separate =^)
I'm 100% saying the game needs to get dumbed down a little bit, not for the sake of the intellect but the sake of brevity. I'd like to be able to have a game take 2 hours, or at the very least less than 3.
>>
>>85544348
>>85544354
Space Marines literally identify as attack helicopters yes, but their problem is more with the aspirants. Again, regardless of what Marines are, by saying that only males can become marines you are basically committing genocide against all the hecking valid trans individuals that will totally pass all the tests for physical and psychological eligibility for becoming a marine.
>>
>>85544348
>Why would they consider thjings on terms of male/female? They're not even human
Because they still are, the whole point with marines is that they are walking contradiction.
They are fundamentally speaking still human but they aren't just mere humans.

A bit of both to be honest.
I like 3 boxes of Cadians. And about 4 of pushfit Cadians. I like the idea of my guardsmen being consistent in appearance with each other. So I will be hit with the old good new bad meme.
I just hope that the new scale plastic Cadians are just current sculpts with better proportions. But this is GW here and I won't be surprised in the slightest if we get guardsmen models nearly as tall as Primaris marines.

>>
>>85544573
Detachments are basically the typical force org chart, but also like formations from 7th: you choose one, and you have to obey the unit allotments of it. For example, a vanguard detachment is like a force org where you have to have a minimum of three elites and one HQ. The higher your points level for your game is, the more detachments you're allowed to take, essentially allowing you to have your army built up of multiple little armies. These armies can have their own special rules and whatnot, but that's a whole nother thing.

Stratagems and command points are related to another. Remember stratagems from Planet Strike and Apocalypse? They're literally that. But instead of being alloted some by default due to the game type, or purchasing them with points, you purchase them with a new currency, Command Points. Each stratagem has a bunch of different rules as they themselves explain, and each cost a certain amount of command points. How many command points you have at your disposal is determined by how many points you play; the higher the point level the more CP.

Lords of war are literally just super heavies and Apocalypse units. Plus girlyman for some reason.

Relics are special little items you can give to characters, most often your Warlord(army leader). They are also purchased with CP.

In theory, you can just play with two troops and an hq, but all of these have become so interwoven that a lot of units and even armies are subpar without them, or don't even work properly without them. It's bullshit.

As the other Anon said, its pretty similar to loyalists. Most chaos marines actually think the emperor did a pretty good job designing astartes, and make improvements to their marines through demons, sorcery and forbidden technology for the most part. Due to the nature of chaos supply chains and medical facilities can be rare or non-existent so a lot of warbands use alternate methods of creating marines. There's things like the Daemonculaba like in this post >>85544305, but there are plenty of other work arounds such as creating clones, using sorcery to replicate the organs in an applicant, or in some of the larger warbands just being able to do the implantation. At this point there's like a thousand different ways that chaos marines use to get to a relatively similar result, and due to the strength even the weakest astartes have and the way the warp can strengthen most individuals, the fact that some methods create inferior marines doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

looks a lot of a like my store ton of dudes with 30+ years and very few new players. Zero understanding from the old guard.
"just paint your army" when you would rather buy a box of models to actualy play.
"why don't you bring a different list" when all you have is this 2000pts, which is actualy more like 1800pts, you just keep stuff in reserves and hope by turn 3 a unit will die and you can recycle it.

"We will do X, Y and Z and the event is going to awesome with everyone bringing cool terrain" when you have zero terrain, no place to store it and you would rather buy models.

"when you grow up to be an adult you will learn to be a non WAAC, for fun, painting first player" told to you by a dude with 16000pts of eldar, triple your years and double your parents (both of them combined) income.

>A strike force of White Scars hunts the Hydra across the sand dunes of Haadekh. Veterans of countless xenos wars, the Space Marines know that the best method of fighting Tyranids is to cut the head from the beast, sending the swarm into confusion. However, each synapse creature the White Scars slay sends out a psychic scream, attracting fresh swarms of Tyranids to their location. Soon they are surrounded. Warriors to the end, the White Scars sell their lives dearly. Their sacrifice draws Hydra’s swarms away from Haadekh’s equatorial cities, giving the Imperium time to evacuate key personnel

I'm not excusing anything, I'm telling you the facts: marines are not that tall, humans in 40k vary in height and there are bloodlines of practical peak humans, alongside ones that receive augmentations

slight scale differences in an army, between armies, are irrelevant, and it's not like GW hasn't always used hierarchical scales in the past, heroic proportions of equipment or reduced size for stuff like tanks

Oh I am that odd guy in the middle that somehow survived staying in the game from 7th ed. I ain't saying painting models is bad, or that having more models is bad. It is just the type of advice some old timers give to dudes in their mid teens that make zero sense.

Some dudes that earn 1200$+ per month, don't get or don't remember how it is to have a hobby budget of 10-30$. And good advice in general, don't work so well then. Telling a 14y old to get an airbrush, 15+ paints makes as much sense as telling someone that in order to have no problem transporting their army, they should just buy a car or even better buy a house/flat of their own.
>>
>>85545180
I think what the story meant is that their dying synapse creatures sent a signal of marine location, so all other forces rushed there asap
It's consistent gimmick of that fleet

Yeah but they are White Scars. Their default location is "Not here anymore". If it was a chapter known for digging in or dragging their feet like Imperial Fists or Salamanders it would make more sense.

Anon. No one in their teens in my country can get in to GW games. When I was starting, getting two starter sets or an army deal and 1-2 boxs gave you a full army. I have my armies the way I like them, mostly buying recasts done here. But old timers don't tell new guys that they can get a Land Raider or a Knight for 10$ off the net. They would rather dump their own army on them for 400-500$ . It is like free money and doesn't anger the mrs, when she checks the family account.

That's a primaris marines even with the conservative estimate being like 8 feet tall, fucking Gaunt in this pic >>85544790 is up to the marine's shoulder in height making him like 7 feet. And if you go with the absolutely ridicilous size estimate of primaris being supposedly 9-10 feet tall, Gaunt in that pic is like 8-9 feet tall.

Which is not gonna happen since every fucking human in the imperium would be suffering from malnutrition especially lower class plebians, and it heavily affects your over all height.
And Gaunt is a normal ass plebian human.

Just face it, primaris being GW's attempt to truescale was a fucking lie from the start just so they'd swallow the new release easier.

>The Imperium's warp travel is said to be the best and the key to their ability to maintain a large empire, with rivals like the Orks being unable to reliably travel and therefore having small empires
>Primarchs are even more powerful, specifically said to have warp-based strength and able to defeat entire armies on their own. Specifically mentioned that some Primarchs had unique powers like "flight and invisibility"
>The Primarchs are not immortal and the last one died 1400 years before the 41st millennium.

They are also depicted as leading bands of renegades and psykers in activities far outside the Imperium's understanding, and dealing closely with the Eldar, just like the Sensei typically did.

When you compare the two it's obvious that the Perpetuals are an attempt to reintroduce a revised version of the Sensei back into the setting. I think the Horus Heresy series will conclude with the extinction of the natural Perpetuals though.
