I've just finished reading Head of the Hydra and although it both opens and ends with "this is a lie" I wonder if it is really possible that they're warp clones of each other.

>>
>>85031377
The Warlord-related changes will be delt, at least. With the Nephilim starting CP nerfs you're likely to only have one Tyrant and you really don't want him dead early or you're screwed out of Imperatives, so maybe shooty walkrants with Tyrant Guard will be the way to go, which is a relief for all the poor sods getting eaten by Reaper flyrants currently.

>>85031470
Unitcrunch dot com. It's not as accurate as 40k stats engine since it uses monte carlo simulations instead of computing the distribution outright, but the stats engine site never came back online and I can't be arsed to run the library locally. But you can configure the numberbof runs so the margin of error is small. Plus there's a few effects that are pretty relevant and unitcrunch does better.

If you no longer get free warlord traits, how does that work for the Chaos primarchs who are supposed to have three each?

>What else in the codex can be considered 'overpowered'?
- Hive Tyrants still fuck up everything in the game in melee, psychic and shooting. While being insanely tough, and able to be bodyguarded.
- Warriors are still really good with Boneswords at 30ppm
- Tyrannofex with Acid Spray is still too cheap even after the +15
- Spore Mine spam is ludicrously obnoxious, and actually really hard to deal with for most armies.
- Maleceptors are "farier" now, but their aura of -1S for enemy shooting which you can stack with the -1 to hit from Venomthropes makes Tyranids easily the tankiest army in the game against shooting.
- Reaper of Obliteraax should be removed from the game
- Now they've bumped the Heavy Venom Cannon in points people might actually realise the Stranglethorn cannon is just as busted
- Now that Psychic storm is nerfed, Nids are now (again) the best faction at putting out Mortal Wounds in the game.
>>
>>85031477
Yep. Meaning that if you run, say, 6 5-man PM squads and you fully kit them out, you get a nice 360 free points compared to before.
>>
>>85031505
I like them, they remind me of this, but I would probably cut a lot of those unnecessarily protruding bits and try to integrate the weapon better
maybe repose the arms as if the pilot is crucified or directly cut alongside the legs
>>
>>85031670
It's not been officially ruled on, but most people are interpreting it as you have to pay for 1 trait, and then you get all 3. But if you don't pay, you don't get any of them.

Double Patrol for -2CP
2 Relics in the form of Reaper and Shardgullet -2CP
Warlord Walkrant w/ Adaptive Phys for permanent 5+++

I'd be fine going into T1 with 2CP if I get first turn or 3CP if I go second. Might actually just start on 0CP and give Neuro the 2 x 3d6 to cast WLT as well. GW doesn't seem to understand that generally speaking on most player's boards the "alpha strike" is T2, by which point even if I start at 0CP I'll have 3 if I go first. Plenty.

>Spore Mine spam is ludicrously obnoxious
Is... it? I was just thinking about having a fun project sculpting my own mines, is it really that unpleasant to play against? Just less than a year ago that was a joke list.
I am gonna do it regardless.
>>
>>85031550
Warhammer 40k is the futuristic baroque one and very likely the one they meant. It's a whole universe but the primary product is the wargame, which is what this general is about. Essentially, you buy the unassembled, unpainted plastic at a not inconsiderable price, build and paint them yourself, then get together with other autists and roll dice. It's complicated, has a pretty high barrier of entry between money, time and community and will certainly turn you into an autist, but it's fun.

If that's not your jam, there's also quite a lot of books of varying degrees of quality, many videogames with the same caveat, some animated miniseries, secondary board games (Kill Team being the cheapest and simplest to get into, recommended), a couple comics and mountains of fan content. Have fun!

nta but spore mines have never been bad in all the time I've played them. Sporefield took investment but bricked high movement armies (especially with big bases). The movement blocking shenanigans PLUS krakens in-your-face movement speed meant mortals wounds actually happened and depending on your matchup (say Dark Angels) that can be hilariously effective.

"My guy ignores all armour saves"
"Oh yeah! well my guy has an 'invulnerable' save that he always gets to take!"
"Oh yeah!... well... my new relic does mortal wounds, which bypass the wound roll AND saving throw entirely!"
"OK... well, my guy has a 'Feel No Pain' to resist even after he fails a save... AND you can't do more than 3 wounds to him at a time"
"That's bullshit... well my new relic ignores that rule too!"

Deadass you can pay 630 for 6 units of fully kitted to the gills dudes. Unless this gets hotfixed, Plague Marines are looking like one of the most pushed units in the game. There are mockup DG builds that can save upwards of 700 points over where they were before the update.

>>85031839
You draw a line in the sand 12" out from their deployment line. If you go first you have options like metabolic overdrive strat or Onslaught spell if you want to guarantee exploding or you just move the line up 3-9" and completely stymie their first non-fly movement phase. If you go second they can, in a worst case scenario, shoot down the mines and charge the vestiges to risk extremely little mortal wounds for some board control. However if they are 15" into the board that was usually a fitting place to be counterattacked during your turn 1. Side note that in certain matchups where you do not want them to have board control at all you just park your sporefield in your deployment zone/screen with them and go from there.

Still processing. I am very glad about the softening of the buggy restriction, but it has the caveat of the CP belt tightening leaving a second detachment harder to justify, making fast attack slots more of a premium. I will have to hash out potential lists and see where it's at.

Speaking of the CP changes, those are still pretty rough on us via warlord traits and relics, which we got a lot of use out of. I am looking at going from 3 relics and 2 warlord traits in most of my lists, to maybe 1 warlord trait.

Waaagh changes look great but I usually run speedwaaagh. Might tinker around with some lists that swap to regular waaagh and some trukknobz, S8 big choppas counteract a lot of the loss from AoC by shifting up the wound roll on a number of common targets.

>so much seethe
anon, for someone who knows nothing about 40k but wants to learn about it, reading 50 or so books about demigods drama set 10k years prior is pointless
they're not even good books

space marines were created by the emperor of mankind to conquer the galaxy, half of the semidivine commanders at the head of the 18 legions turned against the emperor because they fell to chaos
they were defeated and retreated into the eye of terror, but the emperor was fatally wounded and interred in the golden throne, where he sat for 10k years and counting

that's it, that's what someone who's learning about 40k has to know about the heresy, getting into the specifics is literally useless when you've got the rest of the setting to introduce

I swear, the people who think the horus heresy is important are underage

Yeah just no, all eldar got their heads up their own asses and think of themselves as the center of the universe. They will not hesitate to destroy and kill billions of humans just to save 2 of their own.
Or just glassing a planet because some humans happened to live on some planet that use to belong to some faggot eldar named Duntyr Kelrier, of the Misty Night.

Hell they'll just go out of their way to dick over and kill some guy because a farseer got extremely vague slightly bas premonition/prophecy/dream of the guy's descendant doing something bad.
And then resulting the guy and all the eldar dying trying to prevent it only to realize that they going out of their way to stop it is what causes the bad premonition/prophecy/dream.

There are TONS of problems; like jumping at the wrong place at the wrong time, getting lost in the boring parts of the warp (the nurglite ones where you get stuck in the mud rather than in a fight), or maybe the Gretchin didn’t wrap directly into a marine’s arteries and instead softly landing on his head.

the big problem is baked into the DNA of 40k. Every action succeeds or fails on a d6. which isn't a whole lot of probability generation. So you have to have multiple successes or failures from both parties. But then to make models tankier, they can really only add higher success chances to those rolls. But then if they want to make a model choppier their only option is to make rules that bypass other rules.

it's super clunky and is 100% the result of having way too many unique HQs and elite units in the game.

Not bitching that there is no WOWIE ZOWIE SUPER UNITS other than Abaddon, just the codex seems generally weak and the loadout restrictions weakened the better units from last edition.
I'll just wait for them to jump Abaddon 150 points after people realize you can heal him with the Master of Possession and give him FnPs with a Sorcerer.

>two thin coats of gellar field

>>85032880
From what I've read of the leaks so far it looks good. Sucks we're losing so many options but it's no surprise given how the edition's been panning out for everyone else, just wish they'd be less schizophrenic about it (chosen losing fists but other units get to keep them, for example). I wanna see the build-a-warband rules, but right now for /mydudes/ the Red Corsairs rules I was using last edition look better than ever.

I like heavy armor, so I’m happy about the buffs to Vindis, Preds and Land Raiders. I like basic bitch CSM so the “Legionary” profile is cool, even though I don’t play a legion. Hoping Termie lords aren’t megafucked with wargear choices, but we’ll see.

What really pisses me off is the upgrade sprue only applies to legionnaires instead of just being a generic weapon sprue that could have fixed a lot of these issues. Like yeah losing fists on Chosen is fucking lame but if they could take a daemon sword or heavy chainaxe or whatever it'd be a lot less painful. Same for characters - why the fuck CAN'T a chaos lord take a bigger chainaxe? What's the point of a weapon sprue if it only works for a single unit?

The schola progenium gets punk'd hard by the Alpha Legion in their new short story.

‘My staff will give their lives to stop you!’ Emil spat.

‘They will certainly give their lives,’ Solomon said softly. ‘We will still take the children, however.’ He placed one hand over his chest, and bowed slightly. ‘Thank you, commandant, for your service to the Alpha Legion this day. I will leave you alive so that you might inform the authorities of your failure when they arrive. You may wish to take your own life before that occurs,’ he continued, with a slight shrug. ‘I doubt they will be merciful, even though there was nothing you could have done to prevent this.’

Emil’s mouth dried as he heard his own thoughts twisted up and presented back to him, but as Solomon turned away he found that his well of defiance was not yet quite dry.

‘My progena will never believe your lies!’ he yelled at Solomon’s back.

The Alpha Legionnaire paused. Then he spoke without turning.

‘Why not? They believed yours.’

Solomon Akurra walked out of Commandant Emil Vissarius’ office, and quietly shut the door behind him.

Space marines show up and want some clever kids. Headmaster finds them suspicious and alerts security. Hell breaks loose, gets bad enough that the teachers start executing their students. Space marines get some kids anyway. Page count reached.

Story is mainly told from the PoV of a preteen being escorted by a marine autist and his suicide girl handler.

Shame the entire $250 horus heresy box is on the wrong size bases for 40k (40mm vs 50mm characters, 32 vs 40mm termies, 25mm vs 32mm marines, undersized dreadnought base)

That funny thing was, I didn't even like the story. I was just curious why it was cringe. It's generic at best. Cringe would have to be some short story where a night lords warband capture a deathwatch ship, scare them to death with thier scaryness, take a dark eldar captive and make her the leaders sex slave who loves his massive cock. That's cringe.

Some of the faces are rougher than others, but I'm thinking these guys are mostly finished. Going to do the tartan tomorrow as it's a ball ache. That's the look I'm going for. Lore wise they're feral world survivalists so they definitely shouldn't look fresh from the parade ground.
>>
>>85033952
>Why do orks have nipples?

The same reason they have perpetually flaccid dicks. Orks were not made wholly from scratch - the Old Ones took an existing alien species that had little more than rudimentary intelligence and used it as the stock from which they engineered the Krork. Nipples and other mammalian features that are unnecessary for their hybrid fungi biology are simply vestigial remains from that original template.

White Scars is the only actual mechanized marine chapter in 40k. IronHands are not mechanized, they're just dreadnought bullshit. IronHands doesn't do rhinos and mobile infantry.

WhiteScars have strats so 1 rhino can be bonkers.

Normal rhino, can only dump marines out before moving, slow as fuck. If you wanna drive it you drive and marines stay inside. 3" is the max they can go on turn 1 and fight.

White Scars - 2 points lets you move twice in a turn, so you can have a rhino go 24+D6" (advancing), for 1 more point they can disembark after they drove 30" ahead. 1 point lets you turn all heavy and rapid fire into assault weapons so your squad that got out of the transport as far as 33" forward can fire 10 multimelta shots into something that would've been totally invincible behind a wall from the normal rhino squads.

Spending 4 points on it is a bit much but you can still do 12"+D6" version for only 2 when desired which is still infinitely better than normal rhinos only disembarking stuff 3" or nothing if it drives.

it was almost good except for them removing weapon options (like powerfist champs, or jumppack lords) and not being allowed to use rubrics/plague marines/berserkers as troops since they want to sell that BS as separate armies.

>>
>>85034595
>not being allowed to use rubrics/plague marines/berserkers as troops
TBF the only 1 of those that were troops in CSM codex was Zerkers, and that was a hold over faq for world eaters.

whatever you want. The books go with all 4 things you imagine: a microwave that heats up the target, a cone of lava, a beam of super-hotness, whatever you feel like.
>>
>>85034604
My preferred version is them firing a stream of superheated gas that just punches through most things, which also why it's better the closer you are since even over the short distance the extreme temps cools enough that's it's not as effective from a distance.
>>
>>85034604

>>85034616
I know that, and there was no reason plague marines or rubrics or noise marines should've ever been an elites slot.

They created those stat cards based on the idea of them as basic troopers and simply tossed em to elites as punishment.

It's balanced like if for some reason space marines 2.0 were to move scouts+tacticals to Troops and then move Intercessors, Infiltrators, Assault Intercessors and Incursors to Elites because they're all basically advanced squads that are more elite and specialized than the tactical marine squad.

Chaos gets randomly cornholed on troops just so you need different models to play 3-4 subfactions of chaos. You can use the same Intercessors in dark angels, white scars, ultramarines, deathwatch, space wolves and blood angels... but no, it'd be unforgivable if chaos could use plague marines in both CSM and Death Guard...

You are being fooled by the shift in proportions. New orks have broader torsos, thicker legs, and smaller heads which give the impression of being larger. But they are of equal height and a similar overall visual footprint.
