Everything before or after Black Books 1-7 is not canon.
>>84516066I can already feel the autism this OP will create
I'm taking inventory of my spookybois. Among everything else, I've got two terrors squads, one in mkiii and one in mkiv, and I've got a unit of Night Raptors in the regular Forgeworld style. I kinda want to do another squad, but I want them to be a different style. I've also got 20 MkV assault marines and 10 destroyers, so idk if I want to do Mkiv and Mkv. Destroyers are pretty unique I guess. I might go full dumb and use the old upgrade heads with the giant bat wings for maximum ham, but regardless I'm not sure what armor style. Any ideas?
Any word on whether or not Leviathans will get a plastic kit?I remember seeing rumors about it a while back but the lack of leaks makes me worried. I feel like we've seen all the reveals for leaked models now that they've shown the Sicaran.

Should i get a superheavy or a knight?
>>84516754depends, what do you play?
>>84516754superheavy if loyalist, knight if traitor.
We need new plastic mk5. It's stupid that after a decade since the Black Books the mark literally called "Heresy armour" is the least commonly seen in the game
>>84516811I'm painting WE. Will never play them though.
Always hated how the EC are portrayed as 100% fucked up even before Istvaan, makes painting them up in the clean purple and gold feel wrong. Seems like most of the other traitor legions had a more slow decline into corruption over the course of the Heresy. Don't think I've seen many people paint accurately fucked up EC either, it's usually either black/pink or just replacing the purple with bright pink or something like that. Just feels like the only legion with such a big disconnect from the fluff and what you actually see people paint
>>84516869IIRC beyond those close to Fulgrim most of the III legion didn't go full CSM until after Issvan 5.By Angel Exterminatus they're already a carnivale of gaudy colours, body mods, and literal camp whores/cultists within their ranks. But most people must like them for their classic purple/gold scheme, so that's what they paint them. Still proper for loyalist EC, though
>>84516869if anything it is more horrific to have perfect umblemished appearances but be monstrous beneath, and their heresy story is about the pursuit of perfection leading to self adoration so it is more thematic of the overall period than just being leather daddies from day one.
so what do you guys think about this article?maybe plastic leviathan?
>>84516988>umblemished appearances but be monstrous beneathThat role is the DA's thing
>>84517091Leviathan or Predator for sure
>>84516148The Leviathan is one of FWs best selling kits, there's no way a plastic one isn't in the works.
>>84517091I think it’ll be another character. Exodus, corswain, khan.
>>84516869>>84516915Throughout there heresy, EC were changing their colors at their personal whims as their feelings about their artistic expression became more overriding, but were paining things to fit their personal style - which, while getting more fucked up over time, would mostly have taken the form of more gilding and decorations, with perhaps more sculpted reliefs, overstated medals and personal badges than outlandish color clashes. More gaudy and ostentatious than freakish. Those outlandish color clashes would mostly have occurred well after the heresy as they became irreversibly addicted to warpmusic and needed things to be in neon lizardstripe patterns as their abused sensory centers became unable to distinguish one 'normal' color from another, like a reverse-colorblindness that lets you see way more color but at the expense of all ordinary colors becoming too dull to distinguish.tldr they were fucked up, just not that fucked up yet.
>>84517092DA are more clandestine basically the illuminati, EC are more Nero and narcissistic.also DA are gay

Is the main decoration that they had the writing + parchments? How do I set the standard marines apart from the veterans?
Are volkite calivers unable to be fired on the move? Lore says so, but I don't know about the rules.
>>84518122Oh fuck also forgot to askWould it make much sense to have post-heresy mark iv armour fighting alongside mark iii armour?
>>84518158>Would it make much sense to have post-heresy mark iv armour fighting alongside mark iii armour?Sure. It was long, long after the Scouring (probably not until around the 3rd Founding) before loyalists could afford to stop using every single suit they had, in most cases.
>>84517959Path of the warrior so I could use more varied selection of aspect warriors. This was super important in the game against the daemon player as we both used a leviathan FoC.
Will the new Contemptor Dreadnought let you take two ranged arms or are you stuck with having to take one fist?
>>84518122>>84518158Nothing wrong with having a range of armour marks in an army, especially a late heresy one. Using CSM bits for your veterans is a good way of making them stand out and acceptable for WB, but for my part I think they’re better if the 40k stuff is mixed in with 30k kits, and the overall gribbliness is toned down a little by trimming off some of the more chaos-y stuff.
>>84518122>>84518158Mk3 is up-armored mk2 and was generally meant for breaching actions, forlorn hopes, general heavy assault where you want more armour. Mk4 is a straight upgrade to mk2 but is more complicated to make and has less armour than mk3, so mk3 still saw use. When the heresy broke out people realised that mk3 is better at stopping bolter rounds so it became a more general purpose armour. As for decorations it's pretty much flavor to taste, though they also used arcane symbology along side writing that you can see in the black books.

>>84526038Bayonets are 1 point a pop, chain bayonets are 2 points. Chainswords on tacticals are a really fat 5 points each. Bayonets are very aggressively priced for tacticals and S5 + shred might as well be auto wound against T3 or T4.

They range from heavy razor-edged chainbayonet, to adamantine gladius and Thule-alloy battle-axes that would be too heavy for an unaugmented human to wield."It's pure fluff and doesn't say everyone has one.Horus Heresy Age of Darkness Rulebook says:"If a model is not specifically stated as having a weapon with the Melee type, it is treated as being armed with a single close combat weapon."Note that it then says that Pistols, when used in close combat, have a Melee profile. It also clarifies 'single' close combat weapon. In the old rules, some units had an option to purchase Close Combat Weapons, Combat Knives, or Chainswords. In the new (playtest) rules, no units (so far) have, or have an an option to purchase, Close Combat Weapons/Basic Combat Weapons - and none of the units that previously had them or an option to take them do any longer - and things like Chainswords have separate profiles.New Liber Astarts says (Basic Combat Weapons):"As stated in Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness Rulebook, all models are considered to have some form of basic close combat weapon - be it a knife, entrenchment tool or simply bared fists and stubborn determination. In the Legiones Astartes this is most often the ubiquitous combat blade, a single-edged pattern welded blade forged of several non-terrestrial alloys. Regardless of the nature of the weapon, all basic combat weapons share the same profile, repeated here for ease of reference."

>>84526485Read the fucking rule book, it is the exact same shit as every other version of 40k.If you DO NOT HAVE a ccw, you use the base ccw profile. This doesn't mean you get a free ccw because your bolt pistol already counts as one.
>>84527008I explain here >>84526710 , the Rulebook may say something similar to that, but in addition to that, the (playtest) Liber Astartes says that 'all models are considered to have some form of basic close combat weapon', which it then gives a profile for, which does not match anything else that they have or can take (except for 2 legion-specific units).Unlike the previous edition Legiones Astartes Age of Darkness Army List (and Book One), this mixes rule text with its flavor text ("all basic combat weapons share the same profile"), making it possible that the statement that "all models are considered to have some form of basic close combat weapon" is also a rule. They sure didn't need to repeat Basic Close Combat Weapon in the Liber Astartes book if it's in the main rulebook, even for 2 legion-specific units. It changed for a new edition of 40K, it could change for a new edition of 30K. GW were never very good at writing good or even clear rules. It's not settled fact and won't be until we can at least see the final rules.
>>84526986Nice pedantry - except those units mostly had - or had options to take - a CCW OR Chainsword and now just have a chainsword
>>84527056nah you're a fucking idiot, all models already have some form of basic close combat weapon, it's their bolt pistolsfucking dumb shit
>>84527056I hate faggots like you so much who think retarded wordplay is intelligence If GW clarifies that they intended every unit to have at base an extra attack via your retarded interpretation I will post my nudes with face, along with a time stamp and picture of my passport (open to my identification information) and drivers license. I’ll even post my social security number.
>>84527061>CCW OR Chainsword and now just have a chainswordThe Chainsword used to be the exact same profile and points cost. Now it is a much greater points cost and a completely different profile.Let me say this: I think it's a reasonable conjecture that, due to the popularity of Betrayal at Calth, the majority of Legiones Astartes models* in existence would be the plastic MK4 Space Marines. But they have Combat Blades, not chainswords, with no option to take Combat Blades anymore (which they used to.) So you're suggesting that the majority of Horus Heresy models in existence are being squatted by these rules. Does that sound likely? How often does GW give options on kits but make the rules to use those options illegal (they usually doe the opposite and remove rule options that were never model parts from the same kit.)>>84527070>all models already have some form of basic close combat weapon, it's their bolt pistolsfucking dumb shitWell, that doesn't match the description of the basic close combat weapons that the section supposedly describes: "a knife, entrenchment tool or simply bared fists and stubborn determination. In the Legiones Astartes this is most often the ubiquitous combat blade, a single-edged pattern welded blade forged of several non-terrestrial alloys">>84527082Argue my points rather than sperging out. Or don't, I don't really give a fuck. You are probably a very boring conversationalist.
>>84527184No, no one likes muh debate me!! faggots. I’m not debating you because I know I’m right and I know the majority of people agree with meI already proved my point with very simple logic>if GW wanted every unit to have a CCW and pistol they would include that in the rules>here’s an example where they did exactly that.>GW didn’t just give out extra attacks because that’s retarded
>>84527082>they intended every unit to have at base an extra attackWell, they might. It might be that this is true for marines but not other forces. That would make sense, and give marines in general a better go in combat with non-marines.I mean, they intend all marines to have Frag and Krak grenades, pretty much. And they do list those. But in 4th edition 40K (only), that wasn't true - all marines had to explicitly buy Frag and Krak grenades if they wanted them (and didn't have to if they didn't want them). So it's a thing that can change from edition to edition based on how they want the game to play, rather than matching exactly what they've done before.Almost everyone in the game being able to assault into cover with no initiative penalty makes cover as a defense against assault pretty distorted, but there you go, that's what they did. Even though it would have made perfect sense for HH marines to be different, and if it were an option, I think all sorts of listbuilding differences would have occurred over the years, as people scrape 10-20 points from their squads to put elsewhere. We definitely saw that with things like melta bombs and artificer armor.
>>84527276>very simple logicBecause GW always write perfectly logic rules, right? What about the logic that GW always write rules with models in mind, and most models that exist (MK4 tactical marines), come with combat blades, and used to have a rule to be able to take those, but now the models still come with combat blades, but you can't use those models if they have combat blades? You're just making a gut reaction to the rules changing in a way you don't expect (or like). GW does change rules from one edition to the next - you can pretty much say that's the definition of a new edition - and they've changed other things that seem dumb (say, 1 contemptor per mortificator, even though it used to be 5, which was already a deliberately non-standard unit size). Anyone who'd been around a long time remembers all sorts of rage and fury about things that didn't seem to make sense (splitting power weapons, hull points, psychic phase, etc), but eventually became recognized as normal.
>>84527184Old rules: pay points for a chainsword *because it gives you +1A*We'll see what the new rules are. I'm wary of putting any faith in playtest rules.
>>84527425>Old rules: pay points for a chainsword *because it gives you +1A*Yeah, but now Chainswrods also give you Shred. And Chain-Bayonets, which are cheaper than Chainswords, also give Shred, but are two-handed.And Bayonets are also two-handed, but are +1S.So there's a point to every configuration here.At least in the mind of a game designer (statistically there's clear winners and losers, at least for most matchups, but the differences are all pretty slight and most players will chose one or another based on how they want to model things)

>>84527468It’s hard to believe that they intended for tacticals to all have a CCW and +1A as standard, because there’s no way on earth that paying 5 points for a chain sword just to get shred is worth it. Bayonets would be a downgrade as well, because losing an attack in order to gain +1S isn’t a good trade off, especially if you’re paying points for it. Despoilers would also be giving up their bolters just to get shred, which doesn’t seem worthwhile. I may be misremembering, but didn’t the new rules list pistols among the basic CCWs? That would make it a bit of a stretch to claim that they have another one on top of the bolt pistol listed in their profile. If they don’t clear the rules up before release then I expect this is one of the first things they’ll have to FAQ.

>>84529770Nice, thanks! I'm trying to beef up my black painting, flat matt black looks very boring.
>>84529701Poor kid. It's not like GW doesn't leak their own shit accidentally like retards (final AoS books recently).
>>84529772>Gets kicked out and terminated as a colaboratorHe doesn't even paint GW anymore and openly shits on the company in TUP. Sucks travelling so much and then getting kicked from the event, though. That's a rough one for sure, with all the diorama pieces that are on display there.
>>84529780You got it! I've also done similar with dark reaper up to fenrisian grey for a more blue tint that works quite nicely.
>>84529727I fucking love beakies, but I'm a bit soured on the new minis after looking closer to the details. The panel lines, the backpack, the poses, the weapons, the stupid small cables in the sides of the legs... they look off to me. Like if they were a bootleg 3dprint or something.
>>84529709if you don't have an airbrush i'd recommend using tamiya clear green and then clear blue spray cans for super fast painting, that'll also work a lot better over vehicles than contrast will.

>>84527996Tacticals aren't the only unit.Veterans for example only pay 2 points for a Chainsword. And then there's Heavy Chainblades, for +2S and Shred, but also two-handed, and which is also not worth it statistically for its price, but again: it allows people to be able to model what they want, and very slight differences in performance is within acceptable levels (I feel) given the mechanical limits of the system.Pistols, per the playtest rulebook, are close combat weapons, the same as now. But is 'basic combat weapon'/'basic close combat weapon' distinct from 'close combat weapon'? Why would they reprint, and in a marine-specific book, it if it's covered by the main rulebook?I definitely agree the rule could use a rewrite, whichever way is correct. And if they don't rewrite it, then it will need a FAQ.
>>84528529>stillHe's been out less than a year, anon, that really isn't that long as these things go. The leaks for the current box set first appeared on the scene at the same time as he was previewed, fully designed, modeled, and painted a whole year ahead of release. You need to adjust your expectations of how speedily GW works and how long it takes them to bring kits to market.>>84529611You know that you're getting chunky when you look fatter than a plague marine. If the legs were a little skinnier, and he slimmed down that sausage trim and those meatball rivets, then they'd look a lot better.
>>84529938The Tbay mkIV-V bodies look much better. Their mkIII are just "cleaned up" plague marine bodies and it shows.
>>84529937It was playtest version 3 I almost guruantee its an artifact from the playtest document that will be edited out by release.
>>84528596When Sanguinius was released I remember reading on WarCom that the model was traditionally sculpted and a lot of FW characters still are
>>84529973It would be the kind of dumb, repeated rule design oversight that is the hallmark of all GW games
So, one of the new Praetors, the one painted as SoH with a giant axe, has clear Librarian codicier markings in his cape and vanbraces, his gorget looks a lot like a psychic hood, and has two strings of decorative disks that kinda look like the ones wore by sorcerers or Tsons. Why GW does this? It was mean to be a librarian consul and they chickened out of it because is not a praetor for marketing/game purposes?
>>84530028>So, one of the new Praetors, the one painted as SoH with a giant axe, has clear Librarian codicier markings in his cape and vanbraces, his gorget looks a lot like a psychic hoodWhat the fuck does this mean? I can agree on the disks because I can vaguely see it.
>>84530059Look at the tabards in pic related and compare it with the SoH cape and vanbraces.Other 40k plastic librarians have those also sculpted (like the guy in the Kill Team Cassius box)
>>84530091Where are these markings on the praetor???
>>84530002>It would be the kind of dumb, repeated rule design oversight that is the hallmark of all GW gamesYeah, this would be my concern. It's just the kind of thing they'd leave in because which way you're supposed to interpret it seems obvious to the guys designing the game. Anons here zoned in on it quickly enough though, so we just have to hope that it got flagged up in playtesting and they've done something about it.
>>84530124The cape here >>84530028 and the vanbraces in pic related.Note how both praetors share parts of the 40k librarian. I bet that was the starting point and they backed off for some reason.
>>84530002We already know they have changed 'core' rules vis the open day rules reference> breaching just rending> lascannons losing sunderThe playtest 3 was part of an ongoing edit process.
>>84529611It does look like they made them smaller than the chaos space marines doesnt it, probably to fit in better with the existing plastic mks.
Okay, brothers. I'm narrowing down after weeks of indecision on trying to pick a legion (I avoided this by playing Mechanicum, you see). Group is going IF, EC, and a few are also undecided. However, based on this information and knowing how others are and their past armies/legions (we're all doing new stuff for the new edition to CONSOOM) we're going to have more loyalists than traitors. So I have thought the following.>Iron Warriors>i like their fluff and their flanderization towards preparedness, logistics, and their ideas towards the necessity of actions in warfare>easy scheme to deal with, though similar to /my dudes/ in 40k (though an anon here said go hard on hazard stripes for the IW so that might be good)>i like shooting and artillery >can go from the crusade to the scouring with no change>fluffy rivalry between at least two people so far>the industrial look epitomizes 30k for me>Death Guard>nice scheme and easy to do>fluff is pretty ok and I like their units>They're basically br*tish so kind of yucky>i actually don't want to do death guardOk, it's either Iron Warriors or a shooting World Eaters (my girlfriend randomly chose the number 12 when I asked her for one for HH when we saw the leaks), or i could just skip a legion again and just do a tank and artillery heavy Imperial Army, eventually.

>>84530722Also, I literally. LITERALLY. Can't. That would kill me both financially, mentally, and would kill any sort of enjoyment I get from painting and building models. I am a slow painter, and I have been for 20 years. I've been able to speed up with some things and simply hide the crimes but 500 models would destroy me.
>>84529805Indeed, something is off. They could have just upscaled the old beakies but they had to tweak the design and I'm not a fan of change for the sake of change.

>>84529909I'm in my 40s and have more empathy towards people than you, I guess. You'll grow into it as you age. Sure, he fucked up, and I get why GW have to stick to their guns. Otherwise nobody will respect NDAs. I hope Scott can play it cool and keep his dignity.

>>84531880>>84531594>>84531603Hey now, don't say I have low standards. I'm saying I'd dump a load in his wife because if I remember correctly she is a thin redhead with circular glasses an anon posted a picture of once modelling one of his, my God, shirts from his, and so on and so on, merchandise. She wasn't smiling so I couldn't see the teeth. If it even was her. He's a non-muscular stick so being double his lank is not an achievement.

time for a new thread, guys
>>84529709If you don't have an airbrush I would seriously recommend getting one, by the way. No idea where you live but if you live in the US, go to Harbor Freight and get the quiet compressor and tank of your choice. $150 burger bucks. Get a moisture trap attachment. Next, order a double action airbrush of your choice from Amazon. Or go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's. You may have to get an adapter, but they are inexpensive (I would also recommend a quick connect). I have a Iwata Neo. It serves me well, cleans easily, and sprays out what I need it to. If you're not spraying terrible chemicals (metallics, varnish, etc) wear a respirator and then air out the room. No dogs allowed whilst you're doing it, for safety reasons. If you are spraying those, wear a mask and open the window. Or get a spray booth, or make one.I really, really recommend an airbrush for HH stuff. Basecoats are easy for all the models, and it's not dependent on the weather. It's always humid in the spring, summer, and autumn where I am. So, I can only really prime with a rattlecan outside in the winter on a good day. Getting an airbrush means I can do it whenever and also apply the other things. Yes, it is an investment. You will not regret it.
