>A King who rules through literal divine right, raised by a wise wizard with the ability of foresight, with an actual sword blessed by God and proof of his divine right to rule
>Knights with magical powers and nigh invincibility on the battlefield. Definitively united all of England centuries before Æthelstan
>Obtained an objectively holy relic of Jesus Christ, his grail, able to heal all wounds
>Potentially even had a time traveling Yankee who taught how to make guns, bicycles, dynamite, and electricity
>Dynasty still failed

What more could have been done to make the Pendragon Dynasty actually succeed?

All this proves is that no matter how great a king is, this doesn't mean his dynasty will be great. Louis XIV was the only Bourbon that wasn't shit (Henritards, swerve!)

Arthur was a Celtoid, his failure is what caused the rise of the Eternal Anglo who -lacking any degree of heroism in their accursed genepool- adopted him as their "national hero" alongside Richard "I'd sell London if I could find a buyer" Lionheart.

All of these are fair takes on them, they can be very hit or miss. I'm a better listener than a lot of people an eat up lyrics in music so I find them easy to digest.
I just don't have the time to read because of adult life but I like doing it as a way to make work go faster and keep my imagination active. I usually listen to music but I'm not always in the mood for it, and youtube with an adblocker drains your battery a lot faster than a book pirating site that lets you listen while your phone is off.

It depends on quality for me. Some are VERY nicely recorded with a great reader who matches the tone of the story perfectly, but many are unprofessional and far too quiet to hear over the machinery I have to work with.

Best one I've listened to recently was Roadside Picnic read by Robert Forster. His smoky noir cop voice matches the book *flawlessly*. It was beautiful.

...what literal divine right? Because of the sword? Uther was a conqueror of great military might, and Arthur was product of a rape, there's absolutely nothing "divine" on the Pendragon bloodline. Hell, Arthur didn't even see the grail himself. It was found by Galahad because of the purity of his heart.

Anon... you're looking at this through the modernist viewpoint. For the modernist, everything is measured in 'success' because modernists want to defy God. Arthur's BRITANNIA was far too good for our fallen world, a taste of the world that is to come. The Pendragon dynasty HAD to fail or else the events leading us towards the end times would not be fulfilled. We must remember Arthur as the example of what can be and what we should strive for. Do not worry, trust in God and trust that Arthur will return.

Funny thing that: there were many kings who exiled the Jews, yet Saint Louis is the one many Jews to this day refuse to mention by name. Where other kings would exile Jews mostly for monetary gain, Louis IX put them on trial for the contents of the Talmud (the statement that Jesus is in hell eternally boiling to death in a cauldron of shit, the prescripts that goyim could be tricked, stolen from and even killed et cetera). I imagine it must hit a sore spot when you can't just dismiss him as a greedy antisemite but have to confront the fact that he was an examining judge that even gave the Jews a 4 on 1 advantage during their trial against a former Jew.

Having read Morte d'Arthur, Gawain and the Green Knight, Parzival and Chretien de Troyes over the last couple years, I think it's interesting that people tend to overlook how a lot of mid/late medieval Arthurian stuff was satire of post-Crusades nobility and aristocracy. There seems to be some nostalgia for when knights actually accomplished things, rather than fuck around at court and learn to dance all day. I recall one early Arthur fragment where he's playing chess with Merlin or some other guy for days on end, even during a battle, and his lieutenants are begging him to stop playing and pay attention to what's going on. The language was something like "And Arthur, the greatest of all kings, refused to budge from his game until a crow flew down and stole a piece".

I especially like how de Troyes basically wrote the Launcelot/Guinevere story to entertain/mock his patroness, saying "if you keep fucking around you are going to destroy the kingdom you bitch". Interesting stuff, but de Troyes is one of the hardest to actually read.

Depends entirely on the reader and quality of the production. I had all the Narnia books on CD and they were absolutely magical to listen to on long car rides as a kid. I can still hear certain snippets from certain chapters in my head if I try.

Anything by Mark Twain is bound to be a chuckle at the very least. I wonder if they make the narrator drop n-bombs every third sentence for 4 hours.

Merlin not given self fulfilling prophecy to young Arthur, or telling him his lineage a bit earlier to avoid the whole thing
>>
The conceit of "divine lineage" goes against the very teachings of the Bible itself. Jesus left no heirs. And if he did, who cares? His Apostles were his true heirs, for their carried His blood within them, and His flesh - so do we all through Communion and the Holy Sacrament.

When someone says you need Jesus, make sure you get the real one. Don't fall for inferior brands. Jesus was made Generic. He's like Sriracha - no one owns Him, and all may have Him.

>What more could have been done to make the Pendragon Dynasty actually succeed?
Interestingly, the fall of Arthur can be tossed up to the distinction between shame & guilt.
Arthur was getting cucked by Lancelot, but since the latter was able to best every man who called him out on it he asserted that there was no crime. This shame oriented social custom allowed the "honorable" Lancelot to wreak bloody havoc and sow discord.

The fall of King Arthur was due to the greed and power hunger of others and Arthur's own mistakes. He was also far from perfect. Even in pre-Mallory (fuck I hate Mallory) Arthur was lustful, slightly greedy, and very proud. He didn't want to acknowledge his illegitimate sons, and had no son with his lawful wife. He wasn't exactly perfect.

>>84495914
England was literally ruled by the French or French speaking kings and nobles until Henry IV, and then returned to French with a number of kings.

>>84495860
There were no women in politics though. The fall came when Lancelot (who, by the by, was a Mallory self insert) fell in love with Arthur's wife, when Merlin fell in love with the 3rd lady of the lake and was turned (either into a tree or... I think a stone before then?). If you mean keep women away from men... That's some Spartan level of gay, man. But it would also have caused other issues. Imagine if Morgana managed to get her fingers into Gwen and pass of her bastard son as hers and actually managed to make Mordred the Crown Prince while also controlling him. It would have gone WAY WORSE.

Also,if any of you want a good Arthurian movie since... Forger, check out The Greek Knight. It's a trippy as fuck movie, but it's so good.

The persian empire was objectively as was Xerxes. But because people who didn't like them wrote what became our history books and also wrote a lot of fun mythologies, for the longest time both had a poor reputation in history.

Even when you get a great ruler and great dynasty you get people who are pissed off about that and want to ruin it for their own power flex. And then they die young from alcohol poisoning. Fucking Alexander.

Okay so you know how squirrels are a huge problem in modern society because they're small and like to destroy electrical boxes. Just last year the entire city of New Camelot had a power outage for 18 hours because of one squirrel.

Well you might ask yourself, "Maybe we should curtail the squirrel population like the Pentarcy Confederacy did to the Everglades Alligator population." Well there's a small tiny problem if you Live in the High Kingdom of Brittania. You see its considered a capitol offense of High Treason to even discus harming a member of the Royal Family of Brittannia and a lessor crime to accuse a member of wrong doing if there is no evidence for the contrary.

"Wait," I hear you cry, "Were talking about squirrels not Humans and definitely not the Pendragon royal family. I'm a loyal Brittanian." Well the thing is is that squirrels, well Brittanian Squirls, are considered members of the Royal Family... them and dragons but that's neither here nor there.

Yes. I am not joking article 7 sub section 10 of the Royal Charter of Britania details the whole thing an obscure law written in almost 13 hundred years ago. You see King Arthur Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before he pulled the sward from the stone was apparently turned into a squirrel by the wizard Merlin, or at least how the story goes. To make a long story short out once and future king, got a squirrel girlfriend, who Merlin transformed back into a human who would eventually be Arthur's consort, Hazzle the Red.

The current line of Britanian monarchs trace their line to Hazzle and apparently some where in the twelfth century they decide that meant the squirrels of Britania were Kin and therefor members of the royal family and people... just kinda forgot... well except for the sheriffs who have already arrested three MPs "For High Treason or inflammatory remarks on members of the royal family" in the past four years for bring the topic up. Those MP's have been released by royal pardon if your wondering.
