I don't have that much of a negative opinion about the old models but I definitly disagree.
The new model for example is imho pretty good and way better as the "old" sculps but it's the only model they'll get and it only improves the whole army by a little bit.

>>82984235
Lol it pales in comparison to the old heroes. Good hero sculpts were the one thing Fyreslayers never lacked and this new one looks like it's made by a completely different dude in a more cartoony style.
>>
My local game store still has the broken realms boxes in stock. Are the slaves to darkness (3x chariot) and Idoneth (2x allopex and akhelian king) worth picking up?

Truly, we lost a lot when they moved to dynamic warrior sculpts, powerful-looking knights and a lord riding a nasty chaos beast in the new box.

>Monopose
To be fair it's only a problem with horde units, where you can find yourself with 3 or more of the same dude.
Otherwise just need a few head/shield swap to make them look far less monopose than the actual multikit, which they all look very similar and static.

The only really shitty thing about the new ones is that they lack the musician and standardbearer, I'll give you that.
>>
>>82984423
>great savings on a whole load of kits you want multiples of
>squatted so you can buy a single monopose box you'll never want more of, have zero options and look out of place
>retards approve because they're flashier
>>
>>82984423
But Anon, every single soldier looking identical is soul and makes for a great painting experience. Except when Fyrslayer do it, cause they couldn't releas Vulkites in time tor ET and didn't redesign them hard enough
>>
>>82984288
Aren't all of those models still being sold, though?
>>
>>82984444
Fyreslayer's issue isn't that they look samey, but that they look ridiculous. Unbelievable, considering how kino WHF slayers were. Truly the lack of pants makes a huge difference, and the fact that they're mostly T-posing.
>>
>>82984444
Quads of truth.
>>
>>82984482
>Fyreslayer's issue isn't that they look samey
No, that's definitely a major issue.
>>
>>82984440
>great savings
Wow, super, instead of one set of overpriced plastic I can buy another for slightly less but still a lot.
>single monopose box you'll never want more of
Outside of *maybe* the lord there's no reason not to use the kits multiple times. Twist the heads by a bit and reposition an arm and you've got enough difference.
>retards approve because they're flashier
Well, if liking better-looking models with vastly superior sculpts makes me a retard then guilty as charged, I guess.
>>

I'm a blight boy myself but thats a really great sculpt for Fiends and it keeps the uniboob trail design aesthetic without losing anything when they updated the mini. You don't have to play slaanesh to appreciate that GW hasn't completely rolled back the garters and tits aesthetic.

>>
>>82984440
Anon, both boxes have savings on Knights and Warriors, which is the reason you're buying them (also because you can't get them alone, but...) so it's pointless to say one saves more than the other.

Until literally three weeks ago, for AoS' entire lifespan chariots were unplayable. You might want a couple sorcerers but by that logic you might want a couple Karkadrak lords too. The boxes are the same value for much better poses, unless you think two extra Chaos Warriors are somehow the dealbreaker.
>>

Specialist Games are a meme, right? No one actually spends the time to paint up all this shit just to never have his friends join him for a game
>>
>>82987196
Anon, do you have friends?
>>
>>82987196
Just in case you were wanting a serious answer, I've read/heard that the game is boring beer & pretzels fluff. If you're a fan of modern board gaming, the mechanics for this are painfully dull. Most people purchase the game, punch all the chits, build all the miniatures, think about how great a value it is, then sell the game in a year when they realize they own yet another OOP game that's worth more than what they paid for it.
>>
>>82987216
Not +-4 local people who can all show up at the same time to play some children's boardgame, no.
>>
>>82987247

>>
>>82987265
Only need 1(one) manchild opponent for that.
>>
>>82987196
I mean all of that stuff is perfectly playable in a SBGL or CoS army so it’s got they going for it. You have friends that meet up to play AoS but they wouldn’t be able to meet up to play a round or two of Cursed City?
>>
>>82987247
You can literally play it by yourself Anon. You don't need 4+ people.
>>
>>82987573
That's just sad
>>
>>82986727
There was never a problem with obr as an army. They're literally dead middle powerwise in aos 3 which is why the bitching is so annoying. If the bitching was at least focused on the shit scrolls it would be understandable but they just want their top tier faceroll lists from 2e back and are salty other people got new toys.
>>
>>82987657

>>
>>82987657
I literally picked up this army for 3e because I thought the sculpts were cool and I like tomb kings.

The army is good against the other lower tier armies, the stats are skewed because there's literally (was) one guy playing Nagash in petrifex (who went 4-1 more often that not) and that was recently nerfed right around Christmas, so the impact of the change hasn't really been reflected yet.

It's a 3-2 army at best and their mechanic is more frustrating than helpful. Mortek Guard probably need a nerf but in lieu of that like 20 other things need to be adjusted and compensated for it.

I've already picked up another army that is actually in the middle band and the difference with the generic CA's is night and day.

The only reason you see the disproportionate amount of "bitching" is because it's a fairly popular army and it does actually attract a lot of newer people. I really haven't seen much people advocate for a return to crawler spam, if anything they want archers and some new constructs.

3-2 is mid tier, the fact the army had a player doing well with a specific build shows the book has the potential to play against the high tiers, even if its limited. This points to the book being in a good spot powerwise, and while the army can't access the buffed generic commands it also mostly dodged the shitty changes 3e brought like new coherency. The real issue is just how busted the top tier stuff is right now.
People also seem to have a very bad understanding of what the low tier is actually like right now. The stuff down there like gits, boc, and khorne just literally do nothing. Entire armies of low save bodies with no output and bad support combined with barely functioning allegiance abilities.
When 3rd edition dropped the floor was ripped out from under the low tier armies. Those armies used to be able to play the objectives and try to grind out VP, but with 3e they just have no ability to score Battle tactics.
>>
>>82987657
It also kind of annoys me how much they beg for new units. They have the third most complete and well rounded roster of all the new AoS armies.
>>
>>82987943
Depends on if you're more attracted to the egyptian motif or the skeleton society who make war constructs, because OBR definitely fit the latter archetype.

Here's the last thing I painted, this is like my third mini ever though so I know I can't expect miracles. I was kind of going for the WC3 team colors look where there's a bright color highlight on the units, but I think the blue is a bit garish here at least with the current skin tone so I might just try the standard red next. This is fleshshade over rakarth, but I also have a kislev I could add to make it more saturated.

I think the main thing I need to work on is edge precision and figuring out how to apply the shades without so much pooling and splotching

This will never be real armor. It has no articulation, it has countless exposed points, it makes no practical sense. It is a performative costume twisted by poor artists and inept designers into a crude mockery of metallurgy’s perfection.

All the “validation” it gets is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock it. Its makers are disgusted and ashamed of it, its “fans” laugh at it behind closed doors.

Knights are utterly repulsed by it. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed knights to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even sets that “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a knight. Its pauldrons are a dead giveaway. And even if it manages to get a drunk gentleman to impulse-buy, he’ll turn tail and refund the second he gets a glimpse of its fauldless cuirass.

It will never be good. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight of the shitty armor you are wearing.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll try to bend over, fall, and be impaled by multiple weapons through the obvious gaps in your harness while you lay helpless. Your brothers-in-arms will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you in full regalia, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a retard is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a set of armor that is unmistakably shit.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

40k designers are more limited and it isn't even the setting's fault, it's GW not wanting radical changes to their flagship. AoS gus can just come to work and say "hay guys what if we do 180 on the orc design we had for decades?" and he will be allowed to do it. This just leads to 40k releases feeling less inspired cause the designers are on a lash

Fuck that is a good box, I like both the armies a lot as well but it doesn't give 2 1k point armies of new models.
The problem with Stormcast is the problem with AoS as a whole, it replaced fantasy and the narrative still uses the same characters so it is always compared to Fantasy which isn't a legacy its going to live up to in most peoples eyes. It doesn't help that the OG stormcast were chunky as fuck and made Warcraft armor look reasonable. If they released Thunderstrike as the first iteration I don't think they would be quite as hated.

I like the blue, I don't think the colors on this have any issue. In a mass of 60, the bright green eyes will stand out against the beige and blue nicely. Overall this is quite good.

When you apply the shade, it pools which is good to an extent, but the pools behave like drops of water and will dry in sort of that coffee stain pattern.

After the shades are applied, clean your brush off and get it mostly dry but not so much that it will "drink" your shades, and feather the edges of the pool outwards.

Additionally, I think you do not need to be so restrained on the cloth; the places where it's bunched up and raised, highlight with a nice azure.

I also glaze everything which relieves shades pooling but I think this is a clanrat (?) and therefore their charm will be in having 60 of them, so I would say any scheme these guys have will need to be done by layering.

I really like Feast of Bones, it had two strong and aesthetically pleasing NPC armies and the ogre half showcased a side of the Matribes you don't really see. Plus nice new sculpt, though not really needed for the Tyrant. I don't know if it was the best, but it had good value for armies that usually don't get attention.

1. Why does GW do this shit? They did they same fucking thing with the gutrippaz in Dominion; they're selling literal plastic in mass produced sprues at astronomical profit margins, hundreds of USD a box in some cases, and they don't even include all the options, or correct unit sizes despite, for whatever reason, refusing to go to a PPM system. I truly believe it's to fuck with autism, and I also truly believe the only reason they bother with paying a few pages of lip service to open play as a "way to play" is to avoid getting sued for false advertising.

The freeguild general is crammed onto a 120mm oval, which seems small. This is the right base size and the HE one fills it out pretty well.

That said, the high elf is a random generic lord, the other griffon is Karl Franz and Deathclaw. I'm not saying scale creep isn't real, but the big one is supposed to be the faction centerpiece.

>>82989610
>They did they same fucking thing with the gutrippaz in Dominion
That really is a weird one. Every other kit in the box is the whole package but gutrippaz just got fucked
My guess is that's it's purely to avoid the necron warrior thing where it's cheaper to just keep buying the cheapest 40k starter than buying the actual (same) kit
>well I could get this starter for more gutrippaz but I want the command squad...
>>

That was me, good stuff anon

I'm working on my own fluff for a fleet of undead pirates in service of a god of drowned dead, but I'm scared of the concept of balancing so I didn't bother making up any rule stuff
>>

Has anyone here actually played Cursed City?
Is it, fun?
>>
>>82991270
>So is this actual game fun?
If you're a pet faction like lumineth then sure, gitz? You're almost as weak as BoC
>>
>>82982837
Do you lads recon the fyreslayers half of the new box is worth buying? Or should I just get 2 of the start collecting?
>>
>>82991466
I thought it was fun enough to play with friends. It's not as good as serious board games made by companies that just make board games, but you get to push funny guys around the board and have them beat up skellies

I also like the rule stuff about the presence of civilians in the city, adds a layer that keeps it from just being dungeon crawl
>>
>>82991356
it was still value compared to the separate units retail.
>>
>>82991495
The main problem with the SC is it doesn't have hearthguard. People have been begging for a discount on those forever since you need to spam them in the army. You still need the SC though for the runefather and rumesmiter.
>>
>>82991516
Nice. Looking for something that's pretty quick and easy to play, hopefully use it to build a basic SBGL army and use those to try and encourage friends to get into AOS
>>
>>82991495
The half of the new box and a SC would serve you best.
>>
>>82991589
It was still a shitty starter set compared to actually useful starter sets not made by greedy retards.
>>
>>82991495

Half of the new box+Starter is the best way to get started. Gives you two boxes of Vulkites, 2 Boxes of HG, the Magmadroth, and the new hero. That's a solid starting force, vs 2 SC boxes which would just be two dragons and the same number of Vulkites.

It was mostly the sequitor unit that was fucked and, castigators and evocators either were oversized or had a cheap ETB kit to bolster units. Sequitors however were missing so much stuff you couldn’t just bolster it into a 2 5 man/ 1 10 man squad

Since 3rd edition launched. Several of us called it months before after seeing leaks of reboxed models no longer having the full warscrolls included and were called doomers, etc for pointing out the obvious.
>>
>here's this hueg box set with anything you need to play
>oh, and you actually need to buy a box of this, a box of that and a box of those to play
I retract my statement from above. People defending this behaviour boggles my mind more than the decisions behind launching an starter box with incomplete units.

>Is then then possible for the other chaos god and their forces to "bleed" into Slaneesh realm and powers.
Yes, it's what keeps Slaanesh powerful. While the other gods have fairly specific domains, Slaanesh has no limits in that sense.
Guy revelling in bloodshed? Khorne is the major focus but Slaanesh gets a cut from the pride the warrior has in their skills.
Powerful mage? Tzeench tempts with knowledge but Slaanesh feeds off the pure talent.
Nurgle is a bit more difficult, but there are people out there addicted to their depression and despair. Living content in squalor where disease and filth starts overtaking you is a form of hedonism in a sense.
As the other anon pointed out though, once you're deep into one of the gods there's no turning back. Your soul is forfeit, and no, Sigmar's hammer won't do shit despite what the hacks at geedubs tell you.

They're terrific. Maybe it's because I'm coming off OBR like an abused spouse but they're perfect. Lots of good lists that can go 4-1, maybe a couple hyper competitive ones, the mechanics flow and feel right. Nothing quite slaps like giving a pack of 20 graveguards vanhels and +1 attack and deleting your opponents 700 point piece.
>>
>>82992405
Obviously they saw the Dominion sales.

So, a unit of 10 Thralls (120pts, assuming no changes) do the following amount of wounds. First is assuming they're fighting 1W models; no buffs from anywhere just their profile.

>2+ 4.44
>3+ 6.67
>4+ 8.89
>5+ 11.11
>6+ 13.33
>No Save 13.33
So, assuming facing a fellow 5+ unit, that's 11 models they'll take out.

Now to do wounds if they were fighting 3W+ models.

>2+ 5.93
>3+ 8.89
>4+ 11.85
>5+ 14.82
>6+ 17.78
>No Save 17.78
That means against Annihilators they could take out nearly 2 on average. Against 2H Annihilators they'll take out nearly 3. Seeing as 3 Annihilators costs 200pts, that isn't bad at all.

Now I can't remember what potential buffs you could cast on them as I don't play IDK and only have their 1.0 tome, so yeah.
>>
>>82992894
You could stack +1 to hit, reroll hits of 1, and exploding 6's if you had 2 of the new hero.

I know IDK have been broken forever (they might not be "top" tier at the moment, but their winrates against mid-tier and low-tier armies is criminally high) but this continues the trend of elves being broken
>>
>>82992674
He didn’t read about the time he raped the four most powerful greater demons of the gods one v one and then five on one when Archibald United them
>>
>>82992932
Lemme check then. By exploding 6's I assume you mean 'do MW on a 6'? So, assuming +1 to hit and re-rolls of 1 to hit, against 1W.

2+ 6.48
3+ 9.73
4+ 12.97
5+ 16.21
6+ 19.45
No Save 19.45
Plus 5 (on average) Mortal Wounds (if that is what Exploding 6's does). Means they'll do 21W on average to fellow paper towels.

If we do the same but against 3W+.

2+ 8.64
3+ 12.96
4+ 17.28
5+ 21.60
6+ 25.92
No Save 25.92
With on average 3 MW's from exploding 6's. So 11W against Annihilators would remove two and leave the final one on 1W. Against 2H version they would wipe them.
>>
>>82993014
exploding 6s is when a hit roll of 6 counts as 2 hits.
>>
>>82993048
Ah. Okay my bad. So against 1W:

>2+ 7.56
>3+ 11.35
>4+ 15.13
>5+ 18.91
>6+ 22.69
>No Save 22.69

Against 3W+

>2+ 9.94
>3+ 14.91
>4+ 19.88
>5+ 24.85
>6+ 29.82
>No Save 29.82

The edition has just started and we've got to do the mega updates for two factions in 40k before we get anything first. Also why do you want grimderp? It's already pretty grimderp. GW has specifically said that 40k is 'set 5 mins to midnight' whilst AoS is 'set 5 mins after midnight'. As in, 40k is doom and gloom heading to the end whilst AoS has past the end and going on into potentially positive future. But we don't know.

All we know - major plot point wise - is that Belacuck made the Cursed Skies, that nobody could clear than (slann tried but couldn't iirc, watch Teclis do it without trying... or Malerion who knows) and all this shit prompted Grungni to come back and make the Thunderstrike Stormcast so they could power through it. Grungni prevented Morathi getting yeeted by Celestant Prime (Kroak buggered off after the fight so bit weird he didn't hang around to give his view) and she was left to keep her city after she helped save Excelsis. She grabbed some powerful rare elf souls (hinted to be like Volturnos, original IDK souls iirc) and gave them to IDK to stop them attacking. Belacuck blew up a powerful Old One buidling, fucking the Seraphon. Seraphon blew up a Silver Tower. Kragnos is reeeing over being tricked and killing Chaos stuff. Gordrakk we don't know, he left after Kroak fucked his godbeast skull up. Teclis is expanding shit (and doing grimderp stuff to some CoS citizens). OBR are fortifying their shit due to LRL. They have a foothold in Eight Points. Chaos is doing what it normally does; Nurgle got fucked by Alarielle's mega spell (that regrew the Oak from WHFB) so is fighting back as best he can. Slaanesh gave birth to the two daemons which should be powerful but aren't and Exalted (sorry, Soulfeaster) KoS are more powerful it seems, dumbly. Khorne is Khorne. Tzeentch is reeeing his Silver Tower got blown up by Seraphon. Ogres I think are going to a big fight between two Ogre forces? Goblins are being Goblins, no idea what exactly. ,
>>
>>82994274
I liked it
>>
>>82994490
>Nurgle got fucked
didn’t it also power his forces
>>
>>82994356
Path to Glory had an outpost system that has no rules as the book says the rules will come out in realm themed path to glory expansion books. There hasn’t been a single mention of what those are in half a year
>>
>>82994490
Fyreslayers, KO and Dispossessed are being united by Grombrindal (who Grungni created to do just that) we have no idea if this means a soup/united tome or it's just some shite that GW can pull out its arse if it needs to at a later date. Skaven I don't know if they]'re up to anything major atm, but probably are. Not read their latest tome so no idea their fluff points/plot points. Stormcast trying to clear Cursed Skies and fix Reforging flaws. CoS I don't know, GW is weird with them (other then Excelsis b eing in trouble and the DoK captured one). BoC aren't doing anything specific afaik..But next months WD might change that. Nefereta and Mannfred are fighting each other and Nef tricked some Dawnbringer Crusdes to fuck Mannfred over. Arkhan is still in the void. Nagash is dead. Vhordihai is trying to find a cure for the thirst. Katakros is defending the fort in Eight Points and against Teclis. Lady Oylander helped Belacuck. That leaves SoB who aren't really doing anything unique afaik.

There, that's roughly the plot points set up for 3rd.

>>82994511
Afaik it was too pure and basically fucked them and cleansed loads of Nurgle infected places back to what it should be (and in some cases, better). But a lot of places in Ghyran are so infused with Nurgle they resisted, like the Reality Sores. Nurgle will bounce back because he loves corrupting life into his twisted form, so I think the idea was that Alarielle basically buffed her shit heavily so they could cleanse more stuff, Nurgle has waned but he always grows back up (he has the lowest lows but the highest highs of the Chaos Gods because of this). I'm more interested in the Oak of Ages Past or whatever it's called being back and apparently Alarielle's capital. Bring back Kurnoth and Orion and Ariel (yes I know she is part of Alarielle now), Or make a butterfly unit for sylvaneth. Sadly unlikely, they'll stick to sprites. Bring back Wood Elves for that then....
>>
>>82994573
>bring back wood elves
Unless the dark stalkers Beastmen finish genociding them first
>>
>>82992894
Reach on these guys is dumb with the deepstrike guy existing, for how cheap they are. They finally caved to the complainers, god forbid elves have an average unit.
>>
>>82994698
They were pretty sucky before hand because of that lack of reach, but now they are pretty beastly. Especially since MSU is the goal now in AoS due to le reinforcement memes. Fuck that.
>>
>>82994736
Everyone has shit units without reach in their books. I didn't see them giving it to ardboys or the 20 stormcast units that wanted it.
>>
>>82994767
They should do that
>>
>>82994767
I guess because they are pretty weak they justified that? 5+ isn't great. They can be whittled down easily enough.
>>
>>82994920
Who cares about whittling them down, they're a braindead damage bomb to just deepstrike and send into your monster with +3 charge and then they hit like graveguard. Their numbers with aoa and thrallmaster for a 20 block are absurd for 240.
>>
>>82994974
I guess, but I am not au fait with IDK rules. You know more than me. At least they got buffed. I look at Seraphon units and wonder what is going on. They're so different from their WHFB counterparts. Oh well. Perhaps GW will buff AoS stuff across the board like they're doing with 40k.
