Spiky Aelves reporting
After 10 months without painting easing myself in with Arbites project, hounds and servo skulls, aiming for the colourful 90's vibe. Thought's?
What can I do to make the nose seem narrower?
>>82311399Other guy is right, do it like women do with make up darken the sides and lighten the front. Don't go overboard tho
>>82311413>>82311434I'll glaze the sides very lightly with some darker flesh tone then, thanks.
>>82311211did a few more details today, lot of tidy up still to do>>82311267nice doggers
Trying to make terrain but i'm awful at it
>>82312053Needs more gubbins. Way way more gubbins. Windows, doors, lights, pipes, wiring, vents, etc. Also don't know what's going on with the roof, so I can't comment on that bit.
What are your favourite gold, silver and iron/steel-ish metallic paints? Also spare any advice for how to paint things in a way to make them seem holy? (eg radiant sword, gleaming shining armour, angel as fuck)
Bought a box of these to be my militarum tempestus because fuck GW and now i'm trying to think of how to paint them. On the left is how i paint my guardsmen.Should i go with a completely new scheme or stick to my army's main colors?
>>82312187Stick to the army scheme, anon. You'll probably be mixing your Cadians with those proxy units anyways. Also what paints did you use for the Cadian guardsman's face?
>>82311659solid work my man! I like it!Finished my last reinforcements for my Feudal Guard yesterday
>>82312332These look lovely, got a brake down of minis used?
>>82312332Awesome guard, just got my first 10 man squad of feudal off the photon printer. Im guessing you used empire bits on yours? Or are these not makers cult?
AHHHHH ITS HERE
Finished a proof of concept autumn base for a marine army. Probably limit the flowers on the next ones to some combination of red, white, or yellow and leave (heh) the orange for the leaves.
>>82312733nice, Im starting to worry I'll get ghosted at this rate
Bought a rhino caked in gs, house paint and plaster a while back for about 2 bucks. After some time in the thinner I was able clean up some of the gunk but a lot of it had been gluecaked/melted beyond what I wanted to deal with so I raided my bits box for replacement parts here and there which is why its an unholy mix of old and new rhino parts. Some anon on here suggested that I make it into an oblitetator infected tank and I had some ugly marks to cover up so I tried it. Not quite done yet but I feel like I atleast improved on what I started with. What do you think?
>>82312816What it looked like before.
>>82312209Just ceramite white and a 50/50 mix of medium and agrax earthshade.
>>82312366>>82312683These are fully printed. a mix of makers cult and reptilian. I have used fantasy empire Landsknecht troops for most of the rest of the army.
>>82312366>>82312868Have to correct myself. 3 of the helmets are original skitarii helmets. When I first started the project I did not have a printer and bashed everything together from skitarii and fantasy bits.
>>82312816>>82312826that's a pretty solid salvage!
Reposting from /hhg/. I'l probably paint the base as sandstone, the gunmetal armour contrasts well with desert terrain.
I'm just about to start on my first ever banner. It's a tempestus scion command squad banner and it's already primed and attached to the model. What can I do to make it look not ass?
How difficult do you think it would be to convert mechancus serbrys raiders i to kreig calvary? Considering this instead of FW.
>>82311267Captain done, happy with how the 90's theme came out.
>>82313069Assuming you haven't seen these videos please watch them first.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcc8BKY911ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ja7HiAnZGgIf I had to be honest I'd measure the "painting area" of the banner and then use a ruler to draw the boundary lines of the painting space on the banner on paper first and practice until you have a clear idea of what the banner should look like. Then after that try to settle on the colours so that you have the clearest vision of how you want the colour to look like.Of course this applies in general to painting miniatures but try to brace your hands to be as still as possible when painting the banners. Its probably going to feel like painting the eyes because the eye details being delicate and the banner freehand painting will require your hands to be held as still as possible.Good luck, anon!
>>82312127For my metallic stuff I mostly use Scale75's Black, Thrash, and Heavy Metals, and Citadel's "Iron Warriors".>gleaming shining armouruse a gloss wash; it makes a huge difference
>>82312816>>82312826You actually turned a piece of trash into a traitor's treasure with that!I like the human heads and some of the limbs sticking out of the meat area. What colours did you use for the flesh and the dark metal, anon? I like them.having heard a friend talk about the contents of the Dead Sun Black Sky novel that had the cursed Daemonculaba in it I can say that the flesh covered tank is rather fitting. Though the Iron Warriors really shine when they are mostly industrialized space marine renegades with a hint of chaos aesthetics thrown in.
>>82313095Very difficult. And not worth it, the robot horses just won't look right with stats of real rough rider ones.
>>82313207Thanks, the flesh is 50/50 magos purple and gullimans flesh contrast paint over corax white. The metal is AP platemail washed with wyldwood mixed with contrast medium, several thin layers depending on how dirty and worn I wantee the area to be. Then edge highligt runefang steel

how do you paint worn cloth? I tried to do the highlights here as a series of lines instead of just a smooth edge but I'm not sure if that's the way to go
Finished my squigriding grot, pretty satisfied with the results. Painting this dude made me enthusiastic about painting my ork commandos soon.
>>82314174And the backside with another vandalised krieg trophy
>>82314174jesus those are some fine checkers. looking good
>>82314233Thanks anon! Just kinda went back and forth with white and black on the checkers. Also wanted to make it look like the grot painted them himself as if he is imitating actual ORKS
>>82311211How long can you leave pewter minis in acetone? Asking for a friend, h-haha>>82312777I'm on the other end of this. Tracking number said my recipient got mine on the 18th and I haven't seen anything about it yet
I really love the way warhammer grots scale with 1/35 diorama
Happy accident. Spray zenithaled in cold weather, got a greasy splotchy mess with black shadows and white highlights. Gives it a Borderlands look
Reposting this as last thread I posted at the very end of the thread's life.DP from Madrid, the wooden box is finished and I've filled it with sweets, paints and basing materials. I'm gonna send it tomorrow. Hope it arrives safe and sound.
Fixed up this guy after I decided I wasn't happy with him. Actually had to strip the paint off. Smoothed up some surfaces and lengthened the torso to more accurate. His legs are a little too long, I'm not sure I have the heart to reduce them. I also added a nice detail to the chest left of the eye, replacing the purity seal that sat there before.
>>82314895He looks too lanky now.
I also took the opportunity to finally take some good pictures of my favorite one so far.
>>82314895Yeh this guy has been a wild ride of never looking quite right. He has been the experimental one for the longest time. I made his legs waay too long when I was first going at it. Then when I adjusted his leg position to be more of walking upright he got way to tall. I shortened his torso then he looked like a scrunched pug. Lengthened the torso by 30mil this afternoon and Im happy with that part. I cant remember if there are pins in the thighs and I dont want to damage my razor saw. I might look for a heavier duty one tomorrow. This is an old picture, see the legs on the left guy and the torso on the right guy? Those are the parts. I have deconstructed this model like 3 times now, even sawed him bisectionally the other week to fix a bad tilt in the chest plate that makes the helmet (right on this picture) kinda look like he sucking in his neck like a turtle. Thanks for the feedback btw.
>>82314915>>82315002sorry cross replied.
>>82314895>>82314920i like the idea of your stuff and you put a lot of effort in but you need to consider what the dude under the armor looks like. armor makes your covered areas wider, and space marine armor is even thicker than anything irl so that will be even more prominent. look at some images of police in full riot gear, that stuff has some heavy padding to it that could help you get an idea of what i mean. also EOD bomb disposal armor, but that stuff is not useful for looking at body proportions
>>82315022Do you think the chest/torso armour is too slender? I looked at the EOD pictures like you suggested, the main thing I got from that was that the bulk of the central portion makes the limbs look shorter. I don't think Im ever going to alter the arms on the terminators, but I am working on how to make thicker legs as its certainly a week point on the models. The t4 has noticeably thicker legs than the t3 in those pictures.
>>82314657That looks great anon. But does the zenithol actually show through after painting over it?
>putting a dot of white to finish off a gem, finishing a model
>>82313892GREVEHOLM REFERENS JAAAAAAAAAAA FÖR FAN
I tried recasting a barrel with bluestuff/oyumaru and fucked it up. Had mixed results with finer bits too.Anyone know of a detailed tutorial that can help me avoid scrapping every other batch? My bases already have enough bitz
I've been thinking of kitbashing some kind of plauge marine. Now it's just blu-tack, but I'll sculpt half the body to give it some consistency. Maybe I'll low the combat fist too, so it doesn't look too tiny. What do you guys think? Would you change something?
>>82315289>starting fresh on a new model and slapping on a basecoat not worrying about details yet
NMM is kinda fun when you start getting a feel for it. Man is it tedious though, tricky too. I got a hang of gold just using paints I already had, Cavalry brown + flashgitz yellow + wraithbone
>>82315809my eternal pain with painting is in the base layer, accidentally paint another area -> fixing the error and accidentally painting the first area with another colour -> repeat
Been working on an ancient horrible finecast bullshit model. It's slowly getting where I want it to.
>>82315760Looks like a great kitbash. My only criticism is that the legs might look a little big compared to the rest of the fig.
Bottle says "minimum room temperature 8ºC"Think I can undercoat outside when it's 7ºC?I'm just now realizing this is the last time to do it before winter
>>82314370>How long can you leave pewter minis in acetone? Asking for a friend, h-hahaEssentially forever. It doesn't work well to start the electrolytic reactions that lead to corrosion. The worst that generally happens is paints that have a dye rather than a pigment in them (especially copper-based pigments like Phtalho Blue and Green) will stain the surface of the model pretty strongly.
>>82316285Rattlecans?Leave it to heat up for 10-15 minutes in warmish water. Keep the models inside. Go outside, quickly prime them, bring them inside and leave it to cure in a well ventilated room.Rattclecan primers are tricky like that, especially white ones, but it is doable.
>>82316134never liked this mini, but you did a really good job
>>82316311>Rattlecans?YesThanks a lot
>>82316318Thanks. It still has a long way to go. The skintone is now right, but I still need to highlight all the scales on the body, do all the boney bits and add some final touches to the wings, because it's a fairly slapdash blend at the moment. It's been fun to just paint a model without a plan in mind and see where it'd take me.
All the flying stand alternatives I've seen are for minis with feet like pic related. Any suggestions for a flying stand alternative for a helicopter?
>>82316124I like the wings anon.
>>82316354Thanks. It's still unfinished, but I wanted a basic layout to see if the colour balance would turn out right.I took the largest brush I have and wetblended from dark brown to an ivory. I'll probably spend some time glazing some sepia tones back in and properly shade the folds eventually.
>>82316345GW used to do a lot of stuff with flying stands like pic related. They're fairly big though. What size fig are we talking?
>>82316124Beastmen on square baseYou have good taste anon
>>82312053Using regular polystyrene is always a bit tricky, since you got the entire bubble texture going. I think the basis is right, but you might want to thing about adding greebling and details. Some particular things you could try:- you could use spackle to cover over the outside. This could help reduce the polystyrene texture, as well as making it easier to add other detailing on it. It *should* stick relatively ok on its own, and you can sand it down later to make it smoother- Bullet holes, tears etc etc in the walls- Windows, as another anon suggested, or maybe slights through which people inside could feasibly fire a gun.As for the paintjob: it currently feels a bit flat. Normally I'd suggest drybrushing a lot for buildings, because it adds lots of incidental details and chalky/dustiness, which is fairly realistic for buildings. However, that'd most likely over-emphasize the styrofoam texture here, which you might not want.
>>82316434Cheers. I'm just awaiting the return of proper warhammer fantasy. Tried AOS and hated it.Attached: WIP test piece for my rat ogres
>>82316499And a Skaven warlord on a rat ogre mount that I'm in the process of kitbashing.
>>82316505Im sorry but that looks ridiculous with such a small rat ogre.
>>82316499>I'm just awaiting the return of proper warhammer fantasy. Tried AOS and hated it.Try T9A if there are players near you. It's basically a community warhammer fantasy with major improvements.I really like it, I don't think TOW will be better
>>82314370One or both of these might be me, the stuff I ordered took bloody ages to arrive so this weekend is the earliest I'll be able to ship it. It is all there now at least. The person who sent mine mentioned their own and my address several times in the letter and I still need to remove them before I can post.
>>82316510Interesting. I didn't consider that. The thing on its back is about the same size as the rat ogre itself, which was the smallest I could make it while still having it be big enough to have interesting detail and also fir the warlord with its ridiculoursly wide stance. You might be right though. I might consider trying to bulk up the ogre a bit. I need to still figure out how the thing's gonna be attached to the ogre anyhow.
>>82316391Small, it's a 10mm helicopter. I don't want a flying stand is the whole point.
>>82316634>I don't want a flying stand is the whole point.Heavy-gauge brass or steel wires. I use rods for clothes hangars. Paint it black and move on.
Painting bright colours can be fun sometimes
>>82316703Well that'd be easy but I was hoping for a more scenic option.
>>82316732What do you mean 'sometimes'.Its always fun.
>>82316536It's quite shit to be honest. The community that run it is same people who killed WHF in my country so no one plays with them.
>>82316345Transmission tower maybe?
What metallics/technical paints should I buy?I've heard green stuff world does really nice metallic pigments.
>>82316974My go to metallics are Vallejo Air. Great coverage, smooth application, and the pigment is much smaller, so it looks much less flaky than, for example, GW.I recently bought some AK interactive crackle medium, but I've yet to test it out, so I can't comment on it yet.
>>82316949Looks complicated, how am I going to get it make one of those?
>>82312777I feel this , but im more concerned about my guy thinking he's been ghosted Kronberg Anon , your stuff will be sorted ASAP , just waiting on LGS order to come in
>>82317005>looks complicated>it's literally a pole with a few strings>and a smol dishgo to the local hobby store, grab $10 worth of kitbashing supplies (plastic rods, 0.2 wire, plasticard sheet) and you can make dozens of them, scores evenattach the heli skids to the pole and presto
>>82316990What does crackle medium have to do with metallics, anon.
Ohio anon. i have sent out your Christmas parcel today. stupid USA do not allow any cheap way to ship stuff so I had to pay 50 bucks just for shipping.still worth it and I hope you will like your gift.
>>82317038You said metallics/technical paints. Crackle counts as technical paints.
>>82317046Im NTA, my brain completely ignored the 'technical' part. Not an actual 'technical' paint but I love AK effects, specially the muddy ground.
>>82317034The pole needs to be the right thickness for the scale which is a pain, and the same with the dish which is even worse. The wires and paint are fine. The other issue is the pole needs to be strong enough to support the helicopter, which is very heavy.
>>82316809Shame.Here there are many players (though nowhere near as many as 40k/aos).I really like the game, and it's really well balanced (like no GW ever will, since they use poor balance to boost sales).
Finland Anon,Last pieces have arrived (finally). Going to pick them up and tape up the box on Saturday, shipping it out on Monday.Santa will get the tracking code.
It's Thanksgiving Anons! What minis are you thankful for?
>>82317305>It's Thanksgiving Anons! What minis are you thankful for?Is this a trick question?
>>82317226T9A has shite balance however overall. It's just really bad base for a game and it feels balanced usually only to people who never played games that are different. So I myself just go off to play other scales for that itch.
>>82317040>tfw shipping is going to run me $80 for a small box If this things get damaged at all I'm suing.
Trying to convert my christmas grot into a freebooter pirate grot. I'm clumsy and awful but I generally have an idea of what I want>santa hat removed to be replaced with sculpted pirate hat (possibly snip further down I'm not sold on keeping the fur and star trim)>the antlers on the squig need cut off and replaced with a ship's steering wheel (leftover sprue parts will be the spokes of the wheel)>the festive candle will be a red cartoony dynamite stick with "TNT" written on it>the chrismas ornaments can just be turned into pineapple grenades>the wire can just be barbed wire with enough pointy bits added to itLike I said it looks like shit but am taking a break because I'm tired. If there's a secret to greenstuff sculpting or a conversion idea that would help I'd definitely be grateful for it.
The front looks too tall and is kind of pope-hat-ish in shape so I'm leaning towards cutting his head down further.
I was considering giving him a peg leg but I kind of really like the boots. Original sculpt for reference also.
What are some non GW model ranges that are fun to paint?
>>82317033Thanks my dude.

Can you mix inks similarly to paints in order to create colors you don't own?
>>82318655No, that is impossible.
>>82318026I've bought from them before (before they redid most of their range) and the casting quality was pretty good. Had a tiny bubble here and there, but nothing that would make me regret the purchase. A million times better than GW and FW resin in any case.
>>82318655try it and find out
HAHAHA YES. YES.MORE AK STUFF.
>>82318655it creates mustard gas.Yes of course you can. You want to mix acrylic inks with other acrylic inks and paints though and not use alcohol based paints/inks
Been a major /wip/ lurker for the past year or so recently I've seen alot of people updating people on their armies over multiple threads so here's a Red Corsair kill team I've been working on. I wanna make a full army of them eventually since I have an entire chaos box set unpainted.
>>82318914The biggest issue I've faced actually is basing them. I've spent like 2 weeks just making different bases and not liking them then after I finally got one I like the Vallhallan Blizzard is drying fucking green. Did some experimenting and it has something to do with the wash. Problem is even after like 3 days of letting the wash dry it still dries green and even after putting a varnish on it it still dries partly green. Does it with both nulin oil and army painter dark tone. It wouldn't be that big an issue because I could just not use wash on the base but I wanna have the models themselves dusted with snow and they have alot of wash on them too. Anyone know what I could do about this?
>>82318902Thanks you've saved me some purchases.
>>82318900fool! because of you I bought some brush on primer and some paints. they better be good or I'll hold you accountable
Having some fun working on these mossy bases
Not having all my tools on hand is starting to get to me. I can't finish this thing, but at least I managed to do some rivet work on the head.
>>82319163those are nice & crisp Anon whats going to go on them ?
>>82319236Thanks, they're for my Gloomspite Gitz
>>82317305>What minis are you thankful for?My Fallout mini's for revitalizing my urge to paint. I love these things, and since I got them I broke a year long streak of wallowing in shit and accomplishing nothing. Since then I've finished numerous projects.
>>82316752>Well that'd be easy but I was hoping for a more scenic option. At a certain point you have to sacrifice the scenic option for durability. A slender, black metal rod on its own, with a few bushes or a flattened static grass pattern on the base, is WAY less-obtrusive than tying to hide the wire with a tree or something. It also makes the base less-likely to catch on or interfere with terrain.
>>82318655yes, i painted the sons of medusa Johnny from the collage by adding more and more yellow ink to my green ink for the highlights
>>82317305the slaughterpriest with two one handed weapons from warhammer, own two of those

>>82319157Which paints did you buy?
>>82320530Some kind of off-white. Ice yellow or something like that.I also love cold reds.
>>82320674Got some grey primer, some intense purple I don't have, some ivory because I had no luck with vallejo's and two shades dark blue for some future test schemes
>>82320795>some ivory because I had no luck with vallejo'sWhats wrong with vallejo's Ivory?
>>82317794If you find a nice bunch of bits to scrounge a model together with, please let a brother know. I fucking love me some E.Y.E.
Does this vampire look like he's from the realm of beasts? I want him to look like he's wearing giant fossils. Also he's not as pale because giant monster blood is nutritious.I dont know if I got the idea conveyed on the mini.
>>82320829I got very very shitty coverage even after a good shaking sesh. I'm aware that off whites are tough to paint with, but even on light grey/white primer I can't get satisfactory coverage (I'm talking 6 or more layers). But I'm very new to the hobby and still a big retard around paints so this is just me being hopeful another pot will work better
I'm a rookie painter that wants to branch out of citadel stuff. I'm in need of a pristine white & slightly darker off-white as well as a nice bright metallic gold. Spare any recommendations as to brands or ranges to look into? I've lost faith in citadel as my Corax White has clogged up to the point where it's no longer usable and I wasn't even 3/4th into the pot. The gold-ish citadel metallics are rather ass too.
>>82320911I feel it
HH from Rzeszów, I'll try to sending your /ss/ tomorrow. I'll also send the track and trace to Santa afterwards. Should take 2-4 days to get to you. Merry Christmas.
>>82317305>What minis are you thankful for?I'm just thankful that such a hobby with a community exists in general. I get to level up from playing with plastic Legos to plastic miniatures. Currently in the process of practicing on some EM4 miniatures before I get into painting more expensive ones like Citadel recasts. Anyways I've washed some of the EM4 miniatures, I've heard that it is best to always wash miniatures even if they are hard plastic because sometimes washing the release agent is not part of the process. I've read that some miniature companies have release agent washing (probably automated) as part of the miniature production process, but I can't be sure what companies do that. What I'm really nervous about is washing metal miniatures. Because I don't want them to rust. Will using a tissue paper to quickly remove the water off of the miniatures will negate any chances of it rusting after washing before priming?
>>82320959The Vallejo Model Range is a goldmine for nice neutral tones. Highly recommended.

Just got some Instar paints in.First impressions since I haven't had time to properly try them out:>bottles are excellent it's very easy to measure drops and they come with an agitator>super super thin no need for water/medium>thinness means you'll need two layers minimum with light colors
Considering entering a competition at some point. Based on pic rel, am I beginner, intermediate or advanced? Serious question, I cannot see my own work objectively at all
>>82322716Also got green stuff world antique gold pigment.>that's a nice gold right there>expensive but will last you three lifetimes unless you paint nothing but stormcast eternals
>>82322751Beginner/Intermediate.The tattoos are too thick (maybe use a micropen), the eyes are too flat (use a micropen for the iris), so is the face. The muscles aremt defined enough, the horns are too patchy, and the metal of the axe too uniform. Its a great mini, better than most you'll see. But for a competition you'll see some crazy shit that will blow your mini out of the water. Depending on the scale of the competition, of course.
>>82312868one of the best armies ive seen in a long time, you have a really nice consistency>>82311659finished apothecary, got a bit lazy on the base but meh
>>82322943Thanks for the detailed feedback. If you dont mind, could you elaborate on the metal a bit? Its the part I like the most on this piece, it is a tmm gradient from black to really bright silver, incorporating some environmental light as well
>>82321419I can’t claim to be an old hand at metal minis, but in the last 8 years of working with them I’ve never had a problem with rust. A good scrub in soapy hot water followed by a good rinse in hot water followed by being left to dry on a paper towel seems to be just fine.
Question about brushes. How does the fullness of the belly affect the time it takes for the paint to dry on the tip of the brush? I've seen recommendations for brushes with full bellies because they hold more paint, but does it help with working with the very tip of the brush?
>>82323218Use some flow aid with your water to dilute the paint. That together with a big belly brush will solve your issue
>>82323278So the belly is at least part of the problem then? Because my current "higher quality" brushes are pretty skinny and don't have much spring to them. Kind of a pain when trying to do eyes and stuff.
>>82321333Kinda regret not signing up for /ss/ but I don't wanna put my address on the funny anime image board.

>>82323015Your model looks pretty nice but I dont like the colour of the base, would look better if it was darker I think.

This is the first miniature I've painted in a long time, and arguably the first miniature I've 'properly' painted. Quite fond of the fella and will give him a proper base over the weekend, along with picking up a drybrush paint so I can finish his chainmail and weapon. I want to give him purple eyes but I misplaced my red paint.I'll try and do more shading and highlighting on the next poxwalker I paint.
>>82324545Don't fall for the drybrush paint scam. Just get regular paints and drybrush those.
Just got this fucker. How should I convert him to make him look less boring and passive
>>82316505>>82316549I hated that asshole for writing our last book and making our Lord on a palanquin with such a tiny base to work with since GW couldn't be bothered to release a model..

YWNBASM. I really hate that model, compare it to any of the real apothecaries to see the difference. It just looks like whoever was designing it had no idea what he was doing. Even this conversion of mine is better, and I wasn't particularly in good form when building and painting it.

The "pistol" thing is just clown trash, too big and also impossible to operate, a glorified cattle hammer. The entire model is stupid, there's no good thing about cawltrannies.
>>82326582Also have another apothecary, also courtesy of yours truly. Finished last week. Btw, I wasn't replying to the paintjob, but to anon praising that unforgivable sculpt.
>>82326508Who pissed in your Cheerios? Sorry you don't like the sculpt, but that doesn't change that it was enjoyable to paint. There's little details that were fun to work on. Also, he fits in well with my other character models.

>>82327883Recasters. If you are too stupid for anything but individual original bits, you deserve the retard tax.
>>82327991I always liked to buy bits from sellers on ebay individually, but shipping from china and russia really is cheaper these days.

>>82328040>chinaInstant hard no, those have shitty resin, mould slips and bubbles.>RussiaThat's where mine is from, though for me getting it was as easy as a hour long subway trip and the chadcaster handing my minis over.
>>82328053I ordered a couple of times from Z and also one of those websites with an actual online store and the quality was good enough. But i'll look around a bit.
>>82328040>individual bits from ebaySounds like you enjoy overpaying and skipping on your bitz box. Bad hobbying habit, it's always useful to have a lot of spare parts to work with. Some of my projects were a result of digging through a bits bin, box or bag and having a moment of inspiration.
>>82328050Lol, no.Theres plenty of good paints out there, why the fuck would I risk paying for some mediocre paints when I know there are brands who are good already?Honestly I dont know whos the target audience for those paints besides Duncan fanboys.Everyone whos been painting for a while already has enough paints, and newbies are unlikely to know who Dunc is and are probably busy buying GW overpriced shit cause thats all they know and think its the best shit because 'its made by the dude who make the great minis'.

>>82328070I get your point. Still i would rather spend 5€ on a couple of specific bits from 3 different boxes than buying those 3 boxes for 30-40€ each, especially if its bits from mini ranges far away from those i actually collect. Last individual bits i ordered have been some arms from Primaris Reivers and some Blood Angels Terminator heads, both things i will never use an entire kit, because of loyalists + primaris. >>82328093Guess there is always a better recaster somewhere. Got a hint how to find this one?
>>82327036I was curious about the ones used by pete the wargamer as they looked fantastic during his videos but holy fuck that price. I don't think I'm willing to buy some clippers for the price of a box set.
>>82328071This more or less.Ducans paint might be great, or it might be some average stuff. If its great, reviews will show it, and i can still buy some pots of it if something i own runs empty. If his paint is just "good", there is no need to get it at all. Other brands are also "good". Besides those obvious reasons against buying something like paint blindly simply because the name of the brand is a hyped meme, the KS savings are not that great anyway. Its not like it makes a difference in the end if i pay 2, 2,50 or 3 for a pot of paint if i only ever buy 5 at most.
>>82328118Warp Master. Look it up on VK, he has a link to his site in the group.
>>82328050I'll stick with my Scale75 and War Colors. I like wet blending way too much. Two thin coats is good advice, but not the end-all of painting minis. Using paints unthinned is fine. You just need to know what you're doing.
>>82328422>War colorsHow do you feel about them?I was tempted to buy some but based on what I heard they're more suited for glazes and stuff than normal painting.
>>82327298Alright I get what you mean. There is actually a gradient on the sharp part too but its maybe not visible enough. Anyway, this and the tattoo line thickness are minor things and I am happy that the critique is on that level. Ill keep improving

>>82328472I only have the fours at the moment, so I can't critique the entire range, but in general I rather like them. They are gell based, so longer drying time, which makes them great for wet blending. High pigment density, which is always a plus, and they thin really well into glazes. They also taste a lot better than scale75.
>>82329083>you think you can do better of courseId never charge for my painting cos I have the self awareness to know my painting skills are no where near commission level

>>82329083Do you brush paint all the models? I feel like you could get an airbrush and get a higher contrast result more quickly.
Is the greenstuffworld compressor and airbrush ok for your first airbrush? It's at 120 euro shipped for both.
>>82329153I eat paint all the time while painting. Voiding the brush by mouth is way quicker than going to the paint water, swishing it and dabbing off excess moisture.
>>82329161I would never buy a compressor without an air tank.
>>82329161Starting out any airbrush is fine, because any airbrush is better than no airbrush. It's way better to fuck up shit with a 20-30 dollar airbrush than with a 200 dollar one. The only real requirement is that it's dual-action.
>>82329158Dont forget , tidy up the metal on the backpack
>>82329172Yes. It saves so much fucking noise.
>>82329172Ah thank you, I wasn't aware of the feature of storing the air to reduce run time.
>>82329191I bought a Fengda FD-186 (also sold under AS-186). It's Chinesium, but it works plenty fine. It gets a bit hot but not overly so IME.
>>82329208Looks to be the same price as the greenstuffworld one I was looking at. Might just order that. So sick of not being able to do zenithal or easy shadow colors or easy gradients or just consistent priming.
>>82329043That's disgusting. Either do a fair job for a fair price or don't do it at all.
>>82329208Thats THE generic compressor. Many brands just slap a sticker on it and up the price.
>>82329043You don't deserve even that money, fucking failure. When we find you, we'll wrench your shit-filled head right off. Didn't you get enough piss on your ass-eyed face last time?
>>82329079If you're genuine, no, you should pay the poor sod 40 quid for each model you ruined, not charge him anything. If you're trolling, which is far more likely, go fuck yourself with a hot iron and die in shit. We despise you either way.
>>82311267A bit more work on Arbites/Scout 90's theme force, riders are WIP. I am quite happy with how theme is coming together. Thoughts?
Regardless of how much you charge the model should be cleaned up at the very least. Cheap price = cheap paintjob, but it should still be a clean paintjob.I don't see the point in commissioning paintjobs myself. Half the fun is being creative and getting dirty with it yourself. If you're the type of tourny player that just wants to get it over with and play, then just prime your shit and slap a mandatory minimum of 3 colours on it and call it a day.
>>82329380Fucking love that idea if you're going to tabletop quality , id say your nailing it mate
Table top is my jam, Thank you.
Too much anger in the thread today.
Got some old Citadel paints in tiny pots. They come from old sets that came with 6 paints and 5 miniatures (see image). I'm pretty sure the numbers on the top can be used to identify these. The numbering scheme is consistent, i.e same colour = same number. I am confident on what three of them are:GW030 = Ultramarine Blue (now Altdorf Guard Blue)GW048 = Chaos Black (now Abaddon Black)GW051 = Skull White (now White Scar)The rest, however, are ambiguous. Has the meaning of these numbers ever been published anywhere?

Thinning metallics. Yes/no? Water or other medium?
>>82329692Is there science behind why this happens? Why is e.g blue so easy to get coverage with compared to white or yellow? Is it some wavelength bullshit?Genuine question.
>>82329870In part it's opacity of the paints, in part it's how much pigment's in them.Generally, all "pure" colours are very translucents. Pure blue, pure yellow, pure red, etc. The more you add white or black to them, the more opaque they become and the better they cover. Pure yellow is very translucents so covers badly. On the other hand: pigment density a strong factor in this, and generally yellow paints are less pigment dense, because yellow pigments are more expensive. You can see this very easily outside of miniature paints, where they allow different paints to have different prices, and yellows are often quite a bit more expensive.
>>82329907>yellow pigments are more expensiveThen why are bananas so cheap?
>>82329822Thin them a bit. But, honestly, mixing metallics with matt paint helps give it better coverage. Mix grey with silver, brown with gold, tan with brass, etc.
>>82329822Yes. Depends on what you want to achieve. Mixing in other mediums that aren't explicitly metal mediums will knock the shine out of them, which I wouldn't recommend for highlights.
