Such a nice and simple change makes a hell of a difference. God, I wish Lumineth would've turned out with slightly more sensible sculpts.

>>

>>
>>82312388
The arachnarok and ghorgon are both cheap too for the size of the model. In particular the arachnarok. It’s like 58 dollars or something and it’s a huge model that’s like 300 points in its best build
>>
In the concept stage of a Slaves To Darkness army

>Overall theme is "The Great Gatherer", Chaos as a scavanger, worshiped by the Corvus Cabal
>Leader will be the witch from the Godsworn Hunt riding on the back of the new Kruleboyz giant vulture, counts as sorcerer lord on manticore
>Will include Mournfangs, each with two Corvus Cabalists riding it double dash style, counts-as Varanguard
>Primary troops will be Chaos Warriors and a block of Corvus Cabal
>A Stonehorn with Corvus Cabalists will count as a Chaos Warshrine

Most of the fun in this hobby for me is converting, which is why I even consider projects like this. Buying the Slaves To Darkness and Beastclaw Raider start collectings from my FLGS on friday.

Only question is color schemes: I don't want to do just black armor on my Chaos Warriors, because that's pretty boring, so I'm considering them all having metallic red armor to contrast against the black while keeping in the theme and aesthetic.

Why the fuck do fyreslayers get a 4+ ward save on basic battleline that have 2 wounds and can run and charge across the board turn 1? Thats not a single unit either. Thats the entire army. An effective range of like 24 inches turn 1.

Hey so my store's having a $20% off Black Friday sale and I thought I'd have them hold the white Lumineth launch box for me to pick up then, so I'll be picking it up for around $160 after tax, which is what all of the plastic inside retails for. After I did this tho, I came to learn that the Army Book inside is apparently old/outdated. But I'm also oblivious as to how Battletomes work have read that it's still valid if I also pick up the Teclis book. I'm kind of confused.

It's taken me a long time to come around to AoS (long story, bitter WFB grog) and I thought I might be getting a neat deal on something cool but if the book is just entirely useless then I dunno where I'm at.
>>
>>82314217
Second book is the same shit with second wave warscrolls
>>
>>82314248
Okay, so it'll be valid for mydudes that I'm getting in the box. That's neat to hear; not what I'm used to coming from other GW games with complete overhauls each edition. Does this mean the neat cards I get in the launch box are still valid?
>>
>>82313748
That's only Vostarg and after they charge they can't do fucking anything. It's probably the worst of all the subfactions except maybe Lofnir.

Ghamak had plenty of coomer models (he's Italian, he can't help it). Bestiarum had daemonettes with their tits rocking out, but they aren't coomer models per se.
>>
>>82314277
>Does this mean the neat cards I get in the launch box are still valid?
I believe so. You can corroborate with the AoS app, it has all the war scrolls in the game. You could also compare with the newer book which can be found in the OP's mega
>>
I played my first game with skaven a couple of days ago, and they seem really fun. I don't think AoS is my WAAC game, so I can deal with the fact that they're not good when there are this many interesting decisions to make.
>>
>>82313748
Nobody runs that subfaction anyways so you don't have to worry about it

Also, the 4+ ward is conditional, kill the hero and they lose it. Most of their heroes have 5 wounds and no ward, sometimes they'll bring a drake that's a bit tougher, but unless your list lacks any ranged tech whatsoever you should have some options to take them out. If you don't, just try to speed bump the dwarfs with lines of chaff, but don't charge them, make them charge you or walk around you. Charging them just gives them a free pile in and combat phase to move and kill you

Both pretty versatile with multiple decent builds. Lumineth currently have THE 2 most toxic and hated units in the game with their archers and fox spirits, but everything else is mostly pretty balanced and fun. A lot to do in the hero phase, your turns can take a long time as you manage a million interactions and buffs. Otherwise pretty standard fantasy military with shield wall infantry, fast cav, some elite melee units, and some artillery and monsters. Fairly elite, probably between 50 to 70 models for a full list

Soulblight can range from hyper elite monster mash lists to literally flooding the field with 200 zombies and both are strong lists. They have arguably the best cavalry in the game with blood knights, they have some super strong force multiplier heroes like mannfred and radukar the beast, and some solid support like the corpse carts. They play less around their resurrection mechanics than they used to, but its still there. Unfortunately for a lot of people, skeletal units are most of the worst units in the book, with black knights being quite bad, a wight kind being hard to justify, graveguard being obscenely slow, and skeleton warriors being only situationally useful. In Almost all other situations, more zombies, wolves, and blood knights are the better play. There is also a coven that just goes all in on big fucking dragons and makes them nasty

Both are pretty good though and have wide rosters that are good for collectors
>>
>>82315995

>>
>>82316036
>Lumineth currently have THE 2 most toxic and hated units in the game with their archers and fox spirits
A single unit of each isn't bad, but if people skew their lists towards them it gets really painful. I honestly don't know how GW wants to balance them either without making them completely useless. I guess remove the spell of the sentinels and give their LOS shit the same stipulation that their artillery has to follow to the +1? From the Foxes remove the movement in the enemy shooting phase, I guess.

The archers could go up to 200 pts per 10 and still be worth taking 30 of them. They hard counter like 90% of the armies in the game except for a few God units and some monster armies, they are just too good at what they do and have zero counterplay apart from bringing heroes with 20 wounds that can't be insta killed and there are a lot of armies like nighthaunt that just can't muster any kind of answer to them. You can't hide behind terrain, they have board wide range, and they deal half their damage in mortals so they don't give a fuck about your armor save

I'm thinking of organizing a PtG/slow grow campaign and was thinking of some houserules to make it more interesting:
>Each player starts with a unit champion with +4 wounds and HERO keyword
>First game is a free for all dungeon where the players fight for resources and the main objective
>Each resource collected roll a die: 1-5 increase a characteristic (stats or weapons) on a 6 get to choose from the champion rewards table, max 2.
>Everyone gets a command trait and artefact after first game
>Second game everyone gets 1 unit and 1 followers reward to represent the loyal core of the warband
>After every other game everyone gets to add up to 250 points to their list, unspent points carry over. First unit is included in points cost
>Every other game, alternating with above, you get a stat increase/champion reward. Roll as before.
>Once players hit 750, 1250, 1750 they get an additional artefact. They can't stack effects like 6+ ward and 5+ ward becoming 4+. Only one weapon artefact allowed.
Just some preliminary ideas. Any suggestions?
>>
>>82316570

She gets played by herself most of the time anyway, she's strong and Spite Revenants are...blah.
>>
>>82316699
>Each player starts with a unit champion with +4 wounds and HERO keyword
No real thoughts but I miss when they sort of attitude was the norm. I got into AoS with a box of Stabbas and played games of skirmish, then low point AoS proper. I remember the rules saying that anyone could qualify as a general so it made sense.
Now I just see kids come into the lgs and get told 2k or bust.
>>

Sentinels and Foxes needed to be nerfed into oblivion.

I remembered playing a similar campaign as a kid in WHFB where everyone started as an elite unit champion. In my case it was bretonnian questing knight, and i had a lot of fun with it. The supplies we gathered added to a pool of points we got to use on magic items after the first mission. Throughout the campaign the character got stat upgrades to match Paladins and Lords. AoS works a lot differently so getting the same feel is finicky

I think your suggestions seem fun! I would look into the base building/casualties rules that the vanilla PtG offers tho. We started a campaign with the 3 of us and so far it has been a blast, legit the most fun I had in AoS so far, especially since the quest/basebuilding system really makes a game loss sting less, since they are good about giving you stuff either way. Pic related, its the 3 generals for our game, fighting for an enchanted vale somewhere in Ghyran. Well... the Lizards and Elves are fighting for that, the Greenskins just want a proper kerfuffle.
>>82316769
I honestly blame AoS fan coverage for it. You always see 2k pitched battle points and mostly the same lists. Try to get some good people and do some narrative stuff!

Will do, thanks for the heads up. I was thinking a campaign map with conquering territories and forging alliances would be a cool addition if i got enough players. Having 3 groups of 3 players facing each other would make interesting narratives especially if multiplayer games are a possibility. Making custom subfactions too. So many ideas, so little free time...

>I honestly blame AoS fan coverage
So true. If you look online you only see the most vehement tournament goers talking about things.
I think the game would be way better if they all stuck to tts or something.

Can someone help me list build with the new dragon models? They look pretty fun but I don't know how stormcast works and if it's worth taking the big wizard one for some casting or not. It looks like it'll be like 3 boxes of stormdrake either way

If it's different from every other gryph-hound shown then it's not a gryph-hound. Interspecies aggression is common in species so it's not like the Gryph-Hound would care if you butchered a Gryph-Charger in front of it or something.
Humans literally used trained wolves to hunt wolves. There's a difference in attitude through training. Even if it was a larger Gryph-Hound, it's not like it would be unusual for Gryph-Hounds to be used to hunt it and that's not even presuming that it's just an honoured tribute to his dead best friend or something.

The whole point of the discussion was "AoS armies", smartass. So no, fantasy doesn't factor into it.
Also you don't quite seem to grasp just how big of a difference there is between a regular squig and the giant one. Also go back and look at Kavalos and compare it to the deathriders. It's much larger and has 3 tails. It's different.

alright ill do an effortpost about this

facehammer (Byron & Russ) did an incredibly vapid and superficial review of the stormcast battletome when it first came out

months go by and they dont talk about stormcast at all since the first video. thats fine, they dont need to be passionate about every army right?

but now that drakes are coming out, they set up a stream to talk about a "oops all dragons" list where they try to cram as many dragons in as possible and also have a link to their store elementgames where you can preorder those dragons teehee :^)

at the start of the stream he claims to be a playtester and part of the reason why stormdrake guard went up in points because theyre too overpowered

it becomes obvious that they have no fucking idea what theyre talking about, they just fuck everything up throughout the stream
>dont know what changed with the menagerie command trait
>didnt know that cycle of the storm was erratad
>didnt know that lord-imperatant can only do his >7" scions on units with 3 or less wounds, thought he could do it with dragons
>his own stream chat is calling him out constantly
>it has become obvious that he hasnt even looked at the stormcast book after reading it live months ago
>he read through the allegiance abilities one at a time like he did zero prep for his own stream
>you can see the gears turning in his head as he argues with the chat
>his "oops all dragons" 10 dragon list eventually becomes 8 dragons
>his awesome dragon spam list is actually just Draconis and 4/2/2 drakes
>then he adds a relictor and cuts it down to 6

>knight draconis... i think having two of him is really good
>final thunderstrike gives the entire army a consistent source of high quality mortal wounds
>i dont see a reason why you would take karazai over the other one
when asked how he would fight gargants
>the 2 big dragons charging a gargant should delete it
>youve got 10 attacks with 3 damage, thats like 30 damage right there
>he had to look up if a single stormdrake counts as battleline if youve got a draconis
>You could run 6 of these dragons, and still make a billion different lists
>thunderous presence is good because hunters of the heartland doesnt stop it, and roar doesnt stop it... your opponent cant play around it
>final thunderstrike is quite nice because if you know you have a lot of damage coming in you can do damage back
>hammers of sigmar 6+ ward is pretty good yeah... hallowed knights dont do anything for you
>we dont want to use gardus because that would be a "mixed list"
>we should use tempest lords because the odds of one of your dice being a 5 or 6 is really really high
>I have not played much with the new stormcast book
>i think cycle of the storm has been nerfed, but i dont know what it is
>ive not had the opportunity to play them since the books come out
>if they didnt nerf the drakes they would have dominated the game
>ive seen the drakes used pre-nerf, and it made me worried about the future of warhammer
>the good thing about their points going up is that dropping a unit gives you a lot of points to play with
>bastian is great. even if youre not playing hammers
>The Celestant Prime is OBSCENELY good
>im not worried about giving up victory points because its only 1 per round
>its very unlikely
>if it was an issue gargants wouldnt be doing as well as they are
>gargants is a crapshoot anyway

Some prime GW balancing logic. Just like the whole 52 Damage Stonehorn thing where the chances of actually getting 52 damage are quite literally 1 in (Insert the amount of seconds elapsed since the beginning of the universe).

I hope GW doesn't nerf IJ, they are a fun straight-forward army with very few gimmicks.

GW rules department has never realized that a d6 roll isn't always 6. They price everything as if you're always rolling your best.
40k got it bad where all the blast weapons became d6 shots and needed to be updated to actually do 6 shots to hordes.

Last time I looked they preform better than skywardens in melee AND at ranged as long as they're fighting stuff with a 5+ save or better.

"Units can only be healed once per battle round"
>>
How does the logistics of deploying the sancrosant chambers work out? Aren’t the longer they’re dicking around the more stormcasts are fucked? It seems like whatever benefit they provide is outweighed by making sure your immortal soldiers don’t turn into extreme psychopaths by accident
>>
>>82320311
>>82320365
the problem isnt healing, the problem is save stacking on 3+ HERO MONSTERS with amulet of destiny

the solution is to change amulet of destiny to a 6+ Ward and their finest hour to a 6+ Ward
>>
What are we mad about now?
>>
>>82320365
Healing on daemon heroes is ridiculous
With 10Ld, if you dont oneshot them they can basically heal 2d3 in one round.
>>

Save stacking should just be removed imo
Just make it so you can get one source of +1 save, that's it. No more +1 mystic shield, +1 finest hour, +1 AoD then final total +/-1 from your base save tee hee
>>
>>82320540
Fucked up the last sentence, just +1 from your base save

>In order to speed these new creations on their way to the far-flung glades, Alarielle made a pact with the Spitemonarch to secure zephyrspites – winged creatures that would grant the Arch-Revenants the power of flight through symbiosis.

The Spitemonarch has his own court somewhere in Ghyran but is presumably also a seated member of Alarielle's Royal Moot, alongside other so-called "spitelords."

I got my first win in AoS today after my 7th game. I played Clan Moulder Skaven with 2 units of 4 Rat Ogors, 3 Master Moulders, a Hell-Pit, Thanquol, 1 unit of Stormfiends, the Warp-Lightning Vortex, and 7 units of Giant Rats. Played against Stormcast.

In short:
>his shooting really punished the poor positioning of my Master Moulders, he took 2 out in turn 2
>The Warp-Lightning Vortex absolutely decimated his backline shooting
>I took full-shooty Thanquol, who in 2 rounds of shooting against his Dracolines did 3/12 on 4+ for mortal wounds, then an impressive 1/8, then got charged by them, I failed I think 7/9 4+ saves, then didn't roll a single 5+ ward save, taking exactly 14 wounds, so he got one-shotted by 2 cats. The only good thing he did was set up the WLV
>the Hell-Pit also got obliterated in one combat activation with some bad rolling
>his Celestant-Prime absolutely whiffed against my Stormfiends, so they were locked together for half of the battle
>he failed almost every spell he attempted. I think 1 got through.
The game really came down to the bottom of turn 3 where he had his general on Dracoline, his 2 Dracolines which had just wiped out Thanquol, and 1 of his battleline guys trying to charge in to a unit of 3 Giant Rats sat on the objective. I redeployed to force a 9" charge, and he failed with all three. I then brought two more units of Giant Rats to sit on the point and screen him out and that was able to get me the win. He did manage to charge the rats but didn't manage to kill enough of them (bravery 3, 1 wound, no save) to outnumber me on the objective.

Conclusions:
>Stormfiends do not do enough damage to justify their points without Skryre buffs
>Bring more Rat Ogors instead and at least another Master Moulder
>Giant Rats at 40 points per are really good
>the Warp-Lightning Vortex is busted

I forgot to take pics, but I do have an action shot of the Rogres heading towards some fat guys.

Thanquols tricky to use, as are warpfire throwers in general, because they are less effective the more wounds the target has. If it's 1 or 2 wound infantry 8n squads of 10+ they are devastating, but against elite 5 or 3 man units or cavalry they are much worse and against single man units like heroes and monsters they are basically useless. Usually a good idea go 50/50 with thanquols weapons unless you are also sending a dedicated melee unit next to him like rat ogres or using him as 2nd rank support over lines of clanrats.

Sneaking a rating gun or two into your list can be a good way to provide some clutch firepower. They are great against single target and horde, and can do some wild spike damage. Also if you're worried about getting shot, throwing a cheeky warpgrinder into your lists gives you the option to keep something off the table to save it from a turn 1 alpha
>>
>>82323104

Agreed, it feels like Tyler is afraid to disagree with Vince (or just has no opinion) so it just becomes a 'Vince monologues for 2 hours' show

Trouble is, it's pure Moulder, so I can't take the Ratling gun. If I want shooting, I'm limited to taking Stormfiends, which I think next time I won't take because they are so expensive. I think this army's strength is in the Giant Rats; having so many tiny cheap throwaway units that can screen out an alpha strike and potentially score lots of points. That happened during the match; he dropped his big unit of dracoline down my flank but he was screened out totally. He could only drop in and kill some rats. The Rogres came in next turn and demolished them. If I wanted all of the options for Skaven, I'd have to take Clanrats, which do a similar job to Giant Rats, not quite the same, but it would be redundant to take two forms of chaff. Saying that, I will go for more Giant Rats next time. 10 units only cost 400 points. I can think of worse options for 400 points. Fun fact: they are the cheapest unit in AoS.

Taking full-guns Thanquol was a pre-match decision I just wanted to try out. 50/50 melee and shooty is definitely the best option. He did actually manage to incinerate an entire squad of his 5-man battleline unit so he wasn't entirely useless (actually he left one guy on one wound because Thanquol wasn't rolling well today, so I had to arcane bolt him next turn).
