Colle zukertort. Queen's gambit is less passive with a mix of both sharp and positional games possible depending on what black plays.

1 centipawn loss. Lowest I've ever had, obviously against a badly played meme opening.
>>
>>82309512
Yeah it's a club boomer favorite. The reason it doesn't show up in tournament games often, and isn't discussed much, is that it isn't among the absolute strongest choices. It's just completely fine good solid opening. The Toyota Corolla of chess openings.

>>
>>82310873
As a beginner shitter, I can confirm the Fried Liver is just an absolute bucket of fun. When they start playing Na5 I'll probably give it up since I don't like the look of the positions you get even if you defend it properly, but for now it's always a highlight when I get it.
>>
>>82310925
It's FIDE so maximum 40 bucks.
>>
>>82308725
Learn the modern, the ideas are simple and it's easy for white to get obliterated.
>>
Some really dumb blootz games today. Playing on phone work. Hang mate in one from a +12 position. Next game somebody a hundred points higher rated than me hangs queen out of the blue.
>>
My best game with the Caro so far. Reliable weapon against e4 and not too theory heavy like c5 or e5. A real beginner friendly opening.
https://lichess.org/d47XR9PK/black#0
>>
>>82312041
caro is pretty theory heavy but you won't face critical lines in the advance/classical for forever so it's fine for new players
Basically any opening where you focus more on ideas and plans instead of specific moves is good for newer players
>>
>opponent doesn't resign down a billion pieces
>resigns when i have mate in 1

>>
>>82312130
They always do this lol
Especially funny/annoying when it was a forced mate in 4 or something and they've only just noticed
>>
>>82312182
I agree it's annoying but I do this sometimes if I'm not certain my opponent will mate and as a 1700 I've had a few people stalemate

Something odd I've notice about chess.com. When I spectate games between 1600-1800 rated players, they genuinely don't look very different from 800-rated games. Maybe it's just my imagination but I see all kinds of stupid blunders that you don't see in 2000+ games.
>>
>>82312732
chess.com player performance is very inconsistent at a given rating compared to lichess from what I've seen

it's a total fucking mess because you can choose between 4 different starting ratings
there's random pools of rating up to like 800pts apart that play the exact same
>>
>>82312867
there's also some kind of temporary surge going on (which I'm a part of) because of the queen's gambit/twitch/quarantine
>>
>>82312889
Tbf, that was a long while ago at this point. I think anyone still playing is just a chess player and not part of a trend at this point.
>>
I just played a 1600 who didn't know how to mate with a rook. How? How you get that high without knowing that mate?
>>
>>82312867
>it's a total fucking mess because you can choose between 4 different starting ratings
>there's random pools of rating up to like 800pts apart that play the exact same
Correct. It's worthwhile to start a new account on com and select the top starting rating. 1200 I think? Speeds up the grind some as those players are not any better than the 1000s.

God, I came across some maximum autists today playing blitz.
The first guy who I didn't know and never played before messaged me during a game and asked me if I wanted to join his team. I assumed he was mass-spamming the message and ignored it, but then he sent another message saying "helloo?".
I wrote back "no" and then he said "why". "You're so strong" "You would really lift up the team"
I blocked him.

Then the next guy was a 2100 (rated 200 pts below me) and I matched with him and played him once. In the chat he said "say some" and took like 20 seconds to write that in a 3 min game. Then after I beat him he kept spamming rematches, again when I was in another game. So I blocked him too.

Bros, holy fuck I can’t fucking believe I spotted this queen sacrifice while having only 1 minute on the clock (my rival had 2.) Add to that that my king side was being completely raped by my rival, and you have here probably one of my best games ever (at least when it comes to not succumbing to my nerves.)

Winning this game felt almost as good as having sex. Ahhhhh I love chess
>>
Do you think it's rude to go for a more difficult mate if you're completely winning? I was up bishop pair and rook in endgame just now, decided to get the rook out of the way and do a two bishops as I hadn't practice it in a while. It only occurred to me after the game that that might have been annoying. I mean I don't have much sympathy for someone who doesn't resign at that point but still. And I wouldn't resign either because I like practising stalemate traps if I get the chance.
>>
>>82314240
yes absolutely
>>
>>82314235
Nice job, anon. That's the power of playing a lot of puzzles. You get quicker at spotting that stuff. Black's failure to play c5 pains me. Just cardinal divine rule of playing against the london is put c5 out there on move 2 or move 3 at the latest. Do it.
>>
>>82314292
Thanks, anon. And yeah, solving puzzles is definitely paying off for me. My opponent not being able to counter the London isn’t really surprising, it’s a 1100 elo blitz game after all. There, matches are not won by the person that makes the most brilliant moves, but by the person that manages to make the least number of blunders.

>>82314240

>>82321257
What do you want them to talk about - how the players must feel?
The lines were provided as justifications for why certain moves might be good or bad. Chess is a concrete game and Judit and Vlad broke down concrete ideas in a way that even a shitter can understand a good deal as long as he can follow notation.
>>
>>82321323
Because bad takes annoy me.
>>
>>82321331
chess is a concrete game but it doesn't mean they can't illustrate common concepts and underscore them or explain ideas of openings
but of course that's only done when teaching students who are paying them personally
that's why i prefer commentary from weaker gm's like maurice (without the engine) and jesse kraai, also yasser is pretty good when he's actually commenting and not being jen shahade's tampon

lines lines lines is just dumb and doesn't give me anything
>>
>>82321361
Anon, they explained their "lines lines lines". Besides, there's no way to show that something either does or doesn't work tactically without showing or describing lines.
>>
>>82321330
That's what everyone keeps telling me, but as usual I'm right and everyone else is wrong. I think he will because it sets a tone (I'm coming for blood) and will make Magnus wonder what else he might play, which will destabilize his prep. Also it would take Magnus into the sort of game that he hates and that favors Ian.
Also note that Ian just released a KG course on chessable. On the one hand you would think that he wouldn't release a course for an opening that he intends to play in the WC, but players release courses on their openings and still play them all the time (see So's e4). That's because the opening doesn't make the game, ie just because you know 25 moves of theory in the opening won't save you from the middle game. But more to the point, I doubt Ian would spend the amount of time it would take to do a Chessable course right before the WC on an opening that he doesn't intend to use... think about it.
>>
>>82321423
even if an idea doesn't concretely work it should be pointed out, lines and 'do things work' is secondary to ideas when teaching
if i want to do lines i'll just solve puzzles

i'm not saying there should be no lines, but there should be a bit of positional stuff too instead of
polgar goes
>white's better ok
kramnik goes
>yes i agree ok ok

without any explanation
and then they just go into lines and lines

woohoohoo this got more sharp than I wanted. Going for nice calm petrov vs the italian but I forgot a key move. After knight takes and knight takes the move is d5. Then white retreats the bishop and development continues. Instead I went for this. Apparently it's still even leaning winning for black aside from one mistake I made but not the kind of position I like to get in to so early in the game.

Sure, but if you don't fuck them, they'll fuck you, where people claim wins in losing positions just because my internet craps out. Its the same reason why I have takebacks disabled, I don't want to accept takebacks when others haven't accepted my takebacks for obvious misclicks (Kf1 instead of castling short). My issue with it is more that the buttons are close together and you could accidentally claim a draw instead of a win

Yes I recently picked up the Trompowsky for Nf6. Naturally I haven't seen 1. ..Nf6 in a while. Suddenly a lot of 1. ..g6 out of the blue because that's the rules of theory study. Marshall is great for white though and you're still going to get it with the d4 d5 c4 Nf6 move order.
