>>82308373>me in the yellow shirt
i tried playing blackmar deimer as well as some more caro and i lost 50+ rating (and every single game)does anyone have a cool looking black defense that i can lose more rating with but at least do it in style?
>>82308725just play e5 against e4 and d5 against d4don't play meme openings.
>>82309011>>82309042thanks anonsdo you have any good recommendations for a passive but positional white opening? >>82309072whenever i try that i end up in some italian game / giucco piano and dont know that moving X pawn makes me lose my mortgage in 15 turns
>>82309083>do you have any good recommendations for a passive but positional white opening?Colle zukertort. Queen's gambit is less passive with a mix of both sharp and positional games possible depending on what black plays.
holy shit I can't believe I got away with this lmao
>>82309479fuck I forgot to flip it
>>82309477>Colle zukertorthavent heart of the colle system before, will check it out thanks
tfw facing Nepo
tfw facing Magnus
1 centipawn loss. Lowest I've ever had, obviously against a badly played meme opening.
>>82309512Yeah it's a club boomer favorite. The reason it doesn't show up in tournament games often, and isn't discussed much, is that it isn't among the absolute strongest choices. It's just completely fine good solid opening. The Toyota Corolla of chess openings.
>>82308373is she playing a kia? lmao
>>82310202Good for her on trying it. It's lame to see every kid play the italian.
>>82310789the kids would always play 5. ... Nxd5 and you could always reply Nxf7 and then you'd get to feel like Morphy with your attack. don't see how that would be lame
Wonder how much it's worth
>1900 at lichess.org >I challenge me an 1879
>>82310873It's lame because the western scholastic approach is to teach kids the italian and nothing else. So many openings to choose from and they do this.
>>82309479>>82309491>>82309680without rating we cannot give an assessment and it is less fun
>>82310873As a beginner shitter, I can confirm the Fried Liver is just an absolute bucket of fun. When they start playing Na5 I'll probably give it up since I don't like the look of the positions you get even if you defend it properly, but for now it's always a highlight when I get it.
>>82310925It's FIDE so maximum 40 bucks.
>>82308725Learn the modern, the ideas are simple and it's easy for white to get obliterated.
Some really dumb blootz games today. Playing on phone work. Hang mate in one from a +12 position. Next game somebody a hundred points higher rated than me hangs queen out of the blue.
My best game with the Caro so far. Reliable weapon against e4 and not too theory heavy like c5 or e5. A real beginner friendly opening. https://lichess.org/d47XR9PK/black#0
>>82312041caro is pretty theory heavy but you won't face critical lines in the advance/classical for forever so it's fine for new playersBasically any opening where you focus more on ideas and plans instead of specific moves is good for newer players
>opponent doesn't resign down a billion pieces>resigns when i have mate in 1fuck u
>>82312130They always do this lolEspecially funny/annoying when it was a forced mate in 4 or something and they've only just noticed
>>82312182I agree it's annoying but I do this sometimes if I'm not certain my opponent will mate and as a 1700 I've had a few people stalemate
Whereas the The Danish Gambit Shitters have formally declared war against the Glorious State of e5: Therefore be it "Resolved, etc., That the state of war between the Danish Gambit Shitters and the Glorious State of e5 which has thus been thrust upon the Glorious State of e5 is hereby formally declared; and the generals of e5 are hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire theoretical Book and the resources of Stockfish to carry on war against the Danish Gambit Shitters; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the Glorious State of e5 are hereby pledged
>>82308279Something odd I've notice about chess.com. When I spectate games between 1600-1800 rated players, they genuinely don't look very different from 800-rated games. Maybe it's just my imagination but I see all kinds of stupid blunders that you don't see in 2000+ games.
>>82312732chess.com player performance is very inconsistent at a given rating compared to lichess from what I've seen
>>82312352I pledge my sword to the Glorious State of e5, and will not rest until all Danish Gambit Shitters are banished from the realm.Deus Vult
>>82312779it's a total fucking mess because you can choose between 4 different starting ratingsthere's random pools of rating up to like 800pts apart that play the exact same
>>82312867there's also some kind of temporary surge going on (which I'm a part of) because of the queen's gambit/twitch/quarantine
>>82312889Tbf, that was a long while ago at this point. I think anyone still playing is just a chess player and not part of a trend at this point.
I just played a 1600 who didn't know how to mate with a rook. How? How you get that high without knowing that mate?
>>82312867>it's a total fucking mess because you can choose between 4 different starting ratings>there's random pools of rating up to like 800pts apart that play the exact sameCorrect. It's worthwhile to start a new account on com and select the top starting rating. 1200 I think? Speeds up the grind some as those players are not any better than the 1000s.
>>82313307you think that's badhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afGVhcpVv4E
The initial rating is completely irrelevant and shouldn't affect the distribution, as long as glicko is implemented properly. They might as well put every new user at 4000 and nothing would change.
>>82310925Trying to ascribe a monetary value to a priceless item. Retard
>>82313354So if you're like that then what do you do? Try to protect your pawns like hell or? Incredible. I haven't faced someone who didn't know it in several months. Back when it was a regular thing I would point them to youtube for a tutorial on how.
>>82313375Based rating understander. It’s really not that complicated but people here talk about it like it’s some esoteric dark magic.
World Champs press conference for anyone who missed it last thread. It's awful but here ya go:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkO3Ms9djf4
somehow i have a much better score against the ruy lopez than i do the italian.
God, I came across some maximum autists today playing blitz. The first guy who I didn't know and never played before messaged me during a game and asked me if I wanted to join his team. I assumed he was mass-spamming the message and ignored it, but then he sent another message saying "helloo?".I wrote back "no" and then he said "why". "You're so strong" "You would really lift up the team"I blocked him. Then the next guy was a 2100 (rated 200 pts below me) and I matched with him and played him once. In the chat he said "say some" and took like 20 seconds to write that in a 3 min game. Then after I beat him he kept spamming rematches, again when I was in another game. So I blocked him too.
>>82313647maybe it's because the italian is the superior opening as white??
>>82312097>caro>heavier in theory than e5 or c5Cmon now
Bros, holy fuck I can’t fucking believe I spotted this queen sacrifice while having only 1 minute on the clock (my rival had 2.) Add to that that my king side was being completely raped by my rival, and you have here probably one of my best games ever (at least when it comes to not succumbing to my nerves.)Winning this game felt almost as good as having sex. Ahhhhh I love chess
Do you think it's rude to go for a more difficult mate if you're completely winning? I was up bishop pair and rook in endgame just now, decided to get the rook out of the way and do a two bishops as I hadn't practice it in a while. It only occurred to me after the game that that might have been annoying. I mean I don't have much sympathy for someone who doesn't resign at that point but still. And I wouldn't resign either because I like practising stalemate traps if I get the chance.
>>82314235Nice job, anon. That's the power of playing a lot of puzzles. You get quicker at spotting that stuff. Black's failure to play c5 pains me. Just cardinal divine rule of playing against the london is put c5 out there on move 2 or move 3 at the latest. Do it.
>>82314292Thanks, anon. And yeah, solving puzzles is definitely paying off for me. My opponent not being able to counter the London isn’t really surprising, it’s a 1100 elo blitz game after all. There, matches are not won by the person that makes the most brilliant moves, but by the person that manages to make the least number of blunders.
>>82314240It's a little rude, but so is fishing for stalemates.
>>82314240nah he can just resign when he feels like it, he doesn't have to sit through the whole thing
I encountered another cheater on coolmath in my allotted 1 coolmath game per evening. He start off cheating but on move 7 it was all top engine moves from that point forward. I'm just posting this because I thought stockfish's checkmate here was pretty satisfying looking.
>>82315309>He start off cheatinghe didn't* start of cheating
>>82313785Sounds like your experiences are much more exciting than mine, I'd love to banter and interact with people but nobody ever responds, let alone initiates. You sound like a wet blanket, by the way. Not in the case of the first guy, I hate those "join muh team" faggots, but definitely in the second case.
>>82315357I haven't played anybody chatty in a while. I miss it. The last funny one was black guy on com who wrote "you trash" immediately after resigning.
>>82308725You should expect to lose rating if you're playing an opening you're unfamiliar with. Stick with em and you'll get the rating back.
>>82314235Don't be afraid to castle queenside anon. : )

Panov against Cato kann is really strange. I blinder much more than in the exchange and often just hang a pawn but somehow it makes my opponents throw the game sooner or later.
>>82316918i love panovcaro cucks just can't handle an open position and usually think because i have an IQP they have some sort of advantagenigga you aint botvinnik, that shit dont matter

what are your opening predictions for tomorrow?will nepo play e4 or d4, maybe Nf3? how will carlsen respond?will nepo play mainlines (eg the italian, spanish, open sicilian) or less popular choices (the scotch or the moscow / rossolimo, maybe allowing the nimzo if d4)?
So this is the power of WIM
Are there any other chess players with eyepatches, or was Richard Teichmann the only one?
Coolest checkmate ever. I thought as long as I could on how to sac the rook and not get mated myself but it just wasn't possible.
>>82318618I saw that move and didn't think it worked. Re1 if Qe8 was the important detail i overlooked.
Nepo will win the first game.
>>82320831I'm more curious how this position came about in the first place.
>>82320920i want him to win so badhaving a fat piece of shit who only wants to play vidya and has other gms do all the prep work for him as world champ is perfect

kinda hyped that there's gonna be a howell-jovanka stream. they're the only ones I can watch for more than 5 minutes
>>82321167Have you seen any commentary featuring Judit Polgar? She's really fun to listen to, her + Kramnik was probably the best commentary team I've ever seen in any competition.
>>82321167Same. It's annoying that they're forced to use babytalk instead of notation but other than that they're by far the best commentators in the chess world.
>>82321167Is there a place where I can like, look at all the streams and where to watch them? I don't know how you all find this stuff
>>82321236>polgar + kramnik>goodlines lines lines lines lines is not good chess commentary
>>82321167>>82321236dubov+skripchenko is the greatest commentary team, the sexual tension is incredible
>>82320676What did WFMs mean by this?
>>82320577I feel strongly that Nepo will open with a King's Gambit.
>>82316805You can just create games on lichess requesting to be matched with people at your rating to +500 above.
>>82320157>All draws in classical - most likely. Can people stop saying this? It makes you look retarded. This has only happened once ever, it's not like the baseline expectation for a World Championship. You really need to get a clue. Not joking.
>>82321311Why would you care if I look retarded?
>>82321286That would be great but there's no way.
>>82321257What do you want them to talk about - how the players must feel? The lines were provided as justifications for why certain moves might be good or bad. Chess is a concrete game and Judit and Vlad broke down concrete ideas in a way that even a shitter can understand a good deal as long as he can follow notation.
>>82321323Because bad takes annoy me.
>>82321331chess is a concrete game but it doesn't mean they can't illustrate common concepts and underscore them or explain ideas of openings but of course that's only done when teaching students who are paying them personally that's why i prefer commentary from weaker gm's like maurice (without the engine) and jesse kraai, also yasser is pretty good when he's actually commenting and not being jen shahade's tampon lines lines lines is just dumb and doesn't give me anything
>>82321361Anon, they explained their "lines lines lines". Besides, there's no way to show that something either does or doesn't work tactically without showing or describing lines.
>>82321330That's what everyone keeps telling me, but as usual I'm right and everyone else is wrong. I think he will because it sets a tone (I'm coming for blood) and will make Magnus wonder what else he might play, which will destabilize his prep. Also it would take Magnus into the sort of game that he hates and that favors Ian. Also note that Ian just released a KG course on chessable. On the one hand you would think that he wouldn't release a course for an opening that he intends to play in the WC, but players release courses on their openings and still play them all the time (see So's e4). That's because the opening doesn't make the game, ie just because you know 25 moves of theory in the opening won't save you from the middle game. But more to the point, I doubt Ian would spend the amount of time it would take to do a Chessable course right before the WC on an opening that he doesn't intend to use... think about it.
>>82321423even if an idea doesn't concretely work it should be pointed out, lines and 'do things work' is secondary to ideas when teaching if i want to do lines i'll just solve puzzles i'm not saying there should be no lines, but there should be a bit of positional stuff too instead ofpolgar goes>white's better okkramnik goes>yes i agree ok okwithout any explanationand then they just go into lines and lines
>>82321440He may play it in the rapid or blitz portion but trotting it out on game 1 of the classical seems a little too spicy even for Nepo. I would love to be surprised about this.
>>82321248pretty much every website has a live sectionthe stream will be embedded or linked therecheck the second pastebin in the OP
>>82321440I will literally give you all my money if that happens.
>>82321648Ok, put all your money in and screenshot it.https://sports.bwin.com/en/sports/events/ian-nepomniachtchi-rus-magnus-carlsen-nor-game-1-12330321
>>82321483>even if an idea doesn't concretely work it should be pointed outThat's literally what they did. >>82321648Uh yes please? Is there a way to follow up on this turn of events?>>82321673Doesn't show that you can bet on the opening beyond the first move
>>82321712If it happens, I'll look up how to do it. But I am sure it's not happening.

>>82321760Ok don't let me down!
>>82321780He's not me, and no I won't.
woohoohoo this got more sharp than I wanted. Going for nice calm petrov vs the italian but I forgot a key move. After knight takes and knight takes the move is d5. Then white retreats the bishop and development continues. Instead I went for this. Apparently it's still even leaning winning for black aside from one mistake I made but not the kind of position I like to get in to so early in the game.
>>82321236Personally not a fan of Polgar's commentary. She seems like she's on the spectrum, no social skills at all, usually leads to awkward commentary.
>>82321440Okay so what are you willing to put on the line. How bout if Nepo doesn't play King's Gambit first game you post a picture of your gaping butthole and /chess/ on one of your butt cheeks. If he does play it I'll do the same. Deal?

>>82320936You asked for it.>Inb4 missed matesNo shit. This was quite intentional.
I get so pissed off when opponents play absolute shit and then take time a piece down in the endgamelike maybe do some thinking on the early turns where you played nonsense lol
>>82323869yeah people be badlike when i'm playing on increment and they feel the need to match my pace and end up losing with ten minutes on the clock
>>82323429Playing otb classical with back issues must be miserable. Another reason why I'll probably never do it.
>>82323429>After all, the night before he happened to see Tony sitting and eating normally in a Chinese restaurant.lol
>>82323845Sure, but if you don't fuck them, they'll fuck you, where people claim wins in losing positions just because my internet craps out. Its the same reason why I have takebacks disabled, I don't want to accept takebacks when others haven't accepted my takebacks for obvious misclicks (Kf1 instead of castling short). My issue with it is more that the buttons are close together and you could accidentally claim a draw instead of a win

I wonder if nepo will play the jerome gambit. Magnus definitely won't see that coming.
the only gambit you'll see is the Evans in game 5 or 6
>>82328748>t. agadmatorThe actual most likely gambit is the Benko. Queen's Gambit too, but it's not really a gambit in the traditional sense, there's no way to keep the pawn.
>>82328910>rio gambitMy bad, I don't play 1. e4 so I don't know Spanish gambits. Wasn't there a Marshall gambit there that was very common among GMs? Or is that the Rio?
We all know what they're gonna play
Reminder to do a general on /sp/
>>82328945Too bad Magnus doesn't know that Nepo watched Levy's video on the Traxler.
>lichess rating is not accu-https://lichess.org/@/unique-chess_1967

>>82331204Nepo got outprepped
>>82331187holy recency bias. He was top 10-20 for quite a while and then did stunningly well in 1 (one) major tournament.
>>82331378He's got youth on his side so people just assume the astronomical climb will continue. Still think next candidates will be won by So, Ding or Fabi though. 2024 will be Alireza's time.
>>82331378In 2 tournaments, but nevertheless it’s ridiculous to claim he’s significantly stronger than any other top10 player, let alone Ding or Fabiano.
>>82331378You can write it off as just a single lucky tournament (which it was not, he did great both in the grand swiss and the european team championship), but it was obvious that his rating would be lagging behind his true strength after covid given his age.
>>82331008That's exactly my point. I have been watching the Anna Myzchuk Vishi Anand stream. Anna is very cute and Anand is a very good commentator.

When is the last time someone actually won with the ruy vs an equal level opponent without it just being down to endgame tricks
>>82331578For me, personally, the definitive analysis will be when Daniel King makes his video.
>>82331691>without it just being down to endgame trickswtf does this even mean? if neither side blunders the game will be won / lost in the endgame.also do you just not watch chess? People win in the Spanish with both colors all the time.
