Of the ten cards I looked at, two of them had typographical errors. The only game I've seen posted here with an error rate as high was Metazoo. I realize that most games, particularly over a long enough time span, are going to have something slip through eventually, but it's hard for me to take a game seriously if it has frequent typos.

If I made my own game free to print-and-play, would most people ignore it? I've heard that it's a pretty reviled format.
>>82297842>I've heard that it's a pretty reviled format. You heard wrong. Many, many people print and play numerous games that have physical cards due to scarcity and price of them being a barrier to entry. Your actual hurdle is getting people to care enough about your game to spend the time printing it.
>>82296259My first thought was atahuta but yeaThey know their target audience
>>82296259That artist has already drawn a few cards for the game too.
So I know there are games like Ashes and The Arkham horror card game, but can someone redpill me on which of those LCG kind of games are kino and worth playing?I'm curious about them as a side game
>>82299409Other than the expensive barrier to entry (especially on the FFG games) people don't really complain about them I think. Most if not all of them fit into their own niches so give the starter for the one with a theme you like a go and see if you like it enough to continue buying. Any you're particularly interested in?
>>82299894Ashes looked really sick but i barely know anything about it.Sell me on any of them, I'm not new to TCG's but I don't know these CCG's very well
>>82299409Ashes: Great game bogged down by decision paralysis and density in each game IMO. I think it's a wonderfully deep game, but I can't help but feel exhausted after I play a few games. Reminds me of Artifact in that regard. As for the monetization system, it's not TOO bad, but as with other competitive LGSs, you eventually run into the problem where top tier decks run cards from every expansion, meaning you have a big hurdle if you want to buy in. Still, it's usually smaller than the hurdle for TCGs - the main issue is that a lack of a secondary market means acquiring those cards, cheap as they are, is a big hassle. IMO some of the art and characters are really ugly as well, which is a bit of a turnoff.Arkham Horror LCG is one of my favorites because it doesn't require you to have all cards to be competitive. It's an enjoyable game, but it's more of an expandable board game than a card game since it's cooperative. The scenarios are fun and varied, characters and builds feel and play differently, and the game has very tense moments. My criticisms are that the card pool is very small if you wanna have 3+ players at a time, and that build variety/tinkering with deckbuilding is weak until you get a few dozen expansions.
>>82300046For Ashes, would you recommend it to people who have played MTG for a long time? And does the competitiveness of it matter since no place hosts events for it?Also any other ones you have a take on? I'm curious
>>82299975Netrunner - cyberpunk asymmetrical game where each side has different goals and win conditions. The runner side aims to steal points by running into servers (reveal cards hidden in opponent's deck, placed facedown, or in hand), and corp side attempts to score point while making running attempts harder, or kill the runner. Very thematic, as you can tell by the heavy use of terminology, and quite different from most TCGs. It's officially dead, but the fan community is keeping it going with new cards that you can just print out and the online client simulator thingy. Arkham Horror LCG - co-operative game that is more board game than TCG based off of FFG's Arkham Horror series. Each of the players play a character in a campaign that can potentially change itself and the player('s deck) as they go through it. It plays closely like an RPG, with goals to complete, locations to investigate, skill tests to pass, and important choices to make. Expensive to get in (atleast two core sets for the full 4 player experience, and full campaigns are like a deluxe set + 6 card packs) , but it is one of the better LCG experiences and the probably the best Lovecraft inspired game.Keyforge - Honorable mention. Not an LCG, but you collect it by buying full individual decks instead of cards. The decks are semi-randomly sorted by an algorithm, and each deck is completely unique with no other copy in the world. Thing is they lost said sorting algorithm earlier this year so they're on hiatus right now, but any decks still on the market are still playable. Really easy to learn, quite fun as a casual thing to play between games you're more invested in.
I'm still waiting for an LCG that plays more like an MTG cube experience rather than the constructed deck side of things.
>>82300208Arkham sounds fun, how do you get a 4 player experience, how well does it play out?Keyforge I do like but I haven't picked up any decks since the second set, are the more recent decks more interesting?
>>82300302The 4 player experience is basically just each player bringing their own deck, and the game then scales its difficulty accordingly. Thankfully though they recently released stand alone investigator decks, so you can probably get away with a single core (which has enough neutral cards for two players) and two of those decks. If I recall the newest set had a Tide mechanic that affects cards depending on it, while the before it had a gimmick where cards would randomly get additional icons on it.
>>82300385is it hard enough to where you have to netdeck or can you get away with making your own stuff?
>>82300411There are various difficulty modes and the challenges generally vary. Some are more suited to multiple players than others. That being said, it's overall well-balanced and you'll have a decent time playing on Standard or Easy with random jank that has a modicum of thought behind it.
>>82300411You definitely don't need to netdeck, it can be fun once you're familiar with the campaign and feel like seeing the limits of what the character can do, and there are higher difficulty settings that might need a better tuned deck in order to play through, but for the normal campaigns making a roleplay deck is completely viable. One thing I forgot to mention is how the skill tests work. Instead of using dice it uses tokens placed in a bag with a certain composition, and you pull one of those tokens out for your skill tests. Before pulling one you (and other investigators at your location) can pitch cards in your hand to modify the result based on icons on the pitched card. I mention this because the difficulty of the game is set by changing what tokens are in the bag, so higher difficulties are likelier to give you a bad token.
>>82275605>>82279870Wish sharing earlier Wixoss was easier. Takes a specific kind of person who’s willing to import cards in a language they can’t read.
>>82299409Ashes: Don't have it but people say it is the best competitive lcgArkham Horror lcg: It is a fun game, its more like a rpg played with cards and without a "dungeon master" or whatever the narrator is called in call of chthulho. Like a boardgame but you can follow a story if you play every expansion on a cycle.
>>82296163>Surely numerous potential players would be happy to review the cards for free. They have an entire system set up for that and built a tabletop sim mod so people can play test it for free>The only game I've seen posted here with an error rate as high was MetazooMetazoo rushed to the printers and was clearly made by Americans wanting to make a quick bucks with dogshit fakemon art so it seems a bit more egregious there

>>82301479I don't know I found it on twitter
>>82301030Arkham sounds epic, how much do you have to buy to start say like a 3-4 player game?
>>82301475Maybe it's like a Top Trumps game?>>82301526They need to give them different hairstyles or something, they all look the same to me.
>>82300246>I'm still waiting for an LCG that plays more like an MTG cube experience rather than the constructed deck side of things. That is exactly what I'm working on. I hope to release a set of stand alone expansions, each containing 10 sets of cards. Players choose 2 sets each to form the pool to draft from.
>>82301781Just checked the FFG site, and apparently they released a revised core set that has enough cards for 4 players right off the bat, besides other QoL upgrades. It's going for ~$60, which compared to buying the original core twice is a steal. As for full length campaigns (the one in the core set is a short introductory one), they're starting to roll out boxes that either have all Investigator cards (~$40 for the newest cycle) or all Campaign cards (~$70), so if you just want one or the other you can do that. Older campaigns other than the very first one are still 1 deluxe (~$33) + 6 expansion packs (~$17 each), but guessing they'll be released in the new format in the future.Have to say this new distribution method is making me jealous of and happy for the newer players.
>>82302459so i can buy the campaign cards, investigators, and the base set thing, for like what, 170 bucks?Am I missing anything? That's not that much overall for card game shit
>>82302605Pretty much it, yeah, besides any new campaigns and investigators you want to buy into. LCGs are cheap like that, and since it's a co-operative game you don't really need to go try hard and buy additional playsets of certain cards to make perfect decks or anything.
Is aniplex planning more retprints? set 4 for preorders already out of stock in some stores

>>82299975>>82300146not any of those anons, but I'll wax poetic about Ashes for a couple minutes because I fucking love that game.so first thing is >>82300046 is absolutely true for competitive play. the game is more of a brain burner than netrunner and that should tell you something. It's got that quality where in hindsight you usually realize you had basically perfect knowledge and every mistake was avoidable, but there's this huge branching factor. so every time you win you feel like a genius, and every time you lose you feel like an idiot. however, I don't think that precludes having a fun casual game, because a lot of the depth comes from things that aren't really stuff you think about when you're not in the deep end of the pool, like keeping track of what's left in your opponent's deck and trying to anticipate their moves 3 turns ahead. a lot of it *looks* random to a casual player, and the appearance of randomness is enough to keep it unpredictable in a casual environment.>>82300146>For Ashes, would you recommend it to people who have played MTG for a long time?Ashes is really well suited to ex-magic players whose frustration with magic was the gameplay. Like the guy who complains that MTG is too shallow or too random, or pay2win, or whatever? that guy is Ashes' target audience.>And does the competitiveness of it matter since no place hosts events for it?For almost every game you'll see on this thread, the higher level competition has shifted heavily to playing online. And in general it is fucking fierce, because even in a relatively small game like Ashes (active community of maybe a couple thousand people) you're running in to the best players from everywhere on the regular. That's got pros and cons. On the upside you can get a lot of games in, play all times of day, and play events regularly without having to worry about travel. But you definitely lose a little bit of something not playing games in person.

>>82308936You can try gently rubbing off tape adhesive with the tiniest bit of water and your fingers. It's not a total loss short of the tape taking cardboard with it when you get to peeling.Troll and Toad at one point used cardboard mailers for their singles that were designed to fuck up cards if we are gonna talk about egregious packaging decisions. This mailer has three slots for cards and is sized to fit in a standard envelop but the process of mailing bent to shit any cards in the "wings". The only thing to survive my last order were some Tiger Lillies.Tcgplayer is the worst though, in that a good 10% of the time stuff just won't show up. I've not ordered a lot of FoW stuff because I knew the seller was either dangerously stupid or straight up malicious and a listing might as well not exist.
>>82309828>Troll and ToadDamn, that's shitty. I ordered a ridiculous amount of ScoreZ cards from them over the span of a few years, but that was over a decade ago.>Tcgplayer is the worst though, in that a good 10% of the time stuff just won't show up.That shit gets so frustrating. I order things from numerous websites, and tcgplayer is the only one where I regularly have packages simply not arrive. It can't always be the postal service losing the items.
>>82301526>>82301475Can you write the name of the game (i m not japanese but i m interested to search on ebay)
>>82302605Well, they release new campaings with new charactes each 1-2 years, soo if you really like the game you will be spending 110(?) each year or soo.
>>82310755The Troll and Toad dealings I had could probably be just a weird idea they quickly abandoned but they have enough dead ccg stuff to make me take my chances. Ebay is in that exact same boat, chance at goofy packaging included.Tcgplayer isn't in the same boat but fell overboard and drowned.
>>82301475>>82301526Topkek, that's one way to save on art costs, I suppose. And look at all that representation! WotC is probably negotiating a crossover for mtg.
>>82309828>buy rare card>removing it from the packaging would send it straight from NM to HP>can't dispute because the card arrived in the advertised condition it's the buyers fault for damaging it! :^))))Those people are fucking psychopaths.
>>82311096What I find interesting is that both ebay and tcgplayer are just intermediaries between the buyer and seller, yet only my purchases from sellers on one of those platforms repeatedly fail to arrive. Packaging issues seem to be unfortunately common everywhere, but at least the cards show up so I can begin the annoying process of getting a refund or replacement. With tcgplayer I have to wait ages before everyone has to acknowledge the item would have arrived in that time frame before I can request a refund.
>>82311377Intermediaries that take up to 30% :^)
>>82311197There's probably some kind of useful psychological data to be had from studying what people do when they mail a single piece of cardboard. If you fuck that up you shouldn't retain the right to buy tape.

>>82299975Pixel Tactics Each player has a 3x3 grid with a Leader occupying the center. Summon units, lay traps, cast spells, and engage in melee and ranged combat in a game where positioning is absolutely critical. Kill their Leader before they kill yours to experience an empowering feeling of tactical and intellectual superiority over your opponent which quickly vanishes when you suddenly remember that neither of you will ever achieve anything noteworthy in your lifetimes.Cons>1. no real setting, story, or atmosphere to speak of>2. the "art" technically fits the theme, but that theme is unironically "bad art">3. any set you buy will contain enough cardboard tokens to track damage, but you know damn well that dice are superior, potentially raising the overall cost of the game. Seriously, though, if you're on /tg/ and don't already own dice then you're doing it wrong.>4. the symbols next to the abilities don't mean shit, serving only as a form of flavor to occupy visual real estate on what would otherwise be an essentially blank section of the cards>5. every card in the game effectively has 4 modes (technically 5, but you only assign one card as your Leader per game) which can quickly lead to decision paralysis >6. you receive Action Points every turn that you spend to do things such as draw a card, summon a unit, move a unit, use/attack with a unit, clear a corpse, and other things. You may not save Action Points for later turns. Have I mentioned decision paralysis?>7. massive skill gaps can exist even between two very experienced players. Taking loss after loss repeatedly without the possibility of even catching a garbage win from your opponent drawing an unplayable opening hand (as may happen in numerous other card games) can rapidly drive players away from Pixel Tactics.
>>82312419Pros>1. you don't have to immerse yourself in fiction to fully experience everything the game has to offer. The setting is your mom's basement, the story is you and your only friend are playing cards on opposing 3x3 grids, and the atmosphere is one of permeating dampness saturated with repressed self-loathing.>2. with no desirable art to collect nor any sort of chase cards to concern yourself with, your typical issue of being a consumer whore and overspending due to poor impulse control is entirely nonexistent. The lack of foils also conveniently removes any worries about the cards curling in your mom's basement.>3. you should already have enough dice to track damage without needing to buy more. This isn't Keyforge.>4. the symbols next to the abilities don't mean shit, freeing you from having to memorize a bunch of fucking pictograms >5. every card in the game effectively has 4 modes, meaning the RNG of your deck will never dictate specific play patterns. You can adjust your tactics every turn as the gamestate changes, and you're never going to find yourself in games just waiting turn after turn to see if you eventually draw into a certain card to have a chance at winning.>6. the way the game implements Action Points as a resource system means there is no mana screw, and you cannot draw a dead opening hand. You will also never have a boring turn where simply passing is your best/only option.>7. massive skill gaps can exist even between two very experienced players. Taking loss after loss repeatedly without the possibility of even catching a garbage win from your opponent drawing an unplayable opening hand (as may happen in numerous other card games) can rapidly drive whiny little faggots away from Pixel Tactics.Sets are $15 each and come with two identical decks so you can give one to your only friend. You can buy any set to get into the game. If you buy more than one set then you can deckbuild.
>>82312468It also has a Megaman crossover for those who may be interested.
>>82309828>>82310755>>82311096my thing is: there's almost no barrier to entry in getting started which is why I'm not surprised a higher percentage of 'stores' are scamsdon't own a phone? come on down, you don't have to prove you actually have the cards! no pics, no phone number verification, nothingthere are even gold star sellers that are legit for the first 50 sales off <$1 cards before they suddenly have a trove of $50-$100 cards that get shipped in PWE, never to show up at your door
>>82313457It would seem detrimental to tcgplayer's bottom line to allow such behavior considering I've had times where they had to refund my money and suspend/remove the seller. Perhaps their profit margins are so high that such occurrences are just treated as an expected business expense. Even if that's the case, though, the damage it causes to consumer confidence in their platform costs them sales that are not able to be measured in any substantial way. Their operational expenses are probably so low they simply don't give a fuck.

For the Tales heroes I'd just name Electrify, Polar Blast or Sow Tomorrow because they'd definitely run those a lot for the draw 1 from Arsenal. The unique win con is how each deck wins, be it through combat, resource gain, or locking out your opponent.>>82324980Yeah, picked up a few games online with the starters, its actually quite fun.
