Started work on a Termagant mutant carrying a venom cannon (ala the old weapon beast rules from 3E). Needs a lot of cleanup and also plenty of sculpting but I'm quite satisfied with the overall shape. Mostly just a rescued Termagant and spare parts along with a WGA spider abdomen.
>>81293544And for shits and giggles the other side.
>>81293513Huh. Darn! I had neglected to download that one, and it was good, too! Guess I'll remove it from the next OP, if it's up to me.
Just to show you guys I finished it.
>>81293034Finished my Rune Priest. Found this old metal model in a carboot pre-covid , got him for a couple of quid. I dont think its too bad for a rescue job
>>81293818Nice work. Face looks great. Seems like a fun project. How did you come across this in the first place, if you don't mind my asking?
>>81293880It's an old lead figurine from a collection I made years ago. Copyright is 2005 (MMV).This one, I handled so often, the paint came off because it was cheap chink shit so I decided to fix my mistakes by painting it again so I could put it back with the rest of them. The base is pure black instead of dirt-colored because every base is like that and I still wanted the collection to feel coherent.
Working on my coffin creep
>>81293974Neat. I've seen some plastic collectibles, but not a lot of pewter figures in this size. Ever thought about repainting the whole set?
>>81294128DeAgostini isn't paying me enough for that, even if every time I look at Hugo Weaving's entirely pink face with two dots for eyes it makes me itch.

>>81293060From previous thread. Can anyone confirm this about Army painter washes?
>>81294492yeah. They're pretty much the closest you can get to the previous iteration of GW washes short of mixing some yourself
>>81294696>>81294720Alright is there a difference between the Army Painter washes marked as "ink" or marked as "washes?"
I'm painting that guy's cloak with incubi darkness (dark blue-green). Would a bright red like mephiston red work as a secondary colour?
>>81294961I mean yeah it works, but do you really want to bring attention to the bright red part?
>>81288988Got some Royal Warden and Indom Overlord bitz, lych guard and chronomancer bitz, and the arm is from the resin destroyer lord upgrade kit. Also the little waving flag you can't really see tat the destroyer lord is floating on is from the tau start collecting ethereal.
>>81295156Not particularly but I wanted a bit of variety.
>>81295309>>81295156Would it work better with a darker red like Khorne Red?
>>81295442I'd even mix it with a bit of brown
Alright, so I bought an airbrush.I have this as access to a compressor, but before I hook anything up, I want to make sure I'm not going to fuck myself out of my airbrush. Will something like this work at all? My initial instinct is hell no, because it's for up to 150psi and my airbrush is 8-20. It claims it's automatic, but it's also for filling car tires, so I'm pretty sure automatic means something different here. So, can I risk it, or is this totally unsuitable? I've got no problem buying a compressor, I just don't want to do it if I have a fine one right here.
>>81295517and then desaturate (with white) for highlights
>>81294961You can use the patchwork detailing for more effect and expressiveness.
>>81293034Some more stuff done. Thus far quite happy with the progress, should be done next week.
>>81294697They also did an oversized set, called Figuras de Big Chumbo
>>81295865That's a good idea.
Ulrik im working on , really enjoyed working on this model Just got his backpack to do , hows he looking /WIP/?
>>81296739Bring up the highlights, post back of the cape.Just did a quick job on this test print from a friend who just got a 3D printer. I think this is one of the fastest paintjobs I did, and I think it looks alright. What do you think lads?
>>81296739HAH love that wolf / werewolf eye, great touch!
>>81296831All the highlights or just certain ones? here is the back , haven't finished with the backpack yet Loving that orb on the belt on your model , what you thinking of doing for the boots?
>>81296739Rather flat. Everything needs to be touched up with some highlighting as there's not enough contrast right now.
>>81296930>All the highlights or just certain ones?Mostly the skin and the cape, especially the cape. Get that contrast going, make your dark darkers and your brights brighter. This is a character so I'm assuming you wanna go all in right? Also highlight the metallics, it was a gamechanger for me once I started going up to silver when highlighting gold.>what you thinking of doing for the boots?Honestly, that's it. It's a test print after all, so I kinda wanna keep it simpleish. I also have a ton of shit to paint and tend to take too long on each model, so I don't mind training for speed a little bit.
>>81297060Ok , will finish up the backpack then smack some highlights on him , anywhere I should focus on?
>>81296043That NMM looks sick anon.
>>81295563Bad idea, get a real one with a moisture trap and an air tank. Also do not underestimate how nice it is having a quiet compressor.
Thinking of mixing up Stirland Mud and Blood for the Blood God for some messy bits on my orks. Has anyone had luck mixing something like that before? I'm just going for dried blood and grime.
>>81297301Dried blood looks black, not red.
Starting to get into the hobby, /wip/ I have some questions I need to ask.If superglue is the gold standard of glue from plastic to resin to metal, does it have any effects on miniatures besides fusing them together?I've read that some glues somewhat "melt" their plastic to try and fill in their gaps. Does "Lepage" superglue (sold from a nearby hardware store) do this?Like I've been told that with push-fit miniatures like the discontinued 40k cadian models I should not glue the holes, but instead the arms in place. What is the general "rule of thumb" order in miniature when painting after assemblage?Do I start on the larger details of the miniature first, then work on the smaller details then add a wash? Then after said wash I go back over the details avoiding where the wash (meant to shade) collected? Is edge highlighting necessary or just a style that Citadel encourages?Does anybody have experience with WarColour's Nostalgia88 paint line?I want to use their Goblin green and sunburst yellow to make classic sand bases because I have some miniatures that I feel would look good with those bases. That's all I can really think about off the top of my head.Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.
>>81297326And what if it's still held wet some from the mud?
>>81297139Glad it's selling. >>81297116Here, this should help.
>>81297476Okay, who thought Nostalgia Heil Hitler was a good idea for a name of a paint line?
>>81297476Most important question, what are you building and painting?Plastic glue melts plastic pieces together. Superglue adheres them, meaning the glue is what holds them together With superglue you get the bonus of being able to toss them in the freezer to break the glue bonds to rebuild them if you so choose at a later date, plastic glue turns two pieces into one. And plastic glue only works on plastic.Large details to small is best. You might have to touch up where the wash is over done. Edge highlighting is to have details have more pop and stand out, you should do it at least on hard edges and where details overlap. No experience with the paint line you've mentioned
>>81297476Superglue just holds stuff togethers.Plastic glue is what "welds" plastic into a single piece.Push fit you should trim about 1/3 of the peg off then glue will work fine. Big to small, dark to light. Edge highlights are just a stylistic choice, you can do much the same by painting bright and shading dark.
>>81297476>for gluing Plastic - humbrol liquid poly (little glass bottle with brush) Metal - Araldite 2 part epoxy.gluing plastic minis is not rocket science, it takes very little glue. >for paintinggenerally you want to paint in order of >primer>base>layer>highlight. washes will most likely be between base and layer. General rule - 2 thin coats. research the colours you NEED, look into why they are used and how you intend to use them.To benefit the most from acrylic paint should consider getting a wet pallet, and possible an acrylic paint thinner, though you can also thin it with water. Ultimately its up to you to learn paint methods and assembly cuz at the end of the day they're just fucking miniature toys.
Second batch of base toppers finished for some rebel scum.
>>81297714>Most important question, what are you building and painting?Mantic dwarf miniatures. Any advice on what I'm getting in for in terms of assembling them?>Superglue adheres them, meaning the glue is what holds them togetherOkay then so for a little "all purpose go-to glue" is superglue the way to go?>>81297781>Push fit you should trim about 1/3 of the peg off then glue will work fine. Can you elaborate on that some more? The Citadel push fit sprues have a little hole for them to go in. Is this where I put the super glue in and push the object into?>>81297887>gluing plastic minis is not rocket science, it takes very little glue.I know I just want to make sure that I don't manage to screw up.I appreciate the glue suggestions. The reason I mentioned Lepage glue (pic related) is because I have some at home I bought from a local hardware store because I needed to use it for a little home repairing.I don't want it to go to waste, but is it really a reliable glue for miniature assembly? For Metal, resin, and of course hard plastic?>consider getting a wet palletI remember a thread a while ago about discussion of a DIY wet palette and one lad suggested a ferrero rocher plastic container. A 15 piece one if I recall correctly so I'll get that wet palette container and the chocolate is nice.>>81297684Okay I giggled reading that, anon. Thank you.WarColour's Nostalgia88 paint line is meant to emulate the late 80s Citadel paint line hence its naming.I would greatly appreciate if any of you are willing to share your experience with the paint line.I find the sand green bases (with some flicks of yellow) charming with cartoonish looking miniatures. There may be more accursed 1999 zoomers like myself that share the same point of view when looking at old miniatures and their goblin green bases.>>81297714>>81297781>>81297887I greatly appreciate all of your painting advice.Thank you, anons.
>>81297179Yea, I figured.I'm not looking for anything spendy of impressive, but I also would like to avoid something terrible. What's a good low end model that isn't total trash?
>>81298605I would say its very usable for minis, my suspicion is that it may be overkill, so test the glue using very very light applications and adjust accordingly. I've come across second-hand minis that were ruined by non modelling glue. >>81298516how did you achieve those oil/chemical leaks? nicely done.
>>81298647These compressors are all mostly the same with a different brand sticker on them, post a local store or something and we can take a look.
>>81298728I honestly figured I'd be buying one online. Do major stores like Hobby Lobby or even stuff like Home Depot carry them?
Finished my warlord. The sail could be a little better but I can't spend more time on it, lots to do!
>>81298752I mean an online store you can buy from retard.
>>81298722Just Nuln oil and nurgles rot dripped
>>81298805Well, I have internet, so I think it's safe to assume from fucking any of them.
>>81298802Is this heavily converted or has GW actually finally released a good model?
>>81298837Headswap and weaponswap for the Admiral, Sail added on.
>>81298835Do you really wanna ship a 7kg compressor from overseas?
>>81298802Oooh baby !! Congrats, absolutely beautiful. For the sail, I think just clipping off some bits should do the trick.
>>81298810wait is that wet? i thought it was a type of clear epoxy.
>>81298722>I've come across second-hand minis that were ruined by non modelling glue.Would you care to elaborate the damage done to these miniatures? Can any of it be reversed? Are you >>81297887 ? If not what "go-to" type of glue (and brand please) do you recommend?
>>81298997The nurgle drys glossy, and the nuln is part still wet, part has some gloss mixed in
>>81298861Looking around, seems like a decent compessor is an AS-186 style one with a tank on it, which I can find on Amazon. That a decent choice?
>>81294697Yes, it's a foreign word for Lead.
>>81299165If it has a tank and a moisture trap it should be good. Take a look at the noise rating, 60db is about regular conversation loud.
Dont know what to do with the helmet.Shoild i go for a easier tmm or a possibly fugly nmm?
>>81299087just make sure to apply the glue you have in small light amounts and precisely on the joints as non-modelling glue may create a type of non-removable hard crust. like I said test it out first. Yes I recommended the other glues.
>>81299321As I've told you before, NMM if you want to learn, TMM if you want low effort but decent results. Here's an NMM pattern for that helmet.
>>81299342>just make sure to apply the glue you have in small light amounts and precisely on the jointsSo something like dripping some super glue onto the underside of a bottlecap and using a toothpick to spread the glue on the edges of a miniature?Pic related is an example sprue of stuff that will be arriving soon. What am I in for in assembling them?
Thoughts on these broken desert road bases? Will do a dusting of sandy pigments when the biker models are put on. Add some grasses and maybe some flowers. Supposed to look like those concept solar panel roads.
>>81297476Superglue (everything with "cyanoactylate" or "CA" on the bottle) works by forming a hard microcrystalline lattice between parts. It doesn't melt anything. Its biggest problem is that it flexes poorly and can shatter when dropped, which is why that other anon mentioned 2-part epoxy. IMO epoxy's toxicity and the general pain in the ass of handling it and holding the mini while it sets are absolutely not worth it. It's much easier to pin and superglue something.>order of operationsThat's an individual style thing. I prefer to paint mid to dark to light. Edge highlighting is only one (complicated and often irritating) way to handle volumetric contrast, and I usually recommend blacklining to newbies because it's a LOT easier.>Nostalgia 88Is meant to knockoff the formulations and pigment mixes of the 1988-era GW paints. I've never used it, going for Coat 'D Arms and Privateer P3 (which are meant to do the same)
>>81299638Think they look good so far.
>>81299472>using a toothpick Yes that would be a very good idea; very little room for error. Your glue seems to function with pen precision so could use that either way.while on sprues lightly wash in warm soapy water to remove production oil.
>>81299981>while on sprues lightly wash in warm soapy water to remove production oil.I forgot about that part.To my knowledge from this Warhammer video (with Daddy Duncan Rhodes)https://youtu.be/ENUE0GyQr_o?t=584It mentions soapy water. This soapy water has to specifically be a liquid kind of soap mixed in water, and not bar soap?
>>81300023bruh. stop overthinking.
>>81298722>I've come across second-hand minis that were ruined by non modelling glue.>non modelling glueSo specifically what types of glue are these so I can know to avoid them?
>>81300159now you or some other grem anon are just trolling.
>>81298605Alright bud, I think you are over thinking it all and worried about messing up. As for removing some of the peg and gluing in a pushfit, you remove the peg to give the glue somewhere to go and because all molds have an acceptable range of variation that can cause minor difficulties in getting them to fit. The super glue you posted seems fine. Don't expect to do great the first time, embrace the fact that it won't go perfectly, have fun, and learn.
Just finished this up. I tried starting dark and working up with dry brushing and over brushing with limited use of washes and layering. The arms came out looking pretty flat but oh well. Definitely won't be using this technique again for a whole model.
>>81300429Oh shit, actually looking at the picture blown up it's worse than I thought. There's almost no detail highlighted from the drybrushing. Well fuck.
>>81300473>>81300429Looking good in person is more important than looking good in a super closeup blown up picture on the internet.
>>81300542This, taking a photo of your mini is a great way to see the minor details you might have messed up and get critique, but the view the IRL view will always be a bit different and in the case of minis intended to be used in a wargame, from far closer that you will normally view them from
>>81300560>>81300542Thing is it doesn't look great in person either. I'm not too fussed about it, at least not enough to seriously try to fix it. I was mostly just seeing if I could do a whole mini using almsot nothing but drybrushing over a dark base coat.
>>81300194Unfortunately I'm not.My first miniatures are coming in and I just feel very nervous about even starting because along with wasting food I hate the idea of wasting miniatures and having to paint strip them and risk losing plastic details.>>81300135>bruh. stop overthinking.Okay I will.>>81300411>Don't expect to do great the first time, embrace the fact that it won't go perfectly, have fun, and learn.Alright I'll try anon. Thank you.

Lemme see your battlestations
>>81301365My battlestation is just a picnic table in the middle of a basement.Shit is already disorganized because I'm afraid of moving anything beyond the middle for fear of pushing anything off the desk and maybe making a mess.I need inspiration for what a proper painting table looks like.

Is super glue strong enough to hold magnets or should I be using something else? Is Gorilla Glue a good enough bond to fight against the opposing pull of a magnet? The bits that attach to the mini keep ending up tearing out the inner magnet when I remove them afterwards. I could just not be waiting long enough for the glue to dry before putting the matching magnet on it too right? Maybe I'm retarded.
>>81301750Depends on the size of the magnets. Always wait longer than you think for the magnets to dry. And if it's still not working, you can weaken the magnetic field and almost guarantee that the magnet stays in place by gluing some paper over the magnet and plastic or using some tape.
>>81301750use super glue and a little bit of green stuff
anyone know a good place to get a recast of this model? trying to do a kitbash and really dont want to work with pewter
>>81302049Almost every recaster I've encountered doesn't really do much fantasy and the ones that do tend to only have chaos, chaos dwarves, and some empire. You might have to settle with metal.
Post conversions. Familiars, objective markers and all that little trinket-y shit appreciated.
>>81301626For fucks sake just show us the models
>>81302049Z has it.
>>81301750Simply do a nice cavity for the magnet to sit in, then take care not to fuck up the polarity and fill it with superglue so the magnet is basically trapped in the superglue cast.
>>81302982Recaster known as Z. Chinaman that's been doing it for years, fairly cloak and dagger about the whole thing to avoid GW goons. You'll have to google around to find his email, but he's pretty easy to order through once you get it.

So I just got a foam case for my Army and I am wondering if I am doing this right. As for tools I am using an X-acto knife. And yes I am aware the painting is bad.

>>81303210You shouldn't put the slots that far apart, it'll be a huge waste of space eventually. Use, like, 1cm borders between slots, that's enough.
>>81303214His quality is about on par with most recasters I've ordered from. He is a little pricier but he does have the biggest catalogue out there by far. idc who the other anon orders from, I was just telling him a recaster that I know has the specific model he's looking for.

Recently picked up the hobby again after like 18years break and looking for tips/feedback on my painting.1. Completely forgot about moldlines so wont be doing that mistake again.2. Drybrushing is new to me so im still learning.3. Even though its a DARK angel im painting it looks a bit dark to me. I laid a basecoat of Abbadon Black but should I have gone for a White base?Any tips are welcome.
>>81304620eh she seems alright i aint gonna hate on her; she takes good photos of her other works; she's a really good painter.
>>81304871Damn that pick got ugly, sorry for that.Hope you can see it nonetheless.
>>81304871You can still see some of the black through the green, you need to apply more than one coat of green. Give it multiple thinned down coats until you have complete coverage, then work on learning to highlight and shade the green for a nice colour transition from dark to light.
>>81304871Sure, a few things but pick whichever you feel like doing or all:1. Practicing some smooth coats as other anon suggested. Will help you in all areas of painting2. Work on highlights to help bring out details, I think I see some but it helps to do two layers of highlight, a rough and a finer highlight3.Coincidentally work on shadows, that is easily done with say a shade being brought to recessesLots of tutorials out there, just tweak colours to your preference.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQrABKAtPew&ab_channel=JuanHidalgoMiniatures happens to just be one of the ones I enjoy since it's clean and methodicalAs a tabletop mini it'd probably look fine.
Blatant repost of my Space hulk walls. The white is a warm light grey, looks way brighter in the pic.
>>81305184They're supposed to look like from 70s sci-fi movies. Pic rel. are the original tiles, which kinda sport this look.
>>81305184I went through a phase making basic industrial/steampunk terrain. Buy yourself some apple barrel/folk art paint and huge cheap craft brushes. This paint is for your walls and even most details. Don’t waste expensive hobby paint. Some mogepodge as a primer/sealer will help the terrain be more durable and resistant to humidity. I squirt some black craft paint into the podge jar and mix it up to make a black primer. Even for white walls just start with black so the crevices are dark. Then drybrush with a massive craft brush up to your lighter layers. Decorative jewelry section is a source of gears and snap jewels that can be scifi done cameras or buttons for wall panels. Some painters tape can be used to make shapes like stripes and big arrows on the wall to paint in a bright color like blue to give it a science lab kind of feel. Wall insulation is cheap and better than packing foam.
Is this primer? Retards who spray dollar can hardware store paints on their models kept cluttering up my search results in my effforts to find an actual answer.acrylicosvallejo.com/en/product/hobby/hobby-paint/black-28012/
>>81305290Any spray paint will pretty much work well anon, spray can paint adheres really well to plastic so it will act as primer if it is not labelled as such.
>>81305290Yes. It goes one thin and works great. I use AV's white as well with no chalking issues.Hardware store spray paint does work for the purpose of priming, it is simply a bit thicker and has a danger of more easily clogging details. Works good on terrain though
>>81305297>>81305320Finally, solid answers, thank you.
>>81293034Have you guys ever tried to paint models with felt pens?
>>81305334No. You watched that guy with the weird earrings didnt you?
>>81305320Ah terrain is a really good use for that stuff, I've been using waaay too expensive of spray cans for terrain then fuck
>>81305337Well, no. I remember seeing, somewhere here I think, painting black legion variant scheme (pic) with golden felt pen. Might be misremembering though.
Oh yeah baby its ork time
Has anyone used Greenstuff World's spray primers? How did they compare to the usual suspects?
>>81304876hope she reads this bro
>>81305518she might, she used to post her models here
>>81305334I used them for lazy base rim cleanup.
>>81305290As long as it doesn't say spray+varnish or similar you're good to go (usually intended for painting metal.)
>>81305145Thanks, will look into it.
>>81305561It's good for metallics and necessary for colourshift effects.
>>81305407I only have experience with their airbrush/brush on primers so I can't vouch for their sprays but the airbrush primer is pretty good (I assume it's the same paint)I switched over to them completely from GW primers, it has a very nice matte finish that accepts paint well, though the layer doesn't seem to be as strong as GW primer, so if you touch your mini a lot before varnishing you might rub off paint easier
>>81305561>>81305576Would a satin varnish balance out the gloss nicely to avoid looking moist but still retain shine?
>>81293574>>81293544This is pretty neato. What'd you use for the backpack?
>>81305618Personally i spray matte/satin and then brush on gloss for shiny parts.Satin isn't really shiny it's more.. brushed steel.
>>81305337That guy sucks, he's actively trying to make people paint worse.

>>81305691This is /wip/, any state of completion (even pre-planning) is fine.
>>81305272Thx for the tips my Dude.
>>81305661His audience is people who don't like painting but want to at least have basic level presentable armies. I am torn. On one hand he is actively courting people in the hobby who don't enjoy the hobby aspect (I will never wrap my brain around people who don't like painting in a painted model centric hobby), and giving them techniques that will keep them from advancing. Providing dead end solutions. On the other hand its not like those people aren't flooding into the hobby anyway and at least a basic bitch painted army is better than greytide or an army spitefully fingerpainted 3 colors to be tourney legal
>>81305774This dude. He's not the worst, but only because uncle adam and eons of battle exist.
going to get supplies later today, for an absolute beginner what brushes should I get? One (or two?) for broad fill painting, one for details, maybe one for drybrushing, but what sizes/numbers(?) should those be? And any universally useful paints to grab besides primers? Black, white, gray I assume>captcha: wankait's ok you don't need to call me a faggot the site is already insulting me
>>81302889Working on converting a Necromunda Slave-Ogryn to a Catachan Bullgryn. Still needs some putty work before I'm adding extra bits, and then see if I can add foilage and camouflage to the shield.
>>81305844I own more expensive brushes but no shit, I've been using a Testors 3/0 for a lot of my details lately. Like from a Michaels craft store, don't even think most game stores sell them. Army Painter Wargamer Regiment brush has stood up shockingly long as a medium size workhorse. Then back to the craft store to get a check multi-size pack of brushes. All the big work, and junky work, and drybrushing. Treat every brush you have with Masters Cleaner & preversor and generally kepp them clean and they last ages. I'm a total Vallejo Model Color shill. Best consistent quality paint brand that doesn't have any weird quirks or isn't overpriced. Depends on what you're painting, but I find many uses for stong yellow, red, blue paints (le primary colors). Yellow especially can shift the shade of red and green paints for highlights so you aren't buying 50 shades of the same basic color.
>>81305885I don't get why it angles it while the original on my pc is angled normally.
>>81305844Get cheap ones because you will most likely ruin them.>get a size 0, 1 and 2>get the cheapest pieces of shit they have for terrain and washes>two make up brushes for drybrushing>brush soapDo you have no paints at all? If so, you might want to get a Vallejo starter set (Game or Model) if most of its colours look useful for you
>>81305894Usually happens to phoneposters because the exif data is stripped some the rotation goes wonky. Solved by cropping the image slightly and saving.
>>81305363That'd be doable, felt pens are fairly common in Gunpla and metallic ones in particular are popular for picking out little mechanical details (Bandai even do their own metallic Gunpla Markers which I can confirm are p. good). The only issue I can think of for doing freehand with them is that markers tend to have quite rounded tips rather than fine points, so sharp angles would be tricky
>>81305885>>81305909Should be fixed like this for people who don't want to break their neck.

Aussies deserve the insane prices of hobby and game merchandise
>>81305791Oh, this guy. I like his terrain videos but never watched one of his mini painting ones because I always skip to the end of mini painting videos to see if it turns out good enough to be worth watching or not. dude has genuinely great terrain and boards, mediocre to shit miniatures, and absolutely no regard for personal health and safety.
>>81305970Any aussie worthy of their citizenship knows how to get minis far cheaper or free anyway. let the idiots pay the high prices to keep stull circulating for the rest of us.
>>81305995Like I said, he knows his audience. He isn't going after people who want to continuously improve forever, he is talking to people who want a "quick fix" to make models that squeak by as tabletop quality and stagnate at that skill level forever. Based on my FLGS, there are a lot of people into 40k who almost seem to resent having to paint models, so I'm sure his audiences loves his tips.
>>81306091More people at the flgs gettinng models painted is good, even if they are in the hobby for the wrong reasons. I'd rather play against an army with a low end paintjob than no paint at all.
>>81306110Hence why I'm torn. A meh painted army is better than unpainted, but when I see these people its a "why the fuck are you here?" moment for me internally. Can't control the world I guess.
I think I basecoated while the primer wasn't completely dry, the models look like they were painted with contrast paint. Can I just go on or do I have to strip my guys? I was going to apply a heavy drybrush with another color anyway.
>>81305995>and absolutely no regard for personal health and safety.Never really watched his videos. What hobbying methods does he do that is a little health hazardous?

Any recommendations for lamps to paint with? What kind of bulb should I buy? warm? cold?
>>81306912I got one those sewing lamps

>>81306912I paint with one of these. It really helps me to paint the fine details without having to hold tiny models up to my face. When I position the lamp correct, I can sit in a comfortable position for my back and neck, while resting my hands comfortably to paint. I got one with a 5x lense.
Trying to paint some muscle on the hindleg of this thing, any tips to make it feel more realistic?
>>81307992Real muscle would be more purple as seen on your model near the soulder. Every end of the muscle would end in tendon, which are grayish. To add some colour variety mix in yellow, which would represent fat, near the tendon instertions. If you want to take it further you could try to paint the deep fascia, a thin layer on every muscle. Which would be whitish clouding the muscles.
>>81308041I'll try out a purple shade on it then and use some yellow near de tendons. Thanks man!

I can't seem to get my minis all in focus when I try taking pictures. They always have one limb or weapon closer to the camera and the auto-fucus will either latch on to that or something in the background. How do you get detailed photos of tiny miniatures without any blur?
>>81306499His refusal to wear a respirator (WHICH HE ALREADY FUCKING OWNS) when pouring resin when making terrain has resulted in him becoming sensitized to several different kinds of resin at this point. He's also the only person I have ever heard of who has chemically burned themselves (his face got all swollen too) by using a metric fuck ton of superglue without opening a fucking window. He also uses a blowtorch on Styrofoam inside his house. And thats just the shit I can remember.

>>81315767>Why the fuck does my guardsman have a hard cock for a Lasgun barrel?I know that your question is rhetorical, anon, but:It could be a recast. That's the easy answer. The more complicated answer is that decades ago, back when Citadel used to have a massive warehouse with shelves of bins filled with metal bitz and you could still order them separately by part number, they had a terrible accident where several shelves crashed over and together Mr. Bean-style, spilling all the bins' contents out onto the floor.Instead of employing the manpower to separate millions of tiny metal bitz, they first offered to sell them by the pound via mail order. You could order many pounds worth of bitz at once, but ya got whut ya got. They didn't bother to organize, sort, or separate things at all. I went in with a buddy to order a few pounds, and ended up with a Space Marine Chaplain, a couple of BFG Imperial Navy escort hulls, and a Kasrkin with a shriveled foot, amongst a bunch of other less useful things. Perhaps yer lad was a refugee from that same event all those years ago.

>>81317320Your photography is impeccable, friend.I've followed some of your progress, here. I have to applaud you for finishing your Gravis Armour Captain. Mine's still in pieces. As to your earlier question, though, yes - I think you overdid it with the dry paint. Is that Chronus Blue, then? The highlights on the gorget and the gauntlets make sense, but the helmet seems swathed in it, as if the whole thing is highlighted, and that's not how that's supposed to work. You probably had too much dry paint on the brush or went over it too many times. For the gold on the plastron and greaves, I'd heartily recommend a wash. The "official" choice is probably Seraphim Sepia, but I have come to appreciate how Reikland Fleshshade looks instead. That my ladz wear red armour might have something to do with that, though. Finally ... I noticed your transfers look a little rough, especially on the left poleyn. Watch the transfers video in the OP. He knows what he's talking about.
>>81317672Thanks its just diy lightbox and iphone 11. Yes thats chronus blue and yes I just swatted the whole face. This is my second time using dry paints I still need some practice. Ive only started painting a month ago. pic. first time using dry paints
