>mantic dwarfs
I like their cartoony look to them.
Its like they were an attempt at creating "rejuvenated" old miniatures kind of look to them.
I respect Mantic for trying to create their own style of dwarfs, but I totally understand if they aren't someone else's cup of tea.

Since were on the topic of dwarfs and their beards.
Does anybody know of some dwarf miniatures that deviate from the traditional Citadel looking dwarfs?
I only know of Mantic dwarfs that were designed by designers trying to make their miniatures stand out from Citadel miniatures where other manufacturers made miniatures that look like they could blend in with Citadel minis.

What sets apart dwarves from humans isn't the idiotic idea of beards, beards, and more fucking beards, it's the stout and heavyset bodies. All dwarves are thick, thick boned, thick muscled, just thick in all ways, like a boulder sat squat in the road. 4e D&D really understood this on a deep level with its dwarf aesthetics. If you removed a dwarf's beard, it should still be obvious you are dealing with a dwarf by their heavy set and almost square-like heads.

This is the story that Mbe’kes tell.
Long ago, dwarves marched upwards on a Quest for Sky. They saw many wondrous things on that march;
temples and treasures, magics and mysteries. One group of dwarves, who would later become Mbe’kes, finally
emerged in a sheltered valley.

They looked about the rocky sides of the valley, and they looked at the great blue thing above and mistook
it for just one more cavern, if perhaps larger than most. Sages stroked their beards and engineers hefted their
tools, and the dwarves set about breaching the vault of the sky. They climbed the tallest mountain in the land,
braced the sky properly, and started digging. Dwarves, of course, can dig through anything, and so quite soon they
broke through the sky into the Plane of Air.

The mercantile and cloud dragon friendly Mbe'ke are one of the five dwarven cultures of notAfrica in PFs Golarion setting, with the nomadic diplomats of the Taralu, the Pahmet dwarves of Osirion, the atheist Vahird of Rahadoum, and the Kulenett dwarves beneath necromantic Geb.

>Does anybody know of some dwarf miniatures that deviate from the traditional Citadel looking dwarfs?

As far as I know the majority of miniature designers up until recently where 3D models can now be 3D printed and somehow companies can be commissioned to make molds for them to be casted. All of this seemed to be clustered in Britain, Spain, and very select few parts of the US.

Mantic's dwarfs seem to be some of few examples of miniature design that deviates from Citadel designed looking miniatures.

This may not count, but WarmongerMiniatures sells metal miniatures which if I am correct are still made in the original ways in how metal minis were first sculpted.

They still look to be like OldCitadel miniatures, but it seems that style is mostly abandoned now so I think they somewhat count.
>>
I really dislike the idea that dwarven women have beards, it just feels like such a meme. I love the idea that dwarves try to make themselves look older to gain clout though. Age is wisdom and wisdom is power.

The original dwarves in Norse mythology were called Dark or Black Elves and looked just like Light Elves but with brown to coal-black skin. Just as beautiful, just as powerful, but with all the cultural and social traits we associate with dwarves. The hairy midget thing was introduced later. Original flavor Norse dwarves inspired Tolkien's Noldor.

Nothing you remotely like about dwarves outside of smithing expertise come from the Norse dwarves. Tolkien jew dwarves predominate media depictions because there's practically nothing redeeming about old Norse dwarves.

Gimli is less xenophobic than other Dwarves and maybe more selfless? But I wouldn't see him as a complete outlier. He seems to think that no Dwarf would destroy the beauty of the Glittering Caves for profit, and I always took that as a retcon of The Hobbit rather than Gimli lying or being mistaken.
Obviously, movie Gimli is a comedic relief Scot and lacks the thoughtful and artistic moments Gimli has in Tolkien's work.
>>
>>81292938
Blame the authors and worldbuilders that took ideas and lore tidbits from Tolkien and generalized/overemphasized them into stereotype territory.
Of course, Tolkien described beards as very important to Dwarves and female Dwarves as being indistinguishable from male Dwarves by outsiders, but it was just something he made up for their background and not central to every Dwarven character.

The only real way that works is if beards aren't as prominent as we're lead to believe by what we've seen with Dwarves but culturally important like some sort of rite of passage or status symbol for accomplished men but even then it still leaves Dwarven women as very broad masculine women. Which ironically means >>81295107 doesn't work either.

>>81340995
I can't with foxes, because I don't know about them (and they might not have much facial sexual dimorphism? Idk).
But I'm fairly sure I could distinguish a female and a male dwarf if one had a beard (as Dwarf males have almost all the time) and the other didn't.
I'm not saying Tolkien stated this unequivocally and that everyone who thinks Dwarven women didn't have beards is 100% wrong, but I just can't imagine how Men would be unable to tell the difference when their race has similar faces and exhibits the same sexual dimorphism when it comes to facial hair.
