>>81292938If your dwarves don't have big beards they're just alcoholic midgets.

>>81292938dwarves are not born with beards, they grow their beards once they reach puberty at the age of 50

>>81292938What an autistic grievance.>Hey guys the origin of this thing wasn't actually like this! That means it's wrong! Look at how smart I am!
>>81295072The origin is actually irrelevant. OP is retarded by pointing it out. However, the beard obsession itself is pure faggotry and autism, and thus at least OP is right on that.
>>81294740youre cracking the code anon, somehow environments shape the things that live there crazy huh
>>81295107The women having beards is stupid They should have 80’s teir hair that makes every other races female red with envy because the dwarven woman don’t need hair products to have kick ass hair styles
>>81295555>They should have 80’s teir hairI actually love this idea
>>81292938>Today I'm gonna be mad about fantastical creatures' pilosityAnd mythical goblins aren't exclusively green or bald, and mythical elfs aren't necessarily tall or beardless, and the erlking is a goblin albeit being named elf king, and mythical hobgoblins are just goblins, and mythical drow are just goblins, and mythical leprechaun are just goblins, and mythical brownies are just goblins, and...does it matter?
>>81295555Why not both?
>>81295967It really is goblins all the way down
Do dwarf beards really have to be so comically long?Any examples of dwarfs with beards that aren't long enough to be a liability in combat?
>>81296194Because women with beards are stupid They should have 80’s teir hair that makes every other races female red with envy because the dwarven woman don’t need hair products to have kick ass hair styles
>>81296256The beard should depend on their roll in society
>>81296256the Delcourt comics Dwarves comic series by Soleil, most of the dwarves have more reasonable beards. even a lot of the really big beards are just a matter of perspective because they're so short
>>81296264why not both?
>>81296256>mantic dwarfsI like their cartoony look to them. Its like they were an attempt at creating "rejuvenated" old miniatures kind of look to them.I respect Mantic for trying to create their own style of dwarfs, but I totally understand if they aren't someone else's cup of tea.Since were on the topic of dwarfs and their beards.Does anybody know of some dwarf miniatures that deviate from the traditional Citadel looking dwarfs?I only know of Mantic dwarfs that were designed by designers trying to make their miniatures stand out from Citadel miniatures where other manufacturers made miniatures that look like they could blend in with Citadel minis.
>>81294740The beards, that's how.
>>81296484Eurovision has to be scheme for embezzling taxpayer money.
What sets apart dwarves from humans isn't the idiotic idea of beards, beards, and more fucking beards, it's the stout and heavyset bodies. All dwarves are thick, thick boned, thick muscled, just thick in all ways, like a boulder sat squat in the road. 4e D&D really understood this on a deep level with its dwarf aesthetics. If you removed a dwarf's beard, it should still be obvious you are dealing with a dwarf by their heavy set and almost square-like heads.
>>81295555i always thought that disciples 2 female dwarves gad the correct amount of beard
>>81297180TBF, Dark Sun had the idea first. 4e just reintroduced it.
>>81297180Paizo are also the only ones to truly understand this and apply it. Look at this portrait. It is so clearly a dwarf, and yet he is dark-skinned without a beard.>>81297217I don't really remember darksun dwarves, but old 2e art tended to make dwarves too human-shaped.
>>81297269Dark Sun dwarves had no beards, but were usually really burly, with inhumanly broad heads. Like this.
>>81295107I do not like this image.
>>81297343They also had klingon-style forehead ridges sometimes.
>>81297269>that filenameNice!>>81297180I think you've nailed it right there. The thick bones, muscles/heavyset nature of dwarf anatomy is what separates them from halflings/gnomes, right?

>>81297269>Black dwarfSo it's a society of thieves? They blend in with the darkness of the caves.
>>81297522>that filenameThis is the story that Mbe’kes tell.Long ago, dwarves marched upwards on a Quest for Sky. They saw many wondrous things on that march;temples and treasures, magics and mysteries. One group of dwarves, who would later become Mbe’kes, finallyemerged in a sheltered valley. They looked about the rocky sides of the valley, and they looked at the great blue thing above and mistookit for just one more cavern, if perhaps larger than most. Sages stroked their beards and engineers hefted theirtools, and the dwarves set about breaching the vault of the sky. They climbed the tallest mountain in the land, braced the sky properly, and started digging. Dwarves, of course, can dig through anything, and so quite soon theybroke through the sky into the Plane of Air.The mercantile and cloud dragon friendly Mbe'ke are one of the five dwarven cultures of notAfrica in PFs Golarion setting, with the nomadic diplomats of the Taralu, the Pahmet dwarves of Osirion, the atheist Vahird of Rahadoum, and the Kulenett dwarves beneath necromantic Geb.>>81298051I here an heroing is a good practice for types like you.
>>81292938It turns out the standard fantasy dwarf isn't very interesting and people think they can fill the gap whete character should be with body hair.
>>81298363EewwwwIn grown character development
>>81296194that just looks like a gay man, namely that youtube DM with pink hair who got cancelled for molesting a fantasy character
>>81297269Not gonna lie, if someone showed me this picture and told me it was a halfling and not a dwarf I'd have 0 reason to doubt them
>>81297180except for the pose this is perfect, they managed to make this one sort of attractive as well. Having big poofy hair with the same braid design as the male beards is a very nice choice.

>>81296484Not the broken-record anon, but I prefer your first "why not both" example. This looks... uncanny valley levels of shopped.
>>81298340>SJW hair>Some sort of ugly dragonNope. 1000X nope.
Honestly I'd like to see some Dwarves of the more magical classes. It seems like every dwarf nation is populated solely by fighters, clerics/paladins of dwarf supremacy, and mechanical engineers.
>>81295107>Elon Musk had test tube babies with one of these.
>>81297180akshually dwarfs in mythology and folklore were scrawny and shifty looking as often as if not more often than not.
>>81295107Based.>>81295555Also based. Do any of you dwarfchads have the non-ant version of this? I feel like it was something funny or important but I fucked up and saved the thumbnail.
>>81298340I here dilating is a good practice for types like you.The an heroing part will take care of its self.
>>81296981>Does anybody know of some dwarf miniatures that deviate from the traditional Citadel looking dwarfs? As far as I know the majority of miniature designers up until recently where 3D models can now be 3D printed and somehow companies can be commissioned to make molds for them to be casted. All of this seemed to be clustered in Britain, Spain, and very select few parts of the US.Mantic's dwarfs seem to be some of few examples of miniature design that deviates from Citadel designed looking miniatures. This may not count, but WarmongerMiniatures sells metal miniatures which if I am correct are still made in the original ways in how metal minis were first sculpted. They still look to be like OldCitadel miniatures, but it seems that style is mostly abandoned now so I think they somewhat count.
I really dislike the idea that dwarven women have beards, it just feels like such a meme. I love the idea that dwarves try to make themselves look older to gain clout though. Age is wisdom and wisdom is power.Actually kind of like the idea of Dwarf women being kept at home and being rarely seen. Maybe wearing some kind of Naqab..
>>81298363>It turns out the standard fantasy dwarf isn't very interesting"The Dwarves have dug too deep, too greedily..." does not strike anyone as a Dwarf thing anymore. They seem more representative of humanity than humans themselves.
>>81311094What you just described is way more of a meme in my opinion.
>>81293138They're still alcoholic midgets. Dwarves are the most useless fantasy race.
>>81312785If your dwarf doesn't pass for Gimli then are you really playing a dwarf?
>>81294740I always picture elves as poncy Unabombers.
>>81292938>dwarfs in Norse mythologyThe original dwarves in Norse mythology were called Dark or Black Elves and looked just like Light Elves but with brown to coal-black skin. Just as beautiful, just as powerful, but with all the cultural and social traits we associate with dwarves. The hairy midget thing was introduced later. Original flavor Norse dwarves inspired Tolkien's Noldor.
>>81301868I think that's just white hair being illuminated by a bright blue light either behind her or emanating from her, but it's kind of hard to tell when it's cut out like this
>>81296981I like the Oathmark dwarves
>>81292938This is why you do the far superior Egyptian Dwarves.
>>81305469>dwarfs in mythology and folkloreThey're often lumped in with Elves and Gnomes in folklore, so it's not quite right to say that it's fantasy Dwarves. Though having Elves, Dwarves, and/or Gnomes be related would make for an interesting dynamic.
>>81315766Wrong, there were three types of elfLight elf, Dark elf, and Deep elfDeep elves were synonymous with dwarfs In some stories and not in others. They were also not described as dark skinned.
Paul Bonner draws by far the best dwarves. It's not even close. And the best trolls, and the best dragons.

>>81297256I don’t know if its because of all the dwarf fetishists I’ve come across lurking on this board, but I’ve really come around to chicks with sideburns
>>81317998Those were literally just humans with dwarfism, anon. The Egyptians just had this weird reverse prejudice going on where they assumed dwarfs were superhumanly intelligent and talented (because of their belief that the gods wouldn't allow a useless person to live, and these ones are clearly not useful for manual labor, ergo they're surely supreme tailors)
>>81295107Dull beards on Dwarf females is no but I STRONGLY support long sideburns.
>>81321733er, full beards
>>81297269Was this character created as a homage to Gary Coleman?
>>81321412>Those were literally just humans with dwarfism, anon. This program has been brought to you by real life dwarfism, their mythology with Bes, and Homo Neanderthals.
>>81292938Nothing you remotely like about dwarves outside of smithing expertise come from the Norse dwarves. They were these vindictive, capricious and occasionally horny little goblin creatures the Norse gods would swindle to get good loot. Tolkien jew dwarves predominate media depictions because there's practically nothing redeeming about old Norse dwarves.
>>81292938Anon clearly Dwarfs have beardsAnd airshipsSome free ones here if you want >>81324151
>>81322398Zoomers think elves are vegan because they read Eragon instead of Lord of the Rings.
Bearded females is a forced meme they keep trying to push and it's never gonna catch on.
>>81324273Vegan elves are the same level of strawman stupidity you get from writers infinitely regurgitating the trash of older writers that gave us dwarfs who are entire race of Gimli, who even within the context of Lord of the Rings wasn't all that typical of dwarves.
>>81293138Midgets don't have clawed feet and cow tails
>>81297269Looks like a halfling ngl
>>81315766>just as beautifulthey're explicitely described as ugly>>81318278Also wrong. The terms Dark and black elf are used interchangeably in the eddas. I'd like to add, though, that norse "myth" isn't a mythology the same way greek or egyptian is, and most of what we know is specifically from iceland and after several centuries of a christian europe.
>>81324894>They're described as uglyQuote it.
>>81295555Dwarven women also have absolutely magnificent beards that they carefully style. They're just covering a different set of lips.
>>81328399>they mad ugly - Snorri Sturluson
>>81324273Well, the Green Elves in the Silmarillion are vegetarian, at least. But they don't exist anymore when LotR takes place.>>81324541Gimli is less xenophobic than other Dwarves and maybe more selfless? But I wouldn't see him as a complete outlier. He seems to think that no Dwarf would destroy the beauty of the Glittering Caves for profit, and I always took that as a retcon of The Hobbit rather than Gimli lying or being mistaken.Obviously, movie Gimli is a comedic relief Scot and lacks the thoughtful and artistic moments Gimli has in Tolkien's work.
>>81292938Blame the authors and worldbuilders that took ideas and lore tidbits from Tolkien and generalized/overemphasized them into stereotype territory. Of course, Tolkien described beards as very important to Dwarves and female Dwarves as being indistinguishable from male Dwarves by outsiders, but it was just something he made up for their background and not central to every Dwarven character.
>>81322875Unknown but here's possibly Robin Williams as a dwarf.
>>81292938>2The beings that we refer to as elf and dwarves were both the same creature in Norse mythology. They had a few names for them, but they used them interchangeably.
>>81297216>>81297256Based always good to remember Disciples 2 exists
>>81334731That's very debatable.
>>81295107The only way I'd accept female dwarf beards is if all elves had breasts regardless of sex.>stupid humans can't tell the difference between a she-elf's pert, feminine boobs and a he-elf's perky, masculine titties
>>81296194That's not 80's hair, that's just a pornstar haircut that has gotten out of control
>>81333053It's from that version of Good Will Hunting where he's a lowly apprentice with a great talent for magic and must repent for his crimes by consulting with a mysterious dwarf.
>>81334731I'd have elves and dwarves as the same species. And giants. They grow smaller with age, you see.
>>81297269>old 2e art tended to make dwarves too human-shaped.Yeah, it wasn't really until 3E that D&D really started to make dwarves "short but incredibly broad and meaty" to give them a more human like mass and distinct visual identity from Hobbits/gnomes.
>>81330528>Of course, Tolkien described beards as very important to Dwarves and female Dwarves as being indistinguishable from male Dwarves by outsidersI'd interpret this as male and female dwarves having the same facial features. For example, can you tell if either of these foxes is male or female?
>>81292938Are we supposed to take your whining seriously?
>>81333053>Unknown but here's possibly Robin Williams as a dwarf.>It IS your fault, and it's going in the Book of Grudges
>>81340995The only real way that works is if beards aren't as prominent as we're lead to believe by what we've seen with Dwarves but culturally important like some sort of rite of passage or status symbol for accomplished men but even then it still leaves Dwarven women as very broad masculine women. Which ironically means >>81295107 doesn't work either.
>>81340995I can't with foxes, because I don't know about them (and they might not have much facial sexual dimorphism? Idk). But I'm fairly sure I could distinguish a female and a male dwarf if one had a beard (as Dwarf males have almost all the time) and the other didn't. I'm not saying Tolkien stated this unequivocally and that everyone who thinks Dwarven women didn't have beards is 100% wrong, but I just can't imagine how Men would be unable to tell the difference when their race has similar faces and exhibits the same sexual dimorphism when it comes to facial hair.
>>81342703Was this drawn by an elementary schooler?
>>81340995No but I can tell whoever saved that image is a furry.
