Working on a CYOA about being a prophet in the holy city of a thousand petty creeds –that is to say, another person on the street claiming to be the messiah, whilst half a dozen other people on the same street are claiming the exact same thing (think "Life of Brian"). Sections for choosing things like your personal traits, tenets and traditions of your creed, and the makeup of your flock (the system for that last one being kinda based off of the Warlord CYOAs in terms of purchasing various 'units')If anyone has any comments or suggestions for anything, I'm all ears!

I'm still planning out the fantasy race creator CYOA, but I'm getting stuck on supernatural/magical racial traits. I need a lot more of them.Things like darkvision, vampirism, weakness to silver, demonic blood, and so on. Not spells, just traits. Bonus points for anything that is both good and bad, not just pure perks or flaws.Anybody want to contribute an idea?

>>79729200Oh yeah, I've got plenty of non-supernatural traits already. Redundant organs is already in. If I get too specific, like that kind of snail that kills prey by injecting insulin, then I'm never going to finish this CYOA.I'm trying to make a lot of the options open-ended enough that people can include weird stuff like that by fluffing out their own descriptions. At this point, I'm taking inspiration from nature to make my options include more ideas, without actually expanding the trait list into infinity. I have to find pictures for all of this stuff after all.Right now I just need supernatural traits for magical races, though I'll consider any suggestion.

>>79728945Fantasy race creator as in, adding fantasy races to the modern world, or changing some part of modern populace to fantasy races, or adding fantasy races to a fictional world? If the latter, I would want half the CYOA to be descriptions of the world they will live in.Then the traits could be contextual to the setting features like some particular biomes or moon phases.

>>79729351Okay how about... Natural teleportation? Being "split" into a small invididual hivemind that represents the collective whole of that person? Getting one "self" killed is obviously very very bad for your mental health. Hmmm how about... Metals reacting violently to the presence of this race making them considerably more resistant to metal based attacks (AKA: Almost any sort of projectile or melee weapon) BUT this also makes it so that for obvious reasons using anything that has metal on it will end up badly not to mention how awful it is on coexisting with them when your sick car or whatever starts getting fucked when your buddy gets too close. Oh and how about that that thing godzilla does where it just makes energy and then it just shoots it like a fucking laser. Radiation poisoning or whatever might or might not happen without the proper precautions applied to others or yourself. Also something about getting kidnapped and used as a battery.Add neoteny pls

>>79729493I don't actually; good suggestion. I'm trying to keep it somewhat around the theme of sentient fantasy races, so I'm avoiding crossing a line of going too far into alien monsters...But I do have an eldritch race type with some alien stuff in it, so maybe I'll throw bio-swarm organism into that category.>>79729546Current idea for the plot is that a new fantasy world is being created, and you'll be one of its creators. Your first task is to create one of the races that will be filling it.I have a few different ideas of how I want to flesh out the world, but I'm still searching for the sweet spot between having established lore of a world that you add something to, vs giving the player a lot more freedom to shape it.I think what I'm going to do, is add a few different worlds to pick from similar to how Dawn of a Demon Lord 1.3 does it. You get semi-established worlds with some lore to drop into, but you can also pick a setting that fits your race/plans.>>79729560Natural teleportation feels like it's too much in the domain of spellcasting rather than supernatural traits. The metal thing too. If metal is melting, or vibrating out of existence in my presence, then that's more like an active spell ability draining mana than a racial quirk. Godzilla laser is also a bit much for a race ability, but I do have dragon's breath. Similar function but less OP.No "neoteny" option specifically, but I already have it in mind. There will be options to build that with smaller size, cuter features, development speed, etc.

>>79730351All black, no regrets. Part of me would be tempted to do PR just to dunk on them, but then I remember that the setting exists to shit on people like me.
>>79730237>I think what I'm going to do, is add a few different worlds to pick from similar to how Dawn of a Demon Lord 1.3 does it.The Dawn of a Demon Lord 1.3 way was cool, although the reason it worked well was because an intense contest to death between the players in each world is implied, which makes you consider the details with extra care. If you do not have a similarly intense contest, and the world is instead more like a sandbox to have fun in, then I advise for a single more detailed world.I may be biased, I really have a thing for fictional settings with a world map provided, and with notes for what is going on in what part of the map.
>>79730400>So long as the cyoa has a way to build a loli race, that is and should be enough.Absolutely this. Not every cyoa needs some explicit loli option. Being loli-friendly like >>79730237 is talking about is perfectly adaquite.

>>79730605>AHS chose master bait
>>79730596>Good doesn't have to mean the same thing to everyone. No it doesn’t, but part of the obligation to make a good cyoa is to make it good to many anons so long as it doesn’t compromise anything.Adding loli options to a fantasy race builder is common sense stuff.
>>79730620One group is by definition not the general as a whole.
>>79730626Truly, Planeswalkers Rising was the ultimate bait.
>>79730636Of course not. But one group, especially such a large and integral group, is a significant part of the general.
>>79730648>>79730630The majority is not inherently superior. It does makes sense in this case and the author is carefree, doesn't mean that an author always owes anything to anyone.
>>79730636He didn’t say it was. But loli options do help the general as a whole, along with making the cyoa better for many anons in the general. Moreover, keeping loli options out of a cyoa like that would be nothing short of a shitpost or purposeful bait. Every other race builder has something like that, and it fits well when so many races in anime are loli.
>>79730674>The majority is not inherently superior. No but they do matter.
>When you post on my general, you take on a debt. A debt you owe me, personally. Each and every author on my general owes me one hundred fat loli asses. And I want my asses. And y'all will get me my asses.
>>79730681>keeping loli options out of a cyoa like that would be nothing short of a shitpost or purposeful bait.This. If he released a cyoa of that genre without some kind of ability to make a loli race, especially with how many loli races there are in anime, it would cause a massive shitstorm as anons would point out that there was every reason for him to have that option and very few reasons for not having it.
>>79730706I kneel, original cyoa poster, I will give unto you all 100 loli asses
>>79730681Expectation that all cyoa be for everyone helps nobody. >>79730724>Expectation that all cyoa be for everyone helps nobody.Nobody expects that all cyoas should be for everyone. But lots of people do expect something remotely resembling a loli.

>>79730752You should always consider the audience. If I made a shit eating cyoa then I wouldn’t expect it to be liked by anyone.
>>79730761They either matter more than author intent or they don't. The majority are no more worthy of catering than any other group, the main reason it should be a consideration for the author is more abundant feedback and (you)s. Other than that they're free to make something so obscure that it vanishes immediately on release, that itself is feedback enough.
>>79730777id like it, anon
>>79730783>They either matter more than author intent or they don't.Author intent is a partnership with the community. Always has been, always will be.
>>79730777The general is not homogenous. There are niches that would never get content if the majority always got preferential treatment. >>79730798>there is no power to justify making demands.Being the community, the audience, and the makers of other cyoas, all of these at the very least justify respect.
>>79730803It is when you argue that what the majority wants overrides other considerations. They're as important as an author believes them to be, no more.>>79730811Yet you are saying that heterogenous minority tastes need to bent towards the majority's and so force some homogenity onto it.
>>79730798>There are niches that would never get content if the majority always got preferential treatment. It's not like adding a loli option to a cyoa instantly destroys all other tastes in the general, faggot.
>>79730833>what the majority wants overrides other considerations.Like what? What other consideration applies in this case? The loli option makes sense from every angle. Why are you shitting so hard on the fantasy race guy for doing exactly what you say he should?
>>79730396This is very similar to an option that I've already added. It lets you take body parts from others and add them to yourself. This trait shifts your race toward demonic, and will be expensive on top of that.>>79730469Great suggestions, especially that last one. It's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for right now.>>79730280>>79730308This is a CYOA about taking generalized options, and mixing things to build what you want from them. >>79730823So do niche tastes when they run counter to the majority.>>79730841Of course not. It's not like not adding a loli option disembowels all who enjoy them. >>79731115Yes, demanding the majority get special considerations when something isn't for them is disrespect. When something is for them (which being the majority most things presumably are) what niches want means diddly squat.
>>79731132>when something isn't for themThat's just the point. Most cyoas should be for the majority. All cyoas should consider them as an important part of the audience. And (as the poll proved) the majority of anons tend to agree on what they like.

>>79731332Not really, I don't care that I like some niche stuff because getting catering occasionally beats getting none at all. I always said it was factional autism because that's what the cyoa is clearly built from and to encourage, anyone spamming "8 white" ignored that things like self-insertion or character are suited to different things and enjoyed in different contexts.
>>79731350>anyone spamming "8 white"Except there wasn't anyone. Looking at the last results no one ever said 8 white. Almost like the moralfag shitposters have drastically diminished numbers and the anti-vpn protection showed that.

What should be the minimum number of options that should appear in a CYOA, if the Player can only take 3 choices from an option pool like skills and etc? 15? 20? The pool has to be large to allow for diversity.

You can create the first one by combining unlimited lifespan, larval stage, and creation ritual, the last one being an arcane type trait. The second one intrigues me, but I think that non-sentient races are outside of the scope of this CYOA. I could maybe have a way to a dumber race to grow smarter temporarily, but that's not as good as your idea raw.Third one fits into the automaton race, which can be combined with a different race and fluffed as the player deems appropriate.
>>79731938I like the last for the apparently biological. Seeing them stuff minerals down their gullet and then belch fire from their non flame-proof throat is a neat image though if you're making things modular "strange sustenance" ought to be an easy option alongside more regular "hearty appetite" options. You could also have weirder stuff like dream-eaters.

Can somebody please post Witch Redux? I had a cool thought in the shower today, of Witches 'coming out' and revealing themselves to the public.. and of me descending from my magic carpet outside of the club, my familiar at my side, being a sick ass party warlock.I know it sounds dorky but I want to make a build optimized for a "witches are known" timeline haha
I had a cool thought in the shower today, how would Sonic the hedgehog fare in WH40k
>>79735638Badly. Knuckles would be a way better option as in the 40k universe he would be faster than sonic while being a hell of a bruiser.
>>79735740>>79735764>>79735789Holy fuck I've never seen this part, is it new/ Thanks so much
>>79735910It's fairly new yes, though it's not by the original author. Some guy on reddit made it. I think this is actually his second update on the redux version too.I like some aspects of it, other parts honestly just piss me off though. The different witch types has been outright ruined for example, the balance has been all fucked up and there's no good reason to take anything but academic or warlock IMO. It also really spits on the original by showering the male witch/warlock with options and points, which emans it makes no sense for witches to be mostly female anymore and it kills the fun of seeing which anons would trade their dick for more power. Really killed the comfy witch theme in favour of some aromage-tier WOD cringey bullshit too, and there's probably half a dozen other things I could bitch endlessly about since I love the original. It's still better than that pile of shit wizard version that 'tard made though.
>>79736319The Redux has a bunch of weirdness. Naturally you will want to spend points vertically anyway, so the Restriction drawbacks for the other categories just give free perks? And there is a drawback for each witch type, but you can change it for another drawback for free, so it just means each witch has to take 1 any drawback? What is even the point of mentioning it then?Still,>aromage-tieris too harsh. Not sure what is so specifically unlikeable about Aromage, but I become bored the moment I set my eyes on her CYOAs, this one I sort of enjoyed.>Some guy on reddit made it.I recognize the style and fonts, it must be the guy who made a CYOA about different kinds of immortality. I rather liked that one.
>>79735789Where is The Beastairy though, I need it for my companion's epic form>>79736319I agree, it's oozing reddit and in terms of a well made CYOA, the original is better. I just like this one because it has more content which lets my mind do imaginations more. I understand your frustration though absolutely.
>>79736661speaking of bestiariesWHERE THE FUCK IS V7
>>79736547Yeah, the drawbacks for witch types are among the weirder things about it. Like, the enchantress is the absolute worst for this. Take warlock, take the enchantress drawback and you've got an ersatz enchantress with a ton more points. And hag, the whole point is power at the price of ugliness. But we can remove the ugly drawback? So is the hag still ugly or what? It'd make sense if the drawbacks were fixed for witch types but you could also take them as other witches, but it's clearly not that so who the fuck knows. They also added a bunch of new schools of magic, but didn't increase how many power points you actually get, which is weird. And the academic witch in general fucks with the balancing. Honestly they should all have some option of gaining more points, or the whole thing should be thrown out. I say Aromage tier just because I find her work tends to have some real kitchen sink approaches to worldbuilding. It can't just have magic. It has to have magic and demigods and demons and nanotechnology and cybernetic arms. She actually did do a pretty cool symbiote CYOA that I really like though, so there's that. And yeah, it actually is the immortality types guy. Which was pretty great.>>79736661Honestly I completely get you, I still do like some aspects of this, I just really loved the original so Ive got a bunch to bitch at. The redux is a George Lucas CYOA. It'd be great if he employed someone to slap him when he had stupider ideas.
