Not to worry anon, you can get greatsword helmets online and kitbash them with black knight helmet bits

>>78554327
I guess it is a different perspective. In WFB the civilised world was mostly intact, facing threat from Chaos.

In AoS, Chaos is ascendant with civilisation being the upstart. It does weirdly make Chaos feel weaker in AoS since they don't really win much.
>>
What's the roll of flagellants? Spikey damage + mw as they flee? Are they any good?
>>
>>78554302
I actually like that the 'good guys' are the invaders in AoS. It's a nice twist on the formula.
>>
>>78554266
they are the mediocre update everyone was half expecting for their transition to plastic
they lost any kind of presence and weight, movement or restraint
the kit visibly suffers for the compromises taken to make all bits interchangeable in a mixed gender unit and their visual characterisation as "the super heavy cavalry" has been replaced with larger decorations on the armour
which only end up making the rider look smaller underneath
>>
>>78554364

Just the low T faggots here hate them. And you notice that it's cuck posting when they do screech, because they have no defense, both lore wise and rule wise, against us. It's literally just shitposting and coping.

It's mainly just pathetic Spiderfang and Brayherd players that pissed off that the Lumineth are more relevant to the narrative than they are. Because everybody wants a fucking Spider Goblin story.

That could work really well actually. I'm making my own troll king to replace throgg. I'm riffing on the sword in the stone myth by having my dankhold just rip the sword out, but I'll model a hunk of stone attached to the end of the blade

Don't be so quick. They've already established all the prep work to turn CoS into Empire 2.0, which is IMO what it should have been from the beggining. It'll also mean it won't be stuck with using cities as allegiances.

I keep waiting for some 'new' faction to jump in with from the start. So far, nothing has worked for me.

Kharadron? Flight stands.
Idoneth? Hard to paint and flight stands.
OBR? Chunky bodies and retard faces dont work for me.
Lumineth? Bad faces, bad hats, stupid mounts, everyone wearing pyjamas, Teclis is the worst 'centrepiece big boy model' GW has yet released.

Other hybrid releases like GSG or SGL dont work for me since some kits are old and languishing in the dust compared to the new, things like grots, grave guard etc.

Your entire range is NPE, and the only hurdle is learning how to play AoS. Having a remote competency and not being a retard to use your buffs makes you Extremely powerful and breaking many of the normal conventions of how the game is played. No LoS on archers, moving 121inches, double activations, auto hitting, auto casting, auto unbinding. I think the new models are cool but playing you is ass

Yeah, same. I was interested in them when first announced, spent months bitching about the designs online after the Cow reveal, tentatively got the initial box just to make up my mind but I actually fucking love the models once I got my hands on them, even Stoneguard.

I think long term when I finally get everything painted they might be my favorite army.

Spiders, regular foot grots/shooty grots and some heroes are old and shit.
>>
>>78554731
I have a similar problem but I decided to just go with soulblight gravelords and not buy any old models, even if it means just being a paint only dude for a while.
But I get more satisfaction out of painting stuff than playing, just been limited to underworlds til now.
>>
>>78554702
There are models that take a day each and models that you can do 10-20 a day.

I try to calculate how much time I'm gonna spend, and try to earn 40-50€ every day (focus on "try").

That usually means normal troops cost 4,5€ each, with elites going to 6-7€, but it can swing a lot.
A horde of Skellies is different from Khinerai.

Also basing and/or building take time and cost money.
>>
>>78554763
Not him but while the grots are fine I the scuttle boss and spider riders could use a update. The spider riders less so but they add showing their age a bit.

The spider line is pretty limited in general I'd like to see a expansion

>>
>>78554678
The rules are very strong and the lore is actually interesting. The models though are the legit criticism. Outside of the basic high elf copy pasta they are full of bizarre helmets, odd animal theming and extreme dynamic posing on a rock. Plus pajamas.

Flamers of Tzeentch can Fly in AoS, but for some reason can't in Warcry

And you can't even explain it by them "not actually flying but leaping" because Squigs can "Fly" in both AoS AND Warcry, despite not actually being capable of Flight
>>
>>78557832
Warcry has S/T, I guess one game can't have everything.
>>
I really like Liberator asthetics.
>>
>>78557382

>>
>>78557878
It just seems like a mistake to me, considering, i'm fairly certain, that no other Fly-capable unit in AoS loses its Fly-capability in Warcry.

Finished my first army
Far from a good one, but so far it's been a lot of fun to unload cannon barrages and hope to highroll D6 rolls on TTS while practicing before getting to play it IRL
>>
>>78557832
The flying rule in AoS is mostly on a bunch of things that don't take off into the air just for the sake of keeping it simple.
>>
>>78558044
Like Squigs that are just hopping around (kind of like Flamers that are described as jumping and hopping around), but Squigs CAN Fly in Warcry but Flamers CAN'T

That's my issue. The lack of consistency.
>>
>>78558037
Man I've been thinking about playing on TTS but I dont know where I'd start as someone who is completely new to the game rules/system

>>
>>78558095
Once you get someone else who knows the rules it's pretty simple, just get models for your faction from the map with stuff from that faction, a map to play on (i use mostly Deinok AoS 2021) and you can just play
I don't enjoy using it too much as it's kinda clunky but it's great for trying out armies/lists before you get the real thing
>>
>>78554535
Yeah.
>Squat resin Warpriests
Okay, that's fair I guess but surely they'll keep the warscroll given the plastic heroes from the War Altar kit?
>Squat the War Altar too
>Keep the Hurricanum which shares half the sprues with the War Altar
Oh... Well, at-least we have the Excelsior Warpriest. Looks, he's even in Soulbou-
>Squatted
It's such a shame. They are my favourite army concept right now after I exhausted Ironjawz and Skaven. Like, there's so much ripe potential for these religious zealots preaching about the end of the world given their ancient analogues were 100% right and AoS itself survived the initial apocalyptic scenario.
>>
Do I blow my load and go crazy buying a battleforce, or eBay lot or lots of boxes, or should I practice patience and only get a box of a unit or hero?
>>
anyone think belakor is gonna get a rules facelift/points increase when his new model comes out? His rules are pretty good as is.
>>
>>78558233
Practice patience. Walk not the path of the CONSOOMER, lest you fall into a spiral of despair.
>>
>>78558233
one box at a time unless you really have a deadline for wanting to play or a competition to enter.
>>
>>78558233
Well, it's probably not a saving for one. I would buy whatever fits your pace and interest. If you're new then just a hero and a unit or an sc or something. You may not even like the process of building if you're new.
>>
>>78558259
Most likely his special rules will stay the same, but he'll get more wounds and probably an improved sword.
>>
>>78558216
I dont like how AoS totally reversed the classic dynamic that both 40k and WFB shared of established civilization trying to endure its internal and external threats as the apocalypse looms in the distance.

Instead AoS is about the expansion of civilization which is a very different dynamic
>>
>>78558233
Without additional details it's very hard to answer this as it entirely depends at what point you are at in your hobby career
Starting out from 0? Get a troop box (no heroes) and start with that, if you enjoy painting it get a Start Collecting and expand from there
Already playing since a while? See if you actually need stuff from the battleforce and get it, otherwise Ebay lots are good albeit risky
Don't assume blindly that Battleforces are good because while some are great and basically armies in a box (Ogor one for example) others like the Kharadron and Tzeench one are meh

Yeah, I thought that too but AoS is all over the place at the same time. I thought the initial optimism really belied the severity of the setting, because it's still basically a post-apocalyptic world almost entirely the dominion of chaos and at it's core antithetical to civilised life.
You just need to think about how SCE undermine that classic struggle of mortal man, corruptible men, against immortal, innumerable chaos by essentially duplicated the concepts of chaos' horror so the good guys aren't left out of feeling epic.
>>78558514
Nah, WHFB was firmly grounded in this threat from the North. The Siege of Praag, End Times, etc. I don't know, I'm barely informed about WHFB but this threat of overwhelming chaos was a given. Skaven crept through every city's sewers, beastmen prowled the woods, cults ushered fools into their secret meeting places, etc. AoS just isn't interested in that kind of thing and you need only read the Gotrek stuff to note the comparison in tone.
>>
>>78558610
Again, that was never the focus of the narrative. It always pitched a couple of factions in iconic rivalries. Wood elves vs beastmen, empire vs orcs or chaos, high elves vs dark elves and so on, just like AoS. It never had the focus on the Empire vs threats everywhere as 40k has with the Imperium.

>>
>>78559017
the ships arent too bad to transport if you can make the ship detachable from the flying pegs. theres a couple guys who make special magnetized flying pegs just for that purpose, makes em a lot easier to transport

that said, the KO SC boxes are a better deal, and you can get 2 KO SC boxes for the same cost as 1 battleforce. ultimately it comes down to weather you want a frigate vs 2 units of thunderers. the frigate isnt bad, but thunderers are one of the big staple units of the army
>>

All we know is Vampires, Skeletons, Zombies.
We dont even know if it will have Fell Bats or Bat Swarms. Cursed City has all units sharing the same points after all so It cant be an indication what you'll get. The Vampire Lord on a Zombie Dragon thats currently available is also an unknown as the artwork shows something different. We dont even know if the Mortarchs will stay the way they are since they all got their cat mounts killed off.

Its most likely a LoN rebranding and update but we have no confirmations on anything besides "its a vampire faction"

- Wight King on Skeletal Steed
- Zombies

>Speculated to be updated via Cover Art:
- Dire Wolves
- Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon

- Black Knights
- Corpse Cart (cursed city zombies mentioned corpse cart but this is just the old warscroll)
- Grave Guard
- Morghast
- Vargheists

- Arkhan
- Bloodseeker Palanquin
- Coven Throne
- Mannfred
- Nagash
- Necromancer
- Neferata
- Prince Vhordrai
- Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade
- Wight King with Black Axe
- Mortis Engine
- Terrorgheist

I just assumed all the ghost stuff is gone.
Looking at the list the main "old" kits not getting replaced are Black Knights, Grave Guard, Coven Throne box and Corpse Cart.
>>
>>78559454
So like I know one has a culture but they are motivated by nagashs singular goal to kill everything and own all the dead. Let's say he hypothetically succeeds. Now what? No more souls are born to add to the dead. Do their cultures still keep going or does nagash just have everyone stand still until the heat death of the mortal realms occurs
>>
>>78559434
SC! is coming next year probably. I'm talking about the cavalry box. It's a good one if you want OBR.
The Idoneth one is fine but eels > sharks still but they do have a SC!, then again Namarti are pretty bad also.
Make your decision based on what models you like and if it looks like your chosen faction will get support.

ossiarch are probably the most overall well rounded army to collect right now, they are also in a great spot with rules. the army is both strong and flexible.

they can play a slow marching heavy tanking phalanx supported by artillery, a grindy attrition machine with troops that explode when they die and stand right back up, an ultra fast charging all cavalry and flying monster army where the whole army runs and charges, and they've got some solid heroes.

i would say their only downsides are because of their eliteness it's hard to always fit everything you want in a list, and they are pretty reliant on their 3 named characters (arkhan, katakross, and nagash) to really shine.

nurgle is looking better with the updates but still a slog to play. slow without a bell, but can reach decent speeds with the right build, everything is tough and expensive, they lack ranged options entirely and their casting is garbage, their hitting power is also on the weak side, so they will pretty much just sit on objectives tanking all game.

idoneth deepkin are a blast to play, fast, hard hitting, good melee and decent ranged on the sharks and turtles, good options and everything is now usable except the reavers who still kind of suck. but if the fish aesthetic is not for you, skip em. if you like fish, go for it, rewarding army to play and fairly meta proof.

sylvaneth are in a REALLY bad spot. avoid except as an absolute labor of love for the models. tree dependency makes them expensive to collect too, half the cost of the army will be terrain.

KO are fast, redeploying, shooty skirmish alpha army that wants to skirt the fight and cripple the enemy early before they can hit back. lots of tricks and traps, like a mix of 40k's dark eldar/edlar, GSC, and tau, a wholly unique experience in AOS, they play like no other army. probably one of the more difficult armies to play well though. high skill ceiling

my fucking sides

They'll be Hashuti Furnacekings if we're following proper AoS naming conventions

Mobility. Dwarfs are and were the slow army meme. It's even worse now that they don't have artillery to actually decimate the enemy before they eventually get charged. With ranged support and fast and mobile infantry they become a lot more complete.

probably but it will be worse off for it. s/t just serves to slow the game down, and can also create some really hard skew where certain lists just cant tackle certain foes if they didnt bring a specific solution.

it also means when i'm making attack rolls, instead of looking at my sheet and seeing what i need to roll, i now need to look at my sheet, see my strength, then ask my opponent what their toughness is, then work out the math on the S/T chart before getting the number i need to roll. it adds like 3 steps of back and forth to the rolling process every time you make an attack, slowing the game down tremendously and also being a barrier to newer players, who have a whole chart of interactions to trip them up. veteran players might not mind because they have memorized every units strength and toughness, but for anyone else its entire steps of compare and contrast and find the total for every unit you want to make an attack with.

it was a bad system, and fixed attack and wound rolls, while slightly less thematic/realistic, streamlined gameplay quite a bit and the game was better for having them

Iron Golems.

just run living cities? you can outflank with irondrakes, and for a CP they can move after they shoot. thats about as mobile as rangers ever were as far as i recall

Any questions?

I appreciate the write up a lot. I love the fish vibe of Indoneth which is what's making this decision so hard. I think I will just go with both and slowly build them up. I'm not in any rush to get an army going so I'll grab a Mortek Guard box and maybe the Broken Realms Idoneth box afterwards.
>>
>>78560104
maybe the KO one. his ability to reel in targets from the deck of a ship could be interesting. he's otherwise pretty terrible, but pulling enemies out of position can be a pretty big deal
>>
>>78560091
We are talking about dwarfs being out of CoS and in their own book. Also, a gamey ability that doesn't fit the point of irondrakes from a city with a theme opposite of what dwarfs do isn't exactly a satisfactory situation.

Is it thought?
Fyreslayers are obsessed with gold and dwarves in general are associated with jews, so it follows pretty naturally that GW will reintroduce chorfs by way of the Fyreslayers.

Make a new thread then, dummy.
>>
>>78560104
Dwarf is memey since you can tie up a big monster for one turn which can swing the game. Like archaon
>>
>>78560073
I'm sorry anon but I can't really take seriously anyone that thinks this is a barrier of entry to new players. If you can't work this out I'm not sure you can handle AoS as it is right now, with a million special rules and modifiers to keep in mind.

Following the chaos namescheme we have:
Blades of Khorne
Disciples of Tzeentch
Hedonites of Slaanesh
Maggotkin of Nurgle
so if they come back it is safe to assume that the army name would be ___ of Hashut
>>
>>78560206
Diggers of Hashut
>>
>>78560197
if you dont see the difference between a single step of just looking at a number and seeing what you need to roll VS having to look and your number, then ask the opponent their number, then do some quick division every time you want to roll an attack, then you arent making an honest argument

and you think S/T is going to make all those modifier suddenly go away? or like 40k isnt also full of a million modifiers? all of its weapon profiles have strength modifers build in, so you dont just look at the units strength for melee, you now also need to look at the units strength + the weapons strength.

this is the problem with the S/T argument, it's always made by bad faith actors
>>

It's all ogre now.

What if they will be called The Growing Legion of Hashut

Overcompensation for the busted first attempt. Plus all the WAACfags will have shilled out for them by that point. Shame about people who just genuinely like Slaanesh getting caught in the crossfire.

Kragnos' lil homies
>>
>>78560291
i think it had a bunch more rules that got cut at the last minute. compare dread pageant members with their counterpart units and spot all the missing rules or tuned down attack profiles

The presence of a dynamic roll would reduce the amount of special rules yes. If the objective is making the combat sequence as streamlined and as quick as possible, then fixed rolls aren't the solution. Warcry's version of S/T works much better, because there's only one roll to attack and no save roll. Instead, what were saves (mainly armours and shields and stuff) instead increase Toughness, while what was rend now increases Strength. That way you have a simpler system with more granularity, that isn't locked to just 6 fixed values and that has less rolls that don't need to switch between players and the same amount of looking at the opponent's stats as current AoS.
>>
>>78560361
Well everyone else thinks a centaur with a spikey shield and mace is a fucking elf so it's just as likely.

Kragnos' people are the Silent People, who are gone.

Yeah, S/T in Warcry is a much more elegant, fun and just outright better way to do things than AoS ToHit/ToWound/ToSave/FNP rolls
