How do you feel about playing the opposite sex and have you ever tried?
All of the time in PBP
>>78540393I use to randomize my characters so a couple of times...unless it's some fantastical race...I find it quite dumb that an elf or an orc would have sexual dimorphism when they are supposed to be mystical beings instead of just animals
>>78540393I run games so it would be pretty silly to have every character the same gender.
>>78540393I don't really feel any way about it, but generally prefer not to do it.
>>78540393I used to do it myself now and then until seeing other men pretending to be women and little girls started to bother me. Now I only make men for my player characters, because I know that I shouldn't do something around other people that I don't want other people doing around me.
>>78540393I played two female characters because they were a better fit to the concept I had in mind as female. One of the two is my absolute favorite character. But I play text only because I genuinely prefer to let my imagination work.As a side note, a guy is playing a female in a voice game I cannot connect the voice from the female character so I have to actively remember he's the anime girl in the party.
>>78540393I don’t play evil characters, it makes me feel bad.
>>78540393Only in video games with a third person camera. If I'ma be staring at an ass all game, it's gonna be a female ass.
>>78541659This may well be the straightest thing ever written on /tg/
>>78540393Only if she's marriedI don't need some slut ruining the group by playing on my boys' desire for female attention
>>78540393>>78541745Oh, I can't read I guessI thought you said playing WITH the opposite gender, not as.yeah I dunno it's cool I guess
>>78540393In games like MMOs, party games, etc. I play girls. If it's something like Dark Souls, certain types of RPGs I prefer playing boys. Those are just a few examples, but it depends greatly. In terms of tabletop, I only ever played guys aside from one time that ended up being a dead on arrival campaign anyway. Though in other types of RP, I play either or with a tendency towards female characters. Likewise, as a DM, I end up making mostly female characters. Though with my latest campaign, I've managed to create a more evenly gendered game(not that I was trying to). It may have to do with the difference in setting, though. There were reasons for the previous campaign to have a larger number of female NPCs.tl;dr I play both but can understand that some guys aren't secure enough to play a girl
nobody asked you about vidya you fucking cucumbers
I flip a coin if I don't have a gender in mind for my character or if the system calls for rolling chars. So I'm fine with it.
>>78540393I generally assume that any male who plays a 'conventionally attractive' female is doing it so they can jerk-off under the table. That doesn't mean it can't be done well. But generally dudes are better off playing female characters that are not just sexy babe versions of the guy they would play otherwise. The best female characters are ones who have to be women to make sense. Examples (from my own experience)Bad:Scrawny dweeb ass motherfucker playing a half-human half-succubus guitar bard whose only character trait was that she was a succubus. really cringy, if the guy who played her browses here (wouldn't be suprised) then fuck you, you cringe ass yee-yee as cringeboyGood:Quiet but severe nun, questioned her faith in the face of eldritch abominations. Was forced to abandon god to save herself and her friends, then had to deal with that loss of faithAny kind of old lady character, straight up, if you haven't played a granny yet go fucking do it. Easily the most fun architype to roleplay
>>78540393I don't and I don't plan on doing it anytime soon. It just feels weird and preverted to play a girl and I don't really know why
>>78540393Like literally everything else, it all depends on the person. If you're a greasy loser with a mental illness, sexual frustration, or personal issues, you're almost certainly doing it wrong. If you're a regular human being, you're probably doing it right.
>>78541615So you only play caucasian males? Based.
>>78541927>Any kind of old lady character, straight up, if you haven't played a granny yet go fucking do it. Easily the most fun architype to roleplayproblem with your theorem anonold ladies get me rock fucking hard
>>78542382Skwisgaar , pls
>>78540393I don't really care much for whether my characters are male or female, as long as they're fun to play.
>>78540393>How do you feel about playing the opposite sex?Doesn't bother me. I have yet to encounter someone who makes playing the opposite sex weird. My only issue is that none of my previous GMs seemed to factor the sex of the PCs into roleplay much, but I guess they didn't want to potentially make things weird for the players.>Have you ever tried? Most of my RPG characters are female.
>>78540393>How do you feel about playing the opposite sex and have you ever tried? All game, no storyshitting.
>>78541927>you cringe ass yee-yee as cringeboy
>>78542960Found the succubus player
>>78540393I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.
>>78540393Sure, I have fun playing female characters. I just end up playing them all as the bitchy tsundere type.I-I don't mean to. It just happens! Baka!
>>78540393I don't judge because sometimes a character concept just works better for a particular gender. If a man wants to play as a cackling witch, that's fine as long as he doesn't get weird about playing as a female.
>>78540393I do it off and on, it's a fun challenge and suits some concepts better.
>>78540393I don't enjoy the idea of playing a character of the opposite gender.I would never do it, personally, but I also wouldn't fault someone who would. The idea of playing a male character just weirds me out.
>>78543526Would be real shame if somebody else rolled likeable girl and stole both boy and spotlight from you.
>>78540393I've done it plenty. It feels like playing a character. What kind of character? Depends on what the character is like. Slightly manic gnome, carefree assimarr, level headed dwarf; all that happen to be female.
>>78540393I do it almost exclusively in video games with a character creator but I never for traditional games. Maybe it's because I have a bad imagination but I feel like there would be too great a disconnect there for a medium that uses voice.
>>78540393I don't play as females anymore because I end up falling in love with my own characters and then being too emotionally attached to let anything happen to them.
>>78540393I prefer being sexless abominations, but vaginas are okay I guess.
>>78544157blatant self inserts are bad roleplay
>>78540393Roleplaying as the opposite sex is like going to Mcdonalds, we all do it at least once in our life and only the fat people keep doing it.
>>78543951>implying I'm not playing a lesbian
>>78540393This is either bait, or you really are a loser.
Playing a female mech pilot, it hasn't changed anything. I just joke that whenever I do something stupid it's because I'm in-character.
>>78544743that's one well preserved grandma you got there
>>78540393inb4 no one believes me but i live in the UK and belle is a regular at my local hobby/game shop. she plays DnD and AoS. but not with me.
Anyone who finds it weird has obviously never GMed.
>>78540393In a campaign that got put on indefinite hold because of IRL stuff going on for the GM, I played a female character, but only because that's just how I envisioned the character. Simple as. It was a fine experience.
>>78545477>she plays DnD and AoSDo you happen to know how "normal" her DnD sessions are, or what army she plays?
>>78540393I only run games so yup, all the time
>>78540393>How do you feel about playing the opposite sex?I feel more comfortable with it honestly. Male characters are the "default" and easier for me to flesh out details for. I lean towards them if I don't have a specific concept in mind. As well as worrying about women characters being perceived as self inserts or ending up the "token girl" character. I've been trying to branch out lately with more recent characters.>Have you ever tried?Pretty much since I started playing.
>>78540393It gives me variations in my characters, nothing more
I only play hot lesbians in games. The female DM/GM of our group always gives my characters the best hookups / relationships.
>>78541545>Not using a voice changer
>>78540393I do, and I find I enjoy it more than playing dudes. It's weird, because I know I am a dude and have not intentions of going tranny. I just try to keep the "tee hee sexy bits" part to a minimum to avoid poc related being the face of every person at the table, be it online or in person
>>78540393I haven't, it doesn't sound interesting to me. Playing as old and/or ugly men is a lot more entertaining.
>>78541927>Any kind of old lady character, straight up, if you haven't played a granny yet go fucking do it. Easily the most fun architype to roleplayMy man.Playing an old granny was probably the most unexpectedly fun and rewarding thing I've done in all of tabletop.
>>78547323>I find I enjoy it more than playing dudes. It's weird, because I know I am a dude and have not intentions of going tranny.being a woman is playing life on Easy Mode, of course you're going to enjoy it more than being a man
>>78540393Fine with it with the added proviso "it depends entirely on the person". Being female doesn't preclude one from being placed in the category of "That Guy" and I've had the misfortune of running into a couple of female "That Guys".
>>78547955I just wanted to play out my Yaoi fantasy! OMG, you're so shit DM.
>>78540393Don't really feel anything. Only time I've done it was in MMOs and I got a bunch of free shit. Doing it in tabletop I got none of those perks so there is no reason to.
Usually fine if you're a normal person. Like many other things, it can get incredibly autistic and cringe, but it's not a problem per se.
>>78540393>How do you feel about playing the opposite sex and have you ever tried? Most my characters now a days are the opposite sex, from digital games like WoW to tabletop RPG. Basically, I spend my entire life being a man, so I rather try something new for a change. I'm also writing a fantasy novel and most of the main cast is female, including the MCCurrently, I'm playing as a necromancer healer from a noble birth (pic related). Got invited on a date last session so let's see how that will turn out>>78544667kek
>>78540393I only play Futanari
>>78540393Maybe in a one shot or a short campaign, but not for an extended period of time.
>>78540393I play ttrpgs to pretend to be something i'm not. I never played a female character but i see no problem with it.
>>78540393I'm an always DM. I'm used to it and I don't mind it. I just have a hard time doing female voices and that makes me want to include them less. That's all.
>>78540393I used to do it because I like to write and didn't see any issues with it. But it today's climate of fetishistic coomer tranny freaks, I avoid it
>>78540393I think it is fine, so long as the character is a CHARACTER, and isn't just an excuse for your fetishes. Then it is probably going to go bad.I've played a few female characters in my career, such as a saintly monk (not "nun", her order made no such distinctions) in Exalted, and an adventurous heiress in a Final Fantasy-inspired game. Also, as a GM, my players tell me my female NPCs are very well-realized.
>>78540393how's her porn
>>78540393I tried it once. HUGE mistake. My friends still think I'm gay.Not even joking BTW, that is what happens in real life when you play a tabletop RPG character that's the opposite sex from you.
>>78540393Sometimes. Online it gets a little weird when no one can tell I'm not actually a girl and I start getting really bizarre messages
>>78559735You have to be older than 18 to post here.
>>78559882He could be mid-western. Or iranian.
>>78541659>>78541719If you’re staring at your character’s ass, you fucking suck at games
>>78540393It's cool. I feel more comfortable to do my more out there characters as the opposite sex because of that extra degree of separation. My more down to earth characters tend to be my sex. I alternate every character do.
>>78544667>mfw the skinniest person in our group is the one to most frequently play as females
In high school I friendzoned my friend's cousin because she was his cousin and then I realized that was dumb and then the group ended before I could fix the mistake. I was too autistic to accept that she actually might like me and she wasn't bad looking either. She even made the first move, but I didn't know what I was doing and spaghetti'd with a no. She was actually decent at Pathfinder too for the few sessions we did.Played D&D intro box with 2 friends and one of their gf who was a solid 8 that did Harry Potter rps online. Was pretty good, but I was a trash DM and the 2 dudes and I were too ADD to make the game work.Played D&D with several girls and a couple of guy friends as a haha let's do a nerd thing in college. We ended up making characters and doing like half an encounter and everyone got drunk and distracted. Ended up being a good group for Catan later on though.Deck builders and other light board games have been fun for my friends' gfs, but they can't into anything heavier. I don't do TTRPGs anymore and prefer wargames and heavier card/boardgames which I rarely see females into. I want an Infinity/Battletech/MageKnight gf, but I'll be granted a League one instead most likely.
>>78540393Most of my characters are constructs or warforged-like, so usually not gendered to begin with
I find it hard to do without it devolving into a caricature, so I avoid it.
>>78560849I think you misread the thread there, chief. But thanks for the stories.
>>78540393Only twice, both in MMOs. The first one was because the classes were gender locked and being a loli-sorceress was an acceptable sacrifice to be a damage-god. The other (SWTOR) because I felt like if my alts weren't of every race, I wasn't getting my full money's worth. The latter case I got free stuff playing a Cathar jedi, someone only logged on when I was on, gave me free stuff, and would always ask a/s/l. Even when I said I was a guy, they'd still ask a/s/l later like they thought I was joking. Strangest damn thing I ever encountered.
>>78540393I never have since my previous group ruled that you have to play as the same sex you are. Everyone but me and the DM on my current group is female, so I think if I did play as a female character it would not be well received.
>>78541659we get it man you watch game grumps
>>78540393I never did it in TTRPGs. I once did it in an MMO. It was City of Heroes, and I jokingly decided to make a magical girl. Then I realized that the character creation options didn't have enough cute frilly dresses, so I made her a creepy little ghost girl instead. She looked especially funny running around, plucking lamp-posts and tossing them at people.
>>78561629Do it you pussy. Chicks love genderplay, it's why they surround themselves with trannies and fags.
>>78561781hehe grandpa gums
>>78561996Everytime I see those eastern mmorpgs I desire to make a cute girl with a frilly dress and rp being cute...then I remember mmos are just endless fetch quests and the joke isn't going to be worth playing this trash
tried and failed. now i only play comitatenses autistici, preferably obese or otherwise gronked out
>>78562131>the jokewhat is the joke exactly
>>78540393Eh, depends on how I'm feeling and what sort of character I'm making. I had a female cleric I quite enjoyed playing, as well as a ranger I used for a one-shot; I can't say I really played them much differently than I would have played a male character, though. Also depends quite a bit on what the rest of the group is doing; if no one else is playing a character that's a different gender than they are, I probably won't either.
>>78540393ERP with a man is gay, so of course I'm open to game with female hominids.
>>78562452If you ERP you're already gay regardless of your sexual orientation.
>>78540393Never met someone who wanted to do this that wasn't either gay or an incel.
>>78563404The only people I've seen that were vocally against doing it were incels or in miserable relationships
