In my setting they're somewhat based on warhammer orks in temperament, but rather than being religiously driven they have a genetic predisposition to hedonism. As in, orks with resources, abdundant food, people to fight, etc. end up wild, bloodthirsty barcrawlers like warhammer orks, but some choose to live an ascetic lifestyle and are restrained, civilized, and wise. These second ones usually live in wastes/deserts where they're isolated from other races and spend so much time subsisting they stay 'normal'

I like to portray them as a mutated sub-race of elves made to fight ancient wars by ancient elves because those ancient elves were pussies. A good portion still form a warrior caste in elven cities but there are "wild orc" clans that fit the barbarian horde archetype. How they are treated and how their culture develops varies from place to place, ranging from basically slave-soldiers to begrudging tolerance to outright respect and veneration by certain elvish cities. I did develop the concept a lot better than that but I lost my notes.

Here’s how I did Orcs in my setting.You either have “naturals” AKA WoW-styled tribal Orcs that came to exist through evolution and have standard genders and all that lovely stuff or you have “Arties” mass-produced vat-bred monsters (warhammer styled Orcs) intended to be perfect soldiers by a coven of demented sorcerers.Arties turned out to be fiendishly clever, moreso than their tribal kin and overthrew their sorcerer overlords, hijacked the reproduction vats and began expanding, frequently absorbing their tribal kin into their warbands. The two are inter-breedable but Artie offspring will always be male, regardless who or what the mother was. Natural Orcs can be diplomatic, Arties are never diplomatic, their biological bloodlust amplified by their mutations.
