First Order armor for future Imperial armor in EU. Using 50-100 years armor makes literally 0 sense, its like if the NR decided to take out old clone armor.
>>776814790/10 no neck goiter and the beard is all wrong. Terrible cosplay.
>>77680448Either one would be okay with me, but the one from Episode 3 requires less squishing of the scale so I think it's more likely.Good point about Qui-Gon, but the skiff could also have a bunch of Naboo crew options. Padme used it in The Clone Wars so Typho and Jar-Jar would thematically fit, and it was apparently queen's ship which she borrowed, so queens or handmaidens wouldn't be out of the question. Plus of course, based on Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan as a pilot and Padme Amidala (Dying of Sadness) as a crew.
>>77681698FO armor looks like shit stop trying to make this a thing disney shill
>>77681479Why did you post a Slavoj Zizek cosplay?
>>77681698Agreed about using old armor and I could see FO armor used by some retarded moff's forces during the warlord era but future Imperials deserve better
>>77681785>>77681720There's nothing wrong with the TLJ version that changes the faceplate
>>77681825Form an independent opinion for once in your life instead of reveling in a circlejerk. It was specifically the TFA armor that looked retarded.
>>77681720You would prefer pic related used for centuries on end?>>77681785I'd rather FO than some shitty OC creation that doesn't even look Star Wars.
>>77681872get a taste mate
>>77681890Why abandon literal perfection. Embrace tradition.
>>77681890I would prefer good-looking new armor that isn't FO garbage, but if I had to choose between the FO set and classic OT stormies, I'd pick OT stormies every time.
>>77681811It's still armor that exists just for the sake of OT nostalgia. The FO's obsession with being the new Empire taints everything they did. Had they done their own thing instead and tried to be distinctive, the ST would have been maybe 10% less shit.
>>77682009>Why abandon literal perfectionThey did that in Episode 2
>>77682021>It's still armor that exists just for the sake of OT nostalgia.Compare/Contrast:>>77682009>Why abandon literal perfection. Embrace tradition.
>>77682009>Embrace tradition.Fucking this. Nothing created since 1985 has been good. Let it all burn.
Anyone else love these crazy motherfuckers?
>>77682036Then actually copy the Empire fully, don't allude to it. Had the FO used purely Imperial era designs, even if the worky bits underneath were more modern, it would have worked better than what they had. What works better for for villains, "Look, we're alluding to Nazi imagery," or "We are literal fucking Nazis, we are the things of your nightmares, and we're putting the boot back on your neck."
>>77681909Top: Goofy smile. Big round eyes. All the curves are soft and gentle, the lines thick and wide. All the sections flow together smoothly, without interruption. Bottom: Classic mouth shape contrasted by thinner contrasts along the cheeks. Eyes are a steeper angle. Edges are harsher and the angles are more varied. Sections are interrupted and delineated for a rougher appearance. One is an iStormTrooper with a silly grin, the other is an OT derivative with a twist.
>>77682142they wanted to villify the former as part of their political message when making the films, so of course that's what they go with.
>>77682142>What works better for for villains, "Look, we're alluding to Nazi imagery," or "We are literal fucking Nazis, we are the things of your nightmares, and we're putting the boot back on your neck."They couldn't do that though, since that would have made the FO the good guys.
>>77682204Sorry, it still looks like a goofy smile in both.
>>77682240It's literally an evocation of a skull. Are you sure the problem isn't something on your end?
>>77682283Still has the upward curve that makes it a smile, jackass. Oh, too bad, so sad, cope harder.
>>77682204It's still shit, just less shit that one of the worst helmets in long history of shitty Star Wars helmets. It's like praising TFA armor because it looks favorable when compared to TOR
>>77682019The problem is, the classic stormtrooper is absolute perfection. Everyilthing else is just going to be seen as inferior for an imperial successor
>>77682136We could have got resurgent Rakata instead of the vong
>>77682385Luke trying to blow up a Star Forge.
>>77682302>>77682361Ah, the >copeStarts coming out. Well, that didn't take long, I guess.
>>77682401It's literally what you're doing. For some reason you have this need for this one thing to not be utter shit, you want it to have at least some redeeming feature, and everyone but you can see the cesspool of crap you've waded into to do it. We're telling you to get out, all you want is to dive deeper.
>>77682362Frankly TOR was at least more creative with its OT/PT hybrid designs, even if they were still shamelessly derivative.
>>77682399>He does>But there's several more making new ones
>>77682136I get the overwhelming urge to rip off their eyes and make a scambled egg out of their head
>>77682445Also the Rakata go to Tatooine for round 2.
>>77682376The actual problem is it was designed for looks rather than storytelling. What's the theme behind the First Order? Well, let's pretend it's that they're super-zealots, the most diehard true believers in the Emperor, the extremists of the Imperial days who don't have any pretense of morals or self-preservation or practicality left. So, uh. Why do their troopers look the way they do? Certainly nothing to do with all that stuff.
>>77682136The language, yes them as a concept? fuck no
>>77682283Looks more like donald duck to me friend
>>77682484Yeah it was there to look like "empire. But modern"And the "modern" look is just sterile, not in the garden industrial way the classic empire was but in this weird corporate way that tries to look all appealing, which. Ironically the galaxies edge attraction leans into better by having an FO outpost showing them trying to propagandize with merch and shit, but the movies dont make them come off as the kind of guys after the hearts and minds victory.
>>77682484No idea, why do their ships look the way they do if they're been stuck in bumfuck nowhere?
>>77682136I really dislike the trope of some ancient civilization inventing super powerful shit and going extinct leaving behind technology that outmatches everything from the "current" times, it's fucking everywhere and it's so boring and uninspired. Why can't the current civilization be the one to invent FTL, explore the Galaxy and build megastructures, especially when it knew interstellar travel for 25 000 years
>>77682559Allegedly it was secret resources being funneled to them by corporate interests loyal to the empire.I still think the Starkiller base should have been a reverse engineered star forge instead of another biggerer death star
>>77682559Still going to counter that with the based Pellaeon-class. The PSD might be too far future, but the Resurgent looks too busy, like some fanon design that went too hard on the greebling.
>>77682582Because we recognize that every achievement has been built on the backs of someone else
>>77682559Actually, the Resurgent does match the theme. It's an ISD that's had the whole front's worth of armor removed. You're completely mistaking storytelling in design for plot. The Empire didn't field Stormtroopers in white armor because the bullshit mines of stupidville produced a white ore that was easily molded or whatever plot reason. They fielded white because it was cold and sterile, anonymous and stark, perfectly fitting their role in the story.
>>77682610>Allegedly it was secret resources being funneled to them by corporate interests loyal to the empire. That, and they had a third of the galaxy to fuck around in where the Empire and Republic never exploited resources, so there was plenty to take and no one to see them take it, save maybe the Chiss.
>>77682582>outmatchesThe Rakata's most iconic piece of tech was the Star Forge and the ships and droids it churned out in KOTOR would be hilariously outdated garbage compared to the "present day" OT stuff.
>>77682678New timeline or not, I think the Chiss vs the Nacent First Order could make for an interesting conflict, because even if Snoke has been prevented, a whole bunch of contingency shit is happening there.
>>77682693>Star Forge is back>oh shit>but it still only keeps shitting out those ancient Sith/Republic InterdictorsWould be like fighting CIS 2.0 I guess.
>>77682582Have you ever heard the rumors and theories for all the insane shit Tesla invented? Death rays, wireless power, free, infinite clean energy from the rotation of the planet. And that's just one guy on one planet with a few hundred years of actual technological development. Now imagine how many Teslas there might be/have been on a galactic scale, over tens of thousands of years. Don't think of it as something ancient peoples in Star Wars could mass produce, think of it as the work of a relatively small number of visionary geniuses that even their own people didn't understand.
>>77682740>>77682693Couldn't you just upload new designs?
>>77682025You're right, this was literal perfection>>77682283the very first stormtrooper helmet back in 1977 was an evocation of a skull, so you can't pull that rabbit out of your ass to its defense
>>77682854>>77682740Firstly, old technology cryptic language fantasy whatever. Secondly, you're well aware that Old < New, but Very Old > New.
>>77682889Yuck here comes the clonesfag zoomer brigade
>>77682582The problem is when it is exaggerated and it turns out that the ancient civilization was superior in everything to all modern civilizations. It is much more credible and more original when the ancient civilization turns out to be more advanced than the current ones in only one or two fields (the important ones for the plot) and it turns out to be far behind in other aspects.A good example of this is the ancient extinct civilization of Pillars of Eternity which is much more advanced in one respect than current civilizations, but current civilizations are much more advanced in everything else.
>>77682740Given how big the time gap is, it would be more like sending biremes to fight an Iowa-class BB.
>>77682996dont mistake me for a genndywars redditor who thinks that episode 3 was so epic kino best star wars of all time edgelord tween screeching about how TCW 2 (Rebels) sucks because disney did it to cater to OT purists, I originally didn't even like the Phase 1 clones for not looking enough like stormtroopersI have just come to realize in my 30yo boomer old age wisdom and sagaciousness that the Phase I Clonetrooper design is the pinnacle of heroic art-deco retro-futurist science fiction military design
>>77682655yea no, it would be like discovering the ancient civilizations of the world could travel the stars somehow
Can any of you sweet heroes recommend some star wars books of high quality to me please? Thank you my dearies!
>>77683074Define "high quality". Define "Star Wars". What do you actually want from it? Because not every piece of extraneous Star Wars content is suitable for the interests of every fan.
>>77683074 Thrawn TrilogyI Jedi
>>77683074The high republic books are pretty great enjoy anon
>>77683036>it turns out to be far behind in other aspectsThe ancient Star Wars empires actually were far behind the Empire and EU NR. Look at how little of the galaxy the Rakata, Gree, and Kwa controlled compared to the civilizations that came after. Their hyperspace tech seems to be nowhere near as advanced as OT-era stuff. Militarily, none of them had anything on the level of Death Stars, Super Star Destroyers, Missile Boats, or X-wings. Even on the infantry level, ancient beam tubes are garbage compared to modern blasters.
>>77683103Good or at least decent writing.Preferably not related to the disney sequel trilogy.Other than that I'm open to anything from the old republic to stuff after the battle of endor.
>>77683074Thrawn TrilogyX-Wing seriesThe Stele Chronicles (packaged with TIE Fighter)The Farlander Papers (packaged with the X-Wing flight sim)Jedi PrinceScoundrelsHand of Thrawn
>>77682693The ships Star Forge crunched out were top of the line when Malak was using it. Interdictor-class cruiser was a Republic design from the Mandalorian Wars.>>77682772Sure and as anyone with a brain I don't believe a single one of those. But that's beside the point, Rakatans had a Galaxy-wide civilization and left their super advanced shit everywhere. I don't like that trope.
>>77683036to be honest I just don't like ancient interstellar civilizations no matter the tech level, Republic is 25 000 years old, why does there have to be something before them
>>77683161Eh not really. The fact they could harvest energy from stars and create factories that had unlimited supplies puts them beyond anything we see in the OT or PT
>>77683171Light of the jedi is decent if you want something recent. Lost Stars otherwise
>>77683171"Anything" is a really broad category. What are you most interested in?Prequel era? OT era? Post-OT? Pre-PT?Imperial perspective? Rebel perspective? Jedi perspective? Sith perspective? Criminal perspective?Standard action? Military focus? Pilots and ships? Ground battles? Comedy? Tragedy?Etc, etc, etc.I can only provide you the books I like best, I have no idea what you're looking for.For example, I like the original Thrawn trilogy, which is a rather stereotypical adventure story similar to the original trilogy, set essentially as a sequel trilogy to the OT.The new Thrawn trilogy is also nice but entirely different, as its more of a set of political thrillers with the "bad guys" as the protagonists. The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy is all about Boba Fett surviving the sarlacc and other scum and villainy. The Han Solo Adventures trilogy are basically Smokey and the Bandit crossed with Indiana Jones in space and completely detached from anything else in the Star Wars galaxy.Shadows of the Empire explores the time in between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as the heroes try to track down Han Solo and the new Death Star plans. The Courtship of Princess Leia is a more spiritual action-adventure-cum-gothic-horror with a relatively minor amount of romance but lots of politicking.
>>77683393Also Darth Plagueis. Anything by James Luceno really.
>>77683243Factories bottlenecked by slow production rates, mind you. The Star Forge couldn't even produce enough ships to destroy a fleet composed of mere Hammerheads and Forays. OT-era Kuat Drive Yards probably churns out more tonnage per day pumping out death triangles.
>>77683171>Good or at least decent writing.Oh. Then nothing. Sorry
>>77683442>>77683393Interesting fact: I started watching the dvds of the 1986 toy commercial anime "Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers", and noticed that the exact same plot of The Force Awakens, complete with Starkiller Base using a star to power a planet-sized planet-destroying superlaser that travels through hyperspace occurred in one of these 22 minute episodes (E15: Queen's Lair, specifically) and I also noticed that consistent writers for the show included Brian Daley (of the Han Solo Adventures) and James Luceno himself.
>>77683532This is almost certainly not a coincidence.
>>77683074Rise of Darth Vader and Lords of the Sith are both excellent.
>>77683393The only star wars books I've read have been the original thrawn trilogy and I know basically nothing about any other star wars books. I'm open to suggestions because I don't really have a preference one way or the other about when the books take place and I don't know much about what kind of genres of star wars books there even are.
>>77683393Also the Darth Bane trilogy.
>>77683582Not to mention the Episode III novelization.
>ywn fuck Zannah.
>>77681562I bought into Empire for Legion but damn I kinda wanna do Rebels too. They seem to have a lot of a good options, especially with Lando coming in. Still haven't actually played a game since I bought in right before WuFlu

>>77682484I liked TFA’s premise of the First Order being rebels against a now galactic power that is the New Republic and Jedi. Shit the idea of a Cold War turning hot between the Empire and New Republic is such a cool idea. Shame post TFA it went back to rebels/Empire
>>77683058Or like discovering ancient civilisations made steam engines. That would be insane right.
>>77684542>I liked TFA’s premise of the First Order being rebels against a now galactic power that is the New Republic and JediBut this never happened? It's an in-universe rumor that even the film disproves. You see Poe's shock and disbelief in the First Order base? He thought they were an unorganized band of Rebels but he as we discover its far from the truth.

>>77681479>best OP image in monthsMORE
>>77684638The "steam engine" invented by Hero of Alexandra 2000 years ago was little more than a piping teapot used for religious service. I do not ever recall the Roman Empire having using this device produce railway locomotives which is a substantially different application of the theory.
>>77681564A laff m8
A lightsaber is quite possibly the perfect sci-fi weapon. A marriage of archaic swagger and high technology, it cuts through almost anything but still has enough ways to stop it that it prevents it from being uninterestingly unstoppable. The retractable blade allows scenes to be choreographed without it getting in the way, moving through cramped spaces, acrobatics, etc, it's concealable, and the way it snaps on and has a distinctive sound not only serves as a great way for a character to show their decision to kill without words, it doesn't even need to be on screen to do it. The fact it sheds light calls attention to the character, the color can be used to tell you about them without them needing to speak, it's perfectly executed.
Does anyone else feel like X-wing 2e is now just as card and mechanics bloated as 1e was when it ended?

>>77687319>were misogynist racists and child slavers made up of POC, Gingers and women. How are we supposed to feel good about FO Troopers getting blown away when we know they're brainwashed kids? How is that better than Stormtroopers in the OT being primarily card-carrying fascists who were too mean and belligerent for the Army?
>>77683161>The ancient Star Wars empires actually were far behind the Empire and EU NRAre you high? 99% of the Rakatan Empire is located on the opposite side of the core from Rakata Prime. >>77687393So still far behind the Empire and NR in terms of map control and tech.
>>77687393>Especially if you're going to make the argument their hyperspace tech had to be worse.Considering the Ratakan were mainlining Dark Side Juice between genocides and planetary enslavement, I wouldn't be surprised if they were constantly tunneling through an Event Horizon-type Hell Dimension most of the time.

>>77687003Shouldn't that be the AMAZINGLY named Gorrilla Monsoon?
Your party's antagonist is an Imperial overseeing an R&D program (vehicles, weapons, armor, new troopers, whatever seems best) with decent pull, resources, and more importantly, near-fourth-wall breaking strategic acumen. Like a Star Wars version of the Evil Overlord rules, What kind of things would they do? What's the most genuinely, out-of-character threatening Imperial possible?
>>77679950FO armor is objectively worse than Imperial armor, as it doesn't even have the ability to filter air circulate oxygen from an internal source, seeing as they were going to fucking gas the FO troopers they assumed were boarding the Falcon in TFA. It's kind of interesting how tech seems to be on a constant downward slide if anything in Star Wars, but I guess that isn't too different from the fall of Rome that George wanted the PT to represent. If for some insane reason you wanted to run a post-ST game you could get a lot of mileage out of simply rediscovering Clone Wars era tech.
>>77687385>How are we supposed to feel good about FO Troopers getting blown away when we know they're brainwashed kids?Blowing away anyone who fights for fascism should make anyone feel good. It doesn't matter why they're fighting for it. The only thing that matters is that they are, and everyone who does ought to not just fight for it, but die for it.
>>77687814Also applies to >>77681698
Thinking about the politics of the series, it paints a portrait of the feckless grapplings of liberal, conservative, and generally reactionary factions in a democracy more-or-less controlled by big money; the decline and conflict is an excuse for a small but powerful group to lead a seemingly-legitimate transition to a fascist regime.Much of the liberal political apparatus remains docile; for them, nothing has meaningfully changed. The war is over, their paycheques keep cashing, and many of them now get preferential treatment at the expense of traitors and a growing category of "undesirables." While the Empire is bad, and opposing it thus is good, the Rebellion itself is... sort of a nothing burger. It isn't revolutionary in any sense. It is headed largely by a group of disaffected liberal politicians, and regional planets that feel the boot particularly firmly. After they defeat the Empire, things simply revert to the status quo ante; a liberal democracy that is dominated by private economic interests. The cycle of Republic, Civil War, and Empire will never end unless something fundamentally changes.
>>77687679For a lot of years, there was 2 things that my players genuinely dreaded and actively feared->Zero G Troopers + Gamma Assault Shuttles>Storm Commandos + TIE HuntersThat meant the time for fucking around had stopped and sticking around meant you're definitely going to find out just how deep this shit puddle goes

>>77687819In the case of people who have been hard-indoctrinated to do nothing but serve and fight since childhood, I don't think joy should be taken in that. Many will have to be killed, but it shouldn't be a pleasurable act. That's just with their abduction program; given the material conditions of the galaxy, enlistment in the military is likely the only chance to escape poverty. You do not have to forgive people for enlisting, but you must understand what leads them to doing so and work with them if they want to make amends.Again, can't stress enough that fascists must die. >>77687781I always liked the personal touch that sometimes the big Imperial guy will go into the intelligence archives to find out everything from their school records to employment history and family ties, friends, associates, what they like and why they behave the way they do. There's quite a few Imperial Intel agencies which can do that along with 'profiling' them like the criminal scum they undoubtedly are. This is great for shit-talking them over comms or a holo message at choice, inappropriate moments when they're literally at the "we really don't need this right now" timesLater on when they're a bit more comfortable or established, you can have those calls from places they've been recently, or even just random people they've interacted with recently as a guest appearance off to the side being compromised in some undeserving or brutal way.
>>77687984This is a question that Star Wars simply glazes over. The morality of the faceless mooks does not matter; they're functionally pawns in the grand scheme of things. Lesser beings compared compared to the movers and pushers like Vader.Remember, even in the OT, our kind-hearted farmboy Luke was eager to join the same militaristic oppressors that he'd soon be fighting, just as a way off his dusty planet. If he, of all people, doesn't question the fact that he's blasting his would-be comrades out of the sky, then no one should. The morality of the universe simply doesn't operate on that logic.

>>77687850>Much of the liberal political apparatus remains docile; for them, nothing has meaningfully changed.I think this is wrong because the Republic was very corrupt before the Empire. I wouldn't characterise it as a "liberal political apparatus". Really the liberals and progressives of the senate are few in number, Padme and then the later Rebel leadership. I wouldn't exactly say it was liberal apparatus being docile for the Empire. Because the apparatus had mostly been destroyed by years of corruption. The Republic was more like the Space UN and had been weak in general. The Clone Wars enabled him to control them BUT also to enact control that had been absent by allowing armies to spread across the galaxy.
>empire posting starts againand its not even legion related
>>77693381Its a pity on a whole lot of levels considering the density of the issue in our world sending 12 year olds out to fight in wars, there would also be a whole story in of itself of the forgotten kids who ended up in that environment, the stormtrooper conditioning itself and a whole gamut of events that led up to being in that position. Something anyone who's run SW games can relate to a lot of players having an interest in playing former or current Imperials can attest and thats not even taking into account the huge interest in stuff like the 501stMind you, this is the same company that will film movies in a province full of active concentrations camps and thank those responsible for the courtesy of doing so
>>77693429>Honestly if not for the plot armor they received the rebels shouldn't have been able to make half of the gains they did in the galactic civil war.Actually the gains they made did make sense because: the Senate had been used to maintain some semblance of control. And in ANH they got rid of the Senate, the last vestiges of that appearance of old control. And when they got rid of that they moved towards the Governor's controlling the systems. They were dependent on the Death Star as maintaining that control. But without the Death Star many more systems rebelled, as Leia put it, the more you tighten your grasp, the more systems fall through your fingers. Of course in a way you could say this was a longer term plan of control since Palpatine trapped the pratically all the Rebels over Endor. Which of course ended badly for him. The thing is the Galaxy is too big a place for anyone to adequately maintain a power base over.>something the New Republic failed to beThat's because nu-Canon books are shit and the New Republic demilitarised.

>>77693639That's not right because the Jedi weren't corrupting it, he Jedi actually became corrupted by it. The Jedi dogma led them down a certain path of service that helped diminish their power in the force.>>77693581I mean my point more was about how stating that the Republic's fall somehow fits that person's cycle of politics was kind of incorrect because they were characterising the Republic as some liberal bastion when it wasn't. Ultimately it seems like there is a mixture of Palpatines machinations as well as the decay happening more generally.>>77693571Eh I wasn't being austistic about it.
