Author, one OC, on the rocks please...
>>76938641Wasn't planning on posting anything today, but I literally finished five minutes before you asked, so I may as well drop it now. Just a quick mini cyoa while I grapple with an unruly franchise.
CYOAs that don't have main antagonists either as a character or faction are shit.
>>76938620I'm not sharing the WIP. I'm posting it as an anchor, so if any anon wants to submit an entry, I can find them more easily, and add them promptly.
>>76938734It's literally a work-in-progress
>>76938694A 'pick one' cyoa, huh? It doesn't go down as strong as I'd like but it's something. It reminds me of the past, when I enjoyed such things, thanks author.
>>76938694I like it. Simple, but it's got that old school charm.Does the Mind Key work on people who are sleeping? Or does it wake them up?
>>76938790Mind key puts anybody it's put in to sleep while it's in, but wakes them up when it's removed. If the person's already asleep, getting it in is easy, but they'll awaken upon removal.
>>76938770It is, but it isn't mine, so it doesn't count as WIP-posting. It's a community effort, and enough anons showed interest in it to convince me that it can be finished through their efforts.
>>76938817Will they know that I just stuck a key in their ear? Is it painful?
>>76938834No and no.

>>76938870If cyoag is fine then how come its most popular cyoas are adventureless rollshit?
>>76938828You can play all the word games you want. It's still a WIP. Customary Change of Citizenship was a community effort, and the organizer didn't have to post any half-finished garbage. People made their submissions, and then a month or two later, the full CYOA came out. We don't need a fucking changelog every single thread.
take the gil pill
>>76938870Fodder for the lowest common denominator is universally crap.
>>76938904Customary Change of Citizenship was different. iirc it primarily relied on discord for interactions, and it was only as long as the number of anons who submitted entries for it.This one is different. It's about each and every author on the allsync, and only cares about what cyoag thinks, not discord nor reddit. If you don't like it, you can filter it easy. Otherwise, I have at least as much right to post it each thread as the gilposter has to post his gilshit each thread. I'm posting about a cyoa, at least.

>>76939173I like the rotting saint, just wish he and his acolytes would use some fucking perfume.
>>76939173It has the most companions in any cyoa. Law of averages dictates that at least a few of them will be good.
So, the basis of the CYOA I'm currently working in is that you play a Petty King (the reach of your power ranging from a single hamlet at the minimum to something on-par with a proper Medieval king at the maximum –thankfully all your neighbours are pretty much in the same boat) in a setting loosely based off of 6th Century/500s AD Britain, with a very much tongue-in-cheek tone influenced by Pythonesque "Dung Ages" humour that I'm aware is completely inaccurate, but love all the same.If anyone happens to have any suggestions or recommendations, I'm all too happy to hear them. Right now the parts I do kinda have nailed down are Positive/Negative Traits, Artefacts and Companions, whilst I have plans for something to do with lands and external relations, but not much of an idea as to how I'll actually go about them.
Does anyone have the latest version of Martial Path?
>>76939227Reference to Breton populations south and over the sea for eastern kings? Obligatory 4th bog castle reference built on the ruins of its predecessors. Some kind of Stamford bridge send up, maybe the would-be lone Viking is helped by shoddy construction sending half the attackers into the river before they close in (the bards leave that out of course). Truth be told I know fuck all about British folklore.
>>76939227Being able to read has to be a perk, knowing laws is not influenced by you being able to read.
>>76939227Thistlewaiste nobility CYOA and Lone Observer be the noble CYOA are good sources of inspiration.
>>76939316Pretty sure that WiP is Thistle.
>>76939362How could you tell?
>>76939394You mentioned it a while back. Might want to avoid that particular avatar, anons are disturbingly liable to try waifuing authors and that dark lords is flavour of the month gaebait at the minute.
>>76938694Hmmm... Give me the crystal key. Sounds like it has a lot of fun potential. If nothing else i can use it for free internet. But i could go and do stuff like play videogames in perfect vr or get a fancy weapon if i manage to put a lock on it or something. Pew Pew.
>>76938694Obviously I gotta go with the Sky Key. Lots of power which isn't limited by actually using it as a key. Only have to worry about any portal I try to open up and training my grip strength for flight.
>>76939425Guy who replied with "How could you tell?" wasn't me, but yep it is I. Personally I have no idea who that avatar is, other than that their character is apparently called Thistle or something.
>>76939768Dungeon Meshi's actually pretty great as far as manga go, lots of attention to detail and callbacks that feel earned. Excellent dungeon ecology too, lots for GMs to learn from. The artist just so happens to have gone with the "feminine elves" convention.

>>76939846nta but it is fairly appalling
I do not like Traveller or Planeswalker Rising. There I said it.
>>76939217Anti-semite.Some traditions never die, for good reason.
>>76939846>>76939871Depends on what your expectations are, for me it does exactly what it says on the tin which is make a cookery show of everything edible you might find in a dungeon with spates of violence and character development in between. Not everything needs to be Shakespeare.
>>76938694The premise is fascinating, and the writing has a nostalgic air to it that comes out as refreshing in this day and age. It's simple yet thought-provoking. What every CYOA should aspire to be.My questions are as follows; How does the 4D Key deal with paradoxes? Does it create a stable time loop? What would the effect be if one were to open a screen with a crystal key and a written document?Does making changes in the digital realm ever affect the files one enters?
>>76939768Inhumanly basedLooking forward to the final product
>>76939846Actually read more manga and come back. Dungeon Meshi is a 9/10 manga. BTW 90% of manga is trash, 8% is mediocre and the rest is good and then really good. And no, Shingeki no Kyojin is not one of those good ones mr newfag>t has been reading manga for 18 years
>>76939909>How does the 4D Key deal with paradoxes? Does it create a stable time loop?If you act in a way that enforces the stable time loop good for you, otherwise you die along with a 200 m area around you thanks to space-time collapsing on you.
>>76939227I feel this should be considered as what's actually happening at that point...
>>76939950Good point, the whole west was getting GERM'D.
>>76939227Now, this may be outside the scope of your CYOA, but the evolution of laws in Europe during that time period took a very interesting turn. It was a haphazard mix of traditional custom, leftover Roman law, and church law.Perhaps you might allow the player to become a legislator. Codifying traditional laws, eliminating superstitious laws (i.e. trial by ordeal), and even establishing courts. CYOAs often forget that there's more to a civilization than warfare and technology
>>76939909T-thanks. >How does the 4D Key deal with paradoxes? It's a semi-self-correcting timeline. If you go back, you'll be the only version of yourself in the past. Asking around would reveal that "past you" went out of sight for a moment and disappeared, for example. It's also a one-way trip, which limits paradox possibilities. >Does it create a stable time loop?It doesn't.>What would the effect be if one were to open a screen with a crystal key and a written document? You'd enter into a plain white room, and everything you would say would appear in front of you, in the 'document'. Entering digital space doesn't really give you more influence, but rather a different perspective. >Does making changes in the digital realm ever affect the files one enters?Yes and no, depending on the medium. In general, unintentional changes won't be recorded, and anything reliant on physical record storage, such as cassettes or disks, would be impossible to change from within.
>>76939936Ok that's fair.
>>76939227You might want to know that a certain point crossbows were banned by the pope and only to be used against infidels since they were that powerful and game changing, consider if the story is before or later of that.
>>76939916I want to ____ Thistle!
>>76939933What are your top mangas anon
>>76938635Luxurious Palace. I'm not quite sure how, but I'd have to figure out a business to get into. Probably have to get into mining or oil or some local resource.
Man it feels good to get all the images I need for My CYOA, but realizing I have to actually write shit is fucking exhausting.
>>76940153Great, keep it up anon.
>>76939993>T-thanks.You're welcome. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future. These are impressive ideas that make sense after the fact, the kind that makes you say; How did I not think of that?
>>76940153Funny. For me it's the opposite. Writing comes easy but image gathering is what stumps me.
I'm almost dodone with my cyoa and I feel emptyit was supposed to be better than this
>>76940190Exact same here – in my experience, images are by far the part of a CYOA that takes the longest and the most effort.
>>76940251Ey, same my man. Once it gets to the final stages all motivation disappears. Once you step into proofreading and polishing it stops being a fun task and starts becoming laborious work.
>>76940190>>76940262Sure it takes along time but atleast the quality of the images is relatively static, writing is hard, you have to actually think about it.
>>76940308I find the opposite given images are relatively out of my control when dumb perfectionism kicks in.
>>76940338Really, I suppose the plus side of the art style I'm going for the images in Petty King is that if all else fails, I can pretty much just try drawing the images I want myself (I know for a fact there's a couple options I'm definitely doing that for)
>>76940308anon I find writing is relatively easy but given my complete lack of photoshop skills I've never been confident enough to make a proper CYOA. any advice?
>>76938694Crystal Key. It's got technological upgrade powers, and it allows you to walk into other places. I can use it to safely acquire some pretty nice items.
>>76940251Finish what you started
>>76940426I've seen people get away with text pdfs, if they can so can you.
>>76940426Do the thing and eventually you will get better i suppose. So long it isn't a complete eyesore it should do fine.
>>76940308I feel you, >>76940338With writing, I can keep working and adjusting until I make something I'm happy with. But it's incredibly difficult to find images that suit what I've written. For example, I wrote most of Anklet in a single cold winter afternoon. Gathering/editing the images, on the other hand took me months. You'll notice a couple crude photoshops in there, because sometimes I just took those "almost-perfect" images and tweaked the colours etc.
>>76940153>>76940190Why not just team up?
>>76938694Oh, I hadn't realised it was OC given the old school vibe. Let's see...>hypnotist's watchThe fetishfag within draws me to the 4D key but really any time travel at all is a gold mine. Imagine how effective experimental controls can be when they're the exact same subject under the same conditions. A shame I'm limited to 5 min experiments.
>>76940479You did a damn good job anon, have any others in mind?>>76940500Commitment issues?
>>76940500Heh, that's would be a dream. In all seriousness though, making a CYOA is very personal for me. Writing is important, but it's still a very visual medium. The images are just as important to me as the writing- to hand that off to someone else just wouldn't feel right to me.

>>76940530Could be. What's the pitch?
>>76940530Do the thing anon. I believe in you.
>>76940520>>76940523Do a one-off cyoa then.If you succeed, you become an unstoppable duo.If you fail, you're no worse-off.
>>76940520Appreciate it, man. Aside from the little "Property Inheritance" CYOA, I haven't made anything else.I did put a lot of work into a jokey waifu CYOA that I planned to release anonymously, but I hit a roadblock for the images. I've been playing Artbreeder a bit, and I like how it makes portraits, so who knows? I also had an idea for a fantasy barbarian tribe CYOA, where you guide a tribe in the tundra in a time where the ice is receding and large empires are encroaching upon your ancestral land. Never got past the early stages, but I haven't discarded the idea.
tfw no fate oc
>>76940426Don't worry too much about the design side, everyone seems to mostly care about the content. Just do the basics, consistent alignment, consistent choice box sizes. Copy the layouts of other author's cyoas until you figure out what does and doesn't work.
>>76940261I don't like the idea of cross-dimensional worlds. I like whole settings set in one universe fleshed out with unique factions/characters.I just can't get it or understand why others love it so much.
>>76940602>Property InheritanceCan't recall that one, mind posting it? Barbarian goodness sounds neat, especially with a slightly fantastical bent to contrast it with slightly more grounded tribebuilders like what Thistle peddles.
>>76940500>>76940520>Commitment issues?Yes, I worry about living up to expectations so I never co-operate on anything, I've always wanted to though, but most cyoas don't interest me enough to put the effort into.

>>76941664Depends on how intriguing those hints are. It'd be hard to pull off but power to you if you manage it.
Thoughts on these options for starting "Path"?>Option 1: You become a sorcerer as you are. Magical power starts low but can grow steadily. If you're good, you can eventually gain an immortality scheme. You have no obligations.>Option 2: You become a magical girl. Moderate-high base power, but only grows in breakthroughs which aren't guaranteed, and you're ageless immortal but also perma-stuck as a teen girl. Fit in with most other magicals, but obliged to fight monsters>Option 3: You become a "warlock". Extremely powerful at the start, even more than a Magical Girl, with the steady growth from practice of sorcerers. Literally can't die, but suffer degeneration, ultimately doomed to end up as a lich or, as a failure state, self-aware ash or separated body parts unless a third party reconstitutes you. No real obligations but a number of supernatural factions dislike you automatically.

>>76944628Apparently, since no one in this thread imagined that couples actually plan the birth window a long time before the actual pregnancy. Far from winter, with no grand events occurring during that time, with her mom being available to come help us out on the first couple of months. Checking with my superiors and clients to see how things are looking professionally around that time, and preparing one of the rookies to handle the accounts for a bit while I take shorter hours for several months. All these things are important, and have to be accounted for.

The drawbacks are pretty mild, vampires of this breed have icy blue eyes that are very sensitive to UV light, so sunglasses or goggles are necessary in daylight. but otherwise the sun has no negative effects. The turning process is prolonged with the chance to back out, but since it’s mostly beneficial I doubt it will be a major issue. Dhampirs aren’t much of a downside, and pigs being able to smell one of these vampires isn’t a big deal either. Changes to appearance beyond becoming more attractive are limited to sharp canines for feeding, pointy ears, and the aforementioned icy blue eyes.[1/2]
>>76937937>>76947007Cont.Feeding needs are pretty modest, 3 pints of blood per month, taken fresh from any warm-blooded animal. The process is a bit messy because of ripper, but also pleasant to the animal because of hickies so that’s less of a problem. Feeding is also this breed’s way of avoiding aging through leech and healing injuries through corpsman. If a vampire goes too long without feeding, it grows monstrous in appearance and is driven by hunger to feed, but that’s it.The benefits are numerous. Agelessness if the vampire feeds regularly, with a sort of ability to set ones age by managing feeding until it reaches the desired age and then feeding regularly enough to halt aging, or feeding more to reduce age. The vampire is also more beautiful, physically and mentally enhanced, and can still enjoy most of the pleasures of human existence like going outdoors during the daytime (albeit with eye protection) and mundane food and drink. Because humans aren’t needed for feeding, there’s no real downside to turning all of humanity. The world would probably be better off if this strain spread and turned humanity into smarter, stronger, beautiful, and ageless superhumans that just need some non-human livestock like goats to feed from. That being said, I do want to ask everyone: If given the chance to become one of these vampires, would you take the offer? If yes, is there anything that might make you hesitate? If no, then why would you refuse?[2/2]
>>76941752Why do you think that magical girls are any more cringe than the rest of anime? Don't reply if you are one of those out-of-touch insecure faggots who think that everybody dislikes anime.
>>76947019I wouldn't take it. Wearing glasses all the time sucks, and I do want to eventually die.

>>76940637Fate is the lowest form of anime/LN/VN
>>76947096Watch the next reply be "trannie"
>>76947063I mean, you can still die of old age since young blood just slows aging and minimal feeding won't replenish your years fast enough to stay ageless. Also you'll probably die by accident eventually after a long enough time even if you do keep up regular feeding. The glasses thing I get, day walker would be a bit more appealing just because it's no downsides at all. I'll see if I can come up with the 5 points for the upgrade. You didn't mention the feeding needs, so I take it ripper and caught fresh aren't deal breakers for you?
>>76947164Eh, naruto was worse
>>76939895>>76939916>>76940014Male elves are for ________________________
>>76947096I considered that. The origin was brainstorming what was initially just going to be a "Magical Girl" CYOA. I wanted a non-tranny option but also a compelling reason to go with the traditional, and came up with the idea of sorcerers being a different class of mage, and thereafter the warlock/lich path to balance it out.My other idea was to have "Magical Boy" be a perk that would mean you were a bit weaker, but automatically partnered with a stronger Magical Girl (To compare to Cardcaptor, playing as Xiaolang rather than Sakura)I might not move forward with the CYOA at all, though. Magical Girls are a rough theme to work with because you expect players to be normal males (and because it would need to be distinct from Accidental, which did the theme really well)
