>>76937618I dont play any of the formats on the file name, is there more to this than just being a 1 drop green counterspell with a cantrip?
>>76937662obviously it hits stuffy doll for 3 which can't kill it
>>76937631MTG is like The Simpsons...It's been dead for long, yet it keeps going for a purely financial reason
>>76937631It varies from TCG to TCG, depending heavily on its' popularity. If WotC announced TODAY that no more cards were being printed, then you can bet your ass that most cards would be devalued instantly. However, the reserved list, as well as other cards that had criminally small print runs, would hold value (and creep up) over time, since they're now guaranteed to be a collector's item. Standard and Pioneer would die overnight. Modern, Pauper, and EDH players would linger for a long time, depending on their local groups, before moving on. Old School MTG and Cube would be completely unaffected, since they already are formats completely untouched by WotC or the greater Magic as a whole. Kitchen Table fun with friends would linger a while, as well, so long as people are interested. In short; the average card becomes worthless and the majority of formats die, but the game would linger on in some form, forever. >>76937692That's true to an extent, but we know from the Harry Potter and Transformers TCGs that highly-sought-after cards retain their value well even long after a game has died. Even some OG Dragonball cards fetch quite a lot. Hell, even completely-unusable Yugioh cards from the Bandai game go for a fucking MINT.
>>76937586They're not going to reset the game at this point. They know they wouldn't have the goodwill to get people to sign on to Magic 2.0 after having all their collections wiped. It's the same reason there will never be a World of Warcraft II--people want to keep using their old things while also getting new ones. And, after 4e, WotC is fully aware that people will prioritize continuing to play with their extant toys if you push too hard.>>76937631I don't think we can really compare directly to TCGs that have died before. Most of them died due to failing to get fully off the ground or slowly losing their customer base, not slamming into a brick wall after dominating the market for two decades.>What about the community?Given that you're talking about a nonrotating fan-made format, a decent amount would still hang around even if WotC stopped printing cards tomorrow. But that also means that the game wouldn't really fully die--as long as people were still playing in some capacity, WotC could at any time decide to start printing cards again and pick up where they left off.
>>76937662If I remember Stuffy Doll correctly, it deals the relevant damage, not the bolt.Assuming the Stuffy Doll was yours.>creature... an opponent controls>Giant, Wizard, or spell you controlledYou don't get it from the initial damage to your own Doll, and the Doll's damage is an ability of a non-Giant/Wizard permanent, not a spell.
>>76937692Maybe 1% of the playerbase has ever cared about paying tournaments.
>>76937768But that's what drives the collectors market
>>76937662>120.4a First, if an effect is causing damage to be dealt to a creature and that effect specifies that excess damage is dealt to another object or player instead, the damage event is modified to deal damage accordingly. Excess damage is damage greater than lethal damage that would be dealt to a creature. Lethal damage is the creature’s toughness minus damage marked on that creature and other damage being dealt to it at the same time as this damage. Any damage greater than 1 is excess damage if the source dealing that damage has deathtouch.Lethal damage doesn't take into account whether or not a creature has indestructible. So, assuming you were talking about an opponent's Stuffy Doll, yes.

Hydroid krasis seems like an overall good card but idk if it’s worth playing because it’s just good, it has no other synergy in the deck and I’m already playing sphinx’s revelation and have a lot of card advantage enchantments/creatures already...I play 13 ramp spells and 1 sylvan caryatid, I’m debating switching it for a lotus cobra but Idk if I’d rather have the guaranteed mana over having more value on something that can be Pinged out immediately...I am playing 2 hard counters (neutralize and sublime epiphany) and then commit to memory can delay a spell but I play it more to get my cards back in case of a wrath. I think that elspeth conquers death is really good removal, in my any permanent removal slot I have detention sphere because I feel like the ability to kill a bunch of tokens is more valuable than elspeth conquers deaths 2nd and 3rd ability...I think one of my more cheeky includes is risen reef with gruul omnath/zendikars took, its really fun when it works but idk if that’s just putting too much variance in it. >>76938231Phylath is decent redundancy, a good keep if you're basic-heavy.Nyxbloom Ancient is a bait winmore card in this deck IMO, only keep it if you have some free slots left. The Krasis is good value and a decent finisher should the game go long enough, your call if you think its worth it.I actually think your ramp package is a little small for a dedicated lands deck. I'd try and squeeze the cobra in there without removing what's already there. >>76938789Yes and no. WotC uses the same "exile" language for all of these niche situations, but Adventures get exiled where you can still access them, while plain exiled cards have scant tools that let you interact with them and fewer to none still will ever be run by an average player. Having separate "Exiled but I can still access it" "Exiled for real" zones is reasonable.

>>76938938If you run Riftsweeper as removal and not recovery, you're playing in a way more interesting meta than I've ever seen. It doesn't matter, You the player, will naturally care less about "this card got Path'd oh well, maybe next game" than "I Praetor's Grasped this and I actually intend to cast in one of these turns."Those exiles serve different purposes, even if you could equally interact with them with the scant tools available.I still don't think a player can interact with a card they own that I exiled face down with Praetor's Grasp. I could give that card back with some BFZ eldrazi because an opponent owns the card and it doesn't specify face up or face down, but the removal for Suspend cards specify "face-up exiled card".White needs that "Exile all exiled cards" idea.
>>76938961>Should I make a bottom 3rd division for mana? >>76940058Blind hope, I guess
>>76940043lol no magic has been dead at a spiritual level for nearly a decade now
>>76939865Legit. There ain’t a single snow card that freeze anyone and weve yet to see what this magic silver bullet snow hate card is suppose to be. The fact that wotc devs keep gushing about snow lands only to ignore questions about how it’s being implemented and looking like it’s just here to power creep basic lands is kinda concerning. Then again, Fleischer said the only reason they did it was because that’s what the focus groups said they wanted after modern horizons. Theyre slaves to marketers
>>76940123We'll see non snow hate this set, but no snow hate. I'd bet money.
>>76939554Its a good thing its 4 CMC so that it DOESNT WORK with the new Angel that recurs 3 CMC and below things from your graveyard. Yes, I know she sucks.
How does it feel knowing that your format is the cancer killing magic, and that every disaster of a decision that WoTC has made for the last several years has been about getting the paypigs of your format to open their wallets?
>>76939570>oh no the angel support promotes running the best-looking angelsThis is a fucking home run man
>>76940171Feelin' pretty good man, I hate wotc and I'm proud of being one of the people that helped kill their cash cow.
>>76940165>the new Angel that recurs 3 CMC and below things from your graveyardThe new angel only recurs things 2 CMC or lower. Even worse, the Orzhov angel legend of the set doesn't even do anything with angels and probably discourages an angel strategy overall since angels are high CMC generally so casting two in one turn is difficult.
>>76939920It's actually probably simic.>combat trick sucks>bounce sucks>protection is middling and wont stop wipes like boros or golgariDimir at the very least has the capacity to cuckold top of library tutors which can be a powerful interaction, or destroy certain combo pieces. Feels weird to remember simic used to suck. If simic charm were printed today it would probably read>counter target non creature spell or ability>destroy target non creature permanent>look for a land and put it onto the battlefield

>>76940223You're already running the least color, every other color is a step up.I'm honestly a little sad they didn't go for full Mardu angel tribal, but doing color pairs instead of triads was probably the right call for the plane.
>>76940227>Fallen Angels were Serra angels, crowned with a Horned Halo, who were under the command of an Angel Keeper. Fallen angels tended to require sacrifices to remain strong. These were very powerful creatures, used by wizards as a means to gain more power. According to a Dominarian fable, an angel who dies as a fallen angel dies forever. The most famous fallen angel was Trine. Another was controlled by the wizard Dreygar in the western Domains.https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/AngelThere are also angels of vengeance, which I hadn't noticed earlier, but they're still a rare exception, and it mentions them being forced to commit acts against their nature.>>76940253Wrong. Once again they were very rare, in fact I'm pretty sure that's the only one like that, can't remember any off the top of my head.
>>76937499>TQ>A Worldwake JtMS, FRF Ugin, and 4 whole Commander 2016 decks>Blogpost incomingMy old neighbor was an owner of an LGS that went out of business. He and his wife were nice, but we didn’t talk much. My wife and I played lots of MtG in our living room during college, so they could probably hear us coming and going. One night, we hear a knock on the door and it’s our neighbor. He just gave us the last of his Magic cards, as he wasn’t interested in the game anymore. He didn’t want any money, just for us to enjoy the cards.I think he blamed MtG in part for why his store failed, as he wanted to cater to a different crowd but needed to lean on the game for income. If you happen to be a fa/tg/it, Rhett, I just want you to know we still play with all those cards. I actually have a functional UW Control Modern deck thanks to you. >>76940165>>76940200Ugh, even fuckin worse than I thought. Fucking trash card.

I actually really dig the valkyrie aesthetic. This is the first time I've really been tempted to build a tribal deck.
>>76940332Wow three black angels and five Orzhov before Kaldheim and Commander legends. Totally comparable with the 135 in mono white.
>>76940496why bright purple and bright blue tho
>>76940501Funnily enough there are more monowhite angels than there any other properly colored monocolored cards of any other iconic. Except demons, wotc for whatever reason never makes nonblack demons, and rarely makes them multicolored.
>>76940533Speaking of multicolored demons, considering there's a D&D Forgotten Realms set coming up, will get get rakdos demons and orzhov devils?
>>76940400And also black mana
Now this here... this looks like fun. And a reason to finally use my thoughtseize in commander.
>>76940501Nobody said that there were as many black angels as there were white. Just that black angels have always, in some capacity or another, been around. They aren't breaking any fundamental rule of the setting because the setting has always allowed for these things.
>>76939038That's actually my peenus weenus early in the morning when I'm waking up
>>76940417I'm going to put together an orzhov Angels deck. Its probably going to be shit, but I'm going to do it, damn it!
>>76940586No. Only if they're fallen corrupted angels. That's the previously established rule.>>76940603Exactly, and every single black angel in the past was a corrupted angel of some form.
>>76940625So it was always possible for an angel to exist that consisted entirely of black mana. Meaning that being an incarnation of pure white mana was never a requirement of being an angel. These angels just come into existence in that state, which is a state that angels have always been able to exist in.
>>76940598>or discards Holy fuck I thought it was just It That Betrays text. That's fucking bananas. And its an infinite mana sink. This is going to be the default mono B goodstuff commander from now on huh?
>>76940519;^)
>>76940641Yes they come into existence as mono white, and it can be corrupted or subverted, but I thought you said the black kaldheim angels weren't corrupted or anything, just that was how they were formed, which is breaking the rules, because up until now it took powerful magical corruption to make an angel monoblack.
>>76940625The lore about corrupted angels all refers specifically to Serra angels, which weren't even naturally-occurring. They were actively constructed by someone making white mana golems, and so don't represent any kind of universal constant.
>>76940618What is even the theme of Kaldheim Angels?

>>76940645It seems like the kind of commander i build the deck around but that costs 5 mana and gets removed instantly after i cast it, leaving me to do nothing 70% of the games, where the other 30% i just win instantly as everyone concedes
>>76940750I don't think an uncommon is going to be the legendary giant payoff.
>>76940683I dunno man, it's just fucking weird seeing non corrupted monoblack angels. Also I'm pretty sure it's the norm for them to be white Mana constructs, at least last I checked. They're basically speshul elementals but for white iirc.
>>76940682Different plane, different rules. It's previously been established that angels can exist as mono-black, so there's no reason that they couldn't come into existence in that state on some planes.
>>76940763Assuming you're not being sarcastic, it's 1v1 commander but you can only use commanders and cards with CMC 3 or less, 25 life and 50 card deck.It was a hot meme for less then a year before dying without a trace cause the format was solved in less than a month and just devolved into midrange goodstuff.dec the format

Name a more cringe EDH color identity than monoblack. Protip: you can't.Call Izzet decks reddit all you want, but it's objective fact that every mono black deck uses the same shell of 60 cards and most times their commander is interchangeable with just about any other black commander. >>76941616Get out while you can, newfag.

>>76941616I wonder if green is the most autopilot kinda mono color deck to play out of the 5 or if that’s still red.
>>76941659>>76941692Honestly, I find the best results for mana ramp with this card being having only 3 or so lands in hand rather then like 4 or 5 lands. You don't need 100% full value from a card to make it worth it, and getting to play 2 or 3 extra lands is plenty enough to set you up for the rest of the game.
>>76941743You run out of gas quickly and it's a dead draw pretty in pretty much every situation other than the opening hand.
>>76941853Not in a deck that can abuse it
>>76941853>Running out of gasThen you should have ordered more! Those simic players aren't gonna gas themselves.
>>76941921Sorry dude. The best ramp cards are still the land tutors and Exploration. If you devote your hand to playing lands youll just be stuck playing one spell per turn off the top of the library.
YETI! I AM THE YETI!
>>76941616Because it's useless outside of your opening hand
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W4a25ty1Aohow bad is it gonna be?
>>76941616It looks better than it is, especially for landfall decks. Since you can only put them into play from your hand, it's basically useless after the early game, as a lot of your landfall triggers in the mid- and late-game are going to come from recurring various flavors of fetchland. The lands coming down on your opponents' turns means you won't be able to line up your triggers advantageously. It really just doesn't end up pulling its weight.

>>76942318With relatively few exceptions, everything in the game is spread across at least two colors. Sure, in a number of those cases, the secondary color does a pretty poor imitation of the primary color, but there's still some capacity for it that exists outside of the primary color. When you get up to four colors, you can pretty much do almost anything in the game, with only a handful of things that you do slightly worse than five color. You don't have any real weaknesses to cover, and you don't have to make any major compromises: you can just play goodstuff. Then, rather than giving the decks any kind of real focus, they made all the commanders either incredibly generic or just an extant three-color archetype with an additional color tacked on. Atraxa and Breya are the best-known ones from the batch...and Atraxa is just a pick-your-poison smorgasbord of cancer, while Breya is just Sharuum but with red. The partner combinations are also intentionally generic so that you can combine them however you want, but they don't give you anything to really grab onto. And, flavorfully, four-color is just a mess. Every color shares some conceptual space with each other color, which strengthens the flavor of color pairs and, indirectly, trios. Black and green share conceptual space related to the survival of the fittest, the cycle of life and death, and pragmatism above idealism. This tells us something about the flavor of BG as a color combination, but also tells us something about URW as a color combination--it cares more about individual refinement than about dominance, preserves rather than recycles, and places the pursuit of ideals above all else. That doesn't work with four-color--when the only color you're missing is black, you've parceled up most of black's concepts and gotten at them from slightly different angles.

Color combinations can't reasonably be ranked, as it is possible to build a based deck in any color combination as long as you have a strong theme that you stick to instead of just devolving into goodstuff or DTDC.(Note that this may be purely theoretical in the case of Simic and Sultai, but the math holds.)

>>76943090>>76943134Who as cringe?
>>76943029which would you say are the most casual? and the most fun?
>>76943079Pic related
>>76943162Most casual is probably King Macar Vehicles or Drana Vampire Waifus. Most fun is Liliana, zombies are my favorite tribe.
>>76943200Nice, he's one of my favorites. Also love his art, the way the stone is done looks like some sort of fancy border.
>>76943033Pretty unanimous.Green check for based, red x for cringe.Next>mono blueCringe imo
>>76943299i vote cringe
>>76943299I'm not gonna do that, I'll just say it is based. Also count me as a vote for all monocolor being based,
>>76943299Cringe
>>76943299mono blue is cringe
>>76943067Dangerously based
>>76943221okay, last one. Do you think erebos can do well in the GUx hellscape I play?
>>76943299Ill wait longer when we hit the more controversial colors.Next>mono greenBased
>>76943375based
>>76943375Based
>>76943375Based but only if using a kamigawa commander.
>>76943373That I can't tell you, not knowing your meta. He is among the stronger of my decks. Take a look.https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ereboss-big-black-dck/
>>76943375Based.
>>76943339Thanks. Old foils are kino
>>76943375>mono blackCringe, literally 90% same deck everytime
>>76943467agreed its boring as fuck and the same thing every gameI vote mono B as cringe
>>76943375Mostly based. Its when you combine it with blue is when it becomes cancer.
>>76943467I like mono black, it's pretty cool. Lots of kino flavor from back in the day.
>>76943467might need a new thread to continue this
>>76943467Agreed as well. Toshiro is the only mono black deck thats really stuck around for me because I can at least kill shit rather than durdle until I find coffers
>>76943467Based.
>>76943467It's cringe
>>76943467Double Based. Fuck you.
>>76943467>>76943375What the fuck, are you niggers serious, mono green, based? No fucking way. You mean to tell me shit like this or that bard guy are based? With what they've done with green, its inherently cringe, fuck off.
>>76943515tranny detected
>>76943515Every single mono color is based. We don't even need to be going over the mono colored ones, let's just mark em all based and move on.
>>76943525>greenigger apologist
>>76943550>>76943550might want to continue in next bread
>>76943556Ya ill move it to next thread
>>76943515I voted based for green just because of simple strats like big smash, same reason black is based imo, though we do need a sub-based or sub-cringe category for specific commanders down the line.
>>76942611>play a 3 color commander>it's actually mono
>>76942611the OG elder dragons were 3 colors
>>76943467There are a lot of good stuff black decks, but also some interesting unique strategies. A lot of variance.I'll be optimistic and vote based.
>>76942757i have five based decks, two cringe (one is going to be switched to another cringe), and an ultra cringe that will end up being just a cringe.averages out to be moderately based
>>76938059>>76938231>lotus cobra not already in the deck>cutting nerfed harrow out of landfall deck>cutting counterspell in deck with blue in it and then playing even worse versions of it>playing trash like seer's sundial when cards like tatyova exist>even considering 5 mana sorcery speed removal that doesn't even hit everything, when at those rates you should be playing boardwipes like wrath of god, austere command or almost anything elsejfc
