>>76935356get a generic desk lamp from anywhere, the important part if you're getting LED bulbs (which there is no reason not to) is to get "cool white" for color correctness, "warm white" will make everything too orange.Other than that, bright as possible is best, image related.
>>76936561I think he means that GSW is in Spain.
I've got to base some wild west/cowboy type of models and i'm not really sure what sort of effect and/or colours to go with. I'm thinking a dusty badlands sort of thing but no real idea how to do that
>>76936670it would be easier if you posted which part of the wild west you wanted to emulate, going by references is easier (ground could be yellowish, reddish or grayish)for yellow-reddish/brown with greenish-bits I do>vallejo dark sand / tallarn sand I think>vallejo sepia wash / seraphim sepia>vallejo desert dust wash / no GW equivalent I could find, it's like pale-sand+light_greenand>splashes of vallejo umber wash / agrax earthshade

Trying to make Tyranid infected Space Hulk bases. Think I'm going overboard with the rust colors. What else can I be doing to make the Tyranid corrosion pop?
>>76937237What did you use to make the organic looking bits? Is that just glue?
>>76937237There's some neat old art of the interior of Hive Ships... maybe look at some of that?
>>76937267So you use craft glue to make the shape or cover a surface, then lightly use any super glue on top. The super glue reacts with the moisture of the craft glue to form that detailing, crusting and slightly shrinking down into these organic looking patterns.I just can't figure out what color will work for it besides grimy brown and green
>>76937237>the Tyranid corrosionby that you mean the gunk on the three bottom right bases?
Top left: unironic soul, quality, realism, and artEverything else: absolute shit paint-by-trademark
>>76937362>>76937316Yeah, I was going for the halo flood gunk but maybe I should be looking at more purple or pink instead of green? Maybe give up on the pure rust look?
>>76936039 I use odourless turpenoid and it doesn't eat through anything. The only reason I put a varnish of Pledge on is to use the gloss so the oil wash goes better into recesses. Working on these guys today. Repainting over my old coat.
>>76937447I think it looks great in a Giger/Alien kind of way
What’s the least autistic way I can slap a storm shield on this guy? I know the answer is probably the default pose, but my melee beatstick needs to be holding his sword
>>76937557>Repainting over my old coat.sounds a bit like a recipe for disaster, why not strip it first?
>>76937553No, you use gloss floor varnish. Specifically Pledge. It's basically Klear.
>>76936389>Airbrushing Primers You Never Heard Of EditionYou own an airbrush and have never heard of gaia notes?
>>76937589I did for the most part with simple green. The remainder is thin enough to go right over with a new coat.Pic is the style i'm going for.
>>76937621I own an airbrush and have only heard of Gaia because I'm into MaK and follow Lincoln WrightI can't get gaia from any retailer in my country, so... yeah, if I search for "gaia" on not!ebay I only get bras

>>76937737>>76937793you... you know that enamel paints can go on a plastic part without primer?anyway, I don't follow him religiously, he rambles a lot and not all of his advice is valid; he still can get good results and was blessed by Kow-sensei himself, so he has some credentials going on for him
>>76937830every day you stray closer and closer to the afro samurai look
>>76937531>>76937501>>76937553Went with a tester base instead on the far left. I like the flesh by itself on the left blob, I think I used too much purple over the flesh on the right upper corner blotch. BUT darkening my gun metal grey with some blue and black makes the rust a bit less of a washout on the bases and the gunk looks like it stands out a bit better. What do y'all think?
Anyone used this as brush-on primer? It says it's white but the color on Amazon makes it look ugly as sin.
>>76938060Okay got the purple wash over flesh on the left. It pops but I'm leaning more towards the green and flesh on the right because it does look like xenomorphic grime
>>76936389Awesome! Happy to see something besides the endless 40k shit in these threads.
>>76938266There always seems to be a healthy mix of stuff not 40k related.
>>76938259it's just bad lighting. I tried to brush on their mecha primer once and it didnt go too well, but that could just be because i thinned it
>>76938259Not a fan of this stuff.
>>76938314I know im autistic, in hindsight I have no idea what I was thinking
>>76938365Any recommendations for white or whiteish brush on primer then? Right now the best I think I have is the basic Army Painter grey primer.
Would Bestigors make for good Possessed Marine parts, or are the not proportioned right?
>>76937621I just an airbrush with my plaguebucks. Is Gaia the go to standard for airbrush primers?
>>76938314I do that all the time but I run it though an airbrush
>>76938259I use the gray because I live in a cold area where you can't spray paint outside for half the year. It works well for me, but you have to make sure you apply it evenly with the brush to avoid puddles. Also yeah don't thin it that just defeats the purpose of primer lol.I'm using it on metal though so you need to put it on kind of thick. Thick and even with careful attention to detailed areas to avoid pooling.
>>76938278Maybe I just need to pay more attention. I'm just tired of seeing the 10,000th space marine.
>>76938656Maybe I shouldn't say "thick" but you just need very nice, even coverage over the entire model. I feel like that's actually easier to do with a brush than with a spray can. When I spray primer, I always miss some areas and get build-up in others that flakes off as I try and get it into every nook and cranny.
>>76938314>not thinning primer
>>76938656Have you tried to paint white on top of the grey vallejo primer? Does that work well?
>>76938401Iacquer primer is the best but its a hassle and produces toxic fumes.Start with Mr color, Mr surfacer at 1000 or 1200. Thin with their lacquer thinner at 1:1 to see if its worth the effort.
>>76937442I think top left is 52mm not 28mm.

>>76938656Ive primed outside, in the cold. no issues with a grainy surface or whatever. say what you want about the source. What he says and my experience match up. And he lives in a colder state than I do. Whats your excuse now anon? https://youtu.be/hvwWvJ5mCt8?t=1094Do you store your paintcans outside? maybe your unprimed minis? Do you not live in a home with heating?
>>76937013Cyan, magenta, yellow and white. Black can be mixed.
>>76936389Hail /wip/!I've been working on converting a Dreadknight into a Defiler for my Iron Warriors. Lord knows it doesn't look like a decker, but the weapon loadout is roughly similar.Anyway, what advice do you have at this stage? I feel like there's a void between the shoulders and head at the back, but I'm not sure how or if to fill it.Thank you.
>>76939111A spiked cowl? Not sure, think his static pose might be the real problem but he looks very cool.
Thoughts on repainting the base edges? Is that part of being parade or battle ready in GW tournaments?
>>76938262Far left is the best one, if anything I would say more purple and more pink. But I like my nids in lurid colours.
>>76938768Yeah it works well and is easier than painting it over black primer of course lol.
>>76938881That's great!>plump helmet PTSD kicks in*anon has been possessed by a fell mood*
>>76937575Put it on the ground under his right arm. Like he drove it into the ground to provide cover
>>76938933No the paint cans are inside but being a commercial painter for 10 years, I think you guys are idiots. The paint won't adhere right and another bigger issue is that it won't dry properly, ever, and you'll probably get moisture in your paint. Have fun pretending like you're smarter than the chemists that make the paint lol.Plus my area is very cold, below freezing temperatures all winter and snow/ice everywhere. Even if I did decide to spray paint outside in the frozen weather instead of brushing, I'm not bringing my painted stuff inside my small house to reek of awful paint fumes for hours.Brush primer is superior anyway unless you're doing a huge batch of soldiers at once. The only things I ever truly need to spray paint are terrain pieces, and I can wait until summer to do those.
>>76938401Get the Badger Stynylrez stuff, best primer I ever used
>>76939111The head feels a bit oversized for something that's meant to be towering over infantry, makes it look a bit like a giant child.
G'day, I've seen one of those cheap no name battery air brush compressor combos, I've looked up a couple of YouTube vids, all seems quite promising, do any of you have any experience with them? it'll be my first airbrush so didn't want to go nuts, using for undercoat and maybe primary colour layer, pic related, apparently 0.3 nib with 25 psi
>>76939275Pretty sure I've seen unpainted or black-primed base edges in GW tourneys. It's up to you if you want black edges to "frame" the mini or if you want to paint them as you would the base.Given that even the sweaty tourney grinders at Goonhammer have clean edges I probably wouldn't worry about it.
>>76939456Good to know, I'll have to pick that up once I finish my bottles of grey Army Painter primer.
>>76939646It's the first brush primer I've ever used so take that for what it's worth. I'll have to try the army painter stuff some time. Vallejo has such a good reputation that I just said fuck it and bought it.
>>76939275Personal preference, myself I always keep the rims black, I think it looks tidier, some people rage when that happens though.
>>76939671The Army Painter stuff feels ok, but the bottle's pretty small, so Vallejo's probably a better value buy. It also only comes in grey as far as I can tell.
>>76939275The best base edge color is goblin green.
>>76939629I have one and hate it,Mine has barely enough power to push out the most watered down of paints, and even struggled with inks and washes.Mine might’ve been defective or might be more suited for coloured dyes. But just get a proper compressor. The “always on” nature of them is a bit annoying aswell.
How long should I leave primed bits in 75% isopropyl to strip them? Is there any danger in leaving them to soak for too long?
Does anyone have any experience with agitators? I'm using army painter stuff and I don't know if the washes need agitators or just the colours, metals etc. Also, I got the wraithbone primer as I wanted to try out citadel contrast paints. I'm not really a fan of them so am I okay sticking with wraithbone for regular painting or should I switch to black or grey or something? Does it make regular colours richer like it does with contrast?Stupid questions sorry, I know, im a complete novice
>>76937830I need your strongest potions
>>76940713No time for contrast posers
>>76939610Stynylrez is the best acrylic primer hands down. But its no where near as good as Mr. Surfacer or gaia notes.
>>76940809I said I'm not keen on them. Any idea about my other questions? Thanks
>>76936561Is shipping from Spain that bad? I ordered some resin minis from a guy in Spain that he posted a week ago and my tracking says it hasn't left Spain yet. I felt guilty I was worrying about my heroquest minis while some poor fucking postman was buried in the snow
>>76940973ordered from greenstuffworld and that took for fuckin ever
>>76939111I'd beef up where the head of the hammer attaches to the shaft. Looks like one solid hit would snap it off.His crotch is also too small. His hips need something more solid to affix to.I'd also add a lot more armour plates to bulk him up. Imperial and Chaos vehicles have the metal boxes meme for a reason.>>76939620 is right. He's 5 heads tall.
i was the newbie anon from the other night. i'm almost done with this necron. for my first mini, i think it's turning out pretty well!
>>76940713I'm 99% sure you don't need a mixer in a wash. As for the primer, I don't think it matters what colour you prime in, just use what you've got. If you don't like contrast then it's not like you have any other use for the wraithbone so just crack on with that, it won't matter one but I shouldn't think
>>76941307Looks alright. You need to differentiate your inner frame grey, accent grey, and weapon grey
>>76938266then go to /toy/ and visit the scale model general or the gunpla general
>>76938778I miss using lacquer primers but I can't justify the hassle of spraying that shit indoors. Meanwhile I can just pull out any old acrylic primer and just blast away with a window openI really should set up a fume hood or something
>>76941036>>76939620>>76939202Thank you for the advice guys. Going to do some more work on it now.
>>76940713Light coloured primers are useful for things like bright reds or yellows. Black is better for metals. Other than that I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point in your painting journey.
>>76941455gotcha! im still waiting on getting an actual black paint. the local shop i go to was out, so i had to order some.>>76941445thanks, anon

>>76941549give it a cowl of some kind to tie it into other mechanicum and iron warriors automata perhaps? the exposed head and normal length neck makes it look un-40k in my opinion, more standard sci-fi. otherwise looks really good anon, much respect
>>76941549I approve of the use of mk III, iron within brother
>>76939111Nothing but respect for this kind of conversion, especially if your trying to keep the armement the same. I think it needs more chaos iconography on the armour, maybe more spikes on the head as well (or even a squat head that moulds into the shoulders more, hunchback style)
>>76942367Yeah, had an extractor fan as well, it apparently still wasn't enough
>>76941549Its probably too late, but a more dynamic/ predatory stance might look good. It is chaos after all. Knees more bent and back arched
>>76942337Do you have the right respirator? Also are you obese? I knew a guy who was old and fat have a heart attack due to not being healthy enough to wear the respirator.
>>76942517It's one of these, and I change the filters regularly, so I don't think it's that>Also are you obese?Rood. But nah
>>76939111whoa thought you were making a mechwarrior fan conversion for a sec there>>76938881I love it! is this a retail model?
There any guides or tips with kitbashing/converting? I wanna turn my Ethereal into a Cadre Fireblade and want to put some effort into it, but I never did any kitbashing before so I don't want to fuck up and lose my shit.
>>76939629Are you still on about this? Buy a good compressor and it'll last forever, you fucking ding-dong cheap bastard.

Hey guys, anyone got some good tutorials on how to paint skin?
>>76937442would I be dumb to use Shrike's face for a character conversion? I gave him his helmet since I much prefer helmets on my my marines. Admech character was what came to mind first (just recently started them, might be a cool HQ with few facial mods) or a psyker / ministorum clergy with some cybernetics. The face plate reads more like body mod than a helmet component.

The wireless ones seem interesting but I took one look and knew they'd be crap.>>76938259>>76938365>>76939610Shit I hope the Vallejo is alright. I bought some black as my first Airbrush primer. I saw a few negative reviews on the Stynlrez and have only had great experiences with Vallejo's spray primer. FWIW the white looks rather white in store.>>76940666Don't worry about alcohol hurting your minis satan. I've never encountered a plastic that's reacted poorly even with prolonged exposure. Use it on a test piece if you're concerned though, it's the smart thing to do when dealing with any new stripper.

So anons, I know some of you were interested in the idea of painting the same model to compare styles and colors similar to Johnny or shield face. I’ve narrowed it down to two models I think would make good choices. Lots of different textures and directions you could take them.So here’s the first nomination. Chaos toad sorcerer
>>76944889And then we got this, “ashana, female”
Got a bit more done on the crew.
Anyone here know how to paint scorched armor? The plan is for this guy to look like he's tried to burn off the color on the armor. I was thinking about a heavy stipple of dark brown followed by a heavy drybrush/stipple of black with a sponging of boltgun after that

>>76945091yeah the trouble is going to be leaving flecks that look natural without putting them over the discoloration

>>76945210The only thing I've been able to do with that stuff is chip away with a pick until it all breaks off. Wear safety glasses if you do that
>>76944889Is there a deadline when other Anons should finally decided on a model? May take a few weeks before I can get from where I amIf this a time others can throw in suggestions, I would say pic related if only because it's their new "USA" line
>>76945254these models are as good as junk thenfuck
I like Incubi Darkness but I don't want my marines to look like Drukhari someone forgot the edge highlights on. I'm thinking of blending some kind of grey in there to tone it down saturation wise, 50:50 mix to keep it easy.Mechanicus Standard Grey would have been a front runner if it looked like its digital swatch or the discontinued primer of the same name.
I got charged with making a diorama for Warhammer for my FLGS but I'm unsure of what I want it to be of. I'm thinking 40k but other than that I'm at a loss. >under $100 burger bucks>must be all Citadel models and terrain>must be able to fit in a standard Detlof display case>must be cool and eye-catchingI'm not sure if i want it to be a very small part of a battle depicting two sides or more a "slice of life" thing like the classic "tank going somewhere with mud and stuff" with some trudging Guardsmen. how do you paint ghost skin? the website pictures made me think the hands were made out of the same ghost-fabric as the cloaks, but they're actually moulded arms separate from it.I don't want to go too "zombie" with the skin but just doing it as the same extremely pale green/blue as the cloak/hood/spooky sheet doesn't feel right. and I don't want red outside of the corsets.

Was thinking about Necrons and can’t shake the idea of gold-silver-copper for the units based on importance. It fells like a stupidly simple concept but one I haven’t seen. Begs the question, what color would the gauss effects and crystals be? Also, are there any other hierarchical color schemes?
Has anyone tried these brushes?
>>76946212If going by rarity and price (large rubies are VERY valuable)Red for gold, green for silver, and blue for copperSapphire and ruby are the same mineral, rubies are the rarer variety. But I'd consider swapping the blue and red just for the contrast. Blue gems on gold just works visually. Although good argument for the above arrangement, blue is dark and won't be as striking so good for common troops - can't outshine the boss. Blue might work well with silver though, and green could work great for copper.

>>76946330Templar would be easy to maintain a limited and very moody pallette. If you're a high skill painter, something like an ultramarine would be cool to contrast their very civilized iconography and style with the absolute brutality of popping an eldar's head like a grape.

Fistfag here, new to painting yellow, how’d I do guys?
Working on making the first painting video for my Youtube channel, and decided to start by painting Lumineth Realmlords in my own color scheme. Took a long time, and I still gotta paint 9 more (and the horse dudes), but I am really happy how it came out.
>>76946807Looks decent tabletop quality. You're going to have a really hard time getting traction as a painting channel with that quality unless you bring something unique to the table, whether that's operationalizing your techniques, going deep into color theory, or being a girl.I dunno, you might also be super funny and photogenic, but based on what I see I wouldn't watch your videos.
>>76946948Fair criticisms. It's an experiment, I do paint streams and some enjoy em (obviously my friends are gonna say they are good), worst case I make a few vids, they bomb, and I just move on.
>>76946807instagram could work better, double as a blog and make much more condensed content
>>76936389I legit thought that was a bowl. I like to get high and paint.
>>76937237Theres a neat tutorial for making skin texture by microwaving pva/wood glue. Could be neat for drapping over walls. Will slap it up when I get home
Well I guess I'm not priming today either
>>76947206good time to invest in that airbrush then
>>76939275Paint them any colour you like (including black) as long as they're uniform and neat. Unpainted or messy edges look shitty and always subtract from the model. It's a very quick and easy job.
>>76944431Personally, I've had really bad experiences with vallejo not covering well, or staying tacky forever on the mini. I have like 3 different colors that I just refuse to touch, now.>>76947017I do also have an Instagram, trying to branch out to other platforms as well.
>>76947206Just brush prime
>>76947206>meanwhile in Siberia
Tell me /wip/, is there a way to save this? I did it while drunk and tired waking up to this thing. And yes, some pieces have broken off i need to get back onto it.
>>76948094It's salvageable, easily. Is the colorscheme basically correct? What are you trying to achieve in looks and techniques? Depending on what you're going for, that could be a decent base to work from. Personally, I would just leave the weird janky gradients and start edge highlighting like mad over the top of everything; I think that would actually look pretty cool. But it's all about what you want to do with it.
>>76944279Thought it was Doctor Doom for a moment
>>76948045nah just Finland
Is it autistic to paint strip entire squads of miniatures if you catch mold lines you didn't remove? I'm thinking of doing this to all my minis for Kill Team, so that shouldn't be such a pain compared to stripping armies of non-skirmish game size.
>>76947206Speaking of priming and cold weather. Can I spray them outside, even if it's cold, and then quickly move the models inside to dry?Of course with decent ventilation.
>>76949016Yeah you can let them dry inside but ventilation is indeed the key, otherwise they'll smell for couple of hours and you get a headache and shit
Continued progress. Not sure what color to go for on the staff
>>76949035Was thinking of putting them in my bathroom. It has some pretty decent ventilation. Could I also open a window? Or would the temperature drop to much? It's about 0 C here, so it isn't the same situation like Finlandanon.
Does anyone have a good 3rd party site to buy combimeltas? Kitting out some new raptors and want to equip my aspiring champions with combimeltas
Hey /wip/ I am currently wondering if a vortex shaker or a nail polish shaker is a good investment to speed up the time of paint miniatures by having the paint mixed up properly. Admittedly the above are not my first option, because I do have Lego technic pieces laying around, and I might try my hand at a hand cranked paint shaker such as this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKmiKw9KAgI
>>76946807It looks like you hot-glued the base.
>>76940713I used to use lava beads as agitators for my AP paints but ended up just buying a pack of of the AP ball bearings since they're heavier. I have pretty much the entire range of AP paints and have plenty of agitators left over. Never bothered using them for the washes, just give them a good shake otherwise they can be a bit glossy.Personally I only use black primer since I generally always do zenithal for all of my undercoats. The cost of GW primer cans is retarded so I'd just stick with either a can of rustoleum/krylon black/grey primer or just use a brush on primer.
>>76937237You can use a heatgun on trashbags pieces for a nice organic texture you can then use on some greenstuff
>>76949115God gave you hands, arms and opp osable thumbs for a reason anon
>>76948999After fully painting them? Yeah that's autism. Just fix it in the next project.
Farseer I finished a little bit ago. I liked painting it, don't get me wrong, but man theres just something so off about it. It was my first try at nmm and besides the bangles located on the back I really did not like how it turned out. I also really didn't get the gems right at all, and the shade of red I picked for that line in the inner robe is really hurting my eyes to look at now that I see it. This is the year-long progress report of from when I got back into 40k and decided to actually paint/take it seriously, so not sure if this is progress that is good or not. Regardless, I still had fun with it, really would like to hear critique from you guys.
>>76949318I did this freehand hand of morai heg also. First time making like an actual emblem with free hand and it was pretty simple so it didn't turn out so bad. I wish it looked more thin/uniform but live and learn.
>>76939629I own one, Gopher is the brand, and use it for primer and the main base color (and learning basics of airbrushing in the same time) and I'm perfectly happy with it. It's really not great, but it does what I need it to do so... And I'm a brushfag, and don't/won't use it for anything else. If you plan to go full airbrushing, it won't do I think, but I'd say it's so inexpensive it can be a good way to take your first step in airbrushing, since you'll prefere doing the newbs mistake or change your mind with a 30$ set like this. Plus once you get real stuff, you'll still be able to use this cheap airbrush for the heavy/dirty/risky work (varnish for instance).
Love pic related heads, but the price is kinda steep. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/aurel-1Do you guys know where I can find nice bare heads like these for cheaper? All the shops I find are weird sci-fi for SM/IG proxy and often kinda ugly.
>>76944918Nice.Could maybe push the red a little higher on the non-Reichart models.Shai'hulud when?
>>76949865I don't know how prices compare, but puppetswar have plenty to choose from.
>>76949318I think it's the robe. The way it's painted makes it look like it's made of some really thick material. Also yes I think perhaps your choice of red and blue tones isn't the best pairing
>>76949865pretty sure these are free on thingiverse. So you could find a local place to print them for you.
Fuck you, mould line. Must have missed it during assembly somehow. My last 3 Infinity projects are plagued by this shit, this is really awful.
Alright anons, time to say goodbye. I've got the coof so it's all over for me. It was fun hosting secret santa, 2020 was a shit show but it went about as smoothly as could be expected. All the grinched should now have a replacement gift on the way. Be patient we have more lock downs. Except Russia anon because your postal service is retarded beyond all rational ability to navigate it. Your match is trying his best.I didn't use a grinch list and had minimal problems and with covid messing up post I don't think it's fair to put people in a naughty list when many tried their best. Tips for future SantasHave a plan for how you're going to match people going in. I found groups of twenty five and then matching those up as their own bubble worked well. Keep a matched document as email isn't reliable to check (fuck cockli). If you plan to host it expect a lot of whining anons to repeatedly email you over nothing and people to cry grinched the day after shipping day.The trolling is funny, don't have a thin skin, it's 4chan.European addresses with funny characters are annoying since google forms doesn't archive them correctly, you have to manually fix it. When you check those names are right expect to see a bunch of freaks and weirdos. Make anons give full name and address, if you don't you have to ask for them or people can't ship in some locations.Fuck coomers. Good luck to whoever hosts next year. I'm looking forward to taking part.
>>76950658Glad you’re not doing it next year. Good riddance!
>>76950658Thanks for hosting

I want to create custom objective markers. What kind of base should I use? 50mm?
>>76951141The rulebook "recommends" 40mm. 50mm would likely be fine but I like to observe the guidance. That's what GW's own objective set they sell are on.
>>76938714>>76938778Oh shit glad I had no idea you had to thin mr surfacer. I was using their canned primers for a while and just ordered pic related to use in my airbrush instead of the can. It'll be arriving soon so you saved me some hassle. Should I use normal mr color thinner or the self leveling thinner? I have both on hand.
>>76950658Thanks Gobbo and get well, even though I'll never understand your unrelenting hate for coomers.
>>76949115NOOO, THIS SHAKER (in your image) IS SHIT, I've been bought two of them and they're both / doubly useless
>>76945263What's this? a bones mini made of proper plastic and not car wheel rubber?
>>76951228Over sexualization ruins everything it touches. If you're a fan of old fantasy stories like the hobbit, there's no place for the hyper sexual content. Bilbo's story isn't improved by coomers wanting tits on a troll or female gandalf in a mini skirt and crotchless panties. Video games and pornography have killed the soul of miniature design. It's low brow and unimaginative from an industry which used to thrive on small time artists able to express their cool ideas in pewter. Now it's mass produced porn and warcraft made from cheap crap plastic for mass consumption.
>>76951422Coomers have been part of fantasy since the earliest days. Renaissance art was the smut of the day for wealthy patrons.
>>76949115I’ve been pleased with my vortex. Pricey but worth saving some headaches and time.

>>76952537>Dragon's CrownLiterally a love letter to 70s-80s western fantasy novel cover art and PnP books. You'd have a point with a lot of other RPGs, like I'm not gonna die on the hill that is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but Dragon's Crown is honest homage.

>>76952803The fact that you actually bought a stadia is the grossest thing about the pic.
>>76950868ok esl anon
>>76951194I always go for levelling thinner personally, better safe than sorry in general with paint but for a surfacer it's especially useful due to the slightly grittier nature of it. Just be aware that you really do just need to leave it to do its thing, don't go painting over it 50 seconds later and then act surprised when it starts to go wrong

>>76952988Speaking of coom...
>>76953547you gotta find a way to prime her without getting that texture. the skin looks like sandpaper
>>76953617I have no idea what I am doing wrong since I'm using an Airbrush primer. The tiddy is a misprint and shitty greenstuff tho.Any tips on how to use the primer? Already tried even using warm water on the bottle. Shake it like crazy AND put it in my vortex mixer too... No else what else I could be doing wrong.
>>76953722Those techniques are for aerosol priming, lol. Are you thinning your primer?
>>76953747"No thinning necessary" >the labelNot sure if I'm being autistic tho.
>>76953813Depending on your nozzle size you still might want to add thinner or flow improver. Something like a .20mm nozzle might still clog, sputter, etc. despite what the label tells you. Just give or a go on some sprue or something and see where it gets you.
>>76953722Careful with taking pics of old meds bottles my texan friend.
>>76953722I use that same primer, you don't need to thin it. The primer isn't the issue and you shouldn't need to warm the bottle or use a vortex shaker, it's pretty homogenized already. The only exception for thinning is if you're using their white primer but even then if thinning was the only issue it wouldn't give you nearly that much texture. Are you airbrushing it? If so your PSI is probably way too low and/or you're holding it the mini too far from the airbrush so it dries in mid air and you get that texturing. Possible the mini itself was already textured in which case you can take some high grit sandpaper to the bad areas. If you're using your brush to apply it you also don't need to thin it, just apply a single coat like you would a basecoat. Remember it's just supposed to stick to the mini so a fully "thick" opaque layer isn't necessary. Less is more with most primers.
>>76953858RIP. I guess you guys can call my pharmacy. Prolly should paint em all over before anything that matters gets out.
Finished my first ever shot at making a game board, basically work of few days, sand on layer of plaster, some glue on gaps to make taller bits and plants, then primed brown with car primer and airbrushed on some variaty. Looks a bit redish in person but oh well, I guess it's mars surface.
>>76953883I'm generally using around 25 psi. Might be that I'm too far though... Will try doing it from closer next time!
>>76953955Up it to 35-40. Good luck!
I want to kitbash/paint a Doomguy mini. Are there any specific 40k/whatever sets that would be good for this?
Got some minis for the vats from an online auction today. Would've gotten 4 keisotsu, but a guy, whose logic I cannot comprehend, paid what is basically a full price for them.
>>76953547Get some warm water, put primer cans in warm water for 15, replace water with warm water again, shake cans, and wait another 10. Use now slightly warmed cans, less speckling.
>>76952537>there's a difference between a naked woman staring at the moon in a well done painting and dragons crown.Because Dragon's Crown doesn't have full nudity? I get the game's a little loud visually and I'd prefer the characters to have just a tad more realistic proportions but you're comparing oversized tits to disease-spreading gangbangs.
>>76954171Check out anvil miniatures for torsos and limbs. Its what I used, the jungle arms and light armour torsos. Then I used pig iron heads pic related. I was going for a doom 2 look.

Some important info:1. If paint stays forever tacky ita because you primed a pvc mini with a spray can. The driving gas in cans will react with pvc and fuck the mini completely. This doesnt happen with all pvc variants, but reaper bones is the most known one. This is the reason they say "you dont need to prime them". They are just covering their legal ass, they need primer justlike every other material used to make minis. But if they said hey you need an airbrush, the whole tarket market of kids and amateurs would be alienates. Its amazing that nobody called them out on this.2. Vallejo and stynylrez airbrush primers are used by top tier pros in display painting, as well as by wargamera all ober the world. If they dont work for you you fucked up. Stop posting gunpla weeb garbage go to /toy/ and dont come back3. Mak is cool but op is pretty rude and hasnt mastered basic painting technique (watch him post that crappy mak pilot with a red gloss helmet as if its an argument for anything but his amateurness)4. If you refer to colors by gw paint names and talk about "paint recipes" you are still a beginner
>>76955933>The driving gas in cans will react with pvc and fuck the mini completelythis is why you SWIRL the can and NEVER SHAKE IThttps://youtu.be/b_CHbeUMEEo?t=99
>>76949865While the price is a bit of a turnoff, I picked some up myself a while back, and I really liked them. If you can stomach the cost (and can't get them anywhere else), I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I used some acetone to strip the paint off some old models & (predictably) it's now all black with melted paint, & has lumps of plastic at the bottom (don't worry, the models were metal, I just chucked them in with the old bases attached to see what would happen). I assume I can reuse the acetone to some extent, although the plastic probably hasn't helped. Is there a known process for cleaning/filtering it to remove as much paint/plastic gunk as possible, to extend its use?
>>76936389I've only ever done the Vince Venturella method of marble bases for HQ units but that takes a while. You guys think this would work for an army? He kind of lays it on heavy in the example but I think that could be fixed by just removing more painthttps://youtu.be/5s-SI212_sk
>>76955196Yeah they are not too bad

Anyone here try or use oil paints on minis? 3 weeks and the paint stil hasl not dried which I guess is good since I haven't been into painting much lately and I can literally continue as if I had just started.
What do I do first, oldhammer or infinity? Man they are both gonna be so enjoyable!
>>76958666do that cute little bot first!
>>76958557>3 weeksYeah nah, that's fucked. Oil paint should dry within 1-2 days max
>>76954713Shut up redguard
>>76958557>>76958730Well, oil on canvas can take that long for sure, but I hope you used some thinner. The thinner will evaporate much quicker than the linseed oil hardens. You can also mix in some quick drying agent into the paint and it will dry in like 10 hours.
>>76936389>not fireball/racoonyou make me sick
>>76958557>>76958730Depends on the oil, although 3 weeks seems excessive for miniature painting.

>>76959009You should decide on the chapter before you paint the guy.

>>76959041not even the guy but its deathwatch so the chapter doesnt really matter
>>76950658>Fuck coomersAbsolutely based
>>76951422I think it's fine when there's a purpose or reason to it. Problem is like a sex scene in a film, 99% of the time it's only there for coomers to coom

>>76955933What's your opinion on tamiya paints?
>>76959308Actually pretty doable
>>76959203Yes they have, but only in the 20th century has cooming become degenerate, forced into EVERYTHING, where it doesn't belong. And if you raise one objection? "Prude!" "Virgin!" Etc.

>>76959246I am trying to kitbash a bfg from hassle free mini parts. If I ever finish it I will post. But yes...someone needs to make one
>>76958557Taking a long time to dry is the entire point of oil paints. It's how the famous artists were able to spend and entire year working on a painting and not have it end up as thick as Hal's from malcolm in the middle.
>>76959343Or maybe it's alright to have your preferences while others have their own. I don't know about you, but I have two hands. I can hold both cool shit, and coom at the same time.
Huh, I expected better quality paintjobs for all the gatekeeping and smugness that goes on here.
>>76959359I was trying to create come up with sone homebrewed rules for 40k, but I'm not sure how powerful the BFG should be. Should it be able to one shot carnifexes and GUO as if they were mancubi?
Tried contrast paints on some spruesI can sort of tell what I did wrong and ways to prevent pooling but I'm not sure howpls help
>>76959379That was an amazing episode, especially when it collapsed at the end. Thanks for membering me.
>>76959550Contrast paints work best on smaller bumpy / non-flat surfaces. That way they sink into the recesses rather than pool up in an uncontrollable way. Best way to test in on an actual miniature.
>>76958557The longest I've had anything dry was titanium white thinned with linseed, and that was 4-5 days.
>>76959410Yeah its alright, but like I said, when its forced into everything and ruins the things I like...I am allowed to protest.
>>76959550Looks like Flesh Tearer's Red which is a very very intense contrast paint. Seems to be working as intended, but note that most contrast doesn't work well over large flat surfaces like armor plates and those sprues. It's much better suited to organic surfaces with fine detail.
>>76959634That's fair. We all get to be mad. Some of us all the time.
>>76959662Thank you. I am quite the mad lad myself, it is true.
>>76959496It would need some kind of rule to represent the ray tracing too if you go with the Doom95/doom 2 bfg. Be easier to first slot it in somewhere between existing weapons and work it out from there. Probably at least more powerful than a lascannon.
>>76959776Ray tracing would be easy. >every unit within 6" of the target suffers d3 mortal wouldOr something to that effect.
>>76959321Laquer is unsuitable for mini painting due to the need for respirators and thinners. Its advantage when painting articulated toys, like gundams is that it does not scratch off so easily when the parts move against each other. For acrylic paints I am sure they are fine but there are many good acrylic paint brands so I never felt the need to import something from the other side of the world. Dont be loyal to any brand, its an artificial limitation you put on yourself for no reason
>>76955933interesting.I never knew that about the PVC minis, but I will say that a matte varnish usually takes the tackiness away
>>76959619>>76959641but how do you do it for flat armor? All the gw examples use primaries
Should I do washes before or after highlighting?
>>76960316Fast and even strokes across the whole flat surface and make sure not to overload your brush with too much paint or you’ll get the pooling effect.

>>76960259>Dont be loyal to any brandI'm not. I'm asking because my local store sells Citadel and tamiya, so if tamiya is any good it's much easier to get ahold of than vallejo or anything else online.
>>76961157I use pre-mixed grout. It's generally got a texture to it but you can also choose to smooth it out with some work.
>>76961327Maybe I'm retarded but I haven't had a great experience with grout. Granted, I don't think it was pre-mixed, it was the dry powder that I added water to but it dried kinda smooth and shed lots of dust. What I like with that mire I posted is that loam-y color and structure. Aerated and clumpy looking.Vallejo's earth texture / mud products seemed interesting, I don't know if this application of the russian mud is well representative of the results. It isn't quite on the mark but in the ballpark. Definitely more on the mud side, something to be used in combination maybe rather than replace.
