I could see them BSing an acolyte raised up after her skywalking job went south some how
>>
>>67196952
That wouldn't help, Chiss lose what little Force sensitivity they have by adulthood. And their Force powers are limited almost solely to precognition, not telekinesis or whathaveyou, so their efficacy with a lightsaber would be no better than Han Solo or Sabine.
>>
>>67196986
i thought that the implication was sky walkers are used solely for their ability to precog hyperspace routes so thats the only ability that gets any reflex to it, and then their complete lack of training otherwise has them gradual lylose the ability to hear the force like they could at a young age.
>>
>>67197073
I doubt it. Besides, the chances of some Chiss bitch gaining command of Separatist armies in the Clone Wars? Pretty astronomical in either continuity. The Chiss Ascendancy was never known for getting that involved in Galactic Politics
>>
>>67197073
I feel there is this is tying to some big early events in the history of Force-Users. We have had the original planet of the Jedi sect, an important ancient world to the Jedi, the home of the Sith, the origins of the midichlorians, Mortis, time/space travel through the Force via an alternate dimension, ancient temples and murals. And now more UR stuff about the Force. Everything from either Lucas or Filoni’s scripts or concepts.
It feels like Lucas and his ideological successor were leading up to something.
>>
>>67197157
That Chiss stuff was from Filoni?
>>

>>
>>67197219
The Hutts' vast arrangement of slaves and vassals got Wendig'd, and I don't think NuLucasfilm cares beyond that. It's not like Rotta's a skinny white British brunette.
>>
>>67197246
It is, Rebels and Zahn's Thrawn novels (the third one is set to release in a couple weeks) are easily the best content of the entire new canon, and arguably better than a lot of the old
>>
how is Force Lightning derived if the Force is a conduit from living things and life?
>>
>>67197219
peeps on Tatooine used the vacancy from the Hutts to clamp down on their own territory so it wouldn't caught up in Hutt space politics and Gangster shenanigans
wha for what the means for Rotta is unknown, though if i remember the old canon Jabba's son was something of a softie who used Tatooine as a vacation spot over a seat of power
>>
>>67196986
After that one Mandalorian guy nearly defeated Darth Maul in a sword fight in the Clone Wars cartoon, and fucking Finn managed to wound Kylo Ren during their fight, I'm not sure that being force sensitive is still all that important to using a light saber.

Of course there is. If you invent a magical power, and tie that power to something physical in the universe, then it is beholden to certain rules.
In KoToR, everything is explained by being tied to some life force. Yet Force Lightning is some benign power that flows through your fingertips. How?

i mean there were also plenty of dudes in Legends used a saber with no force sensitivity. the big trick to it is that the blade has no weight behind it making it hard to track with out the Force's increase in personal spacial awareness. that said you can, get over it, arguably it was the whole reason Sabine trained with Kana in Rebels, to overcome that weakness.
that said the addition of the necessity of the Force to construct it, and Kyber Crystals attunement to the force and its user make sabers more user specific
i wtill think there'll be a surprise "Finn has the force" moment in IX

It preserves the I am your father reveal, humanizes Anakin somewhat to make his redemption more believable, and makes it so Sheev isn't instantly known to be the big bad when watching the PT. This. I hated that the SWTOR Empire was so Palpatine Empire-esque. A lot of the Empire's stuff was spun off of the Republic, which is why Revan's Empire also made sense, it was mostly using stolen Republic gear from the Mandalorian Wars. Meanwhile an actual Sith army aesthetic should be more Ancient Egypt like, like something you'd see on Korriban.

You really shouldn't. Better to do either release or 4-5-1-2-3-6. Chronological is what you want to do on repeat showings, not a first time.

>It would be a reboot but staring the new characters, a fresh continuity sandbox with new cast
It could work, but they would need a fresh change behind the camera as well as in front of it. Too many of the people behind it are responsible for what led to this point.

Now, with this clearly directive from on high push saying "it's ok to hate tlj; the reaction to it was understandable" when the same people were screaming every stripe of "toxic fanbase, '-ist,' '-ism'" under the sun to handwave the reaction to it, it shows they don't care about the content, because they're just trying to snow everyone to get people in the seats for ros.

you guys know that they ARE making non Skywalker based movie right?
>>
Okay, I know this is tangential, but why is everyone crowing that Mausland is proof that the TLJ / Solo backlash ((((Resistance)))) is right? It's a definitional Reverse Disney, people! People think Space Mountain is f'n packed, so they go to other rides, so there's no line at Space Mountain. This is at whole-park scale -- people assume Galaxy's Edge is gonna be banañas busy and that everyone that doesn't want to put up with that will spill over to the main park, so they're holding off on going period, so it's not that busy.

Christ, I think Rian needs a cockpunch, but this is just anti-fanboy confirmation bias.
>>
>>67198390
can you fucking imagine the crew call out for that?
"Disney is looking for Writers, Directors and Crew for a New Star Wars film after is recent acquisition of its franchise! oh but we aren't going to use any of the iconic character, locations, events, or history that this historic franchise has used before so new ideas only!"
its farcical, from a creative stand point, from a money making stand point, from any stand point.
ya'll know you can not like something right? that you can not like something and you dont have to make up or find reason why its personally offensive to you and your sensibilities? ya'll are like tumblr trying to justify hating things when its comes to new star wars i swear

considering that when it opened it was packed and getting rave reveiws from the people who do that kind of thing makes it all the more ridiculous.
ive also heard that they got so swamped so early that the supplies are running low as well, things like any kyber crystal that isnt red or blue, and lots of droid parts.
it seems like the big D figured that they could hold over til the Wold opening and underestimated demand
>>
>>67198609
Yeah it's kind if obnoxious, I've settled down, galaxies edge looks neat but I'm waiting for the other ride to be open before I spend my money. I'm also wanting to have the money to get all my shit in one go because I dont go to Disneyland casually, and as of now I'm adding "waiting for the QC issue with lightsabers" to my list of reasons for holding off
>>
>>67198542
>you guys know that they ARE making non Skywalker based movie right?
You do know the posts you quoted are about a reboot sequel trilogy, right?
>>
>>67198653
wait is there a QC issue with Saber, or are you just expecting one? because from what ive seen they tend to work fine and seen sturdy, at least sturdy enough that a youtuber i follow couldn't even get hers apart to change the crystal
>>
>>67198609
The crowds being light at Disneyland after Galaxy's Edge is down to self-sabotage that Disney Parks always manages to engage in when doing a major expansion or grand opening of any kind. They work up huge media hype, black out season passes, put out projections that opening numbers will be huge. And then nobody shows up because they have both made it sound like it will be a nightmare, and at the same time made it less convenient for people to show up.

Similar boat. I'll be hitting die Mauswelt after the full-immersive LARP hotel goes live. I'm using now to 2021, maybe 2022 to stack paper and I'll fuck it all up in one go. All the rides are live, lightsabers hopefully live longer than a few weeks and have the ability to change batteries, I get to walk around with Sith contacts in while clutching a holocron and cackling madly, scaring children. It would be the perfect vacation if it wasn't Florida.

I'm STILL trying to wrap my brain around how the Resistance ride is supposed to simulate live blaster fire. What combination of effects even gets in the neighborhood?!
>>
>>67198703
A lot of reports of kyber crystals not seating correctly to trigger activation, fast burnout, no way to change the battery, glitchy behavior even when it's never been used to duel, random sound effect activation while laying still, etc.

EXACTLY. THAT's the Reverse Disney, textbook. Perception is that [X] will be overwhelmed, so no one wants to deal with it, so no one goes, so it's not busy. All their flagship attractions oscillate between this and a four hour wait.

Then the emperor has already won.
Companies fail, even the ones thought "too big." Their overconfidence is their weakness.

If empires put together by smarter people with more wisdom than these cushy elitists can fall, a bunch of so called "empires." Ones that are only so because they are standing on top of a bunch of fiat currency that is one crash away from becoming worth less than the paper it's printed on. Which will result in their whole house of cards come crashing down.

The more they spend trying to prop up their failed projects, the quicker they hasten their demise. Or, to put it another way: the more they tighten their grip, the more will slip through their fingers.

You know what I've realized?

I've come to realize, all they really needed to do was a victory lap. Just brief scenes showing everyone from the OT had satisfying endings. Then absolutely no-one would complain about the new characters. I mean, it's not even hard to write them off.

> Luke founded a Jedi academy, then - one day - he handed over his lightsaber to his top student and went off on a journey. Everyone knew he wasn't coming back.
> Han and Leia retired. Han's done with the life, but he's asked his old buddy Chewbacca to accompany the heroes of the new trilogy. His son or daughter has mostly taken up the mantle.
> The droids are basically immortal.

Bam, done. Torch passed, everyone's happy ending established with room for cameos, we can do the new guys now. THAT'S ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO.
>>
>>67200240
The problem is that if you did this, no-one would watch the new trilogy beyond VII. Who would give a shit?
>>
>>67200279
Well if you write compelling characters and an interesting plot that isn't just a shitty version of the Empire vs Rebels people would.

That bugged me about Outbound Flight (which honestly I was kind of disappointed by, I expected better from Zahn after just finishing the Thrawn trilogy), how is it that nobody ever complained about what a complete and utter crackpot C'baoth is? They could barely tolerate Qui-Gon, and he wasn't a patch C'baoth when it came to fuckheadery.

And they let him teach padawans, as well, more than once. Did that never backfire on them, that they were letting a Jedi fundamentalist spread his teachings around?

I have other complaints w/regard to that story too. Like how the entire Outbound Flight thing is built up to be really awesome, y'know, a one-of-a-kind exploration mission to explore the unknown regions and then go beyond the galaxy's edge, being lead and in a large part crewed by Jedi. And then what happens, it gets blown up and all the jedi killed in a single engagement before it ever gets anywhere near the galactic edge. Even if it *was* by Thrawn.

There's also how the entire first half of the book, all the business with- god, it was so boring I've forgotten most of it now- what was it, mining rights, that didn't really feel necessary, the story could have started after that had all finished and had time for more interesting stuff. Anakin and Obi-Wan are there for their contractually obliged appearance and then leave again without having any impact on the plot whatsoever. The character of Thrawn's brother is pretty much entirely wasted, the only thing he really seems to do is help crash the Outbound Flight at the end, and he doesn't really seem to have a personality of his own when it would have been a good opportunity for a "good" counterpart to Thrawn himself. I can't even remember if Thrawn is at all bothered by his brother's death, or even if he's shown reacting to it.

The only good bit was where Thrawn curb-stomps the trade federation's goons, but that gets no points because it's always fun to see Nemodians getting brought down a peg or ten.

as always a book will have potential vs what we actually get

on a similar note my one wet dream of a book/series/roleplay scenario is set in the height of the Empire, an imperial taskforce of maybe two star destroyers, a few victory class and several support ships is tasked with exploring the unknown regions, like outbound flight and star trek but with intent to claim and conquer
we get the day to day adventures of the crew as they battle fringe pirate groups and meet new planets and species to claim in the name of the galactic empire

an offshoot of this would be the Thrawn's unabridged adventures in the unknown regions

Isn't that pretty much exactly what they did with Thrawn? And so that was why he was absent from most of the GCW?

it is but I as far as I know we don't have a series or book or in a dream world a series of books about his star trekking adventures, and it would make for a great campaign

you have to be some sort of retard to waifu phasma.

all the other waifus here have something worth waifu'ing.
asajj was a villain but her comic gave her a redeeming aspect when she helped those kids. bariss was fundamentally correct in what she said, she just got hyped up on dark side and went crazy and became a terrorist, she could theoretically come back to the light. evaan is a background character but she is hot and does seem to be a good person. tn3465 is a background character but she was cute and seemed like a decent person. ahsoka is a mary sue but she's actually quite popular waifu. etc.

but phasma has no redeeming qualities. she's a bitch, she's a backstabber (literally as well as figuratively), she's selfish, self serving, she's cowardly, she's a murderer and not even for good reasons, her entire life and career is a lie, etc. She's a piece of shit.

Its been a while since I read it, the story itself is kind of a barely held together, linear progression that has some long stretches of waffling, who gives a fuck and other page fillers. But, I really did like the characters overall and they're fairly well thought out and presented if not overly given a lot of dimensions to them.
Sort of a run of the mill you'd expect out of the pulp franchise, if you went in with slightly higher expectations... you could well be disappointed :)

>>
>>67212025
When were they referenced to be Krennic's pet project?
>>
>>67212025
No, they were, as I understand it, specifically commissioned to guard the members of the Tarkin initiative, that's why Thrawn had a couple of squads and so did Krennic. After Scarif, of course, the project was completed, so I imagine that if there were any left they were probably relegated to special forces or intelligence roles.

>on a similar note my one wet dream of a book/series/roleplay scenario is set in the height of the Empire, an imperial taskforce of maybe two star destroyers, a few victory class and several support ships is tasked with exploring the unknown regions, like outbound flight and star trek but with intent to claim and conquer we get the day to day adventures of the crew as they battle fringe pirate groups and meet new planets and species to claim in the name of the galactic empire
This has been my dream for a long time too, and the first Thrawn book kicked it into gear again by giving a good idea of what an Imperial Task Force built around a Star Destroyer would look like.

Speaking of Scarif, would the Emperor have been pissed at Tarkin for destroying a major Imperial facility with the Death Star and killing countless thousands of troops and officers basically just to kill his rival?

If the Rebels had failed at Yavin, would Tarkin have been fucked regardless after that?
>>
>>67213068
Tarkin is the second most powerful person in the Empire tied with Vader, and Sheev doesn't care anywhere near enough about peons as long as he gets results. It's not like his reputation could get any worse after blowing up Alderaan.
>>
>>67212878
>Mnggal-Mnggal
Oh gawd, bringing that back would be horrifying. A part of me hopes they don't though, if only because if THAT was the thing in the unknown region Palpatine saw and wanted to prepare us against, I'd (almost) support the bastard.
>>
>>67213068
No, as far as committing the act, which was less to just dab on Krennic and more to try and keep the schematics from being transmitted.
Would probably get a pretty good tongue-lashing if the Rebellion failed at Yavin for even giving them a chance to fuck over the Death Star but no real demotion or anything, and would have gotten deep-fried if he actually ran during Yavin and it kersploded.
>>
>>67213068
The Emperor was probably just pissed that he failed to stop the Rebels getting the Death Star plans doing so, really.
>>
>>67213068
If the Rebs failed at Yavin, there'd be no way for the Emperor to know that they had gotten the Death Star plans and found its weakness, so Tarkin would have a pretty good basis for claiming that blowing up the facility on Scarif successfully prevented them from getting that data.
>>
>>67213192
They know the plans got transmitted, though. That's the whole reason they tailed the Tantive.

Sorta-kinda, you can get the vector easily enough for a single jump if there's not much jamming and/or you have line of sight. There's also some slight degree of a wake apparently so you have a partial chance of knowing if you overshot their dropout point but it's usually a real bitch to do and you need to be basically jumping immediately on their tail because the wake vanishes fast.

That's just one vector though, at that point you have to basically guess which systems they went to, or if they outright stopped, turned 180 and backtracked or anything else. USUALLY people don't do that but it depends on a few things. The computer in TLJ just somehow was smart enough to always make that guess.

The Force can also help.
>>
>>67213449
I don't know what the explanation for it was in legends, but in nucanon the ship's engines and hyperdrive was being serviced before/during Scarif, and so when they had to flee they left a trail of all kinds of exotic particles and hypermatter behind them that the imperials could follow.
>>
>>67213548
Not to mention they could take a second jump before you get there usually, but the Tantive's hyperdrive was screwed after the jump and they didn't even make it all the way to Tatooine, needing to use Sublight to get the rest of the way, which gave the Star Destroyer PLENTY of time.

It's there to keep the bad shit in.
>>

You'd think they would have locked Abeloth up in the unknown regions instead of in the relatively more peaceful side of the galaxy.

I have a headcanon that force-sensitive travellers have horrible night terrors when doing the kessel run, nearly all featuring a woman cloaked in shadow standing over them, only for them to wake up just as she leans forwards enough for them to see her horribly wide smile that doesn't quite seem to fit in her head.

Was working on a sapient yet very beastly race, the idea is that the republic and CIS initially just want the world as part of a hyperspace route, assuming the life was not intelligent, only for some to crash on world, they are primative and tribalistic and it's now between the two to try and get these warriors on their side, who should be more likely to succeed, I'm unsure if any named characters should be planetside. Not Grievous, hes the guy you send after diplomacy fails, this will have an effect on what happens after the clone wars too. I'm asking to know just how against the party the odds should be

Something like the space-wraith or star weirds could be an option for not going up against a full blown demigod kind of opponent.
Plus they might just like the players space ship and decide to haunt it for a while, hoping they can crack through the willpower nut to get enough for possession.

Mind you, I'm forbidden from running horror anything. Its just one of the few things with this group that was apparently a bit too much.
>>
>>67214626
I like that headcanon, although honestly Abeloth is my guilty pleasure, and I still think there's some missed potential with her.

And yeah, that would have been smarter. But The Father either didn't want to fight her or possibly wasn't sure he'd actually win, so they built the prison around where she was instead of trying to relocate her. There were certainly alternatives, but honestly their methods weren't that shit.

Sort of have to work on a bit of a basic culture, society and history to figure out just what they like/don't like and I guess they're sort like a Rancor in terms of being able to figure out enough about what constitutes friend, foe and lunch.
Big primates, weird repto-mammals and all manner of predatory, apex predators might fall into that category

>Mind you, I'm forbidden from running horror anything. Its just one of the few things with this group that was apparently a bit too much.
Big wussies. Horror is supposed to scare you, you shouldn't dislike something for doing its job.

I've wondered for the longest time how to include starweirds in something. I toyed with an idea for them full-on invading the ST-era galaxy after the Hosnian cataclysm (supposedly people could see Starkiller's beam because it ripped a hole into hyperspace, I figured that'd be like kicking the top off an anthill for the starweirds), but I couldn't really decide where to go with it beyond the premise.

>>67214758
>I like that headcanon, although honestly Abeloth is my guilty pleasure, and I still think there's some missed potential with her.
I agree, in principle the idea of trying to adapt a cosmic horror story into star wars does sound very interesting, but I don't know if they did a very good job of it (never read legacy of the force, and I've never heard particularly good things about it anyway).

>>67214819
Oh please. She got pwned by Snoke, a fifth-rate darkside sorcerer. Wouldn't have a hope against Abeloth.
>>
>>67214805
I place them on par with cavemen. Able to learn more, perfectly capable of what a typical sapient is, simply new to this whole civilization thing, I'm imagining as predators they'd struggle with agriculture at least for a while, and ranged combat would be quite novel for them, but as raw powerful and intelligent pack hunters potentially capable of listening to orders I'd certainly not mind having them in my military as a battle force. Especially if it keeps the enemy from having them. I could see them relating to legends Grievous backstory. If he bothered trying to give it to them. If hes feeling even close to that fourth coming he might delegate the task to a droid who could sanitize it. If obi-wan is there it's no contest, They are joining the republic, So to keep suspense I'd suggest Quinlin Vos.

On their own I see them using mounted beasts. Axes, and maybe some manner of throwing weapon, as a modernized force I'd give them predator style tracking guns and light armor. Equip with vibroblades to wear over natural claws.

Maybe something like a herglic, but coming from a killer whale type species that has really good instincts in their pod, a rudimentary language, decent memory and ability to learn.
Some of the cetacean creatures are also social enough to just get along most of the time as well
>>
>>67214784
If you wanted to work her into canon in the same spot, sure. You could do some fun things there.

>>67214859
was Fate of the Jedi, not Legacy, but I getcha, and honestly while I like the first book it does start petering off later and take some stupid directions, although I guess the stupid stuff had already begun with Chief of State Daala (seriously? Although she did have a nice discussion with Luke).

And yeah, as far as cosmic horrors go Abeloth doesn't really fit the mould very well, she's alright before you know anything about her and you just have the vague hints of a presence and the sudden onset psychosis of some force-sensitives, but that set-up just gets trashed.
>>
>>67214859

No, he's a huge deal, Sheev could feel his presence from Coruscant, he's the author of all the ST era's pain. But at the same time he's not a huge deal because he's not directly connected to Rey.
But really, Abeloth would be no problem once Rey Feels The Force.
>>
>>67214998
Was taking from the chimera posted with the pitch as the basis of the form so very much a reptomammal, that said having the mammal part being more of an orca would add a unique touch and pattern well over the creature, ability wise they have camouflage and echo location (which both go into their language. You need a protocol droid to mediate that dialogue) possible the ability to weaponize the echolocation like real life orcas as a stunning weapon. I see them being matriarchal as well.

There's been a fair bit of study on large predatory whales and some of the meaner, bigger dolphins so there's sort of a springboard to go off when it comes to behaviour and their extended family pods
I think something like the Orca or at least a similar whale might be kind of interesting, rather than just another 'beastman' kind of concept which has been done to death.

Assuming Snoke ever *was* what Sheev's observatories were picking up. After all, it's not like there's a planet in the Unknown Regions that was the birthworld of the single-greatest darkside civilisation to ever exist, one which has remained on practically every map to come out of the ST material despite not seeming all that relevant to the present galaxy.

Yet.

Its a little like an ocean going wolf pack, but unlike dog behaviour they don't really beat each other up or go out of their way to bully other members of their species, hang around in pods of about a dozen led by a matriarch which is similar to elephants. They do most of the teaching and discipline of younger members and there's a fair percentage that mostly just hang around the family until they meet another pod, form a pod of their own and go off to their own hunting grounds and territories.

Dolphins are very similar in some ways to Orca's as they're along the same evolutionary branch and probably better documented. But compared to Orca's they're a bit more feral I guess in that they'll beat the shit out of each other and all manner of weird stuff.
