Is there any reason to improve a players expected playing time outside contract negotiations? Also did they do something weird with wages in fm23? My players are asking insane wages from me, like double what I paid at this point of my save in fm21 and I can barely pay 15 players, so I run into huge injury issues (because for some reason this season I'm also constantly getting long injuries)

>/trb/ backHallelujah. Current save has been a rollercoaster. Still on FM20 cos fuck Milesberg. Do my usual holiday to December and see Palace job is available. They are bottom of the league with 1 win and 2 draws all season. Take the job, get them to 15th by the end of the season and get to the FA cup semi final before being knocked out by Yanited. Liverpool who lead the league until the final bottle it to 9th place Yanited and City win the league. Ole wins the FA cup and is sacked immediately after for Ancelotti. Southampton, Villa and Newcastle are all relegated. Bring in Ings, Rugaini, Dani Martin, Morgan Sanson, Watkins and Eze for 50mil. 2nd season is a disaster. Form is nonexistent and I walk after Eze pulls a 5.5 against Burnley. Forest immediately hired me and Ive taken them from 18th in the championship to 5th and its only October 2020. Liking this Forest side and Joao Carvalho has been unplayable.

>playing fm >2017Why? Miles perfected FM in 2016 when he released FM2017, there is literally no point buying the new addition unless you are too autistic to play with outdated swauds. It's similair to how FIFA perfected their model in 2018 when they released FIFA 19, and then their dev team got bored and then eventually made the abomination that is FIFA 23. Just stick with the game the works. I don't understand why footy games can't just do what every other genre does: release DLC if you want updates (ie you could buy a DLC to update squads and starting year if you want). If Cities Skylines can do it and still rake in a shit tonne of money, sureley FM/FIFA would be able to do the same?

What a name
So, I'm in the year 2455 on my save. I'm not playing, just enjoying the results. I have lots of custom tournaments set up. Here's what's going on:- Man City and Chelsea have been out of the Premier League for most of the last 430 years. Liverpool, Man U and Forest Gate (a custom team) have been champs over the last few decades. Barnsley are the most winningest team with 114 Premier League wins.- LOSC and PSG have been the top teams of France as of late. - Bayern, Hertha and one of my custom teams have been the top dogs of Germany. Bayern has won the Bundesliga 172 times.- Almeria have been the kings of Spain, winning 301 La Laga titles over this span. Despite that, they still play in a 22,000 seat stadium.- Italy has been very boring with only one team outside of Inter/AC/Zebre winning Serie A since 2315.- Speaking of attendances, Al-Ahly of Egypt are one of the most popular teams, drawing over 357,000 fans for major international club finals. Real Esteli of Nicaragua pulls in around 300,000 fans for big games. Livingston of Scotland just hit 260,000 fans for some tournament games. Wing Yee Property of Hong Kong also often gets 250,000 fans for their major international club finals. Jorge Wilstermann of Bolivia also typically get 248,000 fans for those types of games. All of the major leagues seem capped at 140,000 fans. - Livingston have been the kings of Scotland. They've won the Scottish Premiership every year since 2365.- The game starts glitching after you get so far in when it comes to competition rankings. Denmark is currently off and on listed as the top competition when that isn't true and Belgium has been listed many times too.
Dont die yet.

After taking over a struggling team in the argentina league that was finishing constantly in the lower bottom half of the table, slowly building a competitive team, winning their 2nd highest continental cup(sudamericana) with a VERY average team in my first season, and winning 4 leagues in my 6 years there, i am now at Marseille. They have an AWFUL fucking team, even worse than my argentina club, and literally no money(same problem i had in argentina but i had a few youngsters in the pipeline and promoted another few that turned out very well.) I don't know if it's my tactics or what but my players are really fucking bad and the transfer window is now closed. Countless overpaid ngubus on long contracts that no other team wants, horrible defenders, and underperforming attackers. I guess i'll chalk up this season as just being over already(i'm in 8th place) and try to develop as many players as i can. I'm just used to winning a lot that every game is painful as fuck to get through. i had offers from bayern, milan, napoli, and sporting lisbon, and feel that i should have probably taken the latter two because they have pretty consistent youth academies and a decent amount of money to work with. I've even stopped playing the game as much since joining Marseille kek.

>/trb/ is backsince when?
Why did /trb/ die? I’m American I remember learning about this game from /sp/. The threads were always up. What changed?
>>132203831Logo packs should work as the id numbers haven't changed. Procedure is the same for every version. As for which to play, I have both 14 and 15. Between those 2, 14 is simpler tactic wise IIRC. 15 began their change. Both had the good old regen faces. For me, 14 is ahead because attributes on regens could get real sky high.
>>132154705How is the economy of the clubs? What does the best players cost?
>>132203918thread is too slow to stay alive when big things are happeningthankfully the footy is basically over so only the FA cup and UCL finals might bump it off.

little update >>132108078 the cunt turned down every contract offer in my attempts at player swapping and I'm now forced to fill my bench with youth players, which means I'll likely fail both the seasonal objective and won't be able to work within the wage budget :)
I can't believe this thread is alive this long. Anyway, how the FUCK do I get a Segundo Volante to work? It feels like the disconnect between the midfield and the attack is too far for the match engine to properly connect.FM21, if that matters.
Alright lards, /v/ tourist here.I want to try FM out, but have a few questions. I see that the essential downloads are for FM 21, why not 23? Is it a case of PES, where it got fucked in the newer releases? Can the databases be updated? How big is the modding community? Should I pay for it or just pirate?Cheers.
>>132197211Doesn't surprise me, I did a brief time at Opta and there's a lot of Miles types in the industry
>>132206543FM comes out every year but its rare they'll add massive changes to the game. You can normally skip a few editions if you aren't bothered about having the most up to date database.
>>132206543It's a yearly release game and a lot of the times the yearly release doesn't have enough new shit to justify the purchase. FM21 is considered the last "Big Leap" and everything past FM21 has just been incrementing on FM21.
>>132206175>How do I make Segundo Volante work treat him like a box-to-box midfielder or a mezzala instead of a defensive midfielder. To be honest I don't know why you're bothering with fancy top meme roles when CM is king.
What role would this 18 year old be the most influential in? He feels very well-rounded and it's making it hard for me to decide which midfield role he lands in.
>>132206657I'm trying to recreate the 1970 Brazil WC tactic and I need a Gerson.
>>132206668Deep Lying Playmaker on defend. He's good at defending and passing but he lacks flair to really create chances. Did you train the PT because id look to maybe add dictate tempo.
>>132206697sit him next to an anchor man or a defensive midfielder. He's basically a more defensive mezzala who runs forwards instead of sideways.
>>132206710I actually just stuck him into a Dictate Tempo training a few weeks ago. He's been playing Roaming Playmaker for the past 6 months and doing decent, but I always feel like he's just missing that last little thing to put him into the 7+ average rating, might try him a bit deeper like you said and see how it goes.
>>132206757RPM isn't bad but again his flair is just lacking to be a truly great creative midfielder. Let us know how it goes anon.
>Wing-back sends 10 crosses into the box>Opposition keeper saves every shot and header>Centre back randomly gets the ball deep>lumps it forward>CF scores Make it make sense
Thanks for the money. Still another instalment of £10M to come as well. City are a mess in this save, sacked Pep in 2028 after a trophyless season, have won nothing since then but still perpetually rolling in cash.
>>132206938I bought a player from China and ever since then, I keep getting outrageous offers from Chinese teams for some of my players. Bought a kid from Ajax at 15, had to wait til he was 18 before he was allowed to join or whatever the rule is. Cost me 1.2 million, played like 6 games for me this season and then Beijing offered 80 fucking million for him.
How far forward does a CF Trequartista sit compared to the CAM Trequartista?
>>132207157>Chinese clubs spending silly moneyAt least they got some parts accurate. I had DL Pro buy my 32yr old midfielder for double his value. Selling to Chinese clubs on FM is literal daylight robbery sometimes.
Some of the AI negotiating tactics are hilarious >Brentford make on 2mil offer for my 2nd choice left back, he's valued at 5mil. Negotiate 7.5mil and send back>Brentford withdraw the offer>Brentford make a 2.2mil offer for the same player>Say I want 7.5mil>Brentford withdraw the offer>Brentford make a 2.4mil offer Its like they aren't taking the fucking hint I want 7.5mil
>>132205215There was a long Miles podcast with some British business fucker (I understand completely why Miles isn't popular but I think he's very good as a podcast guest) where he said they probably won't be able to put women's football in FM24. How many years has it been now? I never hated it for chud reasons but it always seemed like a lot of work (by their standards) for minimal returns
>>132207850I wonder if its an engine issue and implementing women's football means reworking a lot of the mechanics.
>>132206668>>132206757teach him to stop getting into the opposition area, he is not good at finishing or headers so there is no reason for him to be rushing into the box
>>132206794im pretty sure flair does not matter too much for creative passes, as long as his passing vision and technique are good he should be fine and look at his decisions
How much would you say this 19 year old winger is worth?
If I choose away for friendlies in pre world cup friendlies it will be in the host country right and not the home of our opponents?
>>132207922>reworking a lot of the mechanicsI think it is. Miles mentioned in his blogpost the following things>attributes for women may need a different scale than the men>women's bodies are different from men's so using the current match engine for women would make them look weird>shit like transfers and finances are different from the men's>women have menstrual cycles and can get pregnant, although he isn't sure if those things will be in the game. If pregnancy will be in, I think it will be a regen-only thing but that's just my own speculationhttps://www.footballmanager.com/news/how-were-introducing-womens-football-football-manager

>>132211726you could probably find better dms, but 16 tackling is extremely valuable for a cb, since miles and his team of retards didnt include tackling for individual training.
>>132211683Could be date restricted. Kim Min Jae at Napoli has one but its only active in the first 2 weeks of July. >>132211726Stick with CB he wont make it as a DM
How do you people scout for established players? I have a system in place for finding kids, adding all the players from various international youth tournaments to a shortlist and offering trials to as many as possibleBut sometimes I want to buy some player who's actually older than 18 because it feels a bit unrealistic to do what I do, but it's so time consuming to identify and find decent players. Because the ones that are good are way too expensive so that pretty much only leaves free transfers and transfer listed playersThere's so much shit to wade through when using the player search screen and scouting players who you can't offer trials to gets expensive very fast
>>132212639I normally have one or two scouts just looking for end of contracts and that usually catches them
>>132213996I do the same really. Picked up a Chelsea reject at the end of his contract for free and now I'm getting constantly badgered with 40 million quid transfer offers for him just a year later. Granted, he was still fairly young. Only 23, but not like plucking a youth player.
>>132214047Chelsea are usually easy to pry younger players on frees from. Ive had some real worldies off them due to letting unbelievable regens just sit in the loan army.

>>132213996Yeah, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that you might as well just focus on spending transfer fees on kids only and end of contracts when buying established players. When you're at a decently sized club with a decent scouting network then you're going to have hundreds of scouted players anyways, so some of them will be available to pick up on end of contract every season
>>132229105Yeah once you're about 5 seasons in it gets significantly easier to do as every player should have either had a new contract or be up for renewal. Plus youve have 5 youth intakes and 16yr olds are turning 21 so they all start wanting regular minutes.
will they ever rework set pieces?
>>132227739I have a 4-3-3 system that for some reason is really, really good at shutting out big teams like City and Chelsea and Liverpool, or at least limiting them to maybe one clear cut chance per game. It's the same system I use against everyone else, I just switch some of the attacking mentalities to support mentalities instead. I do also have the keeper with the highest save % in the PL though, despite finishing 8th.
>>132101041haven't played 23 yet. Did they make counters somewhat relevant or do I still have to memepress?
>>132230228Probably its one of the areas that's been needing a rework for a few editions. >>132230300Counters are still shit. Fuck knows how many editions of FM and they still can't figure out how to make defensive football work.
>>132230228I've never made a defensive set piece because I've honestly got no idea what difference it makes and every free kick and corner I just pop onto the tallest guys head because I've tried making countless, I've tried copying almost as many, and nothing is as effective as just hit it at the tall guyWhat long throw rating do you need for that to be viable?
>>132230468Higher long throws the better, if you can get someone with a long flat throw as this will essentially make them like Rory Delap throws. Aim it into the box and it usually shits up the AI defence.
>>132230646I thought they patched long throws in FM21?
The season hasnt even started and I'm already regretting not having got a new keeper.
Is there any way to ask a player to stay when their release clause is met other than offering them a new contract?
>>132231938nope you have to pray their loyalty is high enough
>>132231938You can cheese the game by setting an asking price that's lower than the buyout clause and teams won't bid above that amountAlso works if you reject a bid for a player, they come to you to complain about not being sold and you promise you're going to sell them for a certain amount
Just had a goal disallowed because their striker was offside. Not sure how their team can be offside in their own box but here you go.
>>132232490>Also works if you reject a bid for a player, they come to you to complain about not being sold and you promise you're going to sell them for a certain amountWhen I do that usually they get mad even if the bid isn't met though.
In FM21, is there a way to check your team's star level compared to the rest of the teams in the league?
>>132232581I don't think you can do star level but you can compare average stats in the team report>comparison
Fucking kek Swansea are trying to beat the Derby record low points total. Look at the state of them
>>132232725Kek the bastards lost again.
just had the most scripted own goal. Leading 1-0 that would take me to the top of the championship. 80th minute my left back receives the ball from the keeper, turns and passes it into the open net. Miles can go fuck himself.
>>132233050Lost the FA Cup to Chelsea last season after hitting the post, the ball getting lumped up front to be gathered by my keeper, who proceeded to smash his drop kick off my defender's skull and into our net, all in the 90th minute. Sometimes it's just silly. Sometimes it just reeks of "You're the small team. You aren't supposed to win."
>>132233050>>132233177It's your tactics m8
>>132233177>Drew the subsequent game 0-0>win the next game 1-0>star right winger gets injured for the rest of the season>star left winger is suddenly wanted by AC Milan I already know what's coming lads >>132233233No Miles please I just want to win the championship and prove those cunts at Palace wrong.
>>132233233I remember when my tactics made my goalkeeper stand at the back of the net, looking like a retard as the ball got headed in off a corner kick. fucking tactics...
>>132233177i ve won the europa i ve won the ch lwith a greek league team yet whenever olympiakos reaches the cup final i have to save scum 40 times in order to win
>>132232549>furious player demand new contract>agent suggests locked release clause 8 m lower than that of the initial contract>sign contract,>release clause met 2 months later
>2-1 away at Bradford PA in Vanarama North>Both of us jostling for playoff spots>82nd minute, my winger gets booked (his very first of the season, in Feb no less)>85th minute he gets his second yellow>87th minute we have a goal disallowed for offside from corner (?)>94th minute my no nonsense CB, instead of hoofing the ball away like I asked and would be second nature for him anyway, decides to pirouette on the ball at the edge of our box, then slide a lovely pass through to their striker who OF COURSE doesn't miss the 1v1I don't even get any pleasure from fining someone their wages when it is only £200
>>1322170492039 here>Haaland just retired>Grealish manages Liverpool >Xavi at Barcelona>Pep at Bayern>KDB at Gladbach
>>132232581Isn't star level of a player literally only relative? IE if you are managing a championship side and somehow signed Mbappe your previously 4.5 star players would drop to about a 2 star. Or do I misunderstand how that works?
What are the most important mental attributes, regardless of role bar goalkeeper? I'm going to change my approach to scouting and make sure my players reach a certain baseline of mental attributes before looking at other attributes.Desicions, anticipation, composure, determination, concentration, anything else? I'm thinking about adding teamwork as well but I think I can be more flexible on that as long as it's not dogshit
>>132236021Those are the main ones. I also like having players with bravery over 12.
>>132235233It is how it works. Tbh I just heard someone on an FM stream mention their team being a "3 star Prem team" and wondered where they saw it, as I was away from the computer at the time I heard it.
>>132236021I read somewhere that teamwork is really only necessary for fluid systems. My team's average is like 18 because I have like 6-7 players on roam from position.
>>132236021positioning as well, and for hidden obviously has to love big matches. teamwork isn't important as long as he has good enough distribution, or if you don't play out of defense. also yeah, much all those. pic related is my keeper and hes easily the best in the world
>>132236150>Natural Fitness: 11Hes going to be heemed with injuries
>>132236021ive seen videos and posts on sifourms saying balance is a very important but usually overlooked attribute for goalkeepers and defenders. not a number 1 priority but it is a very good indicator of potential. it usually only ever grows a few points over their entire career, so a player with <10 balance is likely never going to be very good. but positioning and agility is pretty important. i believe composure is more of an "offensive" attribute.
>>132236150I've never really paid attention to attributes before, I've mostly looked at stars and scouting reports, because it feels like hidden attributes are more important than actual attributes. A striker with 6 finishing can be the best goal scorer ever and it doesn't matter how good a player is if his consistency is shit or he hates big games or things like thatBut I'm going to start looking at mentals more because those feel like they have the most impact on how a player performs and is also the hardest to train
>>132237415in the older games the hidden attributes like consistency and important matches were very important because they took forever to change or basically just didnt change at all, but in the newer games with mentoring it is possible to change those attributes fairly quickly. finding the right mental attributes for the right position can make players very overpowered. this game really favors like a tap in striker, 20 off the ball with like 5 finishing will still be a league leader in goals.
>>132237198honestly really hasnt had anything too bad for a while. >>132237415in my experience it just seems like the game has players it favors, ignoring all attributes. the only stats that i've seen to have mattered for strikers are technique, pace and composure. my current striker is said to be a "very consistent performer" but will go on spells where he fails to score in 5-10 games against comparably weak competition. he's also played as an advanced forward which seems to be an inconsistent role in general. target forwards and deep lying forwards in the right system seem to be the best in 23.
>>132237733Hes gonna get a big injury soon anon
>>132237733I really don't understand it either, I'm managing Toulouse after they had just gotten promoted to Ligue 1, and I had a godly striker who scored the most goals in the league, more than Haaland and Mbappe. But then I sold him and I've tried four different strikes in the club, in the same system, and they're all playing like shit. The best one out of the bunch has gotten like 4 goals in 20 games. One thing I'm fairly sure about though is that you're better off using two strikers when you're the underdog, because when you're a shit team with shit strikers then they tend to be too inconsistent when using one striker, and using two strikers means the other one can pick up the slack
>>132238043>One thing I'm fairly sure about though is that you're better off using two strikers when you're the underdog3 is usually the best against teams with 2 cb, against teams with 3 you just need a guy with 17+ jumping reach or you pick out the less dominant wingback and focus on that side by direct long ball. theres also the ridiculous amount of 1v1s that are a result of through balls over the top that happen, which is why i say you need someone with high pace+high composure/likes to round keeper.
>tfw no burly 6'4" targetman bf
>>132238043Whats their familiarity with the system?Do they have different player traits? How regularly are you changing things? How many chances do you create?
Anyone here plays the Tennis version of FM, Tennis Manager? Is it worth a try?
