The school is an athletics juggernaut in football and basketball at the Division 2 level, it’s equal distance from Kansas City, Des Moines, and Omaha, and when Mizzou’s enrollment started to drop after the poop swastika protest, the enrollment here started to grow exponentially. It’s a top comfy rural school with good sports and a nearly 100% white student body.

I still have the thread open. I just ctrl + F''d the n word and there are 7 results (5 times in one post, 2 times in another post). That's pretty low, if that's all it takes to delete a thread you might as well delete the board. The 5x post happened over 24 hours before the thread was pruned, the 2x post was 10 hours before pruning. If janjan nuked the thread because of that instead of just deleting the posts we should make sure the mods hear about it, which you can do with the process in my first post.

Jannies are very inconsistent and some are more sensitive to certain things than others. Pic related drew a warning, which is ridiculous but apparently that particular janny was simping for old women. Doubt the mods really care about jannies going overboard. IIRC, jannies can't delete entire threads so it would have been a mod who did it, but I don't know that for sure.
If it wasn't deleted for slurs, maybe it was an error due to several other faux cfb threads being started and deleted around the same time. Think one was about the Canadian Football League and the other was some weird muttering about FCS.
Generally I look at moderation policies here as being like weather. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there's not all that much you can do about it.

Didn't know this thread was still running.
But I don't understand what Utah is doing. They should be the one trying to get into the Big 12, since they could easily get left out in the event of further Big 10 expansion.
Big 12 could easily take San Diego State instead of them, who could be the next UCF (solid program, in a big city without an NFL team, new stadium). Big 12 expanding with SDSU, Arizona, ASU, Colorado doesn't seem like an unlikely scenario, leaving Utah back in the MWC.
Instead, Utah seems to be leading the charge for staying in the Pac 12 while Arizona (who will always have a place in the Big 12) seems to be leading the charge for leaving.
>>
>>122541605
They claim a natty in their media guide but are too pussy to display it on their stadium.
>>
>>122541768
Athletics vs academics. Utah's administrators would rather have wine and cheese with their fellow administrators at Cal, Stanford, and Washington than have to hang out with those from Baylor, West Virginia, and UCF. And even though being in the same conference as BYU would make scheduling issues easier, they likely want to differentiate themselves from BYU by being in a "serious academic" conference.
But as you point out, they're playing a game of chicken and could potentially fall down to the Mountain West if they're not careful.

Syracuse and Boston College would be shoe-ins. Doubt Pitt is going to get picked up by a P2.5 so they might be in too. Would West Virginia be willing to defect from the B12? Probably not as the difference in money would be too great but them being in a conference with Pitt would be nice.
>>
>>122542338
>Athletics vs academics.
Worrying about the academics of an athletic conference is honestly so retarded. Like how did we get to this point.
Nobody thinks Arizona State is an elite school because they share a conference with Stanford.
>>
Any natty that is claimed years after the fact is lame.
In fact, I'd argue all pre-WW2 nattys should be dropped. Or at least pre-AP Poll.
Than any natty claimed where the team wasn't #1 in either Coaches or AP should be laughed at.
>>
>>122542854
I think the Big 12 would definitely invite Pitt if they don't make it into a super conference. Solid program, good recruiting territory, already have a couple schools nearby and it gives the conference another big rivalry game (Pitt/WVU). The Big 12 should go hard on adding/reuniting rivals when making expansion decisions. Rivalry games always generate good ratings and interest across the sport.
>>
>>122542903
True but it's college presidents who decide on conference membership, not athletics directors. The president of Utah cares more about academics than athletics. He was born in Berkeley and has an Ivy League degree from Whorton (UPenn). I'm sure he understands the value that athletics brings to the school and the downsides of falling to the MWC but if he has a chance to keep the PAC10 alive, he's going to take it rather than quickly jumping at a Big 12 lifeline.
>>122542952
It would get a good get for them if they weren't for some reason against expansion at that point.

>>
>>122543245
It's not about changing the academic perception of the university, it's about academic types hobnobbing with each other on the level they believe themselves to be.
I recognize you by your flag and I know from past discussions that you love wrapping yourself up in a single point of contention and refuse to look at the larger picture so believe whatever you want to believe, just don't act shocked when the world does playout the way you've constructed it in your head. You confess confusion over what Utah is doing, it's been explained to you but you would rather continue being confused than accept the simply direct explanation. In light of that, Utah's president has been taken over by lizard people from space who are trying to keep the flat Earth a secret, which is why the Big 12 must be destroyed at all costs! And that's why he is determined to save the PAC12.

Nebraska joined the Big Ten and has continued their downward spiral academically, it's done nothing to help them reverse course in that regard
Cincinnati was constantly passed up by P5s until recently but has somehow managed to get their academics up to nearly B1G levels in spite of that
The whole "if we join X conference it will look good academically" thing is such horseshit, academic improvement and performance is independent of conference affiliation

What do you do to make them finally give up all fantasies/hopes that will otherwise have them clinging onto a dilapidated and backfilled PAC12 with uneven revenue sharing? Who do you take (PAC or otherwise) to force them into the absolute most desperate position possible? How do you force them to finally swallow the pill and join the Big 12? Or is there literally no scenario in which you can reasonably pull this off?

>How do you force them to finally swallow the pill and join the Big 12?
Call up the 4Corners Schools and sign them up.
Even if Utah declines, losing ASU, Arizona and Colorado kills the PAC and forces Utah, Washington, Oregon, Stanford and Cal to make a jump ASAP.
>>
>>122553246
Fuck 'em, if they don't want to join and they think they're too good for >us and they believe they deserve unequal revenue >we don't want them. All the attitude of Texas and Oklahoma but they bring a fraction of the revenue. >We don't need that diva behavior.
t. Big 12 alum
>>
>>122553615
>implying
Oregon and Washington may very well be trying to drive the four corners out of the conference so they can backfill them with the SDSU's and SMU's of the world who will all gladly accept an uneven revenue share structure. It makes complete sense *if* you're absolutely convinced that you're B1G bound so long as you can stall as long as that takes. And getting $40-45mil a year is more than fine to do that even if everybody else in the conference is getting pennies, because they're just glad to still be there.

Nothing kills the PAC12 other than Oregon and Washington not being able to get the revenue cut that lets them hold onto B1G hopes. Losing four schools that aren't massive revenue generators but are all too prideful to let you steamroll them on revenue distribution and replacing them with new markets and schools that are getting a massive raise even *if* you're giving them only a fraction of what they should get isn't as big of a blow as people seem to immediately assume.

It's that exact reason that has me wondering if there's more value in the Big 12 taking SDSU and only some schools from the PAC than taking all four corners. You take the ones with the most value immediately and take SDSU--the first school they'd take to replace them--with the intent to eventually take all of them anyway, but with a chance you can force Oregon and Washington into a worse position.

Nick Saban retires at the end of the 2024 football season. Why? Many reasons.
Age is starting to catch up with him. He's always been in good condition for a man of his age but over the past two years, it's started catching up with him. While some coaches like Paterno stay as "head coach" into their 80s, by then they're mostly a figurehead being wheeled around.
Saban could let the program run on auto-pilot for a couple of years with limited decline to quality but eventually it's going to need him there for course corrections, which is difficult for a man who will be in his mid 70s by then.
2025 is when Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC and divisions likely go away. If there's playoff expansion, that likely starts in 2025 too. That's even more change to have to deal with that he might not want to.
His wife has patiently stood by him as a coach's wife his entire career. In 2025 they'll celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Their children are adults now and this is their chance to spend time with the grandchildren. The Sabans also have a children's charity that they can spend more time focusing on. If "Miss Terry" says it's time for Nick to retire, doubt he tells her no. Not because he's pussy whipped but because she's stood by him for five decades and deserves some consideration in her golden years.
If he still needs a football fix now and then, every network will jump at the chance to have him be a guest commentator whenever he wants. He's done that several times in the past and is actually pretty good at it, even if he's a bit technical and dry.

Not trying to shit on WV but they have very little to offer beyond existence, which is all the Big 12 needed when they invited them to shore up their (at the time) decaying conference. It was a good deal for both sides back then, but no one is coming after West Virginia now and they need to be happy with what they have. All of this endless talk about wanting into the ACC, SEC, or Big 10 doesn't inspire loyalty to them from the rest of the Big 12. Why be loyal to a school that constantly is looking for ways to leave you? The Big 12 is West Virginia's ceiling. They should accept that and make the best of it.

>>
>>122565215
I disagree anon. West Virginia fans travel well, Morgantown would be an incredibly fun away game for anybody in the SEC, it brings in the Pittsburg market, and at one time West Virginia had a top 25 football and basketball program going simultaneously. Moving to the Big 12 killed them because in order for West Virginia to be good, they need exposure in the Pittsburg/DC/Philadelphia/Baltimore market and playing noon games in the Big 12 is not helping them. Nobody in the aforementioned cities cares about Texas Tech or Baylor. Academically they would never get an invite to the Big Ten, but the ACC or SEC fit culturally. Does the SEC need West Virginia? Shit no. The ACC is a little more desperate though, and after losing Maryland and the DC/Baltimore market, I could see West Virginia be a viable pick. Does anybody know where Pitt would welcome West Virginia or does Pitt want to block them?
>>
>>122563917
I'm pretty sure the PAC needs a unanimous vote to expand, so yeah, Cal does have the power to shit on expansion just like they did in the '60s with Loyola Marymount, like they tried in the '70s with the AZ schools (USC threatened to go independent if the AZ schools weren't let in and Cal folded), like Stanford did in the '90s when Texas was floating interest in the PAC before the SWC imploded, like Cal did in 2011 when they voted no on Oklahoma State and thus left Oklahoma to rot in the BIGXII and then followed it up with a no vote on a BYU+Texas pairing to allow Texas their Longhorn Network.

You'll never get your wish but you can feel hopeful while the world rapidly passes you by.

NO FUCKING FOOTBALL ON TODAY HOW GREAT

seriously can't wait to be back in the stadium
>>
>>122565702
Cal dumped close to half a billion into making their stadium earthquake resistant so now they need to make that money back. If the PACxx indeed requires unanimous agreement on membership invites and Cal keeps acting stupid, the rest of the conference could simply leave and start their own new conference. With their current media contract expiring and a new one not yet signed, now is the time to do something like that though more likely is most schools simply joining other conferences if Cal continues to be dickheads.

The Big 10 is weird because the conference is a subdivision of an academic consortium. While other conferences have academic alliances, they were sports conferences first and grafted on the academic cooperation stuff for PR. With the Big 10, the schools got together for academic cooperation and then decided to start playing against each other in sports. Given the reality of where college football is headed, they should either spin off the athletic conference into its own independent entity or they should allow sports only members that aren't part of the academic alliance side.

Those schools are racist! Ok, not really but P5 teams are fighting each other to put HBCUs on their schedules to show how racist they're not and most HBCUs are FCS. Additionally, more states are requiring their P5 schools to schedule in-state FCS schools to help them out with their budgets. Of course some of these schools would still schedule FCS cupcakes even without the race or in-state angles.
For G5s, especially those trying to build their programs, wins over FCS teams is not a given. And then once in a while you get a Michigan v App State type game that serve to amuse everyone who isn't a Michigan fan. But if you're a top P5 team looking to get into the playoff, you'd better make up for that FCS game with quality wins over other top P5 teams.

Reminder that, with the exception of Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl, Alabama hasn't played an instate school since the 1940s. They will happily schedule FCS and bottom dwelling G5 schools from other states but absolutely refuse to play anyone from their own state other than Auburn (and even that required the legislature to threaten to cut off funding if they didn't).
>>
>Michigan should be congratulated for not playing an FCS team
They play UConn....
UConn would probably lose to an average FCS team
>>
>>122549711
Now that they finally have a stadium, SDSU seems positioned to be the next UCF, solid G5 program in a big city without an NFL team.
If they can put together wins, they are playing for a P5 invite. Probably in a better long term situation than some members of the Pac 12.

The big question is would the PAC let them join if that was the only way for the conference to survive. The PAC is probably the snobbiest conference, especially about a "state that's not a state" schools. If the Arizona schools end up in the Big 12, the conference probably would be open to SDSU too.
>>
Just go ahead and merge the Pac-Some Number Conference with the Mountain West and then create two divisions inside the conference.
>>
>>122616935
Do they just not want in state competition besides Auburn? Auburn plays (and pays) an instate school pretty much every year.

Probably goes back to the days when most recruiting was in your state and nearby states in the region. Playing other schools in your state validated their existence as a real program, which could lead some of your benchwarming walk-ons to pick that other school for a scholarship and starting position. By denigrating the other schools, you could discourage your potential third and fourth strings from playing for them. But if you play an FCS in another state, it helps legitimize it there and undermines your P5 competition in that state.
Auburn played UAB back in 1996 and Alabama had a huge meltdown over it because they didn't want UAB's football program to even exist so Auburn legitimizing UAB by playing them really pissed off the Alabama Board of Trustees, especially Bear Bryant Jr. While I don't think the Auburn v UAB was the main factor, the Alabama BoT ended up finding an excuse to kill off UAB's football team for a few years, which looked very petty and was more embarrassing that they thought it would be, with UA getting called out constantly by the sports press for killing poor ol' UAB's football program.
>>
>>122616501
Let's assume said-FCS team is a good but not great FCS teams.....say Northern Iowa. Colorado, Georgia State, ODU, and UTEP would all have a decent at losing.
>>
>>122618071
I'm a fucking idiot and am expecting relative success this season. If we don't get to at least 8-4 Frost needs to go. He has more talent than anyone in the west at this point and his coaching talent is also top-notch now. He literally has no more excuses. 8-4, with the easiest schedule he's had since he arrived in Lincoln, should be bare minimum at this point. Anything less and Alberts better be backing up the Brinks truck to Aranda's, Rhule's, or CHADwell's house.
>>
>>122618035
The Alabama system has its main campus in Tuscaloosa and then UAB and UAH, in Birmingham and Huntsville respectively.
The Auburn system has their main campus in Auburn and then AUM in Montgomery.
Troy used to have a system with the main campus in Troy and campuses in Montgomery, Dothan, and Phenix City but they merged into one entity.
The other schools like Alabama State, West Alabama, South Alabama, North Alabama, and Jacksonville State aren't part of a system. They just kind of float around doing their own thing. But the state law school is part of the University of Alabama, so a large percentage of the state legislature graduated from UA and protect its interests over those of other schools in the state. So even those those schools aren't officially in the UA System, they still are somewhat subservient to it.

The AAC adds honestly seem underwhelming, the only one that seems interesting is UTSA.
Imagine if they added App State, James Madison instead of all those teams that nobody cares about. League would be much more interesting, even if its only 10 teams. It'd be cool if they get Army (maybe the Army-Navy game could stay as a permanent non-conference game, and never have it scheduled as a conference game).
Who do you think has more fans in Charlotte, UNC-Charlotte or App State?

I think they could tolerate SDSU. Cal and Stanford might grumble about it but ultimately they would approve them joining the Pac. They're better academically than schools like Arizona State and Washington State. The problem is who do you add for #12?
>Fresno State
>Boise State
>SMU
>UNLV
Nobody from the Big 12 is coming so those are your best options and they all have worse flaws than SDSU. From a market and recruiting perspective Fresno and UNLV are the best choices and Fresno usually has a respectable team, but their academics are terrible plus UNLV has a dogshit football program. Boise has the best football program but next to nothing for recruiting and market plus poor academics. SMU is a religious school so that's probably a non-starter for the Bay Area pricks. Maybe Hawaii to double down on Pac 12 after dark memes?
>>
Favorites to make each Championship game?
ACC: Miami, Clemson
Big Ten: Wisconsin? Ohio State.
Big 12: Oklahoma and Oklahoma State?
Pac 12: Utah, Oregon
SEC: Georgia, Alabama
>>
>>122619056
Divisions are of the past. What's the point of having even number of teams? AAC had 11 this year, Big Ten had 11 for a long time.
Anyways, I could see the Big 12 grabbing SDSU instead of one of the four corner schools.
SMU isn't really a religious school, its only in name. UNLV would probably be the next option though, although still a pretty bad one. Fresno State also has issues with fan behavior. From my understanding, gang violence is prevalent at their stadium.

UConn was only good for from like 2007-09. The only reason they made it to a BCS bowl in 2010 was because the Big East was trash and they beat WVU.

Part of me wonders if them dropping out of the P5 was because they lost their asses with that BCS bowl
None of their fans showed up to the game so the university had to buy $2 million worth in tickets to pay for the empty seats

They never had a chance to win that game. That's why the BCS was a sham. Automatic new years bowl qualifiers without direction, aka the dying days of the Big East conference, were doomed with that setup.

Who put FSU and Oregon State on their ballots? Spurrier used to put Duke as #25 on his pre-season ballot but was asked to stop doing that and I don't think anyone else has tried doing the same thing for a team that gave them their start so these voter actually believe those teams will be top twenty five teams.

That's bowls, sometimes you get those ugly matchups like that, but losing $2 million in ticket sales after you go from FCS to BCS is pathetic
Chicago got hyped when NIU made the Rose Bowl, Hartford and Storrs were more interested in Patriots-Jets or something instead

That UConn team was 8-4 with no conference championship game. The loss in revenue is do to that university being screwed into being served on a silver platter to a legit conference champion.

>UAB tried to hire future Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher, but funds were denied at the 11th hour with no public comment.
>UAB played in one of the most decrepit facilities in FBS, city-owned Legion Field. A proposal for a small stadium was denied as "the wrong project at the wrong time."
>Coach Bill Clark created a plan for a $10 million practice facility funded substantially through private donations, replacing fields that routinely flooded. The mayor supported the project. The board never approved it, but months after killing football, greenlit a $4.5 million soccer complex.
>When a local business arranged to upgrade practice turf at no cost, UA trustee Finis St. John had the project killed, according to an AL.com report.
>In 2011, St. John implied publicly that UAB shouldn't have athletics. St. John and others feel the medical school should be UAB's focus, not football. In the state of Alabama.
Man that’s petty

Dude, it's a BCS game, if they weren't so NFL obsessed they would have been hyped even if they backed in

It's all Alabama has got. It's not like Texas and Texas A&M propping up their system schools, Alabama is not a big state and it is not a rich state. Saban threw a tantrum after Fisher's NIL antics because he can't match it. The money isn't there. Alabama literally cannot afford to compete with UAB if UAB gets too big.

Which is another reason why I think Saban is going to retire before the 2025 season. He can go out on top but if he tries to become the next Joe Paterno, changes like NIL is going to eat him up.

well we used to have a big rivalry with memphis back in the cusa days in basketball before the niners were forced to relocate to the Atlantic 10 because we had no football at the time. so I guess a large number of old fans on our end would like to restart that rivalry. temple is also interesting because of the whole decade of having to play them in the atlantic 10 even though the match ups at the time were one sided favoring the owls and charlotte at the time had a bigger beef with george washington university. charlotte fans have also like playing against uab but I don't see that becoming a real rivalry since I dont see a lot of hate there. I guess the number one team to look at as a main rival fpr the time being will be ecu. we both share the same state even though we are on the different sides. we are more of an urban university while ecu is more rural. and both schools tend to look down on the other for a variety of different reasons.
