I nearly thought I was going to break my crank arm today when out of the saddle. Anytime I put down large torque it sounded very bad. Inspected it all after my ride and couldn't find any cracks on the cranks or what is visible of the BB. How often should I service a BB? Maybe it just needs cleaned.
>>114137563Drive side crank or non-drive side? Check your pedals and chainrings first as that's easier to debug. It can also be your cassette that's making the sound which may look like it's coming from the crank. All these are things you should check before servicing the BB. Maybe get someone else to really listen where the sound's coming from

Pogacar's nice interview in L'Equipe todayTadej Pogacar is at home in Paris, and not only because he has been crowned two summers in a row on the Grande Boucle. His mother, Marjeta, professor of French at the university, has long had the habit of taking the small family on vacation in France, which left the 23-year-old phenomenon "some beautiful tourist memories" in the capital. .On Wednesday, the Slovenian went to the headquarters of L'Équipe without his parents but with his fiancée, Urska Zigart: "exhausted" by an intense season where he shone almost continuously from February to October, the rider returned to his crazy year during an hour-long interview during which he gradually relaxed, before leaving the editorial office with under his arm the collection of all the newspaper headlines that were devoted to him. This Thursday morning, at the Palais des Congrès, he will attend his first presentation ceremony of the Tour de France route, over which he has nevertheless reigned in the last two editions.“What do you know about the Tour de France 2022 route presented today?I tried to follow the rumors on Twitter, I heard a couple of cool things. The Planche des Belles Filles, Alpe d'Huez, the cobblestones ... it's looking good. Even the cobblestones, yes, it's a challenge that excites me, a new kind of cycling that I have never experienced before. I can't wait to find out. My program for 2022 is not yet fixed, but if all goes well, I will be at the start of the Tour next year.
>>114144857>not live shitposting about every stage ngmi
On the initiative of a Belgian sponsor, you spent some time with Eddy Merckx at the start of the week ...I had only seen him once before, for a few minutes, behind a podium on the Tour. It was huge spending time with such a champion. At first I was a little shy, downright nervous in fact, I must admit that he impressed me. I've heard so much about him ... But by the end of the night, I was much more relaxed (smile). He said: "With Tadej, I think we really have the new Merckx." In general, I answer that these are comparisons for the media, that it does not interest the public too much. But there, as it came directly from him, it takes on a whole new importance. I was surprised he said that, frankly, I didn't expect him to make this speech. I was touched. We are talking about a guy who won everything ... I am very grateful to him.He is right ?I do not know. I'm very honest when I say that the goal of my career is to make the most of the moment and make my family happy: I don't care about the future, to mark the history of cycling, to to be compared to the big ones. I barely take the measure of what I have been doing for two years. So yes, when I hear the words of Eddy Merckx, it changes my point of view a bit. If he says so, I guess I'm making history...
You have had an exceptional season. A perfect season?During the first part of the year, everything went perfectly (he won the UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour de France and three bonus stages). I think it's impossible to do better, really. I was in the shape of my life. The most surprising thing is that we had to start from scratch after the Ardennes classics, and yet, after a course in Sestriere, I was already on top again, I had incredible legs on the Tour. After the Games (he finished in bronze), on the other hand, I observed a period of rest from which I had a lot of difficulty coming back. It was not a bluff, at Plouay (during the Bretagne Classic, which he abandoned), I was really in the hard. I had a few really bad days. Finding a peak in form for the Italian classics was complicated. But I never lost confidence.Looks like you never lose confidence ...I am more confident on the bike than in life, where I am a fairly reserved person. But I can assure you that I am far from being the most confident rider in the peloton. Sometimes I have shitty legs and that makes me doubt. I ask myself questions before each time trial. I don't like the sprint stages, I'm not comfortable with rubbing, going over the aisles at 60 per hour to avoid falling. I'm not as easy as I look. However, you have completed your year with a new Monument.Yes, and I'm proud of it, I dreamed of the Tour of Lombardy. And now that the season is over, I'm completely drained. I'm going to land, first in Slovenia and then in Monaco (where he lives), spend time with those I love and stop thinking about cycling for a while.
What is the victory that has marked you the most this year? Each race has its own story, even those that I had to give up: sometimes these days mark you more than your victories ... But Liège-Bastogne-Liège was really memorable. The Grand-Bornand stage on the Tour as well. What are you dreaming of now?Win with the Slovenian national team jersey. I didn't go far at the Olympic Games, but winning the Worlds would be another story. Running for his country and wearing the rainbow jersey for a year, that makes me dream. I understand that the route of the next Worlds (in Wollongong, Australia) is tailored for sprinters, I will have to wait a bit. But there are quite a few nice climbs in Rwanda (where the 2025 edition will be held), right? It's going to be epic there.Did you watch Paris-Roubaix ten days ago?I first tried watching the race on my phone as I recognized the Tour of Lombardy route, but it was raining so much that day that it was impossible. I followed the end of the race to the hotel. It was huge, arguably the best race of the year for spectators. If it tempted me? No, I did not even imagine participating in it, I was in pain for the runners. I was surprised to hear that most of them enjoyed it ...Now that you have won Liège and Lombardy, everyone is waiting for you at the other three Monuments (Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Tour des Flandres).Pfff, the three I have left to win are probably the most difficult for me. I won't get there for a very long time. On Milan-San Remo, I think I can defend my chances. But in Flanders and Roubaix ... I have never even taken part in these races. Frankly, they seem out of reach to me. To be competitive there, I would have to develop a new program, put aside other events to prepare them 100% ... This is not in my plans for the moment.
Julian Alaphilippe tackled the Tour of Flanders last year and almost won. Doesn't that give you any ideas? Not at the moment. Alaphilippe is the best puncher in the world, he proved it again at the last Worlds: I was so far away that I didn't even see his attacks, I had to watch a summary of the race in the evening to know what had happened. Le Ronde is a race that suits him more than me. I'm not saying that I won't try to participate someday, but not right away. This year, more than ever, the races were unbridled, the leaders attacked from afar ... It's great, isn't it?When you sit on your sofa and turn on the TV, that's what you want to see: guys who start 100 kilometers from the finish, not wait-and-see runners who wait for the last 10 kilometers to enter in action. I feel like professional cycling has never been so fun and that's to be congratulated. For example, what do you think of when you set off 120 kilometers from the finish in the Trois Vallées Varésines two weeks ago? You say to yourself: come on, am I going to do the show?Yes. This race took place on a very technical circuit, it was raining, it was cold. At the end of a big bend, I found myself in the lead with Tim Wellens who said to me: are we going? I smiled and just said, OK. So we started, we caught up with the breakaway and I would probably have won if I hadn't been the victim of a puncture. I will never forget this race, frankly, I experienced it all that day. After my incident, I managed to reintegrate a group of pursuers but I was so destroyed that I could barely follow him, and in the end I found the resources to sprint and finish on the podium (he laughs shaking his head). It was huge. A great day of cycling.
The last part. The races have never been so spectacular. They are also much faster than before. Some runners are surprised to see the new generation, which you embody, ride so fast ...We're going faster today than ten years ago, that's undeniable. The training methods have evolved, the equipment too, the jerseys, the shorts, the helmets, even the glasses and the shoes ... The bikes are lighter, more aerodynamic, they always remain manageable, even at more than 70 km / h, and it is clear that it is the young runners who benefit the most from these technological improvements. Some will say: yes, but ten years ago we already had very good bikes, but today they are just better. Today, we have disc brakes, electronic speed controls ... This was not the case until a short time ago. It is easier to go fast with current bikes, it is quite simply a fact. What do you think you are doing more - or different - than your opponents in training?I do not know. I don't have fun watching what my opponents are doing. I have total confidence in my coach (the Spanish doctor Inigo San Millan), I tell him when what he offers me does not suit me, sometimes it's too much, sometimes not enough, and so far, it works very good. I don't think I train differently from others, I work like many around Monaco, on beautiful roads, where I am not bothered by traffic. Each season, I do a little more volume. Last year, I drove 27,000 kilometers despite the Covid. In 2021, I will not finish far from 30,000.Do you feel like you sacrifice a lot to be a good cyclist?(Thinks.) The hardest part was leaving my childhood friends and family. To end my summer vacation, too.But are these really sacrifices?I love my job, I love the team I'm running for. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. Cycling can be tough, but it's a lot harder to work at the factory standing for eight hours, getting stuck in traffic for two hours every day. I don't lead a bad life ... "
>>114147193He will do the grand tours or he will be bullied outta here
>>114147251>implying it is cool now
>>114147386>The bikes are lighterhmmmI agree with everything else though. They are going faster with less effort. I love checking Strava after a race and seeing 42km/h for 180km with less than 200W
>>114147386>Do you feel like you sacrifice a lot to be a good cyclist?I was thinking about this the other day. If you are a bit paranoid, I can't just imagine for example eating out at random restaurants out of fear of getting Contador's steaks.

Alpe D'Huez really need to consider an extension next time.I'd suggest Les Petites Rousses, Would be the highest climb in a GT ever at a bit over 2800m, and it has a good gravel access road that should be suitable for bikes, without too bad grades.
and the Carapaz rat stage was 130km
>>114148243Is this with a grid start?

>>114148299and the gaps were minuscule. with short mountain stages there literally no way to gain back significant time.
>>114148320I don't care about gaps. It was an entertaining stage
All in all, terribad route.Foix stage was supposed to have Plateau de Beille, but the roadwork is late. The lack of even one 200km+ hilly stage that isn't fucking Mende is a travesty. There was plenty of potential for 1-2 200km stages in the big ranges. There are some alright medium curveball stages, along with some meme cobbles and some punchy finishes, but this feels like a parody Vuelta.Unless Pogi cracks at Super Planches then the tour is a nothingburger.
>>114148361Stop complaining, it's hard enough so that riders can make something if they want.

A decent but a bit boring route, desu. Cobbles are nice but too many short stages and the only stage that starts with a proper climb seems to be the Alpe d'Huez one.
