What's the best college degree to do now that GPT killed compsci?
PhD in Math.
>>15282213The same as it was before. CS was never good and chat GPT didn't really change anything
>>15282239>The same as it was beforeWhich is?>CS was never good and chat GPT didn't really change anythingBullshit. A bachelor's in CS used to be one of the greatest returns you could have on education.
>>15282350That's only because poopoo peepoo companies were overvalued and everyone felt a compulsive need to create a shit ton of apps for no real reason. The bubble is popping. Funnily enough I was expecting education to be the first thing to pop.
I;m getting bachelor in cmp sci and have not been following the chat bot thing, why should I be concerned?
CS degrees are kind of stupid because the most productive programmers are either self-taught or taught during the reign of C and assembly. You can still be a productive programmer with a CS degree nowadays though. Code monkeys generally give Comp Sci a bad name.>>15282408Chat bots can generate some decent textual data (and potentially audio/visual data) but if you're better than a code monkey you shouldn't be concerned.
>>15282213if you believe everything can be automated then you should learn robotics because that is the logical conclusion of increasing automation, robots taking over everything.
>>15282220PhD in math is guarantee of failure anon
>>15282439The sad thing is that it really is so easy to advance from being a codemonkey. It's such an exceptionally low bar to pass and CSfags still choose to be either too lazy or easily intimidated by higher concepts to ever change from their codemonkey status.
No engineering degree should be S tier, they are all C tier at best these days. The engineering midwit degrees as I call them, where all employers will think you are an idiot if you only have a bachelor's in engineering and allow you to do technician work for a lower middle class (non-home ownership) salary.
EE
>>15282220>>15282445But pure math is the final frontier for AI to conquer. Physics, chemistry, biology, engineering all are based on certain principles that can be learned and extrapolated from. Pure math *is* the principles; it's all about human imagination. If a computer starts solving pure math, or coming up with its own problems (and solving them), humans can just make up something different.
>>15282213Double Major in Math and Statistics.Statistics for Ai and Math for the rigorous background, also minor in CS because why not
>>15282683> basedThis is a good strategy anon, good luck
>>15282213>compscinerdnursing -> pre-reqs -> med
>>15282213This tierlist is retarded. EE has been dead for around 30 years and Aerospace for 50 years and mechE for 70 years. Comp sci or soft eng are here to stay. Only a brainlet would think that compsci is over.
>>15282439>CS degrees are kind of stupid because the most productive programmers are either self-taught or taught during the reign of C and assemblyI work in software development and I've literally never met a competent programmer who is self-taught
>>15282213After reading the replies, I've realized that I'm the only person on sci who has a job.
Gender science is unreplaceable because gender is computationally irreducible. It's too complex to be understood by an artificial intelligence. Also guaranteed job in DEI, ESG or CRT positions in any big corporation.
>>15284046>ElectricalGo to glassdoor right now>AerospaceIts literally never been more alive. Newspace is booming and starship will open up a ton of opportunities in terms of payloads>mechanicalSee the first point>compsciIts a bubble. Everyone and their fucking mother is going into CS and oversaturating the field. Chatgpt once it gets better is also going to replace a ton of code monkeys.
>>15282213>now that GPT killed compsciit didn't, brainlet
>>15284046Another code monkey who was filtered by those degrees and is doomed to study piss easy CS
>>15282353>poopoo peepoo companiesAre you well, anon? Do you have brain damage?
>>15284313>"compsci is a bubble"I'm a different person and I agree that engineering is amazing for job prospects right now, as it's nearly impossible to oversaturate that field. However, I also think that computer science is amazing for jobs because I doubt that AI will replace any jobs, given that even AI-generated art hasn't replaced anyone's job.
>>15285705>AI-generated art hasn't replaced anyone's job.Anon...
>>15285735It literally hasn't
>>15284137I was an oblivious teen once too. Compentent devs don't get allocated to babysitting juniors or interns.t. fintech monkey with majority of "10xers" being self-taught aspies that make PhDs look like retards most of the time
networking & connections >>>>>> degreesame as it ever was
msc in civil engineering.I hate it.dad made me do it.
>>15285761>he doesn't like building infrastructureJust transition already
>>15282213Women's studies
By the time compsci majors graduate chatGPT will be making headway in the field leaving you stranded and in an existential crisis. Its advancing way too fast.
>>15282574What he means is that a PhD in math gets you a depressing low status wagie job and nothing else and that's if you're lucky.
>>15284137dumbest thing I seen today. everyone in software is self taught even if they got a comp sci degree. you still have to learn a lot on your own outside that curriculum. the best programmers are the ones that do it for fun, nigger.
>>15285736It's killing the furry porn art market unironically.
