>horrible weather>regular hurricaneswhy dont they just launch from fucking Nevada or something? I really dont get it.
Florida is the greatest state in the union.
if a stage fails it will crush a field of corn which is unacceptable
>>13076238Is /Sci/ the ultimate midwit board?
>>13076238Rockets generally need to launch eastward to get a boost from the Earth's rotation. You want to launch from where there's nothing below you to the east. Even a state with low population like Nevada has more people and infrastructure below than the ocean does.
I know it's a troll thread, but rockets have to be launched from below the 23rd parallel to efficiently reach the Moon and to get the maximum benefit of the Coriolis Effect.Yes, Americunts don't know this, generally speaking.
>>13076238wonder if a Hawaiian launchpad would work
>>13076459>>13076481>troll threadOP here, no im actually retarded. Thanks for explaining btw, it makes sense now.>>13076428always been
>>13076627Lurk 2 years before posting
>>13076532It could but Hawaii doesn't have the industrial base for a spaceport. Everything could be brought in. That's what the Navy does for their operations there but that's worth the cost for what having a mid-Pacific base means for them. For space programs, easy access to the continental industrial base and labor pool is far more valuable than avoiding occasional bad weather.
>>13077078iirc Navy uses Guam for their space shit cause it's even further south
>>13076424Or a city, or a town, or....East of Florida is just the Bahamas, and nobody fucking cares about them.
>>13076238Space program stuff was relocated to the south so Johnson could placate them with jobs and industry in exchange for the civil rights act
>>13076532Then we'd have the same problem as the euros having to schlep all their stuff across the ocean instead of cheap rail and intercosal waterway transport to florida, which is actually a really good launch site.
>>13076238you want to be as close to equator as possible (for orbital mechanics reasons)so that's either Florida or right by the Mexican border
