When the singularity happens, isn't a swift death of mankind actually one of the least shitty outcomes?

Either we merge with the AI or the AI simply wipes us out, either way it would be the end of humanity as we know it. The alternatives are either a white noise "utopia", or a complete dystopian hellscape where a few human individuals control the world and everyone else is left in the gutter.
