>What is a quest?
An interactive story in which the QM (Quest Master, Quester Molester, Queer Masochist) writes and provides the readers with options on how to proceed. Dice may or may not be included due to on-site functionality.

>QM Question:
>What are some moments that your player's decisions have shocked you, positively or negatively?
I've run mine for quite a long time, and my players aren't often too chaotic with write ins, so I'd have to one of these days just go through it all and try not to die when reading my old writing and wondering what I was doing with certain plot points. A notable one though is where I put a side character in player control, and they ended up badly wounding one of the MC's people. This eventuality had been prepared for, since a piece of equipment brought along was a healing artifact. Only they didn't stick around to end up using it, rather than leaving as to not take risks in being caught or trapped. It wouldn't be out of character for somebody otherwise uninvolved, but this singular decision ended up having...very significant knock on effects down the road.

The other one isn't shocking per se but when time came to have to sacrifice a portion of the MC's psyche, there was a free option to nuke their relationship with their fiancee. Nobody went for it, even though I figured the romantic interest debate was still alive.

>Player Question:
>How much or crunch (dice rolls, stats, etc) is too much for you too handle?
If it requires me to break out a calculator, it's too much, but I'd say the average player really doesn't want to think much about the crunch besides getting to the intent of what they want to do. Mechanically speaking, the less a player in a quest has to do, the better. A lot of people only sign up for the role play part, not mechanical optimization. The ability of a player base to exploit mechanics is...a toss up. See Court of Swords. Though that audience comes from a narrative base- in my own skirmish, people brought out stuff that I really didn't expect them to, including stuff that I found out really needs a rebalance.

>General Question:
>How do you feel about the future of the board and what have you done to try and improve it?
It's hard to speak for the board as a collective whole, because each quest has a different audience and a lot of said audience doesn't intersect. Some quests get a ton of participation, others don't, and player osmosis doesn't happen a lot since people are there for that quest, or a couple quests, not all of them.
This sort of thing is just intrinsic to the design of the place. The only way to address it I think is to encourage more interaction between quests and QMs and their players, and there's a few potential ways to do that. As things stand now, I'd say there isn't an overall quest community at all besides what is reflected in the general, which...isn't ideal. Mods can be pretty soft on some meta threads depending on their content potential, and considering how slow moving the board already is, it couldn't be a bad thing to have more activities outside the general.

Wasn't there for the vote, but healing Hilda would have made her suspect in that assassination plot.

One thing I've come to realize is that the anons are collectively retarded.

No Mr. 1 post ID you are not retarded.
Neither are (You) retarded, guy who will inevitably reply.

But when you take the aggregate decisions of multiple people with slightly differing opinions on what the MC should do combined with the fact that not everybody may necessarily be present to affect certain votes...

Anon is completely retarded.

>What are some moments that your player's decisions have shocked you, positively or negatively?
In the very first quest I ran, my players decided that wine and exotic prostitutes were one of their expedition to a new continent to form a brand new society. It shaped the local economy and social dynamics quite a bit upon the time of their arrival.

>How much or crunch (dice rolls, stats, etc) is too much for you too handle?
The nature of quests as being poorly and primitively formatted and organized by dint of 4chan's antiquated limitations (unless you're willing to put in a LOT of work with formatting a character sheet, a wiki, several pastebins, etc.) means I keep it simple. Multiple d20s rolled, with stat increases coming in the form of more dice to roll, and dynamic/flexible DCs. A very small smattering of unique equipment and abilities with distinct effects and contextual bonuses. That's all I need.

>How do you feel about the future of the board and what have you done to try and improve it?
I feel like it's doomed, in the end. 4chan is really behind-the-times in terms of design and technology as a forum/social media platform, and increasingly niche and stigmatized as a website, while /qst/ is niche and stigmatized even within THIS limited sphere. It's tough to get even my most terminally-online friends to brave a deviant, stigmatized space full of hostile trolls, just to play-by-post a CYOA with strangers on a poorly-formatted messageboard.

>How do you imagine your favorite quest character to relax on a slow summer day?
Surprisingly tough t choose a favourite /qst/ character... Jezyrene would probably shy away from the sun and hiss Drow curses at it, then get scammed into buying a stylish sunhat and shades by a certain gnome. Azalea would have a spontaneous hot-girl-summer and probably petition for a beach day vacation courtesy of Mr. Popo's taxi service. Reynauld, Paracelsus and the klan are vacationing for the summer in fantasy-Scotland (I think?) this year, it seems.
>>

>The other one isn't shocking per se but when time came to have to sacrifice a portion of the MC's psyche, there was a free option to nuke their relationship with their fiancee. Nobody went for it, even though I figured the romantic interest debate was still alive.

Which quest was that?
>>
>>5672100
>What are some moments that your player's decisions have shocked you, positively or negatively?
Was running a quest where a waifu character was practically throwing themselves at the MC. A significant amount of the player base seemed to like said character and wanted the MC to get with her. In universe several other characters gave heavy hints on what actions the MC would have to take in order to get the relationship going.

Anons fucked it up and got friend zoned.

>How much or crunch (dice rolls, stats, etc) is too much for you too handle?
Hard to draw an exact line. Stats and mechanics can serve as a useful framework for conflict resolution but generally if I find myself chasing stat modifiers over choosing the narrative choices I actually want then the mechanics are probably too heavy. Also resource spending. If the QM says: you have $X, here's a list of stuff you can buy and then leaves the players to vote on it then I'm severely turned off.

>How do you feel about the future of the board and what have you done to try and improve it?
My attitude is: "If you build it, they will come." Despite all the pessimistic prognostications of the qtg several quests continue to draw a decent audience.

For me personally: I run what I want to run and as long as I get even a handful of replies then I'll keep running.

If /qst ever truly dies then there are other places I can go to run. Until then, I remain here.

>>5672236
Pretty sure it was Panzer Commander. The MC was brain washed to make him fearless in battle but this also left him open to mind control.

Anons voted to remove the conditioning despite warnings of severe losses in mental capability. During the de-conditioning process they had to vote on what the MC would LOSE.

I thought it was pretty clever since during the first choice it wasn't obvious that this was what was going on, but even after that anons consistently voted for the MC to sacrifice his combat abilities rather than his morals or personal connections.

>>
>>5672291
There are 3 ways a quest ends:
1. QM abandoning the quest (common)
2. The quest reaching its conclusion (rare)
3. The QM consistently being such a massive fucktard that nobody wants to play his quest anymore. iirc this only happened once in the history of /qst/. Seriously, being a worse human being than some of the successful QMs here is an extremely difficult feat

>How do you imagine your favorite quest character to relax on a slow summer day?
Lounging with lemon tea and books, probably. Definitely wouldn't be sitting near a campfire come night.

>>5672169
>Wasn't there for the vote, but healing X would have made her suspect in that assassination plot.
That's a fair conclusion, though honestly, everything with her is...a contentious topic. Not so much now, but then and for some time after, definitely.

>>5672236
As >>5672242 says it's Panzer Commander Quest, and the situation he describes. Currently on hiatus because side skirmish/stories being run.

>>5672291
It depends on how sporadically you go with. Once a week is probably too slow- every few days might be fine. I don't think weekend sessions can work unless you manage to snag a bunch of people to do so with, but it's not out of the picture. If you start a session on the weekend and draw in players first, then they'll at least be present for any announcement of delay, but I can't say for sure since I usually went with one or two updates a day last I ran.
>>
>>5672291
I would assume that a quest is on the verge of death if it only updated on weekends (assuming that's 1x update per weekend day). In my experience, a semi-frequent update schedule is just as important for the QM as it is for the players. Weekend sessions might be okay if they're well-advertised.
>>
>>5672291
Just do what works for you as long as that helps keep the quest going and people are engaging. Don't be baited by people telling you "you need to update X times a week or it's a sign that your quest is dying."
I swear some people here like smugly predicting a quest's demise more than they like supporting new QMs.
Certainly doesn't help the board's population.
>>
>>5672291
you can update whenever, just make sure your players are aware its a weekend only game. communicating with your playerbase is important.

Hey /qst/, /tg/ here.

A couple weeks ago, someone from here posted on /tg/ looking to recruit people to bring more activity to this board. To cut a long story short, I've been thinking about that thread a lot and have been feeling really nostalgic for "the good old days" recently, so I thought I'd check this place out. But it's been a long time since I did anything quest related. Is there anything I should be aware of regarding like... general posting etiquette that's changed in the past 7+ years?

Also this might be foolish of me, but I was kinda thinking I might try my hand at running a quest myself. Any advice before I do that lol? Do people still do quests with dice or are they all freeform these days?
>>
>>5672329
>Do people still do quests with dice or are they all freeform these days?
dice are still a thing yeah.

basic etiquette as a player is don't be a shitposting dick. as for running a game, communicate with your players. let them know how often you plan to update/when, and if you have to disappear for a week let them know in advance. as to how much or how often you update, that's up to you. so long as the players know what to expect you can post once a week and still get an audience.
>>
>>5672329
I would lurk moar and read/vote in some modern quests before you try running your own, because best practices have changed a lot since /tg/. (Most notably, the majority of quests do longer updates 1x a day, not sessions of short posts like way back when. We don't usually get the traffic for sessions anymore.)

Most quests still use dice in some form, though either way works. Player etiquette is still the same. Welcome back!
>>
>>5672273

>>
>>5672332
>so long as the players know what to expect you can post once a week and still get an audience

>>5672336

Souv is our local schizo. He is a mix of incredibly deep culture, knowledge of tropes and retarded autism making him a cultural landmark.
When first confronted to Souvposting, one usually go through the phasis of wonder. What is that wall of text? What does it mean? Why did somebody wrote that? Does that anon need his med or did I learned something through convoluted writing that may or may not involve BDSM fetish?
Wonder slowly turns into annoyance, either at his inability to stay on topic on more than 3 sentences, his occasional wall of texts or "experimental" quests.
Annoyance turns into hatred. Until you realize the guy is completely chill and seems a genuinely wonderful human being.
Then, comes acceptance. For the better or the worst, he's one of us. The embodiment of our inner autistic child that we all share here. He's a personification of a better shard of us than Wuxian.

>>5672329
>Is there anything I should be aware of regarding like... general posting etiquette that's changed in the past 7+ years?
I would say they've been constants since then, but we'll roll it into-
>I was kinda thinking I might try my hand at running a quest myself. Any advice before I do that lol? Do people still do quests with dice or are they all freeform these days?
Summarized as a list-
1. Make sure you have the time to invest and the interest in what you're running to keep it going for what can easily be months- if you don't like the idea enough to make it a long term deal, don't run it. Even a one-shot these days can take a month.
2. Don't write any vote or write-in you don't want to. You're the Quest Master, you have unlimited Veto power. You don't have to cave to something stupid or impossible. That said-
3. Respect your players. They're the ones that keep your quest from becoming a schizophrenic conversation with yourself or a web novel. If you treat them well, they'll treat you well, and if you don't, they'll fuck off. You don't need that these days. Once upon a time a QM called Somnius managed to piss off his playerbase repeatedly until none of them wanted him to come here anymore.
4. Communicate. This ties into 3, but if you vanish without a word, people won't like that, they'll assume you're dead, et cetera. Reputation means a lot when you're trying to cultivate an audience. If something's up, something's wrong, or you want to change something, say so.
Finally-
5. Don't fuck with other quests. This is the unspoken rule that ought not to have to be said. There's a lot of ways somebody can fuck with a quest, and what keeps us going in spite of that is that most people realize that there's absolutely no need to shit in anybody else's pond in this place where everybody can have their own pool. You keep the shitposting and bitching to /qtg/, and don't fuck with people's quests, period.

This is all extremely basic, but you might be surprised how many people miss just the basic first steps and die out. As for mechanics, yes, Quests still use dice, and the most common "mechanic" is a simple Best of 3 roll-off. Variations exist, but generally speaking, mechanical complexity is best handled on the QM side rather than making people memorize rules, at least when it comes to primarily narrative quests.
>>
>>5672329

Run your quest, anon!
>>
I'm currently running a Quest, and was for quite a long time - the thread is far away from the main page. Similarly, I'm at the perfect time to start a new thread (end of the in-quest day) and I have a problem with making a new thread...

To be exact, I don't know what to include for the start. My quest has a lot of mechanics and a characters all offering the MC important ways of handling her(his~?) plans of escaping. I want to invite new players into the story, but I'm afraid of info dumping and scaring potential new players away.

My question is: how can I start a new thread to make it appealing to new people, and not just keep the veterans?

Thanks~!

I have a chunky sala oriented combat system for it that I hope is fast and fun. Maybe the Flailer will grow as a person and become a stronger gladiator. Maybe he'll suffer a painful death at the claws of an alien beast. Maybe he'll only be another stepping stone under the leg equivalent of a rising champion. Find out now, in Alien Arena Flailer Quest!

Seventh of Twelve (Lagneia) has reached her second adulthood and has promised to bring the realms of Humes, Stouts, and the Children of Yggdrasil together again as they were in the age of the Dragon Kings. She will use her body if she must (in fact, yes please), and was a bit of a problem child in her youth, but her heart is in the right place. A bee has joined her in her journey as her familiar, seeking to return memories her halide has gathered to the World of Tree (through which gathered memories flow, carried by the bees).

In the background, there is the Blight, the memory devouring fungal growth created by the primordial chaos to bring death to the World Tree. It devoured the continent to the north, which now is considered a wasteland, cut off from the nine lands whose roots are touched by Yggdrasil. There are also the machinations of the Golden Intellect in the background, an Ancient Elf once seated as one of the Eldest of Lagneia's home, who is not malevolent as much as pursuing knowledge without a care for ethics or human rights. Additionally, whispers of the Divine Spears, one of which Lagneia now possesses (the Lust Spear, bequeathed to her by its former wielder, a diplomat and mistress of the last Dragon King).

Most immediately, however, byzantine politics and a noble hiring a mercenary who makes a habit of brutalized men he finds cute until they "admit" they are women and join his harem. When my workload lightens up in mid to late June, I'll be returning to run it.

(Until then, yes, I am playing the Labyrinth Quest, and I think the Big Tiddy foxgirl is cute tbqh)

For CSFD it ended with the MC's death, after I clearly announced that the MC would die if you fight and fail the rolls. My preference is short form or at least less committed quests, just for fun and not too serious. But now that threads last like 40+ days on average, I've had an aversion to running because of this duration and necessary commitment. People meme about real life here, but while at any given moment I could usually spare a week for a quest, it's not easy to spare a month+ of focus.

So in the past it was like, "Eh, I have some free time at the moment, I'll make a quest!" but now it's more, "Erm... I'd like to make a quest now but really shouldn't, I'll have the free time in a month or two."

?
The mercenary is question is a piece of human trash. The tyranny harem dude is expressly evil, and is modeled after the triumphalism used by the Ottomans to demoralize the lands formerly held by Byzantium. Taking the sons of a village and bringing them back as (often castrated) dancing "girls" to rub it in the people's face that they've been conquered. While my take is definitely fetishized, it was that way in real life as well.

The slave boys taking from Western Europe and force feminized by the Ottomons were so popular as dancers and "mistresses" among those boy lovers that the guilds of female dancers organized attempts at assassinating particularly popular dancing boys.

But the TLDR is thay Mr. Forced Feminization is an out and out villain and will likely be killed at some point.

>>
>>5672824

>>
>>5672838
Humans are not like honey badgers. In order to truly hate, first the human soul must care. The character can be given any reason for anything, it is usually divorced from initial player feelings and takes time to set in. On /qst/ players will go along with whatever seems in character first, unless it's waifus or powersets, then they'll toss their own hats into the ring. Players usually have to like the character first to hate what opposes them through the MC, but not always.

Then players have to be given time to get attached to things, places and people they've spoken up about and said they like, and their immersion has to be decent. Players have to be involved in seeing value to their attachments, to know how best to do that DM 20,000 hours and rely on that experience.

Torture, conquest, slavery, and rape are the go-to fantasy staples of the bog standard "enemy" race. The race should encompass qualities the MC will never find negotiable, ignorable, or irrelevant to their own views. Of course, it can't hurt to be a little more creative than those. The more specific you get the more likely it will be seen as you inserting your fetishes. If you must, it's a good idea to insert multiple fetishes, that way the excess acts like proxy fetishes to guard against them knowing your one true love is the cinnamon sweet heat of an apple pie.

Optimally, the players are able to form their own goals independent of the world or QM given purpose. That too takes time. Providing chances to reward that agency to the natural directions the MC desires is simple and easy. First, read 52m words worth of archived quests to figure it out. Or just trust your social instincts and writing gut. Write them as you know what people hate, narcissism, egotistical, motherly if you have mommy issues fatherly if you've got daddy issues, etc.

Timing and presentation permitting, you'll accomplish all of that. The heat their goals, they the iron ready to be struck. The race can now stand at odds by the simple principle of player desired progression.

The gross, festering peoples whose petty emperor concubined the MCs wife and burned his children, who uses thousands of mana crystals to teleport his royal orc/dragon/prissy elf/ascended ancient/revealed to be the same race as the MC but MC never knew about/actual creator of the MC/mechalich/ piss into the MCs coffee every morning. With the enemies, all of that one race, having gained the goal of stopping whatever the players decide is fun. Should write itself after that.

When a DM wants to have all of this at the start, they can "boat" the enemy, or boat the players somewhere else, and keep that race as background until it's time to drop dragons on their head.

>This reply was generated by ChatGPT4, edited to include more piss.

>>5672824
>What's that best way to make your players want to genocide the bad guys race?
Place them into the same mindset as an actual person who is part of a deeply adversarial racial conflict. Their only interactions with said race are negative, their leaders and supporters openly attack their own social or racial group, any interaction with them they show contempt for the player on the basis of their cultural identity. The idea of letting bygones be bygones, or peaceful resolution, is seen by them as an impossible, or worse, humiliating option. In effect, it's either them or you. You can't really make people think that genocide was the desirable option- you have to present it, at least as far as the characters are told, as the only option, a regrettable outcome, but a better future was impossible without that drastic step.

Otherwise people will see something as conclusive as genocide as wasteful and a serious overreach, senseless destruction for the sake of itself. It's all a moot point if players don't want to do it, though. If it's abstracted from themselves and the player character, they can just view it as numbers and politics. So a way to amp it up is to make it personal. Make it hurt. There's nothing that stokes the flames of violence and hostility quite like a need for vengeance, for justice.

I like to set things in the context of examples, so let's do that. Let's say the player character is a member of a squad of garrison troops. Volunteers, not particularly disciplined, part of a country called Ilias, occupying another land called Rhem. The names are just funny mouth sounds, don't think about them, they're not the point. As far as the squad knows, they came to keep the peace and help the needy as the occupied country becomes part of a greater whole. The PC's childhood friend seems to be the truest believer in this cause, and the locals are cautious of the squad, but seem to accept their presence.
Then the next week, the night after what seemed to be a good day where the squad helped fix some run down cottages for the local village, their interpreter leads a band of local Rhemen insurgents over to the Iliasan squad while they sleep, cuts their throats and hangs their bodies from the trees. The PC only escapes the same fate by having gone on an unexpected outing. The villagers insist they know nothing- but that claim is incredibly suspect.

After having their trust in this other race burned so hard, would players keep the same mindset they had before? Maybe, it depends on how the story's gone and what other things happened, details on what happened and why, but even suspicions of betrayals are some of the most effective ways both historically and in fiction to make people hate like crazy.

Makes them pathetic in some contemptible way, dangerous if left to their own devices, ungrateful in the face of mercy or altruism, and broadly unattractive. Bonus points if your Nazi-sympathetic players can easily headcanon them as evil joos somehow. See Supreme Space Monke Ruler for more advice, as players (albeit with a fair amount of samefagging) repeatedly voted to genocide, humiliate, enslave, betray, and prevent even the slightest redemption of a race of big-nosed hermphroditic capitalist space bugs.

Fundamentally, a lot of players are just here for particular QMs and quests. They can't be blamed really when you have low effort spam and high effort flakes. Only freaks enjoy a bowl of spam and flakes.

Most likely explanation
>>
>>5673389
>>5673392
A plausible explanation, but a true troll or even many lesser trolls only have a political affiliation insofar as it aids trolling.

Though, it must be a stupid or more likely low effort one, since anti-trans/crossdressing sentiment blossoms quite naturally all on its own by mere proximity. (Hilariously on this site, crossdressers were more well received before becoming approved by corpos and governments)

Like the furry hate of days of yore, or the events that led to the still present ban on a particular brand of cartoon equines, it is not from others that dislike and even hatred grows.

As in most things, people have nobody to truly blame other than themselves. Regular ordinary people don't get the following a lolcow gets after all.

But I've strayed quite a bit from quests in this monologue.

For the record, for the pro-trans/etc... Trolls have a few low effort shitposts for you too.

Having a dedicated troll play your quest normally might be a more gratifying feat than drawing out lurkers, come to think of it.

Trolls after all, are humans who crave entertainment, well the ones that aren't doing it because they're butthurt themselves that is.

Took a casual glance at the catalogue and really it isn't as bad as all that. A few too many legit quests abandoned if anything.

What a hilariously naive way of looking at the world, but ok.
>>
>>5673458
Yet, people always have a reason. It might be justified or a phantom, from within or without, a figleaf for a desire or a trauma.

Even the flimsiest of reasons is still there. It is not naive to believe in cause and effect rather than believing that things happen 'just because'.

Sometimes that 'something' that people do to be hated is exhibitionism in a children's playpark, sometimes that 'something' is whistleblowing and rocking the boat, disturbing people's nice fat bribes. Sometimes that 'something' is your eyes being a bit too close together or too far apart. Sometimes its because the guy is a tiny little man always picking fights because he can't handle being a manlet. Varied and endless are the reasons, petty and grand.

If anyone is naive, it is you who thinks that hatred is a magic mind plague that just randomly appears in people's heads.

Having at least a little grasp on cause and effect helps with writing you know.

Well, there was the time that players decided to put the PC of the Quest in mortal danger for a small bonus to a complicated series of rolls on an OPTIONAL challenge, then failed on the very first one of those rolls, needlessly ending the quest.

Truth. There are also those with an inborn or learned proclivity to simply hate as avdefault response to novelty, I think. Caution of the unknown or usual and a preference for the familiar can quickly morph into disgust and loathing. There's a still a reason there, just not always a clear or rational one.

Is it the truism convention? Are we really mudding up the word 'reason' to the point it's meaningless? Please, let's not fall into undergrad level philosophy here. We use words for reasons and using them like this is counterproductive.

Is it true we have reasons for everything? Probably.
Is there any use in saying X has a reason to hate Y where the reason is something banal, simply because it's a 'reason'? I disagree.

Let's not dig ourselves a hole out of meaningless words. Are you logically consistent? Probably. Does language work like that? Almost certainly, No.

Don't dig deeper than life allows, so far you are constrained to life. Says philosophy shill.

Kind words, anon, but I’m still just a poor facsimile of the real deal. In two months I’ve learned a lot (I now know Deucalion from Deiphobos), but I have a long way to go.

Also, I’m confident I’ve solved half of the “divine grandpa” mystery but can’t work out why Nikon and Nira have gold-flecked eyes but their parents didn’t. Can’t help but feel that we simply never got the requisite information needed to figure it out.

Neuropsychology has observed enough circumstances to achieve the highly enlightened consensus that hatred is mostly an aggression ticker being fed by multiple sources at reinforcing habitual intervals. Then natural element to it exists in genetic propensities, lead poisoning factors acknowledged to minify statistical drift. Simplifying the neurgarbogook, when the ticker of the behavior hits a chemical breakpoint and reinforces itself by habit it's reasonably different enough from natural aggression. Taking the soul out if it, the brain's exchanging its chemical energy for the benefits of satiety and reassurance and to effectively prepare itself for battle. Notably, those don't universally serve gaining pleasure, or necessarily safety.

To the brain the opposite of hatred isn't love, it's starvation, indecision, and loss. B^U. Being trapped, being attacked, threatened survival, threatened autonomy, they're not mere perceptions to the brain, they're active-reactive stimulus that has to be identified, met, and dealt with. Much like how lurkers with certain SME knowledge of a subject will not queue themselves into it, evasion works too. Hatred can then "be said" to act more like a habit formed cure, with its feedback loop being applied to succeed in meeting that definition on the short term. Which sounds funny when compared to what people talk about in conventional terms. That's just the base level though, it gets much more complex when the brain is doing more than self motivating its survival instincts, which if you're alive means most of the time.

Source matters and it doesn't, the spectrum of primal (survival mechanisms) mixed with higher thought, bounced through individual personal experiences (say, a near drowning creating thalassiaphobia, which can go beyond its origin fear and become a genuine hatred of the sea) and more "naturally" apparent origins in defense mechanisms. Such as spiders, seeing the deformed/diseased, the uncanny valley, someone or something hitting your forehead and triggering the rage defense that exists specifically under that part of the skull in mostly that area (which strangely does not exist for, say, getting your arm ulnar nerves hit [for most people]), and more. There is something like "natural" hatred, but how granular you want to be to get at what's all carried by largely the same mechanisms is a matter of taste and not science. A baby can be born with a predisposition to hatred by genetics, not so different than a liability to specific addictions, because it's just one of dozens of functional behaviors carried by genetics in the first place. One that our mammal origins has determined to be useful.
>>
>>5673642
If you want a philosophical spin, should you wanna determine what a natural or non-societally dependent hatred is, it's fairly irrelevant to the practical human condition. Everyone is born with the map to the treasure, some have been given, by chance or natal heavy metal blessing, more of that map than others, and they will find their way easier. Is the map hatred? Is the treasure hatred? Is the journey there, hatred? Is it all of it, none of it, or a specific constituent chem/gene we can point our dicks at and say "we gottem boys!"? Who holds the soup in this metaphor? Hint: It's not Kojima. Personally, I think It's peanut butter.

It's one of too many kinds of things that due to the way we define things in general, in English particularly, that makes its basic details infinitely rearguable without specialized terms, lens limits, and defined goals. So what's the right take away? That's right, humanity is capable of unlimited hatred. Is this relevant? Nope. Your time has been wasted. Should've played quests instead. That's what you get for reading text walls in the QTG.

tldr: Goat cum creates a different texture in waffle mixes than traditional protein powders. It's hard to decide what's better. Flavor actually doesn't change much. I've determined the expense to be woefully insufficient to the result.

> QM Question
I once ran a quest in a haunted spaceship, and because of some time fuckery the MC ended up on the ship before the evil fuckery had started. They met the ship's psychologist, who I only intended to serve as exposition and show how before the Event the ship was perfectly normal.

Then the players decided to sit down and have a session with him. "So, doctor, I've been seeing weird things that I don't know how to explain," and etc. It was completely unexpected.

Don't get me wrong, if you are seeing monsters and think you're travelling through time, seeking professional help is exactly the right choice, it just never crossed my mind they'd do that.
>>
>>5673563
This isn't the place to get into the weeds of it, but when I tackle this subject in quests I do so in the same way I do in real life to some extent: if there is a reason for an animosity -- even a banal one, a basal-instinctive one, or an irrational or unreaosnable one, there is a lever you can manipulate to repair the relationship. It's not always worth it, but it's possible. If a hate was really utterly fixed and random, it makes it hard to impossible to remedy except through destruction, and it makes people and events far more difficult to understand.
>>
>>5673746
People like tomboys plenty, and FtM crossdressers and trans people (or whatever you'd classify a forcibly masculinized person as) tend to garner more sympathy and less suspicion and aggression than MtF.

I'm pretty new to this whole /qst/ thing, only did one or two abandoned threads in the past because I didn't plan anything at all.

Set a goal for them. Doesn't have to last until the end, just something to motivate and get them interacting with the world.
Having some ideas for later is nice but you also need to think on you're feet, the longer it goes for the higher your players will do something unexpected.

Please do. I love fucking around with dice curves and mechanics. TTRPG mechanics have essentially been my hobby for the past 10 years so I have a lot of experience with them- the trick isn't getting a lot of mechanics to work together, that's easy, the trick is to get one mechanic to do everything and it still works, that's the fun part.

I do hope we can have some good discussion on mechanics on /qst/ every once in a while because people talk way too much about politics or God forbid, waifu sex, instead of actual GAMES
>>
>>5673855
Politics and waifu sex are 90% of games though. Mechanics are just one of many tools to guide the writing.
>>
>>5672448
I am a chick and have been operating as a male for as long as I’ve been on /qst/.
Not on purpose, no one ever asked, and I’m in too deep to ever out myself.

I gave my readers enough hints that I thought they’d be tipped off at some point, but I guess I’m too autistic for anyone to see past my magnificent ruse.

But there’s no way in hell I’ll out myself of my own volition. Being a femoid on /qst/ is a recipe for you or your quest to get fucked with somehow.

And yet… the pressure of maintaining the masculine guise remains overbearing.

>How do you feel about the future of the board and what have you done to try and improve it?

Honestly this board should just die already, nearly half the board is threads below a hundred posts and about a third to half of the board has threads that haven't had a update in three days or more and mostly consist of less than a hundred post threads.
>>
>>5673871
>I gave my readers enough hints
Typical woman.
>>
>>5673859
The three pillars of my quests are:

1. Political manoeuvring
2. Combat/assassination
3. Love and sex

So at least a solid 66% politics and waifu sex, can confirm.

Friendship and succession-planning are in there, too, but probably fall under the auspices of the other categories

>>5673871
If you accidentally established yourself as masculine, why is it now overbearing to just keep posting as you used to? Shit, the people who try to troll me here still think I'm a Jew who got Blacked, and they'll probably, hilariously, continue to assume that forever simply because I never dump more biographical info than I feel like.

It’s just tiresome to keep policing how autistic I have to behave and talk in order to maintain the guise for as long as I have. Still, there are more benefits to remaining a man rather than a woman on any board (even in spite of the scant femQMs that exist). Niggers like >5673880 who would chomp at the bit to make some lame sexist jokes don’t really make the idea of being a femQM very appealing at all. Not a feminist— it’s just tiresome after the 50th “lol woman” joke.

I’m probably just going to stop giving a fuck soon or later and just let the cards fall where they may.

how is this place for running quests?
>>
>>5673888
Life as refrain is tiresome, certainly. More in pretend. Allocating mental resources to 2-3 aggravations in expectations in unison evenly runs a high tab for the fragile sakes its governed by. Ignoring the dumb niggers making lame sexist jokes has its limits, eventually you make versions your own and stop caring about anything or anyone. Trolling, at least, will remain for anyone putting themselves out there for the anti-social to attach themselves to. True whether man, woman, or donkey.

It has its moments. I appreciate the ease of hopping into it, the bare bones nature, the (relative) lack of ego which comes with the widespread anonymity, and the lax moderation allowing me to explore themes that would get people looking at me sideways in other spaces. The occasional trolls and raiders put me off. You have to take anti-fraud measures if you're running anything semi-serious and popular. The neonazis are sometimes frustrating, but to be expected.

I sometimes wonder if I'd stick around if it weren't for the nostalgia, but my best (?) and certainly longest work of continuous writing took place here. I'll probably never leave /qst/ for good until it dies, but I'm often tempted to try other forums as well.
>>
>>5673893
Usually no. This site is better given to updating once or twice a day than in rapid sessions.

> Literally has problems with sexism and disadvantageous social myths.
> Says n-words and isn't a feminist.
???

If you want stuff to get better, why tf are you normalsing behavior that bites our hands? I don't want to get political, but this is counterproductive and straight up makes things worse.

...It also of reeks insecurity and desire to belong to a crappy people; and that speaks volumes how you perceive us. Fair, but: No need to sell yourself to such a cheap god. There is no shame to admitting to supporting feminism when it's obviously needed. Similarly, from my - arguably medictore - experience here, people are on the progressive side and tend to listen to requests. Hell, even trolls over here tend to be more tender, possibly due to low general support... Saying n-words only emboldens them.

Also, don't listen to those who say it's not relevant. If you want to be known, it's relevant in by itself.

I think it depends on the subject matter and character focus. Honestly, they tend to be more enjoyable than those straying from it whenever the QM is honing in on their desired presentation.

I am also a femQM. I see no point in constructing some kind of elaborate ruse-- if you're a regular 4chan user you're malebrained enough already to skate by, and I have no idea why you'd tell your players about your personal life regardless of gender. Just chill out and run your damn quest.

>>
>>5673899
Speak for yourself. I will never ever play a quest run by a femoid. If a femoid votes on my quest, I abandon the quest within milliseconds.

But yeah seriously I can't see how gender would even come up in QMing. Most players care about the quest way more than the QM's life.
>>
>>5673900
I would even risk saying being plot driven is necessary. Assuming that choises are present, and it's not just a fanfiction of course.

Imo the best quests should always orbit around their story (and especially around it's characters), with choices always somehow pushing things forward, or contextualisng the greater whole.

In my personal option Questing is as much about community as it's about the words themselves. And...

>Most players care about the quest way more than the QM's life.
...That's indeed true, but the QM wants to be recognized in their work too. When the 'norm' is that everyone is male it creates a barrier between girlQMs and their works. It's alienating. To men it could be petty, but it's really just wanting to be on equal footing with others, who are in a way represented be the norm.

I honestly just got a little heated and let impulse get the better of me. That was literally the first n-bomb I’ve ever thrown on this board. I don’t tend to use that word often and hate using it most of the time, but I see how that could embolden trolls.

I believe men and women have their own roles in the world. Each has only something that they can do in the sense that one compliments the other.

What I hate is the idea that one sex is somehow better or worse than the other, since I have had a lot of men in my life tell me what I could and could not do. That certain accomplishments were only possible as a result of women being good at clerical tasks and whatnot. And That women are only good for bearing children and are property of the man (these people think that unironically. I should note that they are worse off than I am and are total losers.)

So the internet is an escape in a sense.

It might influence how a FeMC is written, though I'm not sure that's foolproof. I know women who write their OCs and PCs as unstable ogle-ready sexpots with big bazongas, and men who write women with depth, nuance, and little to no sexualization. Still, I have trouble imaging a woman writing SOME of the thirstier and more stereotypical quests in the catalogue, nd I have to assume MOST women would write a lady better than I tend to.

It varies a lot between women how painful and bloody it is. I have moderate bleeding, but some months the cramping is so bad I literally can't stand up. I assume it's similar to being kicked in the balls, except it can go on for 1-2 hours before the Advil kicks in.

Like how 2/3rds of royal road authors think they're being subtle when they hide their profile gender but the work they write involves characters actually showing more than one emotion per chapter without falling apart into cringe. OR, none at all but aaanger and lance harddick energy for multiple chapters. Not all that hidden, buckos!

Not as relevant, and skill can mask it in either direction, but geeze there are some creators who really think they can fool experience forever. Like they're missing their own perception checks when they review their work. I remember when Itagaki Paru had an interview where, prior to their relative success, they'd tried to pretend to be a male mangaka as part of distancing themselves from their fathers admittedly massive influence. And while people didn't know they weren't related originally, she was somehow impressed that everyone knew she was a woman before any reveals at all. What was she write/arting at the time? Beastars. Like, fuck me. How did you think this, are you anime-tier oblivious? It'd be adorable if it weren't so concerning.

Yet it's quite common, there are similar establishments of a healthy writer & reader distance for numerous reasons. And, you know, closeness to an audience isn't necessarily good for everyone. Aloof can be good, at best even energizing. But still, ya know? Still. Using Beauty and the Beast as a relationship diagram for more than three characters... really gives it away now matter what kind of creator they are. I forgot why I replied.

This is 5chinz, a hub of autism. The reason anons don't want people going "look at me, I'm a girl" is because it can draw attention away from the actual writing due to the terminally online segment of users who are inclined to orbit, the propensity for chicks to seek said attention, and the leftist attitudes that come with the average f*moid mind. I doubt anyone has complaints beyond that; the quality of the qst, its characters & worldbuilding, are what is important.

As for people saying nigger, this is one of the last bastions of free speech on the internet, & when the truth is allowed to propagate, it always wins out. Hence why /pol/ is as it is. Plus if you haven't noticed, a lot of people are niggers, black or not. If a word has such power as to be forbidden to you, reassess your priorities.

Since there are FemAnons popping up here, what is your advice for writing women, besides obviously not oversexualizing them?

Leftist ideas is what created the idea of Questing in the first place. Similarly, it's such a naive post. Truth as an idea in of itself is something nobody looks for. It's all just bloodgames between teams here with no interest in any form of measurable reality. There is no academic debate with sources, it's just reassuring each other's biases. Nothing. Else.

Also, I wonder if average/qst/ user looks forward more to ideas of 'leftist' minded people or of someone who calls women 'femoids'. . .

>>5673976
The only proper answer.
>>
>>5673955
>No, I'm not telling which ones.
Well that's no fun. What if somebody's looking for high quality quest recommendations?

No. The exact metric is impossible to tell for sure because most QMs wisely decide that their biology let alone the greater details of their actual person are of no concern to their audience, but based solely on people I know, the answer for something as black and white as "exclusively" is a definitive no.

>>5673974
>what is your advice for writing women, besides obviously not oversexualizing them?
I am not in the group you asked for answers from, but you would honestly be served well just by going and talking to them or being around them. There's certain social and conversational quirks that are hard to explain without coming across as a weirdo who overanalyzes basic social patterns, but come across easier the more accustomed you are to seeing and comprehending them. Less a case of "X never does Y" and more "X says Y but in a different way than Z." It's not as easy as just saying to go look, of course- there's a reason whole books are written on how to communicate with the opposite sex, and counselors to help communication between people who ostensibly should know each other very well.

You shouldn't be afraid of sexualization, though. Sexual drive is so universal that when characters don't have any whatsoever, it sticks out as strange if there's no in-character justification (this refers to things as basic as attraction or appreciation of characteristics, not just dick bobs vagene) such as, say, they're an emotionless android, they're an ascetic that has rejected such things, whatever. The problem with oversexualizing isn't really the sexualization part, it's having nothing but that, basically having a pin-up poster instead of a character. Sometimes this is fine. A background character does not need several paragraphs of background saying why she dresses like a harlot, and the reasoning for a more significant figure can even be extremely simple or plain, but if there's nothing there but sexualization with a proper character, when the hormones fade and you have to think or consider something, if there's nothing else, there's an empty space where there ought to be somebody you know something about or care about.

No. It's been like 4 threads and I don't think I ever explicitly defined the protags gender. (My players have not caught on to this)

>>5673983
I will respond to you once politely and with good intent even though you are almost certainly baiting.

The entire reason I go to this website is because it's one the last places on the internet where you can enjoy something without too much condescension. Besides for a few autistic shitfits over things that (rightfully) don't matter at all, people here really aren't that judgy. Wanna run a cunny quest? Go ahead. Wanna put some leftist ideas in your civ? Sure. As long as the QM cares about the quest and runs it with relatively good intentions, then most players will reciprocate by engaging. If you don't like this type of content, you are also of course free to not engage.

This is the precise reason why I find posts like yours annoying. I'm not going to rehash the whole "girls on the internet" thing since it isn't strictly a gendered issue. If you go to an anonymous website fuss over the fact that people aren't noticing you for [INSERT REAL LIFE FEATURE HERE], whether that be your job, gender, educational background, or political leaning then you got the wrong website buddy. It is funny that you complain about sexism on this board when you could avoid it entirely by *not* hinting at your personal life like most other QMs seem to pull off without issue.

Most people here don't really care about leftism/rightism/feminism unless you make a concerted effort to bait it out of them. I don't care, they don't care, and not caring is probably the reason why they haven't caught on to your hints in the first place.

>chicks dig beastly guys
>guys dig the idea of being beastly
I remember reading an article about how in games like Smash Bros. or League of Legends, with big rosters and wherein a player is encouraged to "main" a smaller number of characters, most women and girls tend to play attractive female humanoids, and most men and boys tend to select... Cool/scary nonhumans, especially monsters. It's also certainly a dynamic I've observed in online roleplay communities, and I KNOW a lot of that transfered into ERP in the private chats. Maybe says something about male/female self-perception and socialization? Women subconciously seeking to be beautiful and desired, men striving to escape their humanity altogether, and to be objectified in their own way? Come to think of it, I guess "beauty and the beast" dynamics crop up in all three quests I've run here... Hm.

I'm getting dangerous Souvarine-esque in the estoric psychological speculations, here, though.

Seems unlikely. Female authors don't all write exclusively female main characters. Some of my favourite anime and manga star male MCs and are written by ladies.

>>5673976
Nope, though I'm not sure I wrote my female MC as convincingly feminine. I don't think I wrote her much dufferent from how I write her son, in spite of both her culture and the culture she was infiltrating having very distinct gender roles. I guess their race was more important in both cases. Anons steered her towards being more promiscuous, but then again her son's sexual appetites became very plot relevant as well, and his story and characetrization is arguably even MORE romance-focused.

Would that I could, but in my experience and only my experience, male MCs tend to prompt some players towards harem pursuit and/or waifu focus.

Nothing I enjoy less than writing/portraying harem stuff, and female MCs seem to avoid that possibility. It ends up just being a simple remedy for a potential recurring problem. Even waifu (or, husbando) focus seems significantly less if at all, though not that I don't mind relationship stuff (as opposed to harem shit) but the quest becoming focused on it is not the ideal.

>most women and girls tend to play attractive female humanoids, and most men and boys tend to select... Cool/scary nonhumans, especially monsters
There was a article like this? How? Isn't bias evident? 'scary monster' isn't often a class that women are socialized to do. In public consciousness we imagine female characters as 'supports' and devs design them as such. Not so much with monsters, idk why men would lean there, but my bets go to masculine expectation of being intimidating.

Is it really 'fussing'? We were talking and bringing light to the issue.

>It is funny that you complain about sexism on this board when you could avoid it entirely by *not* hinting at your personal life like most other QMs seem to pull off without issue.
Problem here is that Anon is male. When you talk with an anon, you talk with another dude. But when we interact we people we desire to be observed to some capacity - and not feel like we are being spoken past us.

Imagine yourself in a world where whenever, wherever, and however you present your individually without stating your gender you are assumed someone else.

>Most people here don't really care about leftism/rightism/feminism
It's the majority problem. Problems of a minority are often perceived as petty, as the whole structure that enables those problems to exist is simply invisible to majority. That is assuming majority even cares to listen to the issues of the minority.

...Also, let's put it into perspective. Nobody dies here, it's a question of comfort and self expression, the OG poster wanted to let go of pent up flustrations. And it's fine. That's why internet is here for. I myself also haven't made some impossible demands - at least not without justification. If you want folk that come around and say the n-word and swears you scare away potential minorites who could be more dedicated than just shits and giggles at those lower in the social hierarchy than them.
>>
>>5674000
It was a pop culture article, not like... A peer-reviewed social science article. But it was an interesting anecdotal observation or statistical artefact, even if it doesn't prove anything. It does line up with my experiences, though. In roleplay circles, most women I've played with for years tebd to have mostly female characters with the exceptions to that rule having come out as nonbinary or trans since while a lot of men have played males of a monstrous/inhuman bent as often as conventional men (with the only motable exception being a guy who plays almost exclusively haughty nobles and con artists, male or female).

This is what I don't understand. Anonymous image boards aren't exactly common anymore. If you want to discuss ideas or even run quests on a website where you can link more personal information to your identity, then there are (with all due respect) plenty of other places where you can fulfill this wish. The point of being an anon is to post without being observed - and to read other people's posts without having to observe them in turn. The entire reason why I thought your post is bait is because you seem to take great issue with idea of anonymous posting - on a imageboard built around being anonymous.

>If you want folk that come around and say the n-word and swears you scare away potential minorites who could be more dedicated than just shits and giggles at those lower in the social hierarchy than them.

I would wager, not without evidence, that a significant portion of the board here consists of "minorities" if you choose to use the modern American definition. I don't think that lack of minorities is the reason why this board is slowing down - and the "punching down" you mention probably isn't what's driving them away. As other posters have mentioned in like probably dozens of threads, we're on a niche forum on a website burdened a huge amount of questionable reputation. Even if you can get anons here to stop dropping slurs left and right, I doubt that it will make much impact on the status of the board.

I'm pretty sure we kinda blew the problem out of proportion here. We probably agree on most things, and girls like it here. It's just a small issue that stems from the fact that 'anon' is 'by default' male here, hence some can feel like they are being spoken past.

Same thing happens to men in /u/ Yuri board. Men going out of the way to indenify themselves as such in discussion threads. It's just a small human thing.

>"punching down" you mention probably isn't what's driving them away
Sure, I can concede that. There is a large filter of who is going to find themselves here, and those that do care little. Hell, my issue with it is more along the lines that those who, from my experience, say such things also make poor players for quests meanwhile potentially sabotaging those more creative individuals.

Is it really? From what I recall, LoL nowadays is focusing on "pretty boy" and "sexy girl" archetypes of different flavor, since that's what sells to women and men respectively. Plenty of gripes from players that want more variety in characters.

everybody uses adblock
what people should be able to do is tag their quests with related boards and have them show up in that board's catalog (without taking up one of that board's thread slots)
like if you run an anime quest and tag it /a/, it shows up so /a/nons can see it. tag it /v/, /v/irgins can see it, etc
could be an option in the settings to hide /qst/ threads so anyone who really doesn't like them just doesn't see them.
imagedump boards like /e/ could also benefit from this

I am not sure what to call this aesthetic. It is a sort of bright clean synthetic saturated colour cyberpunk (not the raining / mist neon light bloom lens flare look, which is more Blade Runner / film noir inspired, though it can incorporate it) It also often emphasises corporate themes, corporate logos advertising etc. The look might be inspired by sponsorship or Formula 1 / motor racing, performance athletics, sports etc. The games I can think of that manifest this look include Wipeout the futuristic racer game, Mirror's Edge and also it seems this new Bungie Marathon reboot trailer.

Actually, I had this idea, but in a roundabout way. I thought of an immigrant, tiny kemonomini (rat)boy/girl (like the plague rat) quest in a quarantined, Plague ridden Victorian city where different social classes clash. And the players have to:

>1. Survive the prejudice and be the main bread winner for the family - moral choices whether to feed them or yourself with scarce food.

>2. Assist in fighting the plague, due to unique skills of the protagonist. (Working as a messenger between important people due to tiny size, and Doctor's assistant/part time servant to the noble Heiress... And a possible double agent.)

>3. Assist in Establishing a new social order, with brewing communists movements Being the 'main' faction due to their initial acceptance of (rat) boy as a worker first, 'rat' second. Tho I want more nuance than than that, with racist monarchists keeping effectively order and feeding people during the plague and keeping the town alive.

>4. Solve the mystery of not-exactly normal plague...

I like oppressive, political, and bleak quests full of tragedy and moral conundrums... with a dose of possible Yuri, or trap-on-trap yaoi. Does that sound interesting?

Once I finish my current quest, that's what I intend to run~

You are Oliver, pest exterminator and Husband. In the thriving cosmopolitan city of Venris, Capital of the Brush Empire. Once your future was bright, your job more than capable of providing for you, your Ratkin wife and your twenty-five children, but plague has come, and with even the royal family trapped in the city, revolution and bloodshed may too.

Under the pressure of the plague, your side of the family pressures you for divorce, on hers the Ratkin are turning to ancient, dark and monstrous practices to ensure they survive the accusations flying around. From your noble patrons come all kinds of offers inexchange for your services, or your body. All promise to preserve your family, but can any be trusted, and some offers would preserve your family's lives, but could you still be called a family after?

Yet amid the chaos of the plague, rising class and race tensions... the homeless, workers and even nobles are going missing. As vermin grow in number and ferocity, your talents are desired more and more.

There's no shortage of work to be done... but putting aside the pests, will your family survive all these plots and stirrings of obscure powers.

Just what is the plague really? Just who are the masked medicants who close whole districts and even the royals fear, and why has nobody seen the afflicted?

Will your family fall to pest or plot, Oliver of Venris, proud Brussian?

That reminds me of a small oneshot from a few years ago, and its sort-of-sequel from the COVID lockdown era. Both archived on suptg.

The Fall of a Dwarven Fortress:
The Dwarven capital will fall. That much has become certain. Outside the city, siege engines are about to breach the walls. Within the city, order is slowly breaking apart. A single dwarf must navigate the city, find enough food for his family, and a cure for his sick wife. Along the way, a gallery of characters just as trapped as he is will cross his path, searching for a way out, or simply to accomplish one more goal before they die. Who will he help? Who will help him in turn. Resources are dwindling. Choices must be made, if he, his family, and the remains of Dwarvenkind are to survive the fall.

Damn good thread.
The Quarantine of a Harbor city:
Plague has come to Venice-like City. A simple butcher with a reputation tarnished through mere association finds himself trying to survive a quarantined city. In between international relations breaking down and a thousand individual tragedies, he will need to keep an ever-shifting group of survivors together in hope of surviving until the end, to either find a way out, or wait out the plague. The City holds many secrets, and there are those who would see them burned. The simple butcher may have a role to play far more important than he realizes.

Minor spoiler as an example to why I loved the first thread:
One survivor among many is a gnome inventor. He appeared a bit crazy at first, but ends up giving the MC the cure for his wife,. Turns out he's been hopped up on sugar to weather the food shortage. The MC saves him and brings him out once he falls into a coma. The inventor's cure was for this world's equivalent of tuberculosis. He cured our wife, and by choosing to simply carry him out of his workshop and eventually away from the destruction, the MC indirectly helped with the eradication of not-tuberculosis, saving more lives than were ever lost in the siege. That inventor is mentioned at the beginning of the Quarantine threads.

So yeah, everything's been done before! It's essentially the This War of Mine formula with branching story arcs tacked on. Anons like to see what choices they could have made, and if you're still on that new game + kick by then, it's quite reusable, with potential for randomizing some character motivations.
>>
>>5674318
As for interested parties, it'd be good to have factions, but also several individuals per, give them nuance. All should be grey to give the players a real dilemma. Sure, the commies support you, but they view you as a worker, not an individual. Besides, what happens when the human unions start raising a fuss about your kind taking jobs, or being an obstacle to negotiating better deals to those in power? You will be safe until your kind are no longer useful.
The hyperconservative monarchist option could take inspiration from Victorian charities. Sure, you're subhuman, but when your family is starving and freezing, maybe you should swallow your pride and accept the handouts from self-congratulating noblewomen helping the lower classes/race? Even if some of your kind might consider you a traitor for it.
Maybe also a kinda fascist-coded option. Ratkin-led movement about embracing your own identity, that rose as a response to mistreatment but threatens to turn into a full blown supremacy movement no better than the one that started it, and may plunge the city into chaos and more than a few race riots.
And more...!
French-like republicans? (feel free to thrown in jokes about one of their npcs wanting to dress Ratkin into french maid uniforms.)
Sewer people.
Gangs of kids who might want to ally against "the big ones"?
The Heiress's family, where everyone has a different opinion of you, a manor full of opportunities, but with danger around every corner, and plenty of places for a Ratkin to just...disappear...

Add a bunch of unaffiliated individuals trying to make their way and survive, with little quests, and you basically have a Visual Novel branching paths system ready.

Maybe different protagonist options, with one being the Heiress's confident/courier leading to many people being interested in him and the doors open to him?

No matter what you decide, I'll check it out. Your current quest has convinced me you're a good QM.

>clean and sterile mall world etc
That is a good description anon, thank you! I do think malls are now retro hehe not futuristic they evoke Andy Warhol pop art consumerist ideas to me. JG Ballard is more the mall world era (I think he wrote some apocalyptic novel set in a mall) I think in-person physical retail experience is perhaps antithetical to futurism / cyberpunk

I think some people have also described it as Vectorheart, because of the abstract vector graphics bright shapes minimalist look etc. But I think Vectorheart is also a bit late 90s or Y2K infused etc. So really this fluorescent COLOURPUNK aesthetic to me feels abstract but a bit more contemporaneous. The old PSX Wipeout font though is probably a good incarnation of Vectorheart, if you ever played those games just the menu noises music and UI effects are very satisfying

If so...thank you so much for such kind Words. ;-;

I absolutely agree on the "beyond good and evil".

>Maybe different protagonist options,
I initially envisioned that players would play the role of the oldest sibling, with parents either sick or taking care of the youngest. With the catch being that unlike average quests 'losing' (that will come relatively easily) wounds/infects only one sibling and players start from that place as a younger one - with another, sick mouth to feed. Will you let your previous protagonist die because they are no longer useful?

I prefer stories about witnessing a moment in time and trying your best to survive it, rather than hero saving the world. Hence why protagonist is a tiny, harmless rat(boy/girl); a messenger, who assists actual competent people like doctors and military leaders; an immigrant arriving via the last train, with no power nor connections - a slave to circumstances, at least at first; initially jobless with impoverished family and no home.

There is poetic beauty in those least deserving of tragedies having to deal with the worst the world has to offer. A tiny, innocent being scapegoated and subjected to circumstances it can't realistically handle - I want the little guy to live another day. Their family too. Yet I hate to imagine what crimes it will take to live through it all...

But I truly don't know if people would enjoy a quest where we are essentially bullied by the world... happiness shines brightest against the backdrop of despair, yet who would subject themselves to it?

Anyway, I don't want to start another quest while I have one just starting. I had this idea for a few months or so, hence I probably won't forget it in the coming months too.

I think there was some anon who mentioned quests inspired by that Vallhalla "VA-11 Hall-A" cyberpunk bartending game, I have heard of it (not played it). I saw however a very slick trailer for a game called NECROBARISTA with a similar theme, the music was very good hehe, it has a sort of anime look argh so not my thing but I appreciated the design of it. And the OST features this song:

It's what you, what you want from me
Pretend that I'm shy
I laugh when you cry
It's what they, what they want from me
It's what they, what they want from me

Try to teach me a lesson
I'll keep, I'll keep you guessing
Oh, I will (I will)
I will (I will)

I kiss like I lie
You wait for a sign
It's what you, what you want from me

Left you dumb, left you damned
Left you limp in your hands

It also provided a very game-like element with canals separating the different districts, requiring boats, or passing through a bridge, meaning potential for either transportation problem (the old puzzles about traversing from A to B in the least amount of time by groups of 1 or 2, for example) or having whichever faction controls the district on either side decide what kind of bridge event gets rolled, and the MC's reputation with the guards, with fears of new districts being infected.

>>5674359
I mean, I'm one of your players, so it's obvious, since our little group of anons stuck around for the whole thread. It's the mark of a good quest, groups of <5 anons voting regularly. Leads to good strategizing, and something approaching civil discussions! Those are the comfy quests.

I'm less worried about anons being driven off by the dark and hopeless atmosphere than them being driven off by an MC switch. I saw that kill quests. Last Few Fae comes to mind. Maybe have the original MC be curable in some way? Let anons work towards getting them back, maybe?

So many quest ideas, so little time. Hopefully I can start a new one for the summer. Technically I've had one on the backburner for months. Poor anons. Alas, I couldn't really crank out daily 1,5k words posts, but at least I finished the thread!

>I mean, I'm one of your players, so it's obvious
Hi~

Also, I will try my hardest to start the new thread today, but family threatens me since yesterday with constant parties...

>It also provided a very game-like element with canals separating the different districts, requiring boats, or passing through a bridge, meaning potential for either transportation problem
Haha! In my initial drafts I thought the story over meanwhile preparing a map, so here is my pathetic (but sincere!) Effort. One big thing that I came up with was that when plague is detected in the eastern districts the bridges to the western, richer districts are burned and only small protagonists can clamber through the collapsed sewers, making them good (forced) messengers.

>new districts being infected.
Part of the reason I wanted a map was so I could mark the spread of disease and opened food shops/breadlines. Starting at the railroad until the royal castles.

>them being driven off by an MC switch
I intended MC switches anyway - just not death related. Each of 3 playable family members had different skills and personalities (with unique compulsions. That's where I came up with compulsions for current quest) and completely different views on things - virtuous, guilt-ridden worker, traumatized vengeful theif, near-blind traumatized girl - all of them would have different ways of bringing food back home and tackling/perceiving the plague/politics. Often leading to disagreement and having to pick a side.

Players were meant to switch between them each turn, or delegate them to tasks (but they would go about them incharacter, so they would be likely to get themselves in trouble or would be inefficient)

>Let anons work towards getting them back, maybe?
Absolutely, but also disabling the wounded sibling for some time, maybe to engage with the 4th bedridden and sickly sibling. The plague works in weird ways... One can't easily see it. But one might just shouldn't.

(Sorry for poor map, it was a prototype from few months back.)
>>
>>5674833
>Also, I will try my hardest to start the new thread today, but family threatens me since yesterday with constant parties...
Does it mean your exams are over at least? And yeah, I'll get my questgiving post ready. Also, did you manage to archive the thread on suptg after all?

>That's where I came up with compulsions for current quest) and completely different views on things - virtuous, guilt-ridden worker, traumatized vengeful theif, near-blind traumatized girl - all of them would have different ways of bringing food back home and tackling/perceiving the plague/politics. Often leading to disagreement and having to pick a side.

The Compulsion system works well enough right now, on a single character. But I'm not sure how anons would take to playing three different protags with three different moral compasses.

Also, I just have to point it out. The big red Factoties arrow in the top right. Sorry.

I will say it looks a bit too detailed perhaps? Populating it with stuff on that level of detail would be quite time-consuming, especially once the plague changes it. But hey, if it lets me indulge in my favorite qst pass-time of making crappy drawing with arrows to plot a character's route and actions!
>>
>>5674835
>Does it mean your exams are over at least?
Not even close. It's actually going to get worse.

It might get better once I find the Sadist who added German to my Collage specialisation. When I find him and get in a room with him I swear it won't end until one of us leaves in a dress - A frilly one at that. No mercy.

>Also, did you manage to archive the thread on suptg after all?
That I did~!
Although I REALLY dislike the name. It's so literal it cuts right through my poetic soul!

>The Compulsion system works well enough right now, on a single character.
...Does it really? You RESist too much! Cease RESisting, for you are being rescued~!

I all honesty, I think it would works best at showing the inner state of the character, what they really want/need. I think that properly balanced it could enchance the characters, especially when the RES difference becomes evident - with one fighting compulsions like it's nothing and with the other struggling to do anything but compulsions unless assisted.

>General Question:
>Since the topic is brought up like three times a thread How do you feel about the future of the board and what have you done to try and improve it?

So weird that I have to post it here, now that my thread got casually archived, but the 'threatening with a party' >>5674833 came to pass, and uncle from abroad arrived with stuff.

Sorry guys, today I won't be able to start a new thread - which I hate, waking up to see the updates often makes me giddy - but 4chan doesn't allow revisionis and Im afraid I'm not capable of good writing today, or at least writing that keeps with the seriusmood I'm going for.

On the good side: tomorrow I'm not dragging my ass to college - The uncle brought stuff - they don't teach us anything there anyway this close to end. Just exam after presentation after oral exam after essay after article. Bullshit and waste of life. So I WILL start the thread then, if modern filology should grade based on how well we write quests. That would be asweme and actually useful for life.

Like attracts like. The best way to ensure good players for a fanfic is to pick a respectable IP. When I wrote a quest based on classic gothic literature all the players were perfectly well behaved and sensible. Coomer autism material attracts coomers and autists. It's not rocket science.

Unfortunately, I have not read your quest, so I can't say something particular about it. Crossdressing isn't much of my taste, but feel free to ask the /qtg/ and corresponding discord for feedback.

It was literally the question asked? Do you want to talk about Metaethics? English literature? Have you read Pic of Dorian Gray? Maybe Kant? Weber? Maybe economy of scale of planes? League of Legends?

You might not have started it but you basically rode the coattails of (maybe) females to tout yourself as an "e-girl" in the thread. E-girls, even the bio-male ones, garner only disgust from my end.

But this happens to be your QM personality so whatever.

>>5675926
Anon, you seem to be oddly hostile towards opponents of transexuality? Mayhaps are you a homosexual or transsexual yourself? Such groups often share the same bed, and I do not mean this only in the literal sense.
>>
>>5675923
I have a great non gae proposal.

What's the most OH SHIT! Moment in your Questing career, both as a QM or a Player?

I've seen a quest about despairing magical girls abandoning hope and drinking away pain that ended with like 2ple Nat20 and an 18(?) For DC18 when the QM wanted to make the protagonist fall, but the players refused. It ended well, and to this day I think of it when in though times.

>>5675926
Is my writing this effeminate? I always thought of it as overtly positive, not exactly feminine. Generally, I double down when someone says it is...

Also, not so funny fact. In my 5 years career of playing LoL I had 8 completely random people come long-chat with me telling me how my positivity helps them with their depression/tragedies. Imo, I would rather continue writing like this.

I'll make an attempt.

Pulling from Greek mythology, how would you Anons describe the current "age" of quests as a medium: Golden, Silver, Bronze, Heroic or Iron? What years, events or even quests would you consider as landmarks between the different ages? For example, has creation of /qst/ marked the end of the Golden, Silver or Bronze Age?
>>
>>5675930
Anon, the entire exchange was asinine. You're just being dumb. You somehow convinced yourself an openly gay dude was trying to fool you into thinking he was a woman, then patted yourself on the back for outing him.

>>5675931
>What's the most OH SHIT! Moment in your Questing career, both as a QM or a Player?
Either when Davora died in DAQ, or when Ogg went mad in Kobolt Klan Adoption, I think.

>Is my writing this effeminate? I always thought of it as overtly positive
A bit of both, and neither are bad things to be.

Dark Ages of Medieval Europe.

The bubonic plague and bandits are sweeping the realm (trans/waifu/low effort sexual deviancy quests), and the kingdoms of men have retreated into petty squabbles rather than restore order (shitflinging in /qst/, mods completely absent).

The golden era of Imperial Rome is a distant memory and only a rare few now remember or even have the ability to understand what has been lost…

Hello, I am the worldbuilding anon from last thread coming to rescue the /qtg/ from the big gay. Rejoice!

I am now working on the cultural and flavor aspects of the nations we've come up with in the previous thread. I've got the following (names subject to change):

Lagor, Beastmasters

A civilization of lizardmen that have tamed the wild beasts of the jungle. Their society is meritocratic in nature, with great power coming to those that earned it through feats of valour or wit. One of the only vestiges of aristocratic rule is the existence of a ruling family, yet among even them only the wisest and most skilful of children inherits the Lizard King's title.

Their external policy is based on a right of conquest, yet their jungle itself is plentiful, so they see little need in raiding the other nations around them unless need calls for it.

They have a developed set of symbolic animals embodying various qualities of a sentient being, and this part of their culture has spread through trade or otherwise to neighbouring lands. Their pantheon also includes these animal-like gods in them.

The Lagorians respect the beasts they care for, considering them not merely tools for their work or war, but valued companions, superior in some ways (namely, physical) to the lizardmen.

They are adept nature mages. Some of their units are the raptor riders, panther riders, beemancers, giant crocodile tamers and masters of predatory birds and monstrous apes.

Haven't gotten around to their special sites yet, but they should have the Deep Jungle as a source of beast unit recruitment.
>>
>>5676001
Eleria, Glowing Lakes
A civilization of humans that have discovered the benefits of bathing in or consuming glowing water from magical lakes that enhances their magical abilities. Water extracted from the lakes loses its properties after some time, but while it retains them it remains a prized commodity among neighbouring people and among the commoners.

Speaking of commoners, most of the population live like slaves in slums distinct from the royal palaces of the Luminous (those that bathe in the lakes regularly). The slaves are kept in line by a crab mentality, as many are striving to ascend the ranks and become Luminous, while others are pulling them back, betraying and sabotaging their efforts, attempting the same goals. At least the commoner cuisine, through its inventive use of ingredients gathered in the wild, is quite good.

The secret of the lakes' power source is that they are sustained by constant human sacrifices. The dissolved bodies of those drowned in the lakes become the golden dust that tints the water and provides arcane power to those entering it. It also causes an addiction and causes the body of the consumer to age quicker. Luminous nobility usually doesn't live past 45. There are myths among the commoners about this, but it is generally kept a mystery.

There is a holy water cult. Lakes are guarded by elite warriors (the most powerful unit of this nation): the Lake Guard (duh). The Elerians are water mages mostly.

Special sites are most likely the lakes, haven't thought of it beyond that.

>>5676003
Sunoria, Shifting Identities
Now this one I'm not sure about, but it's a nation of shapeshifters. Their true forms are those of beautiful human-like beings (that's the part I'm not sure about, came up pretty quick lel) that assume the rough form of the first humanoid they see upon birth and forget their true forms. When they die, they revert back to their true forms.

They are divided into two kingdoms, one claiming they should seek their true forms, the other claiming themselves blessed by being able to assume any identity they like. The former conduct research into remembering the true forms in adulthood, and as such have powerful mages and priests, the others possess a powerful military and spy service.

To differentiate between shapeshifters and regular humanoids, they use inconspicuous signs only an attentive eye can spot (the shapeshifters themselves have VERY high perception for minor things to perfect their disguise). In the supremacist kingdom, there is secret police monitoring infiltration attempts by other races.

The act of shapeshifting bears some sacral and mystical importance. It is a sign of great affection to assume a form to the liking of a partner. Some of the purists faction choose to assume one form and retain it for their entire life (as a replacement for a true form or something, not sure).

Their pantheon consists of gods bearing, surprisingly, only a single identity.

There are people born from shapeshifters that cannot assume another form. They are called trueformed and are considered either sacred or cursed depending on the view of the whole shapeshifting.

Haven't gotten around to making units for them, but there's probably an elite trueformed one and their magic is something like wind for illusions?

Special sites are Rekata, a spycraft city, Ostia with a great temple and mage academy, Nesos, the military centre of supremacists, and Osk, city of the trueformed.

If you'd like to help, there remain the following nations with little lore to them:

Yst, Land of the Living Gods
Iri, Lifeforce Rivers
Denmoroz, Frozen Jungle
- , Legacy of the Fallen
Soldarach, Infernal Gates
- , Plague Winds - insectoids living on land abundant in plague and toxic mists
- , Reign of the Immortal - harpy raider state in the Night Mountains to the south
- , Reign of Sorcerors - serpent-men kingdom, primary magic nature and blood, secondary astral and fire, kinda wrote down and forgotten about this
- , Imprisoned Magic - magitech from previous thread, gonna call them something other than Togari though
- , Oni Kings - not!Japan
Verze, Verdant Coast
Sororis, Star Mages
Noen, -
Qezotl, Jungle Blood
Celan, Curse of the River
Vulpes, Deathcallers
Karkrim, Bounty of the Cursed Earth
Arher, Imperial Glory

Core concept for most of these I detailed in the previous thread >>5670588, others I listed here.

Thanks to all the anons who suggested ideas in the previous thread, by the way! You can see how your contribution shaped the lore.
>>
Woah, I hate to do it again and post in a general thread, but I hecked up greatly.

Still no new thread for PCS. Ive got like 5 posts worth of content but I can't stand it. There is something so off about it all that I can't bear to post it. Maybe their natural, angelic form is what they believe they look would like, but there is no definitive proof? If there is a precursor civilization around, remnants of painting and statues could be what influenced that belief.

I was reading World War Z recently and can't help but think many of the short stories and scenarios in it would make excellent quest adaptation fodder, whether as a oneshot or something longer-form that's definitely got the noggin jogging. However, I'm unsure of whether to retain the book's very distinctive writing style, where it is presented as a series of in-universe interview transcripts from the perspective of the interviewer following the format of a question, comment or observation followed by several paragraphs of first-person verbal response. While second person is the standard for quests, my thinking was that it would be fine for a short quest (e.g. with votes presented as possible answers to questions), but for longer quests either wouldn't fit the format or would get grating to read and exhausting to write. Any thoughts on that from any of you who have read the book (or stuck their heads into the fan fiction pages)?

It's good advice, I think it's just a me problem. When I'm drawing and animating, time just flies but I enjoy bringing what I imagine to life. When I write, it feels more forced and I have trouble focusing but I do enjoy what I produce in the end... I don't know why it feels this way but I hate it, and it makes producing time efficient updates difficult.
>>
>>5676112
I remember seeing that one at the time, though I didn't really pay it much mind and got thrown off by the mechanics and disorienting POV-jumping. I suppose the basic premise is similar, with the plan for shortish character-driven stories.
Objective is to get a feel for QMing and try out the verse I've made through the lens of short stories before eventually transitioning to something longer.

>QM Question:
I expected my players to be somewhat more unforgiving to a character that basically admitted to killing off humanity (but in a nice/apologetic way).

>Player Question:
Anything that requires reading an external rulebook or a ton of modifiers. Stats are OK if they can be understood at a glance, but it's hard for me to engage with anything more chunky than that. It is a function of the quest though - I will dedicate a lot more to understanding crunch if I like the plot.

>General Question:
I think it's OK. I mean more players is always better I suppose. I feel like qst is already very niche even though it has the potential to be pretty popular. I think that cross-board advertising would help, especially if you find the right crowd (some tg people, some k people, maybe some his/lit/x anons). I will probably cross post my next quest on a different board to try to bring some people over.

Or we can shell money and get a banner ad. That might do it.

Only got to the pc now to reply, that is a neat idea, but I have to wonder what they look like at birth then? Just regular human infants, then as they age they assume some random form from what they observed? I considered making them multiply by splitting off from the parents' body, that would solve the problem since they would assume the parent's form, but that would be kind of gross, if quite interesting. Also it presents another set of problems, like what they remember from their parent.

Oh, and maybe the moment they get control over their abilities is treated as a sort of second birth culturally.
For the cursed faction it's because they can now choose to stay in only one form (normally like one of their parents), and for the blessed it's because it's proof they are now a true Sunorian.
>>
>>5677076
Thinking more about it, that could give an opposite to the trueformed, one that instead of never awakening their shapeshifting abilities, never got their powers under control, randomly changing forms for their entire life.
Don't know if this is all too complex or not.

I'm genuinely curious! Early guess - there were ONLY explicit quests.
>>
>>5677254
They create all the /qtg/ threads with Discord links in the OP, and any /qtg/ that doesn't have the Discord links gets nuked. This reveals their tactics.
>>
>>5677276
Is that actually the case? For a while, the adisocrd link was tpelaced with one to a transgendered support group or something, and nobody noticed for months. I posted a Christmas-themed QTG before they could post theirs with the illustrated OP (by accident, I swear!) and nobody nuked that QTG. I think the Nazi-free WTG got nuked because we're only allowed one active General at a time, and Nazi Waifu QTG was still active at that time. Was a dumb idea anyway

This board is partly a containment board for quests, but most of the boards that quests would have been run on in the past were blue boards. This has used up my yearly quota of spoonfeeding. I will receive no recompense.

Anyway update for The Goblin King is Bored!

I see, but why? Given the creative nature of quests it seems to me that it's an unnecessary restriction - which hints there was a reason/s why it's the way it is.

Does anyone knows those reasons?

Oh, a second question~

Do you want that restriction or would you rather it gone?
>>
>>5677302 see >>5677299.

>do you want more porn?
Nah, qe have the right amount. It's easy to smuggle smut in, anyway. You just link it from off-site or, as Sojourner once did, put in a PDF where the porn is on the second or third page.
>>
>>5677302
>why?
Probably because it was split from /tg/, another blue board.

>Do you want that restriction or would you rather it gone?
I want it to stay.
You may see it as a restriction on creativity, but in fact it is this restriction that allows creativity to bloom. Otherwise every quest would just be porn.

Very nice solution. I think I'll implement it.
I'm returning to worldbuilding today, may post more in the /qtg/ in the coming days.

On another note, has anyone noticed that some threads have been archived ahead of time? We've only got threads up to page 9 now. I think it's probably due to their inactivity and short lifespan, I've watched some meme ones like maid harem.

Thoughts on a cultist/dark lord a sort of dual perspective quest? Would a fantasy, modern or futuristic setting be more interesting?
>>

They got nuked because mods didn't like them. Some of it were genuinely spam though.

Modern would be fun and different. We've had a good modern one in the past.

Seconding this - would be fun to do something like “Rosemary’s Baby” since we rarely get quests set in the modern era here.

I think the QM probably could have been a bit more subtle in his quest name and prose. it was definitely not a “tasteful” look at gang culture, so I can appreciate why a mod might have looked at it as racebaiting.

A quest based on the Wire would incredibly based, though.
>>
>>5677673
>an actual nonshitpost quest got mistaken for a low effort quest because the naming scheme was similar

Such is the game. Wrong place, wrong time.
>>
>>5677673
shit doesn't have to be tasteful to be fun and it probably was half a shit post and racebait but the qm seemed to be getting invested in it with each post. imo it had a right to play out instead of being axed.

Completely agree with you, but I’d prefer half of the pedo/erp/crossdressing threads getting nuked rather than none at all.

This is actually a good time to draw in new players given that the board is now relatively clean of sexual deviancy.

There's no hard and fast rule, but if you're going to elaborate on a specific sexual act, or really get into the sensations, actions, etcetera for more than a sentence or two, link it to a pastebin as a precaution.

There’s (unless I missed something) exactly two trans/cross dressing quests at the moment, and only one is clearly bait that got missed because it’s at the bottom of the board after a whole month of no interaction. Then again it wouldn’t be /qtg/ if there wasn’t some rrats being thrown around to borrow another board’s slang.

What type of quest do you think /qst/ is missing in terms of pure mechanics? We already have a bunch of RPGs with dice rolling, some party based dungeon crawlers, and more abstract Story related games, but what sort of mechanics do we really not see a lot of?
>>
>>5677781
Cooperative storytelling, when the players have the ability to influence the setting, backstory or plot from time to time

That one was even in ReptoidQM's list of recommendations, which is like being a 3-star quest
>>
>>5676773
You mentioned trying out language models for story writing but finding them constrained when handling NSFW or politically-incorrect topics such as Irnille or the ideology of the reptilians.
Have you tried setting up a local model? They don't have the same censorship problems and you can run one provided that you have a gaming PC or even just a good laptop. There are some guides on /g/: look for /lmg/ to get started

>>
>>5677781
It might be my bias, but I really like mechanics that make protagonist not just the embodiment of the players, but also a character with thier own (destructive) desires.

Mechanics where if players roll poorly the protagonist chooses the option players wouldn't ever choose. It makes quests much less predictable and chaotic~

Also, players tend to go Logic-engine mode and almost always choose the logical option, this can add spice when protag elects to say 'screw the players! I wanna gamble!' beacuse all players rolled poorly on Will roll

>>5677940
Hype!

>>5677936
Name your quest and I'll give it a look
>>
>>5677929
1. Write notes about events you want to happen, funny lines you want to use etc.. but NOT in details, and keep it changing. Write and discover the story as you move along, ideally, you will be as surprised as the players sometimes. (although it's great to hint developments

2. Best time for thinking is, in my option, during jogging or walks. Before them go on danbooru or a anything with pics for inspiration. Expand on the ideas as you jog/walk. Start with something generic then exapand it. That's how I keep myself engaged to the quest.

And, most importantly.

3. People, the Social, the air. Open with your players, don't hide, maybe even ask for advice - such actions build bonds and loyalty. And imo, having bond with your players is THE thing that matters. Here is my unpopular opinion: mere vote '> I vote X' is nearly worthless for ego and desire to go on, one 2-3 paragraph comment is more satisfying than 5 '>x's. So Build loyalty, look at your quest as a hub for like-minded people, and return just for them. Fundamentally, questing is a social hobby, and oftentimes, it's the players that decide how good a quest becomes by encouragement, fanfiction, or by coming up with theories you can incorporate.

a sempai of mine said wisely 'its not action people want, but reaction' - provide it. Don't just throw Quest Words at people, ask them shit, engage them, staying silent is the best way of making QMing into a chore.

Knowledge itself conquers fear. Those methods make returning to quests a pleasure, and when that happens it's kinda difficult to flake.
...those (You)s man... They are addictive...

>>
>>5677936
How do you define "lack of replies"? If I get 1 or 0 votes during a full voting window, I get a little worried, but I'm happy and comfortable with 3+. 2 is borderline.

If you find yourself unsatisfied with 3+, I recommend revising your mindset, because that's a solid amount for a small quest-- especially if the players are engaging with it.

I figured out I couldn't QM when my quest had like 6 or so replies in the beginning, but then had 2 for the rest of the time. It felt more like pity than actual enjoyment so the most sensical thing to do would just be to stop, so I did. Plus finals hit hard. Does anybody else on /qst/ have this problem?

I constantly think about running a complex or ambitious quest, like a very long running fantasy or cultivation quest, even though I've had problems with burnout and ennui in the past. I have run a relatively long running quest before that I'd still doing (not going to say which) but I have this strange desire to start something new and long-form even though I already know I wouldn't actually enjoy running it that much, since I mostly prefer one-shots. I think it's more the desire for the extrinsic reward of having a popular Quest people talk about or has a lot of traffic as opposed to the actual intrinsic enjoyment of running individual threads. Still this knowledge does not actually stop my desire to attempt something like this, even though I know I will very likely get burnt out.
>>
>>5678260
Which quest? Seems like you're being too hard on yourself. Rare is the quest that doesn't go through slow periods, but if you're getting few replies it may have more to do with
