It took three months of planning to get to this moment. Scour the grounds, make it past the wards, the walls, the houseguards, breach the vault, in, out, clean. And then, the getaway. That part . . . That part should have been planned better. It's turning out surprisingly hard to run with an arrowhead digging into the softer tissue.
I think the last marksman managed to puncture a lung. Might have hoped the Luperni hired hands were altogether less keen on doing such a damnable good job. I'm impressed with their professionalism, but I'd rather they put less effort into treachery and threats. And now they're prowling the streets, hounding us. Tracking the blood, cutting off the avenues. The whistles of the search parties are too loud, too close. Calling this place a safehouse is starting to be decidedly optimistic. Time to move. I need to make it to the dock. Let's hope my hired hands and the few loyalists still in the city can keep the path clear.
>>5602598No, I got rather rapidly less assured of the brilliance of my plan by the time I lost a quart of blood.See, the issue with trying to work out all the angles is you can bribe the right people, get to where you need to be, make it well past the walls and then some guy, probably new to the entire job, is sleeping with one of the maids and what star-struck good is all the careful, clever and cunning tricks when you open a door and find two people rapidly putting on their clothes after a tryst? For a man with half his uniform on the floor he was really quite quick on the draw.
Get to the docks. That's . . . That's the plan. Get to the docks. Give the signal, the boat comes in, and we're out. Clear. Clean. Quick. And then the ship surgeon can try to pry this arrowhead out of my lung. Now let's see what we're working with . . .--->Okay friend, this might get a little dangerous before it gets better. Okay, friends... I think we've got the lay of the land. Good use of smarts.>3 hits tactics, 3 hits streetsmarts. Map updated!>base information about hostiles acquired!--We need to move fast. The Luperni are few here, for now, but things will Escalate as they narrow the search and bring up their hunters. Every turn, Fate has it out for us and odds are they'll bring up more hired hands.>Escalation dice are rolled at the end of player phase. A hit means a search party arrives. Escalation increases every time no hits are scored and when a turn passes. Scare them out of the way, shove them aside or, if we have to, commit a slight amount of violence. Don't think the lesser hired hands will put up much of a stern fight - if you wound them, they're apt to flee. No, it's the Houseguard Hounds we need to worry about. But if we luck are with us, we're faster than they're ferocious and by the time they arrive, we'll be miles out to sea. I'll do my best to keep up. So don't worry overmuch. >>5602831"Agent, does this appear to be a traversable path?"
>>5602836Right clear there, Jove. One always spends at least 1 Stamina so one always gets at least 1d10. You can accomplish quite a few things with just your bare brawn, some determination and a bit of the old Earnest Try. That said, secrets, skills and perks do help rather a lot.As for your Boostkit, you're correct. Once you spend some of the stored force, you'll need to wind up the gears by spending 2 Stamina. Now this might seem a poor trade, trading two d10s for 3d10s later. . . But I should remind you that the Boostgear does not provide you with additional dice, it provides you with additional outcome by unleashing the pent up force. If you don't have the stamina to spare, you can also try to accomplish the same with a roll of Gearwright. But that's rather faster and so up to chance - with the possibility of overcranking the things too. On that topic, that's why you've studied some mechanics as well. You can attempt to modify the Boostgear using Gearwright. I don't much recommend doing this while engaged in ferocious duels, but it is possible to adjust the tensile strength and lock in a harder boost or a few other adjustments. Just. . . Be mindful of your limits.

Good to know you're moving. We're doing well. Navigating these alleys is the harder task tonight. Be careful not to fall in the canal.Keep in mind, moving is a little less difficult than you might think. You always get to move your full SPD with 1 Stamina. Heavy armour tends to reduce someone's speed. Probably why our Stalwarts are all arriving late. One cardinal tile is 1SPD, but you might try to slip a corner in a diagonal way? That's a little harder and somehow, somewhy, it tends to tire people out and accrues +1 Fatigue. Something about Universal Rules or some-such. Point is, moving diagonally gets you somewhere faster but the Gods of the Angles tend to frown. If you need to rush, remember you can Sprint - spend 1 Stamina to add +1 Speed. You also get 1 Fatigue.Usually, this easier as a shorthand. Push and Sprint together. You'll take 2 Fatigue for +1 Speed. I wish I could do that but I'm worried if I jostle too much the arrowhead will poke things unfit for poking.

If you can't guide you allies steadily through the storm, what good is it?If you take supportive steady actions, we'll resolve them at the end of your turn. So you can Steadily apply First Aid to a bleeding ally. And then the Ally won't bleed when they take their turn.
>>5603460That's the beauty of it, scar-soul. I do that by rote - it's why you sometimes see Fatigue incrementing even if you didn't realise you were pushing yourself!

Are you planning on giving them penalties because the different weapons still get a lot more dice and a person only has so much Violence and Brawn to spread around?
>>5604337>but you can get 5 dice for 9 bits for two skills.
>>5604337It’s mildly intentional, and the hope is the balancing act has mostly been already achieved. You see, Perks that boost skill use generally increase in utility with the rank of the skill and you’re mildly capped in the amount of Perks you can have at any one time based on your skill rank. In this way, Longblades 4 paired with {Fading Cut}: “Step 1/2 Rank, get half rank +Parry” competes okay with someone who has two skills. One is more broad.Secondly, weapon hits treat their base as how much punch they pack. The longblade starts with 1Wound, boosted by hits. Roll 7d10, get 5 hits, whallop for 6 wounds! Ouch!If we attacked someone with Axe3+Knife3 the system treats it as a 1 stamina action for a dicepool of 7 (you get 6d10 and the stamina). So far, so good, same same. But 4 of those dice are hits for 1 weapon and 3 of those are hits for another. So lets say you get 10 1 10 1 777You don’t have 5 hits with both weapons for a total of 12 wounds! You have 2 crits with one and 3hits with another. And your opponent might be resisting. If your weapons have 1W your output is 3W +4W. That is 7Wounds, which is more than the Six from a longsword. Deadly. But against armor, it’s two strikes that both deflect! Dual wielding this way is tremendously valuable against lightly armored opponents or if you have Perks that combine well or two tools that have valuable combination. Imagine a stunning club and a serrated dagger. Someone you attack begins to bleed, and the stamina they need to stop it is drained by your stunning strikes. And there are some tricks you can do when you have two weapons at hand you can’t do with one. But hope is that it should work as is.
>>5604369I see, I guess the resistance/damage reduction would be the biggest thing that affects using two different weapons right now. It doesn't seem like it'd be too big a deal since we're fighting a lot of lightly armored enemies but that might change in the future. You can also pick and choose where to put your secondary stats like Violence and Brawn to decide whether you want one good strike and one okayish strike or two good enough strikes yeah so even with Blades 3/Axes 3 a player can still bump another 2 or 3 dice from their other skills/attributes.I guess weapon specialization Perks would probably balance out single weapons but I didn't see any perks in character creation that had specific weapons in mind. Good to know, I'll wait and see what the option are for weapon specialization perks later then but random thought being a weapon master using ALL the weapons at once would be kinda amusing lol. Pic relatedDo those people that buy player skills still exist if I wanted to switch Longblades to Longaxes by the way? Axes are more my speed.

>>5605074Means Getting Out The Way. Let me run you through it, different-wise. There's three primary types of keeping yourself alive in a barbrawl. Well, three and one that's cheating.cheaters wear heavy armor. Any bad stuff their way, the armor takes and any consequences the armor helps defuse. well, if you can't have armor, you can Block. You put something - anything - between you and the Other Thing. That rolls your Brawn + skils + the block value of the thing. Shields have block value, and are very helpful. But you can block with most anything... including your arms... But keep in mind that when you block, the thing you put in the way get hit. It's hardly much use to block with your arms if you're trying not to be hit! And if someone swings a heavy twohander at your journal, your journal is gone.>Blocking rolls against incoming strikes, doesn't deplete, and hits reduce incoming by 1. Shields often have block and armor - they provide their armor when raised.Dodging is often easier. You give up space to live longer. Usually, SPD+Reaction will do for you - but some are trained in Dodging, and so probably want to use SPD + Dodging. You step away from the attacker, and hits add to your Reaction Threshold. Which makes you quite harder to hit. However, you need to be able to step away. If there's no empty tiles around you, you get penalised. And if you step away randomly, you risk slipping off buildings like the Scragdogs. If you dodge a lot, you run out of space to run to.Finally, Parry. Use a weapon skill and usually your Style. Say Violence+Spears. When someone attacks you, you lash out /faster/. If you get more hits than them, you deflect their attack and strike them. But you can see how this is somewhat dangerous. If you get it wrong, they often stab you.Oh, and as for heavy hunks in armor, they often rely on blocking and parrying because their armor slows them down enough that they can't dodge as well.
>>5605087> Commune with the fleas in the scraghound's matted fur, whipping them into a feeding frenzy in an effort to distract their host. (2Sta+3Buzzmind+1Focus)After reviewing my character details 'Focus' should be replaced with 'Authority' attribute.Apologies for the oversight.
>>5605096So do defenses work against every incoming attack that turn, or just the first one? What if you dodge and parry at the same time?
>>5605096I just wanna double check, if you use a skill for one action you can't use them for other actions yeah? Like if you use Violence to punch you can't add Violence to a different sword swing? How much range would you lose by chaining an attack with a parry? Like if you put>-2 STA Attack with longblade /and/ parry with longbladeWould that be a -1 or -2 range or is that not possible? Also what's the easiest way to gain more range of success? We seem to have a lot of options to reduce it but not increase which I guess is fair because of balance.
>>5605206>>5605096Hmm if I use my armor for an attack would I lose damage reduction from it? I assume if I use resistance for anything I'd lose the ability to use it for damage reduction.
>>5605198A block works against every incoming attack. It gets progressively harder to dodge more and more strikes - each attempt burns your dice, and rolling 1s burns them too. So if you start with SPD 4 + Reaction 4 - 8dice that's great against one attack . .. But two? Or three?A Parry works one time. Lots of specialist training change this. For "More" parries, spend more Stamina. It does stop an attacker cold, if it works, though. --->>5605206It did absolutely work like that in a parallel world, I'm told. I'm not an expert. Here, in this one, you can add the same pool to multiple things in one turn. That's why your basic attributes and a style - violence, brawn, authority - suchlike is so valuable. You do better with them. However, you can't add the same pool twice to the same thing. Violence does not, alas, stack with more Violence in the same way on the same target. So due to Universal Strangeness, trying to do the "same kind" of thing against the same target repeatedly doesn't work. So:>1Sta: Violence+Unarmed, Punch The Man>1Sta: Violence+Unarmed, Punch The Same Man >1Sta: Violence+Unarmed, Punch The Same Man >1Sta: Violence+Unarmed, Punch The Same Man >1Sta: Violence+Unarmed, Punch The Same Man Results in 1 roll of Violence+Unarmed+5Stamina, not violence and unarmed multiple times. There's also advanced skills that "lock" a pool. Then it cannot be used for anything else, like you imagine things work right now. Steady actions do this too, but the payoff is they're steady, don't consume stamina and tend to automatically avoid the dangers of rushing. Finally, if you're clever and quick, you can indeed chain in parrry with an attack.>1Sta: Violence3+Blades3, strike[3] then parry[4]. You split your pools in the same act. This might seem scant benefit because clearly>1Sta: Strike [7]>1Sta: Parry [7]Gets you a much better parry. However, the saved Stamina on the first way, via splitting, pays a lot of dividends if you might need to, say, run. Or such. Finally, trying to do things with a Measure, like you describe is actually possible. What tends to happen is that your hits on the action is treated as aiding a second action.>1Sta: Aim: Lash out defensively with my sword , trying to parry as well.(or some such). You roll 7d10, you'd hit on 8,9,10 /and/ your hits now build up a Parry attempt. So if you got 3 hits you'd do a 3 hit attack and have 3 Parry. Nice footwork! There's a lot of Bladeskills that make this a lot easier. We just don't quite have a teacher yet. Let me walk you through it once we're out of this place...

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I am the calm in the storm. I am the wind. I am not going to scream. I am not going to scream. I am not going to screa---WHERE'S THE VOIDTOUCHED BOAT?!
>>5605423Right right right the planner we can blame the planner and the planner is --- Oh voidstar, it's me Aaaahhhhh okay, okay, okay, look, we're missing a boat it's a pretty crucial part of my entire escape plan, we'll just have to ... find... it. One. A boat. A vessel. I'm thinking, I'm thinking
>>5605427Is this not a boat? Looks like a boat? Worst comes to worst we can just make a boat out of the broken bodies of our enemies.
>>5605432That's a merchant's cart. It's not precisely sea-worthy, Toby. I mean, it'll float. If we. . . cut of the wheels and... wait. No. That doesn't seem like it would work long-term. And how we would attach the horses?
>>5605432There was that floating stall but I don't think it seats twelve.
I can attach the horses. We have the technology. That or make new friends in the sea.
If everyone grabs a door we could make an adorable raft.

>>5605451Replete with them! It's how I got into the Luperni manor in the first place. Take a left by the intersection with a hundred dead rats and ... But issue is it's how I got in. It might not be how we get out, they'll be watching it.
>>5605453Well, we'll just have to look for the boat then. There can't be too many places a boat can hide, right? Were there people manning the boat? Perhaps they hid it since there were archers and ballistas around.maybe if you post the turn we can look at the map to see boat hiding spots >.>
If only there were some amazingly powerful being nearby, working for some sort of secret, greedy merchant cabal, that could do something as ludicrous as lead our two woeharts in a ritual to just summon a boat made out of blood and let us sail away on it, and might be persuaded by a cut of those infinite riches you mentioned earlier.

Your wounded foe is not dead - you'll see he has a staggering amount of wounds and profuse bleeding. His Bleed causes wounds. The wounds above his Resilience cause Fatigue. The Fatigue causes a loss of stamina. And every turn, his bleeding worsens. He is incapacitated and dying, slow and sure. But with aid, someone could rescue him. It's much the same for us.Fatigue above Resilience eats Stamina.Wounds above Resilience impart FatigueBleed imparts wounds, every turn, without fail or mercy. They've got shields and swords, and aren't much more in a fight than the Slicedogs. . . But they've got one thing going for them: Pack Tactics! If you're fighting one Biter, the others will come down on you and they all get a bonus to their strikes depending on how many Biters are attacking you at once. That makes a two or three on one patently more unfair than needs be!Otherwise, these specimen look unremarkable. 3 Stamina, 3 SPD, about 4 Bladework in total and no noticable hardcases among them. Whupsies, blinked out there for a minute - might be the bloodloss. Everyone still alive? Let's. . . Let's see what's what.
>>5608034Ah, you. Good to see you! I thought trawling through the canal tunnels might slow us down but I'm glad you made it, stalker. Now find us a path out of here, pathfinder!
Breaker, easy there - you almost flung yourself in the waterways! Good eye on that throw though, bashed the Biter right into the shield. Looks like it distracted him while Jove went in for it. It's getting a little cramped here --- and that Hound is still standing, despite Fulton's piercing blow. Good thing we brought an armour-breaker, they've shrugged of most anything else! Void take the Luperni Forges and their cunning crafts. --Bloom, are you.... You know what. Just Steelsoul Things. You'll handle it. --Eventide, you've found one of the entrances into the underpassages and waterways. It's where Ryona snuck out from just a breath ago. It's damp and dank and dark, but the under croft runs under most of this part of the docks. And there's some fascinating specimen down there. You see anything interesting?-->1/3
>>5607563Well, the tunnels are quite dark Eventide but it's quite possible to make your way through them. Without a Stalker's Instincts though, it's hard going - takes a steady action and a roll of SPD, against a threshold out of 5. Misses slow you down some. Fascinating spiders down here though. Might be worth a look.
Hart! Careful! Doc's fine ministrations force-knit your wounds closed, but Woeheart works bind the tissue at accelerated rates; it converts Bleed to Wounds to Fatigue -- and it tires the body something fierce. You just got 12 Fatigue with a Resilience of 10 and you've gotten Stunned Out. You have to start your turn by bringing your Fatigue back in line with your Resilience - 2 here, by breathing in - and any guard or focus you had up gets lost as you run out of stamina and breath!>but not sigildry within limit, that's all rote practice.Strikers with {Deep Reserves} get Stunned Out too and lose their guard and footing, but even with 20 Fatigue they always maintain the ability to use at least half their Stamina.
Don't fall for it, Bloom. I swear it sounds nice but its just this thing they call market things and publically relating. I mean with speed not only could I attack with it but speed also dictates movement which means more looting and dodging which means more living.Brawn I could maybe use for grappling but I could just bump violence up as my second stat to kill people with. But Armor reduces your pools, and you're not good at resisting the world.if you're brawny, you shrug off force, lift the world on your shoulders and stand your ground - and as a side-effect, you can roughly shift you Brawn's worth of material with 1 STA, which is to say, 1 tile per Brawn. Huck it, block it or use it to carry your allies to safety. You can also use Brawn to inflict force on people, shoving them around, and as you found out, Brawn+Armor lets you power through people.
( Also more custom-fit armor simply requires being brawny enough to bear the weight )

Fitted armor has a reduced speed penalty, and apparently Brawn lets you be better fitted to heavy armor, so maybe not a pure Speed + Violence build, but you could try tri-statting or quadstatting with one speed weapon and one brawn weapon. (I finally return from Banned Baby Jail, and I've come back to ask some dumb questions.)(-Can Incant and Beacon be stacked onto the same action? They both use (rank+limit).)(-When fighting with blood weapons using Woeheart skill, is that close enough to "spellwork" to use Incant with?)(-Outside of making it harder to recover from, is there any downside to stacking an extremely excessive amount of fatigue? Like is there a point where you'd just pass the fuck out (or die from exhaustion) even if you had Deep Reserves, or something?)
>>5609339I heard that! Teach you for 32 Bits!
>>5609372I swear the broad intgration of Vulpes into your clan homes has ruined your style.
>>5609362Ah, Scourgelings. Catch a fish and you feed someone for a day, teach them sigildry and they’ll replace the river with the holes were the stars used to be.First, I’m no Free College specialist, but I can tell you this much: Beacon, Conduit, Weave, Incant, Beckon, Coax, Sacrifice and Surrender can all be used on the same singular sigilwork, if one can bear the cost. It’s worth keeping in mind what that cost be, however! Suppose you Incant (+Magnitude=Rank+Limit), while being a Beacon (+Dice=Rank+Limit), while offering the Soul Tax and giving of yourself to establish a Conduit (+AoE)Your next Sigil will now strike a full 3x3 area, for your secrets (Attune+Authority, say), plus Rank+Limit. And would you believe it, any Stamina spent (you can Push!). Mayhaps a staggering 25d10? But we’re not *done*, Havoc Hart. I mean Heart. Any hits you get on your roll is boosted by Incant, at perhaps +5, and your basic tools. Lets say a wrackborne 15 hits in total. On every tile in a 3x3 - so just around 135 Magnitude’s worth of sigilwork in a brief moment where your needles poke holes in the world. And the cost? Well… 3 Wounds, 2 Fatigue, 2 Stamina (The Incant + The Work). And if you speak the wrong words or touch your needle to the wrong thing, you may lose control (Beacon). Of the most powerful invocation in the district. … Let me know when you’re doing this so I can be somewhere far away!
>>5609388>>5609362Once wrought, this particular sigilwork would be unfathomably hard to sustain. Not only is it 34ish times beyond your Limit, its about 13,5 times beyond your Resilience presently 135 times beyond your Rebuff. If you try to maintain direct control over it, your brain will turn into small spiderfrogs raining from the high heavens over in the Reiklands. (Other side of the continent, if you’ve lost your map)But for brief - oh so brief - flashy work you absolutely positively have to get done, no matter the cost? Accept no substitutes, even if your accuracy may suffer. Now, secondly, when using your creations with your own hands you can use your Sigildry skill in place of any normal skill you’d use. So, if you find yourself cornered, you can use Woeheart+Violence to use your sword! Now, the benefits is the easy of use and that you can indeed use both Conduit, Incant and other such on this activity. However, do be aware that +Magnitude isn’t quite the same as being sure you strike true. If you go up against a trained fencer, you’ll need to make a roll of Woeheart+Violence, say, to shank him. And yes, Beacon will help! … But are you entirely sure you want to pledge your hedgework against a trained combatant in all cases? Backfires get rapidly worse if your opponent also interferes, and you’re matching your sigildry against their sheer skill… Your blows might topple buildings but they’ll rarely land. If you get redirected or parried, that’s bad for everyone nearby!Does this mean a Scourge has no business armoring themselves in thought and sigils and picking a fight with a Stalwart? No. You are a Scourge. You are deadly, wonderful, creative and cunning. You can win such a fight and quite handily too. It just will not be as easy as you think!(Consider, at the very least, how much your opponent will appreciate you using Incant to rapidly tire yourself out).Speaking of tiring yourself out, Fatigue. When past your Resilience it lowers your stamina and Stuns You Out, making all effortful maintenance impossible. With Resilience 10, that means 15 Fatigue effectively skips your turn, as you spend 5 Stamina recovering your bearings.Secondly, /conditions/ of all kinds past Resilience can Trigger. They’re rolled at as a dice pool and hits cause Complications. Critical hits cause Fun Times. So if your fatigue shoots to 20, you’re Stunned out and in your blurry haze of sweat and burning lungs you might trip on your own sword.Oh, finally, you’re Academically trained - the Woeheart Blade you’re sustaining is a channel for Drain. It sucks the vital energies of targets struck into itself, inflicting wounds, half hits fatigue and recovering up to its drain value fatigue for you if you land a good enough blow.
>>5609408( Yes you can use Woeheart + Edge too. or Grace. Or Focus. Or any such thing. )
>>5609408(Just to confirm, since it feels a bit too good to be true, if I hit someone with a Drain 2 weapon and got 4 hits, would that deal 6 Wounds and 2 Fatigue?)
>>5609419That seems like violence to me! And if you spoke the words and made the gestures first and Incanted you would hit for 11wounds and 5 fatigue. Buuuuuuuut (dammit, always these conditionals). In your example you got 4 hits. A Steelsoul considers dodging that a light stretch and someone with a shield will block that with a slight raise of the arm, by rolling Brawn+Shield and taking it on their Block. Your blow is powerful IF it connects. It’s making that connection that can be hard.So best get some friends, flank with Ryona or be nimble!
>>5609434(Doesn't Incant add +hits and not +effect? So that would be 9 hits unless the ones from Incant don't count for beating dodges/blocks or something.)
On the other hand, if we were to, say, perform a humor rebalancing of the Great Knight to remove his excess aggression, we could pop off something like 20 dice on top of +9 mag for self-mortification and another 4ish for forming a conduit to the beyond and inflict substantial exsanguination?
Are multi-tile beings/objects such as the knights and ballistae hit multiple times by some AoE effects, such as a lightweaver's laser shotgun?
>>5609448They don’t. That’s the point.
>>5609450And just imagine what multiple Scourges working together with Weave might accomplish!>>5609454Most effects hit the same *entity* once, even if the murderous beast occupies larger spaces. There are some exceptions to this, but they will be quite clear and specific because they relate to some… Undiscovered Foes. That said, large enough entities end up with distinct sub-parts. And if you hit it with a large enough area of effect you can hit multiple parts of the same creature at once. Imagine a beast with individual Resilience for its head, body and legs. Cover it in fire, it all burns. But Laelaps? Takes damage once.
>>5609756My understanding is that I do not have any ranks in any sigildry, so it's 4 stamina for 1 mag for another sigilist. While not useless, as it allows us to add effect without having to fight through the defense again, 4x stamina seems inefficient in most cases. On the other hand, if I had 4 ranks in woeheart and wanted to help Hart throw the biggest blood spear seen this year, could I just weave infinitely (or is it 1 stamina to activate the split action, so if I wanted to do a double weave currently it would cost 9)?
>>5609850Ahhhh, I see. There’s a… Catch. You see, uhm, Weave does *two* things. Your ally - any ally - can give some of their energy to you if they can see you. For scourges, it’s more effective, but all your friends can join in. And no, they don’t need the perk. Just the will. Or you can help others with your fatigue. And *then*, also, you can add your strength to an sigil being invoked.
>>5609870So while you can huck raw soul and surety at the work, you’re apt to have attunes and skills of your own. Which does tend to work rather better. And of course if one mixes elements there’s some options there. Get a lightweaver to help your woeheart friend target the lights inside someone’s skull. Get your Chronos companions to accelerate your Kinetics. Bind Fate and Force into Woe to create self perpetuating, willful life. Of a kind. Ask fire to dance and mud to sing and metal to behave like water. But don’t meddle with starstuff. Word of advice.>turn SOON
