Bad news everyone.

The zombie virus is here. It came like a storm while you were 6 hours into a 12-hour night shift at the mini-mart in a working class neighborhood in Franklin, Tennessee. You had caught the tail-end of a news broadcast before the power went out. The newscaster described the zombies as slow, but capable of sprinting short distances. They spread the infection through a bite, and can only be killed by destroying their brain.

Since you take the bus to work, as soon as you heard the chaos outside, you figured it would be safer to turn off the lights and lock the door than try to make it back home. You listened throughout the night to the sound of screams, gunshots, and car crashes. A few people rattled on the door to get in, but could not. When morning finally came, things were quit. Looking around outside you could see the street was full of abandoned cars, and several zombies ambled around aimlessly.

The mini-mart, which had apparently become your home base, was stocked with a variety of snacks, candy, beverages, basic medicine and cigarettes. There is a bathroom and a storage closet in the back. Management keeps a fully loaded .38 Special 5-shooter under the counter, but without any extra ammo. All in all, its not the worst place to be during the apocalypse.

The morning is here. It's time to figure out how you're going to survive in this new world. The mini-mart will keep you fed for a while, but eventually you'll need to find a more sustainable lifestyle, and probably find some other survivors.

You crack open an energy drink and start to think.

What's your first move?
>Work on fortifying the mini-mart. You might not be staying here forever, but you should at least make it a suitable home-base so that you can sleep easy without worrying about zombies or other people breaking in. [Specify what changes you make to fortify the store].

You decide that anything you do will be easier if you have some other people to work with. So you grab your gun and peek outside. There are a few zombies moving around, but not enough to make it impossible to sneak by. You wait until there is a clear path between you and the apartments and then leave and lock the door behind you. You run in a crouch between the cars until you make it into the apartment foyer.

The apartment is 3 stories high, with the bottom level being a half-basement.

You go down to the first floor, the gun gripped in your hand, moving cautiously. You think better than to make any loud noises, so you just gently try to open each door. Most of them are locked. If there is anyone inside, they don't let you know. The last door on the right-side of the bottom floor is already ajar. You push it open slowly and peek inside. On the inside, the apartments are small studios. The floor is covered in trash and dirty laundry.

After looking around for a while, you decide that whoever lives here doesn't have much that you can't get at the mini-mart. A look in his closet shows that the resident is probably a man, and wears around your size. So you steal his backpack and pack some of his clean clothes into it. You find his apartment key on the kitchen counter and decide you may as well take that too. You lock the door and head up stairs.

After that, you go upstairs and keep checking on each door. After finding that they are all locked, you start up to the top floor, but as you make it onto the stairwell, you hear a door open behind you. When you turn to look, a average looking, mid-30's man, who appears to be Indian, is standing and pointing a rifle at you.

"What are you doing?" He asks with a thick accent, a suspicious and nervous look on his face.

How do you handle this? Throughout all of this, please feel free to add any details that you want when you vote.

>Try to explain the situation, see if he is open to joining forces.

You don't make any sudden movements and slowly talk the man down. Telling him your name and your situation. He interrogates you some, clearly very nervous. As you talk to him, he seems to calm down. You express that you'll be more likely to survive if you stick together. You can see in his face that he is seriously considering it, when all of the sudden you hear a creaking noise from behind you, and the man's face grows horrified as a woman shuffles slowly down the stairs, the characteristic green hue of the zombie infection showing in her skin.

It notices you, and starts to sprint towards you. The man urges you forward and the two of you wait inside his apartment.

He introduces himself as Raj and after some talk, is persuaded to join with you.

What now?

Before Raj can react, you pull out your gun and go out into the hallway, slamming the zombie back with the door. You fire a shot at it, but miss. A second shot misses. At that point, the zombie regains its balance and lunges at you, but as it crosses the hallway, you are able to shoot it point blank in the head.

Raj comes and grabs you on the shoulder, with a concerned look. "You're going to bring them all here!" In a frenzy, he grabs a backpack he had sitting near the door and the two of you are able to sneak back across the street to the mini-mart.

Going back in, the two of you catch your breath. "Now what?" Raj asks.

The roof is accessible via a ladder in the back of the building, which is in an alleyway.

>Look for a melee weapon and have Raj start fortifying the mini mart.

You tell Raj to get to work on fortifying the store while you start going through the closets and cupboards looking for a suitable melee weapon. You find a toolkit in the maintenance closet. It has a hammer in it that could make a suitable, although very short-range, melee weapon. At least until you find something better.

After finding that, you help Raj with fortifying the base. You're able to slide some of the heavier shelves in front of the windows, and using some duct tape you're able to secure them pretty firmly in place. You put some of the lighter racks, normally used for holding sunglasses and lighters, in front of the door.

The fortifications definitely make you safer, but there is a downside: due to the lack of electricity, the mini-mart is noticeably darker, with only a bit of light coming in past the shelves. It will be hard to get much more work done without another source of light.

At some point, you realize that you haven't slept in almost two days, and you start to crash. You fall into a deep sleep.

When you wake up, you see Raj is asleep several feet away from you.

I will take the training wheels off now and leave it to you all to decide:

Yeah, there are lots of cars lying around the street, tried to update the shitty map with some cars. There are no parking lots, street parking only on this particular street.

>>5270789
>Go raid the vet's office for medical supplies

You and Raj work together to open up the door and take a look at the path across the street to the vet's office.

Whether its from all the noise you all have been making, or just plain bad luck, you're not sure, but there are way more zombies out in the street now than there were when you went to sleep.

Just running straight across like you have been doing could be tempting fate. It might be smarter to come up with a plan to avoid drawing their attention.

How do you handle this?

(I started using external dice)
You quietly open the door, crouching out in front. Raj follows behind you. You lock the door and do your best to avoid the zombies, hanging close to the cars as you cross the street.

Unfortunately, about halfway across the street, Raj's rifle clangs against the side of a car. You hear the zombies in the vicinity all start towards you. You and Raj give up sneaking and rush to the veterinarian's clinic. You are able to outrun the zombies, and make it to the vet door.

By some stroke of luck it is unlocked. You both make it inside, slamming the door behind you and locking it. You can see that there are at least 8 zombies battering the clinic's door. The noise they make is attracting more from down the street.

You ignore them for now, trying to grab whatever looks useful. You and Raj both lack medical training, so you mostly have to guess on what is worthwhile. Once you have your haul, you check the door again, but the zombies have not dissipated.

What now?

Stay close with Raj.
Lay low and wait for the zombies to thin out, while studying their movements in the silent shadows. Make an immediate plan (getting back to our base)
Make a short term plan (for tonight/tomorrow)
And make a long term plan (the next week or two, if we make it that long.)
