You are Lieren, the primarch of the emperor's second Legion of Adeptus Astartes and father to its legionaires, greatest scion of the village of Nothing. Heroic hunter and philosopher, friend of humanity and the oppressed, sworn enemy of wicked spirits and devils, betrothed to the ancient vessel Kanzeon, spreader and protector of prosperity, slayer of tyrants and grand architect of the Long-Jian, Grandmaster of the psykerist sect "The wanderers in the fog", the Great hunter of the wilds and teacher of the brothers of the panther, Writer of the Journey, Slayer of the foul tyrant Nitya Sinha and witness to the just execution of the black iron king's bride, Avalokiteśvara, caried out by her own sisters, Kanzeon and Mari.

Having ended the greatest threat posed against humanity upon Shangrala, and freed a second of Kanzeon's sister, the studious Al-uzza, you left your noblest son Dae-Hyun to be recover and be freed from the shell of his dreadnaught while you left behind the known world of Shangrala, to make contact with the mysterious Zoroast peoples, disguising yourself as an excited tradesman and awefilled adventurer, you and your legionaires, joined by Kanzeon and aided secretly from the mists by the Aeldari host lead by the journeywoman Carys, investigated the society and culture of the disparate Zoroast states and where necessary pruned them of corruption and wicked men. Tyrants were hung, and for a short time, you found a measure of peace teaching your sons the techniques of your three martial arts and guiding the blessed amongst them into accepting their gift of psykerism, unhounded and unbothered by the earthly ambitions and manipulations of the chaotic powers, meeting only minor cults festering unseen amongst the thousands of faiths followed by the Zoroast people.

But, once more, the shadows of the primordial tyrants was cast before the sight of your kind golden eyes, and you were drawn into action against their mortal agents and thralls once more, having found a great temple of the corrupted faith known as the Spenta directly over the resting site of Kanzeon's sister Anahita, and discovered a new breed of humanity in the form of the Angra.

And while the majority of these Ox like men were corrupted to serve the malevolent powers of the warp, there existed peaceable tribes of the uncorrupted, demure pacifists who were hunted and mistreated by both the Zoroast and their own corrupted Kinfolk.

Deciding immediately that you could not let such abhorrence continue unchallenged, while Kanzeon lead a squad of your sons into the earth to reach Kanzeon, you gathered the majority of your space marines to find and guard the innocent yet unmaddened Angra, so they may be taught how to defend themselves.

And taught more importantly how to fight, so they may never again be oppressed and slaughtered for the crimes of their cousins.

The largest and most hardy of the bulls amongst these tribes were personally trained by yourself, while the rest were taught by your sons, primarily those who already had experience in command, the officers of the army of your blood. And, as few of the Angra, especially amongst the free and pure clans, could possibly endure a training session with you even if you held back greatly, you spent most of the time observing them in their day to day life and their new training, having learned their guttural, braying tongue after spending a night with them around the fires they lit in pits of the earth and covered with dried skins to hide the smoke.

You did not, at first, know exactly why you were studying these humble, nomadic people so closely and diligently, but it soon became apparent to you as you watched them carry on with their lives and fended off raiding parties of the corrupted kin and met new tribes and clans of the pure strain of the Angra.

You were searching, subconsciously, for the cause of their cousin's corruption. You had noticed, that every culture on Shangrala bore a weakness to the temptations of dark powers, culturally and societally. The Long-Jian desire for many forms of mastery and innate poetic elegance and expected courtly graces and social orders and the old Yan nobilities abominable excesses, the Vishnu's warrior lifestyle and honor bound way of life and unparalleled tenacity , the Shuni's strong faith, strong familial loyalty and trust, and sorcerous blood, The bask's nobility's tendency to stagnancy and how cheerfully they met hardships. All good, even virtuous qualities men could and should possess, but easily twisted into something foul and immoral by the temptations of the self named gods of chaos.

And, for the Angra, the quality that rendered them open to those temptations, were their stark traditionalism, similar to the bask, and oddly enough their wariness of technology beyond simple stone tools and wares the like the peasantry of long-Jia were forced to use before your arrival one fateful eve.

This wariness, this fear, weakens them, but also forces them to be physically strong. It forces them apart from proper, ordered society and leaves them vulnerable to the whispers of evil spirits. And it is why, so many of their clans and tribes have become monstrous, anarchist cannibals that sweep across the plains like a tide of hungering locusts.

But this is easily solved. For, the Angra are much like the tiger folk, they can be shaped and taught, they are not born ludites just as the tiger folk were not born barbarians and cannibals but rather lead and taught to be monsters. All it would take for the same to befall the remainder of the pure Angra would be a single leader or usurpation to guide all of them into darkness. A tragedy you cannot allow.

So, while your sons train the young of the tribes, you ride forth, teaching them of the Journey and its wisdom and meeting with the elders of each clans, who are all greying and weakening with age. Then, through skillful and well worded debate, convince them one by one of the benefits of technology and higher culture. Most are stubborn, set in their ways, and snort and bellow and flare their nostrils as they argue with you, hiding behind folk belief and tradition to explain their hesitance to accept your gifts and wisdom.

So you convince them. Through medicine that saves the young children of a clan beset by plague, denying Na Gou a minor prize, or showing a tribe hounded by their corrupted, traitorous cousins the power of the various forms of firearms fielded by your sons of your design or not, or helping a starving clan till fields and produce the same fertilizer and chemical treatments you used to end the famine that weakened Long-Jia at your birth. Soon, when you enter into a clan's grounds, you are met with approval and pleading calls for your gifts of martial training, technology and knowledge. And so, within a fortnight the tribes that once were on the brink of damnation or annihilation, have formed together and left behind their ignornant past.

And are ready to leave behind the stained legacy created for their kind by their traitorous kin. Who, for all their failings and animalistic tendencies, gathered as their now more civilized and learned kinfolk had done under your guidance and command. Which was impressive, considering the barbaric tribes each followed different gods. But, when your head is offered as a prize, perhaps even the squabbling, most malevolent of sibling spirits ancient and spiteful can set aside their difference to make a combined effort to claim it through a mortal proxy.

It shall not matter, for even if every ox headed warrior is blessed by their vile patron, they will be no match for valor and steel will of your sons.

Nor their great firepower and martial talents.

The corrupted Angra, whose luddite beliefs and harsh way of life lead into the open arms of the discordant patriarchs, shall befoul and taint this land no longer. For the heart of their corruption, the gathering of the broken tribes, shall be crushed beneath your heel without remorse.

But, even though they are weaker than your sons, and wield clubs and spears while they wield laser rifles, dark light lances, Bolters, Plasma cannons, and the various other forms of advance killing tools you have created, one can never be overtly cautious when riding to battle.

Especially when the opponent they face gives their service to evil spirits

How will you approach the coming battles, Lieren?

>Have your sons join with the Pure Angra as they ride to aid Arash Zaandia in claiming his master's throne, so they are not shot on sight.

>Leave your sons to decimate the unsalvageable Angra population, while you lead the Pure Angra into battle for Arash' benefit and teach him the true might of Long-Jia

Think our sons can handle both jobs, the spenta could have quite a few surprises in store plus I'm not liking the odds of the zorost by themselves fighting daemon engines with steel age militaries even if the daemon engines are primitive.

Calling the vote now.

Have your sons join with the Pure Angra as they ride to aid Arash Zaandia in claiming his master's throne, so they are not shot on sight.:8

Take advantage of your brand, and draw the Angra hordes into open and undefendable territory. Where they shall then be crushed by their more civilized cousins and your sons:11

Delegate both the leading of the Angra and the destruction of them to your sons, as you journey back to make sure the Spenta temple is destroyed in the chaos to come:5

Total votes:16

So Lieren will first split his present forces, sending some of his sons to fight alongside the Pure Angra who move to aid Arash in his usurpation so they are not killed on sight, then taking advantage of his brand, draw the Angra hordes into an open and undefendable battlefield to crush them with the remainder of his Astartes in a single decisive (And completely unfair) battle

Playing fair is when you have no tricks to play or need to win.

However, it is clear to you, that the still barbaric and chaos enthralled Angra are remarkably stupid. And even if they are blessed by their repugnant "gods", they are still armed with the simplest and most crude of weapons compared to your sons, who are equipped with armaments and armor forged through knowledge and advance methods preserved from the era of humanity's highest peak thus far. Taking every precaution possible, is common sense, and to not do so against the slaves of darkness is utter folly, but even though you have yet to reach the pinnacle of tactical genius embodied by the legendary generals and warlords of the present era, such as Yin Lei or the sadly departed Yan Zihao, your great work to usher in prosperity and end tyranny has necessitated your study and on field experience with the ways of battle and deeper strategy.

But even an utter novice or a humble farmer taken and given the regalia of a general, would be able to realize what is all too readily apparent to you. Your forces hold an overwhelming advantage, greater than any battle you have taken part of before, even those foolhardy bandits who attacked you in the days of your tenure as the administrator of the Gao lands. The Angra are naturally stronger than mundane men, than baseline humanity. However, so were the cloned hordes of Nitya Sinha, and they were similarly equipped. They only remained a threat because of their sheer, all but immeasurable advantage of numbers.

Which the Angra do not have. All they have, is the potential to earn the attention and favor of the foul spirits they worship. And there is no guarantee they will lend these brutes their power or even "bless" them with their notice and watch their struggles in attempting to claim the prize promised for your death or corruption. They would become more troublesome, if they were given a boon by their "Divine" patrons, but as the war against the butcher, the hunt for the lord of the evernight, the scouring of the bask lords, and the burning of the messenger in the flames proved the tides of the great sea are not so indomitable and even the greatest of the beasts that crawl from the shores of the Empyrean can be subjugated and slain.

You look at your hands, contemplating how often they have proven that daemons and the moral, spiritual and mental corruption they embody can be bested and defeated. For, how many have these hands of yours personally subdued and executed? A proud smirk graces your features as you look towards the setting sun, as your sons stand at formation alongside the trained and tutored Angra you have visited and aided. Astarte and Angra both awaiting your next command as you look through the fog and towards the seemingly endless horizon.

For a moment, you imagine the shadows of six great figures befouling it, like mildew on an aged painting.
Cont
>>
>>5266165

And so, your smirk turns into a tenaciously cocksure grin, inviting the beings that cast those imaginary shadows to take their best shot and aim for your head.

"Arash Zaandia is in the process of rising against his lord, seeking his throne. This is a righteous usurpation, for the king he served is a tyranny by way of apathy, indolence and extreme cowardice" You explain, arms crossed and iron hued hair lifting and flowing on the wind like the mane of a dragon in flight, the scar on your cheek revealed through the light of the setting son as you grin only grows larger and more confident "I had planned for this, of course, as it serves not only Long-Jia but mankind itself that a more virtuous ruler takes the reigns of these lands. As was our assassination of those sects I deemed..."

You pause, seeing your father's visage in the rays of sunlight cascading upon you and shake your head, the bitterness of your oath and its necessity returning to sour your tongue enough to draw a sigh out of your lips.

"a risk of becoming a subversive element against the peace and order I and so many others have sweat, wept and bled to bring about" You calmly state as you take a single step forward and close your gold eyes "To ensure the Angra we've raised from their humble and brutish roots can integrate and survive in the society that shall be established from the ashes of the old, they shall prove their humanity and worth by aiding the heroic rebel in his cause, as the Vishnu once did in my own liberation of the Long-Jia heartlands from the cruelties and wild and abhorrent excesses of the Yan nobility"

"They will be shot on sight" One of your son's drawls, drawing his combat knife against the gauntlets of his armor, having chosen to carve bull horn's over the knuckles to further decorate his personal regalia "For these Zoroast, have not been shown the way of the Journey and still think all of these bull men are the same as their feral counterparts and that they are some breed of monster rather than a strain of true humanity. But, I'm sure you're aware of that danger, my Primarch. For nothing escapes your notice, as I have become all to aware"

He is Hector, taken from Creti stock. He refers to his gambling habit and rivalry with Chul-Moo when he speaks of nothing escaping your notice.

"Of course, the majority of our forces will be present to ensure they are not butchered by the same men they ride to the aid of" You say with a nod, subtly showing your approval of your son's decision to raise his voice and point out an apparent flaw in your plan without disgracing you or himself by insinuating that you were so foolish as to allow such a flaw into your plan to begin with or raising his voice brashly and insultingly. A sign that he, has began to adapt to your adoptive culture. Your smile grows less brazen and fills with a parental warmth in its stead.
cont
>>
>>5266169

"A wise decision, venerable father" Hector says, clearly relieved that his assumption had proven correct, though it would be obvious it would be to anyone who knew you but there is no reason to point out such a trifling fact, especially in front of his brothers.

"Yes, the extermination of the degenerated Angra clans can be carried out with but a fraction of our current numbers, with fifty at my side, I could see them wiped from Shangrala within an hour" You say, making no boasts and speaking no lies

"Which would leave a hundred and eighty six to help the civilized ones not get slaughtered" Chul-Moo chimes in, lifting his eyes away from the lenses of his helmet, which he sets upon his knee "Considering Dae-Hyun is undertaking a covert mission of some sort, and Nikephoros is leading an expedition to retrieve another Archeotech vessel"

"And that would be more than enough to win the war for Arash, but that is not your mission. You are to ensure the Angra are accepted and understood, to protect them so the Zoroast may recognize them as men and allies" You reply "It is unlikely any of you will need to fire a single round in this conflict, but witnessing it may yet prove to be a valuable lesson. One can never know when a sudden insight will reveal deeper wisdom"

And with that, your sons and the newly trained Angra warriors depart to join the annals of local history, while the fifty of your sons who you have kept under your direct command ride with you deeper into the plains and meadows controlled by the corrupted Angra.

Of course, your sons are not aware, that the brand upon your brow is what draws the primitive warriors from their stronghold in the earth, away from the natural walls and pits that would otherwise serve a tactical advantage or as a brief fortification if they remained within it. And while cleverer and more shrewd servants of evil spirits may exploit the weakening of the veil brought about by the presence of your accursed mark, most of them are too blinded by greed and ambition at the sight of it. And though there is no mystical beacon set amongst the stars, as was the case during hunt for Kamal Kannan due to the interference and sorceries of Jian Qi, you are able to lead the Angra from their strong hold by coming within site of their great camp, revealing your forehead and shouting insults and taunts at them in their native tongue. They, for a time, shout back threats, curses and promises to feast upon your entrails as you still live, until their shamans and seers explain to the common warrior and brute the meaning of the symbol carved upon your head and the reward that could be won should your head be offered as sacrifice to their cruel gods.

Claims which you all too readily support, which is what brings them spilling forth from their odorous warrens and guarded burrows. They only keep sight of you, as you slow your pace to allow them to remain just out of reach.
Cont
>>
>>5266172

Until you and your pursuers reach the open plains, where your fifty sons have been give an entire day to prepare. The once featureless, yawning fields of hardy grass and flat lands have been made into a trap filled gauntlet. Seeing the gruesome, sudden demise of the vanguard and most of the chieftains of the confederation of corrupted clans, only seems to encourage the Angra to charge forward with more fervor and excitment.

Charge directly into the fortified trenches dug by your sons, who rise from the mists like a host of vengeful spirits.

The battle is a slaughter, and does not last even half of an hour. The corpses of the Angra filled the craters created by the minefield and the stain the golden grasses of the plains that have survived the battle unburned red

It is a total victory. One even the old fox would admire.

What do you do now that the Corrupted Angra tribes have been ground into dust, Lieren?

Also, does Lieren really not match up to the Black General or Old fox?

I get that he's never really focused on practicing or learning warfare as a general and instead focused on spec ops spear thrusts but I'd have thought that he has the experience and aptitude to have been able to match wits with the black general on the field of war.

People that Lieren surrounds himself with tend to be incredibly skilled. Sometime they surpass even Lieren like Feng does. It makes sense because he hates being above humanity.

While Lieren does tend to have very skilled and incredibly talented friends, it would also do to remember that he's incredibly humble despite being a primarch.

And that that statement came from his own thoughts. Despite Lieren having a strong sense of logic and reason, his sense of humility tends to win out when he compares himself to others, especially people he admires and knows to be a master of their chosen profession/ field.

Also, remember the revelation/ fragment of enlightenment that awoke his psionic potential and decide what his unique ability would be

"The forces that plague this realm, be they material or immaterial, beasts or tyrants are results of excess and intemperance. I empower my allies who in turn empower me. The cycle is without end and beginning and with it's power these threats will be made unreal. For nothing is real but what you create and what we create is reality. A reality where the flesh is denied rot, the blade is denied blood, the flesh denied hedonism, and the mind denied manipulation"

And considering that Lieren's "Golden sea" has only continued to spread and connect to more souls, including Psionically potent Aeldari and he has only grown more psionically powerful from meeting magnus and exchanging energy with a Goddess. And that he isn't particularly shy about praising others...
>>
>>5266245
Oops, made a mistake. The revelation was "The forces that plague this realm, be they material or immaterial, beasts or tyrants are results of excess and intemperance. I empower my allies who in turn empower me. The cycle is without end and beginning and with it's power these threats will be made unreal. For nothing is real but what you create and what we create is reality. A reality where the rot is denied flesh, the blade is denied blood, the body denied intoxication, and the mind denied schemes."

Not much of a difference, but I'd feel like a prat if I didn't point it out, since what I posted was the original Write in prior to its writer editing it. It'd not only rude not to post the final product, but stupid, since it was what made it into the update
>>
>>5266245
It's the thing with using Lieren as THE objective narrator, since his eyes are conceptually the perfect sword of truth against any lie.

So if he says something is true or false, we've no real reason to not believe him.
Also, huh. I thought that the golden sea was a deliberate connection that needed to be pulled on to get dividends.

If it's a passive one, then every member of the network subtly and passively improves due to their connection to one another, or just to Lieren who in turn is improved by these connections in a paradoxical self feeding style.

Shit, that's some fridge logic I never considered.

QQ has a decent one about the pre-Sanguinius IX Legion, but I'm very torn regarding the legion's special ability. On one hand, eating something's brain and gaining all of their skills and memories seems OP as fuck, especially when applied to psykers, but on the other I really like the idea that if a less-willful marine eats the brain of one of his more willful, dead comrades, the dead one can take over the eater's body. Makes the whole "they've only had one Legion Master despite him being recorded as KIA multiple times" thing a lot more interesting than just "a new marine takes the name."

You know when we do join up with the Emps proper i kinda like the idea of Lieren disguising himself as a Custodes to keep up his tricky ways but also to observe other Primarch meetings on the quiet with his eyes. Give a fun chance for encounters to.

Agree with both, but with Kurze especially.

As was mentioned in a previous thread, the Sevetar books were great.
>>
>>5270195
As above, Vulkan because we can compare philosophies.
Curze because Curze.
Morty because he's an even bigger challenge than Perturabo.
Corax because that meeting will bring up some uncomfortable questions for both of us regarding how to be a good person in this setting.

I also want to call Leman and Ferrus back and apologize for our "disastrous" first impression, as least as far as Long Jia social conventions are concerned.
>>
Can we restore Konrad's smile and optimism anons?
>>
>>5270403
we can at least tell him "Just torturing everyone and scaring them shit less doesn't work long term. you got to build them back up better if you want change to last".
Honestly I can see Conrad being the only brother Lieren hates. He is one of the worst tyrants even if he grew up on a shit planet.
>>
>>5270408
>every time Lieren looks at him he'll see a horrifically broken person spiralling into madness,
I doubt he'll hate him per say instead of the existence of Hive worlds.
>>
>>5270421
Yeah but he's also one of the worst kind of tyrants. one who punishes all crimes with torture no matter the circumstance. the man single handedly scared a planet into submisson.
Lieren will most certainly pity him but he can not let his crimes go.
>>
>>5270427
Well we should understand his circumstances, trials and seek to change how he approaches problems. Fixing his future sight would be a primary objective because it is the cause of his cruelty and his warped vision of the world.

Not by any action of his own.
Also we'd end up wrecking more than we could fix and whatever the Journey is it is pragmatic and adaptable

But the question is.... Can we reform a tyrant?
>>
>>5270546
the answer is yes if they are good at heart and have good intentions, example being Yan zihao
>>
>>5270403
Would Lieren even try? He's everything he hates in a tyrant.
>>
>>5270619
He's his brother, so probably, also will depend on us voters and I think it'll be too interesting not to try
>>
>>5270605
Kurze is an edgy boy that goes out of his way to fulfill his visions of a dark future because he can't accept that there was a better way than torturing people
>>
>>5270622
He doesn't think there is a better way, and that is the difference between us. If Lieren can show him that fate isn't set then he can be saved
>>
>>5270626
Well, it'll be interesting if he can be redeemed
>>
So we'll need to bind his visions of the dark future. Or at the very least let him know that what he's seeing is the worst possible one and he should avoid causing it at all cost.

...... Or find a way to give him an upgrade so he can see other better futures.

Damn machine spirits

Calling the vote now. Sorry for the wait. Would've called it earlier today, but I got caught up in session 0 for a TTRPG game I just joined.. Enjoyed all the discussion, btw
Meet with Kanzeon outside of the mines to hear of Anahita's condition, and meet her, if she remains a friend of humanity: 7

Take your fifty sons, and while the war travels across the lands, personally see to the destruction of the Spenta temple, to keep them from unleashing their devil cages upon the lands:10

Explore the Angra warrens, sending your sons away so you can investigate the land for chaos corruption and Malevolent Qi:6

total votes: 14

So Lieren will explore the Angra warrens alone, searching for and destroying any corruption/ malevolent qi he finds, and then meet with Kanzeon, and confirm if Anahita is still a friend of humanity or not, and deliver a promise to meet with her if she is, before leading his sixty sons into scouring the temple of the spenta, to ensure no devil cages are unleashed upon the land

"Something feels wrong" Hector whispered, his voice scarcely heard over the shrieking winds rushing through the smoke shrouded valley that served as the site of massacre for the barbaric mutations of the "Angra", Bolter slung across his chest and one hand rapping against it in anticipation for further conflict. Chul-moo, one of his closest brothers even amongst the second legion sat on his haunches, idly tuning and adjusting his laser rifle, seeming to admire the strange and arcane technologies used in its construction.

"Reminds you of the rat ways, doesn't it?" Chul-moo barked, the hissing of his cybernetic lungs clear beneath his breath "A hive of foul mutants, strewn with filth and malignant odor. Don't fear for our genesire, brother, you've seen him in battle, haven't you? are at least sparred against him? Even if some remnants of that horde we crushed remains within the walls of that primitive settlement, Pater Lieren will grind it beneath his heel"

"I don't fear for our primarch" Hector snorted, shaking his head before remembering the lessons of etiquette he had received before the journey into the unknown regions of Shangrala "I would not insult him in such a way, for I respect him more than I cherish life. What I spoke of, is that the air here is...wrong, and not in the manner you speak of, Brother Chul-moo"

His brother astartes was silent for some time, rolling a piece of grass between his armored fingers.

"You're sounding like a psyker" Chul-moo chuckled "You're mind is wandering, creating threats where there are none. That unease is caused by the knowledge we stand before a site of great abomination and monstrosity. Like those sewers that took my lungs. Its your conditioning speaking, nothing more"

Hector said nothing, only looking towards the silent gates of the tribal city their latest opponents had been drawn from.

"You're right, I'm imagining danger where there is none, deceived by my own over tuned instinct" He said, more to ease Chul-moo and keep from drawing unwelcome scrutiny upon himself than actual belief, something in his gut told him this wasn't right, instinct growled in his ear that something was deeply, terribly wrong with this place, beyond the physical corruption of its late inhabitants. Something unnamable, something that he could not accept to exist beneath the same heavens as he while he still drew breath. Something so truly abominable and horrid, it made his eyes ache just to stare upon its resting place from a distance.

"Besides, our orders are to wait for father to return from his investigation. To ignore a direct command from our primarch would be...well we've gotten away with more insubordination than most other astartes could afford, but that is no reason to press our luck and risk drawing the ire of our genesire" Chul Moo laughed, placing a reassuring arm over Hector's shoulder "If you must worry, worry by keeping overwatch, as we were commanded"
Cont
>>
>>5270887

He wanted to say, that Lieren wouldn't be offended or angered by them leaving their posts to ensure his own well being, but Hector knew from experience arguing with Chul-Moo would just waste time, and end with either a migraine or a fist fighter. So he kept quiet, and kept his eyes trained on the city and its earthen walls, searching for the source of his disquiet, while the rest of his brothers held their posts, not moving an inch from the positions entrusted to them by their genesire.

The evil spirit lurking beyond the veil within the Angra warrens, was a lesser opponent than the devils you have faced before. Though it styled itself a lord and surrounded itself with pettier spirits and new born devils, the self proclaimed Shepard of barbarity was an easy threat to squash. Overconfident for its level of strength and lacking the patronage of any of the six known patriarchs of discord, you were able to best it with a single move, cutting its bovine head from its shoulders with a single strike, having snuck your blade beneath its raised arms to slice through its neck as you lunged towards it. But, its mere existence was a threat to the lands and your sons. It spread corruption through the idols it had demanded be constructed in its honor, decorated with warpstone and symbols of spiritual corruption, damnation and hidden malevolence. Idols whose destruction by fire you used to excuse the time you spent scouring the warrens of the corrupt Angra and battling the devil that had been summoned by their sinful, near animalistically brutal ways and threatened to incarnate upon the mortal plane if it had been allowed to gather power through sacrifice and mislead faith.

In a manner similar to the unseen master. You had little doubts it had been tutored by a similar beast, an ally to or even that spirit itself, in the manner which to gather power and strengthen its hold upon the material realm. Perhaps, if it had been allowed to gather its strength and consume the whole of the Angra subspecies into its worship, it would've risen as a scion of Jian Qi's endless manipulations and self defeating machinations. But, you had impeded that "destiny" by severing its head, and ending it ambitions quickly and decisively. Perhaps, even now, it seethed in impotent rage that it was denied its promotion and glory, knowing all to well the patrons whose favor it sought had not even deigned to so much as glance in its direction as it confronted you.

It would've been pitiful, if it was not a force of active malignance and evil. The journey back to the valleys of mine and quarries, where the Spenta temple sits nestled in the center of, is peaceable. Primarily because the only Angra that remain in the region are aligned to you and your goals, and that the Zoroast are a sensible and logical people even if they are nearly as religious as the Shuni or Bask and as such know not to bother, threaten or even approach a band of fifty armored giants riding together

That, and any general foolish enough to challenge such a force, was kept occupied with the ongoing war that would most certainly lead to the untimely demise of any man stupid enough to think to challenge your valorous and indomitable sons.

To your relief, Your party is met by Kanzeon and the ten sons who accompanied her into the depths of mines at the border of the fief of Arda Sirwala. None of them are harmed or injured. The palable sense of relief washes over you like a cool breeze, lifting your lips into a thankful smile as you ride to meet your beloved, who stands with her arms crossed before your sons who know her to be their mother. Nikephoros and the other nine veterans take command of your fifty sons with as much ease as a bird takes to flight, leaving you alone with Kanzeon upon a lonesome hill overlooking the mountain honeycombed with mines active and abandoned and open air quarries.

"You're wondering about my sister" Kanzeon says, with a slightly teasing cheerful tone, doing away with all your fears arisen from your analytic mind dreaming up worse case scenarios and dreadful tragedies as you were kept apart from Kanzeon "There was never any reason to worry, Anahita is diligent and down to earth to believe in the false promises and temptations of thought form parasites. She...hasn't lost her sense, like Kuan im or Avalokiteśvara had, Like Mari and Al-Uzza, she slept through the eon's peacefully"

"I am glad, my fears did not become reality, losing another sister in law would've wounded my heart too gravely after all the sorrows I have endured as of late" You sigh, and Kanzeon pulls you into your arms, holding your head to her shoulder as you relax in her embrace "It is a mercy, that she was not ruined and taken by wickedness to be set against us"

"Anahita, as you said when poor Bai gave his life for the dream we share" Kanzeon whispered softly and comfortingly into your ear "Would not betray me, or us. And you're luck you came as late as you did, a day earlier and you'd have met me when I was very fucking furious"

You do not need to speak, to ask her why, and look to her with concern

"Those morons who abandoned her, the Spenta, they were close to reaching her. She had kept them at bay with her own automata, but their scouting parties had gotten way to close for comfort" She says, and noticing the chilling and hardening of your expression sighs, holding to you more tightly "And you intend to see them hung for that, threatening my sternest sister while we didn't even know she still lived"

"And I know you wish to do the same" Is all you say

"Of course I do, I've lost too many sisters this way to simply shrug my shoulders and forgive an attempt at subverting them" Kanzeon says with a smile that hides a truly terrifying quantity of anger

"But, I knew you and she would worry if I ran off to punish those bastards on my own, and besides, those brats closed their temple's gates the moment that war you plotted began so I figured I'd best wait for you to return to me, my scholar, so we may split that stronghold open and show those morons exactly what kind of enemy they made for themselves by trying to corrupt another of my precious sisters"

"And people say my smile is predatory" You say as you witness your betrothed's malicious grin "But, before we carry out our retribution against the thralls of our great enemy, how did"

"I told the lord of these mountains what we were searching for and why, told him about my past" Kanzeon says dully, with a smug smirk replacing her vicious grin "Turns out, that there was no need for deception and intrigue or sneaking into his mines, He just allowed us in when I told him my sister needed help. Sometimes you overplan things, love"

"I take the most efficient option so long as it aligns with my morals and beliefs" You defend yourself, which only makes Kanzeon giggle and hug you tighter, which makes you chuckle despite yourself, and return her embrace with equal vigor.

"I've seen you fight, deny it all you want, but you have the heart of a playwright and all their sense of dramatics" She sneers, running her fingers through your iron hued hair, twirling and brushing as she lifted her hands "Now, how shall we exact our revenge on those unappreciative bastards who left my sister to rust in the ground the moment her manufactorums ceased to function and only sought her out again so they could enslave and break her?"

Kanzeon's emerald green eyes, looked terribly dangerous narrowed as they were now, set above a smile that showed more fury than joy,

You look into her eyes, to calm and reassure her as you brush you hand across her cheek. She grabs ahold of it, and keeps it in place, as she nearly sits astride atop you.

"With the majority of my surviving sons escorting the Angra to aid our friend Arash, we are left with sixty space marines" You say in a calm, measured tone "You and I make sixty two. And while we are both worth more"

"Despite being a colony ship, I outmatch any vessel still in the quadrant, besides my sisters of course" Kanzeon boasts, leaning closer, her eyes seeming to glow "And you're just as dangerous and destructive as I can be"

"When I must be" You say with a nod as she places a hand upon you cheek and both of your hold the other's gaze, motionless for a moment "But, even lions can be devoured by a horde of rats"

"Tch" Kanzeon scoffs lifts away "You really adore that idiom, don't you? But, I can't argue against your decision to be cautious"

Her eyes settle on the brand on your brow, and she lifts her fingers to trace them over it, careful not to touch it, fearing she'll hurt you if she does.

"Especially since I couldn't bear to lose you" She purrs, wrapping both her arms around you once again.

"Nor I you, that is, why despite my great strength, I never take unnecessary risks" You say as you massage her back, to reassure her and soothe her

"That was one time!" You argue, laughing

While i am usually a fun of total destruction in case of chaos, the temple might have some human slaves in it. A physical and spiritual assault should break their forces, and allow us to see if they have another stronghold by looking around for information plus see if there are slaves.

I'm thinking Kanzeon, eldar, psychic sons, and the rest can clean up the Spenta with little to no issue and possibly rescue any prisoners or find useful information. Only reason why I don't advocate the bombardment is that possibility of survivors or useful information.
Lierens brand could cause the attacking force to suddenly have to start ripping through a daemonic incursion which may force Lieren after the fact to break his promise to dad so because of that he should hold back unless necessary, he can still observe and direct the forces from the reserve point, hell he could astrally battle in the warp to intercept warp fuckery without risking a warp breach.

While Kanzeon is correct, that the two of you as well as sixty of your noble warrior sons is more than any native force of men and arms upon Shangrala can resist, except perhaps the imperial armies of long-jia and the numerous weapons and vehicles of war you have given to them, the foe you face is not solely a material threat. The Spenta are a sect of sorcerer with a prospenity for caging evil spirits and devils in cages of irons. While they lack the high technology those enslaved to the dark whims and ambitons of the butcher king had access to, a devil cage is a devastating weapon even in its crudest form and the mystical thinning of the boundaries between the worlds of men and spirits brought upon by the curse embedded within the scar tissue of the mark set upon your brow by the will of all six known and active Patriarchs of discordant spirits will only allow them to create greater quantity of and more terribly powerful devil cages with which to unleash upon your astartes and the innocent men and women of the wider Zoroast lands. Or worse, allow the wicked spirits they cage within to manifest into the waking, material world before they are changed with spells and blood sacrifice.

However, that does not mean a direct assault cannot be performed. You are more than a physical foe yourself, being second in potency as a psyker only to your father and your brother magnus amongst those you have become acquainted with thus far at least. And your brand of pyskerism is considered strange by those who are your senior in the practice of wielding the force of ones own will and soul. Thus, while your direct presence upon the field against opponents who wielded the winds of the Emperyean would endanger not only your soldiers and the world, but also the oath of secrecy you have sworn to your father, you can still lend aid to your sons without actively being present and thus weakening the immaterial veil between reality and the immaterium.

You sigh heavily out of your nose, as your planning brings to mind several obstacle presented by the most efficient and effective means of carrying out a two pronged assault, divided cleanly between a physical and direct assault as Kanzeon advises and your sons would surely be able to carry out on their own. But, as a father and man, you feel it would be shameful to not lend aid to one's own men and especially one's own kin. Could you even call yourself a man, if you left your wife and sons to fight on their own? Which is why you will fight for them in the astral plane. But this is where the difficulties in this plan arise.

While your sons have thus far proven as loyal as sons are expected to be to their father, showing more filial piety than most men would, and would thus believe any excuse you concoct to explain why you will not take to the field, but rather lend support with psionic abilities and those of your sons blessed to share your gift, whom you will recall and reunite to partake in this endeavor.

A new difficulty arises, as your Aeldari friends who follow the journey and have given their lives, or at least their mortal vessels considering the Soul gems they all wear, for Shangrala and her people. But, the last you saw of them, Carys and Folant, and the other leaders of the force, spoke in vagaries of concerns and fears they held towards your sons. Or rather your father's teaching and the belief of humanity on terra concerning them. And you have seen the disgust, contempt and outrage your sons instinctively feel towards those they would consider as "Other". While you were able to lessen this xenophobia, through making them interact with variations of humanity and helping them forge lasting and true bonds with your adoptive tiger cubs to the point most of them no longer consider "mutants" so abhorrent to be exterminated on sight or hated just because they were different, they retain their outspoken hatred and disdain for aliens. or Xenos, as they refer to them, usually followed with filth or scum.

So while you are certain there is no one amongst your two hundred and forty seven sons presently in your company and command, would even think to harm a sub breed of humanity such as the tiger folk or terrorize and threaten a unfortunate cursed with a physical malformity by birth or exposure to the corruptive energies of the Empyrean, such as the surviving Yan descended from the late and great Yan Zihao, who all bare the all but peerless general's curious fox eyes, you are also certain that these sons of yours, who can be so gentle and caring, who have opened their minds to pursuits, hobbies and ambitions beyond fighting and dying to protect humanity and have grown all the closer to humanity for it, wouldn't extend the same protection to other races.

For, while they understand men come in many forms, they do not consider Xenos to be men, but rather beasts or monsters from how they have reacted to your stories of battling the Aeldari raiders and the lies you have woven to explain away the stranger opponents they have already met upon Shangrala. You can only imagine a volatile, and perhaps even deadly meeting, if you rely on the aid of the psykers amongst the Aeldari journey men. While there are psykers amongst the Wanderers in the fog, who are talented or skilled enough to be of use in this spiritual assault, many who are teachers and peers to the psykers amongst your astartes, you would be weaken your spiritual attack greatly if you did not call upon the power and mastery of the Aeldari psykers.

All of whom you considered friends. All of whom you would endanger by exposing to your sons, who have not yet learned that even alien life is of equal value to all others.

However, your sons are open minded, despite their programing and indoctrination your father thought to be a vital aspect of their augmentation and training.

Perhaps, he, like Kanzeon, holds the Aeldari in distrust for the actions and deeds of their long dead ancestors, for the chaos and damages they sowed across the galaxy through their careless excesses, that, when combined with their vast psionic potential, birthed the vile Se Nie whose birth tore the galaxy apart and ended the ascendant Era of old man kind.

Bitterly, you mentally note that, ancients such as Kanzeon and your father, have every reason to distrust the Aeldari, for they knew those decadent tyrants who doomed countless of their own kind to the greedy gullet of the Empress of transient pleasures and joys. Who destroyed the world they knew. Who lead to the demise or corruption of their sisters.

"Even if the Eldar of the Craftworlds have changed, they endanger themselves by going too far in the other direction. I'd speak more kindly of the Eldar, maybe even call them their proper name, if all of them Followed the likes of Carys and Folant" Kanzeon says, startling you as she approaches you from behind "And, you're worrying too much, your sons believe your words as if they were spoken by a god. They practically worship you, they have ever since you told them you were proud of them. Imagine, being created for a sole purpose, to be lead by the man they were remade in the shape of, in the honor of, you're their template, the ideal they strive to reach"

"And I have shown them naught by respect, approval and admiration of them and their deeds. I have fulfilled their dreams of being welcomed with open arms, and banished all doubts of their deepest held fears, that I'd find them lacking, that I'd hold them with disdain or think them unworthy of bearing my genetic code" You sigh, your own worries being banished as you breath them out "They are my sons, and they seek my approval and while it is readily and earnestly given, I have seen how they fear failing me, and fear falling out of favor"

"See, you were thinking too hard again" Kanzeon giggles, pulling on your ear "You always plan for the worst case scenario, despite, knowing, the probability of most outcomes leans towards neutral, even considering factors as volatile as xenophobia and fear"

"I will only expose my psyker sons to the Aeldari, the rest will only know that we're lending them aid with our powers" You decide, as Kanzeon lays against your back and braids your hair, to help further sooth and calm you, banishing what worries remain in your heart and mind

"Yeah, that's probably the prudent thing to do. I've seen what they can do, I must say, your father is one hell of a craftsman, to create not only you and your brothers, whose creation was far beyond the capabilities of the genetic code artificers of my time" Kanzeon says lackadaisically "And to create lesser copies of your genetic code, including portions of the Empyrean energies that suffice your unique physique and anatomy, is a sign of a true master of tampering with the genetic code"

She sighed and rested more of her weight upon your back

"Philotes and Albina would've loved your father" She sadly states, wrapping her arms around you

"I am certain they would've, he is a very easy man to love" You state with a warming smile "But I shall contact Carys, and allow my psionically blessed sons to meet the Aeldari and learn they are not our enemies"

"But may yet be your foes, someday" Kanzeon muttered under her breath

"Of course, and that not all Aeldari can be trusted, or even most, considering the chilly reception I had when I met with those who call Craftworld Kher-Ys their home" You agree

"Despite returning one of their own and saving them from a fate worse than death" Kanzeon grumbles as she moves her arms up to wrap them around your neck "Say, what are you going to tell your sons, to help break their coding and get them to accept the Aeldari as...well if not allies, than at least not as pest to exterminate"

A good question.

What do you tell your psionic sons when you convene with the Aeldari and Wanderers in fog, so they will trust the Aliens, Lieren?

>"Carys, and her followers, have aided me and thus aided in maintaining and ensuring the prosperity of humanity upon Shangrala. I know alien forms of life have wronged humanity and betrayed us in the past. But these Aeldari, have abandoned their homes and societies to become friends of humanity"

>"Alien, Xenos, other, these terms mean nothing. They are your equals, as they are mine. As is the worm in the soil, and my father on distant terra. All life is deserving of respect, for all life is of equal worth. Besides, they follow the Journey as well and hold me with great admiration. They have trusted their lives to me, as you have"

>"Tell me, from where does your distrust and hatred sprout? Is it your own mind, or a mechanical whisper disguising itself as instinct true? Hating another for their birth, is foolish. To condemn that which you do not know, is to be blind. All are equal beneath the heavens, so why hate someone who has given you no just cause to hate? Is that contempt your own? Or words whispered in your ear by another? Decide your own path, and choose your beliefs. I cannot do so for you, and only tyrants would attempt to"

>"Carys is a friend of mine, as are all of her disciples. She risked her life to share my dream of a world where all men prospered, free of oppression and needless hardship. They have given away all they held dear, to follow the Journey, believing my words as you do. If any amongst you think them to be our enemies, to their them untrustworthy or worthy of death alone, then I shall debate you, and remind my impudent son why I am known as a great and wise Philosopher"

Whether they open their eyes should be up to them, even if we give them a firm nudge by debating their choice.
In the end, we can only truly defend Carys and company, as the Eldar as a whole are... spotty.

Actually, let me try my hand at a write-in
>”My sons, every life is equal in worth, and I would ask you to overcome your instinct toward these that you call Xenos. But first, let me ask you a question. How do you define humanity? The straight forward answer would be a human, and all its genetic variations. However, another could be that a man is one that is capable of introspection, thought and choices. I know you wouldn’t hurt an Angra or Tigermen purely because of their appearance, but would you do the same to one of these Xenos, without judging their character or spirit first? Like all men, they are capable of being tyrants or virtuous. Not only that, but the mistakes of an ancestors do not belong to their descendants, unless they continue that folly. Judge a man by who they are, not what they are. That is to say that there isn’t a reason to being wary, for it is harder for a virtuous man to come from a people that idolizes sin after all.”
>”The Eldari, like humans, organize in different ways, some more virtuous them others. Almost all are still haughty, seeing themselves superior to the rest of the galaxy, and even refusing to see danger or change their ways. Carys and her followers, they have abandoned the ways of their people to follow the Journey, risking their life and wellbeing for a dream of a future where all of humanity, no matter their faces, will prosper without oppression. They are friends of mine, and have fought against the Vishnu, side by side with the Wanderers in the Fog.”
>”But only a tyrant would force their path upon other, and I would be the biggest of them if I demanded my own children to listen to their parent without question. So I ask of you to think on what I say, and to debate me should you disagree with me, no matter how much”

>"My sons, though you may groan and roll your eyes at another retelling of my duel with Cui Fu. It contains a lesson that I feel is pertinent. As you know my sons my eyes see all, I can read the souls of those who fall beneath them, this was no different for Cui Fu. What made him different though my sons, is that when I read his soul I saw two things I thought impossible. A man who held the virtues of strength and loyalty above all else, he could not even conceive moving against those who ruled him even though he saw them as weak and unworthy; Just as saw that those different from himself as weak and sub human, he could not conceive that those he saw as weak and different were in fact both strong in other ways, and wanted similar ends to his own. This brings me to the second thing I thought impossible, pieces of his soul objected to it's own decessions. It agreed that Gao was weak and beyond saving, it did not agree that it was more virtuous to abandon it's loyalty to it's master in the face of someone you sought to make his people strong."

Despite his inclination to leave, the most hospitable vendor implored him to try a sample of his wares. Wary and hesitant, he partook of a small, blotched melon, ripe with creases and scars. Sit our pysker sons down and time for a quick memory share, show the battle of us vs the Dark Eldar lord. But also show the rescue of the Gem. Show us talking to it leaving out some details, give them gentle perspective.

Finally show them the Eldar coming here and exiting those Eldar whom now work alongside us, show them how we know the truth and that the Journey reaches all even those Eldar wise enough to listen, name how they aided us in the past.

The Journey welcomes all, while not all life is worth sparing they are worth giving a chance. Humanity will be united upon the Journey and those whom join us and follow its tenants in deed as well as thought may we'll join us in the light of progress

right now, >>5282042, but if we continue to refine our golden orb yes. theoretically speaking xianxia does not have an end point per say, meaning we would be beyond the 40k power scale should we train all day and night for years hyperbolic time chamber when?

as far as we know it simply requires soul energy, and that is where the feeding of psykers into the throne comes into play
>>
>>5282042
If the Throne is a soul container. We could abandon our current physical one to fill it up. Thus becoming an even bigger self renewing flame/ lighthouse! Our weakening of the walls of the materium simply means we can burn ever brighter!

That would be an epic end game. To become the astronomican spreading protection and the Journey throughout the Imperium.

How do you think Lieren would fit into the Horus Heresy? Methinks he is personally targeted for Termination from the onset.
>>
>>5282688
I think the emperor realizes pretty quick that early on, he wouldn’t be able to take down Lieren with the imperial army as is.

So either Emps postpones his reunion with Lieren to speed run enough forces to win, or takes the good luck and uses Lieren and his resources to expedite the crusade as much as possible, and maybe eliminate Lieren when he and his forces and legion become to worn out to resist.
>>
>>5282692
Ah I should have specified targeted by chaos and the traitors, not by Big E.

You right though, Big E wouldn't be able to take down Lieren easily at all, especially when Lieren has those truth-seeing eyes.
>>
>>5282688
Horus does something similar to what he did with Jaghatai and launches him as far away as possible because he could instantly identify the traitors.
>>
>>5282688

An all assault on any Shangrilan colonized space, for reach with a spearhead Shangrila. Extermination and looting everything are the objective. Preferably betraying Lieren and the majority of his forces before this attack.
If the betrayal and the attack are sudden and a surprise, they have a chance to get the two prizes (Lieren and Shangrila). Of course who gets the prizes ? That's where any betrayal plan of the traitors against Lieren will backfire, because anyone that gets the prizes is in a far better position than the rest of the traitor brothers. Unless they are all okay on bending the knee to Horus even on this question.
>>
>>5282688
Well we won't be terminated like how the primarchs in current lore are alledged to have been at the end of the crusade, mainly because malal is working with old lore and ignoring some of the newer stuff. However if enough pressure is put on the emperor for our tech heresy, or if the xenos cooperation gets out, then we should probably worry

>And I'm really excited for his meeting with Two particular word bearers...
They're something I'm hotly anticipating. Typhon too, since he was turned independently and really early.

I think I've finally got my mojo back after my power had began to wane. First long update in awhile. Its 11 posts long. Not the largest update in the quest, but its much larger than what I've written for a few months.

Though Carys' eyes had been burned to ash and boiling aqueous ichor from being showered in unparalleled good fortune to be one of few to witness the opening of the eightfold path denounced and turned inwards upon itself, she could still see the world in blazing golden radiance and gentle silver shimmer. Indeed, the Former farseer who denounced both her path and craftworld, could see two worlds at once, behind the azure bandages she wrapped tightly around the disfigurement she wore proudly as the price she paid to share in Lieren's flash of enlightenment. Before her, the twisted and malign fields of Sha'eil and all its repugnant and treacherous inhabitants sprawled out and scampered over the arid lands of the region her humble teacher now wandered, in search for salvation and respite for one of the numerous sisters of his bride far more aged and ancient than himself, and with a far more cynical worldview and brusque demeanor. Indeed, some of her younger adherents, who had, perhaps joined her pilgrimage with less forward planning and thought than the more veteran members of her oft shamed and denounced cadre of self made outcasts, had began to wonder if perhaps the Tale of Lieren the wise and Kanzeon the sleeping maid of the wilds, was not a cosmic retelling of Lady Isha and Kurnous, a reweaving of the countless strands of faith that were once her solemn duty to observe so the path of fate may be shifted and changed.

Carys, had taken to pondering such fanciful delusions, to pass time when there was no other work to devout herself to, no virtuous duty to undertake no matter how petty or grand. For, even the smallest generosity and most miniscule cruelty could ripple outwards and effect the future in ways scarcely able to be understood, even by one as trained in the art precognition as herself. This was understood between the adherents of the Journey and those who followed the path of warlocks, though their view of this universal truth deviated drastically from one another. Her former peers, only sought the destination, while the worldview of the Giant of Nothing focused more on the path and means. Carys preferred the latter, for while she knew that every action she took had consequences, she had come to find death and the promised torments of she who thirsts had held no sway of her heart and decision making since the fateful day she witnessed Lieren's psionic awakening. For, even when she dies, inevitably, her actions in life will continue to affect all other things, no matter how small and impact they made while she still drew breath. Even the outcome they brought about, no longer held weight in her mind, only that she acted morally, virtuous and treat others kindly and generously without a thought. As the Journey instructed.

Who could say, the fate of the human child who she entertained like a street performer with the merest display of her psionic power, a girl who held a latent gift as a pysker and hid it away in fear, dreading its discovery more than the war raging around her. But, the gesture had allowed the girl to realize she was not a cursed child born by a devil's seed, and that she was not alone in the vastness of the world.

Carys smiled upon this recollection, as she sensed a familiar presence appear by her side. Several in fact, emerging from nothing as if they had cast aside a powerful veil. Her smile only grew, as she heard her disciples joyfully greeting their counterparts amongst the Wanderers in the fog sect. The gusto and cheer with which they spoke their greetings and with which they were returned, showed the strength and truth of the bonds of friendship and comradery struck between them. She listened in complete silence and stillness, as her disciples met with the flock raised by the soul who had crawled back to life a thousand times and slipped from the jaws of Daemons just as often. Or, as he was known in his current incarnation, Guozhi, Grandfather Guozhi by most.

Carys frowned as she directed her attention to the elderly monk, who was accompanied by the twin spirit banishers but not the blind crone who shared her talent for spiritual site. At his side, a carefully polished skull was hung, with black pearls stuck in its sockets. A fragment of the reformed Necromancer lingered within its depths, clinging to existence even now, after he sacrificed nearly the entirety of his essence in a desperate attack against the husk soldiers spawned by the misbegotten bastard son and daughter of Kharneth. In the warp, Carys saw the skull rattle and whisper the dark secrets its owner kept in life, dreaming as its disparate parts were drawn back to the core kept and guarded within his mortal remains. A small, flickering flame followed them, another soul that had , thus far escaped the predations of warp predators. Yet, the old human seemed unaware of this and the other souls who remained wading in the golden sea of light and hope cast by Lieren's own ever burning spirit, who somehow not only continued their existence unmolested by the hunger and avarice of daemons and indeed treated them as their prey with the same fervor and glee many of them had taken to hunting beasts of flesh and blood in their lives. Something that should not be possible, but through trust and belief, had been made true.

Carys could not but help to feel smug, remembering how often she was scolded, insulted and all but threatened by her kinsmen for following a "Mon'keigh superstition", and now being proven right in her choice to devout herself to a Journey without end or purpose besides that which she herself chose.

In fact, Carys was so proud and astounded by the sight of these departed friends of Lieren's, that it took her a moment longer to notice something truly disquieting within Guozhi.

The ember of his life was flickering, fading away. If he was lucky, he had a few more years left as the sage who revealed to the golden sage his talent as a philosopher and teacher. Soon, he would once more be cast into Sha'eil. Carys felt fear trickle up her back, soaking and taking root into her heart, fed upon worry as she envisioned the friend she had made upon Shangrala being torn apart, devoured piece by piece.

Or worse yet, captured at last by the changer of ways. Guozhi, immediately, noticed her distress as he pulled himself up to herside, sitting himself upon the windswept cliff where she and her own flock meditated for days, waiting for the arrival of Lieren and his gifted sons.

"There is no need to worry, oh most benevolent and fair of the maiden spirits" Guozhi laughed, hiding a dry cough beneath it, refusing to give up his jovial manner and dignified appearance in such a show of weakness "All things must one day fade and vanish from this world, Carys of Ulthwé, Nothing is eternal even within the heavens. But, even when all I am, down to the last mote of spiritual essence that carries my will is reduced to...no, is made less than dust along with any sign of my existence, my influence across the ages shall resonate to eternity. Nothingness. The void. I made peace with it. One day, I shall be caught, and made pay recompence for all my wily escapes from the jaws of devils and clutches of malevolent gods who think themselves cunning. As all my brothers were once caught"

Carys still said nothing, a storm of emotion rippling through her in a manner that would be found distasteful amongst the Aeldari of craftworlds if not dangerous. But she remained in control of her emotions, for it would be greatly foolish to allow them to come to master their host instead.

"I can only hope, I shall escape once or twice more, so I may witness the results of Lieren's grand yet selfless ambitions, the dream we have all come to share for a prosperous future and a benevolent world" Guozhi sighed, before snickering and smirking as he set the skull of Cai between the two of them, as Carys counted the spirits that gathered, as if they to had been summoned by the Giant to witness this potentially lethal meeting "And I must admit, I've been keeping away from my good friend and fierce rival on the board of Go, Wenyan of Nothing, since I fear he has infected me with the desire to see "Grandchildren' As old Guozhi, Har..Har"

"Though the efforts to set my mind and heart at ease have failed, I appreciate the attempt, my equal and friend" Carys sighed softly, turning to face the aged monk with a kindly expression nearly rendered sisterly by the depth of affection and care she held for the man

"Fear is natural, worrying for that which one cares deeply for, is logical. To banish such things from myself, is to lessen myself. I fear for you, because I know the gods shall be cruel beyond reckoning if they caught you, who through his guidance and discussion, lead Lieren to becoming their truest and most stalwart fo...enemy within either reality"

"I did nothing of the sort!" Guozhi barks, slapping a hand upon the top of his comrade's skull "You know as well as I, Lieren chose and followed his own path, and came to despise the gods from what those gilded yet gentle eyes of his saw, scrutinized and thus understood to a degree no other could claim to hold. It's bad enough the man himself is so humble to insist upon calling me, a man he has surpassed in all ways, as his teacher, master or grandfather. And I fear no such torture, for I will not be aware of it when they catch me. I feel I shall become senseless and mindless with fear, when I at last meet the unpleasant fate old Jian Qi has been devising for me when I first refused his temptations many lifetimes before, Harhar"

"Your conversation with him in Gao's palace, rippled outward" Carys reminded impishly, tapping her staff upon the liverspotted head of the last Warden of mysteries "And so changed the course of all things. And you really must stop being so tight lipped about your past, especially around Kanzeon, it enrages her, and despite her motherly character, her fury is something to avoid"

"Bah, she wouldn't raise a hand to me, despite her fierceness and in spite of her bluster" Guozhi boasted, before his demeanor becoming solemn and his expression greatly sad, nearly stricken with worry like a victim of a fatal plague "And we should both be worrying about the safety of you and your students, Carys, I know you have become as devoted to the Journey as the likes of the black general or the slug of Gao's eunuch son, and thus know death is not something to fear or escape, but this meeting Lieren has engineered and decided upon is"

"Dangerous? Oh I wouldn't have ever considered it as such, he is only bringing a force of augmented warriors genetically altered with to become his sons, implanted with cybernetic and vatgrown organs, pumped with hormones, and indoctrinated to despise alien life and many other things so they may more effectively wage a genocidal crusade against the galaxy to reusurp the position their race once held upon it" Carys blithely answer, toying with her hair as Guozhi made a glum expression like he was sucking on an salted plum "And this is before taking into account that these same men, were taken from societies on a world consumed by war and abused and destroyed to the point that any life sustaining itself upon it is truly a show of the admirable stubbornness of Mankind"

She giggled and kicked her legs up and down as her voice turned to a playful singsong

"Nooo, I couldn't imagine I would be endangered in the company of such men, who were reforged for the singular purpose of warfare and mass destruction on a universal campaign of slaughter and conquest!" She laughed merrily as Guozhi muttered in annoyance under his breath

"If Kanzeon would let go of her grudge against your ancestor's terrible folly and repugnancies, I think she and you would become fast friends, at least through a shared fondness for mischief and ridicule" Guozhi groaned, pinching at the wrinkled skin upon his brow

"Sweet Kanzeon prefers sarcasm and cutting wit, I merely seek emulate Lieren's playful manner of exposing flaws and weaknesses in the arguments and philosophies of others. I am not as much of a troublemaker as my reputation upon the craftsworld would believe" Carys said, mocking offense to make Guozhi laugh "But yes, I've been trying to befriend her, but her prejudices against the past are stronger than any friendly words, even if she has softened due to my great admiration for "Her scholar"

"Kanzeon is a jealous creature, in spite of her great age and wisdom, and I only speak this because I am well outside of her reach" Guozhi cackled like a jackal "And I suppose, I do worry too much, for you Aeldari, death is not the end. Those miraculous gems you hold, will preserve your soul, and grant you a longevity beyond imagining"

Carys said nothing to the old sage, but she knew her unspoken response was heard by him. What use is there in clinging to life? It was one of the first and most important teachings of the Journey. Her life would end, no matter what countermeasures or schemes she created to foolishly attempt to prevent it. The infinity circuit, a paradise fortress against the great universal fear of her people, now stood daunting on the horizon, a prison cast in shadows and wraiths who refused to relinquish their hold upon their material existence.

"They'll arrive soon. Lieren and his sons" Guozhi stated morosely "I know which ones he brings, for I had the honor of teaching them the subtle arts of psykerism by their father's own request, though I not as often as I would've wished and their studies were interrupted by necessity. But, while all of his sons hold to the journey as if it had fallen to their laps from the heavens carried by a beam of golden sunlight, I am not certain if they will not"

"Shoot me and my followers on sight out of reflex?" Carys asked comfortably "How did they react to the strain of Humanity, Lieren chosen to shelter and adopt as his own kin, when he introduced them as their brothers and sisters"

Guozhi's chest lifted and his youthful blue eyes blazed with a confidence few men held even in the pinnacle of their youth.

"Ah, how foolish I was! How Blind I have become. Age clouds these eyes of mine, that have observed the passage of time longer than most men could possibly envision!' Guozhi declared

"You and your followers were never in any danger! For Lieren's dexterous tongue shall cast aside the prejudice and xenophobia his father has seen fit to teach to his valiant sons! I shall remain by your side, to observe and join in the assault of the great fortress of those who have sold themselves to the whims of the most wicked and evil of spirits"

"To laugh at Lieren's children, like the old fox you are" The young human known as Zixin snorted, who had remained silent despite listening closely to the conversation between the old monk and blind Farseer, even though he was blessed with an unusual talent for precognition himself.

"If they bully you, I'll break them" Meixiu said calmly, bundled in sashes and robes to keep out the harsh sands and winds from her delicate skin "Don't worry, Auntie Carys, I'll make sure you're safe"

The friendly conversation between Wanderer and Aeldari which had endured the grim conversation between Carys and Guozhi, ended then. As all present knew the Young girl was the strongest amongst them and could easily make good on her threat to "break" the Astartes riding to meet them upon this cliff's edge, if she were so pressed to.

Carys dared not look into her future. Last time she did, she saw a fate she had avoided the moment Guozhi found her surrounded by the corpses of those villains who slew her parents. A future, where Meixiu, without a teacher, tutor or patron, through brute psionic alone, managed to defeat the soul stealer who once squatted in the darkened lands of sands and schemes at the moment of his triumph. A young woman aided by crude hedge sorcery, overcoming a centuries old sorcerer blessed by tzeentch at the moment of her ascension. And in more than one future that would never be, the orphan girl had succeeded and dethroned the ascendant Black King by her own innate power alone/

Meixiu was a truly terrifying little girl, despite her cheerfulness and warm personality
_

Through the fog and mist, the figures of Carys and her followers, and Guozhi and the strongest of the Wanderers in the fog sect, emerge from the gloom as little more than shadows. Yet, already, in the air you can sense the tension building, as your warrior son's well honed and naturally sharp sense immediately notice the differences in build, height and form between the psykers they know and the strangers standing beside them. And you would've been greatly disapointed if they did not notice the fragments of the Aeldari tongue spoken by your followers and Carys's. Immediately upon sighting the Aeldari, your sons are on edge, tense, and you can feel rage bubbling within them and seeping into the air like poison poured into the waters of a shallow well. They remain silent, but it is obvious they are only held back by the presence of the wanderers in the fog from opening fire and thus being recorded in terran history as the first of the Adeptus Astartes to shed the blood of another sapient species.

Their fingers twitch near triggers, their hands gradually drift towards the handles of knives and axes, the hilts of swords and sabers, the hafts of spears and staves. But they do not move to attack. They simply stop abruptly and stand ready to strike, a predatory aura of killing intent shrouding them all. Your bowels tighten and constrict as a icy chill drops, as you recognize Meixiu's unmistakable potency through the fog. Even though you specifically forebade Guozhi from bringing her along on this outing, due to her age, as well as her the lessons she was taking in the Chen Dao Accademy! You stare fiercely at the old man, who for once, actively avoids your piercing, burning gaze.

"Venerable Father" One of your sons speaks, after the one sided stalemate had persisted for nearly two minutes, as all of the Aeldari sit serenely in a meditative manner, while only Meixiu shows any aggression amongst the Wanderers in the fog, the rest of whom match the Alien Journeymen's posture and manner.

"Yes, Hyun-Shik?" You ask your son, who is of Sheowl decent and wears a long mustache of similar style of Lai Song, though only half of it is as long and full as the Lord of Cavarly's own, as the bottom right corner of his face had been seared off in battle in the Vishnu's blood soaked capital. The rest of your sons are silent, but poised to launch themselves in attack, returning to their killing instinct in the sight of that which is so clearly "Inhuman".

"There are xenos sitting amongst our civilian support unit" He hisses over the coms channel to keep from alerting what he and his brothers imagine as an extraterrestrial threat "We must ensure the safety of our fellow students in the arts of psykerism. These Eldar beings are treacherous and crafty, so we must strike quickly before they can manipulate and subvert the valuable minds of the cultivators you have raised"

You resist the urge to roll your eyes, and the urge to strike your son for his impudence. Lightly of course. A slap across the cheek to scold him for speaking ill of your friends, nothing more.

"Sergeant Hyun-Shik is correct, genesire" Rafaī́l Táphos, a lieutenant of Creti decent, with grey eyes and sunken cheeks whispers like a ghost creeping from its grave "Worse yet, the Eldar have a farseer amongst them, a dangerous opponent of considerable psionic strength, they should be your target, to ensure a quick demise of the leader of the Eldar band..."

"Aeldari" You correct gently, patting a hand on both of your bold son's shoulders, as they nearly break their necks turning to look at you, baffled and stricken by great shock by your correction. In an instant, all of your son's eyes are focused on your back as you smile the smile so many men have described as being uncomfortably close to that of a half starved fog panther.

But before the tension can raise any higher, or the confusion in your son aflict their minds like a fever, you step forward, pushing the fog away with a gentle form of the spirits touch technique to reveal the Aeldari and Wanderers fully as you hold your arms out in a welcoming, friendly gesture.

"And there is no need to give me a lecture of them, for I have known them as both friend and enemy" You say gregariously, eyes glowing with joy at seeing your students, though many of them bore scars from the war against the butcher king, even amongst the Aeldari present "Farseer Carys of Ulthwé is a friend of mine, as are all of her disciples."

Your sons remain silent, but you can sense their confusion turn to disbelief, and see the feelings of betrayal writ clear in their shoulders and eyes, but they do not attack or speak their anger out loud. They listen, respectfully, trusting you enough to hear you out, despite their instincts to act aggressively.

"She risked her life to share my dream of a world where all men prospered, free of oppression and needless hardship" You say in a calm, measured tone, speaking as a man of reason as you held your arms behind your back and turned to address your shocked and confused sons " They have given away all they held dear, to follow the Journey, believing my words as you do"

Some amongst your sons feel shame, others humiliation, others only get angrier, some feel a dark sense of amusement, others remain baffled. You sigh through your nose, and ponderously grind your heel into the dirt.

Lifting your chin and narrowing your eyes, you continue by stating sternly . If any amongst you think them to be our enemies, to their them untrustworthy or worthy of death alone, then I shall debate you"

A wave of fear washes over most of your sons. But, some remain bold in their conviction, and are not cowed by the threat of being verbally scolded and publicly humiliated in front of their brothers.

"and remind my impudent son why I am known as a great and wise Philosopher" You state, as Hyun-Shik, to your satisfaction and pride as a father, steps forward to challenge you, his father, while the rest of his peers bow away or keep their dissent to themselves, either fearing your contempt or wisely wishing to hear your full explanation before judging, or simply not caring enough to argue against you.

"Father, forgive me, But I can't stand idle by while you make an ass and fool out of yourself! These are Xenos tricksters! The enemy of humanity. They cannot be trusted, they cannot be bargained with. Every Xenos is a threat, and enemy to our race" He says, his voice wavering as he goes fights against himself to speak to you in such a discourteous manner
Cont

"Eldar, particularly, are a treacherous enemy, for they will seek an alliance only to renege on the agreement and betray, for that is their nature, they see no value in human life and would happily sell millions of us for one of their own. They are heartless Machiavellian schemers, who subsist upon treason and falsehoods"

Even Kanzeon would be outraged by how poor of a light Hyun-Shik holds the Aeldari in. Indeed, even Kanzeon's scornful distrust, which even the Aeldari present have admitted wasn't misplaced and had merit, was so slight as to seem friendly in comparison to Hyun-Shik's seething hatred.

You smirk, and Hyun-Shik reacts as if you had just gripped him by the throat. A communal gasp drags through the air, as your gathered sons recoil, knowing that their brother has been standing in your palm all along.

"Fuck" He gasps, as if he were actually being choked, sweat already beading upon his brow.

"If I remember right, the 2nd legion has not had a single engagement with Aeldari forces, let alone Any xenos, presently, for I have heard stories and tales of my noble sons' every battle, triumph and defeat' You say coolly, stepping closer to your sweating son who has now clenched his jaw so tightly his gums are bleeding as he steels himself in anticipation for your rebuttal "Yet you seem remarkably well informed about this species that has not even approached terra in several millennium"

He whispers, but does not say a word, so you press your advantage and circle around his back, hands still clasped behind your own as you lean over his shoulder and grin.

"You have never met an Aeldari before, so Tell me, from where does your distrust and hatred sprout?" You coldly hiss, as all of your sons stand with rapt attention and Hyun-Shik Shivers and becomes drenched in his own sweat "is it your own mind, or a mechanical whisper disguising itself as instinct true?"

Your son begins to shiver and gasp, sensing his scolding approaching as all of your sons go incredibly quiet, and some go pale around the face as they contemplate your question and find answers they most certainly do not want to speak out loud or even admit to themselves. Unease settles, as your sons look inwards, and see the unpleasant truth to your words.

"Hating another for their birth, is foolish. To condemn that which you do not know, is to be blind" You say sternly by not harshly, like a teacher reprimanding a student out of necessity and concern, rather than an abusive and cruel instructor delighting in agonies of his charges. Yet still Hyun-Shik reacts as if you've beaten him, falling to his hands and knees to weep openly, blubbering the moment he hears your scolding tone.

So you kneel beside him.

"All are equal beneath the heavens, so why hate someone who has given you no just cause to hate?" You say softly and lovingly, so as to assure your son you do not hold him with contempt or feel disappointment for him, knowing that your sons hold you to such a high ideal and with such great admiration a direct dismissal or reprimand is more damaging to them than any weapon or mental assault. His Psyche may be injured if you do not show that your harsh reprimanding is borne of concern and insights he has yet to grasp.

You grab his hand and hold it tightly, looking into his tear filled eyes as he shudders, joy radiating from his being as he sees you have not forsaken him or judged him unworthy of being your son.

"Is that contempt your own? Or words whispered in your ear by another? Decide your own path, and choose your beliefs" You say, quietly at first, before raising it, even though all of your sons can hear you. You place a reassuring hand on Hyun-Shik's back, as he rises to stand with you, but averts his gaze from yours as the rest of your sons stand as still as statues, digesting your impromptu lesson as you approach Carys and Guozhi, now placing your hands within the sleeves of your robes.

"I cannot do so for you, and only tyrants would attempt to" You declare loudly, and leave your sons to make their choice. Slowly at first, you hear them set their weapons to the ground, dropping their guns, some even throwing them forward. A few stab their swords into the soil. But, one by one, all of your psyker sons make their decision and choose their own path.

And join you upon the hill with Carys and her followers, they are welcomed by the Wanderers in the fog who praise them loudly and openly for their choice and their wisdom in following your example, for looking beyond what they had been taught and ignoring appearances and history to judge the quality of the Aeldari's characters for themselves. But, many of them are shaken, from being forced to confront and renounce their programing.

In a way, they have undergone a conscious decision to change themselves and open their minds, in a manner similar to yourself when you chose to become truly human. Hyun-Shik, at least, notices your smile beaming with pride, but does not understand the reason. It may not even be noticeable to their fellow brothers or even themselves, as all of your sons, despite their bickering and factionalism have remarkably open minds and deep wells of compassion and tolerance compared to their cousins, and had possessed such admirable qualities well before Dae-Hyun met you and they received portions of your worldview as a gift.. At least, according to their comrades who joined them on the journey. Some of the legions, from the accounts you have heard seem almost barbaric and cruel in nature.

But surely, they shall be righted when they are reunited with their genesires, as this fraction of sons were concerning the pointless philosophical rivalries and infighting they had taken to after Dae-Hyun had delivered the wisdom you had imparted unto him. But, you had corrected their disunity, and returned them to the band of brothers they once were.

You could only hope, your sons present here, deciding to give Carys and her flock their trust and a chance to undo their prejudices, would spread throughout your legion. The fact you would have to meet with their brothers, whose disunity and self imposed distance from one another would only increase from the absence of several of their commanding officers and respected leaders, was one that weighed heavily upon your mind.

How do you lead the spiritual attack against the spenta, once your psionic sons have recovered and mingled with the Aeldari, Lieren?

>Wait until the battle begins and then ambush the Spenta forces from both sides, raining down psionic destruction through a combination of Wanderer and Aeldari techniques. Sow destruction amongst the devil forgers' ranks

>Meditate and gather as much strength as you are able tom, while your sons use their psionic gifts in the manner that bests suits them. Bide your time, and only join the fray if your expertise and power is required

>Enter into the Astral plane with Carys and a select few sons, and battle against the "extradimensional beasts" that are drawn to e trapped in iron cages.

>Use your knowledge of the Wuxing, Yin and Yang, Purple star Astrology, and lessons with Magnus to try and Contact Arianka or a similarly potent benevolent spirit or force of spirits to aid in keeping protecting your sons spiritually, while your psionic sons and the Aeldari attack from afar.
