Welcome to ASTHYIREA, a planet around an anomalously green star and with a moon that glows orange at night, itself producing its own light as well. The ocean is teal and slightly sweet, and a glowing grid makes its way across the planet. Only barely visible at best during the day, but totally visible at night. The planet only has one ocean inside a crater, surrounded by pillars and statues of a long-gone society. Yet on this mostly dry rock, life has arisen...How to play:• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your image editor of choice.• Make one evolutionary change to that species, though you can have multiple branches to a species in one image.• Save as .PNG!• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.• Please name your creature. If the creature is replacing its predecessor, it can keep its name, though if creating a new species, give it a new name. Makes it easier to keep track of.• Details regarding a creature’s size or name are encouraged, but not required.• Nothing too outlandish. Anything silly or derailing will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.Notes:• Unless stated explicitly, no species is extinct, unless it's been replaced by a descendant. If two users posted an evo to the same base creature around the same time, they'll both be added, though one may get a name change.• Try to make your evolutions gradual, it gives more options for speciation, even if this evogame is a bit soft.• I'll provide an EvoWeb which will include the extant and extinct organisms semi-regularly. They take a bit of time so please be patient• Expect a Random World Event at least once per thread to shake up the world and game.• Have funNew to the Game?:• Don't be shy. If you have an idea for an organism and want to spend the time making it, please by all means do so.• We also have a Discord to keep you up to date on EvoGame activities, and chat with other folks and myself. https://discord.gg/82nhT6f• Just a note, while it doesn't matter how intertwined your organism is with the rest of the ecosystem, the more dependent it is on the existence of other creatures, the more potential your organism has to survive into future threads.I'll be posting the base organisms and other helpful resources below, so keep your eyes peeled.[1/5]
By day the planet is bathed in the green light of its star, the skies turning a teal to pink gradient, and illuminating white sands, white rubble, and turquoise oceans.By night the planet is illuminated by the orange glow of its moon, turning the oceans a deep maroon and giving an ashen complexion to the sand. The blue grid becomes apparent, and all of the statues become pink, also gaining a chromatic aberration effect, and those with faces get a glitchy censor bar over their eyes.It is in this odd world our creatures will live in...[2/5]
The organisms who live here are equally as odd:The lofi are coastal creatures who come out at night, their colouration mimicking the grid pattern of the ground at those times. They're small, and feast on the WAVE berries and the occasional Tosh egg. They themselves lay eggs, and don't have the best binocular vision due to their visor-like mono-eye.The WAVE are akin to fungi or grasses, though are neither, being somewhere between the two. They're quite widespread and live both under shallow water and into the coast, though have to be within range of water. They vary in size, though they tower over most of the other organisms on the planet. The Tosh are crepuscular creatures made of the same odd material that the ruins are made of. In their short hours of activity, they feast on WAVE berries and any unlucky lofi they can find, bringing them to a mouth under their bodies. They can see in front of them, despite not having any visible eyes. The Fiji are fully aquatic creatures that hang out near the coast. They're awake during the day and sleep in the underwater WAVE forests at night. They'll eat just about anything, WAVE berries, lofi eggs, lofi themselves, Tosh eggs. They have an interesting graduated pattern to their body that morphs and shifts over time, making it seem like they have no outline to their bodies. They're ovoviviparous, holding their eggs in their bodies until they hatch and the baby leave the parent's pouch.
To help you guys with your evolutions, here's the font I use for everything and the current environments I have marked out as of now. We can expand on the typings as the game continues forwards.[4/5]
And a small guide on making an evolution from an old evogame I was a part ofHappy evolving![5/5]
Concept looks dope, ill throw in a creature when I get home
the TORSH has evolved taller bodies to see further and find more berries.
>>5117328Forget the image
>>5117236The Fuji has evolved to fill a niche. While their cousins sleep at night, these ones wander the WAVE forests once the sea changes hue, when there's little competition for food. Their color changes somewhat, and their eye develops a sort of greenish film that grants them better low-light vision.
>>5117236An offshoot of the Lofi is the Ilofi, which possesses a body shape that starts off wider, and then tapers off near the end. This change in structure makes them slightly harder to eat than their brethren, as they're marginally less likely to fit into the mouth of the Tosh.
>>5117236Certain WAVE plant themselves a little deeper in the beach, growing longer roots to latch on to sand.
>>5117236>>5117638The WADESome of the deeper water WAVE take fuller advantage of their larger roots to become taller. This fully underwater lifestyle lets them grow an extra fruit due to the slight sweetness to the water.
>>5117236>>5117638The WANESome WAVE start getting further and further from the coast. Though still married to the water provided by the high tide, they're about as far away as they can get from the ocean as they can. Because of the lower amount of water, the WANE's body is smaller and needle-like.
>>5117350The InTorshSome Torsh become taller so they can strike where the lofi don't expect: the water. Though their taller shape gives them away on land, the fact that they can go further into the water helps with the surprise factor. Their water-wading lifestyle also means they can get the cheeky Fiji and Fuji every once in awhile.
Planet Aesthyirea, or as it is at colloquially written as A E S T H Y I R E A is home to fascinating collection of ecologically young, but unique organisms. It's scantly present seas and waterways are teeming with life that has only recently diverged from the ancestral Fiji. The Vice Fiji has taken up the niche of a diurnal specialist predator, targeting slow moving Tosh wading in the dawn or dusk tides in search of food of their own, or feeding on the other more generalist Fiji genera in the waters around it. It's clamping jaws are able to ensnare prey with ease and even crack the shells of smaller Tosh. The Loafer Fiji on the otherhand is a fully herbivorous grazer, feeding on the many kinds of Wave Plants species in the shallow waters, and especially feeding on their nutritious and tasty berries. Their flatter body, allows them to more easily rest on the seafloor when not grazing. The Mini Fiji has shrunk significantly in size, only measuring up to about 2-3 centimeters in length. Their smaller size grants them more mobility to avoid larger predators, and a lower food demand. They often travel in small school of 10-25 individuals, darting about the shallows during the twilight hours in search of food, may it be Wave Berries, or submerged eggs of Tosh and Lofis. The Invert Fiji adopted a similar path to the nocturnal Fuji, acting as an opportunist hunter and generalist during Aesthyirea's nights. Their demure color tones, allow them to blend in better in maroon hued waters at night, as they stalk unaware Fuji or simply searching for eggs and Wave berries to feast upon.Elsewhere on the coastal shores and even some spots inland on Planet Aesthyirea, life has also branched out to fill and create new niches in the burgeoning ecosystem from the ancestral Lofi and Tosh clades, as well as a new pioneering strain of Wave plant. The Big Lofi is a fairly rudimentary evolution on the Lofi body plan, having roughly doubled in size, and developing a larger mouth to take advantage of all the ever expanding food sources on the shores and shallow waters of its planet. The Wedge Lofi on the other-hand has adopted an ambush predator lifestyle, evolving its once mostly-benign proboscis into wedge that they use to charge and pushover the top heavy Tosh or boxy Lofi to turn into an easy meal for them. The pointy wedge allows them to stab and chip away at the flesh of prey, letting them cut and swallow chunks of meat whole with its agape maw rested beneath it's Wedge-like rostrum. The Sucker Tosh has specialized its tendrils that once doubled as feeding appendages to now act as sensitive feelers for sensing its surroundings and identifying food, friend or foe. As these feelers are important to the Tosh, they are able to retractive into a protective marble-like sleeve to protect them. They additionally have a short, opposable trunk for grabbing small food items for consumption.
>>5118001Just ran out of space, so this became a two-parter.Finally, we have the Wavern, a unique variety of the ancestral Wave plant that has taken the first crucial steps to becoming a fully terrestrial plant. It has developed a more definable stalk, as well as taller leaf sprouts and berry placement, so as to let its berries fully ripen. Most notably though its, ability to retain water has, given this plant the unique, albeit fleeting ability to endure further into the for now harsh inland regions of Aesthyirea.
>>5117236The Tosha is formed from more jagged, sharper bits of white material. Their backs are broken unevenly, producing a more aggressive shape.
>>5117236The Itosh, meanwhile, spends a lot of time buried in the sand where water flows over them. Over the course of their lives, their backs are eroded by the shifting seas, and scrubbed into a rounded, polished shape.
>>5118001As they're made of the same material as the ruins, some end up in the shapes that the ruins form. This one takes on the visage of one such broken figure, with half of its body's proportions.
>>5117236The Blofi swim around in the ocean, using their tubes to extend out of the water and breathe. When needed, they can suck up water and blow it at nearby creatures, scaring away Nocturnal predators with the sudden blasts.
The Imosh commits to a fully aqua lifestyle, allowing them to scavenge the ocean floor for food.
>>5117728the pillar of the Intorsh has been sculpted by natural selection taken on the shape of a statue along with it being partially hollow has lightened the load
As a retrofag and hipster, I want to say this thread is based and I'm watching it closely. Make sure it's archived when sage comes.
>>5118305do please mention if you have any ideas
>>5118305Hell yeah man, any plans to jump in?
>>5118001the Waverns strategic placement of fruits have continued with COREn the maturing fruits of COREn's stays hidden by a layer of leafs wrapping around it that spread out when ready to be eaten
>>5118001The Loafer Fijito is squatter and flatter. It tends to graze on dropped berries, and crawls along the soft sand. It has traded some of its swimming capability for the ability to burrow itself into the sand and avoid predators. They gradually move into shallower and shallower waters, where Fiji-branch predators have trouble following.
The trunk of the Hi-fi has moved to more easily access the tasty COREn Berries
>>5118001The wedge lofi gain more robust wedge muscles, allowing them to have jack-hammer-like mouths. This lets them mine into the ruins, and figure out if one is a Tosh descendant or not.
>>5118107Some Fucker Tosh evolve to have more and more abstract and cryptic shapes, this actually helping them against the wedge lofi as their outline, especially at night, is very difficult to pin down due to the aberration effect the material has. Since the wedge lofi can't pin down exactly where they are, so they either ignore them or miss, giving the MindFuck Tosh enough time to escape.
>>5118212ImoosSome Imosh travel further into the water, and get tangled in the underwater WAVE/WADE forests. Over time, the Imoos have become flatter and disc-like, and their feet have become closer to flippers, letting them swim a little bit, though their inherent weight makes it look more like hopping with a slow descent.Due to not really needing to breathe, and not really getting the fuller extent of the daylight cycle, they've become cathermal.
>>5118234BlorshThe Blorsh are a group of Vorsh who evolved to have a flatter, less defined face. This was cause by the Blorsh using their faces ad bludgeons to smash the various species of lofi that normal Tosh cannot consume.
>>5118234VorsageSome Vorsh find that their hollower bodies let them float on the water, despite their weight, and so evolve a more bulbous head that's more hollow. They float on the water and use their dangling limbs to grab for food, and beat their legs back and forth to steer themselves, even though they're still mostly at the mercy of the waves.
Some COREn grow taller in attempt to outcompete its shorter relatives, and also now allows for its berries to be dropped at relatively slight breezes, thus carrying their seeds far without having to rely on animals(sorry if this looks bad, i had a migraine while making it + a long day)
After falling one too many times, the InToro have evolved a longer profile; this allows them to move for longer periods of time.
Some Lofi grow longer with an additional body segment, resulting in specimens of a species that are both faster and more stable in their wanderings.
+COREn specializes to the point that it no longer competes with its close relative, producing fruit at the top with barely any protection due to the lack of climbing animals, opting in favor of a thicker layer of fruit around the seed. +COREn uses this new developments in order to develop their fruit uninterrupted, so that only the fallen ripe fruit get consumed by the animals, it also is capable of using the wind so its fruit can fall further away, helping it spread around.
>>5118447Some Hi-Fis, in their attempt to reach the higher +COREn berries, decide that cooperation is the answer and stand on top of each other. At the moment the top one just pulls the berries down so that both Hi-fi DuOs could eat them.
>>5118001A subspecies of Wedge Lofi have evolved into the Wedgers. While their cousins drill at minerals, these ones take advantage of the behaviour that Hi-Fi Duos >>5119212 exhibit. They wait by trees for approaching prey, and offer themselves up as stepstools. When the Hi-Fis try to climb, they pierce them with their wedges and suck them dry.
>>5118001The D.Vice Fiji continues to develop as an ambush predator. It hides in WAVE forests and darts out at prey. The pink tails, which are a similar shade to the plants, begin developing orange spots that almost resemble the berries.
>>5117698The WADE evolves into the CLADE.Instead of sinking deep, these ones float at the surface. Some dud berries end up hollow and lacking nutrients, turning into air-filled bulbs as a result. These allow the plants to float on the surface, where no creatures can reach the real berries, allowing them to gently bob on the waves like boats.
>>5118001>>5118234As the Vorsh has a hollow crevice in its body, it's only natural that things would eventually fall inside. The hanging WAVERN ends up dropping berries into the hole, creating the WA/VORSH. The host develops stronger legs to carry the plant around, and every so often, it drops berries right in front of the Vorsh.
>>5119364Whoops, forgot image.
>>5118099Bigger and rounder Itoshes eventually became Aposhes, developing a smooth shell and stronger appendages to allow it to roll itself around, if a bit clumsily. In any case, it gives it an advantage in speed over it's prey.
>>5119364>>5119366As the WAVERN and Vorsh in the WA/Vorsh began to become more intertwined, the Vorsh became much larger and more hollow, allowing them to hold larger WAVERN plants, even larger legs helping with this symbiosis.
>>5119870ah shit I forgot to add: their hands evolved into scoops/shovels so they can water the WAVERN stored inside the top of their bodies.
>>5118494Some Mindfuck Tosh are born in broods with synergetic features, one of which is the appearance of a big, threatening face that can effectively intimidate any Wedges with proper coordination. These are called UnCanny Tosh.
>>5118852wyrms maximize their speed and stability by adding even more segments to their body(please remember to save as PNG in the future)
>>5118818The InToror develops a square, broad face. It spends much of the daytime grazing now. Its digestive system is slightly stunted, so it mainly eats decomposing WAVE matter and knocks down weaker plants that are wilting. It serves as a sort of scavenger/detritivore.
>>5117700The BANE begins absorbing trace minerals from the soil deeper inland, especially pieces chipped off from the structures. They gain sharpened edges and a high mineral content in their berries, which become denser and heavier.
EffervescentThe escape of gas from a liquid solution. The act of a liquid boiling or bubbling. As time has gone on, the ocean of Ashtyriea have become effervescent due to some anomalous carbonation. This along with large cracks forming in the ground under the ocean both cause the water to drain away from the land, the remaining water becoming some sort of soda, due to its sweetness and carbonation. How will life adapt to this strange new predicament?• Now that the water is retreating, all creatures now must fight to gain access to the water. Any species that are deemed too water inefficient will be marked as "in danger." Every once in awhile, a d20 will be rolled, and if it hits an 8 or below, the more evolutions that have happened since this event slowly raising that number until anything in danger will become extinct 100% of the time. Please wait for the chart to show those most in danger of losing water.[1/2]
>>5119870Faced with a lack of water, the shape of these creatures' pots become flatter and shallower, to allow water to enter more easily. It uses those shovel-like hands to bury itself during the day, with the plant pots only protruding slightly out of the ground. While the plants are nourished in the day, the WA/VEdish wanders about at night to deal with the Tosh half's needs.
>>5118001The Bug Lofi's body becomes a bit more water-efficient. Upon losing moisture content, it starts to shrivel up and grow harder, and it's able to survive with most of its body dried up, using a form of cryptobiosis. When water splashes onto them, they come back to life. These irregular periods of activity make for a Cathermal lifestyle as well.
>>5119494The shell of the Aposh has thinned out over generations, until it has returned to a soft sac. It makes use of the high carbonation of the water, and uses it like a bladder, allowing it to float slightly. Their limbs drag beneath them.
>>5117350The Posh takes in much of the sweet syrup in the ocean. Its shell changes colour and pattern to blend in with the waves.
>>5122127To get more water, the Big Lofi develops a wider trunk to suck and filter more from the soda, and becomes generally larger to aid in increased internal water retention. It develops a crepuscular existence so as to face less competition from other lofi species.
>>5118097The Torshsot scavenges from both in front of and behind itself.

>>5123263>>5123262~CRITICAL FAIL!~Two creatures have gone extinct! Via random selection, both the ilofi and fucker tosh have gone extinct (rip benis)
>>5117628Some Fuji develop a crepuscular lifestyle due to searching after new prey: the Apop. To aid in their hunt of Apop, they've evolved flattened heads so that one of their eyes are always pointed up, and thus always being on the lookout for Apop.
>>5118001Due to the receding oceans, the many Fiji derivatives had to adapt or die.The Crush Fiji evolved their rows of teeth into a single large beak-like structure. This allows them to eat much harder and much larger things, their diet consisting of Vorsage, InToro and the like. The S.Vice Fiji couldn't rely on their strategy of hiding in the WADE forests anymore, and so branched out. They've desaturated their body quite a bit, flattened out, and moved all their of their eyes upward. This allows them to hide in the sand, waiting for any unfortunate creature to come near them.As time has gone on, the Invert Fiji have continued to get better at nighttime hunting, evolving larger eyes that help them focus and not be so disoriented by the nighttime chromatic aberration.Other Invert Fiji became smaller due to the lesser amount of area they had to live in. The Minivert Fiji are basically the same, though they're smaller and hide in the brambles of the Wade roots in the daytime.
>>5123416addendum on th S.Vice Fiji: Because they don't need to move much, they've become cathemeral and are only awake when food may be near.
>>5119341Some Wedger Lofis have evolved a bigger wedge to store the essential fizzy waters in, and a couple more legs to stabilize their now unbalanced body. This also changed their behavior, from tricking Hi-fi DuOs into full predatory ambush mode. No longer able to stab prey to death, they bludgeon anything moving that comes into range and drink their pulped carcass - but sometimes they break their own wedges, spilling the much-needed water.
>>5118012Some Wavern start to grow around the Pillars that fill the landscape on which it lives, growing roots along its stem as a way of support, keeping itself anchored in order to grow properly. WAVine is the result of these developments, germinating close to pillars so it can grow using its exposed roots not only for support, but also to absorb the humidity that comes from the sea breeze, improving its method of getting water from its ancestor, even if just a little.

>>5123416The Mini Veji is much, much smaller than their ancestors. They've taken to moving about in huge swarms instead. As they're smaller, they need much less food, and a single bite of flesh from another creature is sufficient to sustain them. But when the whole swarm descends to bite the same prey...
>>5123130After multiple generations, the Siglofi develops sensitive filaments that detect vibrations, allowing them to pick up on the low-frequency signals that others emanate with their trunks, as well as listen out for their crepuscular Tosh predators as well.
>>5119060+COREn growing near the coast have specialized to their environment by moving most of their leaves to the top to avoid waves crashing them away (as well as taller grazing animals), and has a thicker, deeper set of roots to both tether it into the ground absorb more water from the soil. The base of the plant, now known as +COREc, has gained a sort of "callused" exterior to prevent any damage that could potentially fell it.
>>5119356Due to the carbonation, some small CLADE never make it fully to the surface of the water. These puny CLIDE are so light that they can float just above the water, their roots able to absorb water from the bubbling ocean. The CLIDE are actually so light that they can float, not touching the water at all, for hours on end, some even skipping across the ocean instead of simply glding above it.
>>5124272Could you please elaborate on why it got this shape?
>>5124272>>5124656Due to the receding waters, BLADE begin growing sideways instead of straight up, so that they don't end up protruding out of the sea and having their tips exposed to open air. This way, they're able to maintain their position while in shallow areas.

((Helping someone else post. None of these are mine.))>>5119346The D.Vise Fiji grow closer in color to WAVE, as they begin producing a pigment close to it's hue. It is most noticable around the tail segment, but it also exists along the midpoint.>>5123326In order to save more energy during jumps, the Fujot slims down, and becomes slightly longer as well for faster movement speed.>>5121118The Wyrm is horribly inefficient with it's amount of wheels, so it evolves to replace them with two treads. These make it easier to move over rough terrain and more efficient, but have the cost of slowing it down. This leaves it slightly more open to predator Tosh.>>5121809The Bane starts drawing more minerals from the ground, and deeper inside as well. This leads to it's crystalization becoming greater, and often the minerals it draws from an area make it deficient of minerals, leading to fast growth and then a stagnation till the minerals recover or the bane seeds reach another area.
>>5127516The BANE split off into two distinct species based on how close they are to the shore.-The BAKE actually mostly degranulate themselves of minerals during high tide, growing ever closer to the water, and then as the tide starts to lower, they reaccumulate minerals to act as a protective barrier during low-tide.-The BAN are as close as you can be to being inland without actually being inland. At the edges of the coasts, the BAN stand as singular blades, their roots unable to ferry enough moisture and nutrients for any others, and that blade having become entirely mineralized. Some of the wyrm continue to develop more efficient locomotion, eventually settling on a screw-drive, as their treads kept getting them stuck in the wet sand.-Meanwhile others became the wyrd, their treads being replaced by rows of paddles that let them swim on the surface of the water, most of their diet consisting of CLIDE or Apop. The D.Vice Fiji reach an even closer resemblance to the WADE forests, tails being the same colour and their faux fruit bumps being more berry-looking.-Other D.Vice Fiji who weren't as convincing later became the R.Vice Fiji, their stations and more slender form helping them hide in the root systems of the WADE/BLADE forests, attacking when their prey is vulnerable.
>>5117728Some InTorsh started to grow longer in order to take advantage of WAVines, fooling them into growing around them. This strategy results into the Vi/nTorsh which has a readily available source of food in the form of fruit that falls off the WAVine, reducing the need to forage for food.
>>5119870>>5120095WA/Vorsh further specialize, scooping into its empty body not only water, but also some soil as the foundation, becoming an ideal place for the WAVERN inside it to grow. These ideal conditions also resulted into the growth of WAVERNS inside it to reach unprecedented levels, which forced the WA/Vorsh to reach bigger sizes, as well as stronger limbs in order to support itself. Although it may seem cumbersome it has its benefits, as it can directly reach for the WAVERN fruit instead of waiting for it to fall off, highly reducing the need to forage for food.

>>5118447>>5119212Adapting from those Hi-Fi that habitually formed the top part of the DuO, the Cli-Fi adopts to clambering up the columns of WAVine, VinTorsh and the stalks of +COREc to feast upon and pull down berries for its partner.

They use these strong arms to lift themselves to either get a better view of the landscape, or to give themselves a little boost and roll down hills faster.>>5123153Some Toshsot angle their wedges downwards, leading to the Toss Sot, who use their wedges to dredge through the coasts for any detritus they can find.>>5122885Some WA/VEdish become wider, able to hold more water in them, and consequentially, more symbiotic plants. This lets the WA/VEdudish have access to berries at night, and also means they act as propagators for their symbiotes.>>5123041Over time, the Posh splits into two new species, the first being the tiny Poh.The Poh live around the WA/VEdish and WA/VEdudish, sustaining themselves off of the water inside them, as well as eating any berries they don't. Their small size means they don't require a lot to live, but basically cannot survive without their large hosts since they'd be eaten by basically everything. The second species is the Poss, who live around particularly dry areas where the sweet water has bubbled away into a thick syrup, having an adaptation where they filter out the water from the sugar, ejecting the sugar out the sides of their bodies, creating sugar deposits around themselves.>>5118818With the advent of the WA/VEdish and WA/VEdudish, there was bound to be some creatures who would attack them for food and water. They use their wedge-shaped facial adornment to try and crack their hull to eat whatever chips off or drink the water that'll come spilling out. After Awhile the Oceans Stopped RetreatingWhat was left behind were various smaller barely connected oceans. They were either connected underground, or cut off from each other by small land bridges or entire cliff walls. Due to many caves appearing though, life wasn't cut off from each other, though now it was trapped deep within the crater.Along with the ocean drying up, some pockets of thick, sugary water, or rather, syrup were left behind, allowing life to get a very concentrated source of the sweet stuff in small puddles or even some entire little lakes of syrup.Though, oddly... the oceans continue to be effervescent, still releasing quite a bit of carbon into the air. So maybe the worse has yet to come...[2/3]
And just an update to our typing chart, including some of the ones added in the past as well as some for the new environments.BTW I should mention that "syrup" means that it's living inside the syrup pools rather than around, please add coastal along with the syrup tag to specify it living around them rather than inside the syrup. As for aquafers, just add the coastal or water tags to the creature along with the cave tag to denote aquafers.[3/3]

Some Wabush convergently evolve with the COREn by surrounding their berries with leaves for their protection, exposing the berries when they are ready for consumption. WAFLOR is the name of this plant, and petal-like leaves are not its only adaptation, as it grows near syrup pools. WAFLOR uses its berries not only as a way of seed dispersal, but also as a way of disposing of excess sugar by making the berries sweeter than they’ve ever been before, encouraging animals to eat its berries and spread the seeds.
