World War 3 shocked the Earth. The Western Allies, lead by the United States were falling victim to their lack of unity compared to the Autocratic SinoRussian Alliance.
Midway through the war, the various regions of the United States separated, forming a neo-confederacy with a pact for mutual defense.

The new stability allowed the West to win the war. After the war, the new regions developed. In the years since, they have each grown to have their own unique form of government and culture, and have become bitter rivals with one another. The rest of the world has continued to recover from the horrors of WW3.

You are an agent for a important organization in your homeland, tasked with carrying out missions to help your nation rise to unparalleled superpower-dom. Where are you from?

>Silion
>The US Westcoast became completely controlled by a merger of several high power tech companies. Although Silion denies it, it is common knowledge that the government is a mere puppet for Ultra-advanced AI. Silion attempts to aggressively export its system of government. As of now, Taiwan, Unified Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam have become Silion colonies.

>Sino-Mormon empire
>Millions of Chinese and Taiwanese citizens left Asia during the war and came to America. The government, in an effort to manage the population, put the majority of them in the midwest. The Mormon religion spread through them like wildfire. Decades later, a strict hierarchical society emerged blending elements of Chinese history and culture with Mormon spirituality.

>The Deregulated Zone
>A libertarian paradise, comprising must of the south and southwest and parts of Mexico. The only law here is... no laws! A collection of the richest people on earth use their fortunes to hire vast armies to ensure no other government attempts to lay claim to the deregulated zone. >New America
>The continuation of the original United States. A horribly corrupt trading hub stuck in a state of perpetual grid lock. Several gangs have made themselves comfortable in the metropoles there. Three gangs emerged as the most powerful: The Jewel-Eyed Tigers in New York City, the Shadow Panthers in Chicago, and the League of Killers in Washington DC.

>Sino-Mormon Empire

The Sino-Mormon Empire relies on 12 Great Schools to manage its internal and external affairs. Each school has hundreds of subsidiary schools responsible for a variety of matters, even matters as mundane as cleaning the roads.

You started your service in the school of the Lion, a major of subsidiary of the Great School of the Tiger, the Empire's primary Armed Forces. You rose through the ranks quickly, and impressed your superiors. However, before the Great School of the tiger offered you a position among its ranks, a messenger from the Empire's most mysterious school, the Great School of the Rat, requested that you join as its newest operative.

The Great School of the Rat, who conducts espionage and gathers intelligence for the Empire, invited you to be its newest operative; and when a Great School extends an invitation, there is no declining.

You are Zhao Brigham, intelligence operative for the Great School of the Rat. Your superior is Smith Zihao, who answers to the leader of the Great School himself, Spymaster Wilson.

For your first mission, you've been sent to investigate a disturbance within the Deregulated Zone. While world governments have no explicit authority within the zone, they often conduct covert missions within the zone, especially when they fear that one of the "Big 4," the richest men in the world, are engaging in research that could disrupt the balance of power.

"Brother Brigham, our Lord calls upon the Great School of the Rat, and upon you, a member of its body, to investigate and thwart the pernicious activity within the deregulated zone." Commander Smith speaks to you in a mixture of English and Chinese. "North of the San Antonio Crypto-City, our analysts have discovered a laboratory that shows signs of high-level AI research. Our Holy Empire is troubled enough by the false-prophets within Silion. We must be careful to root out and eradicate any that could threaten the coming of our Lord."

He gestures to the elevator. "I hope you have had time to grow accustomed to your upgraded implants. A car is waiting for you in the garage, it has the rough location of the laboratory programmed into it. Other supplies you might need are in the trunk. If you don't have any questions, then go."

"We still cannot determine what it is they are doing. The Great School of the Monkey's AI division caught a blip of level 4 AI activity coming from the laboratory a few days ago. Our joint task-force believes it was simply an oversight, when multiple signal-blocking membranes all happened to be open at once, allowing a small signal to pass through. The signal was too small to reveal anything notable. So we need you to determine what is going on and who is behind it. If you can shut down the operation, even better. Remember, Brother Zhao, you are a soldier for the Great School of the Rat. God is with you, and your discretion is welcome. So long as you act with loyalty to the Empire and with devotion to our Lord and his resplendent coming, your actions will not fail."
Smith Zihao gives a slight bow. "Now go."

>Pray quickly

The Great School of the Rat HQ in Denver has a large temple in side, which is the office of one of the 12 Apostles. You stop by on your way to the garage to pray. After several minutes of silent prayer, you feel strength of determination in your heart.

>Leave for San Antonio

You go down to the bottom floor of the garage, the "operations garage." There you find a beige, convertible car. A small, chubby man comes to greet you. "Brother Zhao, we have the car ready for you here. It is fully electric, has a stealth function, off-road capable, and has a full armory in the back. It is designed only to start when reads a signal from your hippocampal implant."

After the brief explanation, you're on the road. The car is equipped with a level 1 AI capable of creative on and off road driving. A drive that used to take almost 14 hours can now be finished in almost 10. Still, you have a long way to go. It's early morning now, so you're scheduled to get there at twilight with no stops. As you drive out of Denver, you see the marvels of the Sino-Mormon people. Skytrains connect the mega-scrapers where business, religion, and government are all conducted in turn. On the streets you see the hustle and bustle of people moving around the city. It's not long before you're out and on the road. Driving up, down, and around the mountains, not a soul in sight."

This isn't your first time behind the wheel of one of these machines. Capable of reaching over 200mph (320 kmh) in around 5 seconds and turning on a dime, even off road.

>>5061841
>>5061312
You decide that you should at least get some rest, but that it would do you no good to sleep through the deregulated zone. For one, you might miss something worth looking into, secondly, you never know when some cultists with a bazooka will try to blow up a passing car for fun; so, it's best to stay frosty in Texas. So you shut your eyes to sleep.

You wake up when you reach the DRZ border. With your Imperial authorization you're able to bypass the SME checkpoint into the DRZ entirely. As soon as you cross the border, you feel your speed creep up. The Interstates in DRZ have been long unusable, either because they were destroyed or captured by some faction. Even the ostensibly safe ones are typically patrolled by highway men seeking a payday. So you, and most other travelers with any sense, stick to the dusty backroads. For the first stretch, you see nothing but wilderness spotted with occasional ruins of a time long past. But then, in the distance you see something that can't be avoided no matter what road you take when you're driving south through Texas: a river.

At the old bridge up ahead you see a group of people and vehicles.

>Slow down and speak to them to see if they will let you pass.

You shut the car off and get out. You take a look at the situation through your ocular augment. Looks like a typical bandit crew that tries to get rich by setting up a toll at a rural bridge. You count 10-12 of them, all armed, some with bats and others with firearms of various sizes. They have a makeshift gate, thick enough to stop any car that would try to drive through them. As far as you can tell, this is where they live. You see small huts, fire pits, and SUV's all parked around and under the bridge. You figure you could make short work of them if it came to a fight, but only if they attack first, a Mormon can never start a fight without a blessing from the President or a member of the 12 apostles.

They don't notice you until you're close. When they do, they move into action, hustling around and waiving their arms at you. When you finally arrive, they have you surrounded in a semi-circle. You crack the window and one of them peers inside.

"Woo wee! One-a them Latter Day Chinks!" A man yells with a thick Southern accent. "We don't get a lot of y'all coming through here."

The others laugh.

"Not much for ya I suppose." He takes a long look at the car. "This here's a pretty ride, you must be doing alright up there in Sart Rake Shitty." He looks at the others, laughing. "What do you think? We'll take his car and everything in it and he can walk on through?"

The rest of the crowd cheers, jeering and trying to escalate it further.

"Well Chang? Why don't you hop out of that car and we'll let you pass. I'll throw in some free advice too: don't try to bargain in Texas unless you got numbers."

You say the line like a badass and hit the accelerator. Sadly, due to the electric engine and stealth functionality, it doesn't make the roaring sound that would so perfectly accompany it. Instead, the car, in almost complete silence, accelerates to nearly 100 mph as you drift to the lift and speed away, sending several of your assailants off their feet. Some attempt to shoot at your car, but the bullets that do hit are easily deflected by the bulletproof chasis and glass. Before long, you are on the road heading East along the river, keeping an eye out for another bridge. Fortunately, the next one you find is on such a deserted road that no one would ever dream to occupy it. You cross easily and continue on your way, now about 1.5 hours behind schedule.

You drive offroad back towards your original course, the fastest route to San Antonio. You see occasional camps and travelers, but nothing that catches your eye. For while, your ride is smooth.

A little past the halfway point, you see something that catches your eye. You had heard of mobile communes, groups of nomads who lived in cars and campers as opposed to settling down in any one place, but this was unbelievable. Heading Northwest was a massive commune, or maybe said, a full mobile city. Hundreds of cars, RV's, tanks, jeeps, and more all moving at a uniform speed. You can see what appear to be walkways connecting some of the vehicles. What's most remarkable, however, is the massive vehicle in the center. it's the size of a building, in the shape of a pyramid, moving along the ground at the same speed as the other vehicles. The pyramid seems to serve as a central hub, connected to various vehicles throughout the formation via walkways.

You're positive it is not the laboratory you're looking for, that's too far away from here. That said, it is pretty interesting.

>Stay focused on your mission, you'll have leave time in the future if you want to explore the DRZ.

>Take a detour from the mission and follow the commune for a while.

Being an agent for the School of the rat means quite a bit of discretion in how you carry out your missions. Sure they want you to check out the lab near San Antonio, but as an intelligence agent, it's probably worthwhile to follow a lead like this.

You decide to follow the commune. You follow behind, off road, at a safe speed. Considering your distance and the stealth functions on your car, you think it's unlikely they can see you. Regardless, not long after you start following them, you see a car break from the commune and turn around to drive your way.

You grip your dao tight and keep the engine running, ready to fight or flee depending on the circumstance. The car that's approaching is a large military style jeep. As it gets closer, you can see the driver, who you can tell is a giant even sitting down, begin to wave at you, as though offering peace. His jeep stops 10-15 yards in front of you. Behind him, you can see that the commune is continuing its course.

He steps out of the car. He is by far the largest man you have ever met in person, well over 2 meters. You would guess that he is at least7 feet tall. However, unlike other tall people, his frame is proportional, and he has muscle mass that s he steps out, he slings a large rifle across his back, and takes several slow strides over to you.

"Hello friend. You seem to have taken an interest in us. Shall we chat for a bit? I won't cause any trouble if you won't"

You slowly open the door and get out, your Dao still in hand.

"Aahh, an Imperial Agent. Father guessed you might be.." He remarks to himself. "I figured not, I frankly did not think anyone knew about us yet. Even if you did, I wouldn't expect you to take any interest in us, yet at least." He seems to think you know much more than you do.

"You won't believe me, but I just happened upon you while carrying out a different mission." You explain, "I only followed you out of curiosity. If I can ask, who are you?"

"Who am I? Or who are we?"

"Both."

"My name is Sonn of Mann. Yours?"

"I cannot give my name, I apologize."

"Figures. Well, I would be a fool to offer any information freely to the empire. So I must kindly ask that you return to your mission and forget you ever saw us. If our organization is ever lucky enough to become a concern to your Empire, perhaps we will meet again that day." He starts to turn back. "I have to catch up with my group. If we see you following us again, and we will if you try, I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it as cordially."

>Attempt to gather more information, through peaceful talks and an exchange of information. Put your other mission on the backburner for now.

>Try to talk a little more and gather information and then get back to your mission.

"Wait!" You call out after him. He stops and peers back at you. "Who says we have to be enemies. It is not the way of the Empire to approach the unknown with sword drawn. As is written in Third Nephi, 'verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.'"

Sonn of Mann cracks a grin. "Beautiful stuff friend, but you were the one that wouldn't say your name."

"My position would not allow such a thing. If you'd like, call me Shu." You sheath your Dao. "My mission is to gather information about a laboratory outside of San Antonio. We have intelligence that whoever is operating it is engaged in very high level AI research. Do you know anything about this?"

Sonn swings the rifle off of his back and throws it back into his Jeep. "Shu, pleased to meet you. So you all caught the signal as well? We are just coming from near there after investigating it ourselves. Frankly, it's above our paygrade. Don Louie owns and funds the laboratory, you can see his goons in Don Industry powersuits stalking around the place. Our organization is good, but sadly we're not that good yet. If you plan on going there, you should be careful."

Sonn of Mann's open and easy going character catches you off guard. You reply, "th-thank you, you told me much more than I expected."

"Well, I'm hoping you'll return the favor."

"What is it you want?"

"You're clearly no small fry in the Empire, and to put it bluntly, we're headed Northwest now towards Silion to carry out a mission. I know that there is nothing but bad blood between the Empire and Silion. If the Empire offered its aid, it would benefit us both greatly."

"Interesting... What exactly is your organization."

Sonn smiles widely and laugh, "This is your last freebie, Shu! The name of our organization is GOSPEL. Now what do you see, shall we see if we can help each other?"

(Sorry everyone, back at work so updates will be a lil slower).

>Give Sonn of Mann contact information so he can arrange a meeting with someone from Central HQ, leave for San Antonio.

You smile back, feeling a kinship with the giant warrior. "Here is a direct satellite line you can use to contact my department. Explain your objectives to them, and if we have a common goal, they will likely welcome an alliance. Only someone in my position would have the access code for that line, so if you tell them an operative gave it to you, they will know it was me"

Sonn bows slightly, "It was good fortune that we met you, Shu. Perhaps we'll meet again one day. Again, please be careful at that laboratory. I don't doubt you're a skilled fighter, but no one man is a match for a squadron of soldiers in power armor."

"Thank you for your kind words. I hope our people can work well together. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you always." You end your encounter with Sonn of Mann and get back on the road, reflecting on your strange encounter and determined to arrive at the Laboratory without any other interruption.

The car drives you on auto-pilot for hours as you alternate between resting, looking at the scenery, and drafting a report for central intelligence.

It's twilight when you begin to approach the general area of the laboratory and, by chance, a van passes you moving quickly from the direction of the laboratory. Despite the darkness, you notice that a insignia used by Don Industries was stickered on the windshield.
