After two devastating wars that have ravaged the populations of the Dusk and Night alike, peace is finally returning to the Empire, but who knows for how long.
--------------------------------------------------------------
We hail the Tenth Spring week's First in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

Finally back home after the longest war in our history yet, we count more than 40 000 dead and 18 000 wounded.
Having witnessed the new reality of warfare firsthand, we only find it adequate to compensate the bereft for the many lives we have claimed.
As such, upon our first day back on our throne, we issue a new law that entitles all known, living parents and widows of soldiers who have been confirmed deceased, be spared from taxation for three years after a war has been resolved, effective immediately.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Rules are pretty simple
>You are, at all times, the current de-facto Ruler of your people.
>There will be decisions after each Update.
>You may only pick ONE option, unless stated otherwise.
>Parenting options run parallel to the main-game and are their own separate decisions.
>When there is no Majority, a Tie will always be broken by the option that was chosen the earliest.
>This is an EXTREMELY SLOW quest, be prepared to wait, a lot.

We greet the First Summer week's Second in Loiur's 191st Birthyear of the Second Cycle

In light of the atrocities we've witnessed in the war, we have come to the conclusion that laws must be made to make these illegal.
While we cannot force other nations to do as we do, we can at least live up to our own superiority and not allow ourselves to stoop to the same level as the muxandaz and abdaxa.

As such, we stipulate that all foes surrendered, must be treated as a citizen of their respective nation, not as a warrior;
That all captives must have their bodies remain intact and unviolated, to ensure the integrity of one's essential body parts, the continued treatment of ailments contracted before captivity, the providing of food and shelter, the continued independence as stated in the Holy Edict, the payment for all work done;
That all fallen warriors may not have their bodily integrity be posthumously violated;
That citizens of a nation we are at war with, but have not engaged in combat with us, receive the same treatment as captives, but be subjected not to the law of their conqueror, but the continued law of the land.

After the passing of thereof, this particular law has garnered great attention among the populace, not only for its length, but the implications thereof.
The people aren't concerned about committing atrocities themselves, but holding lesser nations accountable for theirs.
We suppose this is a fair position, as we ourselves would never engage in this kind of behavior.

As per popular demand, we add:
That all nations in violation of the law, forfeit their rights granted by it, in perpetuity, unless adequate compensation has been made to the offended party.

To give the law the legitimacy it needs beyond our borders, we use Axot IV's weakened position to force him into signing a treaty that binds his kingdom to this law.

Give a 1 year tax relief for every child someone has for the next 8 years. max 8.
make a post war baby boom.
>>
>>4727445
I don't normally like to interfere like this
but I don't think that's a good idea anon
we are a pre-industrial, agrarian society
birthrates are already sky high, because of child mortality
this would only deprive us of taxes for 8 years
and even if it didn't, we don't have the agricultural infrastructure to support a sudden spike in population like that

We hail the Seventeenth Autumn week's Third in Loiur's 199th Birthyear of the Second Cycle

After Udenedi has so ungratefully left the empire, kidnapping her sister along the way, we banished her from the realm.
It has been 7 years since then and by now, the experiences of the brave soldiers who fought in the war with us, and had seen Loiuri first hand, are beginning to bleed their experiences into the empire.
We would be lying if we said we didn't enjoy the aesthetics of the Night Capital, but something about this, strikes us as distasteful.
Despite this, marketplaces all over the empire have taken on a towery shape, just like what we saw back in Loiuri.
The rich and famous too have made their residences into towers, though these often resemble trees, rather than the temple-like homes we've seen.
Popular as this trend might seem in the cities, on the land it finds little appreciation, towers are simply too pompous for these simple folks, and who can blame them.
But art it appears, only truly comes from the cities, a rather peculiar occurrence that even thinkers have come to notice.
While we see it largely as the peasants do, holding no love for the towers, Ninjano, urbanite that he is, can't get enough of them.

Times are changing, we can tell, and we write this entry, we can already feel the life draining from our body.
We pray that we may yet see the turn of the century.

A few weeks away from his 64th birthday, Ashgizo Bendirigz III, born Benjonnido, died.
You as the honored Ahunnido, take his place.
In in the binding ceremony, when the essences leave for the next world, you become the next Aitlaz.
You don't feel any different, but you know you have a lot of new responsibilities ahead of you, and that ... that you feel.

2-03-1-200
Freshly seated on the throne, your first act in office, after moving into the palace with your family, is resolving the militia issue.
It's really not as much of an issue, as it is a need for regulation.
There are many militias in the empire, it makes sense, there's always something happening somewhere.
Problem is, some places have bigger militias than others, and not necessarily for a population difference.
Many of them are simply mercenaries from other towns, wanting to be fed by the locals.
This wouldn't be a problem either, if some towns weren't starving for hosting two, three or even four militia bands.
The question is now, what do you do with them?

>one per town
>no foreigners
>provide food
>criminalize them
>organize officially
>let them figure it out
>>
>>4728806
>organize officially
And

>>4728806
>organize officially

>>
>>4729185
>>4729041
>>4728928
1-05-1-200
After long consideration, you think it best to regulate these militias into a more effective fighting force that doesn't drain local resources so much.
In your first step you limit the number of people that can be in a city militia, based on a percentage of the local population.
Next up, they no longer get compensated in food, but actual pay.
Lastly, you set a minimum standard of weapon proficiency that must be met for a militia to receive funding.

4-09-1-200
Within weeks, dozens of militias have disbanded completely and others drastically reduced in number, unable to meet official standards.
This in turn, sparked more interest from the public in pursuing militia careers.
You are content with this state of affairs and move on.

There are a lot of things we can do huh.... oh man I have to think but something I want a lot is wagons. We already have horses to pull them and the familiarity with carts is there y'know?

We have invested a lot into roads during this quest, maybe it is time to squeeze more out of 'em...

How feasible it is to

desu. I can tell there is the need to have reins and collars but we are already familiar with carts so I can tell there is a system to guide the horse and enjoy its pull...

Now that militias have been forced to be more professional, many of them have begun outfitting themselves with shidroz armors.
While they're not as sophisticated as your army's armors, they still need a lot of shidroz, driving up prices.
You decide to keep the price of shidroz low, to encourage smiths to continue proliferating the material and also keeping equipment maintenance at a reasonable level.
You do this, by funding smelteries with taxpayer money, rather than out of pocket.

4-1-2-200
It's a bit slow, but you already notice the increase in productivity on last season-third's expenditure chart.
You predict that, should things continue as they do, we might see a 1/12th increase in shidroz production, by the end of the year.

Your coffers along with the empire, are recovering still from the last war.
But there's a bright side to it, where there is work, there is money to be made.
As such, you fund artists across the empire, to give them work and get people to spend some of their savings, of which there are too many.

5-9-2-200
To facilitate an increase in art trade, or really just trade in general, you announce a reform in coinage.
You don't know yet what exactly you'll do, but the anxiety created by it, will hopefully drive some people to circle their money back into the economy instead of hoarding.

New religious movements spring up all the time, usually the temple declares them heretics shortly thereafter and they are shunned from society.
Rarely does one get big enough before that, to have any societal impact beyond the occasional spectacle of trial by fire.
Lately however, one of these little movements has gained a cult following with a lot of power to back it.

This cult argues that, with the outbreak of conflict between Night and Dusk, that Sun and Moon have divorced.
In order to preserve the world, they have turned to the Stars as their object of worship.
They make the case that Stars are the children of Sun and Moon, in other words, already deceased ancestors, stuck in a world separate from ours and the next, from which they can exercise influence over both, if given the power to do so.

You're more than a little skeptical of this claim, seeing as many of the founding scholars of this cult, came from the Night.
While many priests have decried this cult as heretical already, the Vingizo is undecisive and asks for your opinion on the matter.
Frankly, you couldn't care less about all this, but the amount of elites following this cult, not just in our nation, but among the Muxandaz as well, is worrisome.

The Vingizo agrees and makes it doctrine.

You have assembled a group of skilled pretenders, to find and spy on the members of the twilight cult.
They are to guise themselves as one of them, and under no circumstances reveal their true identity or their mission.
Said mission being to send reports of suspicious cult activities, to be evaluated and if necessary, cracked down on.
Should they succeed in their mission, you will reward them with fabulous wealth.
If they fail to deliver however, they will be tried according to their crime.

With this, you leave the twilight cult be for the time being and turn your attention back toward the state.

[Tie-Bureka daisan no bakudan: BEITO ZA DASTO]

4-4-4-200
So far, your spies have reported nothing unusual coming from the cultists, typically this would be of concern, but no, they aren't even suspiciously unremarkable
You don't know what it is they're doing other than living a normal life, but it is concerning
or perhaps you just overreacted, who knows.

Speaking of overreactions, recently a new trend has made itself apparent, called Haova*, in which Berasaz** publicly shout and scream, belittling each other's ideas
Contrary to your first impression, these matches are arranged, not happenstance.

One of the issues debated in these Hoavaz, has already spawned multiple new Berasaz, attempting to weigh-in on the topic.
The question posed is of interest to you as well, seeing as it can either enhance or undermine your rule.
Due to the twilight controversy, it has become apparent to these Berasaz that your actions have violated the inherent freedoms possessed by all men.
They don't seem to know or care about what these freedoms actually are, so for all you care, they're just outraged for the sake of it.
However what they're trying to debate in actuality, is also what interests you.

Where does freedom originate from?
Conservative minds argue that, of course Aitlaz has granted man such.
From whence he took it to be giving it to you in the first place, is irrelevant to them.
Berasaz with a more open disposition toward the subject, have taken up the position that freedom originates in nature, that upon creation of the world freedom simply existed, and man is merely enlightened enough to truly grasp it.
Although a more fringe position, as it was only formulated recently, the idea that freedom is force withheld as opposed to force applied, has been gaining traction quickly.
Positing that force applied is oppression as its core argument, as evidenced by the brutality of foreigners and their practices of slavery.

It is given by all.
The Aitlaz submitted the idea to the citizens and freed the slaves.
The citizens saw truth in this and also saw it in nature. Some citizens were former slaves and supported this idea because they knew the pains of slavery and no freedom.
The Slaves were freed and became citizens and began accepting the ideas of the Aitaz and the other citizens.
