This guy on Deviantart made this and it makes me cringe on more than one level.
I just want to know, if I am not the only one that feels that way.
>>
They just look like regular mana cards, not holographic or old prints. It may look stupid, but it doesn't make me cringe at all
>>
Anyone playing for a while has more basic lands than what they know to do with. When I was rebuilding my collection, I bought 1000 for $5 from a store. They're basically worthless.

As long as that deckbox can fit sleeves, it's a pretty neat idea. I think it would have looked better if he had the card backs showing on the outside instead, though.
>>
>>539829
nigga they're basic lands and the books looks neat and well done. it's just you.
>>
>>539834
i think if the flap, front, back, and sides represented each mana color it would be pretty neat
>>
Hi, can you please watch my video please? and tell me if you like my singing.
Thanks ;)
>>
I like it
>>
They don't fold very well and the printed ink flakes off after a while when folded like that. Those are my only complaints as I do not play Magic nor do I know anything about it.

He destroyed magic cards, that makes me happy.

Who cares? They're land cards. There's like a billon of them for every other card. Grow the fuck up. Nerd like a man, pussy.

It makes bookkeeping easier for publishers; bookstores report how many books went unsold and they are marked as such, so it makes stolen merchandise harder to sell.

Dude, they're basic lands. They're not even full art. People leave them on tables at card shops, on top of the store owner giving them out for free.

The only thing they did wrong was make it too small for sleeved cards.
>>
You may have autism if such a small thing can induce any sort of cringe. Its a neat little trinket made out of excessive lands, thats all there is to it.

They're common, inexpensive cards being used to create something useful and - I think - somewhat interesting. I don't see your problem.
>>
>>539829
It bothers me that it's all held together with bend cards, if there was a better casing made from something else with the lands cut to size as decoration I'd be fine with it. Currently it just looks like crap where it's bend and the flaps are completely useless.

They do it because consumers are more sneaky and backhanded than you give them credit for. The reason why produce is thrown away and not given away when it is going bad is because no sane person would buy the product if they could get it for free 4 days later. Its a counter productive business model that is centered around how consumers think.

MTG sellers bend cards to test if they are real or counterfeited.
counterfeited cards usually bends and stay bent, real cards are made of good quality materials and return to their normal shape
at least for the first 3 times in their lifetime
>>539829
Land cards are extremely low value(both selling value, and personal utility value) in MtG, and those are some of the ugliest forests i've ever seen.
Some stores even gift a pack of them to new players. for free.
he probably would have spent more by purchasing a small sheet of plastic/cardboard to make it.
>>
>>542873
As someone who volunteers at their local food bank, and has also worked in a few retail/grocery stores, I can verify that this is partially true.
The other side of it is simply that many establishments are ignorant of what to do with "old" produce and throw it out. I've heard stories of places that do indeed contaminate what they throw out, but that's not exactly the norm.
In the places I've been, it's pretty simple to just speak with the management and propose a deal with food banks. Most of them have the paperwork for it, and the company gets to write it off. It's a win-win that the average person just doesn't think of.

As for books and magazines... well you're just shit out of luck. It's highly unlikely that the local library wants them, as they also occasionally get rid of their own books as well. Obviously the interest isn't there if you're not selling them.
In this day and age you just deal with it. There's most likely a digital copy out there, and you can rest easy knowing that they're most likely going to be recycled.

>>
>>539829
Care to explain HOW this upsets you?

>>545407
What's going on in this picture?
>>
>>540587
That's partly because hobos have sued companies (mostly fast food places) because they got food poisoning from their trash cans.

Am I still on /po/? This is starting to feel like another board.
>>
>>542873
Except that grocery stores actually do donate some of that stuff. There was a place next door to my grandfather's apartment that got donations from the supermarkets in the area of expiring food that old people could go in and grab for free.
>>
>>543068
The bend test will eventually ruin cards if done enough. Plus I've seen people fold cards in half to bend-check them. Anyone who's played magic for a while knows how a card feels, rendering the test unnecessary. If I were looking to sell any card worth over $10 I'd hike the price 1.5x if they did the damned bend test.

Please please please tell me those aren't real power 9 cards with art mods. I fear it is based on the price tag, WHY would anyone do this? I can't believe anyone would throw away thousands of dollars of rare cards for my little pony while actually being aware of their value.
>>
>>546690
If someone buys them at that price, doesn't it mean ponyshit "art mod" cards are worth just as much as the original cards? Both magic and mlp are fictional toy franchises--it's not like a WoC card with particular words and pictures on it is an inherently valuable object.

Basically it sounds like what you are saying is "I'm jealous of someone who owned those cards and didn't use them for the purpose I would've liked to."
>>
>>546707
I'm extremely jealous because they're the most valuable and rarest cards in MTG because of their limited print and their overpowered effects in the game itself. Modifying them makes them effectively worthless to a collector and no one would even think of buying those for that price without being completely retarded. You're bitching that limited printed things which can't easily be obtained have value, 'fictional toy franchises' can still have a large domestic gross and as such be worth alot of money you troglodyte and none of your 'I don't care about that thing so its cost should be $0' has any affect on the market.
>>
>>546758
I don't at all mean to imply that things like rare Magic cards don't or shouldn't have value. Rather, I'm saying both MTG and MLP are niche interests with a number of extremely devoted fans who are clearly willing to pour quite a lot of money into their (strange to outsiders) hobby. Items appealing to these fans are certainly valuable because they can be sold at a high price, yet to someone uninvolved in the hobby, they would seem to be worthless.

If you think defacing the cards in this way is a waste, aren't you essentially in the same position as some "outsider" who sees all Magic cards as more or less worthless in the first place? They have been removed from the sphere of "things you care about," but potentially become valuable and desirable to someone else.

Now, of course it's possible that the new niche for those defaced cards has become so small that there isn't actually anyone who is willing to buy them, although I don't think any of us knows whether that is the case or not. It's also perfectly reasonable to argue that MLP fans, especially ones who want to spend thousands of dollars on their hobby, are annoying, detestable, etc. But if you are someone who personally places a high value on paper cards from a "fictional toy franchise" such as MTG, you might want to be careful about throwing stones.

Hey. This is somewhat unrelated but I've got a really annoying deck and it has nothing but "Tap target creature, It doesn't untap during your opponent's next untap step."

Now i figured being a complete dick wasn't enough so I came up with "Why not put on little snowmen on my opponents creatures to make them potentially completely lose their shit." Would love this one since it seems easy to craft and i'm shit at papercrafts, but can honestly be anything: snowflake, xmas tree, ice block... i don't care. Just give me something relatively white I can print with relatively low color since i'm out of color tint.

TLDR; I'd like a file for a simple snowman, possibly pic related, if not, anything simple & ice related with not much color on it. kkthxbai

Giving them away would encourage people to not buy books and simply wait for the stock to be old. It's the same reason GameStop throws away video games.

It's not a practice I agree with, but that's the way it is.

They also rip the covers off to return to their vendor, it acts as proof that the book didn't sell, so they get refunded, plus as another user stated it's to prevent people from dumpster diving and reselling trashed booked, which is a problem due to the first thing I said.

There's nothing to stop you from getting the books out of the dumpster for yourself however, unless you're above dumpster diving.

theres a huge liability problem with giving out expired food. if your friend wanted to do a good deed he could just buy it in date with his employee discount rather than feed people trash.

it's a thing because otherwise you get corporations getting a tax writeoff for freezer meltdowns that aren't actually safe to eat, or well meaning idiots poisoning people.

the bigger problem is that canada actually destroys fresh drinkable milk to keep prices up because of how their subsidies are done. literally dumps hundreds of gallons of the stuff down the drain rather than seize it for poor people. or how usa uts funding to states that try to tell you what you can or can't buy with foodstamps

>>556497
>>557667
Even if it was a problem of liability a lot of food is good even days or week after expiry (yogurts for example).
In my country some stores were pourring bleach on the food they throwed away to be sure no one would eat it. This is illegal now and they are supposed to give away their unsold food (aid association, food for animals, compost etc...)

"Best before" does not mean "lethal after."

Best before dates are there to keep a product on the shelves and then replace it with a "new and improved" product. They have very little to do with consumer safety.

For something to be cringeworthy we need more information, or just make assumptions of the context. My guess is that you are doing the latter, the only way this is cringe is if the author is proposing it as a great idea. Are you the kind of person that needs to make sure something is great before sharing it?

All Lands ARE Mana cards, but not Mana cards and Lands.
Mox/Lotus cards are also Mana Card, but also an Artifact.
A Swamp is a Mana Card, but also a Land.

Any card that provides a source of Mana for no cost except tapping is a Mana card.

That is literally a term you just pulled out of your ass, and not only that, there are plenty of lands that don't have any mana abilities, such as The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. "Mana card" is absolutely not a term that exists in the comprehensive rules, nor in any casual vernacular I've ever heard of.
>Any card that provides a source of mana for no cost except tapping is a Mana card
By your own definition, the Odyssey filterlands aren't mana cards as you need to pay (1) to activate their mana abilities, contradicting

Have a friend who worked at a book store where they did this to prove to the publisher for refund purposes. It comes down to the shipping costs for the proof. Anyways, he was supposed to trash an audiobook of the Bible as read by James Earl Jones (you know, Darth Vadar, etc...) and he was like, "Oh hell no!" He did the ripping but kept the actual product. His reasoning was it's the Bible as read by the voice of God, Himself. He's not even a religious-fag but just having a copy of that read by James Earl Jones is basically priceless.

When I worked at Staples, there was a guy who'd come in once a month and do this to all of our unsold magazines. Drove me nuts. We'd take the ones with good material to places like doctors' offices or dentists' waiting rooms. Stuff like that. Or homeless camps so they could use them for whatever (TP, bedding, fire starting).

I still have books from my youth. That's how you start a personal library, so yeah, I feel your pain.

>MTG

What a boring fucking game to get upset over. I had a friend that tried to get me into it since they were a huge mtg nerd. Bought me some cards and everything. They sat me down at this game store with tables and everything trying to teach me what all the cards did and how to play them. We were there for maybe 30 minutes or so, but fuck it felt like two hours. I just couldn't get into the mindset of staring at cards with pictures of trees and skeletons on them and pretend to have a "fierce fantastic battle" (his actual words) with some fat autist across from me and have fun. The next day he asked if we could play again sometime and that I would learn to love it as I got used to the cards. I politely told him "fuck no" in the most polite way possible. He seemed a bit upset when I told him that.

And yes, he was a fat neckbeard. I still have those cards somewhere and would gladly bend and tear them all up if people actually got upset over it.

To more fully explain for posterity: The April Fool's joke for 2020 -- the year of the Covid -- was a simulated infection throughout 4chan and 4channel. Those infected had distorted usernames and a sickly green hue to their posts; the climax of infection was a biohazard badge on your posts. There were a number of Patient Zeros, which were seemingly chosen by being early posts on April 1. For one reason or another, this extended to all instances of April 1, even for other years. So, this thread -- which has posts from April 1 of other years -- had instances of Patient Zeros for posts that were made several years preceding the joke. People took notice and responded to these infects posts wildly in the hopes that they themselves would become infected and caused this thread to prematurely hit the bump limit. The Mods, being unsatisfied with this result, removed the posts in questions, restoring balance to /po/.

also land cards are free by mtg standards, you get like 20 of each color in a deck builder box and shops give them out for free, every pack you buy has like 2 in them, and they dont count towards the 15 cards per pack i think

I've found that the "bump limit" doesn't count sageed posts differently. One could sage all of the posts in a thread until 300 and the thread will not bump if the 301st one didn't sage.

I was thinking of this thread the other day, sad to see such a historic thread is sinking to the bottom. After 5 years of service it’s time to go my friend. Today I will build a shitty MtG deck box out of lands for my
Yu-Gi-Oh
cards in honor of such a simple post lasting much longer then it should have.
>>
>going on 5 years old
I'd heard about these but I'd never actually seen them, so I decided to set out on a bit of an expedition to find it. I've never actually posted on /po/ before, you see.

As a student of Archaeology, I find this truly remarkable. I feel like the mods ought to sticky it or something to preserve it. Just imagining everything that's happened in the last 5 years, everything that's changed. This thread has seen two of the greatest US election upsets in decades, all manner of political turmoil and destruction, all sorts of changes in culture and technology in a mere 5 years. Yet through it all, this thread sits like a great monolith, unyielding and unchanged.

Truly remarkable.

Bittersweet.
>>
>>593678
i don't think so. without spoiling it, the writers intentionally wrote it so that it avoided coinciding with all major fan theories, and as such was basically devoid of fanservice, so the fans didn't like it. but at the same time, the ending basically makes a lot of the lore built up over the years kinda irrelevant. looking back on it now, when you have travesties like the game of thrones ending to compare it to, it's not so bad.
>>
>>593316
Well during the 2020 April fools “prank” a bunch of people flocked to /pol/ and other slower boards to escape the infection, so naturally people followed so they could infect those that fled. By sheer coincidence there’s a post in this thread that was made on April 1st from a previous year that was also [infected] so people started spamming and linking this thread only to comment about patient 0. This naturally broke the image limit and started to slide this thread. A few days later the mods removed all the comments and references to the incident, effectively resetting the thread back to how it was before. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they have done similar stuff before.
Just wanted to record some history before it’s archived. I feel like there’s more history about this thread that people don’t realize (like another anon posting in this board to try and make the longer lasting thread, his post isn’t around anymore mainly cuz it was off topic and everyone was telling him that this thread existed so his attempt was futile.)
Anyways gonna go build a deck box now.

This is what BBC News looked like on the day that this thread was posted:

>Muhammad Ali had just died - but he actually hadn't. He wouldn't die until a week later on June 3rd, but for some reason BBC News (mistakenly?) has the story on their homepage on May 27th
>The West was actively fighting Islamic State (IS / ISIS / ISIL / Daesh), who would end up losing all their territory in Iraq a year and a half later (December 2017) and all their territory in Syria another 15 months after that (March 2019)
>The UK was in the middle of its campaign for the Brexit referendum which took place a month later
>Amber Heard had just accused Johnny Depp of domestic abuse. Legal battles between them would go on for years, including Depp suing a British newspaper for calling him a "wife beater" - in late 2020, a judge would rule that this claim was "substantially true", resulting in Depp losing his acting role in the Harry Potter sequel film series
>Jose Mourinho had just been appointed manager of Man U (he has since been fired, made manager of Spurs, fired again, and is now manager of Roma)

I think the mods have done something to make sure this thread doesn't drop off the catalog

/po/'s catalog has 152 threads (easy to check in the console), but it only has 1 sticky. Other boards with 1 sticky have 151 threads (150, plus the sticky). /adv/ only has 150 threads, because it has no sticky.

/pol/ has 202 threads but they have 2 stickies, so I'm guessing their thread limit is 200.

So yeah, the mods must have done something to keep this thread on the catalog when it should have dropped off.

This thread is definitely staying on the catalog artificially, when it should have been knocked off

The penultimate thread on the board was this one, and it just disappeared (got knocked off the board): https://archived.moe/po/thread/591900

In addition to what I mentioned in a previous post about how this board has 152 threads on the catalog despite only having 1 sticky. Every other board has 150 threads + the number of stickies they have (boards with 1 sticky have 151, boards with 0 stickies have 150) - apart from /pol/, /v/, and /vg/, which each have 200 threads + the number of stickies.
>>
lol
>>
Another thread just dropped off the board, specifically the one here:
>>593140
https://archived.moe/po/thread/593140

And yet this thread is still on the catalog, even though it was in last position, and that other thread was only in penultimate position.
>>
It's the staffs fault for this shit still being here.
>>
>>551487
lol have you calmed down yet
>>
Yet another thread just dropped off the board, even though it was only in penultimate place on the catalog (this thread being in last place, of course)

The thread that dropped off:
>>591965
https://archived.moe/po/thread/591965

And you can see it on this board's archive page, showing that it dropped off in the last 3 days:
https://boards.4channel.org/po/archive

So yeah, this thread we're posting in is definitely artificially staying on the catalog when it should have dropped off, either the mods have done it intentionally, or there's a bug I guess.
>>
>>597478
We don't really need a daily update of the threads that are dropping off before this one. We can actually see it ourselves. Try reaching the image limit and see what happens after that. If it still doesn't drop off, then it is definitely a glitch or a staff "wanting to keep this thread" issue.
>>
>>597479
Literally seethe as much as you want, I'll post whatever I want to post, and you can seethe about it as much as you want, thanks.

>then it is definitely a glitch or a staff "wanting to keep this thread" issue
It's either a glitch or they've deliberately kept it on the board somehow, I can't think of another explanation. Image limit shouldn't matter. That thread that just dropped off only had a single reply, so was obviously nowhere near the image limit, yet still dropped off the board.

For a design this simple, paper is paper. Cards will do just fine if that's all you have, the point is to get a functional box at the end of the day. At worst I might cringe because it's kind of too frugal in a way, like you could have easily bought some cheap paper to make that with, it's literally paper and wouldn't have costed anything. That's not a very tangible reason to cringe though, and I definitely wouldn't cringe "on more than one level." As for whether you're the only one that feels that way or not, I doubt it. There are billions of people on this earth so statistically there are absolutely guaranteed to be others that feel the same way you do.
All the best.

Nah, it would really suck if this crappy thread hung around that long. If it does, they might as well shut down this entire board, since there isn't supposed to be a page 11 with permanent threads on it.

I don't see why one thread means they should shut down the whole board. People are still using the board as normal.
>>
bump
>>
>>597844
It's not because of one thread, but because the way they are changing things in here. They hold on to crappy threads like this one, and let the better threads fall off the board once they have reached their limits. This one has reached its limits years ago, and it is being kept alive by the staff for no reason other than to annoy people or cause trouble.
>>

If you think a good thread is about to die then why not bump it? Nothing is stopping you from doing so.

>it is being kept alive by the staff for no reason other than to annoy people or cause trouble
I doubt that's why they're doing it. They're probably doing it because threads don't usually get to be this old and it's interesting.

I mean such an old thread is interesting, just due to being old. Not the subject matter of the thread.

I think it's interesting anyway and clearly lots of other people do too since so many people have posted in this thread over the last few months

Probably because they're new to this thread and they don't realise that it's some sort of sticky which seems permanently attached to the last position on the board, so they think it's about to drop off the board.

>>598384
I ruined it, sorry Satan.
>>
>>598387
Catalog says page 11 but you can’t go to page 11
>>
>>598388
ARE WE IN /po/ LIMBO ANON?
>>
>>598388
>>598395
There's another thread on page 11 too, right now it's this one: >>595745

Most other threads also have threads on page 11 if you check their catalogues.

I think what happens is that the sticky pushes the last thread onto page 11. So a board with 1 sticky should have 1 thread on page 11 (normally it would be the last thread on page 10, but the sticky pushes that last thread over onto page 11).

This seems to be the case. E.g. /pol/ has 2 stickies, and similarly the last 2 threads on its catalogue say that they're on page 11. And I just checked /g/, with 1 sticky, and it has 1 thread at the bottom of the catalogue saying it's on page 11.

But with /po/ right now, this thread we're all posting in right now seems to be a stickied thread, except it's stickied to the bottom of the catalogue. /po/ should only have 1 thread on page 11, because it only has 1 sticky. But there are currently 2 threads on page 11: this one we're posting in, and the one I linked to above.

Note that when you check some boards that do have stickies, they will report 0 threads on page 11. Why? Because their thread limit hasn't been reached, and the reason for this is that the mods have deleted threads on those boards, and nobody has created threads to replace those deleted threads yet. (The thread limit on most boards is 150 threads, but on a couple of big ones, like /pol/, it's 200. But stickies are added on top of this. E.g. /pol/, with a thread limit of 200, has 202 threads, because of the 2 stickies it has. And that's what pushes the last 2 threads on /pol/ onto page 11. The 10 pages of the catalogue only accommodate the 200 threads of the thread limit. But the 2 stickies of /pol/ push the last two threads on the catalogue onto page 11.)

>>
holy fuck die already
>>
>>598401
Most boards that have stickies will currently have threads on page 11. Go and look at their catalogues, go to the last thread, mouse over it, and it should say page 11.

E.g. look at >>>/pol/ - it normally has 2 pages on thread 11 because it has 2 stickies, which push 2 threads onto page 11. If a board has 1 sticky then it should have 1 thread on page 11.

But this isn't always the case, because mods sometimes delete threads, so when they do, the number of threads on that board can be lower than the thread limit. At that point, no threads are pushed over onto page 11.

E.g. >>>/his/ has 1 sticky and, when I post this, has 1 thread on page 11. The thread limit for /his/, like most boards, is 150 (/pol/ and I think maybe /v/ and /vg/ are 200). /his/'s 1 sticky is not counted towards the thread limit, so in reality /his/ has 151 threads (150 normal threads, plus the 1 sticky). This means 1 thread is pushed onto page 11. However, if the mods were to delete 1 thread for breaking the rules, then /his/ would only have 149 normal threads and 1 sticky, making 150 total. Then there wouldn't be any threads pushed onto page 11. So you wouldn't be able to find a thread on page 11 on the catalogue.

Indeed it has

I think a couple of threads have been deleted, probably for breaking the rules

Therefore this thread isn't being pushed onto page 11

For more detail: there are currently 150 threads on the board as I write this, which means no thread is pushed over onto page 11 (there are 10 pages of 15 threads each).

The maximum number of threads on this board should be 151, because for some reason stickies don't count towards the thread limit. So it would be 150 regular threads, plus the sticky. This means that the last thread on the catalogue gets pushed to page 11. Although I think recently /po/ has had 152 threads because I think this thread we're posting in has acted like a sticky, just at the end of the board (it must be something like this, because other threads are dropping off the board, but this one isn't, so it's obviously being held here by something). So there should be 2 threads on page 11, including this one. So I'm guessing the mods have deleted 2 threads for breaking the rules, which is why this thread isn't currently being pushed onto page 11.

>>
>>598710
It's been "about to die" for at least a couple months. It seems to have been sort-of-stickied to the end of the board, because the penultimate thread keeps dropping off the board as new threads are created, but this thread never drops off.

So this thread is here until the mods decide to get rid of it I guess.
