Gimme some tips. My issues were that it was very dark when I took this pic. It was like 0530. I had too wide a lens. I did manage to get really close, and had a very fast lens, but still, it kinda sucks.

I feel like the major weakness is contrast. The focus was good and everything, and the camera is pretty good so the iq looks decent despite the massive crop. Still, it just doesn't pop like other people's do. What can I do differently next time? What would have made this shot better.

Do you guys use a CPL filter for bird photos often? Just ordered my first telephoto lens and I'm debating if I should get one, on one hand it feels like it would be useful when shooting against the sky, on the other hand I don't want to lose anymore light and 95mm filers are fucking expensive.

Do you walk around with your large telephoto lenses, or just take them out when you're at a good location?
If you walk around with it, what strap do you use? I just got a 150-600 and definitely underestimated how heavy this shit is. I'm going to try it with a reporter-style sling strap but the one I have only has a screw in latch connector which I don't trust 100%.

I usually just walk around with it in hand, holding by the tripod foot.
Sometimes I use the strap Sigma included with the lens.

yeah I put on the included strap but it's kinda short and only long enough to wear it on the neck and not over the shoulder for me, and it's too heavy to do that comfortably for an hour or two.
I've been carrying it by the tripod foot when testing it yesterday but that's also a bit small for my hands to be comfortable. Might look for a grip that attaches to the tripod food but the one I found so far costs $150 and fuck paying that.

I want to get into bird photography, just as an excuse to start going out more. Cameras are expensive but what's a good entry level camera for this kind of stuff? Do you guys take photos in automatic or manually adjust for each photo?
