the problem i have with cameras that are made to this standard is that anything electronic is bound to fail some day after they are no longer serviced. try fixing an electronic problem with an m9 or an x-pan, for example. a leica m3 is for life and so the cost makes sense, but the q?

You don't need to use the rear LCD when you have an always-on EVF. The EVF is also a good crutch for the exposure and focus deficient crowd that requires zooming in for critical focus and exposure simulation because they're too stupid to use a meter needle or AE so they'd much rather look at pixels that give your eyes fatigue instead of through the lens.
