this was my first roll from an Olympus 35 RC I recently purchased, it's also my first rangefinder. any advice on using zone focus when a lens doesn't include the zone ticks? it shouldn't be too hard to look up an equivalent focal length lens that contains the same apertures if anything..

Just wasted my first fucking roll of 220 film on my new Bronica S2A.
>first few shots, exposure counter didn’t go up reliably
>it eventually evened out
>figured some gears had to work decades-old kinks out, and I’d get some multiple exposures
>eventually the counter stops moving at 18
>18th exposure
>where are the other 6
>try winding and shooting about 20 shots just to finish up the roll, even though the counter’s not budging
>eventually open up the back of the camera
>literally half the roll is still in the original spool
What the fuck happened? Is the film back broken or is it the camera body itself?
I can replace the film back easy enough but I hope that’s all the issue is. It seems to wind fine if I wind the film advance with the film back off, so I’m guessing it’s a spring inside the film back.

Question about developing -
I got a b&w dev kit and it came with Fomafix Universal Rapid Fixer, in a 500ml bottle (dilution 1+5). The kit also came with a separate airtight container.
Do I mix it five times into the container, with 400ml of water and 100ml of fixer, and pour it back once I'm done fixing to reuse it about three times per mixture (bottle says there's enough for 17 developments), then make a new mixture?
>>
>>4067087
yes. 1+4 is a more common ratio though than 1+5 for film, paper is different.
keep leaders from film if you shoot 35mm to do fixer tests
>>
>>4067102
So you recommend doing 400ml mixtures of fixer for 4 rolls each? You can't really overfix film, right?
>>
>>4067103
if the bottle calls for 1+5 it's probably fine. remember that certain films (delta, acros and t-max) require longer fixing times.
you can't REALLY overfix film, unless you leave it in there for half a day.

also that fixer is gonna last way more than 4 rolls, so make sure to do exhaustion tests, google "film fixer exhaustion test" before you dump it and make a new batch. have fun devving friend
>>
How do you guys scan your film? I'm looking into home scanning methods, and DSLR scanning looks kinda cumbersome, but it looks like most dedicated scanners are either old and expensive, or total garbage?
>>
>>4067224
>most dedicated scanners are either old and expensive, or total garbage?
basically. not total garbage but they don't come close to dslr unless you have $10k+ to spend and are ok with a thing the size of a office photocopier that uses windows 98.

>>4067278
its really easy to miss focus with those early minoltas. i'm not sure about the srt 201 but with the 101 there's no split prism, just a fresnel. most of the times you gotta nail judging the distance. i still love it though and i've never thought of replacing it with another SLR system. shit is a tank. i accidentally dropped it and it dented the hardwood (and one corner of the camera) but works perfectly.

Dedicated scanners are by far the best option. Any models that have survived this long are likely to keep working. Coolscans and such are hella expensive, but there's one brand that is still cheap, the software still works, and the models from > 2002 have USB: Minolta. I first had a Scan Dual IV, and now have an Scan Elite . A friend got a Scan Dual III. They're slightly quirky machines, but the scan quality is excellent, my SE'll do 42mp (although the true optical resolution probably lies at 30mp though - still, it's fucking great, and it''ll outresolve any film on the market today.)

You can get a Scan Dual II, III or IV for < $100/€100, and it'll give you 4500x3000 scans, with and they're fully automatic - select all the frames, click scan, and then stand up and go make a coffee or something, when you come back they'll all be done. I don't know why people buy Plusteks, you have to babysit those machines to scan at any speed.
