Depends on the model, depends on what you're asking them to do. Going rates on MM seem to be $50-100 an hour to pose in normal clothes, and $100-200 an hour to pose lewd or nude. Men tend to be more expensive, at least in my area. There's just not nearly as many of them modeling so supply and demand.

If you have a good portfolio, you can get people to model for free in exchange for photos: time for print, or TFP from back in the days when we printed photographs.

Take a bunch of self portraits and show people.you know how to light and pose. Don't worry if you're ugly, a photographer that can make a compelling photo with a less than attractive subject is a good indicator of skill.

I tried to recreate the light style from this video: https://youtu.be/rL9H5fEDhSA

In place of the $500 led tubes I tried to cover the left and right thirds of a pair of octaboxes with cinefoil. The goal was to have only a narrow strip of each octabox exposed to mimic a tube. The fresnel was challenging since they don't fit flash heads very well. My main studio strobes have circular flash tubes and they cast a weird ring of light. I used them on an ad200 with the bare bulb and it worked better but it was still awkward. I came away with some okay photos, but I wanted bigger highlights in the subjects hair.

Like I said, self portraits are a good way to build a portfolio without having to find anyone to model for you. Cheapest model that will pose any way you want.

Instagram is probably the best place to find models these days, but I don't use it. I use Model Mayhem, even though it's less popular. And lastly, people you know. Performers like dancers, actors, and sometimes athletes like to model. I guess to build a portfolio and to show that they do well in front of a camera or audience. No idea why athletes are so into modeling, though. But a lot of them are in my experience.
