If you had to choose only one film to shoot for the rest of your life for each case, what would it be?

This is painful because when Velvia works, it really works. But if I could only shoot one...I think I might have to choose Provia for being more flexible.

Posted in sqt but maybe more luck here

This is a yashica rookie that has a film mask for 6x4.5 film images. Unfortunately, I don’t see them for sale. Are there any dimensions posted to make a 3D print for it?

I don't see anyone selling the film mask itself

what would attribute to noticeable grain size difference from photos from a Pentax K1000 and a Canon FTb with the same film, being developed and scanned from the same developer?

I'll do. There are no rodinal-like chemistry in the fotoimpex rn. And I also do like smooth grain pictures, XTOL-like chemistry preferred for this if I understand it correctly.

Perhaps it's poorly scanned idk I've only just started using the thing so i'm not sure i've figured it out yet. I'm using kentmere 400 film.
>>
>>4060309
I think this would have been better if you were like 20-30 degrees more to the left (clockwise) of the subjects. The statues should have been the focus with the people looking at it in the foreground. I think it would have looked even nicer with a (small) bit of depth-of-field blurring the people, but that can be tricky to pull off depending on the camera you’re using (e.g. with a rangefinder)

I'd drop the 14 eur film retriever. we have like a dozen at the college lab and never ever touch them. it's easier to use a strip of unprocessed film to get the leader out.

also, I'd add a wetting agent for the final wash, like kodak photo-flo or whatever the ilford equivalent is named.
>>
Picked up a roll of expired Kodak supergold 100 earlier. Never used expired film before, what should I expect?
>>
>>4060572
Super grainy look. But it's more what you should know before shooting. The older film is the less sensitive to light it is going to be. There is a formula that gives you a number of stops you should overexpose, if I'm not mistaken

Hello /p/oggers,

I drunkenly purchased a Smena 8m from the borderlands and It had two cartridges (weirdly seems to have been popular in the east but I can find few mentions of it in the burgersphere) with film in them.

I unloaded them and rolled the film onto a spare empty cassette I had. The base is dark grey to black and the emulsion is grey. It kind of looks like Fomapan but that's just a guess.

Do you have any ideas how I should develop this film considering that
1. I have no idea what film it is
2. I have no idea how old it is (obviously newer than 1989)
3. I have Benzotriazole 1% antifog
4. I have Rodinal and Atomal.

Open to opinions
>>
>>4060687

>>
>>4060763
If you have bought it in Ukraine it's probably Svema 64 iso (it was most popular film in these days).
>>
>>4060763
I've read in the past a recommendation to use a high-contrast developer in addition to an antifog additive. Do you have any paper developer? That, mixed to some concentration, plus the AF should work fast enough that any base fog that's developed won't have time to show itself properly. Contrast will be high and shadow detail limited.
I guess experiment with some new film. Expose it to low-level light and then shoot it normally. See what you can get out of it.
>>
>>4060814
That's what I would have guessed before seeing it. It appears to have a thicker acetate base, not the thin polyester base that Svema film has.
>>4060818
Don't have any paper developer. If I choose to stand develop (With rodinal) does the Benzotriazole just slow the development, or does it run the risk of neutralizing the developer altogether?
>>
are Wein cells the way to go for replacing old mercury cells? I'm seeing mixed feedback online - they have the same 1.35 voltage as the old cells compared to 1.5V for non-wein batteries
>>
>>4061148
>are Wein cells the way to go for replacing old mercury cells?
not really imo. you gotta stay on top of them too much because of how they drain. better off just learning to shoot manually with an external meter.
>>
>>4061163
do they drain quickly in general or just when being used? this camera only uses the light meter/battery in AE mode, full manual doesn't use the meter
>>
I just sent in all of my film to get developed. Does anybody else feel a weird sense of relief when all of your film cameras are empty?
>>
>>4061165
>do they drain quickly in general or just when being used?
in general, people say they get 6 months out of them but i never got more than 2 months (i have tried them 5 times, most recently fall 2021) you're better buying a good light meter app (some of the free ones are fine i think) or saving up for an actual dedicated meter.
>>
>>4059985
Overactive imagination, not knowing what the phrase "grain size" means, not giving the same exposure.
>>
>>4061182
I have this constant fear in the back of my head that my stored exposed film or film I still have in my camera is somehow going to be exposed to light and ruined unless I hand it into the lab straight away.

How to get inspired to shoot film outside US/EU? Vast majority of good and highly liked photos acrosss SM are general pics of american houses, cars, gas stations, famous locations and etc. Somewhat less popular pics are from Europe and again - old cars, famous or comfy places, situations that highlight the location.
Nature is the most obvious thing to shoot, however I personally don't like to take photos of overused subjects like beach/sea or endless boring trees, especially when this is all I can get in my city which is just an old commieblock region. Travelling may be a good solution to diverse subjects however I can't due to current situation in Eastern Europe. So I think I'll stick with portraits for now, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Maybe then I'll come up with something to finally try CineStill 800t that I think will expire untouched - absolutely no idea what to shoot with it since I don't have 99% of most used scenes for this film around me.

Gonna move to Tumblr.

Yeah I'm not even looking for much SN really. Maybe some feedback/critique which doesn't happen on IG anyway.

are there any good shops in paris to sell cameras? i've got a recently served rolleiflex that I'd like to get rid of at the end of my trip so if I could dump it somewhere and get an actual decent price for it. issue is that most shit is probably closed during august I guess.

I edit before I print. Not to adept with cloning and stamping yet in PS either. It's stuff like the lamppost on the right and the lady with the blue coat and Lidl bag that you necessarily can't crop away before starting to crop lady with red and white, and the one in green and white stripes. Idk, should just use burst firing for scenes like this

Sup /fgt/ just a quick question: what the fuck is going on with film prices?
Long story short I saw the series on film manufacturing of Smartereveryday and it made me want to give another shot to photography, which I tried like 5 years ago with my father's old camera. Back then I paid a roll of 135 something like 3~4€, but now the same roll of crappy kodak colorplus 200 goes for about double that. What the fuck? I thought that with film getting popular again it would benefit from economy of scale.

They're MIM-14 Nike Hercules, an American ground to air missile defense system from the Cold War that was deployed in key areas in Europe to defend from potential soviet bomber formations (they were meant to have a nuclear warhead, but in this particular base they didn't because in winter the snow made it impossible to evacuate the nuclear warheads in case of soviet advance). There's a place in northern Italy where an old decommissioned base in the middle of the Alps was recovered and one pad, out of like four or six, was turned into a small Cold War museum centered around this system.

If I had a hot flemish 29 year old wife I sure as hell wouldn't share her nudes online.
That said, it's hard to come by good cold war stuff because it's either tucked away in some more or less inaccessible military base, or has been outright scrapped, or because it's not old enough for europeans to care: if you like WWI for instance there's a museum at every corner because it's old enough and had a huge direct impact on the population, but the Cold War isn't and didn't. I do believe that Base Tuono, that's the name of the museum, is the only in Europe to display those missiles.

Anyway, take another from that set, this has been scanned with my printer so the quality is what it is.

Thanks, here's another one which I particularly like even though I couldn't frame it better (I wanted the missiles to blend in with the forest more, but there was no way to achieve that). I wish I could visit places like that every other week. Beside the fact that I literally have no idea on what I'm doing and can't tell good photos from bad photos, one of the reasons why I dropped photograpy is that I hardly go outside anymore after I broke up, and where I live is one of the dullest place with nothing interesting to capture.

for bw:
~100 for dev equipment (see >>4059632 )
used enlarger from ebay: 30-50, or ~300 for a new chink made
new filters: 20
trays: 15-30 depending on how big you want to print
safelight (e.g. an RGB LED strip): 15
consumables (paper, dev, fixer, stop bath): 35+
stuff to make your room actually dark: depends
so ~200-250€ in total

why is portra 400 sharper than say ultramax 400? i understand less grain and better colors but why does a boat 2km away look more sharp on portra of 400h than ultramax or superia?

It depends how much detail you want.
1 photo is fine if you don't want the extra resolution. 4 will be 4 times better ofc.

Couldn’t tell you but I know kodak designed it with scanning in mind. Portra 400 is noticeably shaper than portra 160 off the scanner.

I got a S2A and now I’m reading about the mechanical shutters slowing down, foam degrading causing focusing issues, and the vibrations from the shutter causing blurry pictures. Are these fears overblown? The seller guaranteed no defects in the camera so I didn’t feel concerned but now I’m a bit sceptical.

ty anon. dont be discouraged by the apparent unpracticalness of carrying a tripod. i did that pic with some $5 soligor, fully foldable to a stick of 30cm, about 350g, serviceable even for a medium sized dslr. give it a try.

pic is another iso 1, handheld, inside, i must have used like 1/2 speed, maybe a 2 second handheld bulb, which i do often. im just now noticing some moving laser thing down left, must def be bulb.

i think chip scarcity for digital more likely then the film chems/production rate issue with color negative. film cameras gonna quadruple though.
