Shutter curtain doesnt move anymore..it winds forward after each shot but shutter curtain stays the same.
Put a film inside, shot few rolls, changed lens from 90 to 45 and notices no shutter curtain :(

I think this would have been better if you were like 20-30 degrees more to the left (clockwise) of the subjects. The statues should have been the focus with the people looking at it in the foreground. I think it would have looked even nicer with a (small) bit of depth-of-field blurring the people, but that can be tricky to pull off depending on the camera you’re using (e.g. with a rangefinder)

I'd drop the 14 eur film retriever. we have like a dozen at the college lab and never ever touch them. it's easier to use a strip of unprocessed film to get the leader out.

also, I'd add a wetting agent for the final wash, like kodak photo-flo or whatever the ilford equivalent is named.

Hello /p/oggers,

I drunkenly purchased a Smena 8m from the borderlands and It had two cartridges (weirdly seems to have been popular in the east but I can find few mentions of it in the burgersphere) with film in them.

I unloaded them and rolled the film onto a spare empty cassette I had. The base is dark grey to black and the emulsion is grey. It kind of looks like Fomapan but that's just a guess.

Do you have any ideas how I should develop this film considering that
1. I have no idea what film it is
2. I have no idea how old it is (obviously newer than 1989)
3. I have Benzotriazole 1% antifog
4. I have Rodinal and Atomal.

I've read in the past a recommendation to use a high-contrast developer in addition to an antifog additive. Do you have any paper developer? That, mixed to some concentration, plus the AF should work fast enough that any base fog that's developed won't have time to show itself properly. Contrast will be high and shadow detail limited.
I guess experiment with some new film. Expose it to low-level light and then shoot it normally. See what you can get out of it.

How to get inspired to shoot film outside US/EU? Vast majority of good and highly liked photos acrosss SM are general pics of american houses, cars, gas stations, famous locations and etc. Somewhat less popular pics are from Europe and again - old cars, famous or comfy places, situations that highlight the location.
Nature is the most obvious thing to shoot, however I personally don't like to take photos of overused subjects like beach/sea or endless boring trees, especially when this is all I can get in my city which is just an old commieblock region. Travelling may be a good solution to diverse subjects however I can't due to current situation in Eastern Europe. So I think I'll stick with portraits for now, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Maybe then I'll come up with something to finally try CineStill 800t that I think will expire untouched - absolutely no idea what to shoot with it since I don't have 99% of most used scenes for this film around me.

That said, it's hard to come by good cold war stuff because it's either tucked away in some more or less inaccessible military base, or has been outright scrapped, or because it's not old enough for europeans to care: if you like WWI for instance there's a museum at every corner because it's old enough and had a huge direct impact on the population, but the Cold War isn't and didn't. I do believe that Base Tuono, that's the name of the museum, is the only in Europe to display those missiles.

Anyway, take another from that set, this has been scanned with my printer so the quality is what it is.

Thanks, here's another one which I particularly like even though I couldn't frame it better (I wanted the missiles to blend in with the forest more, but there was no way to achieve that). I wish I could visit places like that every other week. Beside the fact that I literally have no idea on what I'm doing and can't tell good photos from bad photos, one of the reasons why I dropped photograpy is that I hardly go outside anymore after I broke up, and where I live is one of the dullest place with nothing interesting to capture.

i took some shitty photos with a kodak duaflex i found for 8.99 in the thrift shop
they're much less overexposed and blurry in real life, i scanned them with a 15 year old flatbed using a piece of paper and an ipad as a backlight
as someone who has no photography skill or knowledge though i am pleased with how most of them turned out, next i will try some 35mm in my minolta camera

I got a S2A and now I’m reading about the mechanical shutters slowing down, foam degrading causing focusing issues, and the vibrations from the shutter causing blurry pictures.
