I had a Canon G11 when I got into digishit and CCDs. I found the features to be excellent but the image quality was in a weird no fly zone for me - too good to be digishit and too shitty to be good. If I remember right it was some kind of early 2000s Hewlett Packard point and shoot/webcam. It looked almost like a fisher price toy with white plastic and blue accents, no screens except maybe a small LCD for settings, and the thing needed a printer cable to plug into the computer. I've been searching on and off online for years now and cannot positively identify the thing.

Compact Flash. It came with a 16mb card. 16 freaking mbs! That's like a pdf file nowadays. And for that, it could hold 111 pictures or 75 second of video. If you are interested in buying one, you'll need to be careful of the cf card you get. I remember I bought another one several years later and it wouldn't work. I had an S5 iS years ago. I bought it because I was going to use it in a photo booth and at the time it was one of the few cameras that worked with the software. I'd like to say I've been having fun rediscovering the Kodak mc3 thanks to this thread, but I'm really just reminded of what a pain in the ass it was! No viewfinder, just the worst lcd screen in history. It's the size of a postage stamp and unlit. You can't see it in the dark, and even in the most perfect lighting you can sort of make out what's on the screen, but you end up holding it at such a fucked angle you can't use it to compose shots.

To put it in context why I actually bought this thing, it was 2001. And sure the photos sucked, but it could do video! in 2001, most video cameras big, expensive, and still took freaking tapes! This was a nifty little device you could just hold in one hand. And it was an mp3 player! Sure, it couldn't hold many songs, but neither could other mp3 players at the time. If I recall right, I think I got it for around $200. Now, I was looking at other cameras at the time, but this just seemed so cool, so I got it. At the time, I wasn't very happy with my purchase, but now, eh.. it's still pretty bad, haha!

Thanks! Although I can't emphasize enough just how much this thing needs light, but hates it too. Not only can you not see the screen in all but the perfect light, the light needs to be just right to take a picture. I don't mean in the way that a professional photographer will wait until the sun is 10 degrees above the horizon so the subject "pops" or whatever, but I mean even just trying to get a basic snapshot so you can come back later and see what you took a picture of. I just bought a bag of three of these from a thrift store for $10.
One doesn’t turn on at all,
One turns on and takes photos but the sensor is fucked so the images stretch and distort.
The last works perfect. All in all it’s pretty rad. It’s got buttons and switches for all of the options/shit that you’d have to navigate to in menus in cameras today.
All in all, I’d be wary of paying that much for it but if you can find it for cheap, it’s pretty fun.

Okay, I did a little looking. The QV-10 used a 2.5mm to RCA video cable. You can find those pretty easily. And most TV's still have RCA jacks, so that's a way to view the pics on a TV. They are also RCA to USB capture devices that will let you see your pictures on your computer. Then you could just take screenshots of them and crop out everything but the picture.

Now, if you want to deal with the actual files, that's where things get tricky.

If I were you, I'd google "Casio QV-70" and see what comes up. There is an old geocities website that talks about how make your own cable and even has the software available for download. Will that run on a modern computer? I have no idea. But I'm sure there are options for running virtual machines and whatnot.

You should also check ebay. There are several qv series cameras for sale. Now, they aren't the exact model, but they are close, and some of them come with the cable included.

What do you guys think about the Fuji instax Evo from a digishit perspective? I'm in the market for a mini printer, and this thing seems like it is a mini printer with a digi shit camera attached.

It lacks basic controls like ISO, SS and aperature, but maybe that is fine for a 5 mega pixle point and shoot.

Is it soulful, or just a hipster bait nostalgia cash grab?

What exactly would take the screenshot in this scenario were the camera is plugged in and feeding the video signal to the screen? He would need a capture card or anything similar to record the actual signal, some old video to digital converter would also work, or a DVD recorder or similar that can record video signal, or one of those DVB or what their name was, that you record TV to skip ads and such, if you can extract the files directly.
Would not be a great solution any of these though because of the losses.

It's been a long time but I think there's something in the menus on certain models that "fixes" the greens. It either forces some obscurely named rgb encoding, turns something off, or involves a custom mode forcing white balance. Or it's just a fault of that gen of digic chips. I usually get garish golf course greens on my powershot, but I could see too much yellow or magenta correction causing it.

The modes work. They're mostly white balance with a little bit of priority mode but they work. The AutoWB is pretty bad on the whole, especially the older they are. I have the high end powershit from around 2006 so it's a little more feature rich but still shits the bed when you don't force the right mode.
