Why do you take photos? Do you do it for a living?Do you display your photos somewhere or do they just collect dust on a hard drive?
I like finding and watching birds and I like the idea of getting a nice photo of them. I would like to try different photography, but I don't think I have an artistic eye for it. Actively searching for something to shoot kinda makes my head spin too much.
Going out and playing the game if finding scenes and trying to compose them nicely is fun. I don't really care what happens with the images afterwards.[EXIF data available. Click here to show/hide.]Camera-Specific Properties:Image-Specific Properties:Image OrientationTop, Left-Hand

I’ve always loved photography. There’s so many thrills I get from it. My job involves flying in helicopters, so sitting in the door with my feet hanging out with my camera around my neck is just an awesome feeling. I do everything from wildlife, street to party events. I’ve experienced joy, excitement, fulfillment, and many other feelings from just using my camera. What happens to the pictures after I take them is much less important to me than the experience of taking them.[EXIF data available. >>4020803Money.Switched from portrait hobbyist to real estate photographer and went from making $1,200 (from retail job + sometimes $0 from photography) a month to at least $9,000 a month. I'm not even working myself silly either. I have a package that includes photo, video, drone and matterport. Agents loves it as I only charge $600-$700 and do about about 15 a month. Each house typically takes me about 2.5 hours, 1 hour to edit the video and 0 time editing photos (outsourced). All in all, my actual work time is about 4-5 hours. So I work about 75hrs a month with usually about 15 days off and make at least $9,000. I really can't believe I used to be ok with working part time at a retail store for $15/h and working 25hr weeks only to make about $75 per day.I know some wedding photographers can make $5,000+ a weekend but fuck weddings. Real Estate is so much more relaxing and chill.
>>4020803>Why do you take photos?Because I enjoy it. I also like framing, cropping and adjusting. I also enjoy varying aspect ratios too. Sometimes going for a movie look. I wanted to make it a profession, because I am a hopeless aspie NEET who likes to stay local. As a poorfag, I never had the chance to get a camera until my early thirties. I have discovered a new appreciation for cinematography too.>Do you do it for a living?I wish. I was encouraged by someone else to start a website to sell photos, but it failed hard.>Do you display your photos somewhere or do they just collect dust on a hard drive?I have over 1,800 photos on IG. I crosspost them on Twitter as well. I have awful reach, despite the hashtags, so that failed too. Probably black-listed too. I had hoped to be discovered and get a big break, even as a part-time gig locally. Still, I do get some IRL praise from the very few people I interact with. My output is much less now, but that helps me be selective. I try not to do do-overs. I was so prolific in my first year that I feel I have to do photos I have not done before.

I had one minor good idea at 24 and I've been so goddamn poor it has taken me the last 5 1/2 years of experimentation and figuring out how to better implement it to get anywhere. It has become my sole point of focus; it's where all my spare money goes. I don't have much else to live for and as I get older, it's increasingly feeling like all I have left.
Idk why I do. I just absolutely love it. Sometimes I’ll get an image in my head and it’s as though I’m haunted by it until I bring it to life. I have an Instagram only so that I can show potential models my shit. They like having a reference and knowing I’m not just a random creeper. I wish more than females would be willing to pose. >>4022537The camera being level doesn't mean you have a straight horizon. The person viewing your photograph doesn't know the camera was level, they'll simply see the mountains sloping downward from left to right and assume you forgot to level your camera.I agree on the unbalanced composition comment as well. Negative space is fine to balance out your subject, but there's way too much at the top. Plus the part of the cliff in the top right of the frame is unnecessary and distracting. I deeply regret not having taken thousands of photographs when I was younger. Now all my good memories can only fade more and more with time. Now that I think of it, I don't have many good memories of lans but I'm glad I was there. It's hard to ruin a good memory without pictures.
>>4024853You're making a case for photos retroactively ruining good memories? Like they are best left alone, seen only through the rose colored glasses of your vague memories? I can see that happening in some cases but I also see the opposite: photos of trivial, mundane moments that you barely cared enough to photograph at the time, and now when you look at the photo you're almost moved to tears because it means more to you now than it did back then. Like you said, we don't know how we will feel about those memories in 10, 20, 30 years, but it seems to me like I would regret not having taken the pictures at all. >>4020803I take photos because I want to capture the beauty in my life. Also because I like don’t have any hobbies otherwise. I have a beautiful wife, beautiful children, and beautiful pets. Nothing last forever, and I want to be able to capture these fleeting moments in time. When I show my pictures to others, they ask why I don’t dont this professionally. Two reasons: (1) because then I would loose my only hobby in exchange for a “side hustle” and (2) I can only capture something I think is beautiful because photography is an expression of my love. If I had to photograph others, god forbid something vile like a woman with makeup or a non-kin man, I just wouldn’t be able to muster the effort. Photography is a deeply personal expression of my joy and appreciation for the people around me. This is also why I struggle with landscapes and street photography, because I literally don’t care unless my wife is in the shot.

Now I’m somewhat a pocket photographer for my gf who does modelling. I do quite enjoy it, however I feel that I should grow, though I still don’t know in which area.[EXIF data available. >>4025130>>4025231These look amazing, specially your color edit, great work.
>>4024977It's a fun age to socialize while you're half retarded and have a high bullshit tolerance. I couldn't do it now either but the scattered memories and photos are nice. I like that total lack of context photos like yours have, it makes them have life. I'd be more social but then I remember why I drifted apart from most of these people in the first place. Stewing in memories is a double edged sword.
>>4024981Also, really like that one, reminds me of somewhere I've been that triggered a lot of recurring dreams. Moods and motives like an abandoned road on the outskirts are captivating for some reason.
>>4025272The editing was done by a different person, but thank you very much anyway!
>>4025231How does one achieve this look? Looks very dreamlike.
>>4025345soft lensorange and magenta overtone
>>4025557Thank you! If my lens is too sharp, can I achieve this effect with a soft diffusion filter or are those just meme gimmicks? Also, when you say orange and magenta overtone, should I focus on the Color Mixer tab (HSL) or Color Grading tab in Lightroom?
I'm fat and taking photos motivates me to go out and hike.
>>4020803I wish I had more motivation.Unfortunately someone sprung the idea of "you only remember the pictures when you take them instead of the memory itself." So I don't take much based off that idea. I do like photography thought.
>>4020803I feel like deep down inside everyone at some point in their life has the need to express themselves in some creative or artistic medium myself included. Photography has never been more accessible or cheap as it is today which makes it a great medium to get into if you feel like you don't have the inclination to pick up drawing, or painting, or sculpting or one of the other arts.
>>4029527>if you feel like you don't have the inclination to pick up drawing, or painting, or sculpting or one of the other arts.I personally put it under crafts like basket weaving or something utilitarian for people who otherwise have no creative outlet. Unless you're making darkroom prints, that's a physical object.
>>4022519>>4022542I'm sorry but the original is so much better
>>4020803i love taking pictures, and that's about itnever cared much about my subjects except when taking pictures, that's when i get into flow with things around myself and really enjoy their presencei tried doing it for a living but money was not enough to support myself and photography as a hobby, probably related to the fact that i was poor for 3rd world country standardmy current job/career gets me enough money so i can take pics as a hobbyi had my pictures displayed in museums and local art galleries when i was doing it professionally; even though it did command nice prices, it was rather erratic as income source so i quit; nonetheless it was pleasing to be able to show and get feedback on my pics from curators and very dear photographers such as sebastião salgado
