Is this worth it for $1500? Seems like a hell of a good deal.
>>3963766YesIf you're looking for a camera for purely photography you can't really go better without spending triple that
Please use the gear thread next time.
>>3963842Please sigma balls next time.
>>3963766Shadow recovery is a bit shit by today's standards, but otherwise it's a fine camera for the money.
I am very happy with mine.
>>3963838This. For stills IQ it is phenomenal and remains competitive with today's high resolution bodies like the R5, A7r4, and Z9. Video features are shit though it actually has decent 1080p IQ if you feel like filming with it. High ISO is actually pretty good contrary to the whining of reviews in 2015. Reviewers just get stuck on pixel peeping and pixel peeping a 50mp file is insane magnification.tl;dr - I love mine, wish I had the spare $1,500 to replace my backup body with another one.>>3963922It has about a 12.4ev total DR (by DxO standards). Depending on intended print size, subject matter, and your expectations, you can push 3-4ev with some NR. Basically if you ETTR and nail your exposure you will be fine even with landscapes.
>>3963766No camera in the world is worth $1500
$1500 for a dead mount?
>>3964123>"muh dead mount!">Le Reddit FaceAll EF glass works perfectly on RF bodies.
>>3963766Which one is the one with no aa filter?
>>39641365DsR has a cancelled AA filter. But just like with the D800/800E, there's no practical difference between them. 5Ds is still sharp as a tack and will still actually show moire. It's just a little more resistant to it.In both cases they "cancelled" the AA with another piece of glass in the stack rather than remove it because of registration distance + manufacturing issues. Your AA filter has to be weak in the first place for this to work at all.
The image quality I can get from that thing with a 1.4x500 with cropping is pretty damn amazing.[EXIF data available. >>3964329>>3964331I feel like I've gotten over the "Where's Waldo" aspect of high resolution images. It was cool at first, but eventually, I realized that it's kind of a gimmick when most of the photos I print are not big enough for the extra details to come into play, and most of the photos I might use online are never enlarged enough for it to matter either. Also, if there is *any* motion blur or even a slight defocus on an important part of the image, I'm more likely to throw it out if it's high resolution, even if it's impossible to tell when downscaled. However, croppability makes a lot of sense for bird photography. I've seen some incredible shots with some of these high resolution sensors. When combined with a long lens, it seems like a really powerful tool.
>>3964338Not me. I fucking love high resolution RAWs. Part of the reason is that I do print big. But even for smaller displays, it just makes post processing easier. 5Ds is so sharp and detailed ooc, and the color is so good, that post processing is cake.
>>3964422What do you print that actually needs high resolution?
>>3964430I feel like everything benefits at least a little bit, but WA landscapes benefit the most. It's not a matter of lower rez (20-24mp) prints being shit or anything like that. You can make good 16x24 and 20x30 prints at that resolution. But 50mp has finer detail and is (potentially) more immersive for that reason.
>buying a dslr in 2021Ngmi
Get the 1Dx instead, fuck megapickles.
Does anyone know if there's a chart somewhere of EF lenses that resolve the best detail to take advantage of the higher res?
>>3964430It's a better solution for scanning film than a flatbed, you'll get sharper, richer scans than an Epson or Canoscan
>>3964331What kind of bird is that? They have really colorful feathers.
>>3964457Same as any other camera: just buy good glass. Even shit tier consumer zooms will yield higher IQ on the 5DsR than they do on other cameras. Good glass even more so.
>>3964462It's a starling
>>3964457dxo has a pretty ample list of lenses and the testing done on different bodies.
>>3966297Yeah, but >dxo
>>3963766Very much worth it, fellas.
Why get this instead of a $300 mkii on eBay?
>>3967392Better sensor (performance at high ISOs, lifting shadows, resolving power), more advanced focus system (more and better points, better algorithms), more advanced auto ISO controls (5DII is very rudimentary), more advanced shutter (for reducing shutter shock in macro or landscape photography, for example). I owned a 5DII for years and it was just fine, but it does have its limitations. I've been seeing the 5DS R sell for $3800 for years, so $1500 seems like a hell of a good deal.
>>3966297DxO's lens testing sucks. Just go to The Digital Picture and read his reviews.
Evolutionary dead end.No 4k. It really had no place in Canons scheme, nor any reason to exist.
>>3967506It's an evolutionary fork, not a dead-end. It happens to be perfect, so it doesn't need any further improvements, unlike your Snoy, which is going on its fifth iteration.
>>3967506>No 4k.It's a photo camera, not video.
>>3963766No good, do not buy
>>3968051Singular best argumentative reasoning in any thread on 4chan.
