How do I trick my brain into not caring about the looks of my camera body? I got the x-s10 and it's technically the best fuji camera I own. The new film simulations are beautiful. And I love shooting handheld video with the IBIS. And the grip is nice. But because the camera doesn't have the rangefinder look like x-pro and x-e cameras, I'm thinking about returning it. When picking up my x-pro1 it "feels"/looks so much better, which is stupid af because ergonomically the x-s10 feels nicer, and still I prefer holding the x-pro1. Help.

I got paid and will buy a new lens tomorrow. Still can't make my mind about Fuji XF35mm f/2, Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 or Viltrox 33mm f/1.4. All go for around the same price locally.
XF33mm f/1.4 is way above my budget I'm afraid. Already have 18-55mm f/2.8-4 on my X-T20.

why in the fuck do you need auto focus at 12 mm holy shit

Because AF sells lenses

XF 35 1.4, don't get the viltroxs. Just be patient and wait for a good deal used.
>>
>>3957903
Found an XF35mm f/1.4 for about $310, lacks its box and warranty though. Brand new XF35 f2 goes for about $380 here.
For reference, new 35mm 1.4 for $560 and 33mm 1.4 for $760. I guess the XF33mm is spectacular but it is just way too much money for me.
>>
>>3957884
because you can't sell a consumer camera with only manual focus in 2021
>>
>>3957953
33mm is true 50mm fov. I'd go with vitrox to be honest.
>>
Really not liking MF on the X-E2 with peaking. It’s like the peaking is too sensitive so I can’t be sure unless I magnify. My Sonys have had more reliable peaking. Might give the split focus a shot for a while
>>
>>3958049
I mean it's almost 9 years old and it was the mid-range model at the time. Maybe comparing it side by side with a modern sony isn't it bro
>>3957953
That sounds great to me, is it in good condition? Can you pay with PayPal?
>>3957977
I've seen you say this in a few places, why does a few mm matter so much to you? The only thing I can think of is if you've mainly shot 50mm for years and the slightly different fl is enough to trip you out every time you look at your photos, but even that would go away with time.
>>
>>3958051
>Maybe comparing it side by side with a modern sony isn't it bro
My old NEX-3 had better peaking
>>
>>3958051
>That sounds great to me, is it in good condition? Can you pay with PayPal?
I can buy through the websites own payment system that increases the cost by a 5%. Otherwise it's a craigslist like meet and pay system. The listing claims its like brand new, minus the packaging.
>>

Lenses don’t age like digital bodies do. You won’t die if you have to wait 0.15 seconds longer for AF.
>>
Is the new XF 33mm f/1.4 really any less magical than the old 35mm f/1.4?

They're both obviously good lenses. If there's any difference in magic between the two I'm pretty sure it comes from the photographer, not the lens. I'm thinking of getting the newer just for the weather sealing.

Pic related is one of the official sample images for the 33mm.

I know Viltrox lenses aren't as good as Fuji ones but those prices are really attractive not gonna lie.
Dissuade me from getting the 56/1.4 for $330 when Fuji's 50/2 costs 450, 56/1.2 $900 and 50/1 costs $1500. How bad could it be?
>>
>>3958502
ill dissuade you. get the ttartisans 50mm 1.2 for a third of the price of the viltrox. easy. or there are also tons of vintage 50mm lenses to adapt

honestly unsure between the xf18mm/f2 and the 27mm/f2.8 wr? I think if I got a 35 I would go for the f1.4, I don't know any good non fuji lenses with this mount but it would be nice to not have to use an adapter or use the default TC that fuji makes, I don't care too much for AF but there are Samyang lenses which support it. is the XF200mm OIS not amazing/magic? I'm a total beginner and want to buy fuji as my first camera (used), and with my limited budget (under 600 usd) I'm thinking to choose between x-t200 and x-t20. One question, why x-t200 price dropped so much despite it only being introduced in 2020? I even saw a used x-t20 body listed at higher price than used x-t200 body.
>>
>>3958620
Oh also, one more question. I see that x-t20 has no anti-alias (low-pass) filter. Does it really increase the sharpness (and I'm wondering if it's better)?
>>
>>3958620
>>3958623
The X-T200 doesn't have the Xtrans sensor, instead having a boring old bayer CMOS sensor. Fuji nerds don't want anything that isn't Xtrans.
The X-T2, X-T20 and X-E3 all have the same sensor (Xtrans 3) and photographic capabilities, I'd say buy whichever one is the cheapest, if image quality is the priority. If it isn't, pick the one with the features you want.

IMO the previous generation Xtrans2 cameras render an image that's more to my liking. Check them out too, X-T1, X-T10, X-E2 and X-E2s are all still great.
>>
>>3958507
cant you buy it off ebay? there should be sellers from china that ship international, but not sure if they ship everywhere. also i think the 0.95 isnt as good
>>
>>3958502
The value equation shifts when you realize viltrox's are both harder to sell AND don't keep their value as well as Fuji lenses. If you treat your gear well, you could buy a used 35 f2 and sell it 2 years later for what you paid. I would always go with the Fuji option, unless you're looking at something special like the 18-300 tamron or the Laowa macro lens that was being talked about in the last thread.
>>
>>3956191
Why Fuji?
What makes it special than other cameras?
Please do tell.
>>
>>3957884
because f1.4 from 3 ft away requires constant focus adjustment on moving subjects, for example

Can order one via amazon.com for $154 with customs & shipping included.
I just don't know what to do with all these options. I kinda agree with >>3958711 as the Fuji lenses seem to retain their value real good, especially the older ones.
Found a listing for 50mm/f2 for about $240, with its box and warranty. I like my 18-55 but borrowing my cousin's 35mm/f2 rather spoiled me for the sharpness and low light performance with its wider aperture is rather obvious.
>>
>>3958777
kamlan 50mm 1.1 both v1 and v2 has issues, i wouldnt get it. i would recommend ttartisans 50mm 1.2 and 7artisans 35mm 0.95. i have looked ay a fair bit of reviews for these too, and i have both. if you want wider, get pergear 25mm 1.8
a thing about bokeh, its not just about the f stop. there are tons of lenses, vintage ones too that give amazing bokeh at 2 or 2.8, it's about the lighting too

>a thing about bokeh, its not just about the f stop. there are tons of lenses, vintage ones too that give amazing bokeh at 2 or 2.8, it's about the lighting too
Thanks a lot for the info. What vintage lenses and what adapters do you recommend?
>>
>>3958546
Idk, never had viltrox 56, but fuji 50 f2 is near flawless performer. Not so long ago it was sharpest lens on a system. Already great at f2, and even better f2.8. 0 problems with CA, coma or distortion. You combine it with very small size, great build quality and weather sealing and it is lens that's hard to put down.
>>
>>3958794
You're really convincing me anon, especially now that I can get the lens for only $240 provided someone else doesn't grab it before I do. I can also get XF35 F1.4 for $310.
It will be my first prime on X-T20.
>>

too many to name here, lots of zeiss, meyer-optik, nikkor. depends on your budget too. some good cheap ish ones are super takumar 50mm/1.4 and 55mm/1.8, nikkor 50mm 1.8 pancake, canon fd ssc lenses, zeiss biotar 58mm/2, etc. almost never get a wide/super wide vintage lens, most are terrible. lots of 55mm and 58mm are magical. the rabbit hole goes deep

most old zeiss lenses are absolutely amazing, the flektogon would probably be the same. usually i google search the lens + "site:mflenses.com", that forum has tons of great advice and sample pics around vintage lenses. when i said wide/super wide lenses i meant < 20mm or <24mm, so 35mm is definitely fine
never buy a vintage lens that has haze, fungus or separation (a little fungus may be ok ONLY IF you know how to clean it and remove it properly). make sure the aperture and focus ring arent too stiff and there isnt oil leaking from the aperture and you are good to go

A few weeks ago I bought a second hand X-T2 for a really great price, I'm in love with it so far.
Thanks to the 27mm pancake I can carry it in my backpack at all times for daily street photography. The 50mm f2 is great for portraits. I also have an adapted EF mount Samyang 135mm f2 from my previous astrophotography kit.

I am thinking of selling the Samyang 135 and buying the Fuji 18-135 (450€) as a versatile lens for "general nature photography" (landscape is too big a word for what I do).
Buying the 50-230 and a wide angle prime would probably offer a better value but after some recent outings I have developed an appreciation for the idea of not having to swap lenses.

Buttons and dials are the reason I gravitated towards Fuji so I would, personally, get the X-T30 or the X-T2/3. Slightly better sensor and autofocus means little to me but I’m not everyone and your opinions could drastically differ from mine.

>>3960368
Glad you were pleasantly surprised, I think I was a bit confused because manual focus has been good enough for me but alls well that ends well. I’m a 35 f1.4 shill so naturally I’d go that way, but I understand it’s downsides and the f2 is the better option for some people. I’d try both if I could though, to make an informed decision but that’s not always easy so do your own research first.

What pulls you towards Fuji? If you’re not interested in manual controls and other things Fuji does well you might be better suited towards an XS10 or a compact Sony/Canon. You shouldn’t want to get a Fuji just because we circlejerk here, you should give us more information so we can help you make an informed decision. Fuji might end up being perfect for you, I’m just saying there’s a whole market of cameras that fits ‘everyday photo/video’ and could suit you better.

What do you think of it so far?
>>
Fuji X10 is all you need. Save your money. It's good enough for Daido Moriyama.
>>
>>3960563
It's soft at f1.0 and only starts getting sharp around f 2.8 but that's expected. It captures all the detail just fine wide open so upping the contrast during editing can counter it.

It's REALLY large and heavy. Def not a travel or street kinda lens.

It's still amazing for portraits and low light stuff.
>>
>>3960568
The bokeh looks pretty though. How is the AF? How does it compare to the 56/1.2?
>>
>>3960569
Yeah the bokeh is really smooth.

The AF is hit and miss. For the amount of glass being moved, it isn't bad. Eye detect works well enough. Hell, it picked up the toy robot's eyes flawlessly so I can't complain.

I know the focusing motor on the 50 f1.0 is newer than the one in the 56 f1.2, though it still isn't a linear motor. I'd still say the AF is good considering this lens is a monster. Maybe not good enough for anything fast like sports, street or wildlife but amazing for static subjects.

Not really. Depends on what you need it for.

For portraits it's amazing. The bokeh is really unparalleled.

I paid over 2000 canuck bucks for it but that's because I bought it brand new.

Honestly if you just need a versatile all rounder 50mm lens, get the F2. It's amazing for its value and will do adequately for everything. The F1.0 is niche af, which you can interpret as bad or not worth it. I'm liking mine so far. I'm sure buyer's remorse will hit me at some point but I'm gonna enjoy the lens until then.

What would you /fag/gots get for a portrait + general purpose tele combo?

>56mm f/1.2 + 70-300mm f/4-5.6

+ 2½ brighter at 56mm, but only at 56mm
- big gaps in focal lengths
- darker except at 56mm
- no weather sealing for the 56mm

>50-140mm f/2.8 + 2x teleconverter
+ covers more focal lengths
+ brighter across more focal lengths
+ has a tripod foot
+ always weather sealed
- 2½ stops darker at 56mm
- more expensive
- heavier, also at 56mm

If you’re using off camera lighting some wireless triggers block the shutter/ISO dial which sucks and makes me think it was designed for Le epic street photographers rather than more conventional working pro/semi pro types. I really like my xpro2 but it’s a meme camera in some ways. An XT2 with battery grip or XH1 might be a better idea if you definitely want to get a fuji with that sensor generation.

I ended up going with the 35mm f/1.4

Here's a quick shot, didn't have time to set up a nice background. The longitudinal chromatic aberration is more noticeable on the whiskers than I had hoped. But I think I can live with it if I remind myself not to pixel peep. Other than that I really like the look.

Shame about the lack of WR, but I didn't see myself using this particular lens much in bad weather anyway, so I think I can live with that too.

The 50-140mm is a limited-purpose lens for

>events
>portraits when you have limited control over the environment (i.e. non-studio)

I wouldn't use it for most other things but for the purposes listed above, I probably wouldn't get any other lens than this one. If you know you will need a telezoom but don't know yet what you're going to shoot, this is your lens.

not really, you could also get an X-T30 that is the same size or even smaller than the X100V that still has interchangable lenses. the X100 is made solely for the "limitation breeds creativity" people but it's too expensive and not compact enough to justify it in my opinion, especially if you already have an X-T3.

Too big of a hit on image quality, then?

I looked through my pictures from before I switched to Fuji, filtered on focal lengths greater than 196mm, and there weren't many that were all that important to me. Some birds and other wildlife, but I don't really have the patience to take wildlife photography seriously. There are some landscapes as well, but most of them would have benefited from both being wider, and from having the kind of image quality you get with the 50-140mm. The same can honestly also be said for stuff I've shot between 140mm and 196mm. I always wanted more reach, but did much better work at the short telephoto end.

Also some of my favorite photos are landscape and architecture between 50 and 55mm. I didn't have anything between the kit 18-55mm and a 70-300mm, but I think I think that would have come in handy.

Seems like a pretty strong case for the 50-140mm, and when bundled with the 1.4x TC (or skipping the TC) it brings the price down to less than the 56mm + 70-300mm combo.

Any Viltrox users here? 56mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 look compelling at their price points.

I'm no prime snob, but sometimes it's nice to not have the big honker on the front of the camera, particularly for travel and blending into crowds.

I have a 35mm f1.4 but need something wider to go with it. Would you go with the 23mm f2 or the 18mm f2? I have a lot of travel photography shot at both of those focal lengths with a zoom, so either would be used extensively.

The 18mm is nice for this use case because it's a pancake. But the 23mm is weather sealed, which comes in handy when visiting rainy places. On the other hand you can crop a picture taken with the 18mm to 23mm, but you can't reverse it from 23mm to 18mm.

Another pancake is the 27mm f2.8 which is weather sealed, but it feels awfully close to 35mm, so it doesn't bring that much else to the table.
>>
>>3963902
There is a big difference between 18mm and 23mm focal length, but both are easy to compose with. 18mm is the typical smartphone view but it's also a very old lens and from what I read it's slowish and noisy. The 23mm is newer, very fast and quiet.. plus WR. I wish they would bring a second gen of the 18mm F2 with WR and fast AF. Would be an instant buy for me.

Do you keep your 35mm? If not then I would go with the 23mm. If you keep it give the 18mm a try.. maybe buy used and sell again if you don't get warm with it.

If you want wider but with WR, fast and quiet.. then maybe the 16mm f2.8 would be an option too. But 16mm is another story.. way more difficult to compose

How many Fuji X lenses do you own?
I'm planning my next purchases trying to keep that number as small as possible. I want to shoot landscape and some portraits.

- a walkaround lens (either 18mm or 27mm)
- a portrait lens (50mm f2)
- a telephoto zoom (50-230)
- a wide angle lens for landscape - but which one? The 10-24 seems like the obvious choice but maybe a 12mm prime alone would be sufficient, leaving more money in my pocket to travel to nice locations.

I really wanna sell my Fuji for an R6 but no one will buy it.
>>
Question from a photography noob: why is Fuji the only brand that gets its own appreciation thread? Are they undervalued? Do they do something special?
>>
>>3964707
Because they have some quirky ways of doing things relative to other manufacturers, and so they attract trolls around here, so there’s more of an impulse to circle the wagons.
>>
>>3964707
The cameras themselves are FUN and interesting so the owners are enthusiastic. Anyone is welcome to make an appreciation thread for their manufacturer of choice.
>>
I’m shooting an x100v and somewhat new to this. If I want something completely sharp across the frame (no bokeh), I know I should stop down to f8 or f11, but what other settings will I need to change?
>>
>>3964773
I think you mean to have everything in focus (which means no bokeh) rather than completely sharp (sharp images refer to how 'clear' it is to see detail). Look up hyperfocal distances calculators. Essentially you want as much of what you are photographing to be as similar distance to the camera as possible, while being stupid something like f5. 6 or f8 (f11 introduces diffraction and will lower the sharpness a little, but you can use it). Like, if you are taking a photo of a wall, it's flat and will be the same distance to the camera so nothing will be out of focus. That's different if you were in a forest, where the ground can be 1m from your camera, and trees will be at lots of different distances so some parts will be out of focus
>>
Thinking about getting a X100V.
I'm looking for the vintage rangefinder experience, ideally 50mm equivalent, but 35mm is fine too.
I mostly do street, documentary style photo, so I want something pretty compact as well. Any thoughts on this, are there better options than the x100v?
>>
>>3964773

>>
>>3964764
I didn't even want this appreciation thread for this manufacturer. Showing appreciation would be better done with photo threads where the person used their preferred equipment and showed what they can do with it, instead of this

t. fellow Fuji shooter
>>
>>3964707
It's the same people that make every thread and talk in every thread.
>>
>>3964895
>Showing appreciation would be better done with photo threads where the person used their preferred equipment and showed what they can do with it
like flickr groups?

>>

Hi moop
>>
I currently own a silver xt4. Planning to buy a x100v.

Should I get a silver one or a black one?
>>
>>3965396
Whichever makes you most excited to go shooting.
>>
>>3965396
Hmm personally I would have gone black xt4 and silver x100v! However... Hmm! They both look great. Like the other anon said, pick what excites you to pick it up and go out to use it.
>>
>>3965399
>>3965467
Got the silver one lads. Cheers.

Black 100%. They both feel like plastic but the black at least doesn’t also look like plastic.
>>

>Should I get a silver one or a black one?
Black seems to generally have a higher resale value for whatever reason.
>>
>>3966763
Better plastics. I heard that somewhere. Apparently silver models are cheaper to make. This goes across all the brands.
>>
finally joined the /fag/ (Fuji Appreciating Gents), gonna save up for the 18/2 and 35/1.4 now

(or maybe the 27/2.8 R instead of the 18mm but I'm afraid it's too close to the 35mm)

I currently have a xt20 with the 18-55.
I'm never taking it because it's too big for the pocket in my coat. Should I get the 27mm pancake or something like the X70 second hand?
>>
>>3966849
That depends, do you want to shoot GOAT 40mm or ho-hum 28mm equivalent?
>>
>>3966849
What I did was pickup the x-e2s cheaply second hand and. Xf27mmf2.8 (pancake) for a pocketable setup. That way you can use it with any of your x mount lenses if you ever want to take a second body for a shoot. The x70 looks awesome too.

However, in this situation you should just take your xt20 with the kit lens. Get a sling bag or something and take it.
>>
>>3966849
Seconding the advice to get the 27mm. Any of the fuji compact primes should be a good fit though. I have the 23mm because I like the 35mm equivalent.
>>
>>3966877
Not sure yet, I need to look at more pictures. X70 would be better for casual pictures between friends, restaurants etc. thanks to the wider angle.
27mm would be better for general purpose and street though...

>>3966911
>>3966925
X70 looks comfy because you can really just put it in a pocket.
I usually take the xt20 + 18-55 in a little bag when I go on holidays or events, but these days Im just studying a lot at the library and my backpack is already heavy so Ive been thinking more of the pancake that I can just put in my jacket.
Anyway is 200 euros fine for a second hand 1st gen xf27 f2.8? That's the price around my area

how are you liking having both? I have an x-t4 that I use for video work and occasionally photos but I feel like I would enjoy going out and taking photos more with an x100v.
>>
I just ordered an X-E4 [body only] and 35mm f/2

Is the kit lens the best relatively cheap video lens?

What is another prime that /p/ would recommend?
I would like to stick to small primes to keep the overall kit light and small. I have a full frame Canon setup for big dikk bokeh stuff.
>>
>>3967126
I am loving the feel and handling of the x100v. Makes you want to take it everywhere and take pictures without thinking too much.

I feel like I have to try harder when I use the xt4. It's more suited to professional shooting, whereas the x100v feels much more casual, which is really good for street and candid stuff.
>>
I know it's shit but is anyone still using the S5 Pro ? I'm wondering if it'd be a fun body to shoot with F mount lenses, if I can't find a film body. It's <120€ as well.
>>
>>3967101
I find 35mm focal length on a crop a little bit tight for many close up situations, but I like tight. 27mm (41mm FF equivalent) is a good length for me.

I want to buy an X100 but can't decide if it's worth spending £1000 on the V or just getting a F or T. There's a X100T on Facebook marketplace for £300 which seeems like a good deal. What will I be missing out on? I don't care about weather sealing but will pay the extra £700 if it's worth my while. Pls advise. Please see attached pup for payment.

Is it possible to draw your finger on the LCD screen with a Fuji camera while looking in the EVF in order to choose the place you want to focus?
Or is it only possible by using the joystick?

I can't seem to do this having just bought an X-E4 and I'm wonder if it is even possible to drag your finger like that(?)

I don't know really, just all the most common ones so I can use recipes I find on the internet. Also fear of missing out.
