This is retarded but desu I'd rather a Fuji GF670 if I had to use a rangefinder (not my preference). The 7's lenses are just so slow and not nearly as sharp; nor is it as slim as the 670. And obviously if I fine with a MF SLR I'd go a 500C or RZ67. The image quality is just so much better.

I'm not a gearfag and I'm actually just using my mom's old Sony Alpha 100 with the kit lens. I have no idea where to go if I even wanted a better camera or lens (I know I prefer wide-and lenses and very rarely use the zoom past 28mm). I learned (or started to learn I should say) how to take photos on my highschool's pentax k1000 with a fixed lens for b/w, and they also had canon cameras for digital photography but I don't remember any of the specs for those.

Yes. Didn't really pick them for it though.
>>3899005
I've posted about it before and as much as I love how tiny it is I have a really hard time making 28mm work for me.
I bought it for traveling though so we will see how it performs when I'm actually abroad instead of walking around my hometown
>>
>>3899018
28mm and no viewfinder makes me feel like I'm using my phone so much that I would end up just using my phone.
>>
>>3899024
I'm somewhat okay with that. The IQ is significantly many times higher than my phone which is one of the better phones for photography.
However you won't be making a lot of art with it. It feels like snapshitting
>>
>>3898791
I'm already doing that but thanks for the tip anyway. I will only bring my XF10 on my trips, or at least that's what I think I will do. Losing the X-T100 won't be a big problem seeing they're dirt cheap but having my lenses stolen would really screw me over and I plan on visiting Colombia.
>>
>>3899018
>>3899024
bros, if you shoot jpeg only, you can use the 35, 50 crop modes. bought one mainly for the snapmode function and small size.
>>
>>3899039
my friend got robbed there while walking, bag with laptop taken away.
>>
>>3899052
Why can't foreigners never learn about environments? if it looks like an african refugee neighborhood it doesn't mean "it's their culture" because it's in another country, it means it's a danger zone filled with bad people.
>>
>>3899073
You can get mugged pretty much everywhere in South America.
>>
>>3899073
People report bags disappearing the moment they look the other way and muggings happening right within the historical centres of cities like Cartagena.
>>
>>3899051
What's the point of using those modes? Serious question seeing I can crop myself in post later on. It doesn't magically add pixels or something right?
>>
>>3899005
he puts it with his other cameras and remembers what it looks like. it really isn't hard.
>>
>>3899018
>we will see how it performs when I'm actually abroad
why would it perform differently in another country? it will perform identically regardless of wherever you are. barring extremes like underwater or in the arctic.
>>
Not pictured rb67, sx70, and a 100mm usm macro, as well as other film slr primes and my two godox strobes. but over all happy with this system for now. I Love how modular the sony is when it comes to lenses and Im hoping I’ll have enough saved up to get GFX100 and get the mamiya 7 adapter

crop modes if IQ isn't a priority and can't be bothered by doing post. I guesstimate at 35mm is 19mp, 50mm is 13mp. the camera auto resizes the cropped jpegs to 24mp so IQ falls more in 50mm. cropping in post is still better especially in raw if you prioritize IQ.
>>
>>3899155
Because like I said before right now I lug it around my hometown and it obviously performs subpar compared to an interchangeable lens camera with a lens that cost twice the XF10.
However it has certain qualities (it's the size of a phone with an APS-C sensor) which might make it a 10/10 camera while on travels due to it's size to IQ ratio.
>>
>>3899625
The image quality isn't magically going to get better when you're traveling though. It makes literally no sense. It performs as well as it will right now.
>>
>>3899705
You're a fucking pendantic faggot
An inflatable mattress lies the same everywhere but I rather have it with me abroad than at home.
>>
>>3899708
Yeah it would be exactly as comfortable everywhere. So the analog would be you saying "I got this air mattress, I slept on it at home and it isn't very comfortable but we'll see how comfortable it is when I'm traveling." Like it doesn't fucking matter where you are, it will be equally as comfortalble. There's literally nothing that you have to wait to figure out.
>>
>>3899715
When you are abroad and your options are to lie on the floor, some tiny self-inflating matress or a fully inflatable one suddenly the latter is the most comfortable option.
I take it you bring your cargo shorts and Nikon everywhere you go but I like having something I can bring everywhere without being afraid of damaging/getting robbed/losing it/whatever which still gives me many times more quality than my phone.

You seem to think I'm criticizing your decision to buy gear for travel. I don't care what you buy. If you want a compact camera for travel, that's a perfectly valid decision.
What I'm pointing out is, again, the actual quality of the camera doesn't change when you travel, which is what you're saying over and over again. Just like the comfort of the mattress doesn't change when you travel.
I'm not saying "don't buy the camera" or "don't bring the mattress." I'm saying "you are fully equipped to judge their utility in your current situation."

But if you're somewhere new, your photography often changes from trying to create art to recording memories.
Also, 28mm in an unfamiliar, picturesque is much more useful and effective compared with your hometown.
Not him, btw. I just also only use 28mm equivalent when travelling.

Thanks. I have a weakness for dinky, obtuse things and I don't know why. Cars, cameras, anything that looks odd I want. Oh, I also have a pocket instamatic 10 (pic related) but unfortunately it's a shelf piece; the sensor switch is snapped off.
The 110 format is surprisingly fun when you work with the graininess of the film. But with all the cameras in that format being 30 years old minimum with no new manufacturers aside from Lomography, you'd be hard pressed to consistently find cameras that work.

Honestly I think most of the older cameras are sold as collection pieces given how relatively scare the film is. Add to that repair costs and actually being able to find a shop that can service the camera, and eesh.
That being said I plan to use my cameras till the wheels fall off, and hopefully I can keep them in good enough condition on my own till then.

Nice. I briefly had a 28-70 2.8 which was quite nice but absurdly bulky and since I'm mostly doing street shooting I couldn't justify keeping it. I am constantly thinking about swapping my 28 f/2.8 for a 35 f/2 but I'm not sure if its really worthwhile. I feel that the 28mm perspective has become a part of my shooting style and I worry that 35 is just too similar to 50mm.

I have also been shopping around for an 85 f1.8 but at this point I'm wondering if the 105 f2.8 is a better one to go for for portraiture.

Yea actually thinking about that. I got it used for a really good price but I already had the X100V at the time. Started thinking I needed to explore more focal lengths. I’ve used the Nikon maybe twice.
>>
>>3900150
I feel like your x100 has enough convenience/usability features that the d3xxx series isn't going to be enough camera for you to have fun with. If you want to explore focal lengths I would suggest you pick up an older full frame body like a d610, I bet it would be significantly more fun for you, and the older af-s lenses are quite affordable
>>
>>3900122
I think that 35mm is a pretty boring focal length desu. I rarely find myself using the wider range of my zoom. I honestly rarely use my 28mm, I find it too wide most of the time. 50mm is probably my fav focal length. I think that 105mm is a little long for portraits, but its a necessity for scanning film. Super killer lens, sharp even wide open.

>>3900867
oh also, if you pair an electronically broken rz body with some rb lenses (like the k/l line) then you can have a pretty cheap and nice kit, you just lose the ability to have ae, z lenses, and body interlock, although I guess it's more like an rb acting like an rz. that's what I did and I'm pretty happy, got it all for less than half the price of a banged up rz kit, and it's nice to have the modern body, single wind, and physical blinders of the rz.
but yeah, my friend back in school bought an rz kit, near mint, for like, 250 canadian in 2016, camera shops struggled to get rid of them things back then...

I really like mine but it has some stuff to be aware of before buying.

6x7 vs. 6x9 is largely a matter of personal taste but aside from the frame size they are essentially identical.

Lens is generally sharp, mine has a bit of haze in it so contrast suffers if shooting towards a light source.

The rangefinder patch is a little small so it can be difficult to line up complex scenes without an obvious feature to align it.

You have to pull the front of the lens forward to get at shutter speed and aparture adjustments so square filters are too much hassle to use.

There's a shutter release on the body which you can trip by accident if you're not careful (you'll learn pretty fast).

It's fucking huge if you're used to 35mm SLRs and mostly made out of plastic so feels quite light and is surprisingly easy to carry about for an extended period of time.
>>

Why do people buy these shit animals as pets and why the fuck do their owners all think the rest of the world wants to see them
>>
>>3900868
I've never shot either of those lenses, but Rockwell says that 80-200 is better lens in everyway except for size and price. So idk why you'd want to downgrade. I have the 105mm f/2.8 macro lens and its super sharp, its a little long for portraits, but too short for birding or sports, but a killer macro lens.

>How do you like your M9? I'm considering getting one.
I personally love it, but they are Not For Everyone.

Some thoughts about it off the top of my head:
1. Battery life is surprisingly shitty, closer to a mirrorless camera (which, technically, it is) than a DSLR even though it doesn't run the sensor all the time like mirrorless cameras.
2. It's pretty clunky ergonomically
3. Takes a beat to turn on after it wakes up from sleep, again more like a mirrorless than a DSLR for some reason
4. ISO maxes out at 2500, and ISO 2500 is pretty ugly. Not unusable, but not nearly as clear as 2500 on a modern full frame CMOS camera.
5. Sensor corrosion is a thing, but not really a big deal in my experience so far (my sensor has a few spots, but they're mostly small enough in photos that they're not noticeable)
6. Close focusing just isn't a thing on a rangefinder, so don't expect to use this to take pictures of small things close up.
7. The LCD is surprisingly shitty, even for a camera of the M9's vintage
8. Don't believe the hype that an M9 CCD sensor produces noticeably better--or, really, even noticeably different--images than modern CMOS sensors. If you don't include exif, no one will know you're shooting with an M9.
9. Rangefinder focusing takes a lot of getting used to.

In use, it very much has the feel of shooting with an old-school film camera, but with the advantage that you don't have to deal with film. So if you like that shooting experience--which I do--it's great. If not, it's a shitty, expensive, heavy camera that's less useful and technologically advanced than a Digital Rebel.

It's not the CCD, it's the strong color filter array optimized for color accuracy instead of dynamic range. There's CCD cameras with colors that aren't great and CMOS cameras with "CCD colors" like the 5D classic or the D2X. Sensors are monochrome. You either optimize the CFA for color accuracy or SNR.
That said, when comparing A to B samples the M9 colors do look a bit richer than the Typ 240's.
>>
>>3904202
>you don't find them to have a unique color rendition
Not really, no. I suspect that this is more a matter of psychology--I.e., you find them to have a unique color rendition because you're expecting them to.

That being said, it's certainly possible that it's just that my eyes aren't great. If there is a difference, though, it's certainly not an unmistakably obvious and dramatic one.
